NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2023 Honda CR-V. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
A new 2023 CRV Honda than in less than two months it’s sunroof shattered while I was driving in the freeway. It was a very scary and dangerous situation because it sounded like an explosion and several pieces of glass hit my face, my passenger and my little dog. No object hit the sunroof. I took my new vehicle to the Honda dealer to replace the glass. Honda denied my claim. It’s infuriating that Honda states that sunroofs are not part of the warranty because this glass comes from another manufacturer. I ended up paying for a defective glass and I feel that it might happen again and Honda is not doing anything to take care of this defective sunroof glass!! Very frustrated!
The steering wheel seems to get stuck. When you are driving high speeds. Driving down highway. It gets stuck in a groove. You are constantly correcting . You're constantly fighting with the steering wheel
The Honda 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport experiences significant hood flexing / movement at high speeds, giving the indicator that the hood may suddenly open while driving (should the latch break). This happens ALWAYS at speeds of 60mph+ or during high wind circumstances and the movement gets far worse the higher in speed or the higher the wind conditions. The hood is confirmed closed each time before it starts and this happens with consistency. I have made an appointment to speak with the dealer about this on this upcoming Friday, but I have read online of many other individuals experiencing this issue and wanted to report it to ensure others are not impacted dangerously by this issue. No warning messages, symptoms, or lights appear. The issue has been confirmed.
While travelling on a straight highway (60 - 70mph). The steering sticks and a greater effort is required to do slight steering corrections. This causes overcorrection and potential lane departure. I have reported this at both my 2 previous services and was told they could not duplicate the issue. At the last appointment we took in information regarding the problem from various sources and were told if they could not duplicate it they could not fix it, leaving us hoping for an eventual recall. In the meantime we question how serious the issue is and how safe the vehicle is to drive.
I purchased this car in February 2023. The issue presented itself within 2-3 months of owning the vehicle. When backing up in the morning, the lane assist malfunction indicator comes on. If the car sits for long periods and then backs up- the indicator will come on. I have taken the car to the dealership multiple times and they do not have a fix. I called American Honda and they say the dealership is responsible for fixing and there is nothing they can do. I have recently noticed that the cross traffic sensor does not always catch and alert as well. The mechanic did say this is a common issue with crv based on their message board chat (which he showed me in August 2023) and waiting on Honda to find a fix.
After 6 months and 12000 miles of ownership I’m starting to notice dents forming along the Left side and right side of the roof rail from the front to the back of the vehicle. This issue verified be a dealership as a manufacturing issue. I was quoted a price for repairs which would be added to my car fax. There might be an issue with frame or metal used for this vehicle
The steering on the car is not right. It goes from being stiff at times to feeling like it is moving/slipping/drifting on its own. It requires more effort to keep it in a lane on a flat, straight roadway than it should. My husband called it twitchy, I would just call it jerky, sticky, stiff but it scares me because it seems to have a mind of its own. Only has 9700 miles on it. We looked it up and found that you have an investigation on this. It needs to become a recall. I have an appointment at Roush Honda in Westerville OH on Feb. 3 to have it looked at but we are hearing that they are very backed up on parts. My husband has been awaiting a new windshield for his Honda for a month. The steering seemed less than smooth from the very beginning but seems to be getting worse. No warning lights going on. Others on a Honda CRV Facebook group discussion talking about this problem say they have never gotten any kind of warning light either. We have of course turned off the Lane Keep Assist setting so that is not it. Just wanted to report the problem since you are investigating. Worried they won't have parts to fix it when I go in and I'll be waiting months, putting my safety at risk. They shouldn't be selling cars with a problem like this they can't get parts for. I don't feel safe in this car right now and if there is a delay on parts they should be made to give us loaner cars. Thank you.
I bought a brand new 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport and am having issues with the steering. When at speeds greater than 20 mph , the steering becomes stiff and hard to maneuver. It makes it impossible to swerve out of the way of a dangerous life threatening situation in front of a driver Significant force and two hand driving is needed to steer left and right at higher speeds The vehicle is brand new, only 44 miles on it so far
Case # 11582774 Purchased 5/8/23 Honda CR-V Are you waiting for the death toll to rise before making Honda Recall 500,000 CR-V And Civics. I see Class Action law suits have been filed against Honda. Over a year with an unsafe car Honda refuses to abide by the yellow law.
Brand new Honda CR-V 20223. 2 safety issues were observed: vibrating hood and vibrating driver side rear mirror. Both were confirmed by Honda representative on 5/18/2023. I have recorded footage of hood vibration. [1] For hood, when driving at highway speed (60+mph), hood visibly vibrated and vibration increased at higher speed. Dealership adjusted spacers and also found out the adhesives between the hood plate and the hood frame were not sufficient. It could have popped open during highway most likely lead to immediate fatal crash. [2] For mirror, when driving at highway speed (60+mph), driver-side rear mirror visibly vibrates and vibration increases at higher speed. Passenger-side rear mirror is perfectly fine. Dealership and Honda replaced the complete rear mirror once. The issue remains the same. Vibration over time will pop the mirror off, losing visibility impairing safety driving. Honda as of the time of this complaint 7/21/2023 stated verbally and repeatedly to me (and they recorded the phone call) that they will NOT replace or DO ANYTHING about this vibrating mirror, and that I as the consumer who paid for a brand new car will just have to accept and live with it. Honda basically on the record states that they refuse to do anything about this vibrating mirror. Both issues have been reported by others to my knowledge. Yet Honda refuses to take accountability to do the right thing.
The hood appears to flex when you reach speeds greater than 40mph. Took it to honda and it appears that the weld joints already broke loose. So were the outside hood is welded to the internal frame of the hood, it has come loose at all 15+ joints and is now rusted. Honda is working with me to determine next steps but I have read online that this appears to be a larger issue. Many users are experiencing this problem
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle drifted to the left or the right. The contact stated that following the drift, the vehicle would lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis. The contact was informed that a front wheel alignment was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer who diagnosed a failure in the steering column. The contact was informed that there was no open recall on the steering related to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
After I bought this new Honda CRV 2023 car, the steering started to feel sticky after a few thousand miles. This rigid or sticky steering begins after 10-15 min of driving. Issue: Steering starts to feel very rigid while driving, irrespective of highway or local streets, and it feels very rigid to turn. This is a safety concern as the car does not go how we want during driving, which can lead to severe accidents. I've reported these issues the last three times when I took the car to service at verified Honda service centers, and none of them accepted or looked at the issue. I still feel this issue every time I take the car out. There should be a recall from Honda to fix this issue as soon as possible to avoid serious accidents. Please help us (drivers, passengers, and pedestrians) be safe on the roads by attending to this issue as soon as possible. Thank you!
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, several warning lights would flash on the instrument panel as the speedometer would fail to operate. The contact stated that the speedometer would read 0 MPH while the vehicle was in motion. The contact notified the dealer after the failure and had the vehicle towed to their location. The contact was informed that the soft set connection wires were loose and needed repair. The vehicle was repaired and the vehicle was returned to the contact; however, the failure returned a few days later upon start of the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to Burns Honda(325 NJ-73, Marlton, NJ 08053) where a diagnostic determined a defect with the dash harness. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 1,188.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the driver's side mirror started to vibrate, making the rear-view image blurry. The contact stated that the passenger’s side mirror was not shaking and provided a steady image while driving. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to have the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V174000 (Visibility). The failure mileage was approximately 20.
I am really going through a very rough patch after buying the Honda CRV in May end 2023 EX-L model , 23/HONDA/CR-V/ AWD EX-L : Warnings Concerns / VIN: [XXX] . Following up from the 3 -month , I purchased the vehicle , but no respite from Honda Dealer & Honda Company, even filed the case with American Honda : Case # [XXX] but they are not providing any solution and referring to Honda dealer and Honda dealer referring to Honda company and I m missed as no body is taking the responsibility. I am seeing an unwanted warning, when I unpark my car, and there is no resolution at the Honda dealer and Honda company itself. warnings which abruptly came when my new Honda CRV got unparked . Details as below "LKAS: lane keeping assist system problem. See your dealer.". "road departure mitigation system problem. See your dealer.", Please help me to reolve this issue, If we paid out what is the intended price, but we are not getting the benefits/comfort what is expected and causing us the multiple trips to Honda showroom and mental agony giving me sleepless nights, if I spend too much for a new vehicle, still getting these kind of discomfort and uneasiness. It seems that customers should be compensated for all these unnecessary troubles and unwanted warnings giving an illusion which makes the driver unformatable which can lead to accidents. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This issue happened immediately after buying the car. When I turn the steering wheel it makes a clicking sound. I brought it into Honda and they replaced a belt but the issue starting again within the hour. When I brought it back in I was told that they were able to find one video in the Honda service center with this issue. It turns out this happened with 2020-2024 Honda Civics which were recalled. I've contacted Honda 15 times with no reply. I have a complaint number, Fedexed and emailed leaders, emailed where I bought the car, etc.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was moving erratically. The steering wheel was pulling while was driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering rack was defective. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
At speeds of approx 40mph and up I am experiencing "sticking/resistance" in the steering. This is requiring me to make extra effort to correct and in some cases causes me to "oversteer" to correct the issue. It's almost like LKAS has taken over but LKAS is off. Also, since purchasing the vehicle new an LKAS warning light randomly appears when backing up the vehicle that tells me to "see dealer". Vehicle currently has 20,000 miles but this issue has been happening since approx 7,000 miles. I did take the vehicle into my local dealership to diagnose and they could not replicate the problem. I now see there are many complaints about the same issue with other 2023 CRV owners.
When driving the vehicle the steering seems to slip. It happens at various times that can't be pin pointed. The only way I know how to describe the issue is that it feels like the steering wheel slips. It feels like you lose control of the steering. The car can be stopped at a light or driving at any speed when this happens. This has happened since I bought the vehicle brand new.
I was pulling up to the Subway sandwich shop to pick up my lunch. I was approaching from their back ally (coming from Walgreens next door) so I could not have been going faster than a few miles per hour. As I approached the parking space the car started speeding up so I turned right to keep from going through the building and drove in circles to keep from hitting the buildings. I could not go onto the street because traffic was heavy. I kept pumping the brakes and the car did not stop until I hit a parked car and pushed that car into another car. All airbags deployed. My 16 year old grandson and I were injured, but no individuals were in the parked cars.
While driving (no other vehicles present) it will display warning on dash. It will slam on brakes and swerve outside of lane. This causes the vehicle go off road or in another lane. The warnings will then disappear. It also advises to see dealership. It has been to the dealerships within first two weeks of purchase. They have not been able fix issues.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the horn failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the dealer made aware of the failure, and the contact was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 13.
The power steering feels "sticky" or "lumpy". While driving straight with the lane keep assist systems turned off, making normal small corrections to maintain direction, the steering wheel yields small barriers to the steering wheel movement. The barriers (or lumps or stickiness) can be overcome by input pressure but it does not feel normal compared to any previous vehicle I have driven. This happens an all speeds, all weather conditions, on all different roadways. However sometimes it is more pronounced than others. Have not noticed a pattern to this. It is a complaint because, well, steering is important! The dealership evaluated this complaint and the result was "cannot duplicate complaint". 2023 Honda CRV Sport Touring. Odometer = 14000 miles. Complaint started around maybe 5000 mile or sooner.
Drivers side door mirror vibrates while driving. Causes issues when looking at it when checking for traffic etc. This has been reported and verified by dealer. This is a known issue by Honda and has been reported by other Honda owners. Dealer told me that Hona is aware but mirrors are back ordered and no time table for repair. This is a safety item.
Seat back collapsed backwards on to the back seat after rear impact accident. Driver slid out under the fastened seatbelt and landed in center of backseat with both feet tangled in the seatbelt.
I was pulling into a parking place and the had a sudden unintended acceleration. I was not applying pressure to the gas pedal and was easing into the parking spot. When I applied pressure to the brakes, they were extremely hard to push like they were locked up. The car jumped the concrete barrier, took out a pole fence and jumped a sidewalk the fence stopped it short of hitting thee building.
Within two hours of picking new CRV up, Auto Stop Idle Problem - see your Dealer" message popped up. Two weeks later, 12 error messages popped up on dash. Took vehicle in 5 times for repairs after error messages popped up after each repair. Front grill, battery sensor, battery and entire harness were replaced. I don't feel confident I can trust the safety of this vehicle. In addition, this vehicle does not have blind spot warning.
The driver’s side mirror vibrates a lot( it’s so hard to see anything, especially on the freeway “it gets blurry”). The dealership changed the mirror glass for me and the issue still there. I went back again and complained, and they ordered the whole mirror assembly for me (i waited 6 months)—the replaced it for me, and STILL the mirror vibrates. I would love to hear back from you guys because it’s so unpredictable! Thanks
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while parked, the contact noticed an oil leak. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the oil pan needed to be replaced. The oil pan was replaced. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they replaced the oil pan again along with the crank case. The failure recurred and the remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 3,950.

On highway this Honda CR-V was hit by another vehicle 2013 doge at right rear side. Other car was sliding on the road , crossing the lanes and hitting the CR-V. Side airbags were deployed immediately during primary collision. CR-V didn’t stop after that. It turned left from right most lane and hit the median heavily. Lane keeping assistance, frontal collision system, automatic emergency braking did not work properly. It hit the median and all front airbags were deployed. Honda should improve the safety features when it was hit by other car in rear, Honda CR-V should not twist and turn left & make secondary collision.
Driver's side mirror glass vibrates at highway speeds since purchase of the vehicle. Impedes visibility and could cause dizziness. Multiple complaints relating to this issue already submitted on NHTSA.
Steering is all over. Vehicle pulls very hard with a slight pitch in the road.
System does not alert until a vehicle is directly behind our vehicle or does not alert at all. Vehicle was purchased 3 days ago. The front assist does not work or will work after you pull too far forward and already tapped the curb. We stood in front of and side of vehicle and alarm did not sound at all.
The Automatic Emergency Braking abruptly stopped while traveling 50 mph without any obstructions in front of me almost causing a rear end collision from the car behind me. In addition the stop caused minor whiplash.
On 2/11/23, after having my car less than a month and having fewer than 1000 miles on it, I got a critical warning light that told me to stop driving as soon as possible because my 12 volt battery wasn’t charging and my vehicle was not safe to drive. My car had to be towed to the dealership and the power control unit needs to be replaced. I had no clues that I was going to get this warning so it came as a total shock to me that my car was no longer drivable. Luckily I was in a location where I was able to stop driving very quickly and was not on the highway. I was told this part is like the alternator on a non-hybrid car, so like it’s brain. Had I been in a place where it wasn’t safe to pull over, my car could have stopped abruptly causing a major accident. The vehicle has been inspected at the dealership and a part has been ordered. The earliest it may arrive is 3/14/23. This means my car will be at the dealership for more than 30 days. I thought this would qualify my car as a lemon under the lemon law but the dealer is telling me this is not the case because they have ordered the part and it is back ordered.
Hood shakes like crazy at sppeds over 60 MPH, brought to dealer and they said it was "Normal" and there is nothing they can do. it is shaking badly and I worry it will pop up and cause an accident. Not pleased with this at all. Second thing is it has developed a loud wind noise on passengers side "a" pillar near the windshield it seems. Going in to the dealer for them to look at that next week, as was not present when new, and we have now about 12,000 miles on it and it is about 10 months old. Other issue is the drivers side mirror shakes and vibrates lots at highway speeds making it difficult to use day or night, it is terrible. So far, not a happy customer. Lastly, the horn is really not loud enough, and also complained to dealer about that and they said "they are all like that" nothing they can do..
At higher speeds the hood shakes and bounces up and down. I have adjusted the hood bumper stops but to no avail. I have to slow down as a result so I don't damage the hood.
The reverse camera works poorly and is not clearly especially if it’s wet outside. Water smears on the camera more easily than other cars I have owned even if it’s not actively raining. My 2013 g37 and 2017 Mercedes glc300 never had visibility issues for the camera and the Infiniti is 11 years older. Honda states it’s normal. I think it’s a bad design that allows camera lens to hold water on it. It’s a potential danger when reversing during rain or if car is wet.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle. The failure only occurred when the brake pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was test-driven but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to another local dealer, but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
December 2022 two weeks after I leased the vehicle from Roush Honda, due to severe cold weather the driver side mirror cracked and I immediately reported to the dealer with photos via email communication. For 4 months I drove the car unsafely unable to use the driver side mirror, this caused anxiety, stress and dangerous especially merging on the free way and change left late. 4 months after, in April 2023 The dealer replaced the mirror to make the situation worse, and I reported immediately to the dealer. I have also communicated to the dealer management about this safety and endangerment via emails. Since April 2023 to present, while driving, the driver side mirror constantly vibrates, changes positions by itself, it is not adjustable electronically, and it is unstable. My wife and I operated and operate the vehicle over 7 months (December 2022 to present) without the ability to use driver side mirror, which caused and causes stress, anxiety and safely concerns especially merging on the free away and changing left lane. On multiple incidents almost got into terrible fetal accidents with semitrucks on the freeway caused by this unstable and un-adjustable driver side mirror. It is been unsafe over 7 months, endangering myself and my family (wife and 2 kids). Not even once, the dealer offered me rental car while they are trying to fix this dangerous issue. Please do investigate the documentations the proof is there. I am reporting this so no one or family has to go through this endangerment. The pain and suffering from this unsafe driving situation are heavy and continuous. Thanks for your help.
The back two bolts in the driver seat were never installed at the factory, thus the back of the seat is not attached to the car. The dealership did not notice on the PDI. I drive it for a month before I noticed it.
The driver's side mirror has a distorted image. The mirror also vibrates at high speeds. The vibration appears to be in the mirror glass, rather than the mirror housing. The distorted image and the vibration makes it very disorienting, distracting, and dangerous to drive the vehicle. Passenger side mirror appears to not be impacted. Many other people report the same issue online: https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/possible-recall-vibrating-driver-side-mirror.234801/
The hood on my 2023 Honda CRV moves up and down when traveling over the speed of 60 mph. I called my Honda dealership several times and have been told each time not to bring it in because it would be a waste of my time, and this is normal on this model to have a vibrating hood, due to design and use of light weighted metals. They went on to say, there is nothing Honda will do for this. It reminds me of seeing a sewing machine needle move up and down. Not only is it distraction, but I am concerned that one day the hood might pop open while driving, therefore creating multiple hazards.
