MIDDLE ROW SEATS CAN BE CONFIGURED AS BENCH SEATS OR CAPTAINS CHAIRS. IN THE BENCH SEAT CONFIGURATION, THE PASSENGER IS NOT SAFELY RESTRAINED FROM A SIDE OR CORNER IMPACT. THE PASSENGER CAN SLIP OUT OF THE SEAT BELT ON IMPACT, RISKING INJURY OR DEATH. I COMPENSATED FOR THIS WHEN MY SON WAS IN A BOOSTER SEAT BY STRAPPING THE BOOSTER SEAT TO THE SEAT BUT NOW THAT HE IS NO LONGER IN A BOOSTER SEAT HE IS NOT RESTRINED BY THE SEATBELT. PUTTING HIM IN THE SEATS IN THE CAPTAINS CHAIR CONFIGURATION PUTS HIM AT RISK SINCE HE WOULD THEN BE NEXT TO THE DOOR AND POINT OF IMPACT. FORD DEALS WITH THIS BY REQUIRING YOU TO "LATCH" THE SEATBELT ON THE SIDE FACING THE DOOR, WHICH RESTRAINS THE PASSENGER SECURELY. HAVE ANY INJURIES BEEN REPORTED AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT WITH THE HONDA MINIVAN?*AK
WHEN REPLACING BATTERY, AIR BAGS HAD TO BE RESET BY THE DEALER. DEALER CONTACTED. THIS WAS A DESIGN FEATURE THAT HONDA PUT INTO AIRBAG SYSTEM.*AK
WHILE LOADING VEHICLE WITH GROCERIES, AND UPON SHUTTING REAR CARGO DOOR, GLASS SHATTERED AND BROKE INTO LITTLE PIECES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
SEATBELT DESIGN DEFECTIVE ON ODYSSEY MINIVANS. IN THE CENTER ROW OF SEATS, WITH A BENCH SEAT CONFIGURATION, THE SEATBELT DOES NOT PROTECT THE SEAT OCCUPANT FROM THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH FROM A SIDE OR CORNER IMPACT COLLISION. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT THIS IS THE DESIGN OF THE SEATBELT AND THAT THE FLIP DOWN ARMRREST IS WHAT WOULD PROTECT THE BELTED OCCUPANT FROM HARM, WHICH IS NONSENSE. THE FORD WINDSTAR HAS THE PROPER RESTRAINT - THERE IS A SECONDARY LATCH USED TO PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE SEAT OCCUPANT IN THE SEAT. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT INSOFAR AS PEOPLE MAY ALSO PLACE BABY SEATS IN THIS SEAT AND ASSUME THE SEATBELT WILL PROTECT THE CHILD. IT WON'T - THE CHILD SEAT WOULD SLIP OUT FROM UNDER THE BELT. PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT STEPS HAPPEN NEXT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE SLIDING DOORS DONT REMAIN LOCKED (RECALL # 00V-119). NLM
SPEEDOMETER WAS ACCURATE ONLY LESS THAN 40 MPH. WHEN SPEEDOMETER INDICATES 65 MPH, IT IS REALLY 60 MPH AND 70 MPH IS 65 MPH. THE TEST IS PERFORM BY USING A GPS TO READ THE GROUND SPEED. THE GPS WORK ACCURATELY WITH TWO OTHER DIFFERENT VEHICLES.*AK
PASSENGER SIDE SLIDER PERIODICALLY STICKS, SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO OPEN, SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE. WORSE IN COLD WEATHER. SOMETIMES WILL UN-LATCH PARTIALLY, CAUSING DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO COME ON. DEALER HAS FIXED THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES BY LUBRICATING THE SEALS, GIVING A TEMPORARY FIX. IN FREEZING WEATHER NEITHER SLIDER WILL OPEN. AT ONE POINT BOTH DOORS DEVELOPED DENTS FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THAT THE DEALER REPAIRED AS A WARRENTY SERVICE. NOW SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS TOLD ME THAT LUBRICATING THE SEALS WILL HAVE TO BE A REGULAR SERVICE, WHICH I FIND UNACCEPTABLE AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR PASSENGERS RIDING IN THE CAR WHO COULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE. WE ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCKS THAT THE DEALER FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. (CAR IS LX MODEL, MANUAL SLIDING DOORS)
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS HAD FAILED TO SHUT COMPLETELY WHICH CAUSED A BUZZER TO CONTINUOUSLY GO OFF AND THE CABIN LIGHTS TO STAY ON. (WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURED, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SEE AS SHE DROVE DOWN A DIRT ROAD, AND ALMOST DROVE INTO A DTICH) THE CONSUMER HAD GOTTEN THE ENTIRE MECHANISM REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT IS SCARED THAT WHEN THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT, THE OTHER DOOR WILL FAIL AS WELL, AND FEELS THAT HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *SCC
FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS ARE LOOSE. THE CALIPER ASSEMBLIES SHIFT AND CLUNK WHEN BRAKING IS APPLIED AND ALSO CAN BE MOVED BY HAND. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOISY WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS PRODUCING A KNOCKING TYPE OF SOUND. DT
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STAND STILL, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS DURING THE INITIAL RANGE OF MOTION. THIS FORCES THE DRIVER TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE THAN NORMAL IN ORDER TO BREAK THRU THE STICKING POINT THUS CAUSING THE VAN TO SURGE FORWARD. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE SAFELY IN A CONGESTED AREA SUCH AS THE CARPOOL LINE AT OUR CHILDREN'S SCHOOL. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT SEVERAL TIMES BY CLEANING CARBON BUILDUP. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY RETURNS. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ABOUT. EVEN THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HOPE THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE A CHILD GETTING RUN OVER BEFORE SOMEONE DOES THEIR JOB AND FORCES HONDA TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. DT
WE OWN THE LX MODEL WITH THE MANUAL SLIDING DOORS. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES ON BOTH REAR SLIDING DOORS. THEY STICK MOST OF THE TIME TO THE POINT WE HAVE BROKEN THE DOOR HANDLES OFF WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOORS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN VERY WILLING TO REPLACE SEALS ON THE DOORS AT NO CHARGE, BUT WE ARE CONCERNED THAT IF THERE WERE A NEED TO GET OUR CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR IN A HURRY, THAT THE DOORS MIGHT NOT OPERATE AT ALL. THERE ARE TIMES I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS AT ALL. THIS IS A FRUSTRATING PROBLEM - AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO FATHOM WHAT IT IS GOING TO COST ME TO HAVE THESE SEALS REPLACED AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP. YET ONCE THE SEALS FAIL, THE DOORS DO NOT OPEN. WEB SITES LIKE EDMUNDS.COM HAVE SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF ANECDOTAL REPORTS OF ODYSSEY OWNERS WITH CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THESE DOORS. SOMEONE COULD EASILY BE TRAPPED IN ONE OF THESE CARS AFTER AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE SLIDING DOORS WERE CLOSED, THE DOOR CHIME WOULD SOUND OFF WHILE DRIVING. BOTH REAR SLIDING DOORS DID NOT LATCH AND THE DOORS WOULD UNLATCH WHILE DRIVING. PH SCC

WHILE ACCELERATING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. *NLM
THE VEHICLES SLIDING DOORS MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE DOOR NOT TO OPEN FROM INSIDE AND SOMETIMES NOT TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND REPAIRED THE PROBLEM BUT IT RE-OCCURRED. *NLM
WITHOUT USING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WASHER SYSTEM THE TUBE THAT EXTRACTS THE WASHER FLUID EXTENDS OUTWARD. THIS ALLOWS ANY FLUID TO ENTER THROUGH THE WASHER TUBE INCLUDING RAIN. THAT DRAINAGE ENTERS THE VEHICLE COMPARTMENT.*AK
CONSUMER STATES CHILD TURNED KEY IN IGNITION WITHOUT DEPRESSING V BRAKES AND VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD, HITTING A TELEPHONE POLL.*AK
PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOORS GETTING STUCK CLOSED. *MR IT WOULD TAKE TWO ADULTS TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE CONSUMER'S CHILDREN HAD GOTTEN STUCK INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE TOO MANY TIMES. THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM WHERE ALL THE PARTS HAD BEEN REPLACED AND ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE. *SCC *JB
THE FACTORY JACK COLLAPSED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS CHANGING A TIRE. THE JACK COULD NOT SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE VAN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITION INFORMATION. *NLM
THERE WAS STRONG GASOLINE ODOR ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE CABIN. DEALERSHIP NOTICED FUEL TANK FILLER NECK HAD A HOLE. *AK VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND PROPER TESTING WASN'T DONE. THE CAUSE WAS DISCOVERED ON THE FOURTH VISIT. THE SMELL HAD BEEN PRESENT SIX MONTHS OR MORE. *PH
THE VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONSUMER COULD REMOVE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. *AK HONDA WAS NO HELP TO THE MATTER. *SCC *JB
PROBLEMS WITH SLIDING DOOR LATCH ON 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY.*MR THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT DECEMBER 3 - DECEMBER 16, 1999 THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIRING THE DOOR LATCH. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE BROKEN LATCH WAS A FACTORY DEFECT THEREFORE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *NM

THE SEAT BELT LOCKING MECHANISM ACTIVATED WHEN THE CONSUMER'S GRANDSON ATTEMPTED TO PICK SOMETHING OFF THE FLOOR WITH THE SEAT BELT ON. *PH THE SEAT BELT RETRACTED EVEN MORE WHEN THE CHILD TRIED TO PULL THE SHOULDER STRAP IN THE PROCESS TO UNLATCH HIMSELF. CONSUMER TRIED TO LOOK FOR A METHOD TO DEACTIVATE THE LOCKING MECHANISM OF THE SEAT BELT IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL BUT WITH NO AVAIL. THAT LED TO A DECISION TO CUT THE BELT WITH SCISSORS. *LA
