IN JUNE OF 2009, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, HAD IT REPAIRED AT A HONDA DEALER - GOT A 3 YEAR, 36K MILE WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN IN NOVEMBER 2012. CALLED HONDA CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY LX WITH ABOUT 94000 MILES WAS PURCHASED USED BY CURRENT OWNERS WITH ABOUT 22,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY HONDA AT 47191 (APR 21, 2005) AFTER MUCH COMPLAINTS BY OWNER TO DEALERS AND REGULAR MECHANIC. OWNER WAS EVEN TOLD TO FLUSH ENGINE AT A COST OF $70.48. ON JUNE 11, 2009, ODYSSEY WAS CHECKED OUT FOR ROAD TRIP BY REGULAR MECHANIC (OIL CHANGED, FILTERS REPLACED, BRAKES SHOES REPLACED, AND REAR WHEEL CYLS REPLACED) HOWEVER TRANSMISSION FAILED ON ROAD TRIP LEAVING 6 STRANDED IN CA DESERT OUTSIDE OF BARSTOW. CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO REGULAR MECHANIC FOR REVIEW AND REPAIR. OVER THE YEARS THIS CAR HAS RECEIVED REGULAR SERVICE FROM MECHANIC AND TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED AT 67851 MILES BY REGULAR MECHANIC (NOT HONDA DEALER). HONDA HAS DENIED CLAIM FOR TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT DUE TO SERVICE BY NON HONDA DEALER AND THEY ARE REQUESTING PROOF THAT GENERIC TERM "QT SYNTHETIC ATF" WHICH WAS USED BY MECHANIC (AS NOTED ON MECHANICS INVOICE FOR SERVICE DATED 3/19/2007) WAS PURCHASED FROM HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS ACTUALLY A HONDA PART. MECHANIC HAS REGULAR RELATIONSHIP WITH HONDA DEALER AND SUPPLIERS AND CONTINUES TO USE HONDA PARTS FOR HONDA CARS (TOYOTA PARTS FOR TOYOTA CARS, ETC). DURING OWNER'S DISCUSSION WITH HONDA, THEY ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATION REGARDING ATF HONDA PART. OWNER SPOKE WITH MECHANIC REGARDING THIS. MECHANIC WENT BACK TO CLARIFY ORIGINAL 3/19/2007 RECEIPT AND ADDED PHRASE "HONDA ATF-Z1" AND REPRINTED RECEIPT WITH "PRINT DATE: 6/23/2009" SHOWING "WORK COMPLETED DATE: 3/19/2007". HONDA USED THIS CORRECTION TO DENY ALL CLAIM AND SAID THE MECHANIC ALTERED THE INVOICE. THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES IT'S THIRD TRANSMISSION BEFORE 94,000 MILES. OWNER FEELS THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE ESPECIALLY WHEN HONDA IS AWARE OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS DURING THESE YEARS. TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 100,000. TIRES LAST 50,000 - 75,000 MILES, WHY SHOULDN'T A TRANSMISSION. *TR
TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER DIAGNOSIS INDICATES TRANSMISSION INTERNAL FAILURE REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. *TR
PASSENGER AUTOMATIC VAN DOOR ON 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY CONSISTENTLY REFUSES TO COMPLETELY CLOSE EVEN AFTER BEING "REPAIRED" SEVERAL TIMES. DOOR HAS ACTUALLY COME OPEN AFTER VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE. I HAD TO PHYSICALLY HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED WITH FOUR CHILDREN IN THE VAN, TILL MY HUSBAND FOUND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY. WE ARE CONSTANTLY HAVING TO "BUMP" THE DOOR CLOSE AND KEEP SAFETY LOCK ON. MY KIDS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SIT NEAR THIS DOOR. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY BE ADDRESSED BY THE NHTSA AS SAFETY HAZARD THAT HONDA WILL NOT COMMENT ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED, SHOOK, AND SURGED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH GEARS. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SECOND GEAR FAILED. DURING ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT FROM FIRST INTO THIRD GEAR, COMPLETELY SKIPPING SECOND GEAR. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 197,000.
HONDA ODYSSEY 2001 TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR. *TR
HONDA 2001 ODYSSEY MINI-VAN TRANSMISSION FAILURE - HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE VAN WOULD NOT MOVE WITH THE ENGINE ACCELERATING BUT NO MOVEMENT. HONDA HAS A CHRONIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN LITIGATED WITH A SETTLEMENT IN DEC 2006 TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA. HONDA EXTENDED THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY BY 9 MONTHS !! THE FACT IS THAT HONDA SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED - ALL THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE REPLACE BY HONDA AS PART OF THE RECALL. *TR
USING THE VEHICLE DAILY UNDER NORMAL CITY DRIVING CONDITIONS AROUND A SMALL TOWN NOISE WAS HEARD EMANATING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION. INSPECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT FOUND BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKEN AND THE UPPER TURNING BEARINGS DAMAGED DUE TO THE COIL SPRING FRACTURES. THE USAGE OF THE VEHICLE AS A GROCERY GETTER DOES EXPLAIN A POSSIBLE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE AND THE ONLY POSSIBLE EXPLANATION IS A DEFECT IN THE MATERIAL. NO INJURIES OCCURRED. BOTH FRONT COIL/STRUT ASSEMBLIES ALONG WITH THE STABILIZER LINKS NEED TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY ON TRIP TO CHARLOTTE, NC FROM DETROIT, MI. DROVE ABOUT 350 MILES FROM DETROIT AND ALL OF SUDDEN VEHICLE STARTED LOOSING SPEED IN I77 SB. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS BROKE DOWN, POLICE CAME DOWN AND HELP ME TO CALL TOWING COMPANY. TOWED THE VAN @43 MILES TO HONDA DEALER IN PARKERSBURG, WV. DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BLEW UP AND IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ADVISED THAT IT WILL TAKE APPROX 5 DAYS TO FIX IT. I RANTED A CAR ACROSS FROM DEALER AND CONTINUED ON MY TRIP. 3 DAYS LATER, I GOT CALL FROM DEALER THAT THE TR WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE TIME HAS EXPIRED. TR PROBLEM IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE SO IT MUST BE COVERED UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. I AM FEELING THAT I GOT CHEATED BY HONDA BY USING FAULTY PARTS IN CAR WHICH HAS COST ME @3200 DOLLARS. *TR
IN APRIL 2009, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT(CEL) CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE CAR STALLED WHEN I STOPPED. IT RESTARTED AND WOULD REPEAT THIS WITH EACH STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY USUAL GARAGE (THE LIGHT WENT OFF ON THE WAY THERE!) AND THEY SAID THE ONLY CODE THAT COME UP WAS P0172 FOR RICH FUEL, THEY PUT FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN THE GAS AND IT DROVE FINE--WHICH IT DOES WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT OFF. IN MAY, THE CAR 'S CEL WAS STILL SPORADICALLY COMING ON AND STALLING,AND I CALLED THE 800# FOR HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH A RIANO. WHEN I TOLD HIM OF MY CAR'S SYMPTOMS AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS GOING ON OR RECALLS ABOUT THIS HE SAID "NO", AND TO JUST TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR A CHECK. AS THE LIGHT WAS OFF AT THAT POINT AND WHAT I'D GONE THROUGH AT THE OTHER GARAGE I DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL THE LIGHT WAS ON. ON JULY 20TH, I WAS SURFING THE INTERNET FOR SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THE DOT SITE WHICH MENTIONED THE EGR VALVE PROBLEM AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 8 YRS AND 80,000 MILES FOR REPLACEMENT BY HONDA. MY MILEAGE HAD JUST PASSED 80,000 THAT WEEKEND. I CALLED THE 800# FOR HONDA AND SPOKE WITH A BRIAN WHO STATED THAT MY CAR HAD BEEN MADE JUNE 26, 2001 AND IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME TO BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. I TOOK IT TO BILL PAGE HONDA IN FALLS CHURCH, VA, (CEL STILL OFF AT THIS TIME) , THEY SAID IT WAS THE EGR VALVE PLUS A THIRD PRESSURE SWITCH. IF I'D BEEN TOLD OF THE EGR PROBLEM IN MAY WHEN I ASKED RIANO I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN THEN AND BEEN WELL UNDER THE TIME AND MILEAGE FOR THE REPLACEMENT. I FEEL THEY OWE ME THE $835.70 FOR REPAIRS AS THEY "LIED BY OMISSION". THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER. *TR
MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS 77,000 MILES AND SUDDENLY THE CHECK ENGINE, TCS AND THE BLINKING D4 LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER STOPPING IN LIGHTS, THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE AND IT TOOK LONG TIME TO GET TRACTION. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS HURT!! TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST $3900. IN MY OPINION, TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS EARLY AND I WANT HONDA TO TAKE COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT THEY OFFER. *TR
2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED 2 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS LATER. SAME PROBLEM, A BAD TRANSMISSION AT 172,868. 55,781 MILES ON 2ND TRANSMISSION WHICH WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. NOT COVERED BECAUSE OF 3YR/36K WARRANTY. *TR
WE ARE HAVING OUR TRANSMISSION REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. HONDA PAID FOR THE FIRST TWO BUT NOT THIS ONE. CLEARLY SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WHEN YOU ONLY GET ABOUT 30K MILES PER TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND THERE WAS EXCESSIVE GEAR SLIPPAGE. IMMEDIATELY, THE EMISSIONS CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION'S INTERNAL GEAR RATIO. THE VEHICLE IS OPERABLE AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,700.
ON JUNE 28, 2006 I HEARD A NOISE NEAR THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, SOUNDED LIKE A FLAT AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND THE COIL SPRING CRACKED AND WAS IMPINGING ON THE TIRE. HONDA COVERED THE COST OF THE SPRING, BUT NOT THE STRUT OR THE LABOR. ON MARCH 12, 2009- I HEARD A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE RIGHT FRONT PART OF THE CAR AND BROUGHT IT TO A SHOP AND THEY PUT IT ON THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING CRACKED- WE PAID OUT OF POCKET THE COST OF THE SPRING AND THE STRUT AND THE LABOR. IN BOTH INCIDENTS THE CRACKED SPRING CAUSED THE STRUT TO LEAK WHICH THEREFORE REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT. *TR
AS BEST WE CAN DETERMINE (BASED ON NOISE) THE COIL SPRINGS FAILED WHILE PARKING AT LOW SPEEDS. NOT KNOWING WHAT HAD HAPPENED THE CAR WAS USED AT HIGHWAY SPEED FOR A SHORT TRIP FOLLOWING THIS. IT PULLED HARD TO ALTERNATING SIDES (RIGHT AND LEFT). CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO REPAIR WHERE WE WERE ADVISED WE ARE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE HAD THE SPRING PUNCTURE THE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT COST OF $850. THE REASON FOR MY COMPLAINT IS TWO FOLD. FIRST - THIS WAS A DANGEROUS FAILURE THAT I DO NOT FEEL IS ACCEPTABLE IN A CAR OF ANY AGE; AND SECOND - THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HONDA COVER. *TR
(2001 ODYSSEY-ONE OWNER)-TCS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH AT 72,000 MILES/7 YRS & 5 MONTHS ON THE ROAD. VAN STALLED/HARD SHIFTING AND WAS DRIVEN TO NEARBY AUTO REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSIS WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE. TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. HONDA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER SUGGESTED REPLACING THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP AS WELL. POWER STEERING CABLE ALSO FOUND TO BE CORRODED. $850 TOTAL. TCS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN ON 9-2011 WITH 102,000 MILES WITH SOME HESITATION AND A GRINDING NOISE HEARD. DIAGNOSES WAS TRANSMISSION AGAIN (PO-740 CODE ). CALLED HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO SAID IT WAS ABOUT $4000 FOR A "HONDA" REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION, OR THE DEALER COULD DO IT THEMSELVES FOR ABOUT $2600. *KB
ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 26, AS I WAS APPROACHING MY COMPANY PARKING LOT, I HEARD A CRUNCHING NOISE FROM FRONT END. AFTER PARKED VEHICLE I FOUND ICE/SNOW BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND FENDER SKIRT. I THOUGHT NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE ACCUMULATED ICE/SNOW, SO I REMOVE IT FROM VEHICLE. WHEN I LEFT AFTER WORK, THE NOISE WAS STILL PRESENT. I TURNED INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND DISCOVERED THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT SPRING WAS BROKEN AT THE LAST COIL AT BOTTOM OF THE SPRING. BROKEN SPRING ONLY HAD ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES IN THE LOWER SPRING SEAT TO SUPPORT VEHICLE'S WEIGHT. THE BROKEN PORTION WAS HANGED ON THE BROKEN SPRING. THE NOISE WAS FROM THE BROKEN PORTION TOUCHING ROLLING WHEEL. THE BROKEN SECTION WAS VERY SHARP WHICH POSED GREAT DANGER OF PIERCING, OR PUNCTURING THE TIRE. WHEN I ASKED THE HONDA DEALER TO REPLACE THE SPRING, I WAS TOLD THE SHOCK ABSORBER WAS DAMAGED BY THE BROKEN SPRING. CONSEQUENTLY THE STRUT HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY I DROVE ON A LOCAL STREET AT A LOW SPEED THAT DAY. HAD THE SPRING BROKEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH, I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR HIGHWAY ACCIDENT, WITH POTENTIAL FOR FATALITIES. A METALLURGIST TOOK A LOOK AT THE SPRING AND TOLD ME THE CAUSE WAS DUE TO CORROSION ACCELERATED PREMATURE FATIGUE FAILURE. THE METALLURGIST ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HONDA HAS CHANGED SPRING DESIGN AFTER 2001 MODEL. I CALLED HONDA NORTH AMERICA AND INFORMED THEM OF THE INCIDENT AND DEFECTIVE SPRING. I BELIEVE THIS DEFECT THAT COULD GREATLY IMPAIR THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, IF IN FACT A TIRE IS PUNCTURED, OR STEERING IS IMPAIRED, DUE TO A BROKEN SPRING. HONDA REFUSED TO ANALYZE THE FAILURE AND TOLD ME TO SCRAP, OR TO THROW AWAY, THE BROKEN SPRING. I KEEP THE BROKEN SPRING IN MY POSSESSION. IF NHTSA WOULD LIKE EXAMINE AND ANALYZE THE BROKEN SPRING, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE IF AN INVESTIGATION IS WARRANTED, I WILL SEND IT TO YOU UPON YOUR REQUEST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AND WAS SHIFTING HARD. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO JERK UPON SHIFTING GEARS. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED AT SEVEN YEARS OR 100,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURRED FIRST. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY TWO MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED $1,200 OFF THE COST OF THE $3,700 REPAIR COST THAT WOULD BE THE CONTACT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 74,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 25 MILES AN HOUR WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE COME FROM THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO DO A VISUAL CHECK OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH LOOKED FINE.UPON STARTING UP AGAIN IT STARTED TO SOUND LIKE I WAS DRAGGING METAL. I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT RIGHT HOME AND CALL THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. AFTER THEIR INSPECTION THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRONT RIGHT COIL SPRING HAD CRACKED AND BROKEN. THIS WAS SOMETHING THEY WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH AND SAID THAT WITH MY MILEAGE THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED AND IN FACT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AT ALL. UPON BEING GIVEN THAT DIAGNOSIS I DECIDED TO TALK TO OTHER CERTIFIED REPAIR PEOPLE AS WELL AS TWO OTHER HONDA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY AGREED THAT IT IS NOT A NORMAL ISSUE. UPON EVEN FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS COMMON, BUT ON ONE WEBSITE I FOUND 24 OTHERS WHO REPORTED THE SAME INCIDENT ON THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF IT HAS HAPPENED TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE HOW MANY MORE ARE THERE THAT HAVEN'T REPORTED THIS ISSUE AND HAS ANYONE BEEN INJURED BECAUSE OF IT. RIGHT NOW MY VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP SO I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT THE FINAL REPAIR WILL CONSIST OF OR IF IT WILL LEAD TO ANY OTHER ISSUES .THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE. *TR
OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY JUST REQUIRED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 113,000 MILES, AND AFTER JUST 60 MILES OF DRIVING IT'S NOT WORKING AGAIN. READING A DISCUSSION FORUM I DISCOVERED THAT THE ODYSSEYS HAVE HORRIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, SOMETIME LEADING TO SAFETY ISSUES. OURS HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS AND SMELLS TERRIBLE. *TR
PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT OPEN ANY LONGER. THERE ARE 19 SERVICE BULLETINS REGARDING THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE DOORS BUT YET NO RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH WERE REPAIRED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN MAY OF 2008, THE TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY BEGAN SLIPPING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA SHOULD REPAIR. HONDA EXPLAINED THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE PART, BUT NOT THE LABOR. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE HONDA TO PAY FOR THE LABOR AS WELL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 89,000.

TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC, AND THE SAW THAT THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND HAD CUT INTO THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THE MECHANIC STRONGLY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE STRUT ASSEMBLY AS WELL AS DOING THE DRIVER SIDE. SINCE I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT REPAIRING CARS, I WANTED TO RESEARCH PRICES ON THE INTERNET. MY SEARCH TURNED UP A RECALL ON THE PART FOR A 2001 ACURA MDX, BUT ONLY THESE COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2001 ODYSSEY. I DID REGISTER THE COMPLAINT WITH HONDA. THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES. *TR

2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN POWER SLIDING DOORS KEEP FAILING ESPECIALLY IN ICY CONDITIONS. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE HAD MY CHILDREN IN MY CAR WHEN THE DOORS FAILED TO OPERATE FULLY. I HAD TO CRAWL TO THE BACK THROUGH MY FRONT DOORS TO REACH MY VERY YOUNG CHILDREN TO PUT THEM IN AND OUT OF THEIR CAR SEATS. THEN I NEEDED TO DRIVE HOME IN ICY CONDITIONS WITH THE DOOR PARTIALLY OPEN NEXT TO ONE OF MY CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, ONE OF MY CHILDREN HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT MAKES GETTING TO THEM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE VERY IMPORTANT FOR THEIR SAFETY. THESE POWER DOORS ARE SIMPLY HAZARDOUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO FIX THESE. AFTER SPENDING A COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS WITH THE DEALER TO TRY TO FIX THIS, THE DEALER GAVE ME A NEW 'FIX'. I NEED TO REMOVE A FUSE FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN REPLACE THE FUSE. THE DOORS NEEDS TO BE 'RESET' I.E. IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT IN A SENSOR RATHER THAN AN ACTUAL PHYSICAL PART NEEDING REPLACED. I HAVE REPLACED NEARLY EVERY PART OF ONE OF MY SLIDING DOORS AND STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AFTER IT HAS BEEN ICY. USUALLY MY HUSBAND CAN MANUALLY OPERATE THE DOOR AFTER THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT I AM NOT AS STRONG AS HE IS AND I CANNOT FULLY OPEN OR CLOSE THE DOOR. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP OUR 2001 ODYSSEY IN MY SON'S SCHOOL PARKING LOT THE BRAKE PEDAL--WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING--WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COASTED PAST MY INTENDED STOPPING POINT BY ABOUT 20 FEET. LUCKILY NO PERSON OR VEHICLE WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME AT THAT TIME. I WAS ABLE TO RESTORE BRAKE FUNCTION BY PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE NEXT DAY MY MECHANIC EXAMINED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. HE EXPLAINED THAT WHEN THE SEALS ON THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAK THE FLUID COLLECTS IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM HE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MASTER CYLINDER. HE THOUGHT THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS VERY VERY UNUSUAL. HE SPECIALIZES IN IMPORTED VEHICLES AND HAD NEVER BEFORE REPLACED A LEAKING MASTER CYLINDER ON A HONDA ODYSSEY OF ANY MODEL YEAR. OUR ODYSSEY IS A 2001 MODEL, IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN LESS THAN 64,000 MILES. *TR

THEY HOPED THE SECOND ERROR CODE WOULD GO AWAY, BUT IT DIDN'T. NOW I AM LOOKING AT A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS EXPENSE TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ON THE DAY OF THE VISIT 9/26/2008 HAD 80,702 MILES ON IT. THE PROSPECT TO PAYING $100 EVERY TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON IS NOT A PLEASANT ONE. VEHICLES BUILT TODAY SHOULD NOT REQUIRE TRANSMISSIONS & EMISSION CONVERTER AT A MERE 93,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RELIABILITY OF MY HONDA ODYSSEY.
