ON MY WAY TO WORK ON JANUARY 14, 2014, AS I WAS GETTING UP TO SPEED (FROM 0 TO 20), THE ENGINE REVVED AROUND 2000 RPM, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE 2ND GEAR. I BACKED OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP AND I DROVE IT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED AN INTERNAL ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. I HAVE OWNED 7 HONDAS SINCE 1983, AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE VAN IS AT A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP REBUILDING THE TRANSMISSION FOR $1500, HONDA WANTED $5300. THE VAN HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS AND I'M VERY SURPRISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD GO AT 141,000 MILES, BUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ODYSSEY LINEUP OVER THE YEARS. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES PRIOR TO PURCHASE. DISAPPOINTING. *TR
EXPERIENCING VIBRATION IN VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATION BETWEEN 40-60 MPH. TOOK THE VAN TO MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT TWO MOTORS MOUNTS ARE BAD AND NEED REPLACING. THESE ARE NOT WEAR AND TEAR ITEMS AND SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH HONDA ODYSSEY VANS AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT BEING COVERED BY WARRANTY SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURS AROUND 100K TO 150K MILES. *TR
VAN HAS MANUAL SLIDING DOORS. UPON SHUTTING PASSENGER SIDE DOOR NORMALLY THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM EITHER THE INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR. CHILD SAFETY LOCK WAS OFF. LOCK MECHANISM WORKS NORMALLY BUT DOOR LATCH WILL NOT DISENGAGE. SIX MONTHS LATER AT 172000 MILES THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE RESULTING IN A SEVEN PASSENGER VEHICLE WITH NO EGRESS FOR PASSENGERS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. UPON REMOVAL OF INTERIOR DOOR PANELS IT IS CLEAR THERE IS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE LATCH MECHANISM. ALL CABLES AND CONTROLS WORK NORMALLY BUT THE LATCHES HAVE FAILED. *TR
WHILE THERE IS ALREADY A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED CONCERNING PROBLEM (BULLETIN #: 11-039). THE RESPONSE BY HONDA IS NOT ADEQUATE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS (SUCH AS TURNING INTO AND OUT OF PARKING SPOTS). ALTHOUGH THIS DEFECT WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP ONLY OCCURS AT LOW SPEEDS IT STILL A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FACT THAT IS VERY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL CAN REASONABLE LEAD TO PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT SUCH AS PEDESTRIAN BECOMING PINNED AGAINST A CAR. HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART TO 7 YEARS / 100,000 MILES. I HAVE UNDER 80,000 MILES ON MY CAR BUT HONDA CLAIMS I AM A FEW MONTHS BEYOND THE 7 YEAR DATE. HONDA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FURTHER EXTEND THIS WARRANTY AS MANY PEOPLE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND IT COULD LEAVE TO INJURY TO PERSONS IN PARKING LOTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN A BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE REAR AND FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT A FAULTY VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40-60 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED DURING ACCELERATION AND THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
AT LOW SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING IS VERY TIGHT AND DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. EXAMPLE: PARALLEL PARKING.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS SERVICED BY HONDA DEALER EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR OIL CHANGE AND OTHER SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. RIGHT AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED LAST AUGUST 2013, SANTAN HONDA IN CHANDLER HAD TOLD ME THAT I HAD TWO CRACKED ENGINE MOUNTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER RACED NOR TOWED ANYTHING. IT WAS PURELY USED BY WIFE TO HAUL MY DOGS TO THE PARK AND GROCERY THE COST WAS CLOSE TO $900 INCLUDING PART, LABOR AND TAX. I HAVE AFRAID THE OTHER ENGINE MOUNTS WILL FAIL ANYTIME SOON. IT IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR ENGINE MOUNTS TO FAIL IMMATURELY AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I HAVE SEEN MANY ODYSSEYS OWNER OF MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS.PLEASE REFER TO ANOTHER COMPLIANT NUMBER 10425453. PLEASE INVESTIGATE IF IT QUALIFIES FOR A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION KEY BECAME STUCK, BUT IT FINALLY TURNED IN THE SWITCH AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY. POWER STEERING FAILED AT CAR PARK, DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VAN OUT OF PARKING SPOT,POWER STEERING RESUMED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. PROBLEM RECURRED MULTIPLE TIME USUALLY FROM STARTING THE VAN AND STEERING IT OUT OF PARKING SPOT. HONDA FOUND THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO BE FAULTY AND REPLACED IT WITH ME FOOTING THE BILL OF $687.13,AS THE VAN WAS JUST OUT OF THE SEVEN YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS NOTED WHEN THE VAN WAS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD BUT HONDA COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AT THEIR CENTER....THEY NEVER MADE A NOTE OF THIS IN THEIR RECORDS! *TR
I WAS TAKING CARE OF MY TIMING BELT CHANGE AT DEALER AND I MENTIONED MY VEHICLE VIBRATING A LOT LATELY AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND FRONT AND REAR MOTOR MOUNTS BROKEN WHICH IS UNUSUAL FOR FAMILY VAN WHICH HAS ONLY 71000 MILES AND DRIVEN VERY CAREFULLY.COST OF REPAIR IS ABOUT 2000 DOLLARS AND I SAW MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE WHEN I SEARCHED ABOUT IT. *TR
APPEARS THAT THERE IS AN O RING ISSUE ON THIS YEAR HONDA ODYSSEY. AIR IS GETTING IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP/LINES CAUSING A WHINING DURING TURNS AND ACCELERATION. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT WARRANTS A "TSB" TO THE MECHANICS AND SERVICE INDUSTRY, HOWEVER, HONDA HAS YET TO ANNOUNCE A RECALL OR OFFER ASSISTANCE IN THE MATTER. THIS IS OUR SECOND HONDA...WE DROVE AN ACCORD TO 246K MILES AND ARE BIG HONDA FANS. HATE THAT THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND NO RECALL. *TR
THE TRUNK DOES NOT STAY OPEN. IT ALMOST CAUGHT MY ARM AND HAND. *TR
ON MY 2006 ODYSSEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES AT AROUND 19,000 MILES DUE TO SHAKING OF THE CAR WHEN BRAKING. RECENTLY AT 34,000 MILES THE VSA WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VSA MODULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT'S DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE MINIVAN. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THE VSA IS A COMMON ISSUE. I QUESTION THE QUALITY OF SUCH AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT AND THE HIGH PRICE TO REPLACE, OVER $1000. WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE SUCH PARTS SHOULD NOT GO BAD. I SEE THAT HONDA ISSUED A RECALL FOR A VSA ISSUE BUT FOR 2007-2008 ODYSSEYS. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD INCLUDE ALL YEARS. *TR
VEHICLE SHUDDERS WHILE ACCELERATING AND WORSE WITH TURNING LEFT ONTO FREEWAY ONRAMPS ETC. CAUSES SOME DIFFICULTY STEERING AND NEED TO ENTER FREEWAY AT VERY SLOW SPEED DISRUPTING TRAFFIC. *TR
REAR DOOR LIFTGATE FAILED, REAR DOOR WOULD NOT STAY OPEN AND SLAMMED DOWN ON MY HEAD/TORSO WHILE TRYING TO REMOVE ITEMS FROM THE BACK. *TR
POWER STEERING STILL DOES NOT WORK AT SLOW SPEEDS. I HAD THE FIX DONE AT THE DEALER BACK WHEN HONDA OFFERED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY AND FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THOSE VEHICLES HAVING ISSUES (2012), BUT IT IS ALREADY DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. NOW HONDA WANTS ME TO PAY TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AND NOISE OUT OF THE POWER STEERING IN THIS VEHICLE SINCE DAY 1 AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. HONDA POWER STEERING PUMPS MUST BE DEFECTIVE FOR THERE TO BE SO MANY PEOPLE WITH TROUBLE. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP IN MY HONDA WHEN I STOPPED TO SEE IF I WAS GOING TO HIT SOMETHING. I AM SURE I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK, STARTED TO EXIT THE VAN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, I WAS THE DRIVER, AND REALIZED THAT THE VAN WAS MOVING BACKWARDS. I HAD MY LEFT FOOT ON THE GROUND BEFORE I KNEW I WAS MOVING. THE DRIVERS DOOR HIT ME AND I WAS ON THE BLACK TOP HITTING MY FACE AND KNEES, MY RIGHT LEG WAS UNDER THE VAN AND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE TORE UP MY RIGHT LEG. MY DRIVERS DOOR CLOSED AND I YELLED FOR HELP WHICH SEVERAL PEOPLE CAME TO MY AID. THE PEOPLE WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF MY VAN AND THEY LIFTED THE VAN OFF MY LEG. I WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THEY STITCHED UP MY LEG AND TOOK SEVERAL X RAYS, I HAD NO BROKEN BONES. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS FOR MY WOUNDS TO HEAL AND MY KNEE STILL HAS A LOT OF PAIN. *TR
DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. MY VAN SUDDENLY GAVE A LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND AND THE CABIN FILLED UP WITH SMOKE AND I COULD NOT BREATHE OR SEE PROPERLY. I WONDERED WHAT WAS GOING ON AND QUICKLY PULLED UP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT TOOK ME SOME TIME TO GET OUT OF THE VAN SINCE I AM DISABLED. MY HUSBAND HAD TO LITERALLY SPEAKING, CARRY ME OUT AND SAT ME ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PASSERS BY HAD ALREADY CALLED 911 WHEN THEY NOTICED WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE POLICE, AMBULANCE AND FIRE DEPT CAME. THE FIRE DEPT DETERMINED THAT MY VAN WAS SMOKING HEAVILY AND THEY TOOK CARE OF THE FIRE IN MY ENGINE WHEN THEY OPENED THE HOOD. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT THIS WILL THEN BE THE THIRD TRANSMISSION IN A VAN THAT IS LESS THAN 8 YEARS OLD. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN JULY 2011 AT 80,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED THEN WITH PROMISES FROM HONDA THAT I WAS GOOD FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS. SO WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED EXACTLY 2 YEARS TO THE TIME THAT THE SECOND TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO HONDA AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A THIRD TRANSMISSION. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT I ALWAYS SERVICED MY VAN WITH THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS NEVER BEEN SERVICED WITH THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I AM STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS ON MY VAN AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION? I WILL APPRECIATE AN INVESTIGATION ON WHY HONDA IS ALLOWED TO SELL LEMONS TO CONSUMERS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON THE ODYSSEY VANS. SMOKE AND FIRE DUE TO RECURRING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON THE SAME VAN IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I PRAY THAT NO ONE WILL BE KILLED OR INJURED DUE TO RECURRING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH HONDA ODYSSEY VANS. POWER STEERING GROANS LOUDLY IN WEATHER BELOW 70 DEGREES. THE BLOGOSPHERE IS RIFE WITH REPORTS OF A FAULTY O-RING PLACEMENT IN THESE ODYSSEY'S THAT IMPACTS THAT OPERATION OF THE POWER STEERING. *TR
DRIVING ON A MAJOR 4 LANE HIGHWAY @ APPROX. SPEED OF 70. SUDDENLY THE STEERING WENT OUT OF CONTROL. IT WAS LOOSE,BUT I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL. THE ROAD WAS DRY,TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 70 DEGREES. FORTUNATELY,I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO A GRASSY MEDIAN STRIP WITHOUT HITTING ANYBODY,OR HAVE THEM HIT ME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE. THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. WE CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE,WHO TOLD US TO BRING IT TO A DEALER WHICH WE DID. THEY HAD NO FINDINGS. BOTH OF THESE PLACES FEEL THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BUT TOLD US TO COME AND GET IT. WE,NEEDLESS TO SAY, ARE VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT WITH THIS VAN. *TR
I AM WRITING YOU IN REFERENCE TO MY HONDA ODYSSEY THAT WAS PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2006. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR (2013) THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. I HAD TO HAVE THE VAN TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP IN VERMONT TO GET FIXED. THE SHOP HAD TO DO A TRANSMISSION REBUILD. THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT COST ME THREE THOUSAND AND FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE DOLLARS ($3463.00). I SPOKE WITH THE OWNER OF THE AUTO SHOP AND HE ADVISED ME THAT HONDA ODYSSEY'S ARE KNOWN TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I ALSO VERIFIED THIS INFORMATION ON-LINE. *TR
POWER TAILGATE OPENED AND CAME RIGHT DOWN HITTING MY WIFE. SHE WAS NOT HURT. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE HONDA WE WERE TOLD THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY SYSTEM THAT WOULD MAKE THE TAILGATE GO BACK UP IF IT CAME DOWN ON A PERSON OR OBJECT. WHICH IS WHAT IT HAS DONE IN THE PAST. WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALER HONDA OF SUMNER AT 7:30 AM ON 8/12/2013 TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. WE TOOK IT INTO TODAY AND A GUY ( NOT A SERVICE GUY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM.) I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS TO BE A TAILGATE STRUT PROBLEM WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS A RECALL ON 2008-2009 MODELS. ACTION NUMBER EA08-015. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL PUMP LEAKAGE RECALL NOTICE AND REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN AUGUST 2013, PRIOR TO THE RECALL. *JB
HONDA TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 67K MILES. TRANSMISSION IS STILL WITH THE 3YRS/ 36K WARRANTY IN TERM OF THE YEAR BUT OVER THE MILEAGE BY 31K MILES. HONDA TRANSMISSIONS ARE VERY UNRELIABLE AND THE COMPANY DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRING OF THE AIR BAGS WAS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED AND AS A RESULT, THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE VALVES, REAR BRAKES AND THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS 113,000 MILES.
AFTER DRIVING FUEL SMELL FROM REAR OF VEHICLE AND FUMES ENTER CABIN AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING. INSPECTED FOR LEAK FOUND LIQUID FUEL DRIPS FROM TOP OF FUEL TANK, REMOVED INTERIOR COMPARTMENT ACCESS PANEL AND FOUND SPIDER CRACKS IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING. AS SOON AS VEHICLE IS STARTED THE FUEL SEEPS FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP. WILL NEED FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT. IN PROCESS OF CONTACTING MANUFACTURER - HONDA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WAS ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR, THE DOOR FAILED TO CLOSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THE DOOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THREE YEARS LATER THE DOOR FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, HE SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO FUEL VISIBLE ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL TANK AND SENDING UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I PARKED MY VAN AND OPENED THE MANUAL REAR PASSENGER DOOR. THE REAR DOOR LATCH WOULD NOT OPERATE WHEN WE TRIED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I HAVE A 9 YEAR OLD SON WHO RIDES IN THE SEAT ADJACENT TO THE DEFECTIVE DOOR. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT REPLACING THE LATCH AND ALSO THE DEFECTIVE ROLLER ARM WOULD COST $296. *TR
VSA LIGHT TURNED ON AT START-UP AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. DEALER TEST RETURNED AN ERROR CODE ON THE VSA MODULATOR REQUIRING A $1300 REPLACEMENT. *TR
THE 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS 100,600 MILES, WE WERE DRIVING APPROX 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, AND THE RPM'S INCREASED GREATLY BUT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. SOON, WHITE SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE FRONT AS WE COASTED TO THE NEAREST EXIT APPROX 1 MILE AWAY. IT TURNS OUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. ALL REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMED. TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH JUST 100K MILES. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 06 HONDA ODYSSEY WHICH I BOUGHT WITH ALITTLE OVER 35000 MILES. I JUST TOOK VAN IN FOR SERVICE AND GOT THE BAD NEWS IT NEEDS MOTOR MOUNTS! HAD TO LAUGH TO MYSELF THINKING THE DEALER WAS FULL OF IT. NO WAY COULD A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILES POSSIBLY NEED MOTOR MOUNTS! SO DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE ARE A TONS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE OBVIOUSLY IS A BAD DESIGN IF SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. OF COURSE WHEN YOU CALL HONDA THEY DENY THAT THE PROBLEM EVEN EXIST! SOMEONE NEEDS TO HOLD THE COMPANY ACCOUNTABLE! THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF DANGER FOR OUR FAMILY'S SAKE! I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY USED AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND HAD THEM DO AN INSPECTION AND COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS LOW. (NOTED IN MY WORK ORDER). THEY TOLD ME THE REAR BRAKES WERE THE CAUSE AND NEEDED REPLACING. I AGREED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND TO CHECK FOR ANYTHING ELSE IT MAY NEED.MY VEHICLE PASSED THE NYS INSPECTION. AS SOON AS I ENTERED THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER I NOTICED THE PEDAL HAD NOT IMPROVED. I WENT BACK IN TO COMPLAIN AND THE MANAGER STATED THAT THE LOW PEDAL WAS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES IN MY LIFE AND WHEN THE PEDAL GOES FURTHER DOWN THAN THE GAS PEDAL AND ALMOST TOUCHES THE FLOOR WITH NEW BRAKES INSTALLED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. WHEN STOPPED THE PEDAL WILL TRAVEL ALMOST TWO MORE INCHES BEFORE GETTING "HARD". I KNOW HONDA HAS SOME KIND OF BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE BUT I CANT SEEN TO FIND IT. THE VEHICLE TAKES LONGER TO STOP AND THE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND SPONGY. IM CONCERNED THAT I WILL REAR END SOMEONE BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE NOT SAFE. *TR
HONDA HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PAINT ON AT LEAST A DOZEN DIFFERENT MODELS AND YEARS...EXCEPT MINE. THE PAINT ON MY HOOD AND ROOF STARTED CHIPPING AND PEELING AWAY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND NOW IT'S SPREAD TO MANY OF THE FENDER SEAMS, AS WELL AS SEAMS AND JOINTS ON THE ROOF. WHILE IT'S "ONLY PAINT"...WE ALL KNOW THAT RUST LEADS TO STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ISSUES, HOLES AND CAN ALLOW WATER AND ELEMENTS IN TO DAMAGE THE ENGINE. SO, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A "VISUAL" ISSUE. I'D LIKE HONDA TO ADDRESS THIS FOR OUR CAR.

RECENTLY IT HAS STARTED LUGGING BETWEEN 15 AND 20 MILES AN HOUR AND THE LUGGING IS OFTEN PRECEDED BY A WHINING SOUND. SPOKE WITH HONDA MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE COULD BE AN ISSUE WITH TORQUE CONVERTER AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY PROBLEM IS WITH MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL PAN THREADS WERE STRIPED. WE WERE INFORMED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA AND ACURA. FROM MY RESEARCH THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 1984. THE PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S STEEL OIL PANS IS THE DRAIN PLUG THREADS ARE FREQUENTLY DAMAGED AND THE DRAIN PLUG SEALING AREA TENDS TO DISTORT. HONDA USES AN ALUMINUM SEALING WASHER TO SEAL THE DRAIN PLUG AGAINST THE PAN. FROM MY RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM IS THE FLIMSY THREADS AND THIN SHEET METAL CAN NOT TAKE THIS AMOUNT OF TORQUE AND WILL FAIL AFTER REPEATED OIL CHANGES. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED A HELICOIL AS A POSSIBLE PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. IF THAT DOES NOT WORK THAN ULTIMATELY I HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE OIL PAN WITH OE EQUIPMENT. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT IS HONDA HAS NOT CORRECTED THE FLAW, SO IN A FEW YEARS I WILL BE IN THE SAME POSITION OF HAVING STRIPPED OIL PAN THREADS. NO ONE WANTS TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD AND LOSE OIL PRESSURE BECAUSE THE TREADS OF THE OIL PAN HAS STRIPPED OVER TIME. AND CONSUMERS DO NOT WANT TO SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS EVERY FEW YEARS REPLACING AN OIL PAN BECAUSE OF HONDAS FLAWED DESIGN. *TR
THE POWER STEERING PUMP IN OUR ODYSSEY STARTED MAKING A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE, AND AT SOME LATER TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE STEERING PUMP NOISE WAS INTERMITTENT, AND OCCURRED AT LOW AND IDLE SPEEDS ONLY. THERE WAS NEVER A LOSS OF STEERING CAPABILITY, BUT THE SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL LEADS TO DRIVER DISCOMFORT AND DRIVER FATIGUE. HONDA HAS SINCE REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AT A REDUCED COST TO US, BUT THE NEW PUMP HAS NOT SOLVED THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY. THE SHIMMY IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE EFFECTS OF A BENT WHEEL OR A OUT OF BALANCE TIRE, BUT DIFFERENT WHEELS AND DIFFERENT TIRES, IN ADDITION TO MULTIPLE TIRE RE-BALANCES HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE STEERING SHIMMY OCCURS ONLY AT SPEEDS ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH, AND SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER ABOUT 70 - 100 MILES OF DRIVING. WITHIN THIS DRIVING SCENARIO, THE SHIMMY CAN GET VERY BAD, AND THEN AT TIMES COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR. BUT FOR MOST OF THE TIME, THE SHIMMY IS PRESENT. AT SPEEDS BELOW 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEHAVES VERY WELL. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS PROBLEM IS UNIQUE TO MY VEHICLE, OR IF OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES. IF IT IS GENERIC TO THE VEHICLE DESIGN, THEN HONDA NEEDS TO PROVIDE ODYSSEY OWNERS WITH AN ECONOMICAL SOLUTION. SHOULD THE PROBLEM PERSIST, I WILL HAVE NOT CHOICE BUT TO SELL THE VEHICLE BECAUSE, ASIDE FORM THE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES, IT DOES NOT PROVIDE THE DRIVING COMFORT THAT WE NEED. *TR

THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT LATER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE SPOOL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR WAS ON BACKORDER. THE FAILURE CONTINUOUSLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY IN WET CONDITIONS INCLUDING FAILURE OF WINDOW WIPERS, HEADLIGHTS, DOOR LOCKS, AND REAR SLIDING DOORS. AS DESCRIBED IN HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-078 THIS IS A RESULT OF A DEFECT IN THE TRIM PANEL THAT EXPOSES ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR C701 BEHIND THE LEFT REAR SIDE TRIM PANEL TO MOISTURE. *TR
MY ODYSSEY LOST POWER/WOULDN'T ACCELERATE/WOULDN'T SHIFT AS WE APPROACHED THE TOP OF A 7% GRADE. WE PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED FLUIDS ETC.. EVERYTHING WAS FINE. WE TRIED TO GET GOING AGAIN AND THE VAN WOULDN'T GO. WE SAT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND TRIED AGAIN, AND THE VAN GOT GOING AGAIN PERFECTLY FINE. WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO HONDA WHEN IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN. HONDA DIAGNOSED IT WITH A BAD TRANSMISSION/TORQUE CONVERTER. THE ATF FLUID WAS BURNT (MY ODYSSEY HAS THE ATF FLUID COOLER TOO). THE TECH SAID THE VCM (ECO MODE, VARIABLE CYLINDER MANAGEMENT) INCREASES THE LOAD/STRESS ON THE VEHICLE AND IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR OF THE BREAK DOWN. MY ODYSSEY HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AT HONDA Y HONDA SPECS/RECOMMENDATIONS. I HAD NO PREVIOUS INDICATION MY TRANS WAS GOING OUT (NO GEAR SLIPPING ANYTHING. IT DROVE FINE UP UNTIL IT BROKE DOWN) I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA FOR ASSISTANCE IN THE REPAIR, AND THEY FAILED TO EVEN OFFER ANY SORT OF HELP. FROM WHAT I'VE GOOGLED, HONDA ODYSSEYS HAVE COMMON TRANS/TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUES AND AMERICAN HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS ON THE ODYSSEYS. AFTER THIS, I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER HONDA. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE BECAUSE OF AN INHERENT DESIGN PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION. BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP STOPS WORKING CORRECTLY INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, THE PRESSURE IS TOO LOW AND THE TRANSMISSION GRINDS ITSELF UP. THE CAR WILL SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND STOP MOVING. THERE IS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE ABOUT IT IN PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $4000 OR MORE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AFTER 7 YEARS EVEN IF THE CAR HAS 150,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,001.
