THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP OF MY COMPLAINT NUMBER 11076339. ON THAT COMPLAINT I FORGOT TO REPORT THAT ON 2/18/18 AFTER A LONG WEEKEND AWAY AND NOT DRIVING THE VAN FOR 4 DAYS, WHEN I TRIED TO START IT THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I HAD TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE (GEICO) WHO DISPATCHED A TOW TRUCK TO JUMP START MY VAN. SINCE THEN ALMOST EVERY TIME I START OR TURN OFF THE KEY TO MY VAN IT TELL ME "BAT LOW'. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND AGAIN THEY TELL ME THAT THE VAN WORKS AS DESIGNED, THAT I NEED TO DRIVE THE VAN EVERY DAY FOR LONG RIDES. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL THESE 2011 ODYSSEYS AND RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE WITH THIS MATTER. I ACCELERATED WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND MY DRIVERS SEAT TOPPED COMPLETELY BACK OFF THE BASE. SEAT BOTTOM AND BACK REMAINED TOGETHER. 2 "TORX" BOLTS WERE LATER FOUND ON FLOOR BY DEALER UNDER THE SEAT. NO ONE INJURED AS NO ONE WAS SITTING BEHIND DRIVER AND MY SON WAS IN PASSENGER SEAT AND ABLE TO HELP ME TIP BACK FORWARD TO WHERE I COULD GRAB STEERING WHEEL TO HANG ON TO IN ORDER TO REACH OUR DESTINATION. WE WERE IN MOTION ON A COUNTY ROAD. GOING STRAIGHT. VAN HAD BEEN REAR ENDED A YEAR PRIOR SO AFTER HONDA DEALER LOOKED AT IT WE TALKED TO THEM ABOUT TRYING TO GO THROUGH INSURANCE AS IT WAS ROCKING AFTER ACCIDENT AND THEY TIGHTENED IT. THEY TALKED TO HONDA BECAUSE I SAID I WANTED NEW BOLTS. HONDA SAID THEY DID NOT SELL SEPARATELY JUST WHOLE SEAT. THE BODY SHOP SAID THESE BOLTS HAD NO SIGNS OF EVER HAVING THREAD LOCK APPLIED TO THEM. THEY APPLIED THREAD LOCK AND PUT THEM BACK IN THE SEAT. I RESEARCHED ONLINE FOUND NOTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING BOTH HONDA DEALER AND BODY SHOP SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. IN A WORSE SITUATION MYSELF OR MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF THE WHEEL. PERFORMANCE KINGS HONDA AND GERBER COLLISION IN BLUE ASH OHIO ASSISTED ME. I AM STILL AFRAID IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
HAVE A BRAND NEW BATTERY AND EVERY TIME I START OR WHEN I TURN OFF THE VAN IT TELLS ME "BAT LOW". THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE BATTERY SENSOR BUT THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY. I TOOK VAN SEVERAL TIMES TO DEALER BUT THEY SAY: THE VAN RUNS AS DESIGNED, BUT, HOW IRONIC, IT COULD NOT PASS THE NYS INSPECTION.THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT FOR 60 MILES AT HIGH SPEED AND HOPEFULLY IT WOULD THEN PASS INSPECTION. IT DID. THERE IS A DESIGN FAULT WITH THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM AND HONDA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY. ATTACHED IS THEIR SERVICENEWS ARTICLE OF FEB 2011 OUTLINING THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. HONDA NEEDS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL. THANK YOU. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED AN UPDATE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" AND "LOW BATTERY" SENSOR INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEFFREY HONDA (30800 GRATIOT AVE, ROSEVILLE, MI 48066), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
CABLE ON RIGHT SLIDING DOOR SNAPPED A WEEK AGO, BROUGHT TO HONDA DEALER AND THEY STATED IT NEEDED A NEW CABLE. YESTERDAY WHEN OPENING DOOR WHEN VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, HARD TO OPEN, FINALLY OPENED AND GOT MY INFANT OUT, WENT TO CLOSE DOOR, HARD TO CLOSE THEN FELL OFF THE TRACK, BENT PIECES ON THE INSIDE OF DOOR.
IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR MY WIFE TOOK HER VAN IN FOR TPMS LITE BEING ON. WAS TOLD THE THE TIRE VALVE NUT HOLDING IT TO THE WHEEL HAD COME LOOSE AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE VALVE, NUT, AND WASHER. ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THEY SEE A LOT OF THESE WAS A COMMON HAPPENING. THIS MONTH DECEMBER 2017 SHE TOOK IT AGAIN FOR THE TPMS LITE CAME ON AGAIN. AS BEFORE THEY REPLACED ASSEMBLY SHE PAID HER BILL AND LEFT. HERE'S MY CONCERN FOR HER SAFETY AS WELL AS MINE. IF TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED AND THIS NUT CAME LOOSE THE LITE WOULD COME ON, BUT IF VALVE CAME TOTALLY LOOSE AND TIRE OVERHEATED AND BLEW OUT WOULDN'T THIS BE A SAFETY CONCERN? MOST OF THIS WAS OVERNIGHT ONCE AND THEN DRIVING IT ONCE.
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. TOOK TO SHOP BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REVELED. AFTER 2 WEEKS DOING SAME PROBLEM. MASTER CYLINDER BEEN CHECKED WITH NO ISSUES
LOCATION, STATEN ISLAND, NY. DATE, 10/29/2017. TIME, ABOUT 9:45PM. DROVE OVER A FEW PUDDLES IN POURING RAIN AND A HILLY ROAD. SUDDENLY, THE CHECK CHARGE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. A MINUTE LATER, IT WAS RESTORED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A MINUTE LATER. THEN IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY HOME. EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS IF THE LOSS OF ALTERNATOR POWER CAN IMMEDIATELY CAUSE LOST OF STEERING.
ON OCTOBER 15, 2017 AT 10:20PM MY GRANDSON WAS HEADING TO MY HOME AND WHILE LEAVING THE EXPRESSWAY, BOTH OF THE FRONT SAFETY BAG COVERS BLEW OUT HITTING HIM AND THE FRONT PASSENGER. HOWEVER, THE BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT A COLLISION BUT WHEN THE COVER HIT HIS EYEGLASSES, ONLY A SIZZLING SOUND WAS HEARD AND POWDER POWDER CAME OUT CAUSING THE LOOSE OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE HITTING IN A FRONTAL MANNER ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT PASSED BY. MY VEHICLE SUFFERED IMPORTANT DAMAGES BUT MY GRANDSON DID NOT SUFFER INJURIES EXCEPT FOR THE BROKEN EYEGLASSES. HIS FRIEND SUFFER BRUISES IN HIS ARM CAUSED BY THE COVER. I WENT TO THE HONDA DISTRIBUTOR HERE IN PUERTO RICO AND EXPLAINED THE CIRCUMSTANCES ON HOW THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED BUT INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON RECORD FOR VEHICLES WITH TANAKA MECHANISM. I TOLD THEM TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE SO AS TO DETERMINE FAILURE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE BUT THEY DECLINED AND REFERRED ME TO AMERICAN HONDA FOR THEIR ADVISE. I AM SURE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS THAT MUST BE INVESTIGATED BY A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN IN THE AREA OF BAGS SAFETY PERFORMANCE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR SINCE IT COULD HAVE COST THE LIFE OF MY GRANDSON AND HIS FRIEND. I WILL CALL AMERICAN HONDA AND MAKE THEM AWARE OF THE ISSUE. PLEASE, ADVISE AND WHERE POSSIBLE INDICATE FURTHER STEPS. AT THIS MOMENT THE DISTRIBUTOR REPRESENTATIVE WAS RELUCTANT TO CARE FOR THIS INCIDENT AND GOT RID OF ME IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES OFFERING THE TELEPHONE OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE WHOLE VAN STARTED VIBRATING AD SHAKING LIKE THE VAN WAS GOING TO COME APART.I CHECKED ON THE NHTSA REPORTS AND A LOT OF THIS IS HAPPENING. SOME DEALERS ARE SAYING DIFFERENT THINGS AND HONDA IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.IT SEEMS LIKE THE DISKS ARE TO SMALL FOR THE WEIGHT. 1 PERSON HAD RACING DISK AND BRAKES PUT ON AND NO PROBLEM.OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE BRAKES REDONE BY HONDA AND ABOUT A FEW THOUSAND MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED. CHECK TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ON YOUR WEB SIGHT. ( NOT SAFE FOR US ) . I KNEW A WHILE BACK HONDA ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS.BUT, I THOUGHT THEY FIXED THAT BY NOW. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. I JUST TURNED 40,000 MILES. AFTER 6 YEARS. ALL OTHER SERVICE HAS BEEN GOOD.
SUNROOF OF OUR ODYSSEY EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE SAW THAT GLASS WAS BOWED OUT. SERVICEMAN AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS LOOKS TO HAVE OCCURRED FROM PRESSURE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. WE HAD NO CARGO AND NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE SUNROOF. LUCKILY KIDS WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME AND VEHICLE WAS IN CONTROL, BUT THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE INJURY.
CLEARCOAT IS FADING AND PEALING
AT 95K MILES, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT COOLING, FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER USED FOR TOWING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A CHRONIC THEME (BAD TRANSMISSIONS) WITH HONDA ODYSSEYS.
THE CABLES ON BOTH REAR PASSENGER DOORS BROKE ( SNAPPED) WHILE WE WERE PUTTING OUR SONS ON THEIR CAR SEATS AND TRIED TO CLOSE THEM SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE REAR AUTOMATIC BUTTONS, WHEN THEY GOT TO THE END OF THE FRAME THEY WOULD REOPEN.WE WERE PARKED AND COULDN'T GET THEM TO CLOSE. SO FINALLY WE HAD TO CUT THE CABLE IN ORDER TO CLOSED THEM. WE CALLED THE DEALER REGARDING ANY RECALLS ON THIS , BUT UNFORTUNATELY DIDN'T GET ANYWHERE. PLEASE HELP...THANK YOU . WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THEM WORKING . ALSO THE HEAT ON THE DRIVER SIDE STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME....WE DEALT WITH IT OPENING THE MANUALLY FOR MONTHS. PLEASE HELP ON THIS
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND CABLE. COATED CABLE RUSTED AND SNAPPED. SUBSTANDARD CABLE QUALITY. PREMATURE FAILURE. CAR WAS STATIONARY. CABLE SNAPPED AND POPPED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE POTENTIALLY INJURING PERSON STANDING NEAR DOOR. DOOR UNABLE TO CLOSE WITHOUT UNREASONABLE FORCE POSING DANGER TO PASSENGERS RIDING WITH OPEN DOOR. PASSENGER CAN NOT EXIT CAR WITH CABLE SNAPPED. CAN NOT REPLACE JUST THE CABLE CAUSING UNDUE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. SEAT HEATER- FAULTY, CRIMP IN HEATER BROKE CAUSING FAILURE WITH NORMAL USE BY 100 POUND PERSON.
WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE, FACING DOWN HILL, I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE PASSENGER SIDE MOTORIZED SLIDING DOOR TO ALLOW THE KIDS IN. THE DOOR OPENED HALF WAY. I HEARD A SNAP AND THE DOOR SLAMMED SHUT. LUCKILY THE KIDS WERE NOT GETTING INTO THE CAR YET OR WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN INJURED. FOUND THAT ONE OF THE WIRES THAT RUNS THRU THE DOOR MOTOR HAD SNAPPED. ONLY REPAIR FOR THIS I'M TOLD BY DEALERSHIP IS REPLACEMENT OF THE MOTOR. COMMON PROBLEM FROM WHAT I'M READING AS WELL.
THE LATCH TOWARDS THE FRONT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE (SINGLE SEAT ON THE THIRD ROW) ON THE VERY FAR RIGHT SIDE DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. THE SEAT FALLS BACKWARDS WHEN MY 8 YEAR OLD SON SITS ON IT. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR NOT. THE SEAT GOES IN A BACK WARD MOTION WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN IT WITH THE PRESSURE OF THEIR BACK LEANING ON IT. I FEEL THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL.
I REPORT AN ISSUE WITH OUR VAN DOOR LAST YEAR THAT I FELT WAS PRETTY SERIOUS. I NEVER HAD A FOLLOWUP ON YOUR END TO THIS ISSUE. REFERENCE NUMBER PROVIDED WAS 10983098. HONDA OFFERED A DISCOUNTED REPAIR BUT I FELT THIS A BIGGER SAFETY ISSUE. I DID NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE CHECK BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON. IT'S NOT A BATTERY ISSUE. I HAVE INSTALLED A BRAND NEW BATTERY. ONCE THE VOLTAGE DROPS THE VEHICLE BECOME SLUGGISH AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IN A HIGH-SPEED SITUATION SUCH AS ON A BUSY FREEWAY. IN DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY WIDESPREAD ISSUE. BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY DEATHS AS A RESULT OF IT YET. I DO NOT BELIEVE HONDA IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE. IT APPEARS TO BE AFFECTING SOME LATER MODELS AS WELL.
A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR MECHANISM. THE DOOR WILL OPEN AND CLOSE WHEN USING THE BUTTON OR REMOTE BUT WILL NOT REMAINED LATCHED. AFTER THE DOOR SHUTS, THE LATCH WILL LET LOOSE AND THE DOOR WILL BE OPEN AJAR ABOUT AN INCH OR SO CAUSING THE BEEPING AND DASH ALERT THAT THE DOOR IS OPEN. THE ONLY RESOLUTION TO QUIET THE BEEPING IS TO REMOVE THE FUSE FOR THAT DOOR AND USE IT MANUALLY.
MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND A FLASHING "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" WARNING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SENSOR. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY JUST TO BE SURE AND THE ERROR IS STILL THERE. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH WE HAVE COME TO KNOW THIS IS A COMMON FAULT IN THE ODYSSEY'S AND HAS YET TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY HONDA.
AN UNLOCKED SECOND ROW OUTBOARD SEAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. RECALLED ON LAST DEC 2016, BUT STILL INCOMPLETE
NOV OF 2016 TOOK MY 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SHUDDER BETWEEN 40-45 MPH. SERVICE TECH STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDS TO BE DRAINED PER HONDA PROCEDURE. FLUIDS WERE DRAINED AND SHUDDER STOPPED. MAY 2018 TOOK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE IN 2016 AT THIS TIME SERIVCE TECH STATES THAT MY FRONT BRAKE CALIPER, LEFT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT NEED REPLACING. THOSE ITEMS WERE REPLACED. THEN OCT 2019 BACK AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AGAIN WITH THE SHUDDER AT 40-45 MPH. THE SERICE TECH NOW STATES THAT MY TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AGAIN PER HONDA PROCEDURE THAT ITS DARK AND DIRTY. AFTER LOOKING AT TRANSMISSION FLUID ITS NOT DARK OR DIRTY. STILL TRANSPARENT AND NO BURNT SMELL OF BAD FLUID. AFTER RESEARCHING THESE YEAR MODEL VANS ARE BIG ON TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEMS. SERVICE TECH PERFOMED A SNAP SHOT AND VERIFIRED TORQUE CONVERTER JUDDER BUT ARE NOT WANTING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SOFTWARE HAS BEEN UPDATED AND STILL HAVING SAME ISSUE WITH SHUDDER. HONDA DECLINES TO ACCEPT THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO A PILLAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
THE ENGINE REPORTED EMISSIONS FAILURE FOLLOWED BY VSA ACTIVATION. THIS WAS LATER DIAGNOSED TO ENGINE MISFIRE AND DAMAGE TO THE PISTON RINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. IT ALSO STARTED VIBRATING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP WITH ALL REQUIRED AND OPTIONAL SERVICES PERFORMED.
I PARKED MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY DAUGHTER'S PLAYDATE'S HOUSE AND STEPPED OUT FOR LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO PICK HER UP, LEAVING MY 8 YEAR OLD SON IN THE THIRD ROW IN THE VAN. AFTER HELPING HER WITH SHOES AND A JACKET MY DAUGHTER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME THEN TOLD ME MY SON WAS SCREAMING. I THOUGHT HE WAS SCREAMING BECAUSE HE WAS UPSET WITH ME. I RETURNED TO FIND MY SON WITH A RED FACE, STREAMING TEARS AND HOLDING ON TO THE SEAT YELLING, "MOM! I CAN'T BREATHE! THE BELT'S AROUND MY NECK! HELP ME!" INDEED MY SON'S NECK WAS ENTANGLED IN THE SECOND ROW MIDDLE SEAT BELT. TRYING TO REMAIN CALM I TRIED TO RELEASE THE BELT AT THE ANCHOR POINT ATTACHED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT WITH THE MALE END OF THE BUCKLE BUT IT COULD NOT REACH BECAUSE THE BELT HAD RETRACTED TOO FAR AND LOCKED. I TRIED TO GET HIM TO TURN TO UNTANGLE BUT THE BELT WAS TOO TIGHT AND CONTINUED TO RETRACT AND LOCK FURTHER WITH ANY ADDITIONAL MOVEMENT. I RAN BACK TO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE HOUSE, BANGED ON IT AND YELLED FOR A PAIR OF SCISSORS. SCISSORS IN HAND I RAN BACK TO THE VAN. THE OTHER MOTHER RAN BEHIND ME, SAW MY SON ENTANGLED (NOW PALE-FACED BUT STILL BREATHING) AND WATCHED ME CUT THE SEAT BELT TO RELEASE HIM. THE BELT WAS SO TIGHT THE CAPILLARIES AROUND HIS EYES, ON HIS FACE AND NECK HAD BURST LEAVING RED SPOTS. RED LINES WERE EVIDENT AROUND HIS NECK AND A BRUISE THE SIZE OF A HALF DOLLAR WHERE THE BELT HAD TWISTED WAS VISIBLE. HE DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION AS HE DID NOT LOOSE CONSCIOUSNESS. THE NEXT DAY I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND NURSE; HIS TEACHERS FOLLOWED SUIT. I OFFICIALLY PURCHASED A USED 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP ON OCTOBER 5, 2016. BEFORE I LEFT WITH THE NEW VEHICLE, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DIVISION REPLACED BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS ON THE VEHICLE (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS FOR SERVICE/REPAIR INVOICE DATED 10/4/2016). ON OCTOBER 7-8, 2016, I DROVE THE CAR ON A STATE HIGHWAY IN SOME MOUNTAINOUS AREAS BOTH ON A UPHILL AND DOWNHILL SLOPE AT ABOUT 30-50 MPH. I NOTICED THAT ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES EVEN SLIGHTLY, THE CAR BEGAN TO PERCEPTIBLY SHUDDER. THE GREATER THE SLOPE OF THE ROAD, THE GREATER THE SHUDDERING EFFECT. I RETURNED WITH THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER UNRELATED REASON, BUT INQUIRED ABOUT THE SHUDDERING AND ASKED IF DURING THE DEALERSHIP'S SAFETY INSPECTIONS IF ANY PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE BRAKES HAD BEEN DISCOVERED, SINCE THE PADS WERE BRAND NEW. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE ROTORS HAD BEEN WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM BRAKING. AFTER I PRESSED HIM FOR MORE INFORMATION, HE TOLD ME THAT VIRTUALLY EVERY RECENTLY-PRODUCED HONDA ODYSSEY (I.E., MODELS MANUFACTURED IN THE LAST 5-10 YEARS) THAT HE HAD SEEN COME THROUGH THE SERVICE DIVISION EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR WARPING PROBLEM AFTER NEARLY EVERY 30,000-40,000 MILES DRIVEN. IN HIS OPINION, THE ROTORS INSTALLED IN HONDA ODYSSEYS WERE ACTUALLY MUCH TOO SMALL (I.E., THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SURFACE AREA) TO BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE HIGH AMOUNTS OF HEAT CAUSED BY THE LARGE BRAKES REQUIRED FOR THE RELATIVELY LARGER MODEL OF VEHICLE (THE VAN). HE WENT AS FAR AS TO TELL ME THAT HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO INSTALLING LARGER-THAN-RECOMMENDED ROTORS IN SOME OF HIS CUSTOMERS' VANS TO TRY AND AVOID THE PROBLEM. HE SAID HE WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF A RECALL WOULD BE FORTHCOMING ON THE ROTORS. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION ON THESE ROTORS TO INITIATE SUCH A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCLEAN'S AUTO BODY IN GOLETA, CALIFORNIA. FROM THERE, THE TECHNICIAN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE THE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED, BUT WAS NOT TOWED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO A DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V933000 (SEATS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
PUTTING BRAKES ON AT HIGH SPEED, LIKE AT INTERSTATE SPEED, VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE, AND VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. WARP FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT, BUT HAS BEEN DOING IT SINCE ABOUT 30,0000 MILES. USUALLY NOT A PROBLEM SINCE MOST OF MY DRIVING IS IN THE CITY, BUT WHEN USING THE INTERSTATE IT IS SCARY IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. FEELS LIKE YOU CAN LOOSE CONTROL.
MY VAN WAS INVOLVED IN THE HONDA ODYSSEY RECALL FROM 2013 REGARDING MISSING RIVETS IN THE DRIVERS AIRBAG. I BROUGHT IT IN TO HONDA AND THEY REPAIRED AND INSPECTED THE AIRBAG IMMEDIATELY IN 2013. I RECENTLY WAS IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. LUCKILY, MY ONLY INJURY WAS WHIPLASH AND PTSD. HOWEVER, I'M VERY WORRIED THAT MY AIRBAG DID NOT PROPERLY DEPLOY TO PROTECT ME FROM SERIOUS INJURY. MY ACCIDENT INVOLVED ME HITTING ANOTHER STOPPED VEHICLE AT APPROX 50MILES AN HOUR. BATTERY WARNING CAME ON SO REPLACED BATTERY. LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER SO HAD BATTERY TESTED AS WELL AS ANYTHING THAT WOULD DRAIN BATTERY LIFE. EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. BUT NOW EVERY TIME I OPEN THE DOOR OR TURN OFF THE CAR THE CAR LOUDLY BEEPS A LOW BATTERY WARNING. FED UP WITH IT. IF CAR WAS NOT PAID OFF I WOULD TRADE IT IN BUT WOULD THINK TWICE BOUT GETTING ANOTHER HONDA SINCE THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM.

I WAS PARKED IN OUR LEVEL DRIVEWAY, WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING, AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AFTER MAKING SURE IT WAS IN PARK. SHUT THE DOOR, AND THE CAR ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY OVER A SMALL HILL AND HIT THE RAILROAD TRACKS IN FRONT OF OUT HOUSE. NO ONE WAS INJURED.THE PARKING MECHANISM ON THIS VEHICLE DID NOT OPERATE EFFECTIVELY, THE SHIFTER SAID IT WAS IN PARK,AND THE CAR JUMPED INTO GEAR.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEN, WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE GAS PUMP KEPT SHUTTING OFF. FOUND THAT THE GAS EVAPORATOR WAS FULL OF WATER. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAVE NO CLUE HOW WATER COULD GET IN THERE. I BELIEVE THIS COULD CAUSE MAJOR ISSUES WITH EMISSIONS OR EVEN A POSSIBLE FIRE DUE TO GAS FUMES NOT BEING ABLE TO BE ABSORBED BY THE CHARCOAL FILTER IN THE EVAPORATOR. I WOULD THINK THAT HONDA WOULD TAKE THIS SERIOUS AND FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE/PROBLEM.

HAVE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH TPMS LIGHT ON MY HONDA MINI-VAN. THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS SOMETHING THEY CANNOT FIX. HONDA CORP NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND INFORM DEALERS HOW TO FIX THE TPMS INDICATOR LIGHT. I HAVE READ THAT SMART PHONES, LAPTOPS, ETC CAN CAUSE THIS PROBLEM, WHICH SHOULD NOT EVEN BE AN ISSUE. I WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY SMART PHONE WITH ME FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. TECHNOLOGY SHOULD NEVER BE AN INTERFERENCE ISSUE WITH TPMS. THIS INDICATOR JOLTS/SCARES ME WHEN IT COMES ON, MOST TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER TODAY TOLD ME TO PUT BLACK TAPE OVER THE LIGHTS SO THEY DON'T BOTHER ME, THAT WAS THEIR ANSWER!! THE HONDA DEALER WAS INCORRECTLY TELLING ME THAT IT WAS A RADIO FREQUENCY ERROR DUE TO THE ELECTRONICS IN MY CAR. I WENT TO ANOTHER PLACE, WHO DIAGNOSED AND FIXED THE TPMS PERFECTLY. ALTHOUGH THERE IS A RECALL (R72) FOR THE HONDA ODYSSEY 2011 FOR WIPERS DISCONNECTING FROM MOTOR. HONDA REFUSES TO FIX MY ISSUE AS THEY SAY IT DOESN'T FALL WITHIN THE AFFECTED BATCH. THE SYMPTOM IS EXACTLY THE SAME. THEY ARE NOW CHARGING ME $30 FOR THE PART AND $220 WITH INSTALLATION. THIS HAPPENED EXACTLY AS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL.
