NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
Issue Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ) has a total failure of the Multipurpose Camera, permanently disabling the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS). In addition to these, the regular Cruise Control is also disabled. These are primary safety systems, not elective conveniences. Persistent Failure: Errors occur immediately upon every startup. Mid-Drive Danger: Systems have deactivated multiple times while in motion, causing sudden, unpredictable loss of driver-assist features at highway speeds. Total Loss of Control: Both Adaptive and Standard Cruise Control are completely disabled, forcing manual-only operation. Infrastructure Failure: The failure prevents the vehicle from recognizing lane markings (RDM/LKAS), leaving the car unable to assist in steering corrections. Safety Risk: The vehicle can no longer perform emergency braking or provide collision alerts, significantly increasing the risk of high-speed crashes. This is a premature failure of a non-wear safety electronic at 91k miles. It is a severe safety defect that leaves the vehicle unequipped with the crash-prevention technology it was designed to have. Manufacturer Response: American Honda (Case #16167889) and NCDS (Case #XXX) denied assistance, citing the expired 3yr/36k warranty. I contend this is an extension of the known electrical architecture defects in this model year (e.g., Recall 23V-431), and a component intended for the life of the vehicle should not fail such that it disables multiple safety systems simultaneously. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The Auto Idle Stop system causes the engine to stall or fail to restart after being stopped. The error that comes on sometimes says "Collision Mitigation System Problem" on the dashboard, or sometimes "Transmission Problem. Apply Parking Brake When Parked", but either way it happens when I release the brake to drive again after a stop when the Auto Idle Stop comes on. To fix, I'll have to turn off the car and turn it back on.
Engine has been running very rough the last 20k miles, and East Coast Honda in Surfside Beach, SC noted engine bearing wear prior to the rough engine performance during a service visit in May 2023. In June-July 2025 driving on [XXX] driving between Washington D.C. and Surfside Beach, SC, we went to pass and the engine cut RPM's drastically and went into 'limp mode' nearly causing an accident with the sudden decrease in speed. We have asked American Honda Customer Service [800-999-1009] to provide an engine evaluation but they have declined and have stated our VIN is not included in the rod bearing recall/TSB. We did mentioned about the further investigation for 2018 Honda Odyssey's but was advised any action we take would not be compensated since the vehicle is out of warranty by date and mileage (73,000 miles). My van started making noises and driving weird. Took it in to get checked out. These are the issues found: SAFETY RECALL: 2018-19 ODYSSEY CONNECTING ROD BEARING : 2024-04-19 TSB : ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL : 2023-11-13 TSB : SAFETY RECALL: 2016-19 MULTI-MODEL CONNECTING ROD BEARING STOP SALE : 2024-03-08 The vehicle is available for inspection at request.
The power liftgate stopped working so the rear door won’t latch. We had to drive home with it closed but not latched and beeping the whole way. I believe water has leaked into the control unit from the roof. The error on the dashboard says Tail Gate: Power tailgate problem
There is a recall on other 18 model year vans for the rod bearing failure. This happened to me on my van and it has had regular oil changes and has around 139000 miles on it. This could have been catastrophic for the ones around me if I was driving on the interstate and the bearing gave out and hurt my family due to the engine seizing. The vehicle has not yet been inspected due to this just happening. I am not the only one with this model year having this issue and my vin not being covered by the existing recall. There were no warnings prior to the issue. Oil was always clean and changed on time. This vehicle has a good history report and records.
Windshield monocular camera overheated. No longer working.
The transmission is very jerky and has completely lost power before. It has refused to shift and stalled in the middle of the road. It is very scary.
Check engine light came on while driving and engine making rattling noise. Stopped vehicle and restarted with difficulty starting and loss of engine power. Towed to nearest Honda dealer and diagnosed with cylinder 3 rod bearing damage. Engine replaced under Honda extended warrenty with used engine per warrenty company preference. Called Honda customer service to report the incident. They confirmed my VIN was not included on the recall for vehicles of the same year with similar issues. They confirmed over the phone that they would file a NHTSA report on my behalf, but I have not seen the report on this website.
Honda issued a recall on the fuel pump December 2023. They did not have any parts available to replace mine. I had brought in my Odyssey Elite to Space Coast Honda multiple times before the recall stating my engine wouldn't crank. I was unable to get the fuel pump replaced until December 5, 2024. ONE YEAR after the recall. I am now getting Emissions System Problems and Stop Driving When Safe Engine Temperature Too Hot. The dignostics that were pulled were P219A Secondary P219A, P0420, P219A. Also, my intake manifold gaskets are leaking coolant. I have had nothing but problems with this van since April 5, 2023 with my car not starting and stalling. My kids and I were stranded at their school two times and there were multiple times at my work. I don't believe I should have to pay thousands of dollars for these items to be replaced since I believe they're an issue due to me driving on a faulty fuel pump. I even called Honda Customer Service multiple times and they told me to keep driving it even though I expressed concern for my kids and having been stranded multiple times. Both dealerships said there was nothing wrong even though I brought it in multiple times for the same issue.
Automatic Idle Stop function causes car to stall in the middle of roadways. Idle is initiated when car comes to a complete stop at intersections, traffic lights, etc. Instead of rolling back on, engine stalls and brake seizes up, causing us to block traffic in the middle of roadways, intersections, traffic lights, etc. Car does not restart when power button is pushed. Only solution that has worked is to completely turn car off, open driver door and pretend to be ending trip by getting out, closing the door, walking away so car locks, waiting 30 seconds, then reapproaching the car and starting over from the beginning. This obviously causes major issues in the middle of roadways. On one occasion, no solutions worked, the brake pedal completely seized, and the battery had to be jumpstarted, despite the fact that it was a fairly new and undamaged battery. Problem persists even after changing battery.
The passenger side sliding door was generally having issues with latching fully closed. But even after managing to get the sliding door fully closed, the rear passenger sliding door partially opened up by itself whilst going over a speed bump. It seems to be very dangerous for a sliding door to even partially open itself while the vehicle is driving and in motion. I've asked Honda to look at this pursuant to recall No. 20V-437 (which would seem to be the issue described in the recall of the door opening by itself), but Honda is advising that I may need to pay for even the diagnosis out of pocket without any acknowledgement that the repair or diagnosis will be covered. Date below is very approximate - all of this has happened over the last month or two.
The vehicle would make noises and stalls during accelerations and decelerations. It would struggle to shift into gear, especially from 1st to 2nd gear. When the vehicle comes to a stop at traffic lights or stop signs, it's really hard to get the car to move when accelerating. In high speed on the highway, the vehicle would struggle to increase speed when accelerating and the vehicle would automatically slow down and get weighted down. This would result in having to pull over. Sometimes, the vehicle would not be able to be put into Park, and automatically shifts to Neutral not allowing it to be put into Park mode. When attempting to put it back onto Drive, the vehicle would not go and emission and transmission warning would start flashing. The majority of the time, the emission or transmission warnings would not flash. This is very frightening because I was not able to control the speed of the vehicle, and luckily when the car automatically shift to N and came to a stop, I was able to pullover to the side of the busy highway right on time. The car has been inspected for the same issues in the last 3-4 years by the dealership for the same problem. The transmission fluid got changed and that was all. Now it's happening again.
Defect-Linked Electrical Failures and Refusal of Support – 2018 Honda Odyssey I am filing a formal complaint regarding Honda’s refusal to cover a known, dangerous defect in my 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle is experiencing electrical and system-wide malfunctions that directly match Technical Service Bulletin 21-013, yet I’ve been denied goodwill coverage, and I am being forced to pay out-of-pocket for diagnosis and repair. The problems include: •Ongoing, loud popping sounds from the speakers while driving and after shutdown •System power failures, with audio and Bluetooth activating before the key is turned •Low battery warnings without cause •Factory HondaVAC system failure, now showing “PWR SAVE” despite a running engine I am a parent of five children and rely on this vehicle for daily transportation. These failures not only distract and stress the driver but compromise safety, communication, and vehicle reliability. Honda’s decision to shift financial responsibility for a known defect to the customer feels unjust and exploitative especially as many others have reportedly received goodwill repairs for the same issue. I am asking for assistance in holding Honda accountable under Massachusetts consumer protection laws. This is not typical wear and tear it is a manufacturer defect with ongoing safety implications. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Suddenly the Van gave me 5 different warnings as below. 1. Adaptive Cruise Control problem. 2. Lane Keep Asist Problem 3. Collision Mitigation System Problem 4. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 5. Auto High-Beam Problem On top of these, 'Brake System' light also turned on.
Fuel pump failed. Other Honda Odyssey's of same year had a fuel pump recall. This particular VIN was not included but failed in a similar manner. We were required to pay out of pocket to repair. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:23V-858
The forward camera on this vehicle fails and you lose all your adaptive cruise control, regular cruise control, Lane assist, emergency breaking, and adaptive high beams. This is the second failure of the camera since I have owned the vehicle 1.5 years and 30000 miles.
I have an intermittent set of warnings on Honda odyssey 2018 "lane keeping assist problem" "adaptive cruise control problem" "collision mitigation system problem" "road departure mitigation system problem" all at the same time will appear on the dashboard. I had brought it up to the dealership when under warranty and they were unable to resolve it. It comes and goes at random.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the rear end of the vehicle unintendedly lowered. The contact stated that while driving over a bump or depression in the roadway, the vehicle was bouncing. There was no warnings light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the rear shocks and parts of the rear suspension had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that several months prior to the failure, the front shocks and the steering arms were replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
All the safety systems randomly disable themselves while driving and throw this code. Next time the vehicle starts, sometimes they are gone, then come back while driving, other times they are there from the start. U0104(00) [0xC10400] Data bus, cruise control module - no communication
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH, with the check engine warning light remaining illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with connecting rods failure in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 90,000.
My vehicle is having symptoms described in the recall (Safety Recall: 2018–23 Odyssey Fuel Pump Motor - RCRIT-23V858-259). Although my VIN number does not show eligible for this Recall but I am having symptoms mentioned on this recall: 1. Difficulty starting Car and its intermittent. 2. Car Stalled at the Red light, traffic stops few time putting at the risk of being rear ended. 3. Engine hesitate when driving and feel jerky moves or unable to pick speed as it should normally. 4. Check Engine light shows up with all other functions disabled. 5. Local Honda Dealer code scanner tool to check error code and they reported DTC P0087. When I searched this symptoms I came across this Recall with same symptoms but My Vehicle does not qualify based on VIN # search. I need to issue resolved as it puts my family at the risk of being in an Accident while driving on roads for day to day activity.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated when the vehicle was shifted into park(P), the contact was unable to shift the vehicle out of park(P) into drive(D). The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V299000 (Power Train, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
I have had four diagnostics on this vehicle and it's pointing to sensors which are inside the transmission transmission was not leaking and wasn't slipping or nothing I went to get in the vehicle after it was sitting for an hour and I put it in reverse it went right back in the park I put it in dry went right back in the park I couldn't get it out of the park and it was saying on the dash that stop driving one safe transmission problem emission system problems okay like a four diagnostics that are saying that it is sensors transmission pressure sensor A park neutral switch is bad power source failure steering angle low voltage sensor failure four different things I cannot get any help I hear a bunch of different stories some are saying the transmission not so we're saying it's not a transmission isn't slipping I drove it car was fine it won't go into drive I've been told and I researches so much that if it's happened on the road it could slam in the park the be able to roll they could crash it's a very bad safety issue there are recalls on 50,000 of this year of the Honda Odyssey I'm being told that my VIN number is not on the recall list I don't understand why not it's doing exactly what all the other 50,000 recalls are doing and I can't get help fixing mine
9 speed transmission issue: Ever since I purchased this vehicle around 50,000 miles in February of 2021 (mileage currently at 118,048), I noticed a very obvious delay in acceleration from a complete stop. Changing to eco drive mode and sport mode changes slightly, but still has delay. Transmission fluid has been changed 3 times since owning this vehicle and everytime it has, there was no noticeable changes in symptoms. Delayed acceleration occurs more consistently at normal operating temperatures. Brought vehicle to honda dealership after purchasing. They performed a TCM software update. Problem still occurs to this day. Multiple occasions occured where me and my girlfriend are driving and attempting to make a safe left turn only to proceed, but in process of attempt, the vehicle delays while facing oncoming traffic.
Vehicle is indicating all sensing system not working such as Lane Keeping Assist System, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Warning system, adaptive cruise control and others. Honda installed a cheap product on this vehicle when it was originally manufactured and is double dipping by selling us in a 7 year period another set of the same cheap product . Dealer is quoting me $3,139.80 to replace a radar and a camera both at the same time
Driving on the freeway my lane keeping assistance, automatic emergency breaking, and adaptive cruise control warnings were flashing. The prompts keep my focus off the road as the beeps and flashing orange lights cannot be disabled. During my drive, the multicamera on the windshield seems to be malfunctions and often I would get a signal of on coming traffic and my steering wheel would vibrate to prompt me to move. This can be extremely terrifying and sometimes caused me to swerve, potentially hitting other cars. The multicamera needs to be recalled and fixed.
Engine shut down driving on [XXX] in Colorado just past [XXX] (XXX). Had to pull over and car towed to shop that found engine would not start, locked and could not rotate by hand. They suspect timing may have jumped causing major internal damage to engine, possibly bent valves. Hole found in side of engine block thought to be from cap or other component breaking off. I recently began hearing a strange noise when starting the engine of my 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. While driving, I also noticed reduced acceleration and a change in engine sound when pressing the accelerator, indicating a performance issue. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, where they diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning fuel pump and recommended a full replacement. I am aware that Honda has issued fuel pump recalls affecting a number of vehicles, including some 2018 Odyssey models. However, when I checked my VIN, it showed no active recalls. Despite experiencing the exact symptoms associated with the recalled fuel pumps, I am being asked to cover the full cost of replacement—approximately $1,700—including parts and labor. I believe this may be the same defect covered under the broader fuel pump recall and request that Honda reevaluate whether my vehicle should be included. I am requesting either coverage of the repair under warranty or a goodwill repair to address what appears to be a known issue.
It seems the front dash camera failed to operate which caused all safety systems that rely on it to fail
Safety Recall #18-128, Power sliding door rear latches was performed on or around September of 2020 on my vehicle. Last week (04/30/2025), my passenger side sliding door would not open. After removing passemger side inner door panel to inspect, found rear latch cable frayed closest to a microswitch found (as of 05/04/2025, it is currently held together by 2 strands of the cable). I also verified the operation between the front and rear latch of the passenger sliding door with the door panel off, and noticed it intermittently touches the microswitch when closing the door, further confirming the issue. My concern is the rear latch cable being frayed. The latches operate normal and as intended, the problem is I cannot purchase the cables separately, only as a complete unit with the latch.
During a side impact accident to the driver's side door, the SRS airbag system did not deploy the airbags. Driver ended up hitting their head and shoulder on the door frame. Police report does exist for the accident and there was no recall on this part for this vehicle but for the next model year, there was a recall for the SRS control system for a few vehicles.
Transmission failure. We had issues with acceleration and hesitation. When brought to the dealership they didn’t find anything wrong, but then the transmission ended up failing completely.
Vehicle failed to restart after auto shut off engaged at red light. I was unable to move and had to turn vehicle off completely and restart.
I was unable to utilize my cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure or any of the features that is related to the Honda sensing program. I was told by the Honda dealership that it was the camera refocusing and continue to refocus which leads for it to overheat.
Each time gas tank is filled completely, there is a strong fuel smell that lasts for a couple days. recently vehicle was parked facing down an incline after a recent fill and gasoline smell became very strong and an oily (shiny rainbow) slick noted leaking from under where the vehicle was parked. I believe this indicates that there is damage to the fuel tank near the top of the tank. I have started filling the tank 2/3 only and do not have the gas smell with that. Have had the vehicle for about 10 months and noticed the smell the first time I filled with gas, but did not suspect it was caused by a leak until recently. There is an "emissions system" error on dash. No issues with vehicle performance / operation.
ADAS System Failure. An audible alert would sound and the following problems would scroll across Dash Display: Auto High-Beam Problem; Adaptive Cruise Control Problem; Lane Keeping Assist Problem; Collision Mitigation System Problem; Road Departure Mitigation System Problem. Also, "BRAKE SYSTEM' illuminated in red near bottom of display. Diagnostic at Honda Dealer indicated, "U3000-49 Multipurpose Camera Unit Internal electronic Failure". To repair, the quote for the unit itself was $1201.34 plus tax. Calibration was an additional $660.00. I found the unit online at a better price and so purchased it and had the Dealer install. My total cost for the Unit and installation/calibration was $1.496.74. Even though it is a 2018 model I would have expected this camera unit to last much longer. It's an expensive part! My hope would be for Honda to issue an extended warranty and I'd be eligible for compensation on this repair. If needed I can provide paperwork. Please advise. Thank You.
Stalling lagging on acceleration. Leaving me stranded in the middle of road or intersection. Honda dealership says they can duplicate the issue, but there is no fix.
Honda has issued a recall for the 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles and certain Acura, Pilot, and Ridgeline vehicles due to a manufacturing error on the connecting rod bearing in the engine, which can damage the engine. Might also be in service bulletin 24-003. This recall, identified as #23V751000, was announced on November 12, 2023. MY VIN is not currently covered by this recall yet I am experiencing the exact same symptoms. I have 6 children that a transport in the vehicle daily and we are moving from Minnesota to Georgia soon. I cannot afford to pay for the repairs of this manufacturer defect out of pocket. Local Honda dealership estimates over $10,000 for this repair! I am now going to an automotive service center to see if they have a more affordable solution. It isn't looking good. I am still driving this vehicle, but the knocking coming from the engine compartment is getting louder and louder and I fear the engine could seize while driving on the road with my children in the vehicle. I also reported this to Honda Corporate on March 28, 2025.
My tailgate stopped working, I was getting messages on my dash board that there was transmission system problems, reverse warning problems, keyless entry system problems. It always seemed to happen after a rain. I found that the van is leaking water through the driver’s side roof rack gully, near the back, and water is leaking right on the tailgate control system, causing all these other problems. It is also causing the battery to drain when car is parked idle. There should be recall to fix the leakage and replace the controller. It's a design defect, water shouldn't sip inside and burn the electrical components. Costing me hundreds/thousands. This is also safety issue because water damaged controllers causing issues with ADAS components too - getting check engine, break lights, etc. while the car is in motion. If those safety features are not working, that can be very dangerous. Thanks
1/16/25 Van brought to Honda of Kenosha to complete fuel pump recall. Advised work was complete. 3/30/25 While driving, my van completely turned off. Creating an unsafe situation as I wasn’t parked but with engine running & van in drive. Van was towed to repair shop 3/3/25. When they opened on 3/31/25, I contacted them to explain what happened. Mechanic said it sounded like a fuel issue. I explained van had new pump 1/2025 per recall. Van started for the mechanic, but it wasn’t a smooth start. He drove it on & off over the next 48 business hours. It didn’t stop. I picked it up on 4/2/25 & began to drive home. Again, while driving it completely turned off. Creating an unsafe situation as I wasn’t parked but with engine running & van in drive. 4/3/25 My van was returned to the repair shop. They ran diagnostics & replaced high pressure fuel pump. But the van was still not running correctly. Despite the fuel pump recently being replaced, the mechanic tested it anyway. He learned the fuel pump was not replaced as I was advised & as it was documented.
While driving my 2018 Honda Odyssey at approximately 35-40 mph on a regular city road, the passenger-side front airbag deployed suddenly and without any impact or external trigger. The road was clear, traffic was light, and no collision occurred before, during, or after the event. The airbag deployment was abrupt and loud, startling me and posing a serious safety risk to both myself and my passenger. Immediately after pulling over, I conducted a visual inspection of the vehicle. There was no damage to the front bumper, fender, windshield, or undercarriage, and no sign of impact or obstruction. The dashboard did not display any warning lights prior to or immediately after the event. I took the vehicle to an authorized service center, where they confirmed that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were stored and no mechanical fault could be identified. Despite my efforts to escalate the issue, Honda has declined to offer any support or written findings, stating they cannot assist if there is no identifiable cause. My insurance provider, State Farm, denied the claim as well, citing the absence of a collision. As of now, I am left with an unsafe vehicle, unexpected repair costs, and no accountability from the manufacturer or insurer. This incident could have resulted in serious injury if my passenger had been present, and I am extremely concerned about the safety implications for other Honda Odyssey owners. I am submitting this report in hopes that NHTSA investigates this potential safety defect. I’m willing to provide full documentation, photographs, and service records upon request.
Failure of the tailgate module and blind spot sensor simultaneously. Electrical issues previously fixed due to water infiltration and this seems to be a recurring issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while his wife was dropping off their son at school, the sunroof was open, and the close button was depressed while the son’s hand was hanging out of the sunroof. The sunroof proceeded to close, and the sensors did not prevent the sunroof from continuously attempting to close. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that his wife was forced to push up on the sunroof to free her son's hand, and in the process received a minor cut on her right hand, while the son sustained bruising on his right hand. Medical treatment was needed for the injury. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the sunroof assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
The multipurpose camera on the windshield needs to be recalibrated and I've been told by dealerships that this is a common problem with 2018 Honda Odyssey. Unless I pay over $2000 to have the camera recalibrated, systems including the antilock brake system do not work.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH on the highway, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The vehicle failed to accelerate above 40 MPH. There was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine. The contact restarted the vehicle. The engine, steering assist, and battery warning lights became illuminated. The low engine oil message was displayed. The contact checked the oil level, and the oil was sufficient. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the long block needed to be removed and replaced. There was metal in the oil. The mechanic recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that previously, while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The engine had overheated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Hoehn Honda Carlsbad (5454 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008,) and an undisclosed repair was performed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
The car doent accelarate 2 seconds offen
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The contact discovered that there was oil leaking from underneath the vehicle and that there was a hole in the engine block. The contact researched and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,849.
Auto engine stop feature shuts off the vehicle when engaged. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop at a light or in heavy traffic, the auto engine stop feature will engage but the engine will not restart. The only way to restart the engine is to shutoff the vehicle, open and close the drivers door, then restart the car. This problem has been occurring for a few years. We have brought the vehicle to a dealer but they say nothing is wrong.
There is a recall on this engine, same year, same make and model, but not my VIN number, same problem as the recall. Honda NHTSA campaign 23V751000 On [XXX] my husband and I were driving from our home in Scottsdale, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. About one hour from Las Vegas a yellow light came on the dash. I immediately pulled off the highway and looked up what the light meant. The manual said to continue to nearest service location and add oil. I restarted the car and there was a very loud clanking sound and a warning of Emissions System Failure came on. I turned the engine off, called AAA and had the vehicle towed to AAA Las Vegas. In the late afternoon of [XXX] they advised us that the car needed a new engine. Also troubling is that Right Honda did not fully evaluate the engine, but charged $180. They relied on the AAA report and wanted to sell me a used engine, one year warranty, but could not tell me about the engine, other than mileage because it "was on a pallet." 1. Report from AAA 2. Right Honda Estimate for USED ENGINE 3, E-mail from Right Honda stating they could not tell me about the engine 4. E-mail from Right Honda stating they would not diagnose because it was too much work INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
