There are 32 owner-reported fuel system complaints for the 2017 Honda Ridgelinein NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
To Whom It May Concern: I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe to be a potential safety-related defect in my Honda vehicle, as well as an unresolved dispute with American Honda regarding responsibility for resulting damage. Recently, I was informed by my case manager at American Honda that my claim had been closed and that Honda would not cover the necessary repairs. When I requested an opportunity to escalate the matter, I was told that no escalation was available. I am seeking NHTSA’s review because the circumstances involve component failures that may affect vehicle emissions, performance, and potentially safety. The fuel injectors in my vehicle failed, this failure caused the catalytic converter to become damaged, andHonda accepted responsibility for the faulty fuel injectors. Honda has refused to cover the damage to the catalytic converter. Because the catalytic converter failure was reportedly caused by faulty fuel injectors—components for which Honda accepted responsibility—I believe the manufacturer should cover all resulting damage, regardless of warranty status. I request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: Investigate whether similar fuel injector failures are occurring in Honda vehicles. Review whether these failures are causing catalytic converter or other engine damage. Determine whether the manufacturer is appropriately addressing these failures.
All the warning lights came on. I took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. They told me that the problem was the fuel injectors. The vehicle only has 40,000 miles. They said there was a factory problem with the programming in the ECU and they are aware of the problem. They have issued an extended warranty for this. They now refuse to honor the warranty because my title is a salvage title. A salvage title has nothing to do with their faulty programming. They now want to charge me $1,300.00 to have them fix it. The vehicle is at the dealer now waiting for a remedy 12/5/2025. I think this could be dangerous if it is not repaired. The engine could stall or fail while on the road.
Honda has issues with the fuel injectors for this year vehicle. Instead of performing a recall, they pushed it off by extending the warranty. If the injectors fail, the car becomes inoperable and could result in accident. Honda needs to fix this issue now and not just issue a warranty extension
a smell of gas came into the car. fuel pump was the problem as per the dealer. could cause driver to pass out or fire
7/13/2022 Recall work completed by dealer on Fuel Injection As of 9/26/2024 milage 73294. Now dealer states fuel injection is failing again!
Well maintained 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E, being operated within owners manual defined parameters, experienced a rapid loss of engine control. Vehicle was inoperable, and required a tow truck to be delivered to a Honda Certified Service Center. Honda Certified Service Center, has found the #6 connecting rod bearing to have failed.
Emission System Warning Light came on and vehicle running a little rough. Vehicle has ~92K miles on it. Light came on about 2 months ago but after two weeks, no longer appeared. Taking to dealer tomorrow for diagnosis. Reading literature issue with fuel rail system. Known problem with Honda 3.5L engines apparently.
Unspent fuel (not exhaust) fumes entering the cabin from the front of the truck. Also noticeable from the outside when the truck is running. Fuel pump and EVAP were checked and there were no leaks. This does not happen if the "recirc" button is pushed, only when fresh air is entering the cabin through the ventilation system.
2017 Honda Rideline RTL-T with 46,464 miles on the odometer. While on a trip totaling approximately 550 miles, after travelling approximately 350 miles we stopped to refuel. The Truck after fueling was hard to start and would lose power at 35-40 mph and would not accelerate. Check Engine light was on plus Various Dash Caution lights (ABS, SRS, EPS, AWD, VSA, Hill Traction, etc) I used an ODB 2 code reader and read P0087 Fuel Rail/System Too Low. I was able to take back roads driving approximately 8 miles at 20 mph to safely arrive at closest Honda Dealership in Abilene. The service advisor there told us it could not be diagnosed that day and the service department do not stock parts. We rented a vehicle and continued our journey. If the truck broke while we were on I-20 Freeway while traffic was passing us at 80 mph, we could have easily been in a serious accident. The service advisor called 1 day later with diagnosis of failed High Pressure Fuel Pump, with replacement part not expected until 4 days later (includes 2 weekend days) when it could be installed. The truck was repaired on the estimated day and we were able to drive 350 miles back home with no other issues. Strange thing was on the dealer invoice they noted that code they retrieved was P0088 Fuel/Rail System Pressure Too High
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the windows rolled up, the contact was nauseated when he arrived at his destination. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of gasoline. The contact checked for leaks but found no signs of a leak. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the emissions control and a fuel line needed to be replaced; however the parts needed to complete the repair were on a national back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
VEHICLE DISPLACE EMISSIONS SYSTEM ISSUE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - ADVISED BY BOTH DEALERSHIP AND INSURANCE ADJUSTER THAT THIS HAS BECOME COMMON IN THE LAST THREE YEARS SINCE A CHANGE IN MANUFACTURING AND THE USE OF A DIFFERENT KIND OF PLASTIC IN THE TANK. THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE AT THE DEALER THEN SHOWED AN ENTIRE DUMPSTER FILLED WITH REPLACED FUEL TANKS. *TR
ON 2017 RIDGELINE GETTING CODE FOR FAULTING INJECTORS AND RAIL . NO LOSS IN POWER OR SHUDDERING . THIS VEHICLE IS TOO NEW FOR THIS ISSUE
EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM LIGHT CAME ON AT ABOUT 50,500 MILES. TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE ONLY THING I NOTICED BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON WAS THE RPM WOULD 'BOUNCE' SLIGHTLY WHILE AT AROUND 35 MPH AND AROUND 47MPH. IT WOULD OCCUR WHILE MAINTAINING THE SPEED OR GOING UP ANY INCLINE, BUT WOULD STOP IF I ACCELERATED AND MAINTAINED A HIGHER SPEED
EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON AT 57000 MILES AND CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF UNTIL 1-30-2020 WHEN AT 69000 MILES EVERY LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT IN TO SAFE MODE ALMOST CAUSING ANOTHER VEHICLE TO ALMOST REAREND ME. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE BAD. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM KNOWN TO HONDA SINCE THEY HAD REDESIGNED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. END RESULT: $1610.00. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IMO.
MY HONDA RIDGELINE IS KEPT OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME. WE RECENTLY HAD A SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN FOLLOWED BY TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE 20'S. WHEN I WENT TO THE GAS STATION A COUPLE DAYS AGO, I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE FLAP THAT TAKES THE PLACE OF A GAS CAP TO PUSH OPEN. IT WAS FROZEN SHUT SOLIDLY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO SIGN OF WATER ON THE OUTSIDE THE WEATHER FINALLY GOT ABOVE FREEZING TODAY AND I MANAGE TO BREAK THE ICE BEHIND THE FILLER FLAP AND GOT THE PICTURE BELOW. AT HOME THIS WAS AN INCONVENIENCE. ON A LONG ROAD TRIP IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIG PROBLEM. I PRESUME THIS ALSO MEANS THAT EVERY TIME IT RAINS I'M GETTING WATER IN THE GAS TANK. I HAD NO IDEA .
THIS VEHICLE COMES EQUIPPED WITH A CAPLESS FILL DOOR. UPON TRYING TO FILL UP WITH GAS, I FOUND MYSELF UNABLE TO INSERT THE NOZZLE FOR FILLING. AFTER FURTHER EFFORT, THE FIRST FUEL FLAP BROKE. AFTER REMOVING THE BROKEN FLAP, I FOUND THE FUEL FILL NECK FILLED ENTIRELY WITH ICE, THUS PREVENTING INWARD MOVEMENT OF THE FLAP. I WAS UNABLE TO FILL THE VEHICLE UP WITH FUEL AS A RESULT. VEHICLE IS A 2017 WITH 50,000 MILES.
"EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM" LIGHT CAME ON AROUND 60K MILES. SERVICE TECH SAID TO IGNORE IT IF IT GOES AWAY. IT DID, THEN IT CAME BACK ON REPEATEDLY OVER S SPAN OF MONTHS. EVENTUALLY, VEHICLE STARTED TO RUN POORLY, HESITATING ON ACCELERATION. HONDA SERVICE DIAGNOSED AS FUEL INJECTORS FAILING, PROBLEM REQUIRES TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF FUEL INJECTORS. WIFE'S 2017 PILOT HAS SAME PROBLEM, BROTHER'S 2017 PILOT HAD SAME PROBLEM. CONTACTED HONDA, THEY DECLINED TO STAND BEHIND EITHER, AS THE VEHICLES ARE PAST WARRANTY ON MILEAGE.
THE VEHICLE DECELERATES IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT WARNING TO LIMP MODE. ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON ON THE DASH AND THE THROTTLE PEDAL IS DEAD. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE OVER 10 MPH. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO THROTTLE UP THE VEHICLE I.E. SUCH AS MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM AN OFF RAMP. THE SITUATION WILL OCCUR IN NORMAL CITY DRIVING AS WELL. WHEN THE VEHICLE DECELERATES IT IS IMMEDIATE AND WILL NOT RECOVER. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU IMMEDIATELY BECOME A ENCUMBRANCE TO TRAFFIC FLOW AND HAVE NO MEANS OF GETTING OUT OF THE WAY. THIS IMMEDIATE DECELERATION IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT IS FRIGHTENING AS THE DRIVER. TO DATE, HONDA HAS NO ANSWER FOR THE PROBLEM. I HAVE INVESTED SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN DIAGNOSTICS AND THE SISTER TRUCK TO THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF HONDA ENGINEERS FOR A MONTH WITH NO RESOLUTION. AS WE OWN SIX OF THESE VEHICLES I HAVE PARKED THEM ALL FOR THE SAFETY OF MY COWORKERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IN MY OPINION THIS A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH NO RESOLUTION REQUIRES AND IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FORM THE OEM.
MY COMPANY OWNS SIX (6) 2017 HONDA RIDGELINES. EACH OF HTE TRUCKS HAS EXPERIENCED A FUEL RELATED ISSUE WHERE THE TRUCK STOPS IN TRAFFIC UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. ALL DASH LIGHTS AND WARNINGS ILLUMINATE AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT TAKE FUEL WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED. TO DATE, HONDA HAS ONLY ACKNOWLEDGED MY COMPLAINT WITH NO RESOLUTION
TRUCK RAPIDLY DECELERATES AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND WILL NOT TAKE FUEL WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED.ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ILLUMINATE AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE
