My vehicle a 2019 Honda Ridgeline has an identified issue with the torque converter from the dealership. American Honda has a Service Bulletin 23-078 (listed below) that covers the exact same issue but my VIn falls short of being included in this identified and known issue. MULTIPLE Honda Ridgeline owners 2017-2019 with the 6AT have had these same issues. Service Bulletin 23-078 August 31, 2023 Version 1 Warranty Extension: 2017–19 Multi-Model 6AT Torque Converter - DTC P0741 Stored AFFECTED VEHICLES Year Model Trim VIN Range 2017–18 Pilot ALL w/ 6AT Check iN VIN status for eligibility 2017–19 Ridgeline BACKGROUND Torque converters may not have been manufactured to proper specifications. As a result, the torque converter lock-up clutch cannot provide adequate holding force due to pressure bleeding down through a crack in the lock-up piston. The reduced lock-up clutch capacity results in DTC P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck OFF. American Honda is extending the warranty on the torque converter to 8 years or 150,000 miles from the original date of purchase, whichever comes first. CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign. Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible. CORRECTIVE ACTION Confirm the vehicle has DTC P0741 stored and replace the torque converter.
While driving on the highway, the BLIND SPOT INFO SYSTEM PROBLEM and TRANSMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM came on. Vehicle was driving normal but I notice all the BSI alert, Rear Camera stopped working. I drove the vehicle to Autozone. I had them.pull the DTC code which was P0741. While reading the ODB, the dashboard lit up, I clouding brake failure, the PRND came on. Once I got home, 49 miles later, I turned off the vehicle and when I restarted the DTC was gone. The vehicle currently has 132208. The DTC came on at about 132159.

Bad fuel injectors.
In research to an upcoming service repair on 5/24/24, I experienced the service advisor knowing very quickly about the symptoms I told him. Made me inquire a google search about the tork converter in my transmission. To my dismay, numerous complaints were visible along with a class action suit actively being pursued for same issue. I realized the cost to Honda, but I feel some type of pressure needs applied for a recall since my cost was going to be around $800-$900. American Honda Motors gave me the typical speech, as to not show any prejudice toward the issue.
While driving on the Interstate, the sunroof "exploded" over my head. Thankfully, I had the shade closed or I would have been injured by flying glass and likely would have crashed. There were no vehicles ahead of me to throw up road debris that might break the glass. There is apparently a class action lawsuit that was filed for similar incidents: U.S. District Court for the Central District of California: Tappana, et al., vs. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. I retained the broken glass.
i was driving abut 25 miles per hour on [XXX] . i split second my car start shake and rapidly stop . All electronic messages were displayed . My all safety fixtures stop working included air bags. I almost hit other car . Other cars start honk on me . i was able to move slowly to dealer about 5 miles per hour . distance was only half of mile . After diagnostic i was inform my crankshaft is bad . i received bill for 3832.57 $. i contacted Honda with concern about this safety problem specially i learned from dealer mechanic there is ongoing problem with this engine on Pilots Ridgelines and Odysseys models . Honda opened case Case #: [XXX]. i had safety concerns specially i was towing boat few days before. On highway speeds this could have catastrophic consequences for me my family and other people. i offered Honda old parts for investigation and determination of root cost of this problem. Honda wasn't interested this at all. They was interested how many times i serviced vehicle in this dealer . Honda knew about this ongoing problem . What I'm looking for is safety recall on this dangers issue and reimbursement for my expects. Thank You INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V867000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and the dealer stated that once the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall, the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
At approximately 50,000 miles I began experiencing a “judder” from my transmission mostly while driving uphill. I researched the issue and discovered that a significant number of ridgeline transmissions (2017-2019) are experiencing the same issue. It is a problem with the torque converter. The dealer was aware of the issue and charged me over $400 to triple flush the transmission(even though I have a dealer extended warranty). It is possible for the torque converter to fail causing transmission failure. It is now recommended to flush the transmission frequently(more than manufacturer service recommended intervals) to hopefully keep the transmission from failing.
There was a following problem. The car began to turn on the ignition itself. It does not matter if the keys are inside the car or far away from it. This leads to a complete discharge of the battery. May trigger an alarm if the car is closed. Flashing malfunction indicators. A couple of times it was difficult to turn off the car. After pressing the start button to stop the engine, the engine continued to run. After repeating the attempts several times (4-5), the engine stopped. Also had trouble starting the car several times. The starter worked but the car would not start. Disconnecting the battery and connecting it again solved the problem and the car started. The car was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that Keyless access control unit is failing. After replacing the unit and at the moment the car is working as it should.
My 2019 Honda Ridgeline had very noticeable torque converter judder with milage in the 40k. I do not tow other than an occasional utility trailer, loaded lightly. Additionally, the vehicle was always operated in normal conditions. There were never any warning vehicle codes or any other Honda notices on potential problem. On 7/14/2023, I took it to a Honda dealer who verified condition in writing on invoice and serviced the vehicle in accordance with Honda Service Bulletins 17-025 and 17-026 which resulted from similar complaints and class action from 2017 Honda Ridgelines. After researching online, I noticed many 2018 and 2019 ridgeline owners were complaining about the same issue of premature transmission torque converter problems in various forums. This premature defective transmission issue did not go unnoticed by Honda as they changed to a different transmission for 2020 models. I believe that Honda and this issue should be investigated so as to hold Honda responsible for appropriate corrective action to include warranty extension of the 5 year / 60000 miles. I am uploading Invoice which documents issue and payment. Document says RPM surges 1000 to 2000, which should have read 100 to 200 RPMs.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Driver side Side View Mirror - No, I had to have it replaced and did not get it back. Please see recalls related to this issue for years 2020 thru 2021 for Honda Pilots, Passports, Ridgelines, and Odysseys. To me it seems they need to go back one more year. Same problem/issue as reported in these recalls. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The mirror (glass part, not the whole frame) was vibrating substantially when driving. Mabe it very difficult to have a clear view out that mirror. Difficult to see here other vehicles where in that mirror. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, dealer saw problem and agreed it was a problem. They replaced it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not that I am aware of. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and shuddered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the catalytic converter; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I have been to my Honda dealership four times for transmission issues and on the fourth trip to the dealer they were finally able to confirm the problem. My 2019 Ridgeline will kick/buck at about 27 miles per hour and will not shift into higher gears as I gain speed. When this occurs, my engine will operate at 4,000 RPM on the highway. There warning lamps when the transmission starts acting up. The some or all of the lamps will stay on for on or several days at a time and these include: Emission Systems Problem, Transmission Systems Problem and Blind Spot Info System Problem. My safety is at risk due to the fact the transmission does not shift and bucks and I cannot potentially accelerate in a normal manner which could lead to an accident. They have diagnosed the problem based on a computer code from the car to the service department. They say the part is on backorder and they do not know when it will be available. Could be up to six months. I have looked on the internet and have found many Ridgeline owners complaining of the same issue for the 2017-2019 model years. When I brought the car in for service the first two times I was under extended warranty and now they say I may not be covered because they could not detect it. I guess mechanics now rely on computers and do not accept the work of the owner as to the problems being experienced. The problem is the Pressure Control Valve Code # P0776
Complaint of a chirp noise heard inside cabin or coming from the engine compartment. Sometimes it is heard very well, sometimes weakly. What influences this is not clear. The car was delivered to the dealer. After diagnostics, it was diagnosed that noise coming from high pressure fuel pump and rear engine mount.
A failure with the "keyless entry/TPMS control unit" caused my alarm to go off randomly. Alarm would go off at random times, draining the battery & leaving the truck unable to be started. Also, while going off, the truck could not be used/controlled/started. Honda replaced the defective part, at my cost, without a manufacturer discount. This happened randomly from when the vehicle was about 2-3 years old, then reappeared at around 4-5 years. Honda knows about this problem and issues a TSB for it, TSB 21-055.
Driving on the Interstate on 4/09/23 my 2019 Honda Ridgeline hood began to vibrate badly. I slowed and pulled over on the shoulder. The hood was barely still connected but had an open gap. I opened and slammed the hood and continued home at a slower speed, (approx. 62 MPH). I had taken the Ridgeline in on Feb. 16, 2022 at the Honda dealer as per Honda's safety recall concerning the Hood Latch Striker Recall. This complaint is that they obviously did not or were not able to fix the problem. I have another appointment at the local dealer in Alcoa, TN. But I worry they may not be able to fix it?
This issue has been experienced by 100's of folks as found researching the issue on the internet. NHTSA has logged many of these including 11240893, 11302469, 11397199, 11438476, 11461046, 11488489, 141547651, 11523078, 11522464, 11518015, 11515091. You have a recall notice, 10197651 and Honda SB is 21-055. Issue: alarm goes off intermittently when the door is locked. dash electrical system and display clicks and flickers after the car is turned off alarm most recently would not shut off, and I could not unlock the vehicle with either key FOB. I had to use the manual entry and start and stop the car. This vehicle alarm has also gone off on its own when the car is unlocked sitting in my garage The back tailgate will not lock now, even if the other doors do unlock The dealer has had my car for 3 days and said that Honda isn't paying for this repair unless it is within the warranty. My car is only 41,000 miles. I have talked to Honda corporate and they said they will not pay for it.
Vehicle emits a popping sound several minutes after startup and several minutes after shutdown. It appears the carbon/vapor canister or fuel tank is not properly allowing the pressure to properly disparate. Been happening since new; dealer says they are not aware of it being a known issue. I’m concerned this may cause a premature failure with the system and/or cause future, unnecessary repair costs or other issues.
Engine light flashing on highway with reduced power
The 2019 Honda Ridgeline truck was driving at 70MPH for one hour at 25F temperature. After exiting the ramp, the Check Engine Light started flashing, lost power and the engine was running very rough and cannot drive more than 35MPH. Stopped on the side of the road, turned the engine off and then back on and the truck was driveable again. Had this truck for 4 years now and had this problem once or twice every winter.
2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ISSUES WITH THE TAILGATE.
vehicle constantly gets a p219A fault code (air fuel ratio out of balance) there is currently a recall for 2019 ridgeline for same problem but only applies to specific vin, had the fuel pump replaced recently under a recall due to impeller releasing debree into fuel system. now injectors are clogged causing the same problem as listed in current recall, however honda claims it only affect certian vinn, recall should be broaden, to cover all vinn that hs the exact fault.
When the tailgate of the Ridgeline is open like a door it slams shut hitting the person loading something into the bed in the back. The hinge isn’t strong enough to hold the door open. The truck has to be parked on perfectly level ground to keep this from happening. Honda has been made aware of this problem.
Truck was parked for 5+ minutes in same stationary spot as it has been parked many time before in similar conditions and environment. Passenger front Door to vehicle was closed and truck somehow slipped a gear and brake and rolled away as shown in the video that recorded on my ring doorbell.
2019 HONDA RIDGELINE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD SOFT/SPONGY BRAKES AND TO CORRECT THE SAFETY CONCERN THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER BOTH WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED, SO THE CONSUMER SOLD THE VEHICLE ON 07/27/22.
Corroded wire harness to the rear differential. It has been confirmed by the dealer. All wheel drive problem appeared on the dash. Rear differential oil pump is also being replaced
Multiple occasions of vehicle lurching, jerky acceleration, and horrible noises when shifting gears at low speeds at 40,000-50,000 miles. Brought to Honda twice. They could not replicate the problem. It was unpredictable when this occur. Vehicle was returned at a huge loss of depreciation value in a short time for customer, who felt too scared to drive it anymore.
Honda dealership told me to bring my vehicle in for NHTSA 22V867. They checked parts department and told me they had ample parts in supply. At the dealership I was told the wiring harness was inspected by them and was fine and would not be replaced. I was provided an invoice that stated “recall performed”. The service manager explained they do what Honda tells them, not what the NHTSA says. I inquired directly to Honda and they verified they do not do what the NHTSA says, only what Honda says. I would like the wiring harness replaced per the recall, per the ample supply Honda told me they have. The dealership verified twice to me they have an ample supply.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V867000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Back up camera no longer works due to frayed wiring.
Manufacturer is refusing to complete recall #KCK. Dealer inspected vehicle and says backup camera works so Honda is telling them to do nothing. This was 5 months ago. Unable to get recall removed from my VIN.
Unknown component - on two occasions, the truck's windows were all rolled down and the sunroof was opened - all on their own while the vehicle was parked. Safety issue - should this reoccur during a rainstorm, it will flood the truck. Issue has not been confirmed by dealer or others. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer or others. No symptoms prior to the initial event.
Image from rearview camera no longer appears in instrument panel center screen when reverse is selected. It can be clearly seen that the wires connecting the camera are severed where the tailgate hinges on the body.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, the back-up camera was inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
Backup camera no longer functions. I inspected cable harness and wires have broken. Honda dealer will not do anything.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while his wife was driving through a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated upon the depression of the brake pedal without warning. Due to the failure, the contact's wife hit a brick column which resulted in a chip. The air bags deployed upon impact. The contact's wife suffered bruises around her waist and right thumb. The contact's wife did not seek medical treatment due to her injuries. A police report was not filed. The contact was called to the scene and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was repaired. Prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the brakes were soft upon depression without any warning. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was 23,706.
The wire to the backup camera were cut by the wear and tear from the opening of the tailgate.
At 45k miles the transmission is surging at low speed. according to several honda forums, this is a very common problem cause by a bad torque converter. Mine is going to the dealership for repair Friday (I first have to pay $200 for transmission fluid flush/replacement) Even the guy at the dealerships new it was an issue (told me: "probably torque converter, seeing a lot of those"). vehicle is in great shape otherwise and has been babied the whole time. he says torque converter is covered only up to 60k miles. this needs to be a recall!
Four months after warranty expiration, the back up camera began malfunctioning - either not working at all (black screen when in reverse) or camera image stuck on "fish eye". The wiring harness between body and tailgate is clearly frayed, with copper wires showing some as severed and some as lacking insulation. Worried about backing up into/over pedestrian or bicycle.
Transmission starts to surge during light acceleration between 35 and 45mph
Rear Back-up camera cuts in and out. Upon inspection I could see Rear Tailgate wiring harness at tailgate hinge area is damaged( broken wires) . This is known issue with 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline that the NHTSA is currently investigating.
