Approximately six(6) months ago, my wife and I noticed a very noxious gasoline smell in the cabin of our truck, and upon further investigation determined that the smell was a direct result of gasoline that had infiltrated the oil in the engine. The oil was changed and the used oil smelled very strongly of gasoline. I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Industries to get the oil analyzed, and they, in fact found gasoline in the oil. Honda said that the results were useless because they wouldn't accept third party results. I took my truck to the local Honda dealership (Napleton Honda in Loves Park, IL) to address the problem. They, in turn contracted the Technician Department of American Honda who said the strong gasoline smell was "NORMAL." I have contacted American Honda and they suggested getting a second opinion. The case number is, XXX. At this point a second opinion at another dealership would be useless because they're going to tell me the exact same thing. So, in conclusion, I would like the noxious, dangerous gasoline fume root cause to be identified and repaired. The fumes are making me, my wife, and any passengers nauseous. Engine knock noticed right after oil change, prominent metal on metal sound under load, it’s more pronounced and easier to hear at low speeds. The vehicle only has 34,000 miles and 2 years old. Took to Honda Dealership in Staunton VA(Valley CMA Honda) and they are still diagnosing(for 4 weeks now) but told me so far that it’s coming from the location where oil pan is and main bearing. So it’s very likely a serious engine issue. Very disappointing and frustrating situation that vehicle is only 2 years old with 34,000 miles and already having a serious engine issue.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,117.
I have had toxic fuel/engine smells in the cabin from the engine compartment. There are multiple complaints when searching Honda gas cabin smell online. Located the source is the Pcv vent hose on top of the engine. Honda needs to replace this hose with an odor barrier hose that doesn’t allow the fumes to be brought into the cabin via the fresh air intake.
Three times we have been driving the vehicle on a steep grade when the vehicle lurches forward in a short accelerated sortie.
The auto start/stop feature has a delay before restarting the engine after full stop in traffic. This delay is dangerous. If you don't anticipate the slight delay before pressing gas pedal to move through traffic your timing is slightly impaired by this delay. All Honda vehicles seem to be experiencing this delay and are reporting and complaining about it.
Loss of motive power. Temperature 35 f. Exited interstate after 2 hours of 70 mph. Upon exit, check engine light began flashing and power was diminished severely. After shutting vehicle down and letting it cool, it was normal. Dealer was unable to replicate the problem. Dealer says that it is an issue known to Honda, caused by condensation in the intake manifold in cold weather. Dealer says that Honda has been unable to solve. This could be very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the 4WD system became inoperable. The contact stated that the antifreeze was not suitable for the area he lived. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the dealer, who stated that the antifreeze would thicken below 35 degrees. The contact was informed that the engine would not produce enough power to move thicker coolant throughout the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned about being stranded. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,400.
Car lost power and check engine light came on when exiting the highway on an off ramp.
After driving on an interstate or four lane road for a while (cold weather) when I pull off an exit and start to accelerate the truck has no power and the check engine light is on. The dealer tells me that the engine goes into a safety mode so that it is not doing any damage to the engine. I have to safely pull over and shut truck off and it must reset computer. My problem is you do not know there is no power until you pull out on the road that may have 55 mph traffic coming and there is no power to accelerate. I have had this happen four- five times and had in for repairs three time hoping truck is fixed. Dealer says they have adjusted something. First happen 2/2023 after having truck for a few weeks.
