TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND DROVE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,257.
THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM CHECK VALVE SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN VASTLY REDUCED BRAKING POWER AND NEAR INABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LET THE CAR SLOW NATURALLY AND TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD. IF I HAD BEEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. WHEN INSPECTED THE VACUUM LINE WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM THE VALVE RESULTING IN NO POWER FROM THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE HAD NEVER BEEN SERVICED.
WHILE MAKING A TURN ONTO A BYPASS, VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD FASTER THAN SPEED APPLIED AND THEN RESUMED NORMAL. HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENLY WHILE DRIVING 30 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR OTHER TIMES. DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,037.
MY DAUGHTER WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK. THE EPS (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) LIGHT AND THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. INDICATING THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. SHE PULLED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD IN A PANIC AND CALLED ME. I TOLD HER TO GET THE CAR TO AN AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCED AUTO AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE FLUID AND THAT IN THE INTERIM THE STEERING MAY GET VERY HARD AND TO BE CAREFUL. SHE GOT IT TO ADVANCE AUTO AND WAS INFORMED THERE IS NO FLUID BECAUSE IT IS ELECTRONIC AND SHE NEEDED TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (GETTEL HYUNDAI IN SARASOTA) AND WAS TOLD THE COUPLER WAS OUT BUT THAT THE CAR WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE LIGHTS WOULD JUST STAY ON OR I COULD PAY $1500 TO HAVE A NEW STEERING COLUMN INSTALLED. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE AS I WAS DRIVING IT THERE AND I WAS HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL SO TIGHT MY FOREARMS WERE SORE BY THE TIME I GOT IT THERE. I AM STILL UNDER THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY (BUT NOT THE MILEAGE). I IMMEDIATELY CHECK FOR RECALLS ON NHTSA AND DISCOVER THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING. BY THIS TIME THE DEALER WAS CLOSED. CONTACTED THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING (TODAY) AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE DEFECTIVE STEERING! THIS IS NOT SOME SORT OF COSMETIC PROBLEM!! HOW CAN A CAR BE SAFE TO DRIVE WITH DEFECTIVE STEERING? WHY ARE THEY NOT HONORING THE RECALL? WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND WE TRAVERSE WINDY ROADS...IF THE STEERING DOES ACTUALLY GO OUT IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLY A FATALITY! IN THE MEAN TIME MY CAR SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK OR FOR ANY EMERGENCY THAT SHOULD OCCUR!!! *TR

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE WAS A KNOCKING SOUND AND A SLIGHT HESITATION WAS FELT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EPS SYSTEM WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND UPDATED. THE STEERING COUPLING WAS ALSO FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V100000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
THE RIMS ON MY 5 YEAR OLD CAR LOOK LIKE IT WAS PARKED IN THE OCEAN THEY ARE RUSTING SO BAD AND THIS CAR HAS NEVER LIVED NORTH OF CAROLINA. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS DEFECT IS GOING TO CAUSE MY WHEEL TO FALL OFF ONE DAY. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED POPPING OR CATCHING WHENEVER I TRY TO TURN THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT, BUT DEALERSHIP TELLS ME IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, SO IT WILL COST $110 JUST TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. THE DRIVER?S SIDE WINDOW IS VERY HARD GOING UP OR DOWN (MAKES A LOAD THUD WHEN IT GETS TO THE TOP OR BOTTOM) AND I AM AFRAID IT IS GOING TO BREAK THE GLASS ONE OF THESE DAYS. THE DASHBOARD IS MUCH DISCOLORED (THAT STARTED AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR). THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE THE METAL WRAPPING PEELING OFF CAUSING ME TO CUT MY HAND WHEN I GO TO OPEN THE DOOR. I FEAR THAT MY CAR IS A ?LEMON? AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AS THIS IS MY SECOND HYUNDAI (BOUGHT THEM BOTH BRAND NEW) AND THIS ONE IS A PIECE OF JUNK ? BUT THE DEALERSHIP WON'T HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 13 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE VEHICLE CROSSED OPPOSITE LANES AND CRASHED THROUGH A GATE AND INTO A HOUSE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED LONG AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS MOMENTARILY AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 15V1000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REQUESTED INFORMATION TO INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WE NOTICED THE RED EPS LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. AT FIRST WE DIDNT NOTICE ANYTHING THEN WE MADE A LANE CHANGE AND FOUND THE STEERING WAS VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. WHEN WE PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY THAT IS WHEN IT WAS FOUND THAT THE STEERING HAD DEFINITELY GONE. IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO TURN THAT WHEEL AROUND A CORNER AND PARK IT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND HOPEFULLY IT SHOULD PROMPT A HYUNDAI RECALL. *TR
NO MATTER MOVING OR STOPPED THE STEERING HAS A KNOCK OR CLICK. TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER, THE MECHANIC SAID THE ALIGNMENT IS CORRECT. ALL THE FRONT SUSPENSION IS TIGHT. THE SOUND IS FROM THE INTERNAL POWER ASSIST ELECTRIC MOTOR AND THIS IS NORMAL!! I QUESTION THIS BECAUSE IT NEVER DID THIS BEFORE. *JS
MATERIAL USED IN THE GLS VARIANT'S STEERING WHEEL HAS DEGRADED TO THE POINT THAT THE RUBBER PIECES ARE CRUMBLING IN THE HANDS OF THE DRIVER. THE STEERING WHEEL MATERIAL HAS CRACKED AND DISINTEGRATED. DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CARS WITH EXCESS OF 14 YEARS OF USE THAT THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY HEARD A LOUD BANG, AND WAS COVERED IN SHATTERED GLASS AS THE SUNROOF EXPLODED FOR NO REASON. *TR
THIS IS A SECOND ISSUE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME WAS DECEMBER 29,2014 WENT OUT STARTED THE CAR NO POWER STEERING HAD JUST DROVE THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE OVER HUNDRED MILES SEEMED FINE WELL THE NEXT MORNING THE PROBLEM AROSE WIFE WENT TO GO TO WORK NO POWER STEERING SHE TOOK MY VEHICLE I MISSED WORK TO TAKE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THAT AFTERNOON THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. FAST FORWARD TO MARCH 22,2015 A SUNDAY MORNING GOT INTO THE CAR STARTED IT UP AN NO POWER STEERING SHUT IT OFF RESTARTED IT RAN FINE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP UP THE NEXT MORNING GOT AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED OVER. AGAIN THE SAME ISSUE THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THESE ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED. WE HAVE SEEN THE ARTICLE IN THE PAPER ON THE RECALL BUT AT THIS DATE HYUNDAI HAS NOT NOTIFIED OWNERS OF THE RECALL SO I GUESS WE WAIT AND HOPE WE DO NOT CRASH THE CAR IN THE MEAN TIME. IAM ALSO THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR AND WONDER IF THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE IN THE PAST. *TR
THE PLASTIC CHROME ON THE INSIDE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE IS "DELAMINATED" AND A RAZOR SHARP EDGE IS EXPOSED. WHEN I REACHED ACROSS THE SEAT (FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE) TO OPEN TO PASSENGER DOOR, THE SHARP EDGE DEEPLY CUT MY FINGER WHICH HAD TO HAVE PRESSURE FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS BEFORE IT WOULD STOP BLEEDING. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 27K MILES AND RARELY SEES SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SO THIS IS NOT DUE TO EXTENSIVE USE AS STATED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. IF THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AND RECALLED IN 2009 THEN WHY IS IT STILL A PROBLEM IN 2014? THIS CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND A NON-RELATED WARRANTY FIX LAST MONTH AND NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT THIS PROBLEM (AND SUBSEQUENTLY, THE DEALER WAS NOT INSPECTING FOR THIS PROBLEM). *TR
THE CHROME COVERED INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE CRACKED AND THE JAGGED METAL EDGE CUT MY PASSENGER'S HAND. MY PASSENGER PULLED THE HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, THE HANDLE CRACKED, AND THE METAL CUT HIS HAND. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SIMILAR (PERHAPS IDENTICAL) TO THAT IDENTIFIED IN THE 2002-3 SONATA WHICH PROMPTED A RECALL, BUT I COULD NOT FIND A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES - THE POWER STEERING STOPS AND THE EPS LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATES. LUCKILY I WAS ALWAYS CLOSE TO HOME AND NO ONE WAS HURT. IT HAPPENS UNDER ALL KINDS OF CONDITIONS, GOING UPHILL / DOWNHILL / 50MPH OR 5MPH / TURNING / DRIVING STRAIGHT - THERE IS NOT A SINGLE 'ROAD CONDITION' OR 'DRIVING CONDITION' THAT CONSISTENTLY TRIGGERS THE FAILURE. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO HYUNDAI IN CONNECTION WITH LAST YEAR'S 'STOP LAMP SWITCH' RECALL. I HAD HOPED THE PROBLEMS WERE RELATED - THEY ARE NOT. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES (RUDE AND UNHELPFUL IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT). I HAVE HAD THE 'STOP LAMP SWITCH' REPLACED AS PART OF THE RECALL, AND ALSO THE 'AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING' REPLACED (WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR), AND THE STEERING 'RE-CALIBRATED'. SINCE THESE REPAIRS THE EPS HAS FAILED ON A FEW SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC TWICE MORE, AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THE EPS IS JUST SHUTTING DOWN. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL DESIGN FLAW. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND HOW TO SOLVE IT. BY NOW HYUNDAI HAS TO KNOW THIS WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. *TR

I HAD DRIVEN AROUND 2 MILES WITHOUT ANY ISSUE AND WAS WAITING ON RED TRAFFIC LIGHT BEFORE ENTERING MY APARTMENT COMMUNITY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I NOTICED THAT EPS INDICATOR HAS TURNED ON AND STEERING WHEEL IS JAMMED. THANKFULLY THE ROAD AHEAD WAS STRAIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR SAFELY OVER THE CURB WITH EXTREME DIFFICULTY. I TRIED THE SEQUENCE OF COMPLETE STOP AND START MULTIPLE TIMES BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THIS IS UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE FAILURE WHICH HAS DEFINITE POTENTIAL OF RESULTING INTO ACCIDENT. *TR
ENGINE TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. I NOTICE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT SILENT WITHOUT EVEN THE TYPICAL ENGINE VIBRATIONS. THE CHECK ENGINE AS WELL AS OTHER NOTIFICATIONS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. I CANNOT SAY EXACTLY WHICH ONES BECAUSE I WAS TOO FOCUSED ON GETTING MY CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THAT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM (OR AT LEAST THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED.) THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY SCARY PROBLEM AND I AM THANKFUL IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS AT A STOP AND WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. I PLAN TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER AS IT WAS JUST THERE (3 DAYS AGO) FOR A 30K MAINTENANCE, RECALL FIX, AND HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT. *TR
EPS LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPEN ABOUT FOUR TIMES AND I ABLE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTART AND DRIVE. THE LAST TIME I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPEN AGAIN. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR. FIRST TIME AT THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A COMPUTER UP-GRADE FOR $98. ONE WEEK LATER IT HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS TIME THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THE STEERING COLUMN NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A SENOR FOR $2,500 PLUS. WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THIS? I SEE ON THE INTERNET I'M NOT THE FIRST. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RE-CALL IF THIS SUCH AN ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN CRASH OR SOMEONE GETTING KILLED. IT CAN BE A GOOD THING IF I LOSE STEERING ON A HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF A RUSH-HOUR? *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT WHEN I WAS MAKING A TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE AND THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON. I STRUGGLED TO PARK THE CAR AND AFTER MY DR. APPOINTMENT CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE DROVE THE CAR TO BRANDON HYUNDAI WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR THEY TOOK THE CAR IN AND WE GOT A RENTAL CAR. THEY REPLACED COLUMN & SHAFT ASSY-STEERIN 56310-2H250 AND BOLT-SAFETY LOCK 81919-31000 QTY 2 WORK ORDER SAYS FOUND STEERING COLUMN SHORTED OUT REPLACE MODULE, TEST OK 731SZ RECALL 110-31C017R0 - STOP LAMP SWITCH REPL INSTALLED 93810-4DR0A-QQH SWITCH ASSY-BRAKE PEDAL QTY 1 THEN THERE WAS ANOTHER TIME ON DECEMBER 26, 2014 MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN FROM A TWO LANE ROAD ONTO A TWO LANE ROAD WHERE CARS WHERE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AND THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON AND SHE HIT 2 CARS THAT WERE AT THE LIGHT. MY CAR HAD $6002.36 IN DAMAGE ON IT. THE UNIBODY ON THE CAR HAD TO BE PULLED AND SQUARED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO DONE. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT BUT WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN ONLY WORSE. WHEN IT WAS ONLY A LITTLE OVER FOUR (4) MONTHS SINCE IT WAS FIXED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. EARLIER THIS SUMMER MY FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW, DRIVER CONTROL WOULD ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN BUT NOT UP, THEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW IT IS VERY PUZZLING HOW THE DRIVER CONTROL WILL LOWER THE INVOLVED WINDOWS, BUT ITS AS IF THE DRIVER CONTROLS ARE DEAD WHEN TRYING TO ROLL UP??? A FAILING TRANSMISSION IN A LOW MILEAGE CAR IS AN ISSUE. AT JUST OVER 51,000 MILES MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN JERKING INTO GEAR BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD. AFTER HAVING IT DIAGNOSED I WAS TOLD THEY WERE ABLE TO "SORT-OF FEEL WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT" AND INITIALLY RECOMMENDED A FLUID CHANGE. WHEN I ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT, SUDDENLY I WAS TOLD IT WAS IN INTERNAL FAILURE AND I NEEDED THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THAT EVENING THE SLIPPING GOT WORSE AND THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED GOING INTO REVERSE AND HAD A BIG PROBLEM SHIFTING UP HILLS. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY BREAK INS SINCE 2014. I GOT THIS CAR 02/2014 AND SINCE 07/2014 THERE HAVE MULTIPLE BREAK INS INTO THIS VEHICLE. CONFIRMED BY LAKELAND HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN 2016. THIS DEALERSHIP AGREED TO TAKE THE CAR FOR A DAY TO DO A THOROUGH INSPECTION TO SEARCH FOR ANYTHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE ON THE VEHICLE IF I AGREED TO PAY A FEE. I WAS ADVISED BY THIS DEALERSHIP TO TAKE IT BACK TO HOLLER HYUNDAI IN MAITLAND OR WINTER PARK, FL AND SEE IF THEY WOULD AGREE TO DO THE INSPECTION HERE WITHOUT CHARGE EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE OUT OF WARRANTY. HOLLER HYUNDAI DOES NOT HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO DO THE INSPECTION, ONLY FEW SELECTIVE STORES IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA HAVE THIS EQUIPMENT. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO HOLLER HYUNDAI SINCE EARLY 2015, AND THEY NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTOR FINANCE AT 800-633-5151 AND ALL THEY DID WAS TAKE INFORMATION DOWN ON PAPER BUT NOTHING BEYOND WAS RESOLVED. BECAUSE OF THE BREAK INS, THIS HAS AFFECTED OUR RADIO RECEPTION WHILE PARKED SITTING INSIDE THE CAR OR IN MOTION EVEN WHEN MOST OF THE TIME RECEPTION SHOULD BE CLEAR NOT CLOUDY. ELECTRICAL WIRES SEEM TO CAUSE SKIPPING, AND HOW THE CAR FUNCTIONS WHEN IN MOTION. JUST TWO DAYS, I DISCOVERED A BLACK JACKET WAS TAKEN FROM THE CAR. OTHER ITEMS MISSING FROM THE VEHICLE SINCE THEN WAS: A VERY EXPENSIVE BURGANDY HANDHELD BLOW DRYER; CLOTHES; AND OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS THAT WERE HIDDEN INSIDE THE VEHICLE WERE STOLEN. I HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET WITH HOLLER HYUNDAI AND THE CAR SINCE ALL OF THIS, AND FEEL I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THIS INSPECTION. I'M NOT INVOLVED IN ANY FORM OF ILLEGAL ACTIVITY NEITHER MY DAUGHTER. WE ARE THE ONLY TWO WITH KEYS TO THIS CAR AND WE DRIVE TOGETHER IN THE CAR 95% IF NOT 100% OF THE TIME.

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
THE METALLIC COVERING ON BOTH FRONT INNER DOOR HANDLES HAS RIPPLED AND STARTED PEELING. THE METALLIC SHEET COVERING BOTH HANDLES IS VERY SHARP AND HAS CAUSED ME TO SLICE MY HANDS/FINGERS MULTIPLE TIMES AS I ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE DOOR. IT'S STURDY ENOUGH THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO JUST PEEL OFF, SO I AM CONSTANTLY BEING CUT BY MY HANDLES AND AM WORRIED THIS MAY SOON HAPPEN TO MY PASSENGER(S) AND/OR CHILDREN. *TR
I STARTED MY CAR AND THE EPS AND ESC OFF LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED, AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAD HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE USED IN 2011. THE FIRST TIME, SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING FIXED THE PROBLEM. I ALSO TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AT THE TIME, AND THEY CLAIMED THAT THE FIX WAS AN UPDATE TO THE COMPUTER. THE ISSUE DIDN'T APPEAR AGAIN UNTIL MAY 2014, AND THIS TIME THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK EVEN AFTER MULTIPLE RESTARTS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE STEERING COLUMN HAS FAILED AN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND WILL COST $2100. NOT ONLY DOES THIS DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN THAT I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE CITATIONS OF IN THIS DATABASE PRESENT A POTENTIALLY LARGE EXPENSE TO HYUNDAI OWNERS OUTSIDE OF THEIR WARRANTY, BUT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE STEERING FAILS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION, AS I HAVE SEEN IN OTHER CASES. I WAS LUCKY IT WAS JUST IN MY DRIVEWAY. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI DIRECTLY ABOUT THIS, AND THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS, AND MOST CERTAINLY WOULDN'T COVER IT AS A DEFECTIVE PART, AS I AM 12K MILES OUT OF MY WARRANTY. THEY ARE CLEARLY IGNORING THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY CONCERNS OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. BUYER BEWARE. *TR
I BOUGHT 4 MICHELIN TIRES ON 11/02/2012. A 90,000 MILE TIRE. < 40,000 MILES 2 OF THE 4 TIRES HAVE UNEXPLAINED WEARING AND 1 TIRE HAS A BUBBLE. MICHELIN DEFENDER XT 195/65R15 (GREEN X)90,000 MILE WEAR. THE CAR AND TIRES ARE SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. *TR
I TOOK MY 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IN BECAUSE THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL. AT THAT TIME THEY INSPECTED IT AND ALSO REPLACED THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FROM A PREVIOUS RECALL. THE POWER STEERING HAD GONE OUT ONCE PRIOR BUT RESOLVED ITSELF AND I HAD NOT BROUGHT IT IN. WHEN I DID BRING IT IN ON 5/ 14/14 THERE WAS NO SERVICE PERFORMED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN ON 6/2/14 BECAUSE AGAIN THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. MY CAR WAS ONLY 8,000 MILES OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY AND IN SPITE OF RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WAS QUITE COSTLY. THIS IS NOT A WEAR-AND-TEAR ISSUE IT IS A PRODUCT DEFECT. AS EVIDENCED BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS USING THE SAME PART/TECHNOLOGY AND ISSUING RECALLS. I WAS APPROACHING HIGHWAY FROM CITY ROADS AND I HAD TO ACCELERATE TO GET IN THE FLOW. SUDDENLY, I FELT THAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS ACCELERATING, CAR DID NOT GAIN SPEED. I CHECKED RPMS AND IT WAS QUITE HIGH FOR THE SPEED THAT CAR WAS MOVING. IT LOOKED TO ME AS IF CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL GEAR BUT IT WAS NOT. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT MY CAR BECAUSE THE DRIVER WAS EXPECTING MY CAR TO MOVE FASTER. I HAD TO STOP ON SHOULDER TO CHECK WHAT IS HAPPENING. I HAD THIS KIND OF EXPERIENCE BEFORE TOO BUT NOT LIKE THIS ONE. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS BACK IN CITY TRAFFIC. WHAT MY OBSERVATION IS, THAT WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GOES FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD, THERE IS A PROBLEM. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR, EVEN THEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SMOOTH BUT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM LIKE THE ONE I MENTIONED EARLIER. BUT AS THE MILEAGE IS INCREASING, THE PROBLEM IS GETTING BIGGER TOO. I DO REGULAR OIL CHANGE AS I HAVE PURCHASED SERVICE PLAN WHEN BUYING THE CAR. I HAD COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT IT(TRANSMISSION HAVING PROBLEM) COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT FEEL IT. I THINK THEY WERE NEGLECTING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION AND THAT COSTS A BIG AMOUNT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT AN EXPERT. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE SIDE AND BOTH THE EPS AND ESC OFF LIGHTS BECAME ILLUMINATED. I DROVE A LITTLE FURTHER AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO MOVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL GARAGE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND SERVICE. LUCKILY I WAS JUST DRIVING IN MY LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD, IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY I MAY HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I WENT TO DIM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR BECAUSE SOMEONE HAD THEIR BRIGHTS ON ME AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR FELL OFF. IT SHOCKED ME AND SO WHEN I PULLED OVER TO LOOK AT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED I NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT THE ADHESIVE TO JUST WEAR OFF, A CHUNK OF THE GLASS CAME OFF WITH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THERE IS CURRENTLY A HOLE IN MY WINDSHIELD, IT IS NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH BUT A MECHANIC SAID IF I EVEN HIT A POTHOLE TOO HARD THE WINDSHIELD CAN SHATTER. I AM NOT THE HULK AND CAN'T RIP APART GLASS SO THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM ARE UNABLE TO SEE ME TOMORROW AND I REALLY HOPE THAT THIS CAN BE RESOLVED. THANK YOU. *TT
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AND THE RPMS GO SKY HIGH AND THE CAR RUNS LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE TO TAP THE BRAKE BEFORE IT WILL ADJUST AND GO BACK INTO GEAR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIGGER PROBLEM WHEN CARRYING PASSENGERS. THE ADDED WEIGHT APPEARS TO BE A FACTOR. IT'S RATHER DANGEROUS SINCE IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WARNING AND HAPPENED JUST THIS PAST WEEKEND WHEN DRIVING IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. MILEAGE REPORTED IS ESTIMATED FOR WHEN I FIRST NOTED THIS PROBLEM APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO. NOT KNOWING A LOT ABOUT CARS, I DIDN'T THINK TO REPORT IT. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, I WAS TYPICALLY DRIVING FROM HOME TO WORK AND BACK, BUT HAVE BEEN TRAVELING MORE FREQUENTLY IN THE LAST YEAR DUE TO FAMILY ACTIVITIES. THE PROBLEM OCCURS MORE OFTEN ON LONGER TRIPS. *TR
LIKE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING SHUT DOWN, MAKING THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE DEALER CALIBRATED THE EPS WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR A CHARGE OF APPROXIMATELY $100. THINGS WORKED FINE FOR A WEEK, DURING WHICH TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ABOUT 500 MILES, BUT THEN THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED. THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 8,000 MILES BUT WAS STILL WITHIN THE FIVE YEAR WARRANTY TIME BY SEVERAL MONTHS. THE DEALER INFORMED HYUNDAI OF THE SITUATION, AND THEY APPROVED A "GOODWILL REPAIR" UNDER THE WARRANTY, WHICH CONSISTED OF RECALIBRATING AND REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, WHICH WOULD HAVE ORDINARILY HAD A CHARGE OF AROUND $2,000. I HAVE DELAYED REPORTING THIS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS TO BE CERTAIN THE REPAIR LASTED FOR A SIGNIFICANT LENGTH OF TIME. I ALSO WANTED TO REPORT, UNLIKE MOST OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, A RELATIVELY SATISFACTORY REMEDIATION OF THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BY OUR DEALER AND HYUNDAI. NEVERTHELESS THIS PROBLEM LOOKS TO BE COMMON ENOUGH AND CERTAINLY IS SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IT SHOULD HAVE HAD AN OFFICIAL SAFETY RECALL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
APRIL 1ST 2014 AT APROX. 9:15AM WHILE PERFORMING AN EMERGENCY ACCELERATION IN A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE WITH APROX.103000 MILES CAR BECAME STUCK ACCELERATING AND CONTINUED TO DO ONCE FOOT WAS LIFTED FROM BOTH PEDALS. BRAKES WERE EFFECTIVE AT SLOWING VEHICLE BUT ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT FULL THROTTLE. TAPPING ACCELERATOR WAS TRIED AND WAS INEFFECTIVE. CAR WAS SHIFTED BY OPERATOR INTO NEUTRAL AND RED-LINED ON RPM. OPERATOR SLAMMED ACCELERATOR PEDDLE TO FLOOR AGAIN AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION STOPPED AND CAR RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION. NO CRUISE CONTROL WAS BEING USED, NO HAZARD WARNING SYMBOLS CAME ON. CAR WAS SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE AND NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY OCCURRED. CAR ACCELERATED TO APROX 70MPH UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER FOR SERVICE A FEW HRS LATER WHO NOTED AND SHOWED CUSTOMER HOW OEM FLOOR MATS WHEN PROPERLY INSTALLED CAN POP UP AND TRAP ACCELERATOR PEDDLE DOWN IF ACCELERATOR PEDDLE IS FORCED TO FLOOR RAPIDLY. DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE ISSUE AND REMOVED FLOOR MAT FROM MOUNTING ON FLOOR AND LEFT LOOSE IN DRIVER'S FOOT AREA. CUSTOMER PUT FLOOR MAT IN BACK SEAT TO AVOID ISSUES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 30 MPH THE EPS LIGHT WENT ON AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OFF. I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT A MILE TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY RE-CALIBRATED THE SENSOR. THE CAR OPERATED FINE FOR TWO DAYS AND THEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN,( ALTHOUGH IT DOES RESET WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED). I THEN TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE I WAS TOLD THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT WAS LOCATED IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND IS RATHER COSTLY TO FIX. *TR

IN FEBRUARY 2014 A FRIEND TRIED TO ENTER THE CAR AND THE DOOR HANDLE PULLED OFF IN HER HAND. THE DOOR WAS NOT LOCKED WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO OPEN IT. THE CAR HAD APPROX. 31,000 MILES ON IT. THIS WAS A FRONT DOOR HANDLE. ON APRIL 20, 2015 (THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 45,000 MILES ON IT) MY DAUGHTER WENT TO REMOVE HER CHILD FROM THE REAR CAR SEAT. THE DOOR WAS NOT LOCKED AND THE REAR DOOR HANDLE PULLED OFF IN HER HAND. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE NEWS WERE SOMEONE IS PULLING A PASSENGER OUT OF A BURNING CAR AFTER AN ACCIDENT OFTEN. IF THE DOOR HANDLE WOULD HAVE PULLED OFF DURING THESE INCIDENTS, THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS WOULD HAVE BEEN BURNT ALIVE. *TR
HORN DOESN'T WORK IF HUMID OR RAINING ON LOCAL STREETS OR HIGHWAY. WHEN ON HIGHWAY USING SPEED CONTROL HAVE FELT SPEED PICKUP AFTER SETTING SPEED LIMIT. REPORTED TO COCONUT CREEK DEALERSHIP REPAIR COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. TOLD ME NOT TO USE SPEED CONTROL.
THE HYUNDAI WAS AT AN INTERSECTION AND PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ANOTHER CAR. THE ACCIDENT WAS BAD AND THE CAR WAS TOTALED BUT THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED AND THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE STATE TROOPER INVOLVED STATED HE THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AS WELL. *TR
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, I SUDDENLY HAD A UNINTENDED AND VERY RAPID ACCELERATION. WITH MY FOOT MASHING THE BRAKE PEDAL I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR ENOUGH TO COMPLETE THE PARK (IT DID NOT COMPLETELY STOP). I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE REALLY REVVED UP. ONCE I WAS SURE THE CAR WAS NOT GOING ANYWHERE, I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE (AND NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL). I THEN TOUCHED THE GAS PEDAL (OR SHIFTED IN PARK) AND THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO NORMAL. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT AND IT WAS IN NORMAL POSITION. I HAD A SIMILAR BUT WAY LESS DRAMATIC (MUCH LOWER RPMS) A MONTH PREVIOUS. THE CAR ACTED FINE AFTER THIS. I REPORTED THIS TO HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AND THEY ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER TO ME. I BROUGHT IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THIS EVENT WAS VERY TERRIFYING AND I AM NOT SURE I WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR
DRIVING ELANTRA TOURING 2010 ( WITH LESS THAN 28500 MILES) IN A LOCAL STREET, AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE TURN SIGNAL AND UNABLE TO OPERATE THE STEERING. THERE WERE SEVERAL LIGHTS, INCLUDING THE "ESC" WAS ON. IT IS REALLY SCARY WHEN VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET. I AM NOT SURE ANY RECALL AVAILABLE TO REMEDIATE THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
FIRST TIME THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 20MPH, SLOWING DOWN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TO REGAIN POWER STEERING. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY. I WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING NEEDED AN "UPDATE". AFTER THE UPDATE THE SAME THING HAPPENED A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WE WERE TOLD THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED CALIBRATION, SO THE STEERING WHEEL WAS RE CALIBRATED AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED AND SO THE MALFUNCTION WOULD NOT REOCCUR. HOWEVER, THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENED A 3RD TIME, ON 3/25, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH IN TRAFFIC, POWER STEERING SHUT OFF AND THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. WE WILL TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. THIS ISSUE IS UNSAFE AS WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT, WE HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE MALFUNCTION OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING AND POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK IF IT OCCURS AT A HIGH SPEED. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM AND LOST HER POWER STEERING. THE EPS (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHE WAS LUCKY SHE DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. SHE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED HER CAR OFF, THEN STARTED IT AGAIN. THE EPS LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE POWER STEERING WAS AGAIN WORKING. I PERFORMED AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE HYUNDAI EPS SYSTEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED IMMEDIATELY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
