THE CAR WILL NOT START ONCE IT IS TURNED OFF. IT COULD START ONCE AND GO TO THE STORE, AND THEN LOCK UP FOR A FEW HOURS. EVENTUALLY IT WILL ACT NORMAL AGAIN AD THEN START ALL OVER AGAIN. *TR
THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T START , IT WORKED FINE THE PREVIOUS EVENING AND IT LOCKED AS WELL . TODAY MORNING NOTHING WORKS ,I HAD TO MANUALLY OPEN THE CAR WITH THE KEY , AFTER I PLACED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION NOTHING LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD . TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES . *TR
AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, VEHICLE FAILED TO START FOLLOWING MORNING. ALTHOUGH ALL COMPONENTS REQUIRING POWER (WINDOWS, HEADLIGHTS, RADIO, INTERIOR LIGHTS, ETC.) SEEMED TO BE FUNCTIONING OK, JUMP STARTED VEHICLE, AND IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY. A FEW DAYS LATER PROBLEM RECURRED; LET VEHICLE SIT FOR SOME TIME, AND VEHICLE THEN STARTED IMMEDIATELY (NO JUMP START). TODAY PROBLEM OCCURRED YET AGAIN (WAITING TO SEE IF VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY START). A QUICK REVIEW OF ONLINE FORUMS INDICATES A POSSIBLE ISSUE WITH THE SHIFT INTERLOCK, OR PERHAPS A FAULTY RAIN SENSOR. AS AN ASIDE, A LONGER-TERM SPORADIC, PRESUMABLY ELECTRICAL, ISSUE ALSO EXISTS WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW. THE WINDOW WILL GO DOWN WITHOUT ISSUE, BUT IT OFTEN TAKES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS FROM EITHER THE PASSENGER SIDE OR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW CONTROL TO GET THE WINDOW BACK UP. *TR
WINDSHIELD WASHER STOPPED WORKING. REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE TIME TO FIX IT.
MY 2012 ELANTRA STARTED FINE THIS MORNING AND EVERY DAY PREVIOUSLY, BUT WHEN I WENT TO START IT AFTER SHOPPING, IT WOULDN'T START. I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND NOTHING. HOWEVER, ALL OF THE LIGHTS INSIDE WORKED. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO START AND IT FINALLY STARTED. I CAME HOME AND THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS, I WENT OUT TO GO SOMEWHERE AND ONCE AGAIN, IT WOULDN'T START. AFTER 3-4 TIMES OF TURNING THE KEY, IT FINALLY STARTED. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT READY TO BE PICKED UP TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I AM ASSUMING IT WILL NOT START AGAIN THE NEXT TIME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS WELL AS VIEWING VIDEOS OF THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENING. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN JUNE OF 2012 SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING STRANDED, BUT I MAY BE REGRETTING MY DECISION. *TR
I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR LAST NIGHT AND IT DIDN'T START, LIGHTS WERE ON FULL POWER AND EVERYTHING BUT NOT A SOUND FROM THE ENGINE... TRIED MANY MANY TIMES DIDN'T START. THEN RANDOMLY IT STARTED. DROVE HOME PARKED WENT OUT THIS MORNING AND TRIED AGAIN DID NOT START. I HAVE TRIED MANY TIMES THIS MORNING BUT AGAIN IT HAS NOT STARTED. *TR
HELLO, WELL, I AM THE FIRST OWNER, AND THERE WAS NOT ANY ACCIDENT BEFORE. LAST THURSDAY, AFTER I STARTED MY CAR, I TRIED TO SHIFT THE GEAR TO DRIVE, AND THE CAR WAS SUDDENLY SHOOK. I KEPT TRIED TO DRIVE IT, BUT WHENEVER THE RPM GOES UP TO 2000, THE CAR WAS BOUNCING LIKE THAT I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE OR SO. I WAS NOT EVEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT, AND IT WAS EVEN SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THEREFORE, I JUST TRIED IT AGAIN AT NIGHT, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. I PUT MY CAR INTO THE FITZGERALD HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER IN GAITHERSBURG, MD ON FRIDAY MORNING (11/7/14), AND I GOT MY CAR BACK YESTERDAY. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR, I ASKED THEM WHAT WAS THE WRONG WITH IT, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR DID NOT LEAD THE TEMPERATURE. THEREFORE, I TOLD THEM THAT I PUT MY CAR INTO THE HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER IN FAIRFAX, VA THREE MONTHS AGO FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, AND THE FAIRFAX REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT, SO THEY JUST RESET THE SOFTWARE SO THAT IT IS GOING TO BE FINE. HOWEVER, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER FEW MONTHS. A MAN FROM FITZGERALD TOLD ME THAT THIS TIME THEY UPDATE SOME NUMBERS, SO IT IS GOING TO BE FINE. I DO NOT KNOW WHENEVER THIS HAPPENS, THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, TOO, AND IT SEEMS LIKE THAT IT IS BREAKING TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE TOGETHER. SINCE THIS WAS NOT MY FIRST TIME, I REPORTED THIS TO THE HYUNDAI RECALL SERVICE CENTER. THEY CALLED ME YESTERDAY AND TOLD ME THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW THE REASON, BUT THEY FIXED IT. HOW COME THEY CAN FIX IT EVEN IF THEY DO NOT KNOW THE REASON? I KEPT COMPLAINED ABOUT IT, AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL EXPAND THE DATES FOR THE WARRANTY SO THAT I CAN FIX IT WHENEVER IT HAPPENS AGAIN! THEY ALSO SAID THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW THE NEXT STEP FOR IT. HOW IRRESPONSIBLE! NOW, ALL I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THIS IS THE DEFECTED CAR. CAN YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS? THANK YOU. *TR
INTERMITTENT PROBLEM: CAR DIDN'T TURN OVER. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT STARTED. DEALER COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. SECOND OCCURRENCE: WOULDN'T START, THEN IT DID WHEN I TRIED IT A THIRD TIME. THAT SAME DAY, CAR WAS IDLING FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES AS I WAS SITTING IN IT. I HAD PUT IT IN PARK AND WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT WOULDN'T BUDGE OUT OF PARK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF (FEARING THE WORST) AND IT STARTED AND ALLOWED ME TO PUT IT IN DRIVE. *TR
A FEW DAYS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, A WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARED ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THAT WEEKEND TO HAVE IT CHECKED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE FIRST UNUSUAL THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THE HYUNDAI LOGO APPEARED ON THE NAV SCREEN WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION.TYPICALLY THE HYUNDAI LOGO ONLY APPEARS WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED-NEVER WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ABOUT 10 MILES LATER, ALL OF THE POWER TO THE VEHICLE DISAPPEARED AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT FELT AS IF I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER DETERMINING THAT WAS NOT THE CASE, I LOOKED AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO SEE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. NOW I'M TRYING TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER WAS MAGICALLY RESTORED AND THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT THAT HAD APPEARED A FEW DAYS PRIOR WAS NOW GONE. I DID NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. NO, IT RESTARTED ALL BY ITSELF! I TOOK IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS WHO BOTH ASSURED ME THE CAR WAS FINE AND THAT WHAT I DESCRIBED WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO OCCUR. TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU THAT UNLESS YOU'VE EXPERIENCED LOSING ALL POWER TO A VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, YET HERE IS NOT ANOTHER FEELING LIKE IT. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR IT TO BE REPLACED. I WOULD HAVE FELT MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE HAD THE DEALERSHIP(S) FOUND SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. GIVEN THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG LEFT ME VERY LEERY OF THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ALSO, THE MPG GAUGE WOULD RESET ITSELF; AT IDLE, IT FREQUENTLY ALMOST STALLED; AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AT IDLE; THE COMPASS READOUT ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WOULD ALSO FLICKER AT IDLE WHEN THE VEHICLE ALMOST STALLED---VERY BIZARRE BEHAVIOR FROM A VEHICLE. *TR
WHENEVER I TRY TO TURN ON MY CAR EVERYTHING TURNS ON EXCEPT THE ENGINE. THE LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING ARE FINE. THE BATTERY TESTS FINE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. IT HAS NOT STARTED APPROXIMATELY 15-20 TIMES. BASED ON ACCOUNTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM THE ENGINE HAS ALSO STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THANKFULLY THE ISSUE HAS ONLY EVER OCCURRED WHEN MY CAR IS PARKED, BUT I'D REALLY RATHER NOT RISK IT HAPPENING ON THE ROAD IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *TR
UNABLE TO READ THE PART OF THE DASH THAT TELLS MILAGE DURING THE DAY. ONLY ABLE TO READ IT AT NIGHT. THEREFORE, WHEN I HAD MY OIL CHANGED TODAY, THE MECHANIC HAD TO ASK ME IF I KNEW THE MILEAGE SINCE HE WAS UNABLE TO READ IT. I TOLD HIM APPROX WHAT I HAD LAST NOTICED IT LAST NIGHT. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHEN GOING ON TRIPS AND MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM SAYS TO STAY ON A CERTAIN HWY FOR 16 MILES, FOR EXAMPLE, AND I AM UNABLE TO READ THE DISPLAY. IT ALSO MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CHECK MY MILAGE WHEN I FILL UP WITH GAS DURING THE DAY.
THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART OR SHIFT INTO PARK AND THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT. FINALLY GOT THE CAR TO START IN NEUTRAL AND CAR SPUTTERED AND IT REGISTERED NO RPMS, SO IT DIDN'T MOVE. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES CAR DID START IN NEUTRAL AND WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. *TR
ONE DAY IN JUNE, I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND THE PARK SENSOR ABOVE MY ODOMETER WOULD NOT SHOW. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL. I HAD TO CONTINUE TO TRY TO START THE CAR, BY TURNING THE KEY MULTIPLE TIMES INSIDE THE IGNITION AND PRESSING MY FOOT ONTO THE PEDAL. IT FINALLY STARTED, BUT NOT WITHOUT APPREHENSION ON MY PART. THE REST OF THE TIME, THE CAR WORKED OK FOR THE MOST PART, BUT WHENEVER I REACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE PARKED AND ACTED A BIT FUNNY. THE STORY ABOVE HAPPENED 8 MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM, ONLY TO REALIZE THE BATTERY WAS FINE. I TRIED OTHER TECHNIQUES, SUCH AS TURNING THE KEY COMPLETELY 90 DEGREES, BUT THAT DIDN'T SOLVE IT. FINALLY, I WENT TO THE DEALER AND UPON MY STORY BEING SHARED, THE MECHANICS IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH WAS NOT WORKING. THEY HAD NOTICED MORE HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012 CARS IN THE PAST FEW DAYS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SINCE I AM UNDER THE 5 YEAR / 60,000 MILE WARRANTY, THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED AT NO COST. HOWEVER, WHILE THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED AT MY END. I WOULD HOPE THIS STORY WOULD SPUR A FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCHES ON ALL HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012S AND SEE WHAT ISSUES (IF ANY) COULD RESULT OVER A FAULTED TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH. *TR
DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION AT APPROX. 45 MPH, DRY PAVEMENT, THE VEHICLE BRAKES SUDDENLY LOCKED UP, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH TIRES SCREECHING. DURING THE SKID INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND A FRIGHTENING ATTEMPT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, THE ABS LIGHT BLINKED SEVERAL TIMES THEN WENT OFF. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN DEADLY CONSEQUENCES HAD I BEEN DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR ON AN INTERSTATE. ( A FEW DAYS PRIOR, WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROX. 50 MPH THE BRAKES WERE MAKING A HORRIFIC GRINDING NOISE WITH NO PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS RESULTED IN DECREASE OF SPEED IN THE VEHICLE IN WHICH IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 40 MPH.) THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE THEY QUESTIONED IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM. THE COMPUTER READINGS WERE ALL GOOD AND SHOWED NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FINALLY, AFTER A SERVICE TECHNICIAN DRIVING IT HOME FOR THE NIGHT AND EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM TWICE HIMSELF, THEY REALIZED THERE WAS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. THE HECU (HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) HAD FAILED AT 31,685 MILES. THIS IS THE ANSWER THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS GIVEN FOR THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS STILL CURRENTLY IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEING REPAIRED. I AM STILL IN FEAR OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS BEING REPAIRED. *TR
THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT MAY BE DUE TO THE SWITCH OVERHEATING. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT I WILL PARK MY CAR AND WHEN I RETURN A FEW MINUTES LATER AND TRY TO START THE CAR NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP WHICH STATED THERE IS NO RECALL OF THE 2012 ELANTRA. AGAIN SINCE OTHER 2012 ELANTRA OWNERS ARE POSTING THIS ON YOUTUBE THAT TELLS ME THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *TR

IN ADDITION, ALMOST ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL EXCEPT THE PARKING INDICATOR. IT TOOK NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
I WAS DRIVING IN DRY WEATHER AND ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THE ESC LIGHT BEGIN TO BLINK FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THIS OCCURRED, AND THEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES LOCKED UP. LUCKILY, I WAS ENTERING ONTO A ON RAMP AND THE VEHICLE SKIDDED TO A STOP ONTO THE SHOULDER. IF THIS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A NEARBY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR REVIEW OF THE ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL OR MAKING A TURN AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SWAY BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE A THIRD TIME, THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
VEHICLE BROUGHT TO LESTER GLENN HYUNDAI TOMS RIVER NJ ON MARCH 21, 2014 FOR NOISE IN ENGINE OR TRANS...SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG..THEY PUSHED CAR OUT AND TOLD ME IT WAS A CLAMP FOR MY EXHAUST..I CONTINUED TO HEAR NOISE..(IT DID NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME) SO THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER 3 WEEKS LATER..THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS ON VEHICLE AND PUSHED MY CAR OUT TELLING ME THAT I HAD "AGGRESSIVE TIRES" ON THE VEHICLE.AND THEY CHARGED ME 243.00 FOR DIAGNOSTICS..MY VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY..THEY TOLD ME IF I DIDN'T PAY I WOULDN'T GET MY CAR BACK...I HAVE BRAND NEW COOPER TOURING TIRES ON AND THE PROBLEM WAS THERE BEFORE THE TIRES..ON 05/12/2014 I DROVE TO NEW YORK TO VISIT MY DAUGHTER AND WHEN I LEFT WAS ON 278 WEST TRAVELING TO TOMS RIVER NJ . GRINDING NOISE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES IN 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AFTER JUST 22000 MILES. MECHANIC SMOOTED ROTORS BUT SAID THE CALIPERS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS LATER AND IN CHECKING ONLINE FOUND LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. MOST OF US ARE CONCERNED THAT THE BRAKES CAN'T POSSIBLY BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IN PARTICULAR I TRY TO LEAVE A GREAT DISTANCE JUST IN CASE A SUDDEN STOP IS NEEDED AND THE BRAKES DON'T WORK LIKE THEY SHOULD. EVERY PERSON ON THE FORUM IS GETTING THE SAME LINE FROM THE HYUNDAI DEALERS, IT'S YOUR ROTORS AND PADS, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, WE ARE REPLACING OUR ROTORS AND PADS ONLY TO HAVE THEM RUINED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING MY 2012 ELANTRA, I STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING. DASH WOULD LIGHT UP NORMALLY, AND RADIO, ETC WORKED FINE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TRY TO TURN OVER AT ALL OR MAKE ANY NOISE WHATSOEVER. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS NOT SENSING THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK. THE DASH WILL NORMALLY DISPLAY P (FOR PARK), HOWEVER IN THESE INSTANCES THE DASH IS BLANK WHERE THE TRANSMISSION POSITION SHOULD BE DISPLAYED. THE SHIFTER IS ALSO STUCK IN PARK SO I CAN NOT MOVE TO ANY OTHER GEAR. IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, I HAVE TO USE THE SHIFT OVERIDE AND MOVE THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND THEN BACK INTO PARK. THE DASH WILL THEN DISPLAY THE P, AND I CAN START THE CAR NORMALLY. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS DON'T DETECT ANY PROBLEMS. TOW TRUCK DRIVER CONFIRMED THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON, THEN PREPPED CAR TO PLACE ON TOW TRUCK BED. HE GOT THE CAR TO DEALER, THEN ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON THE CAR AND IT DID. WHEN TAKING THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, IT OFTEN LURCHES INTO GEAR, WHICH THEN CONTINUES AS I DRIVE INTO 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, AND SOMETIMES 4TH GEAR. IT SHIFTS REALLY HARD, AS IF THE CAR WERE A MANUAL AND I WAS NOT SHIFTING VERY WELL BETWEEN GEARS. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO (~JUNE 2015) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND THE SHOP SAID THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR ERROR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE 2ND TIME THIS WEEK ON 7/14, AND TURNED OFF WITHIN 24 HOURS. I'VE CONTINUED TO HAVE THIS JERKING SHIFT ISSUE, THOUGH IT NEVER SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN IT'S AT THE SHOP. SECOND, THERE IS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL ISSUE/SHORT IN THE CAR, BECAUSE SOMETIMES WHEN I HAVE WINDOWS DOWN AND I HIT THE LEVER TO ROLL THE DRIVER'S WINDOW UP THE SUNROOF ALSO STARTS TO OPEN/CLOSE! OR, THE WINDOWS DON'T GO UP/DOWN AS HARD/SOFT AS I MOVE THE LEVER. ALSO, IN THE PAST MONTH OR SO (JULY 2015) THE PROXIMITY KEY SEEMS TO NOT WORK, AND I HAVE TO PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR HANDLE MULTIPLE (UP TO 10) TIMES BEFORE THE CAR WILL LOCK/UNLOCK. THIS ALSO PREVENTS ME FROM BEING ABLE TO START THE CAR (IGNITION SWITCH) BECAUSE IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY IS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP!
MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS HIT IN WHAT I BELIEVE IS KNOWN AS THE B-PILLAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (THE CENTER COLUMN BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR DOORS).I AM UNCERTAIN HOW FAST THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS GOING BUT IT WAS FAST ENOUGH TO DO APPROXIMATELY $6000 WORTH OF DAMAGE, AND I SUFFERED A HEAD AND BACK INJURY.THANKFULLY I DID NOT HAVE ANY PASSENGERS OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.I NORMALLY HAVE BOTH OF MY CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEAT BUT THEY WERE NOT WITH ME AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.I HAVE BEEN GIVEN SEVERAL EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHY THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, NONE OF WHICH MAKE SENSE TO ME.I UNDERSTAND THAT AIRBAGS THEMSELVES CAN CAUSE HARM AND THEY ARE DESIGNED ONLY TO DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED. WITH THAT BEING SAID, THE IMPACT POINT ON MY VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE AT EXACTLY THE POINT OF THE SENSOR IN THAT PILLAR (ACCORDING TO THE ILLUSTRATION IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL).I RECOGNIZE THAT MY CAR CAN SENSE WHETHER I HAVE A FRONT SEAT PASSENGER, BUT I AM NOT AWARE OF A SENSOR BEING IN THE REAR SEAT. I WORRY ABOUT WHAT THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF ONE OF MY CHILDREN HAD BEEN IN THAT REAR SEAT.MY VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE SO I HAD TO LEAVE IT AT A BODY SHOP THE DAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT.I AM UNABLE TO TRANSPORT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY ARE UNABLE TO INSPECT IT AT THE BODY SHOP.THEY TELL ME TO BRING IT IN FOR INSPECTION AFTER THE REPAIR.THE BODY SHOP TELLS ME THEY HAVE TO RELY ON THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SYSTEM TO DISPLAY A PROBLEM IF THERE IS ONE.AT THIS POINT, I HAVE LITTLE FAITH IN THE VEHICLE AND AM UNWILLING TO ACCEPT A FAILURE OF THE LIGHT TO COME ON AS A PROOF THAT EVERYTHING IS WORKING PROPERLY.ADDITIONALLY, I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW-THE EXTERIOR IS RED AND THE INTERIOR IS BLACK. I LATER LEARNED THAT THIS COLOR COMBINATION WAS NEVER AN OPTION, LEAVING ME TO QUESTION THE QUALITY ASSURANCE MEASURES IN PLACE. *TR
HAVE HAD 3 INSTANCES DURING WARM/HOT WEATHER THAT THE ESC LIGHT HAS COME ON (BLINKING) DURING NORMAL CITY DRIVING (AFTER A LITTLE FREEWAY DRIVING & USING THE AC) & THE VEHICLE PERFORMANCE IS IMPAIRED DUE TO THE ESC (NO PWR OR INADVERTENT BRAKING W/O DRIVER BRAKING). ONLY WAY TO BYPASS THIS IS BY USING THE ESC OFF BUTTON. IT APPEARS TO GO AWAY AFTER THE CAR IS SHUT OFF & COOLED DOWN. GUESSING THAT THIS IS SOME KIND OF HEAT RELATED PROBLEM (MAYBE A SHORT) WHICH CAUSES THE ESC TO IMPROPERLY KICK IN. *TR
THE ODOMETER IS COMPLETELY UNREADABLE. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS STRANGE, THE ONLY TIME I CAN SEE IT COMPLETELY CLEAR IS IN COLD FALL WEATHER IN THE EARLY MORNING. IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR QUITE A WHILE. IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER LIGHTING THAT WOULD FIX IT. THIS IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW MANY MILES WE HAVE ON IT UNTIL THE WEATHER IS RIGHT FOR VIEWING. I KNOW I HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE ON FORUMS BEFORE. IT SHOULD BE A RECALLED PART.
CAR WILL PERIODICALLY NOT START - ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND THERE IS A HUMMING SOUND. OFTEN OCCURS WHEN WHEEL IS ON AN ANGLE. CAR WILL TYPICALLY NOT START 4-5 TIMES IN A ROW. OVERHEAD LIGHTS WORK AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. A FEW MINUTES LATER, AFTER MUCH JIGGLING OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE TURNING ON IGNITION, IT STARTS FINE. ONE TIME IT STARTED AFTER EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS RELEASED AND THE CAR ROLLED A BIT. BROUGHT TO DEALER WHO COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM BUT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED WITH OTHER ELANTRAS. DEALER WAS ABOUT TO RELEASE CAR WHEN DRIVER DEMONSTRATED THAT GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. DEALER FOUND CODE C1513 BRAKE SWITCH SHORTED. BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. DEALER KEPT CAR A FEW DAYS WITH NO REPLICATIONS. 7 DAYS LATER, STARTING PROBLEM RECURRED AT DRIVER'S HOME AND AGAIN AFTER A DAY AT WORK. IN BOTH CASES, WHEEL WAS NOT IN "12 O"CLOCK" POSITION. IN CONVERSATION WITH DEALER, WE DISCUSSED THAT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED (NOT SURE OF DEFINITION), CAR SHOULD NOT START. HE RECOMMENDED JIGGLING THE WHEEL WHILE TURNING IGNITION. HE ALSO EXPLAINED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT WILL ONLY MOVE OUT OF PARK IF 1) IGNITION IS IN ON POSITION AND 2) FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. WHY IS STEERING WHEEL LOCKING SO OFTEN? *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE WHEEL ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT PROBLEM, WAS CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY, DOWN TO THE TREAD. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS DAUGHTER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN THE RAIN, DUE TO THE LACK OF TRACTION. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE, SINCE THERE WAS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE REAR SUSPENSION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CONTACT DRIVING OVER POTHOLES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE FAILURE OF BOTH THE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS 14,000. *TR
POTHOLE INDUCED TIRE FAILURE - TORN SIDEWALL. THE LIMITED EDITION OF THIS CAR IS FITTED WITH 17" RIMS -- STOCK TIRE IS A 215.45.17. WITH APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES OF DRIVING, WE HAVE DESTROYED THREE TIRES ON POTHOLES, FORTUNATELY ALL WERE AT LOW SPEED AND THERE WAS NO LOSS OF CONTROL. HOWEVER, HITTING A POTHOLE OR OTHER BREAK IN THE PAVEMENT AT HIGH SPEED COULD EASILY DESTROY THE TIRE AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. THE ASPECT RATIO IS SIMPLY TO SMALL FOR SAFETY. A REVIEW OF AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HYUNDAI ELANTRAS WITH 17" RIMS. I WAS HESITANT TO LET MY CHILDREN DRIVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY. AT OUR OWN EXPENSE WE HAVE REPLACED THE STOCK WHEELS AND TIRES WITH A 16" WHEEL AND LARGER ASPECT TIRE. *TR

EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, ON MARCH 23, 2013, JUST THREE DAYS BEFORE I AM TO HAVE AN ANTERIOR CERVICAL DISCECTOMY AND FUSION (WHICH IS THE RESULT OF A PREVIOUS AUTO ACCIDENT) A DRUNK DRIVER RUNS A RED LIGHT. T-BONING OUR 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE IMPACT CAUSES THE 2012 ELANTRA TO SPIN THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, COMING TO REST IN ITS ORIGINAL DIRECTION ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STREET, JUST A FEW FEET SHY OF A LARGE TREE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
