'TAKATA RECALL' WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IF I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP OR IRREGULARITY IN THE ROAD REAR END OF CAR JUMPS AROUND. ON WET OR SLICK ROADS IT IS EVEN WORSE. FROM THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. I NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH STABILITY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS UNSURE AS TO WHAT WAS CAUSING THE CAR TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS JUMPING AFTER HITTING SMALL BUMPS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I UNDERSTAND NOW THAT IT IS THE SUSPENSION THAT IS CAUSING THIS INSTABILITY. THE BUMPS I HIT ON THE HIGHWAY ARE NOT MAJOR BUMPS, THESE ARE JUST THE SMALL ONES THAT TRANSITION FROM SECTION TO SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY SO I KNOW IT ISN'T THE ROAD I DRIVE ON, IT IS THE CAR. ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ANYWHERE FROM 45-65MPH THE DRIVING STABILITY FEELS UNSAFE AND THE VEHICLE WAVERS BACK AND FORTH ON THE HIGHWAY, HAVING TO ALWAYS CORRECT IT. WHEN IT IS WINDY IT IS EXTREMELY WORSE. I CANNOT BELIEVE HYUNDAI MADE A CAR THIS UNSAFE. DRIVING THIS WINTER I HAVE ONLY HOPED THAT THE JUMPING AND WAVERING DOESN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO FEEL THAT WAY IN A VEHICLE. THE COMPANY SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ISSUES. THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN AT LEAST OVER 20 TIMES IN JUST THIS YEAR I'M AFRAID FOR MY LIFE AND SO ARE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLANKING NOISE AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE IN IT. WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AND YOU TURN THE WHEEL IT CLICKS
VEH SHUTS OFF WHEN DROPS BELOW 1-0 RPMS, USUALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS OR SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A STOP. ON FEW OCCASIONS IT TURNED OFF WHILE JUST DRIVING DOWN STREET. NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN . IT'S JUST LIKE SOMEONE TURNS THE KEY OFF, NOT A STALL . THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY DAY SINCE AT LEAST DEC OF 2018..IT IS NOW MAR 2019. IT IS HAPPENING MORE & MORE FREQUENTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK AND LEFT SHOULDER INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,569.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY VEERED INTO OPPOSING LANES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. MIDWAY HYUNDAI POST FALLS (1665 EAST EDMONTON AVENUE, POST FALLS, IDAHO 83854, (208) 619-2500) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
SINCE BUYING THIS CAR MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON. IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. IT IS CAUSING MY CAR TO SLOW DOWN WITHOUT ME USING THE BRAKES BY AS MUCH AS 10-15 MILES PER HOUR. AT THIS TIME I'M NOT SURE IF MY BREAK LIGHTS ARE STAYING ON.
INTERMITTENT ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATION. HAPPENS ONLY AFTER THE "VEHICLE CHECK IN PROGRESS". CAR HAS STARTED TO RUN ROUGH BOTH WHILE ACCELERATING AND AT A STOP. ACTS LIKE IT WILL SHUT OFF. HAVING TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PAT THE GAS TO KEEP IT RUNNING. THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NO ACTIVE RECALL. CONSTANT RUN AROUND AT THE SERVICE CENTERS. THEY SAY ITS NORMAL FOR IT TO RUN ROUGH. ALSO THE RUBBER STEERING COUPLER WENT BAD. WAS MAKING A THUD NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. ALSO A TSB FOR THIS....NO RECALL. BUT WAIT THERES MORE! THE CLOCK SPRING IS ALSO BAD! TSB FOR THIS TOO! BAD CLOCK SPRING RESULTS IN THE LOSS OF POWER TO THE BUTTONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I REPLACED THE STEERING COUPLING, I FORGOT TO PLUG IN A WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE WHEEL AND THE BUTTONS STARTED WORKING AGAIN BUT HAD NO POWER STEERING. PLUGGED THE HARNESS BACK IN AND HAD STEERING BUT THE BUTTONS NO LONGER WORKED. PRETTY SURE HYUNDAI IS UPLOADING ERROR CODES AND GIVING PEOPLE THE RUN AROUND IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET MORE MONEY. RECALL THIS CRAP ALREADY BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS. HOLD THIS COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING CRAP TO PEOPLE.
STEERING WHEEL HAS PLAY WHEN TURNED AND MAKES A THUMP/CLANKING NOISE.
TAKATA RECALL THE OPERATOR OF THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN FROM THE RIGHT LANE AND STRUCK THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS HIT IN THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE AND FORCIBLY PUSHED INTO THE STREET CURB. THIS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE AND THE SUSPENSION OF ALL FOUR TIRES. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION ON THE SCENE. THE DRIVER'S HEAD IMPACTED THE DRIVER'S WINDOW, DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE SIDE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT BRUISING AND A SERIOUS CONCUSSION. THE DRIVER REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM. DRIVER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CONCUSSION AND UPON FURTHER CARE A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. THE DRIVER HAS SUSTAINED VISION LOSS AND HEARING LOSS/TINNITUS REQUIRING HEARING AIDS. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET WHILE THE HYUNDAI WAS IN MOTION HEADED STRAIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. THE AT FAULT VEHICLE, A FULL SIZE FORD SUV WAS DRIVING IN EXCESS OF THE SPEED LIMIT AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE ACCIDENT WAS WITNESSED BY THE CITY OF PORTLAND FIRE ENGINE COMPANY AND RESCUE TEAM. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. APPROXIMATELY $6,000 IN DAMAGES OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AT A RATE OF $128 PER HOUR AND WAS QUOTED AT LEAST 2.5 HOURS TO ASSESS THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 44,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AS SCHEDULED.
THE HOOD LATCH WAS ACCIDENTALLY RELEASED, AND THEN WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE HOOD FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING OVER $2000 IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. OVER 600,000 HYUNDAI MODELS INCLUDING 2013 WERE RECALLED IN 2017 FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE: "HYUNDAI SAID A CABLE FOR THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH CAN CORRODE AND BIND, CAUSING THE LATCH TO REMAIN IN THE UNLATCHED POSITION WHEN THE HOOD IS CLOSED. THE HOOD MAY OPEN WHILE DRIVING IF THE HOOD IS NOT SECURELY CLOSED, OR IF THE HOOD IS INADVERTENTLY RELEASED." I WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS COMPLAINT IS LOGGED FOR THE ELANTRA MODEL AS WELL.
VEHICLE'S ENGINE MAKING A TAPPING NOISE FROM UNDER HOOD ON PASSENGER SIDE WHEN ENGINE WAS STARTED. NOISE INCREASED WITH ACCELERATION. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC . MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE CONCERN. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 78096 MILES. MASTER MECHANIC DETERMINED THE VEHICLE NEEDS NEW ENGINE AND RECOGNIZED THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT OCCUR ON A VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM REPLACE ENGINE UNDER MAJOR CONCERN OF SAFETY ISSUES : VEHICLE STALLING. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS VEHICLE BUT AS OF DATE HAS NOT ANSWERED TO REPLACING DEFECTIVE ENGINE UNDER A WARRANTY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL TAPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. OCCASIONALLY, THE ENGINE REVVED AND WOULD SEIZE MOMENTARILY BEFORE THE CONTACT COULD DRIVE OFF. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED OF 45 MPH MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2 DOOR COUPE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS SUDDEN FAILURE CAUSED THE STEERING TO HESITATE AND BE A LITTLE ERRATIC. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GO THE FEW MILES TO HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON TAKING THE CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER, THEY IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM WITHOUT EVEN EXAMINING THE CAR, A DEFECTIVE STEERING COUPLING IN MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING (MDPS). MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 11,750 MILES AND IS FOUR MONTHS PAST THE FIVE YEAR OVERALL WARRANTEE WHEN THE STEERING FAILURE OCCURRED LAST MONTH. IT CERTAINLY WAS NOT DUE TO EXCESSIVE WARE. SOME CAR OWNERS WERE ADVISED BY LETTER FROM HYUNDAI AND KIA OF THE PENDING PROBLEM I WAS NOT. ANY STEERING DEFECT IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS AND THIS ONE IS PERVASIVE ACROSS PRODUCT LINES. THIS PROBLEM IS SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IT IS RECOGNIZED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTEE BY HYUNDAI AND KIA IN VARIOUS MODELS OF ELANTRA, SONATA, FORTE AND OTHER MODELS PRODUCED FROM 2007 ' 2015. SEARCH WEBSITE 'HYUNDAI STEERING COUPLER'. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO RECOGNIZED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S ONLINE WEBSITE HYUNDAI-FORUMS.COM AS FAR BACK AS 2007. THE OLD PART WAS REPLACED BY A NEWLY ENGINEERED PART IN 2015, PART NUMBER 56315 2K000FFF. HOWEVER, THIS SAFETY ACTION DOES NOT APPLY TO MY ELANTRA 2 DOOR COUPE, WHICH USES THE SAME PART. PERHAPS THIS IS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT COMPLAINTS FILED, OR LOWER PRODUCTION, AND LIMITED YEARS THAT THE COUPE WAS PRODUCED. THIS SAFETY INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE DISSEMINATED TO ALL ELANTRA OWNERS.
THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE AT THE 11:00 AND 1:00 POINTS OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURS IN MOTION AS WELL AS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE COUPLER IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS DETERIORATING AND CAUSING THE PROBLEM, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT.
MY STEERING IS MARKING A POPPING SOUND WHEN TURNING TOOK MY CAR TO LOCAL FIRESTONE TO FIND OUT IT IS A LITTLE RUBBER SPIDER GEAR THAT IS RECALLED ON OTHER HYUNDAI CARS BUT NOT MINE I'M WANTING TO KNOW HOW CAN THIS BE AS IT'S THE SAME PARTY NUMBER AS RECALLED IN OTHER HYUNDAI CARS

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW RUBBER COUPLING FOR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE MORE THAN TWICE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA HOTLINE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 62,000. *TT *TR
MY CAR WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF MY DRIVEWAY AND ON MONDAY MORNING, I PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR CRANKED BUT DID NOT WANT TO TURN OVER. THE NIGHT BEFORE, MY CAR WAS RUNNING FINE. I'M LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED AT HOME AND NOT STRANDED ELSEWHERE. I CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND CHECKED THE FUSES AND SENSORS AND STILL IT DID NOT WORK. AFTER READING OTHER FORUMS, THERE WERE ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. A MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD CHANGE THE IGNITION SWITCH. I WENT TO HYUNDAI PARTS TO BUY ONE AND THE GUY WHO WORKS THERE TOLD ME THAT THE SWITCH IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IS MADE OF PLASTIC THAT CAN EASILY CAUSE CRACKS OR CONDENSATION WHERE WATER CAN GO INSIDE. IN ADDITION, HE MENTIONED HYUNDAI KNEW ABOUT THIS AND MADE AN UPDATED PART WHICH IS MADE OF METAL. KNOWING THAT THIS WAS FAULTY AND HYUNDAI HAD HID THE INFORMATION, THE IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON, AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE AT RANDOM MOMENTS. AFTER TWO DAYS, STEERING BEGAN MAKING A "POP" SOUND WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. BROUGHT TO DEALER AND CONFIRMED THE ISSUE IS WITH THE RACK AND PINION. CAR HAS 40K MILES AND IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. NO ACCIDENTS AND USED ONLY TO COMMUTE <10 MILES TO AND FROM WORK. THIS IS CONSIDERED OUTSIDE OF HYUNDAI'S 5 YEAR WARRANTY (EVEN THOUGH I AM WITHIN THE MILEAGE CONSIDERATION) SO IS NOT COVERED.
MY STEERING COUPLER HAS DETERIORATED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ONLINE
MY BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, I'VE HAD THEM REPLACED 3 TIMES. MY RPMS DO NOT WORK WHEN I PUSH THE GAS, THE VEHICLE WON'T GO MORE THAN 20 MPH, WHEN CHANGING MY GEARS, IT DOESN'T WORK, AND WHEN I AM AT A STOP LIGHT OR JUST SITTING IN A PARKING LOT WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING IT TURNS OFF ON IT'S OWN. WHEN I TRY TO START THE VEHICLE IT WON'T TURN MOST THE TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING, THE SEAT BELT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI OF ST. AUGUSTINE (2898 U.S. 1, ST AUGUSTINE, FL 32086, (904) 797-7800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS CAUSING THE SEAT BELT INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
RANDOMLY LAST WEEK, THE RED AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH. THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF AND ON ABOUT EVERY 5-10 MINUTES, WHILE DRIVING AND STATIONARY. SOME DAYS, THE LENGTH OF TIME IT WAS OFF WOULD EXTEND LONGER THAN OTHER. OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, THE LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON CONSISTENTLY. I READ SIMILAR ISSUES ONLINE FROM OTHER 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA OWNERS WHO STATED THAT THE DRIVER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF THIS LIGHT IS ON IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. YET, I FOUND NO RECALLS ONLINE. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PRIOR ISSUES WITH FALSE WARNING LIGHTS AND THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT IN OVER 4 YEARS. THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO MAINTAIN THESE SAFETY FEATURES IN MY CAR SO I WILL NOT PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT WAS NOT CAUSED DUE LACK OF OWNER DILIGENCE. HOWEVER, I NEED TO ENSURE MY CAR WILL DEPLOY ANY SAFETY FUNCTIONS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT WHEN TRIGGERED.
STEERING WHEEL HAS EXCESSIVE PLAY AND MAKES NOISE WHEN TURNING TO RIGHT, FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE. THIS OCCURS EVEN WHEN STATIONARY. FEELS VERY UNSAFE AND WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE CAR. PROBLEM SUDDENLY STARTED AFTER ONLY 31770 MILES. IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING AND OWNING 15 VEHICLES NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED SUCH A STEERING PROBLEM. TOOK IT INTO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A FLEXIBLE COUPLING , PART ONLY COST $1.26 BUT LABOR COST WAS $270.00. THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY CAR COMPANY EITHER UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY OR SAFETY RECALL. LOOKS LIKE A NEW BETTER DESIGNED COUPLING HAS REPLACED THE ORIGINAL. HYUNDAI SHOULD NOTIFY OWNERS BEFORE THE PROBLEM OCCURS .
THE INSIDE DOOR PANELS ARE VERY STICKY. NOTHING TAKES THE STICKY AWAY. OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES ARE FADING AND CHIPPING ON DOOR HANDLES ONLY. *TR
2013 ELANTRA GT, 5 YEARS OLD AT 109K MILES. WE BOUGHT IT USED 3 MONTHS AGO. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON A WEEK AGO. THE PROBLEM IS THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THIS TYPE AND YEAR VEHICLE. THE DEALER TOLD US TO CALL HYUNDAI CORPORATE AT 800-633-5151 AND ASK FOR "GOOD WILL" WARRANTY COVERAGE WHICH I DID AND I HAVE A CASE OPEN # 11648781. THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE WAS EVASIVE AND NOT WILLING TO DO MUCH. THE SAME WITH THE DEALER. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NHTSA ID NUMBER IS 10115229, THE MANUFACTURER SERVICE BULLETIN # IS 5NP-E9R9G-08 (ATTACHED HERE). THE ISSUE COVERS 2011-2014 ELANTRA AND 2011-2013 SONATA MODELS. THE CLOCK SPRING PART # IS EXACTLY THE SAME BETWEEN THESE MODELS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SOME CARS ARE COVERED AND SOME NOT. IF THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM TO TRIGGER EXTENDED WARRANTY, ALL CARS IN THE AFFECTED YEARS MUST BE COVERED. THE CLOCK SPRING SHOULD LAST HE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, THUS THE 15 YEARS EXTENDED WARRANTY. HYUNDAI SHOULD DO GOOD BY ITS CUSTOMERS AND FIX ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. EXTENDED WARRANTY IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN A FULL BLOWN RECALL. ONE LAST THING, THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IS DISABLES THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS ARE ALSO AFFECTED, THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON A MIXED UP, THE CANCEL BECAME SET FOR EXAMPLE WHICH COULD BE QUITE DANGEROUS. OTHER BUTTONS DON'T WORK AT ALL OR ALL THE TIME. THIS IS MY SECOND HYUNDAI VEHICLE AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE THE LAST. VERY FRUSTRATING.
STEERING WHEEL HAS A CLUNKING NOISE. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS GOING TO COME LOOSE. IT SHOWS THAT THERE IS A SMALL GEAR INSIDE THE STEERING MOTOR, WHICH BREAKS APART LITTLE BY LITTLE, UNTIL YOU CANNOT LONGER MANEUVER THE CAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. TALK ABOUT AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I HAVE BEEN IN 2 NEAR ACCIDENTS IN THIS CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN JULY OF 2018. MY REGULAR MECHANIC THOUGHT IT WAS A CAR MAT PROBLEM AND REMOVED THE MAT. THIS WAS AFTER MY CAR ACCELERATED SO HIGH THAT I JUMPED THE CURB AND LANDED IN THE YARD. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY POLICY AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THE REPAIR. THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE AT THIS POINT THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER A PLATINUM PROTECTION PLAN. IM VERY DISAPPOINTED.
TIMING CHAIN IS DAMAGED AND CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE
AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINING ON AND WAS TOLD IT IS THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH IS BEING RECALLED ON MULTIPLE OTHER HYUNDAIS BUT DEALERS SAYS NOT THIS MODEL. CAR IS JUST 5 YEARS OLD, SHOULD NOT NEED SAFETY SYSTEM REPLACED YET.
I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED TO TAKATA RECALL. BUT THE ELECTRONICS CONTROLLING THE AIR BAG AND CRUISE CONTROL ARE NOT FUNCTIONING! THE POOR DESIGN OF THE STEERING COVERS SQUEEZE THE WIRES THAT ARE BENT INTO THE CONNECTOR CAUSING THESE CIRCUITS NOT TO FUNCTION. AT THIS POINT, THE RED LIGHT FOR THE AIR-BAG IS ON ALL THE TIME WHICH MEANS THE IT WILL NOT DEPLOY CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE. THIS STEERING COVER DESIGN IS COMMON ON ALL ELANTRA MODELS SO WE SUSPECT THE PROBLEM COULD IMPACT SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF CARS. I MANAGED TO TEST THE PROBLEM, BUT PULLING THE COVER OFF AND TESTING THE WIRES. WHEN THE COVER IS PULL AWAY FROM THE BODY OF THE STEERING, THE CIRCUIT FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS! HYUNDAI SHOULD RE-LOCATE THE PLUG WHERE THESE WIRES ARE CONNECTED FURTHER LOWER TO AVOID THESE WIRES GETTING SQUEEZED. AND FOR THE CURRENT MODELS, A SHORTER CONNECTOR COULD REMEDY THIS PROBLEM BY PREVENTING THE WIRES FROM GETTING SQUEEZED.

WHILE DRIVING (ROUGHLY 55-60 MPH) ON HWY 50 TO TAHOE THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. THERE WAS A LOUD SHOTGUN SOUND WHICH WAS FOLLOWED BY THE GLASS OF THE SUNROOF FALLING BETWEEN THE CLOTH COVER INTO THE CAR ON US. THERE WAS NO ROCKS OR GIANT PINECONES NEAR BY THAT COULD HAVE STRUCK THE CAR OR CAUSED THE DAMAGE.

I WAS ON MY WAY BACK FROM CO TO MN. AS I ENTERED LUSK, WY, A STRANGE "CLUNKING" NOISE STARTED TO ARISE FROM THE ENGINE AND SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO DRIVE OR PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPORT STATED THAT THEY WERE "ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AND SHORTLY AFTER THE CRANKSHAFT SEIZED AND THE ENGINE NO LONGER TURNED OVER." THE VEHICLE HAD ONE PREVIOUS OWNER SO THE REPLACEMENT WAS NOT COVERED BY A WARRANTY. I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR A YEAR AND REPLACED THE OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO POSSIBILTY THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE OCCURED DUE TO NEGLIGENCE ON BEHALF OF CHANGING THE OIL.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. I DRIVE EIGHT MILES WITH IT ON. IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY SOUND OR ANYTHING THAT CONCERNED ME, ASIDE FROM THE LIGHT. PARKED IT AT HOME AND WENT TO GET A CODE READER. TRIED TO START IT AND IT WOULDN'T START. HAD TO FLAT BED IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE 114K MILES. KEPT UP ON MAINTENANCE. HAD IT IN A MONTH PRIOR FOR BRAKES AND IT WAS LOOKED INNER WITH NO PROBLEMS. HYUNDAI WILL DO NOTHING BECAUSE IT IS OVER WARRANTY. PRIOR TO ALL OF THIS I HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT WITHIN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF OWNING IT. HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED , MASTER CYLINDER, SLAVE CYLINDER TWICE, ALONG WITH MULTIPLE OTHER ISSUES INCLUDING SPORADICALLY PULLING HARD TO THE LEFT FOR NO APPARENT REASON, BEFORE IT WAS EVEN AT 16K.

DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT ROUTINELY BURNS OUT. MECHANIC SAYS HE HAS BEEN SEEING THIS WITH ELANTRAS REGULARLY.

THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
AS I AM DRIVING THE CAR ON CITY STREETS, HIGHWAYS ETC. THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AND STARTS FLASHING AND AT THE SAME TIME THE RADIO, NAVIGATION SYSTEM. BLUETOOTH. BLUE LINK MONITORING SYSTEM, AS WELL AS SENSORS/MONITORING EQUIPMENT SHUTTING DOWN AND RESETTING AND OTHER SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN. I ALSO CAN NOT USE MY KEY FOB TO LOCK MY DOORS UNTIL THE CAR HAS RESET. USUALLY THE CAR WILL RESET BETWEEN FIVE MINTUES TO AN HOUR. CONCERN THAT THE ISSUE WILL INTENSIFY WITH THE SUDDEN SHUT DOWN OF THE ENGINE RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST 9 MONTHS, WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS IN CORRECTING THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE CANNOT BE REPLICATED WHEN THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI USA THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE DEALER CANNOT REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE. OTHER PERSONS HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR ISSUES WITH NO SOLUTION AND RECEIVING THE SAME GUIDANCE FROM HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS.ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER @ 6 TIMES FOR ASSESSMENT SINCE OCTOBER 15, 2017 THROUGH PRESENT. THE ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED AT A VARIETY OF SPEEDS, 30MPH UP TO 65-70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE LIGHT HAD BEEN ON FOR A WHILE NOW, IT GOES OFF ONCE I START THE ENGINE BUT ONCE I START TO DRIVE IS WHEN IT COMES ON. REAR BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINING ON EVEN WHEN CAR IS IN PARK, IGNITION IS TURNED OFF, ALL LIGHTS ARE TURNED TO OFF POSITION.
HYUNDAI REPLACED MY 2013 ELANTRA'S ENGINE (68K MILES) AS A "GOODWILL GESTURE" DUE TO A FLAW IN THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WHICH WASN'T ALLOWING ENOUGH OIL TO GET TO THE ENGINE. TWO DAYS AFTER THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT THE CAR DIED WHILE BEING DRIVEN IN WHICH THEY SUSPECTED IT BE A FUEL PUMP ISSUE. AFTER RESOLVING THAT SUSPECTED ISSUE THE CAR AGAIN SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION DURING THE TEST DRIVE AND CAUGHT FIRE WHILE THE CAR WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF A CITY STREET AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR ONLY ONE BLOCK.
