I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AS A NEW VEHICLE BACK IN NOVEMBER OF 2013. I RECENTLY DECIDED TO UPGRADE MY VEHICLE TO A SUV. AFTER PURCHASING THE NEW VEHICLE, MY INTENTION WAS TO SELL MY OLD VEHICLE (THE ELANTRA) TO MY FIANCE. PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE TITLE TRANSFER, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE ELANTRA AND BROUGHT IT IN TO TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE ON 2/3/18 (THERE WERE 96,631 MILES ON THE CAR AT THIS SERVICE). WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL WORK, THE CAR WAS MAKING A SLIGHT TICKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALERSHIP PROCEEDED TO COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIR, AND ALSO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD SOME BULBS OUT AND THAT I WOULD NEED NEW TIRES SOON. THEY FAILED TO ADDRESS THE TICKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE.WE PROCEEDED WITH THE TITLE TRANSFER ON 2/7/18. MY FIANCE DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IN TO WALSER HYUNDAI ON 2/12/18 TO HAVE THE TICKING NOISE ADDRESSED. WE WERE THEN INFORMED THAT THE CAR IS IN NEED OF MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR AND THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD BE $5,900. I INQUIRED ABOUT THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH WOULD COVER SUCH REPAIRS UP TO 100,000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE WE TRANSFERRED THE TITLE THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. WE WOULD NOT HAVE PROCEEDED WITH THE TITLE TRANSFER UNTIL THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEGLECTED TO ADDRESS THE NOISE BECAUSE THEY KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS (THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE), SAW THE CAR WAS ALMOST PAST THE 100K MILE LIMIT FOR THE WARRANTY FIGURED THAT BY THE TIME WE BROUGHT IT BACK IN, THE CAR WOULD BE OVER THE MILEAGE LIMIT FOR THE WARRANTY. I DID FILE A COMPLAINT/CASE WITH HYUNDAI AND THEY AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR.
MAKING A NOISE
CAR HAD BEEN MAKING AN AWFUL SOUND, TICKING ALMOST FOR A WHILE... TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHOT. THEY SAID THERE WERE 12 OTHER ELANTRAS AT THEIR GARAGE ALONE WAITING TO BE REPAIRED FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THEY SAID CERTAIN YEARS THEY'VE NOTICED ARE BEING AFFECTED, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER THE MILEAGE, THEY'RE GETTING CARS WITH EVEN JUST 20K MILES COMING IN NEED OF A NEW ENGINE. ESTIMATED THE PART AT $2400, DON'T HAVE THAT TO SPARE.
I NOTICED MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS MAKING A SOUND FROM THE DRIVER SIDE( IN 2018 )WHEEL WHEN I TURN AND ALSO THE CAR SWAYS WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED. I REPORTED IT TO THE HYUNDAI OF LAS VEGAS DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY HYUNDAI FROM ON 6/2017 BUT THEY SAID I HAD NO EXTENDED WARRANTY. I THEN RECEIVED A "RECALL NOTICE" FOR THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA (1/29/2018) AND TOOK IT BACK TO HYUNDAI OF LAS VEGAS WHO FIXED A BRAKE PEDAL DEFECT FREE OF CHARGE. I KNOW THERE ARE 29 HYUNDAI CONSUMER COMPLAINTS REPORTED TO THE NHTSA ABOUT THE "SWAYING MOTION" ON HYUNDAIS THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THE SUSPENSION WHICH SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL PRIORITY LIST TO IN MY OPINION SINCE I AM MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR MY USED HYUNDAI. IT WILL COST THE PRICE OF A NEW CAR AFTER I AM DONE PAYING OFF THE ENTIRE CAR LOAN I OWE. *TR
THE ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A LOUD CLICKING NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,300.
IN DECEMBER 2017 & JANUARY 2018 ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE CARS ABS LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS IF THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED AT ALL. A VIBRATION WAS NOTICED LIKE THE BRAKES WOULD IN A SKIDDING SITUATION BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE FAILURE RESULTED IN A COUPLE FEW CALLS AND FINALLY AN ACCIDENT . IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO FAILURES OR CODES IN THE COMPUTER TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. A WEEK LATER WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI - NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 17V-769 (HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN 170). THIS WAS THE STOPPER PAD RECALL AND IT DID FIX THE PROBLEM. LOOKING AT THE INVOICE FROM THE DEALER THE RECALL WAS DONE BUT WE WERE NEVER TOLD IT WAS RELATED TO THE PROBLEM. THE RECALL NOTICE DID NOT SEEM TO PROPERLY STATE THE SERIOUS RISK OF THE PROBLEM. IT DID STATE IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH BUT ALSO STATED "A DETERIORATED STOPPER PAD DOES NOT AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE'S SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". THIS WAS FOUND OBVIOUSLY TO NOT BE TRUE. I BELIEVE THE NOTICE SHOULD HAVE STATED NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED. WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO BE INJURED BUT THE CAR DID HAVE OVER A THOUSAND IN DAMAGE. WE CALLED AND EMAILED THE MANUFACTURER BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE.
THIS IS A PUBIC RECALL. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEMS THAT HAS BEEN WARNED. I WOULD LIKE TO BRING MY CAR TO GET SEVICED TO MAKE SURE THEIR ARE NO HIGH RISK TO ME AS A DRIVER. THANK YOU FOR ANNOUNCING THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
STEERING IS VERY STILL, CAUSING DRIVER TO OVER CORRECT AND GOING FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN THE LANE ON THE INTERSTATE.
"TAKATA RECALL". I WENT IN TO FIND A CAR. RAN INTO MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA. RAN GREAT DID MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. DID ALL MY ROUTINE CHECKS. NOW I'M HAVING TO FIX OR REPLACE MY ENGINE DO TO NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. 64,000 MILES 2ND OWNER. I NOTICED THE TICKING WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH MY CHILDREN AND PARKED, THE TICK NEVER WENT AWAY AND NOT ONE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OIL LIGHT CAME ON. NOW THAT THIS BECAME AN ISSUE FOR ME, I NOTICE IT'S HAPPENING EVERYWHERE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, RESTARTED, AND THEN OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FUCCILLO HYUNDAI (3975 W RIDGE RD, ROCHESTER, NY 14626, (585) 720-9000) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 4DR GLS WITH 86,000 MILES ON IT. RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF. TOOK IT TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER IN LANSING, MI. TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $122 JUST TO READ THE FAULT CODE WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS FAULT CODE B138200. THEY SAID IT WAS THE AIRBAG FRONT SEAT PASSENGER BACK ASSEMBLY. PART NUMBER 884003X631PBS. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I AM OVER 60,000 MILES. WHEN I LOOKED UP THE FAULT CODE IT STATED SIDE AIRBAG FRONT PASSENGER RESISTANCE TOO HIGH. THEY WANT $1,321.00 TO FIX IT. SEARCHING ON LINE REVEALED MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA AIRBAG SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. THANKS
AT LESS THAN 5 YEARS OF USE THE "CLOCK-SPRING" LOCATED IN THE STEERING COLUMN BECAME "DEFECTIVE" CAUSING THE SRS IDIOT LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND INDICATING THE ENTIRE SRS SYSTEM IS SHUTDOWN. THIS VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OF AGE WITH A DEFECTIVE CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT FAILURE THAT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO COVER FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN FORCE BY GOVERNMENT AGENCY. THIS COMPONENT IS NOT EXTERNAL BUT RATHER WELL PROTECTED AND NOT SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLUIDS, OR EXTERNAL FORCES OTHER THAN ITS NORMAL OPERATION OF SIMPLY TURNING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS COMPONENT CONNECTS THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG TO THE SRS SYSTEM HOWEVER INSTEAD OF SIMPLY DISABLING THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG, IT'S FAILURE DISABLES ALL THE AIRBAGS AS WELL AS ANY OTHER SAFETY DEVICE CONNECTED TO THE SRS SYSTEM. THROUGH NO FAULT OF THE OWNER OR THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE, THE SRS SYSTEM CAN SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING WITH NO AUDIBLE INDICATION OTHER THAN A SMALL IDIOT LIGHT ON THE DASH WHICH CAN EASILY BE UNNOTICED. IF A CRASH SITUATION OCCURS, THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. I CONTEND THIS PART IN THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN POORLY DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED AND BECOMES DEFECTIVE LONG BEFORE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM SERVICE. THIS PART, AT THE VERY LEAST, SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY HYUNDAI. FURTHERMORE A STUDY OF EXISTING CLOCK-SPRINGS USED BY THIS MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE STUDIED AS THIS IS NOT A FIRST FOR THIS PART AND THIS MANUFACTURER. ATTACHMENT DOC SHOWS REPAIR, PART NUMBER, AND COST OF REPAIR. FURTHERMORE, THIS ITEM SHOULD NOT BE A MILEAGE WARRANTY PART...THE LIFE OF THIS PART IS BASED ON HOW MANY TIMES THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED, NOT HOW MANY MILES THE CAR IS DRIVEN..A CITY CAR WILL HAVE MUCH MORE TURNS THAN A HIGHWAY VEHICLE.
ENGINE HAS A TICKING NOISE
HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED CERTAIN MODEL YEARS ELANTRAS TO DUE A DEFECTIVE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING. HOWEVER, HYUNDAI WILL NOT HONER THIS RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE IN THE ELANTRA GT MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR. THESE MODELS UTILIZE THE SAME PART! FAILURE OF THIS PART PREVENTS THE DRIVERS AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING. THIS IS A MASSIVE SAFETY FAILURE!
HYUNDAI HAS OFFICIALLY RECALLED THE 'RUBBER COUPLING IN THE MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY ON ALL 2007 - 2015 MODELS'. HYUNDAI WILL NOT HONER THE SAME RECALL ON THE ELANTRA GT MODEL. THEY UTILIZE THE EXACT SAME PARTS. INSTEAD, THEY ARE CHARGING CUSTOMERS HIGH FEES TO REPLACE THIS 5 DOLLAR PART. THIS COUPLER BINDS THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE MOTOR. WHEN IT FAILS YOU LOSE STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE RECALLED FOR ALL AFFECTED MODELS?

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, AND MORE FREQUENTLY, ONCE VEHICLE IS PUT IN DRIVE THE DISPLAY GOES BLANK AND THE CAR IS UNABLE TO BE MOVED PAST NEUTRAL TO BE PUT IN PARK. CAR MUST BE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER TO MOVE GEAR SHIFT TO NEUTRAL OR PARK.
PAINT IS PEELING IN SECTIONS ON BUMPER AND DOOR HANDLES. HAVE SEEN THIS ON OTHER ELANTRAS AND ONLINE
1-THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME ! 2- THE CAR WAS RECALLED FOR A BREAK ISSUE, SINCE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE PADDLE FEEL LOSER(( I NEED TO PUSH THE BREAK TWO TIMES TO GET THE CLIPPERS WORKS! I HAVE CHANGED THE BREAK CLIPPERS AND THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!
THE ENGINE MAKES PISTON SLAP NOISE WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS COLD AROUND 50 OR BELOW FAHRENHEIT. THE ENGINE WILL MAKE LOUD CLAPPING NOISE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW. POSSIBLE CAUSE IS PISTON SKIRT BEING TO SHORT CAUSING SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT WHEN COLD. HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. IN CANADA HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAS NOTIFIED THEM TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated she was unable to start the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to start the vehicle within 10 minutes. The contact stated she continued to experience the failure. The contact stated she called AAA company, who came to her residence and replaced the battery. The contact stated she continued to experience the failure and had the battery replaced for a second time. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the battery to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed her they would not service her vehicle anymore; and she would need to seek service at another dealer. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
I had a rear tire blowout causing the car to stop rapidly causing me to hit my face on the steering wheel so hard I got knocked out . My foot pressed on the gas and I hit a parked car. And my airbags never deployed. Insurance didn't pay my claim because it wasy falt I hit a parked car. Because I was knocked out. I don't remember anything about 30 seconds before the accident. Had my airbags worked maybe I could have remembered what really happened. When the collusion center inspected my car they said a defect in the car was the cause of my accident. But the insurance already denied the claim. The yellow tab was the airbag sensor
FREQUENTLY TIRE SIDE WALLS BULGE AND CRACKS. CANNOT SEE AS THE PROBLEM FOUND INSIDE AND PROBLEM INDICATED BY LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING IN DASH BOARD. SERVICE DEALER CONCLUDED TIRE DAMAGES FROM POT HOLES. FIRST TWO DAMAGES OCCURRED AT 11557 AND 13116 MILES. THIRD AND FOURTH TIME DAMAGES TOOK PLACE AT42244 AND 45634 MILES. DURING FIRST TIME FAILURE, CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ON THEIR ADVISE CONTACTED NEXEN TIRE MANUFACTURER. THEY INFORMED TIRE DAMAGE MIGHT BE FROM POT HOLES. SERVICE DEALER ALSO CONCLUDE THE SAME. ON 12-30-17 CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORPORATE SERVICE AND THEY SAID TO CONTACT NEXEN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEED ATTENTION
MY CAR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A CODE P0711 CAR WAS JUMPING SLIPPING THERE'S BEEN A TECH BULLETIN ON THIS PART SINCE JUNE 2014. I'VE EXPERIENCED MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT UTILIZE AN OBD-II SCANNER TO CHECK FOR A STORED P0711 TROUBLE CODE CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND COMPARE TO MANUFACTURER PRESET LEVELS CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID QUALITY CHECK TRANSMISSION PAN FOR CLUTCH OR OTHER DEBRIS, WHICH, IF FOUND, MAY REQUIRE A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILD CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKS VISUALLY CHECK FOR DAMAGED, CORRODED, OR LOOSE ELECTRICAL WIRES AND CONNECTORS UNPLUG TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR FROM ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AND TEST FOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE, WHICH IS TYPICALLY 5 VOLTS BUT CAN VARY DEPENDING ON VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL CHECK SENSOR GROUND WIRE TEST SENSOR RESISTANCE AND COMPARE TO MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS DISCONNECT THE ECM/PCM ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO TEST RESISTANCE AS WELL AS CIRCUIT CONTINUITY BETWEEN THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND ECM/PCM
THE CAR DIED AT AN INTERSECTION IN DEC 2017 AFTER IT JUST STARTED SHAKING AT A STOP LIGHT. EVENTUALLY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED BUT IT WAS LOCKED IN DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE HAD A TICKING NOISE WHEN I PICKED IT UP STILL WHEN I PICKED IT UP. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS SOMETHING INSIDE ENGINE. SO I COULD ONLY REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE EVERYTHING THEY FOUND WAS WORKING AND TOO MUCH MONEY AND TIME TO TAKE APART THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAS CONTINUED TO MAKE A TICKING NOISE AS SOON AS I START THE CAR AND WHEN I PRESS THE GAS. THE NOISE HAS GOT LOUDER AND WITH THE WARM WEATHER, WHEN I TURN ON THE AIR THE CAR IS SHAKY.
THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT APPROX 62,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED WITH THE LARGER HYUNDAI/KIA ENGINE RECALL. IT TOOK 2 MONTHS TO GET A NEW ENGINE SINCE THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER.
WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2017 FROM DEALERSHIP. ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE AND LESS THAN 1000 MILES AFTER PURCHASE, AND LESS THAN 64000 MILES TOTAL, THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OIL ISSUES WITH THE CYLINDERS. ADEQUATE OIL WAS IN CAR AND DEALER INSISTED THAT ALL CHECKS HAD BEEN PERFORMED PRIOR TO SALE. I HAVE RECENTLY READ ABOUT RECALLS FOR OTHER KIA AND HYUNDAI VEHICLES DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE PROBLEMS FOR THE SAME REASON. I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE IN HOPE THAT THIS AGENCY WILL CONSIDER INVESTIGATING TO SEE IF THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO HYUNDAI ELANTRAS. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE REPEATING AMONG OTHER VEHICLES MADE BY HYANDAI IN THE SAME TIME FRAME MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE REPAIR THAT WAS PERFORMED BECAUSE NOW THERE ARE ADDITIONAL RECALLS BY HYUNDAI AND KIA FOR THE ENGINE REPAIRS THAT WERE PERFORMED ON THE OTHER RECALLED MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI DID COVER MOST OF COST OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT BUT I WANT TO BE SURE THE REPAIR WAS SAFELY DONE. THERE ARE REPORTS OF ENGINE FIRES RELATED TO HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PIPES AND FUEL LEAKS.
BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT AND HAVE BEEN CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE YEAR. I WAS TOLD IT IS THE ELECTRICAL WIRING ON THE BRAKE LIGHTS.

THE STEERING WHEEL BLOCK, HAS PARTS WHICH BRAKE AND THAT MAKE THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO MANEUVER. THE STEERING COUPLING IS DEFECTIVE IN THIS CAR AND MOST CARS OF THIS BRAND STARTIN ON 2011. DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS, SPEEDS, AND TYPES OF ROADS.
PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HAS BURNED OUT TWICE IN TWO MONTHS.

AT 11:15AM I WAS DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON I-294 MILE MARKER 29 GOING ABOUT 60 MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON THE LEFT. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENGINE LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT, AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD LIT UP, AT THE EXACT SAME TIME MY CAR BEGAN TO SPIN. I BEGAN TO SPIN 360 DEGREES, INTO 2 OF THE RIGHT LANES AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL I BEGAN TO SPIN 3 LANES BACK TO THE LEFT. BY THE TIME I STOPPED SPINNING I HAD SPUN INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE FACING SOUTH. FORTUNATELY THE SPEEDING CARS WERE ABLE TO DODGE HITTING ME AND I ENDED UP IN THE EMERGENCY LANE WITHOUT HITTING THE MEDIAN STRIP OR ANY CARS OR TRUCK. MY CAR APPEARED TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT MY DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE LITE BUT I HAD NOTICED THAT THE HEAT WENT OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD TURNING ON. I HAD NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. I CALLED 911 AND A STATE TROOPER CAME ALONG WITH I-DOT WHO ADVISED ME TO CALL FOR A TOW AND THEY PULLED OFF LEAVING ME IN A DANGEROUS SPOT WITH NO HAZARD LIGHTS IN THE LIGHT DRIZZLE. IT BEGAN TO RAIN AND EVENTUALLY SNOW. AFTER2 HOURS I CALLED *999 TO INFORM THEM THAT I WAS STILL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THAT CARS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE ME DUE TO THE SLEET AND THE SLIGHT FOG IT WAS CREATING. I ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT THE TOW COMPANY DIDN'T WANT TO TOW ME FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I-DOT CAME, TRIED TO JUMP MY CAR, AND THEN LEFT ME TO WAIT FOR THE TOW TRUCK. AFTER A TOTAL 4 HOURS THE TOW TRUCK FINALLY ARRIVED AND TOWED ME TO PEP BOYS. ONCE AT PEP BOYS THEY STATED THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD BUT MY ALTERNATOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND I DROVE HOME 6 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. MY HYUNDAI GAVE ME NO WARNING AND TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I BLESSED TO HAVE ESCAPED DEATH AND A MASSIVE TRUCK AND CAR PILE-UP ON I-294 RIGHT OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON WHEN I TURN THE ENGINE ON. THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT TURNS OF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY.
I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND MY BRAKES FAILED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD YAW SENSOR AND A BAD G SENSOR. I DONT FEEL SAFE IN MY CAR ANYMORE AND HYUNDAI REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

PURCHASED MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAN BECAME HARD TO STEER. LOOKED IN MY OPERATOR'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THIS LIGHT MEANT, IT INSTRUCTED ME TO DISABLE THE ESC BY PUSHING TO ESC OFF BUTTON WHICH I LOCATED AND DID. THIS TURNED THE TROUBLE LIGHT OFF, AND I CONTINUED TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE STILL TO THIS DAY IS HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL AND I HAVE TO KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL. WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A LOUD POPPING SOUND. HAVE SCHEDULED A SERVICE VISIT, BUT THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME A LARGE DIAGNOSTIC FEE JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. HOPE TO HEAR THAT THEY WILL ISSUE A RECALL, BUT PROBABLY NOT UNTIL A LOT OF PEOPLE GET KILLED.

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE ALL OF THE HEADLIGHTS WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE ENTIRE CAR SHIFTS/JUMPS TO THE SIDE. IT IS VERY SCARY, AS I FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO GO INTO SOMEONE ELSE LANE OR LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I AM TOLD IT IS BECAUSE IT HAS A SOLID REAR AXLE, AND THAT IT IS JUST A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THAT DOES NOT SEEM OKAY.... IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, IT DID NOT JUST START HAPPENING.
MY 2013 ELANTRA COUPE SE M/T STARTED MAKEING A TICKING NOISE WHILE ILDING ABOUT 55,500 MILES, IT NOW HAS 59,609 MILES. THOUGHT IT WAS JUST BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING BROKE IN. I HAVE HAD REG OIL CHANGES. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP TODAY BECAUSE IT HAD THIS HORRIBLE TICKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. I FOUND OUT A NEED A NEW ENGINE
WHILE DRIVING ON BELTWAY DOING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE AND ALSO MAKES SOUNDS WHEN PUSHING ON GAS THE RPM WILL BE MOVING BACK AND FRONT EVEN WHEN CAR NOT MOVING. CAR SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING. THE CAR WILL START TO SLOW DOWN AND SHUT IT SELF OFF.ALL LIGHTS WILL TURN ON THEN I SHUT CAR OFF COMPLETELY THEN TURN BACK ON AND IT STARTS UP LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THEN WHEN SITTING STILL AT A LIGHT THE CAR SHUT OFF.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START VEHICLE THE "P" DOES NOT SHOW IN THE INFORMATION PANEL AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. VIGOROUS SHAKING OF THE GEAR SELECTOR SOMETIMES ALLOWS THE "P" TO ILLUMINATE AND THEN THE CAR WILL START. THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION AND HAS BEEN PARKED IN GARAGE. THIS STARTED IN OCTOBER AND HAPPENS MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY.
DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, UPON APPROACHING A SLIGHT RIGHT-HAND CORNER, THE STEERING DID NOT RESPOND. THE CAR DRIFTED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND FINALLY INTO THE MEDIAN, CAUSING A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN A LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND LIKE A GUNSHOT OCCURRED. THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY, I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN HIT, ALTHOUGH NOTHING HAD BEEN CLOSE TO ME. WHEN I REALIZED I WAS STILL DRIVING ON ALL FOUR TIRES AND NOT FLIPPING END FOR END, THOUGH THE WHEEL WAS STILL VIBRATING VIOLENTLY, I FELT GLASS RAINING DOWN ON MY HEAD AND THERE WAS EXTENSIVE AIR NOISE. I LOOKED UP AND ALMOST ALL THE ENTIRE PANORAMIC SUNROOF WAS GONE, AND WHAT WAS LEFT WAS FALLING ON MY HEAD. THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH, THERE WAS NO OVERPASS NEAR, AND NO CARS WERE IN MY IMMEDIATE VICINITY. I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP.

WHEN I REALIZED I WAS STILL GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ON ALL 4 TIRES AND NOT FLIPPING END FOR END AND HAD NOT BEEN HIT, IT DAWNED ON ME THAT AIR WAS RUSHING INTO THE CAR AND GLASS WAS RAINING DOWN ON MY HEAD. I LOOKED UP AND ALMOST THE ENTIRE SUN ROOF WAS GONE. IT HAS LITERALLY EXPLODED. I TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE OF A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN. HOW SCARY IS THAT? I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH GLASS IN THE CAR EVERY SINCE.
