When taking a right turn onto a main road the car surged up to 7000rpms at at least 5mph, with no warning. Next morning taking it to work until hyundai was opened it shifted odd and the check engine light came on. On lunch taking it to hyundai the car would no longer reverse and needing pushed. After 3 weeks hyundai said gear 1 and 5 was incorrect, slipping all gears. The new transmission they put in was delayed when shifting and would continue to reverse after switching from reverse to drive then hard shift forward. It is currently getting a third transmission.
paint is continue to peel off of my hood and it looks horrible. I am a good driver I didn’t cause this. It’s a random spot on hood
Had a car accident, airbags did not deploy but the airbag light was on. Insurance inspector said they inflated but did not come out of their housing. The airbags did not deploy upon impact. I attached pictures of the accident to show the airbags did not deploy.

Heater and defrost does not work. I was unable to see out windshield. I took it for repair at dealership under warranty. They replaced a thermostat and there was no heat or defrost after. It is dangerous to drive in winter. My passenger seatbelt alarm goes off when the seat is empty. I have to pull over to lock the seatbelt to make it stop. Dealership states cannot duplicate. I have several videos of it happening.
My door lock was busted and my car was broken into. Then my ignition was busted in an attempted theft. These cars are easily broken into yet nothing is being done to fix it! I have paid over $800 to fix something that should not have even been an issue. Hyundai and Kia have faulty locking mechanisms that make them easily broken into and stolen. This is ridiculous! They should have put out a recall and fixed this issue. This is a 2018 and I’m still making payments. I was never informed that this is an issue with these cars or I never would have bought it. It took over a month to get my car fixed and now I’m worried to death that someone will try and steal it again. I want some kind of fix to keep my car from being so easily stolen.

While driving at low speed (25mph) I could hear a sound coming from one of my tires that sounded like I had rolled over a large piece of tape. I slowed the car and it sounded like something was stuck on a tire. I pulled over and found nothing when I examined all 4 tires. In the morning I checked the tires and tire pressure was good on all 4. Drove to work and I could hear the fapping sound. As I was driving 55mph, the drivers rear tire blew apart into small 2" square pieces. The tire fragments tore through the fender-well, destroying it as well. This happened early in the morning and I was able to keep control of the vehicle. Westlake RP18 size 195/65/R15. Less than 6 months old and under 15,000 miles on them.
On 10/29/2021 I was driving approx 40 miles per hour when my car engine shut off with no warning and almost caused an accident with my kids in the car. I had it towed to hyundai after the care refused to restart. No check engine light anything. Was told my engine failed by the dealership I have 72000 miles on the car. This whole incident has been a nightmare

2018 White Hyundai Elantra. 9/21/2021 We first noticed the paint was peeling. The car had 39k miles on it. We proceeded to notify the dealership and they said it wasn’t covered. Over the last few months entire chunks of paint have been coming off of the hood and roof. We have multiple estimates and they all require the car to be fully repainted.
Out of curiosity, after searching up my current car I pulled a vehicle report from a NMVTIS approved site for my former car listed above. Upon searching up the vehicle history i learned i was a victim of odometer fraud. The miles listed for the owner of the car before me was 63,000 miles. However, when I purchased the car it was somehow listed as 20,518 miles. I am listed as title 4 and I registered the car in Atlanta, Georgia. I will attach the report below. I purchased this vehicle in September of 2021 from Efrid Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership in Florence, South Carolina.

This vehicle was so easy to steal 4 kids stole it and crashed it in a 45 minute span.
It appears the parking lamps stay on when car turned off while headlights are in AUTO. This leads to unintended battery drain leading to unoperational car. Per Owner's Guide: The system automatically turns off the parking lamp when the key is removed (remote key) or when the driver turns the engine off (smart key) and opens the driver-side door. This does not meet the Owner's Guide's language. Dealerships and inspection services did not confirm/reproduce this. There are no warning lights or indicators of this.
When I first purchase the car It was stated that i had no issues, I have records stating this. Also, I was having tremendous issues with the tires. Four months later I encountered an car accident. I was getting off of an exit and as I was getting off there was a car in the middle of the street that was broken down with no hazardous lights on. I suspected that the car was moving but it was not. As I am braking I was somewhat too close to the car and I ended up hitting the back of the car. At this time, the air bags did not deploy. Once the car was evaluated by the insurance company the car was considered totaled. The insurance company took the car to a salvage. This could have taken my life.

My multifunction switch appears to be defective. I have taken it to 2 different dealerships to be looked at. They have been unable to replicate any issues either time. Occasionally at night time the headlights will randomly turn off. This happened in auto mode as well as when it was pouring down rain and the wipers were on. The headlight indicator on the dash stays lit but the lights themselves turn off. This also happened driving to work in the early morning. When it is cold outside and also randomly the left signal indication doesn’t work in the lane changing function. I sometimes have to hit it 3-4 times before it decides to come on. Neither dealership I have used knows what is happening with the vehicle and I am not keen to spend $600 to have it fixed if it’s not going to 100% fix the issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of fuel. The contact stated that there was no evidence of a fuel leak nor an abnormal fuel odor. The contact compared the fuel consumption to a previous vehicle owned that was the same year, make, and model. The contact needed to add $10-20 daily whenever the fuel gauge showed a half tank of gasoline. The contact's one-way trip from her residence to work was 35.3 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was test-driven for 7 miles and it was confirmed that the fuel gauge was providing inaccurate fuel readings. The dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle back when the fuel gauge was empty to be able to have a code reading. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was also no code appearing on the code reader however, there was a powertrain failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,302.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR IT JUST STOPS. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR 1 YEAR AND THEY KEEP TURNING ME AWAY. MY BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THAT IS IT. I WAS TOLD I WAS EXAGGERATING THAT THIS WAS NOT HAPPENING. YESTERDAY WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER TIMES IT STOPPED. MY CAR STOPPED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND I ALMOST RAN OFF THE SIDE OF THE RODE A CLIFF BECAUSE THE WHEEL AND BRAKES LOCKED UP. NO ONE IS TAKING THIS SERIOUS. AS I AM DRIVING THE CAR WILL JUST SHUT OFF. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME TO DRIVE EVEN FURTHER TO GET IT FIXED. HOW IS THIS SAFE? I WAS TOLD BY RICH ITS MY CAR I OWN IT ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM.

Engine would randomly idle mild to very rough when started and would sometimes correct and sometimes not correct while driving. This would turn on the check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 4. All ignition coils were replaced, and same code would happen. Hyundai was aware of this being a widespread issue and did a software update (Tech Bulletin 90C042R1). The problem continued, but seemed the check engine light would not come on as soon as before the software upgrade. Took back to dealership and they said the ignition coils would need to be Hyundai brand, change cylinder 4 to OEM and still having the issue. Engine also burns about 1 quart of oil every 7000 miles and often has a rough idle, with very rough idle periodically. I feel this would put myself and others on the road in danger if the engine were to fail while driving due to the ongoing damage rough idling appears to be causing to the engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. While driving and turning the steering wheel was firm. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The driver added oil to the engine. There was an abnormal sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and informed them to schedule an appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
The white paint on the vehicle is peeling and bubbling in various areas of the vehicle around the hood, fender and roof
While driving the vehicle this past January, I experienced a brief “clunking” noise in the engine, and the car stalled. The check engine came on briefly and then disappeared. The code identified was a “faulty crankshaft” code. I made an appointment with the dealership to take it in to be inspected, but later that day my son was driving to pick me up from work and the vehicle literally died in the middle of an intersection. No warning, all lights came on in the vehicle, the electrical system terminated, and the vehicle died. I had to have it towed to the nearest garage, which was a Pep Boys, and they diagnosed the problem as an alternator and battery, serpentine also. So. 1300 dollars worth of work later…. Turns out the car has an engine issue.
THE PAINT ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR HAS STARTED TO BUBBLE-UP, CRACK AND PEEL OFF. THERE IS NO DAMAGE FROM ANYTHING THAT HAS HIT THE HOOD AND THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WASHED WITH HIGH PRESSURE.
MY 2018 ELENTRA VALUE EDITION STARTED KNOCKING IN AUGUST OF 2018. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN CHILLICOTHE OH AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS FINE TO DRIVE AND TO BRING IT IN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THEY SAID I SHOULD PLAN TO WAIT WHILE THEY LOOKED AT IT AND THAT I WOULD BE DRIVING IT HOME THAT DAY.. I DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES AND THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD NOISE AND DIED. THEY NEVER TOLD ME WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE BUT THERE WAS OIL AND CHUNKS OF ALUMINUM ALL OVER THE ROAD. THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE CAR HAD 33,000 MILES AT THAT TIME. THEN ON DECEMBER 23 OF 2020 MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING THE SAME EXACT NOISE. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY WITH 144,000 MILES ON IT. I REMOVED THE OIL PAN TO FIND THE PROBLEM. IT WAS THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER. THE CONNECTING ROD BEARING WAS BAD. I CLEANED THE JOURNAL ON THE CRANKSHAFT AND MEASURED IT WITH PLASTIGAUGE. IT WAS 0.001" OVER THE TOLERANCE. I INSTALLED NEW BEARING ON ALL FOUR RODS IN HOPES THAT 0.001" OUT OF TOLERANCE WOULDN'T BE TO MUCH. EVERY BEARING ON THE ROD SIDE WAS WORN OUT AND THE COATING GONE. THE BEARINGS ON THE BOTTOM "CAP" SIDE WERE IN DECENT SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER WHICH WAS DESTROYED. AFTER THE ENGINE HAD STARTED AND I HAD DROVE FOR AROUND 5 MILES IT STARTED KNOCKING AGAIN. THE JOURNAL ON THE CRANKSHAFT IS TO WORN FOR THE BEARING TO WORK. I HAVE AN ENGINE ORDERED AND I AM REPLACING IT MYSELF. I HAVE SEVERAL YEARS OF SCHOOLING IN AUTO MECHANICS AND HAVE GROWN UP IN A GARAGE, I UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE AND NEVER MISSED ANY ON MY CAR. IT HAD EVERY OIL CHANGE WITH SYNTHETIC OIL, OIL FILTER CHANGED EVERY TIME, FLUID LEVELS WERE CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS AS WAS THE AIR FILTER. THE CAR ISN'T DRIVEN HARD, THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE ISSUES I'VE HAD OTHER THEN DEFECTIVE PARTS OR DESIGN OF THE ENGINE IN THIS CAR.

White paint peeling in less than 3 years of ownership. Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg said they would put in a claim, but they have been non-responsive after saying they would put in a claim. No action from the dealership. The manufacturer, Hyundai, who painted the car, has also not taken any action, and have deferred the problem to the dealership. The paint should have been covered under warranty.

2018 HYUNDAI ELANTRA: THE CAR ONLY HAS 21K BUT THE RADIATOR HOSE CLAMP CRACKED AND THE HOSE BURST OPEN. THE CAR'S ENGINE OVERHEATED CAUSING IT TO BE INOPERABLE. HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE DENIES ANY FAULTY/MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AS WELL NO REPORTED CASES WITH THIS MODEL AND MAKE. THIS SHOULD FURTHER BE LOOKED INTO AS IT MAY CAUSE SIGNIFICANT DISTRESS FOR THE OWNER AS WELL AS ENDANGERING LIVES. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DRIVING ON A FREEWAY UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACCEPT LIABILITY, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE REQUIRED TO UNDER THEIR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, STATING THE VEHICLE MUST BE SENT TO THEIR DEALERSHIP ONLY.
DRIVING NORMALLY AT 35MPG AND THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THE LEFT REAR TIRE STARTED BLINKING EVEN THOUGH THE PSI IN ALL TIRES NUMBERS WERE THE SAME AND NORMAL ON ALL FOUR TIRES... CHECKED PRESSURE TO MAKE SURE IN ALL TIRES AND STILL KEEPS BLINKING ALONG WITH THE SERVICE LIGHT STILL ON.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING 65-68MPH ON NJ GARDEN STATE PARKWAY WHEN REAR BUMPER FELL OFF. NOTHING TOUCHED THE VEHICLE (NO COLLISION). ROAD WAS STEADY (NO POTHOLES).
I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPEN,I JUST GOT A NOTICE AND MY LYFT ACCOUNT IS CLOSED NOW
I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR AND WHEN I DID IT EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH WAS LIT UP AND THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK IN PARK. IT HAPPENED ABOUT TWO WEEKS PRIOR AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES AND IT WORKED BUT THIS TIME IT DIDN'T SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME HE USED SOME SORT OF TOLL HE HAD TO UNLOCK THE GEAR SHIFT WHICH ALLOWED IT TO BE DRIVEABLE. OF COURSE WHEN THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE BUT THEY FOUND THAT THE IGNITION COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND DID SO.
Paint fell off from the vehicle's body, specifically from the front of hood cover and the roof in large patches for no reason. After doing some research, I found I am not thr only one experiecing this problem, this actually has been a wide spread know issue among the 2017 - 2018 Hyundai Elantra models. Although it does not pose any immediate risk, the potential safety threat is obvious due to the rusting bodies caused by the paint patches fallen off. The manufacturer only provided an extended body warranty from 3 years to 5 years, though, without notifying the imapcted customers. Quite a lot of customers like myself were not aware of such as warranty extention until now and could not get the issue fixed within the warranty period. The issue is so wide spread and the quality of the painting is so poor, the manufacturer should not get away just providing such a program quietly. A recall to address this issue for all the impacted vehicles is a must.
Paint is peeling from hood and top of car and continues to spread. This has been happening for the past 2 years
ON JUNE 29,2020 MY 2018 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH ONLY 40,000 HAD A ENGINE FIRE AND TOTALED MY ENTIRE CAR THAT WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF INSIDE OF MY GARAGE
ENGINEERS SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN SPEEDS AT OR OVER 65 IN FWY STEERING WHEEL BECOMES UNSTABLE WHEELS START VEERS OFF ROAD, HAVE TO HOLD TIGHT GRIP ONTO STEERING WHEEL. WHEN BRAKING AT SUDDEN STOPS WHEN BRAKE THE CAR SKIDS. VERY SCARY SITUATIONS. CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY AND SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN. *TR
IN NOVEMBER 2018, I TURNED ON MY CAR, AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. I TURNED IT BACK OFF, THEN ON. IT SHOOK AGAIN, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LINE WAS ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID SINCE THE LIGHT WASN'T FLASHING, I COULD DRIVE IT OVER. TURNED IT ON, NO ISSUES, DROVE OVER. THEY READ THE CODE AND REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL. MILEAGE WAS 12,884. THIS MORNING (MAY 2), THE CAR TRIED TO TURN ON, BUT COULDN'T (LIKE A DYING BATTERY). OIL, ENGINE, AND BATTERY LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TRIED AGAIN, SAME ISSUE. THE THIRD TIME, IT FINALLY STARTED, BUT SHOOK VIOLENTLY FOR A COUPLE SECONDS. NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. CALLED THE DEALER, THEY SAID TO DRIVE IT OVER. THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND SAID IT CAN'T POSSIBLY BE THE IGNITION COIL, AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS JUST OVER 15,000 MILES. ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP PER THE SCHEDULE. I USED THE CAR THE EVENING OF MAY 1 WITH NO ISSUES, AS WELL AS FOR A 45 MINUTE DRIVE ON APRIL 29, SO, I DON'T BELIEVE IT'S THE BATTERY, EITHER. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL OF CAR. I AM AFRAID IT WILL BREAK DOWN SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN MY DRIVEWAY AND LEAVE ME STRANDED OR IN DANGER, SUCH AS AT AN INTERSECTION.
