There are 11 owner-reported engine complaints for the 2023 Hyundai Palisadein NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The first time this happened I was at a light waiting for it to turn green. My car went into a shutdown mode and gave me a message of " Auto Stop is Off. Shift to P or N Start Engine Manually". I tried repeatedly to restart the car after putting it into park, but it wouldn't respond. Finally, after 5 minutes of sitting blocking traffic, the engine started, and I drove away. This has now been happening off and on for 3 days. I cannot be stranded in a 50 mile an hour zone blocking traffic. It's an accident waiting to happen. After doing some research online I discovered this has been happening to Hyundai vehicles of different models for over 8 years! Why has Hyundai not recalled this? I think it's a manipulation to force you into one of their shops. I contacted several Hyundai dealerships to speak with someone who knows of this issue. One service manager told me it sounds like it needs a computer update. I ask the cost, and he said $260 and that does not guarantee it will fix the problem.
In Snow Mode, I was at a complete stop and then pushed on the gas pedal to go, the car did not accelerate. I pumped the pedal, still nothing. The car moved slowly like it was in neutral, but would not accelerate. I was trying to turn left at an intersection, it was very scary. I could have gotten rear ended or T-boned. The car finally moved when I changed the driving mode to Smart Mode. The exact scenario has happened several times to me and my husband when driving in snow mode. It happens from a full stop.
Pushing start button vehicle would crank but engine would not start. Had to turn off and restart. No check engine light. I have recently learned that this is happening to other Palisade owners with 23 and 24 model year.
When starting the vehicle, the engine will not fully start, it will turn over as if it’s out of gas. Canceling the start process, then retrying usually results in a running engine. As of October 5’th, my vehicle is not currently you on the fuel pump recall, but this issues seems like a fuel pump issue.
When startin ghte engine of my new 2023 at any temp below 40 degrees there is a loud squeal. Dealer claimed it was the Serpentine belt pre-tensioner. It was not. Many Many Telluride and Palasadie owners have this issue on the forums. Persists every single cold start below 40 for about 10 seconds.
While driving, the engine suddenly turned off on its own showing a safety alert on dashboard "Engine is off. Shift to P or N." I had to pull the vehicle over with coasting for safety, stop the vehicle, and start the engine again.
Oil leakage after 1 week oil change. Per dealer, oil filter housing broke and leaking. This was first oil change on 5335 miles. Search on internet, found to have more 2022-2023 hyundai Palisade with similar problem. Seriously concern and afraid of over heating engine with no oil ultimately resulting in fire.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Amit- when i press gas pedal at initial pickup the car bumps hard 3-4 times then proceeds fine once it picks up speed. This happens after every few days and then stops for few days and again comes up. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Chances of rear collision as car bumps and does not pickup speed. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It was not reproducible when i visited dealer but its added in notes of service. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning messages or lights on dash.
On September 21, 2022 I had sat in my car for about 8 minutes idling with the key FOB in the car with me. I have as not on remote start. When I left the parking lot and drove a half a mile my engine shut off and a loud beep and red triangle warning came on that read engine failure and to start engine. I pressed the start button and drove about 500 feet and got the same warning and shift off engine. Once again, I pressed the start button and drove about 300 feet to pull out and f traffic. I parked and shut f the car and sat for about 2 minutes. When we started the car and drove I have not had another incident but am too afraid to drive far. I text my salesman at Mike Morgan Hyundai in Shreveport to tell him what happened. I was told to have it towed next time it happens
Within the first month after the purchase in late August 2022, the car would shake when turning onto road. Depressing the gas peddle did nothing. The speedometer would not go over 20 mph, but the car was not moving, only coasting. The RPM would jump to over 3000 RPM. Again, the car is not moving, only coasting. There was no engine noise, only the sound of the gas pedal hitting the floor. Subsequent pumps of the gas peddle did nothing, but about 20-30 seconds of this behavior, the car would start to kick into Drive. There were no instrument panel alarms, warnings, or lights. By October 2022, the problem occurred every time I drove the car first thing after it had been off for several hours. For the rest of Fall, Winter, and Spring with temperatures under 30 degrees, this problem would occur. I have to use one of 2 highways to leave my home. Both highways were dangerous for this problem. I had to wait for no traffic as far as I could see, but with coasting speeds and no control, it didn't take long for traffic to catch up. In some cases, after a turn onto a highway or 2-lane busy street, there was no where to coast off the road. I used hazard lights a lot, but it was clear that the danger was significant. The third cold weather season is coming soon. The problem will most certainly occur has it has every year since we purchased it. The problem seems to occur at intersections where this is a greater than 5% grade. It does not occur on a flat grade. The dealer tells us that unless their diagnostic equipment from Hyundai USA cannot detect a problem, then they cannot do a repair. Even though the technicians witnessed the problem away from the dealership, they cannot make it fail at the dealership. They want to keep the car for days or weeks, but we've been through this and I turned them down. Hyundai USA keeps telling me to file a claim, which I did. To date, I have not received any further correspondence since I filed it.
While driving on the highway, a safety alert appeared saying, “Engine is off. Shift to P or N.” The car then turned off on its own, and had to be restarted. The “start/stop” ignition button, nor the shift buttons, were pressed before the alert went off. Essentially, the engine stalled and the car stopped on its own while driving.
