TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER ORDERED A FUSE BOX, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THEY ORDERED THE SAME PART AGAIN, BUT THE LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. HE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THE AIR BAG HAS NOT YET DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 6,000. UPDATED 11/14/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION IN THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE ERUPTED FROM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND INSTRUMENT PANEL. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, BUT THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR FLAMES. THE WINDSHIELD WAS DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETECT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. 2007 HYUNDAI SANTE-FE PURCHASED NEW FROM PLAZA HYUNDAI, LTD, 2740 NOSTRAND AVENUE IN 2006, ON OCTOBER 3, 2007 WHILE SITTING IN VEHICLE I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD AND THEN THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO PLAZA HYUNDAI, THEY INSISTED THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK AND SAID I SHOULD CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY WHICH I DID, THEIR INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A "DEFECTIVE WIRING IN THE DEFROSTER CAUSED A FIRE WHICH RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD." THIS REPORT WAS GIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND STILL THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. DUE TO SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PURSUE THIS ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN STORAGE. I HAVE RESUMED MY ATTEMPTS TO GET HYUNDAI TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES AND FIX THE FAULTY WIRING, AS OF 2/22/10 THEY STILL REFUSE TO EVEN INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE AND I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. I PAID OVER $30,000 FOR THE VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE IT. *TR
THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR LOCATED IN THE SEAT DOES NOT CORRECTLY CLASSIFY MY WIFE (130 LBS.) AS AN ADULT. AS A RESULT, THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG AND PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS ARE NOT CONSISTENTLY ACTIVATED. THE "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" INDICATOR LIGHT LOCATED ON THE DASH IS ON AT LEAST 30% OR MORE OF THE TIME OF TRAVEL. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT DEPENDABLE IN THE EVENT OF A FRONT OR SIDE IMPACT. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHEN THE SYSTEM WILL BE ACTIVATED AND PROTECTING MY WIFE. SHE WEIGHS 130 POUNDS IN BODY WEIGHT. I BELIEVE THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT IS POORLY DESIGNED AND ULTIMATELY UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE. *TR
MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF ALL WHILE RIDING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A PASSENGER OVER 80 LBS RIDING IN THE SEAT. ON AN AVERAGE TRIP OF 30 MINS THE LIGHT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON AND STAY ON OR WILL COME AND GO INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. WE ALSO HAVE A 2007 ACCENT THAT IS DOING THE SAME THING JUST NOT AS OFTEN. THE DEALERSHIP HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A LOANER CAR FOR FOUR WEEKS NOW BECAUSE THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY LOANER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL CASES OF THIS HAPPENING OUT THERE AND HYUNDAI DOESN'T SEEM TO BE FIXING THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THAT LIGHT IS ON THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT IN FACT DEPLOY. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERYTIME WE GET IN THE CAR TO GO SOMEWHERE SO THERE ARE TOO MANY FAILURES TO LIST. I FEEL IT TO BE VERY UNSAFE TO PLACE ANYONE IN THE FRONT SEAT DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
NO FRONT DOME LIGHT, WITHOUT MANUAL ACTIVATION. WHAT DOES EXIST IS BARELY ADEQUATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTE FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE OCCUPANT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT MUST WEIGH 110 POUNDS OR MORE IN ORDER FOR THE AIR BAG TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE FOR A SMALL STATURED PERSON, THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT ENGAGE IF NEEDED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS TO ADJUST TO A PERSON'S WEIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED IF ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL IN HIS SPECIFIC YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR EITHER FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,688.
CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO DISENGAGE WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. *TR
PURCHASED A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE IN FEB/07. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY TURNS ON (AIRBAG IS INACTIVATED) AND OFF (NO LIGHT MEANS AIRBAG ACTIVATED) WHEN MY 5'6" 120LBS WIFE SITS IN THE SEAT. ALL POSITIONAL SUGGESTIONS IN THE MANUAL (SITTING STRAIGHT UP, FEET FLAT ON THE FLOOR, ETC) HAVE BEEN ADHERED TO WITH THE SAME INTERMITTENT RESULT. I WOULD HAZARD A GUESS AND SAY THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF 75% OF THE TIME WHEN SHE SITS IN THE SEAT. THE ONLY SUGGESTION WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE DEALERSHIP IS TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR
THE SUN VISORS ON MY 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE FELL OFF. THE PASSENGER SIDE FELL OFF ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND HUNG BY WIRES UNTIL IT BROKE OFF. THE DRIVER SIDE FELL OFF WITHOUT FORCE AND WOULDN'T STAY UP WHILE DRIVING MAKING DRIVING EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. I HAD TO HOLD THE VISOR UP WITH MY HEAD WHILE DRIVING TO SEE TO DRIVE. *KB

I HAVE A HYUNDAI SANTA FE. I HAVE HAD THREE MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND ONE SMALL COSMETIC ISSURE. THE MAJOR ISSUES HAVE BEEN WITH THE STRUCTURE OF THE CAR, THE WHEEL AXEL, THE ALIGNMENT, AND THE ENGINE BLOCK. ALL OF THESE ITEMS HAVE EITHER BEEN LOOSE, BROKEN, OR DEFECTIVE. YES, THEY KEEP FIXING THE CAR, BUT IT'S A NEW CAR. IF I WANTED A CAR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED WEEKLY I WOULD HAVE KEPT OR PURCHASED AN USED CAR. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY RIDING IN THIS CAR. WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY SO FAR THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CATCH THESE DEFECTS BEFORE WE'VE GOTTEN INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
DRIVING I-75 SOUTH IN GEORGIA, SUNDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 10, 2007, THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING, TRAVELING TO JACKSONVILLE, FL. CALLING FROM THE HIGHWAY ON A CELL PHONE TO THE DEALERSHIP, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CALL THE HYUNDAI ASSISTANCE 800 NUMBER. UPON CONNECTION WAS GIVEN THE NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS OF TWO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS IN JACKSONVILLE, FL. ON MONDAY, JUNE 11 AM, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO KEY BUICK, HYUNDAY IN JACKSONVILLE FOR SERVICE. SEVERAL HOURS LATER, WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE AC CONDENSER WAS DAMAGED AND NOT A WARRANTY ITEM, THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT $750. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, WAS SOME ITEM DAMAGED THE CONDENSER AND USING HIS WORDS "PROBABLY ROAD DEBRIS" PASSING THROUGH THE GRILL. HE CONTINUED THE EXPLANATION THAT THERE ARE NOT BARRIERS THAT WOULD PREVENT SMALL ITEMS FROM PASSING THROUGH THE GRILL AND DAMAGING THE CONDENSER AND RADIATOR WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAYS. ASKING THE SERVICE MANAGER IF THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, HE REPLIED YES. THE FAILURE OF HYUNDAI TO FORESEE, DESIGN AND PROVIDE ANY TYPE OF SCREEN BARRIER BEHIND THE GRILL ALLOWS ANY TYPE OF DEBRIS TO CAUSE HARM TO THE CONDENSER OR RADIATOR AT ANY TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON JUNE 14 BY KEY BUICK HYUNDAI IN JACKSONVILLE, FL. I OFFER A SOLUTION THAT A SMALL AMOUNT OF HARDWARE CLOTH ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE GRILL WOULD DEFLECT MOST ALL DEBRIS AND PROTECT THE CONDENSER AND RADIATOR FROM DAMAGE WHILE STILL ALLOWING AMPLE AIR FLOW. HARDLY A HAPPY TRAVELING PERIOD WITH 3 DAYS OF NEGOTIATING WITH TWO DEALERSHIPS RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN DULUTH, GA. & KEY BUICK HYUNDAI IN JACKSONVILLE, NO VEHICLE AVAILABILITY AND FRUSTRATING EXPENSES. *AK
PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) IMPROPERLY CLASSIFIES ADULTS AS CHILDREN AND DISABLES AIR BAG WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED. *TR

THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODES FOR THE AIR BAG AND REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT TWICE. THE AIR BAG MODULE WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,750.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN A 150 LBS. OCCUPANT IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG SENSOR STATES THAT THE AIR BAG IS INOPERATIVE. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT PROPERLY DEPLOY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE THE FIRST TIME. DURING THE SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALER, THE FAILURE WAS DUPLICATED; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
1/26/07-TOOK CAR IN FOR 3,000 MILE SERVICE ACTUAL MILEAGE WAS 3,154. 4/4/07- TOOK CAR IN FOR AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASH. TECHNICIAN CLEARED ALL FAILED CODES- RECHECKED CODES TO FIND ALL OKAY. MILEAGE WAS 6,138. *AK 4/6/07- AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASH IS COMING ON AGAIN. 4/12/07- TAKE CAR BACK TO DEALER TO CORRECT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 3 DAYS WHILE THEY ORDERED AND REPLACE THE MODULE ASSY-AIR B. I AGAIN INDICTAED MY CONERN ON SAFETY OF BAGS DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT. MILEAGE WAS 6,391. 5/12/07 '' AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. 5/14/07 '' CONTACT DEALER TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE ON AIRBAG SYSTEM. 5/16/07- TAKE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT 8:00AM. DEALER IS ORDERING A DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG UNIT. THEY INDICATE THAT THIS WILL BE IN THE WEEK ON 5/21/07. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER (STEVE MOUNTES) ABOUT MY DISPLEASURE ON THIS ISSUE AND MY SAFETY CONCERNS. STEVE DID INDICATE THAT WITH THIS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY. I AGAIN STRESSED MY CONCERN ON THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO DISCUSSED MY DISPLEASURE THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER CAR FOR TODAY''S SERVICE. STEVE INDICATED THAT A LOANER WOULD BE PROVIDED WHEN I BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG REPLACED SCHEDULED FOR THE WEEK OF 5/21/07. SERVICE TIME WAS ONE HOUR. 5/16/07- FILED AN ELECTRONIC COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA.
I OWN A 07 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. EVER SINCE I BOUGH THE CAR IN OCTOBER I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR. WHEN I SIT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE THE AIR BAG SENSOR EITHER DOES NOT SENSE MY WEIGHT AND TURNS THE AIR BAG OFF OR IT ACTUALLY TURNS THE AIR BAG ON, BUT IT FLUCTUATES BETWEEN ON AND OFF. I HAVE READ THE MANUAL, AND I AM SITTING PROPERLY ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI INSTRUCTIONS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER, AND THE BEST THEY COULD TELL ME WAS SIT IN THE BACK MAM. HOWEVER I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A REASONABLE RESPONSE. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, AND I FEE THE AIR BAG OR SENSOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY , AND THIS IS UNSAFE. ONE OF THE REASONS I BOUGH THIS CAR WAS THE SAFETY FEATURES, AND IT IS DISAPOINTING THAT THOSE FEATURES DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, AND YET HYUNDAI WILL NOT FIX IT. UPDATE FOR MY 2007 SANTA FE STEERING, PULLING. I WENT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU THE REPORT CAME BACK THERE IS A NORMAL PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE TOLD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT AFFECTS THE TIRES WEARING OUT SOONER THAN THE TIRE MANUFACTURES STATES. THERE IS A HEAVY PULL WHEN YOU ACCELERATE HARD AT ABOUT 40 MPH. IS THIS NORMAL? THE WHEEL REALLY TURNS THE WHEEL TO A HALF A TURN TO THE RIGHT. OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE WHEEL BUT YOU FEEL IT PULLING. WHEN YOU TEST THE PULLING ON A SAFE AREA LET LOOSE OF THE WHEEL A LITTLE THEN YOU'LL FEEL IT MOVE. I'M AFRAID WHEN YOU TAP THE GAS PEDAL A LITTLE ON THE DAYS IT SNOWS; DO YOU PASS OR NOT PASS ,ANYONE OR WHAT? *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A SOUTHERN DIRECTION I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN IN AN EASTERN DIRECTION, AS I WAS MAKING THE TURN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND SIMILAR TO THE DROPPING OF A HEAVY OBJECT AND IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD THE POWER STEERING ON MY CAR WENT DEAD AND THE RED BATTERY LIGHT IN THE DASH CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I STOPPED. THE RED BATTERY LIGHT WAS STILL ON, I THAN TURNED THE KEY TO TURN THE MOTOR OFF AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN THE RED LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING. AS I WAS CLOSE TO MY HOME, I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME AND PARK THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING AND THE RED BATTERY LIGHT WAS STILL ON. SINCE THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING I AM GOING TO HAVE THE CAR TRANSPORTED TO THE DEALERS SERVICE SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE FIRST TIME THAT I EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING AN INSPECTION WAS MADE BY THE SERVICE MECHANICS OF THE DEALER, AND THEY AFTER KEEPING THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. IF THESE INCIDENTS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE N.J. TURNPIKE I FEEL THAT THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT. *TR
WE HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE AND HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW, BUT THE DEALER WAS NEVER ABLE TO FIX IT. THE 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED WAS DESIGNED WITHOUT A FRONT DOME LIGHT THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE ACTUATED VIA KEYLESS REMOTE OR BY UNLOCKING OR BY OPENING ANY OF THE DOORS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN APPROACHING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT. SUCH DEVICES HAVE BEEN STANDARD EQUIPMENT IN VEHICLES FOR MANY YEARS. WHY HAS HYUNDAI CHOSEN TO FOREGO THIS BASIC SAFETY ITEM? *JB
TL*-THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAS OVER HEAD MAP LIGHTS DON'T FUNCTION AT ALL IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE MAP LIGHTS ONLY WORK IF SHE PRESSES THE MAP LIGHT BUTTON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE AN OVER HEAD LIGHT IN HER VEHICLE WHEN SHE GETS INTO HER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SHE GETS INTO HER VEHICLE EVERY NIGHT AFTER WORK AND IT IS COMPLETELY DARK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH OVERHEAD LIGHTS THAT WORK WHEN YOU OPEN THE VEHICLE DOORS.
WHEN I SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATES "OFF". I WEIGH 130 LBS AND I HAVE READ THE OWNERS MANUAL ON THIS TOPIC. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW I AM POSITIONED IN THE SEAT, THIS FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. I HAVE VISITED MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND CALLED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THEY STATE THAT THE UNIT IS WORKING AS DESIGNED, BUT CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK, IE, WHAT WEIGHT LIMIT SETS THE AIRBAG TO "ON" POSITION. AS A NORMAL SIZED ADULT, I FEEL THAT MY AIRBAG SHOULD BE OPERATIONAL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE HMA TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5 AND 60 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATING INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES AND IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS REPLACED IN JULY 2007, HOWEVER THERE WAS STILL NO CHANGE IN OPERATION. UPDATED 10/24/07. *JB
FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR IS NOT CLASSIFYING MY WIFE CORRECTLY AND DISABLING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN SHE SITS IN THE SEAT. CONTACTED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY SAID THIS IS THE WAY IT WORKS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. (THEY DID CONTACT SOMEONE AT HYUNDAI WHO TOLD THEM THIS) *JB
THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DURING THE NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS ONLY PROVIDED 30 FEET OF ILLUMINATION. AFTER THE 30 FOOT DISTANCE, THERE WAS A DISTINCT SHADOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE ALIGNMENT OF THE HEADLIGHTS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED
I OWN A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE PROBLEM IS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DOES NOT ALWAYS ENABLE WHEN MY USUAL 115 POUND PASSENGER SITS ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHEN A HEAVIER PERSON SITS ON THE SEAT, BUT WHEN MY USUAL PASSENGER (WHO IS MY 75 YEAR OLD WIFE) SITS ON THE SEAT THE AIR BAG SEAT SENSORS DO NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REFERRED ME TO THE MANUAL WHICH DESCRIBES THE PROPER SEATING POSITION. WHEN MY PASSENGER SITS IN EXACTLY IN THAT MANNER, ABOUT 60% OF THE TIME THE SEAT SENSOR ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. APPARENTLY THE SENSORS ARE SET TO TRIGGER AT OR NEAR 115 POUNDS. AND WHAT CLOTHING SHE WEARS DETERMINES IF SHE IS PROTECTED BY THE AIR BAG OR NOT. I ALSO OWN A 2005 HYUNDAI TUCSON, A COMPACT SUV. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM ACTIVATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WHEN MY PASSENGER SITS ON THAT SEAT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE A MATURE ADULT DOES NOT ACTIVATE A PASSENGER AIR BAG. I AM SURE OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. HYUNDAI SHOULD PROVIDE A METHOD FOR CHANGING THE TRIGGER WEIGHT OF THEIR SENSORS. *JB
WHEN MY WIFE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF OUR 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA, SOMETIMES THE LIGHT ON THE DASH IS LIT, INDICATING THE CAR DOES NOT SENSE A PASSENGER IS SITTING THERE. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE JELL PACK UNDER THE SEAT BUT THE PROBLEM IS CONTINUING. MY WIFE IS 5"7" AND WEIGHS 126 LBS. THE DEALER SAID TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT POSTURE. WE DROVE THE CAR TO PENNSYLVANIA AND BACK WITHOUT A PROBLEM. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE, THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED AIR BAG LIGHT FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE FAILURE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BUT NOT THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES WITH OR WITHOUT AN OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE SEAT. THEY REPLACED THE SEAT WITH A NEW ONE, BUT THE FAILURE WAS STILL PRESENT. THE DEALER THEN REINSTALLED THE OLD SEAT, BUT REPLACED THE SEAT MODULE. THIS ALSO DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND NO FURTHER REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000. UPDATED 08/01/08
