DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE/CRACKED AND WILL NOT STAY UP ANYMORE, BLOCKS MY VISION. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WILL NOT TURN OFF. ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI, NOT PART OF A RECALL AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY. SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM TO THESE CARS AND NOTHING IS DONE TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION??? I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP TO BEGIN THE FIGHT THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO BE HAVING. *TR
LIGHTS ACROSS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL NOT GO OFF INCLUDING: ESC OFF, CHECK ENGINE, AIRBAGS AND ABS. THERE IS ALSO A VISIBILITY ISSUE REGARDING THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THESE ARE ALL ISSUES THAT I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING AS WELL AND ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. *TR
I OWN A HYUNDAI SONATA 2006, AND JUST BEFORE IT GOT TO 80,000 MILES, THE AIR BAG LIGHT SUDDENLY WENT ON. IT HAS STAYED ON FOR A WEEK AS OF 9/25/10. I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND IT SEEMS MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE HYUNDAI SONATAS AND IT IS VERY COSTLY TO FIX. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO WITH HYUNDAI, IF IT HAPPENS REPEATEDLY. *TR
1. HYUNDAI SONATA 2006 SUN VISOR DID NOT STAY IN FULLY FOLDED OR EXTENDED POSITION. 2. TRIED TO MOVE SUN VISOR TO FULLY FOLDED POSITION AND HEARD CRACKING SOUNDS AND SUN VISOR JUST HANGS LOOSE (STRAIGHT DOWN) BLOCKING ROAD FIELD OF VISION 3. I USED SHOE STRING TO TIE SUN VISOR TO SAFETY HANDLE ABOVE DOOR TO KEEP IT FROM OBSTRUCTING VIEW OF ROAD. UNFORTUNATELY IF VISOR IS TIED IT IS NOT FREE TO MOVE INTO FULLY EXTENDED POSITION TO SHIELD SUN WHILE DRIVING WHICH IS ALSO A VISIBILITY HAZARD. I REMOVED THE VISOR AND TOOK APART BROKEN HINGE TO FIND CRACK PLASTIC BUSHING AROUND ROD WHICH ALLOWS ROTATION OF SUN VISOR. SINCE THE THIN PLASTIC BUSHING WAS CRACKED/BROKE INTO PIECES THE VISOR DOES NOT HOLD SPECIFIED POSITIONS. AN ONLINE FORUM SHOWS NUMEROUS CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY REPLACE THE SUN VISOR FOR IT TO JUST BREAK AGAIN. THIS PART IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO BUY A NEW PART(~$100) THAT IS MANUFACTURED THE SAME AS THE ONES THAT BREAK EASILY, JUST SO I'LL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER REPLACEMENT SUN VISOR AGAIN. A THIN PLASTIC BUSHING AROUND A METAL ROD THAT IS LOADED FREQUENTLY IS PRONE TO STRESS FRACTURES AND FAILURE. NUMEROUS INCIDENCES OF THIS DEFECT SHOULD PROMPT A NEW DESIGN AND FREE REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR CONSUMERS SINCE THIS IS A DRIVING VISIBILITY HAZARD. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA AND I HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR 2 TIMES THUS FAR. THE FIRST ONE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE 2ND ONE WASN'T. NOW IT HAS BROKE FOR THE 3RD TIME AND IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE IT WILL NOT STAY UP. *TR
BOTH OF MY CAR VISORS HAVE BROKEN OFF. THE FIRST WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS TIME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW THAT HAS THE SAME CAR. IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT POSES A RISK ON THE DRIVERS. THE VISOR STAYS HALF WAY, WHICH AFFECTS THE VISIBILITY OF THE DRIVER. TO BE ABLE TO SEE, YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY MOVE THE VISOR BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING, WHICH CAUSES THE RISK TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT AS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY EIGHT MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS THEN CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
THE AIRBAG DASH LIGHT ON MY 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA STAYS ON. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS DUE TO A FAULT IN THE SEATBELT TENSIONER ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE 'UP' POSITION OR IN THE FULLY EXTENDED POSITION (CLOSEST TO THE WINDSHIELD). THE VISOR BLOCKS MY VISION AND THE PASSENGER'S VISION WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR ALL OF A SUDDEN JUST DROPPED DOWN AND IMPAIRED MY VISION. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND EASILY COULD HAVE LED TO AN ACCIDENT. RE. 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA (CURRENTLY APPROX 71,00 MILES) - WAS PART OF PAST RECALL ON PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYING LIT WHEN PASSENGER IN SEAT. BROUGHT TO DEALER - THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE PROBLEM AT THE TIME. WOULDN'T FIX PROBLEM (REPLACE SEAT) DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO REPLICATE. LIGHT STILL COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHEN PASSENGER IN SEAT. ADDRESSED WITH DEALER AND HYUNDAI CORPORATE - CORPORATE BACKED DEALER. SHORTLY AFTER 60,000 WARRANTY EXPIRED, DRIVERS SIDE VISOR BROKE - FALLS DOWN WHEN DRIVING - SAFETY HAZARD. CALLED DEALER - $45 JUST TO BUY - NOT INSTALLED. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON HERE AND OTHER WEBSITES RE. SAME ISSUE. SHOULD BE PART OF COVERED RECALL. RECENTLY DRIVERS AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING. CAR BATTERY NEEDED REPLACING - THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM - STILL ILLUMINATING AFTER REPLACING BATTERY. CALLED DEALER - MUST PAY DIAGNOSTIC FEE (I BELIEVE $88) JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND THEN REPAIRS WHICH FROM MY UNDERSTANDING CAN BE COSTLY. HAVE ALSO SEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS OF SAME PROBLEM. SHOULD BE SAFETY RECALL ALSO. *TR

2006 HYUNDAI SONATA SUN VISOR. I HAVE HAD THIS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES ON MY CAR. IT WILL CATASTROPHICALLY FAIL WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. LAST TIME WAS IN TRAFFIC ON THE FREE WAY. HAD TO PUT CAR INTO DITCH TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. 4,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY AND HYUNDAI WONT REPLACE. *TR

I OWN A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA THAT IS PLAGUED WITH THE "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT (EVEN WITH MY 120 LB WIFE IN THE SEAT) ALONG WITH THE DASHBOARD "AIR BAG LIGHT THAT JUST TURNED ON YESTERDAY. AS I SEE ON THE INTERNET, THIS YEAR ALONG WITH NEWER MODELS SEEM TO BE PLAGUED WITH THIS PROBLEM. RESPONSE FROM CORPORATE IS, AS USUAL TO THE CONSUMER, IT'S YOUR TOUGH LUCK, BUDDY. RESPONSE FROM DEALERS ARE "OPEN UP YOUR WALLET AND WE'LL PRETEND TO FIX IT". THIS IS A HIDEOUS AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT DESERVES A RECALL OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE. I OWN A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. I BOUGHT IT NEW FROM HENDERSON HYUNDAI IN HENDERSON, NV. MY CAR HAS NOW 73,831 MILES AND I HAVE HAD EVERY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE DONE TO MY CAR BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD IT TO ME. A WEEK AGO THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SO DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SO THEY CAN FIX IT. TO MY SURPRISE THEY SAID I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE WHOLE SEAT, AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1800 TO REPAIR. HE ALSO MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT THE INSULATION IN THE WIRING BEING GONE. MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INTO AN ACCIDENT SO THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR WILL DEPLOY SHOULD I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I TRIED TO MAKE THE DEALERSHIP UNDERSTAND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE HYUNDAI SHOULD FIX SINCE IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS A MATTER OF A FAULTY SYSTEM AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I CAN NOT AFFORD PAYING $1800 FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN NOT EVEN GUARANTEE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. DRIVER VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. OUT OF WARRANTY, AND IS NOW NOT COVERED. WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW ONE. BLOCKS VISION, EITHER SIDE OR FRONT. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE'S DEFECT AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED LONG AGO. I SPOKE WITH A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VIN# WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT HYUNDAI PURPOSELY USE'S CHEAP MATERIAL AND DOES MEDIOCRE WORK AT BEST SO CUSTOMER'S WILL BE FORCED TO COME OUT OF POCKET TO MAKE THERE'S FAT. MY INSPECTION IS DUE AND THERE IS NO WAY I WILL BE ABLE TO PASS. *TR
2006 SONATA. JUST AFTER WARRANTY ENDING 60,000 MILES ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND WON'T GO OFF. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA 3.3. I STARTED MY CAR ONE MORNING AND HAD NO ACCELERATION IN THE GAS PEDDLE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF GOT HUSBAND AND WE RESTARTED IT AND HAD NO PROBLEM. I THEN TOOK A TRIP TO HOUSTON A FEW WEEKS LATER AND AGAIN HAD THE PROBLEM HAPPEN TO ME A FEW TIMES THERE. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO AND HAD TO RETURN HOME. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN HOUSTON AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE A MINIMUM OF $100 DOLLARS OR MORE TO JUST SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. MY HUSBAND SAID TO BRING IT HOME AND WE WILL CHECK ON IT. ON MY TRIP HOME THE ESC OFF LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND I LOST ACCELERATION WHILE IN MOTION ON INTERSTATE 10. THIS HAPPENED TO ME MANY OF TIMES ON THE RETURN TRIP HOME. WHEN IT WENT OUT ON ME, SEVERAL TIMES I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND 3 TIMES NEARLY GOT HIT IN THE REAR AND 1 TIME WAS SERIOUSLY ALMOST RAMMED IN THE REAR WHILE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD LETTING THE CAR REST BEFORE RESTARTING IT. THE MOST TERRIFYING MOMENT WAS GOING OVER THE BRIDGE IN BATON ROUGE, LA. AND THE ESC OFF LIGHT KICKED IN AND I LOST ACCELERATION AND THERE WAS NO SIDE ROAD TO PULL OVER ON. I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT 3 TIMES BEFORE THE ESC OFF LIGHT WENT OFF AND I AGAIN HAD ACCELERATION. THEN ABOUT 20 MILES OUTSIDE OF METAIRIE, LA. WHERE I WAS HEADING, IT STARTED SPUTTERING. THE RPMS WOULD GO DOWN AND THE CAR WOULD PULL BACK, THEN THEY WOULD JUMP UP AND THE CAR WOULD JERK FORWARD. I FINALLY MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION WHAT IS NORMALLY A 4 1/2 HR DRIVE TURNED IN TO A VERY STRESSFUL AND FEARFUL 8 HR DRIVE. I DID LOOK UP ON GOOGLE ABOUT 2006 SONATA'S AND ESC OFF LIGHT AND FOUND MANY OFF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM PUTTING THE CAR IN THE SHOP TOMORROW MORNING. I READ OF A WOMAN HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND HER CAR ACCELERATING ON HER AND PLUNGED INTO A TREE. THIS SOUNDS TO ME A SERIOUS MATTER AND SEEMS IT IS GOING TO BE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO FIX WHEN IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY HYUNDAI. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 SONATA AND WENT TO MOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR TO BLOCK THE SUN TODAY, HEARD A LOUD CRACK, AND THE PLASTIC HOUSING (THAT APPARENTLY HOLDS THE VISOR IN PLACE) AROUND THE METAL BAR CRACKED AND BROKE. I WAS DRIVING WHILE THIS HAPPENED AND NOW IT JUST HANGS THERE IN THE WAY- HOW DANGEROUS! I TRIED GLUING THE BROKEN PIECE BACK ON, BUT IT DIDN'T HELP. NOW I'VE GOT IT VELCROED UP AND CAN'T USE IT! I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR RECENTLY BROKE. MY UNDERSTANDING FROM INFORMATION I RECEIVED FROM THE DEALER AND REPORTS THAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE 2008 SONATA HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE. HYUNDAI SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL AND CORRECT THE APPARENT DEFECT WITH THE SUN VISORS. I HAVE EVEN HEARD OF REPORTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY HAD THEIR VISORS REPLACED THAT THE REPLACEMENTS HAVE ALSO BROKEN. IT MAKES FOR VERY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS BECAUSE WHEN THE VISOR HANGS DOWN, YOUR VISION IS IMPAIRED. EVEN WHEN YOU PUSH IT TO THE SIDE, YOUR VISION IS PARTIALLY BLOCKED. WHAT OTHER RECOURSE DO CONSUMERS HAVE TO ENSURE THE MANUFACTURERS ARE SELLING MERCHANTABILITY GOODS. WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE NO WAY OF INSPECTING THE SUN VISOR MECHANISMS TO KNOW IF THEY ARE WORKING OR WILL WORK PROPERLY WHEN A CAR IS PURCHASED. *TR

2006 HYUNDAI SONATA REAR BRAKES WORN DOWN AT TWICE THE RATE OF THE FRONT BRAKES. WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES, THERE IS CONSTANT SCRAPING NOISE FROM THE REAR BRAKES. WHEN BRAKING, THE NOISE TURNS INTO GRINDING. REPLACED REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS WITH NEW PARTS, AND THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. DEALERSHIP STATED IT IS DUE TO RUST BUILDUP ON THE CALIPERS, BUT COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY NEW PADS AND ROTORS, AND A CLEANED/GREASED CALIPER DID NOT FIX THE NOISE. *TR

THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS LIT AT ALL TIMES. THE DEALER STATES THAT THIS INACTIVATES THE AIR BAG. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR. SHOULDN'T HIS PROMPT A RECALL SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE?

JULY 14, 2010: WHILE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT, I WAS ALERTED BY ANOTHER MOTORIST THAT NONE OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING. AFTER GOOGLING THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED APRIL 14, 2009, NO. 09V122000, REGARDING THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE STOP LAMP SWITCH. HAVING RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALL, I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR ON JULY 31, 2009, WHILE MY CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. THE RESULT WAS THAT THE "STOP LAMP SWITCH HAS CIRCUIT OPEN." THEY REPLACED THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, AND IT SEEMS THAT THE PREVIOUS RECALL "FIX" IS NOT FIXING THE ISSUE. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION AND REMEDY THAT, NOT JUST REPLACE ONE DEFECTIVE STOP LAMP SWITCH WITH ANOTHER. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON EVERY OTHER YEAR. I AM HAVING THIS ISSUED FOR THREE TIME AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME AND THEN THEY PUT NEW SEAT BELT BUCKLE IT GOES AWAY FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN 2010 IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED IN 2012, AND THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED IN 2014. *TR
I HAVE RUST STARTING TO FORM ON THE EXTERIOR DECK LID SEAMS . THE RUST ID NOT SURFACE RUST BUT HAS STARTED TO BUBBLE THE PAINT AT THE SEAMS ABOVE THE LICENSE PLATE AND RUST AT THE SPOT WELDS. THERE IS ALSO THE BEGINNING OF RUST THROUGH ON THE INNER SURFACE OF THE DECK LID. *TR
