TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HINGE ATTACHED TO THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WAS CRACKED AND CAUSED THE VISOR TO REMAIN IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. HAD THE VEHICLE SENT IN TO DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION DO NOT KNOW WHY THE LIGHT KEEPS COMING UP. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL DANGER FOR MY KIDS. *TR
VEHICLE IS NO LONGER ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE DISPLAY SHOWS PARK AND VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE, WHEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL DISPLAY SHOWS REVERSE AND VEHICLE WILL GO IN REVERSE, WHEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE DISPLAY SHOWS NEUTRAL. DRIVE IS COMPLETELY MISSING. *TR
I STARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT. I CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT SAID BRING IT TO THE DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . THE DEALER CHARGED 95.00$ TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM,AND ANOTHER $810 TO CHANGE THE 2 FRONT SEATBELT BUCKLES. THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT .HYUNDAI SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I SEE THAT AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED ON THIS PROBLEM , AND WOULD LIKE TONE INCLUDED IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY AND JUST NEVER WENT OFF. NO ACCIDENTS OR DAMAGE TO THE CAR HAD BEEN DONE PRIOR. WENT TO OTHER MECHANICS AND THEY COULDN'T EVEN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE CODE ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINES WAS. HYUNDAI CHECKED IT AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE PASSENGER BUCKLE CANISTER. THAT'S FINE, BUT 400,000 OF THESE IN THE 06-08 SONATA MODELS HAVE NOW "FAILED" AND AT $100 FOR A DIAGNOSTICS, THEN ANOTHER $250 FOR A BELT BUCKLE REPAIRS, I DON'T SEE HOW THIS COULD BE WEAR AND TEAR IN THE VEHICLE. JUST SEEMS LIKE EASY MONEY FOR HYUNDAI. HOPE THIS GETS RESOLVED SOON. *TR
MY PARENTS WHO ARE ELDERLY HAVE A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA, THEY TOOK CARE IF THE RECALL WHERE A DEALER TOOK OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT, SENT IT TO CALIFORNIA KEPT IT FOR WEEKS...THEN NOT LONG AFTER PUTTING THE SEAT BACK IN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, AT FIRST IT WAS ON AND OFF, NOW IT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME... DEALER REFUSES TO HELP THEM, WE ARE NOT EVEN SURE IF THE AIR BAG WORKS OR NOT, AND DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT IT DOESN'T AFTER A ACCIDENT...PLEASE GIVE ME SOME GUIDANCE... THANK YOU
THE SYSTEM WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED, THEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. EVALUATION SHOWED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED AND WAS COVERED WITH ENGINE OIL WHICH HAD LEAKED FROM THE FRONT VALVE COVER GASKET ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. THIS FAILURE IS THE SAME AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V415000, WHICH COVERS ANOTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLE.
AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINS LIT, SUSPECTED IT HAD TO DO WITH PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL. DEALER SAYS NOT, THAT IT IS THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND THAT IN AN ACCIDENT THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK IF NOT FIXED AND WANTS TO CHARGE $485 TO DO SO. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL BECAUSE, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I SEE, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PARTS FAILURE. SINCE THE DRIVER'S SIDE GETS USED FAR MORE OFTEN THAN THE PASSENGER, IT IS HASN'T FAILED AS A RESULT OF USE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT SEAT BELT RECEIVERS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,400. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $ 365.35.
THE CAR WAS EXPERTLY MAINTAINED, FOLLOWED THE SEVERE DUTY MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL 125,000 MILES. METALLIC DEBRIS IN THE CRANKCASE CAUSED THE OIL PUMP NOT TO SPRAY OIL ONTO THE CONNECTING ROD BEARING CAUSING A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT WAS RECENTLY RECALLED ON THE NEWER 2011-UP THETA II. THE THETA I AND THETA II ARE THE EXACT SAME SHORT BLOCKS EXCEPT FOR THE THETA II'S DIRECT INJECTION SYSTEM. MY MECHANIC WHO DID THE REPAIR WAS VERY SURPRISED SINCE HE ALWAYS INSPECTED MY CAR ANNUALLY AND KNEW I USED TO BE A MECHANIC AND MAINTAINED ALL MY CARS LIKE CLOCKWORK. THE REPAIR COST WAS $4,113.53, SEE ATTACHED INVOICE. THE EXISTING RECALL SHOULD BE FOR ALL THETA ENGINE SINCE 2006-UP NOT JUST FOR THE 2011-UP.
DEAR SIR OR MADAM, MY 2006 SONATA HAS BEING ILLUMINATED THE AIR BAG LAMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE IF WILL DETERMINE IF 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW DAYS, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED TO BE LIT CONTINUOUSLY WHILE AN OCCUPANT WAS IN THE SEAT. INITIALLY, THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OUT AFTER A FEW MOMENTS. HOWEVER, AFTER APPROXIMATELY A WEEK OF THE ON/OFF, THE LIGHT THEN REMAINED LIT ANYTIME THE CAR WAS ON. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE ESC OFF LIGHT BEGAN TO LIGHT UP WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF/TURN ESC ON UNLESS THE CAR WAS STOPPED, TURNED OFF, AND THEN BACK ON. THE ISSUE HAS APPEARED SPORADICALLY, USUALLY WHEN ASSOCIATED WITH A TURN. IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES THUS FAR. *TR
WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING THE( ECO OFF) LIGHT CAME ON, AND THERE WAS NO POWER, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUTOFF THE IGNITION, WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THAT THE CAR IS PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE SOLUTION IS ALWAYS THE SAME, PULL OVER AND CUTOFF THE IGNITION FOR A FEW SECONDS. *TR
I AM ANOTHER HYUNDAI 2006 OWNER WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT ON WHO PAID $105.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC WHICH RETURNED CODE B1706 HAVING TO DO WITH THE PRETENSIONER AND SEAT BELT. NOT ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI APPLICABLE TO THE RECALL. I NOW HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER $350.00 TO HAVE THIS REPAIR DONE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. SHAME ON HYUNDAI, I BOUGHT THIS CAR PARTLY BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND THE DESIRE FOR A SAFE VEHICLE. HOW CAN THEY SPLIT HAIRS AND CLAIM THIS IS NOT A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM? *TR
BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORRODED STEEL HARD LINES FOR REAR BRAKES. THE HARD LINES FAILED APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT IN A PROTECTED PLASTIC CHANNEL THAT CONTAINS THE BRAKE HARD LINES, AND FUEL LINES. ON FURTHER INSPECTION BRAKE LINES ARE HEAVILY CORRODED, AND FUEL LINES ALSO HAVE EXTENSIVE CORROSION. THE POINT OF FAILURE HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP QUICKLY IN A HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATION WHILE APPLYING HIGH BRAKE PRESSURE. THE BRAKE LINES ARE IN A PARTIALLY ENCLOSED CHANNEL - SO ARE NOT VISIBLE FOR INSPECTION, AND THE ISSUE WAS MISSED EVEN AFTER TAKING THE CAR FOR AN EVALUATION AT SEARS AFTER THIS ISSUE OCCURRED. SYMPTOMS OF THIS INCIDENT INCLUDED: SINKING BRAKE PEDAL, BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, LOW FLUID IN BRAKE RESERVOIR, AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. BRAKE LINES CAN FAIL - HOWEVER THIS WAS SURPRISING AS THE CAR HAS VERY LOW MILES - AND WAS ONLY DRIVEN FOR APPROX 65,000 MILES IN THE MIDWEST WHERE SALT WAS USED OCCASIONALLY (CENTRAL ILLINOIS). IT SHOULD BE EXPECTED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WOULD LAST AT LEAST FOR THE 10YR OR 120,000 MILE MANUFACTURE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. *JS

WE HAD THE PASSENGER SEAT RE-CALIBRATED DUE TO LIT AIRBAG LIGHT SOMETIME LAST YEAR UNDER THE PREVIOUS RECALL - WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED BY HYUNDAI AT ALL AND INSTEAD, WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN THAT IT WAS A RECALL ITEM, WHICH WE FOUND UNCONSCIONABLE ON THE MANUFACTURER'S PART. WE COULD NOT AFFORD AN AIRBAG REPAIR AND DROVE THE CAR FOR OVER A YEAR, AND FOUND OUT LATER THAT THE DEFECT WOULD RENDER THE ENTIRE SYSTEM NONFUNCTIONAL. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS LIT AGAIN - THE DEALER TOLD US NOT TO PUT ANYTHING ON THE PASSENGER SEAT BESIDES A PERSON SO AS NOT TO TRIGGER "SOMETHING". WHEN I INQUIRED AGAIN ABOUT THE LIT AIRBAG LIGHT, THE DEALER TOLD ME "IT COULD BE THE SEAT BELT" AND QUOTED A PRICE WELL OVER $100. IT IS CLEAR THE DEALER, CAPITAL CITY HYUNDAI IN TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA IS ALREADY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THEREFORE, SO IS HYUNDAI. NOW I SEE THAT THIS IS AN EMERGING PROBLEM THROUGH AN EDMUND'S ARTICLE DATED JULY 25, 2014 - PLEASE COMPEL HYUNDAI TO ACT ON THIS DEFECT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. MY COLLEGE AGED SON AND TEEN DAUGHTER USE THE CAR AND I WORRY CONSTANTLY ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEFECT INVOLVING SAFETY AT ALL - I PAID FOR THE CAR ONCE!! *TR

AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND THE AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTRE DIAGNOSED THAT IT IS THE DRIVER SEAT BELT PROBLEM HENCE NEED TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT FOR AROUND $500. WHEN I SEARCHED ON INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS IS THE FACTORY PROBLEM HENCE I THINK IT SHOULD BE COMPANY RECALLED AND SHOULD BE FIX FOR FREE. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND REPAIR OF BUCKLE ASSY- FRONT (FIRST REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN 2009). I PAID FOR THE SECOND REPAIR ON 6/25/14 AS THE MAINTENANCE MANAGER SAID IT WAS A ONE-TIME RECALL AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. (PART: 88840-0A000-QS) NEEDED IT DONE FOR SAFETY SO I PAID; BUT, IT BOTHERED ME THAT IT WAS A RECALL AND I HAD PAID NEARLY $260. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR (2015) AND AFTER TALKING TO A COUPLE OF PEOPLE FOUND THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT SHOULD COVER THE COST. AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS, MAILING INVOICE WITH CHECK NUMBER, FAXING SAME ON 3/20/15, I GOT A PHONE CALL TODAY REQUIRING ME TO UPLOAD A FILE TO A PARTICULAR WEBSITE. I CALLED AND WENT THRU 2 MORE PEOPLE, ONE OF WHOM HAD MY HARD COPY INVOICE DOCUMENT IN HAND, COULD NOT ENTER MY PERSONAL INFO. (PHONE #, ADDRESS, EMAIL ADDRESS) AND, WAS NOT IN THE DEPT. THAT HANDLED THE "CAMPAIGN" REFUND; SHE TRANSFERRED ME TO "SWEETIE" WHO STILL INSISTED I MUST CREATE A JPG FILE OF MY INVOICE TO POST TO THE NEW WEBSITE. (I AM 62 BUT FIGURED IT OUT, OTHERS WON'T. I HAVE DOGGEDLY PURSUED MY REFUND BUT HYUNDAI IS MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE (WHICH I TOLD THEM). TODAY IS 4/20/15. WAITING FOR NEXT RIDICULOUS REQUIREMENT. TOO MANY PHONE NUMBERS AND WEBSITES TO LIST HERE. ALSO HAD VALVE COVER OIL LEAK REPAIRED ON 6/25/14 AND BASED ON A COMPLAINT SEEN ON THIS SITE, I AM WAITING FOR A SECOND OCCURRENCE. INSTALLED 22453-3C110 GASKET-ROCKER COVER LH, REPLACED VALVE COVER GASKET. WE CAN COMPLAIN ALL DAY BUT NOBODY IS STREAMLINING THE RECALL REPAIR PROCESS. THE AIR BAG WENT ON TO INDICATE THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT WORK. CONSIDERED THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND INDICATED IT WAS NOT COVERED AND HAD TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE SEATBEAT PRETENSIONER ASSEMBLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, GOING ABOUT 60 MPH, AND SUDDENLY THE ESC OFF LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULD NOT ABLE TO SWITCH IT OFF WITH ESC CONTROL BUTTON. ITS QUIET FREQUENT NOW WHENEVER CAR TOUCHES 60 MPH AND SOMETIME IT AUTOMATICALLY COMES WITHIN CITY DRIVING 30-40 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO WHEEL WORKS FOR THE CHECKUP AND THEY SUGGESTED TO GET IT CHECKED WITH DEALER AS IT COULD BE A SIGN OF A BIGGER PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO READ SEVERAL FORUMS AND COME TO KNOW THAT MANY CONSUMERS ARE FACING SIMILAR PROBLEM AND IT COULD BE RELATED TO ACCELERATOR PEDAL OR BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS ALSO KNOWN PROBLEM TO HYUNDAI BUT THEY ARE NOT DOING A RECALL FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP IN ASSISTING ON THIS PROBLEM AND YOUR URGENT ACTION WILL BE APPRECIATED. *TR
THE DRIVER AIR BAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND HAS NOT TURNED OFF. I KNOW SOMEONE WITH THE SAME CAR AS ME EXCEPT IT'S A 2007 BUT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCUR NOW 4-6 TIMES. WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY (STILL GOING ABOUT 45-60MPH) ONTO EXIT RAMP WITH SLIGHT RIGHT TURN OF MY WHEEL THERE HAS BEEN SUDDEN DECREASE IN THE ABILITY TO STEER. ALMOST LIKE IT WAS LOCKED OR STEERING HAD GONE OUT. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED WITH R TURN OFF AN EXIT. NO PROBLEMS TURNING WHEN STOPPED OR GOING SLOWER. ONCE THE VEHICLE STRAIGHTENS IT WILL UNLOCK- STAYS LIKE THIS FOR 1-3 SEC. FIRST TIME FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO HIT THE PERSON BESIDE ME D/T INABILITY TO TURN. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BUT MADE APPT TO GET THIS CHECKED OUT. *TR
I'VE REPLACE THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF A "DROOPING" SUN VISOR THAT WOULD AFFECT THE DRIVERS VISIBILITY. SINCE THEN BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER SIDE VISORS "DROOP" WHENEVER WE TRY TO USE THEM. THE VISORS ARE ESSENTIALLY USELESS AND A DETRIMENT TO OUR VISIBILITY AND SAFE DRIVING. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILED WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS REPORTED SCORCH MARKS ON THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, AND A MELTED/FUSED SCREEN. HE TELLS ME THAT THE FAILURE/SHORT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN EXPLOSION. *TR
AT 110,615 MILEAGE ON CAR HAD INSTALLED LINK ASSY FR STABILIZER, BUSH-STABILIZER, LINK ASSY-FR STABILIZER, JOINT ASSY-CV LH AND WASHER-INR ALSO REPLACED: LF CV AXLE SHAFT AND SWAYBAR LINKAGES AND BUSHINGS. ABOVE WAS DUE TO CLUNK TYPE NOISE FRONT WHEN TURNING BOTH DIRECTION:THEY FOUND SWAYBARS BUSHINGS WORN AND SWAYBAR LINKAGES HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY CAUSING KNOCKING TYPE NOISE. THEY ALSO MENTIONED SOMETHING WAS RUSTED? NOT SURE, AS THEY DID NOT NOTE THAT VERBAL COMMENT ON SERVICE REPORT. SINCE I HAD THIS CAR BROUGHT IN AT 99,000 MILES FOR A COMPLETE WARRANTY CHECK AND WAS TOLD ALL WAS GOOD AND I HAVE HAD ALL MY MAINTENANCE DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRS WERE A ONETIME GOODWILL REPAIR. NOW MY CAR IS BROUGHT BACK IN AT 111,000 DUE TO A CLUNKING, KNOCKING IN THE BACK! SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN AT 20-30MPH AND BREAKING. CAR HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER SINCE MAY 21, 2014 TODAY IS MAY 26, 2014 AND THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS NOTIFIED WHILE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V354000 (SUSPENSION ) REPAIR WAS BEING PERFORMED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SUPPORT HAD DETERIORATED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SUPPORT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,586.

MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON CONSISTENTLY. OUR MECHANIC READ THE CODE AND IT IS THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BEAT BUCKLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT THEIR WARRANTIES ONLY COVER SEAT BELTS AND AIR BAGS FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY ADVERTISE AS "AMERICA'S BEST WARRANTY." I KNOW THIS AFFECTS WHETHER THE AIR BAGS WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT, SO I URGE YOU TO PLEASE FORCE THEM TO RECALL THIS ITEM AND REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE IT FOR ANYONE AFFECTED FOR FREE. FYI, I DID HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH A HONDA ACCORD IN THE PAST AND HONDA DID NOT EVEN QUESTION REPAIRING IT-IT IS WARRANTED FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE, THIS BEING THE SECOND TIME. I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY ON TO A ROUNDED TURN EXIT WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL FELT AS THOUGH I LOST POWER. IT TIGHTENED UP ON ME. WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE TURN AND STRAIGHTENED THE WHEEL OUT THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 78,000 MILES THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO FOUND HISTORY CODE B1448 - OCS MAT DEFECTIVE. THE TECH CLEARED THE CODE AND RETESTED CAR AND STATED IT IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THEN AT 83,000 MILES THE SAME LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THIS TIME THAT THERE IS A FAULT CODE SET FOR THE PASSENGERS SIDE SEATBELT LATCH. THE LATCH SIDE OF THE SEATBELT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT WILL COST $360. THE TECH ALSO STATED THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM MANY SONATA OWNERS REGARDING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
"AIR BAG" SRS WARNING LIGHT ON CONTINUOUSLY. PER OWNERS MANUAL, THIS INDICATES THIS SYSTEM "IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY" AND "SHOULD BE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI DEALER". CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG/SRS SYSTEM IS UNSAFE AND COULD CAUSE INJURY OR NOT PROPERLY PROTECT OCCUPANTS FROM INJURY OR DEATH IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, BROUGHT CAR TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER. INSTRUCTED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM AND CHARGE US $105.00. DEALER PERFORMED INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS WAS FAULTY "BELT ASSY RESTENCE HIGH IN BUCKLE ASSY FRONT PASS SIDE" FOR ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF $470.00. REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED. WE CALLED HYUNDAI CORP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH MANAGER, BUT HYUNDAI STATED THAT SINCE NO RECALL NOTED AND PAST WARRANTY PERIOD, THEY WOULD NOT FIX DEFECT AT NO CHARGE. WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG/SRS PART/SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL UNDER NORMAL LIFE AND USE OF A CAR? THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL INTERNAL SAFETY SYSTEM AND SHOULD NOT STOP WORKING PROPERLY. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT FOR DESIGN, COMPONENTS AND/OR WORKMANSHIP AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. HYUNDAI IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT'S FAULTY PRODUCT TO SAVE THEMSELVES MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF CONSUMERS AND PLACING MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AT RISK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
PROBLEMS WITH RIGHT CONTROL ARM AND FROM STRUT MOUNTS. THUMP NOISE WHEN BUMPS ARE THERE. INITIALLY, THE DEALER SAID EVERYTHING LOOKS FINE. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THOROUGHLY AND THEY SAID THAT PROBLEM WITH RIGHT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT IT COST AROUND $1220 TO REPAIR. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY ME AND MY FAMILY. A SIMILAR RECALL HAS BEEN DONE (NUMBER 113). IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO HEAR WITH NO FAULT OF OURS. THE HYUNDAI NEED TO TAKE CARE OF IT. NOW TO THE POINT, IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF THE AIR BAG LIGHT. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR THE HYUNDAI VERACRUZ (WHICH ALSO USES THE HYUNDAI LAMBADA ENGINE). THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE VALVE COVER LEAKING OIL ONTO THE ALTERNATOR, CAUSING THE ALTERNATOR TO FAIL. THIS HAPPENED TO MY CAR A YEAR AGO (APPROX), AND I PAID TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. THE LEAKING ISSUE IS STARTING TO SURFACE AGAIN, WHICH CAUSED ME TO LOOK ONLINE FOR HOW WIDESPREAD THIS ISSUE WAS. THAT WAS WHEN I DISCOVERED THE VERACRUZ RECALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN EARLY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, ANOTHER VEHICLE SHIFTED LANES UNEXPECTEDLY. WHILE HITTING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE "JOSTLED" AND SHOOK AND WAS FAILING TO STOP. AFTER PUMPING THE BREAKS I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND BARELY (3-6 INCHES) AVOID HITTING ANYONE ELSE. THE MECHANIC JUST CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT ONE CALIPER PIN IN THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKES, AS WELL AS ONE CALIPER PIN IN THE REAR LEFT HAD COMPLETELY FROZE UP. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE FRONT RIGHT HAS DONE SO (FIRST TIME ON OR AROUND JANUARY 13, 2013). AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TODAY, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE & MODEL. *TR
WHILE EXITING INTERSTATE ON A CLOVERLEAF AT ABOUT 30MPH, SUDDEN DECREASE IN ABILITY TO STEER, AS IF POWER STEERING HAD GONE OUT. HAVE MADE THIS SAME TURN A COUPLE OF TIMES SINCE WITH SAME RESULTS AS WELL AS A LEFT HAND TURN AT ABOUT THE SAME SPEED. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS STRAIGHTENING UP THE STEERING RETURNS TO NORMAL. NO PROBLEMS MAKING A TURN FROM A STOPPED POSITION OR SLOWER TURN, SUCH AS IN TOWN TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. HAPPENED WHEN HUSBAND DROVE CAR ONCE AS WELL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL MODULE AND THE SENSOR BOX TO THE ESC WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT LATER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING AS IT STALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
