I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO VIOLENTLY VIBRATE AND SHAKE UP/DOWN AND IN AND OUT OF STEERING COLUMN AT 65 MPH (NOT LEFT TO RIGHT WHEN STEERING). IT ALSO MADE A CLICKING NOISE AND VIBRATION WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING THE CAR EVEN WHEN SLIGHTLY CORRECTING. I TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI AND THEY FIXED THE THE ISSUE SAYING IT WAS "COMMON". THEY HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN 2011. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE SAME ISSUE/LOANER/AND OTHER FEES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX FOR FREE FOR THEIR CONSUMERS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO HYUNDAI AND REQUESTED A REFUND BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM.
STARTED HEARING A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE TURNING. THE STEERING WHEEL LITERALLY FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL OFF IN MY LAP. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE QUITE RAPIDLY TO THE POINT WHERE IT DOES IT AS I DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD NORMALLY AROUND 65 MPH OR FASTER. IT ALSO SEEMS LIKE THE CAR WILL WALK ALL OVER THE ROAD WHILE IT IS MAKING THIS NOISE. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO HAS SLACK AND MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE STATIONARY IF YOU MOVE IT BACK AND FORTH. I INITIALLY THOUGHT MY TIE RODS HAD ALREADY WORN OUT ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE THE TIE RODS REPLACED TO FIND OUT IT IS IN MY STEERING COLUMN. IT SEEMS AS IF A BOX IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS LOOSE OR BAD AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD I AM GOING TO LOSE THE STEERING SHAFT IF IT DOESN'T GET FIXED. IT IS ALSO BELIEVED THAT MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON DUE TO THIS SAME ISSUE. IT HAS CAUSED A SENSOR IN THE STEERING WHEEL TO GO OUT. I CALLED THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF RECALL FOR THE STEERING ON MY CAR AND THEY SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING. BUT THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AND SAID THAT MY STEERING COUPLER MOST LIKELY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT IS GOING TO SET ME BACK AT LEAST $350. SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND A KNOWN ISSUE, I ASK WHY THERE ISNT A RECALL AND JUST GOT TOLD HE DOESNT KNOW. I WAS READING THAT THERE IS THIS SAME ISSUE IN THE 2011 SONATAS. MY CAR IS A 2012 BUT WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN DEC 2011 BUT THEY STILL WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
ON MY WAY TO WORK I HAD TURNED OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO A SIDE STREET AND MY VEHICLE STALLED OUT WITH NO WARNING OR WARNING LIGHTS. I COASTED IT TO THE SIDE TO SAFETY. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT DID AND NO WARNING LIGHTS SHOWED UP BUT WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, WAITING ON AN ANSWER BUT SOUNDS LIKE IT MAY BE PART OF AN ENGINE RECALL. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL FAILURE IF IT HAPPENED ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR IN ANOTHER TRAFFIC SITUATION.
AT 105K MILES GOT THE "CLUNK" FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. FOR $411 THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING COUPLER AND IT DRIVES LIKE NEW. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR SAFETY.
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK ON FRIDAY AROUND 2130, I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ABOUT 65-70MPH WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS DECLINING IN SPEED WITHOUT ME LETTING UP ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS IN A FAIR AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC WITH A SEMI BEHIND ME, I PRESSED DOWN FURTHER ON THE GAS PEDAL TO TRY AND INCREASE SPEED WHILE LOOKING FOR A WAY TO SAFELY GET OFF OF THE EXPRESSWAY. THE CAR INITIALLY DID NOT SPEED BACK UP, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS, IT SPED BACK UP. THE CAR DID THIS THREE TIMES DURING MY, NORMALLY 25 MINUTE, DRIVE HOME. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SCARY, ESPECIALLY BEING IN HEAVY CHICAGO TRAFFIC. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING SATURDAY MORNING AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT CHECKED. THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT WAS TODAY, TUESDAY, AND I HAD THE VEHICLE THERE AT 0700. THE VEHICLE WAS SCANNED AND PULLED SEVERAL CODES: C1283, C1213, C1513, B1102, B112, C1334, C1335, C1126, C1662, C1312, C1314, AND C1315. THEY THEN PERFORMED INDIVIDUAL CODE DIAGNOSTICS AND TRACED CODE FAILURES TO YAW-RATE SENSOR, BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR AND EVAP PURGE SOLENOID. ESTIMATED $1276.97 + TAX.
STEERING WHEEL WOULD MAKE A CLACKING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED OR WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT MATTER. AN AUDIBLE CLICK COULD BE HEARD WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT. WHEN THE CAR WENT OVER ANY SPEED BUMPS OR POT HOLES, A CLACKING NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT THE STEERING COUPLER WAS COMPLETELY WORN DOWN. IT STARTED VERY SUBTLY FOR A FEW MONTHS, BUT THEN WITHIN A MONTH, WOULD MAKE NOISE WITH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENTS OR BUMPS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, WHITE SMOKE EMITTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE DRIVER COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE NEXT TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT FRACTURED METAL FRAGMENTS WERE IN THE ENGINE, WHICH CAUSED IT TO FAIL. THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, AND WAS NO FAULT OF THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE POLICE STOPPED THE CONTACT BECAUSE THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT WAS OUT. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAIL LIGHT BULBS WERE REPLACED AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES ON BOTH SIDES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE), THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A RING IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I HAD BEEN DRIVING AND EVERYTHING WAS OK. I GOT HOME AND HAD NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS ON. I STARTED THE CAR UP 10 MINUTES LATER AND MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANTED LIKE 70 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE AND THEN MORE MONEY FOR LABOR. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT. I COULDN'T AFFORD IT. HONDA DIAGNOSES AND COVERS STUFF LIKE THAT 100%. THEY SAY HYUNDAI HAS THE BEST WARRANTY BUT SO FAR NO PROBLEMS I'VE HAD HAS BEEN COVERED. A MECHANIC AND NEIGHBOR OF MINE SAYS THEY'VE SEEN MANY HYUNDAI AIRBAG LIGHTS AND ARE SURPRISED THERE'S NOT A RECALL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED RALLYE MOTORS (1600 NORTHERN BLVD, ROSLYN, NY, (516) 625-1000) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
RECALL CAMPAIGN 132. VEHICLE STALLED/LOCKED UP CAUSING A COLLISION WITH HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE.
VEHICLE TYPE: 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA SE ON THURSDAY APRIL 14, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 6P IN THE EVENING THE AIR BAG CHECK LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED IN MY VEHICLE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE ISSUE ADDRESSED. ON SAT APRIL 23RD, I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS $436 TO REPLACE A CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY (PART # 93490-3Q120). DUE TO THE FACT THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 60,000MI, THIS EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY. I WAS ASTONISHED TO FIND THAT SOMETHING OF THIS IMPORT WOULD EVER NEED REPLACEMENT AND THAT SUCH FAILURE IN THE DEVICE WOULD PREVENT MY AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. FOR THIS REASON, I BELIEVE THAT THE WARRANTY ON ANY SUCH ITEM SHOULD BE UNLIMITED. WITHOUT THIS REPAIR, I DO NOT HAVE A FUNCTIONING AIRBAG. I CONTEND THAT THE REPAIR OF EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BY THE NHTSA SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND WARRANTED BY SUCH FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE, AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS OPERATIONAL.
TAIL LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS AND BREAK LIGHTS KEEP MELTING THE BULB TO THE SOCKET LEAVING ME WITH NO BREAK LIGHTS AND NOT KNOWING UNTIL SOMEONE PULLS UP N YELLS AT ME. IT ALSO HAS CAUSED ME TO GET PULLED OVER NUMEROUS TIMES. ADVANCED AUTO PARTS TOLD ME THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE TOLD THEM THEY CAN NOT REPLACE THEM BC IT IS A KNOWN HYUNDAI ISSUE AND IT'S DANGEROUS THAT'S WHY THEIR BULBS KEEP GOING OUT OF STOCK FOR THIS CAR. LIGHTS INSIDE THE CAR SOME TIMES FLICKER ON AND OFF AND TWICE THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF MY CAR WENT PITCH BLACK CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE OVER 200 PICS OF OTHER HYUNDAI WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND I HAVE TOLD HYUNDAI ABOUT IT AND CALLED CORPORATE ABOUT IT NUMEROUS TIMES. I ATTACHED A COLLAGE WITH SOME PLACES I GO N RANDOMLY ALWAYS SEE OTHERS W THE SAAAAME LIGHT OUT OR NO LIGHTS AT ALL!! OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE FORCED TO PAY $400/ PER LIGHT TO FIX A SOCKET!!! THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2016 AND I'M JUST ABOUT TIRED OF IT BC IT SEEMS TO KEEP GETTING WORSE!!!
AFTER ACQUIRING THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE IN 2012, HYUNDAI SONATA 2012 2.0T LIMITED, THE VEHICLE FAILED AND LOST ALL POWER JUST BEFORE ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE. I CALLED THE DEALER, O'BRIEN HYUNDAI DEALER AS AN EMERGENCY AS THE VEHICLE WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND LACKING OF POWER TO USE IT AND I WAS ON THE ROAD. I MANAGED TO GET TO THE DEALER. THIS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 2500 MILES ONLY. A QUICK PATCH OR ADJUSTMENT WAS PERFORMED AT THE MOMENT. THE PATCH JUST LASTED SEVERAL WEEKS AS THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PERFORMING AS WHEN IT WAS BOUGHT 2 MONTHS AGO. SINCE THEN, I HAVE BEEN IN THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND QUICK ADJUSTMENTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. I LEFT THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES FOR A FULL INSPECTION AND DEALER CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE IS IN WORKING ORDER. I TESTED VEHICLE WITH THE SHOP SUPERVISOR, JIM HAAS, WITH THE MECHANIC AND, OF COURSE, THEY ARE ALWAYS RIGHT. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH 270 HP AND AFTER THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE PERFORMS AS 100HP AT THE MOST. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO GET THE ISSUE FIXED, I DEMANDED TO REPLACE THE WASTEGATE CONTROLLER, JUST TO DISCARD ISSUES WITH THE ORIGINAL UNIT, AND TODAY, 4/9/16 THE VEHICLE CAME WITH A P2565 ERROR CODE, RELATED TO THE TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE CONTROLLER. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF DEALING WITH SUCH A LACK OF INTEREST FROM HYUNDAI AND AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDERS. I AM JUST BANNING THIS BRAND FOR LIFE. I AM JUST WAITING TO RETURN THIS LEASE AND RUN OUT SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CAR DEALER.
THE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH LIGHTING OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY CAR. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE EVERY HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT AND LICENSE PLATE LIGHT, NOT ONCE BUT SEVERAL TIMES FOR EACH ONE. MUST HAVE REPLACED 16 TO 20 LIGHTS. NOW THE HORN KEEPS BLOWING. I HAVE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE SO IT DOESN'T WAKE UP THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD.. I AM TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK OR IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THESE PROBLEMS.. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. ALSO, IT LOSES POWER AS I AM DRIVING. FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT, BUT THEN TAKES OFF AGAIN.
THE STEERING ON MY HYUNDAI SONATA APPEARS TO HAVE A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND HAS A VERY WEIRD PULL. ON PERFECTLY FLAT ROADS, IT MOVES TO THE RIGHT AND OR LEFT WHEN LEFT ALONE. MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IMPLIES THAT DRIVING REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING ASSISTANCE CAUSING A DISTRACTION TO DRIVING. I ACTUALLY NOTICED THIS ISSUE ONLY AFTER MOVING TO ANOTHER CITY. I USED TO LIVE ON THE HILLS AND I ASSUMED THIS WAS DUE TO THE TERRAIN. BUT NOW IT IT DEFINITELY AN ISSUE. ON AN ANOTHER NOTE, THE STEERING BEHAVES PERFECTLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT IS ONLY AFTER YOU CROSS 40MPH THAT THIS ISSUE CROPS UP. I HAVE BSERVED IT FOR OVER A MONTH AND I HAVE HAD MY WHEELS BALANCED, TIRES ROTATED AND INSPECTED AT A DEALER.
CAR COULD NOT START WITHOUT PRESSING ACCELERATION PEDAL THIS MORNING (03/30/2016). AFTER PRESSING ACC PEDAL AND TURNING THE KEY ENGINE STARTED. IT REPEATED THE SAME WAY WHEN CAR WAS STARTED GOING TO HOME. ALTHOUGH, IT TOOK MUCH LONGER TO START THE ENGINE. DROVE HOME AND THEN TOOK KID TO SOCCER PRACTICE. ON TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHEN GREEN LIGHT WAS ON, I WAS TURNING RIGHT BUT CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT CONTROL. I MOVED GEAR TO NEUTRAL AND RPM PIKED TO AT 2500. I HAVE A VIDEO OF IT AFTER I STOPPED ON RED LIGHT. CAR HAS 71086 MILES AND IS IN "PREFECT" CONDITION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR COUPLE OF DAYS BUT THERE WAS NO MIL CODE PRESENT. AFTER I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN ON, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND NO CODES WERE PRESENT, NOT EVEN PENDING ONES.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE FROM ENGINE. ALL MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. I LOST ALL POWER IN VECHICLE.
MY CAR IS SLOWING DOWN WHILE I'M DRIVING AND IN ORDER TO PICK UP SPEED I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS AND PUT IT BACK ON TO ACCELERATE. I AM ALSO HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH INCLUDES CHANGING MY BRAKE LIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE ALSO INCLUDES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SEAT BELT LIGHT, CHECK TIRE LIGHT AND TRUCK LIGHT ON WHEN IT IS NOT OPEN. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IS ALSO AFFECTING MY DOORS AND ALARM SYSTEM I.E. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY ONLY MANUAL WHEN IT SHOULD BE AUTOMATIC.
CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR 7 DAYS. FIRST DAY, ON A WAY TO WORK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. ON A WAY HOME, AT GREEN TRAFFIC LIGHT, I WAS MAKING LEFT TURN, ACCELERATION PEDAL WAS PRESSED AND CAR ACCELERATED AS INTENDED BUT AFTER HALF A SECOND ACCELERATION PEDAL STOPPED WORKING AND CAR SLOWLY MOVED FORWARD ONLY BY INERTIA. ACCELERATION PEDAL WAS NON FUNCTIONAL, AND ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT IDLE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THE VEHICLE ON A STOP LANE, PAST INTERSECTION, WITH ENGINE STILL RUNNING AND NON-FUNCTIONAL ACCELERATION PEDAL. THEN, I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND STARTED IT AGAIN. ACCELERATION PEDAL WAS WORKING WITHOUT PROBLEM. MIL CODES WERE: P2135 P0221, P2106, P0121 AND P2110. TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN NEW HUDSON, MI WHERE SOME INCOMPETENT MECHANIC COULD NOT EVEN DIAGNOSE WHAT WAS THE CAUSE BLAMING THE CAR BATTERY. I WAS DRIVING ON A 6 LANE CITY ROAD.. I GOT IN A LEFT HAND TURN LANE. THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE LIGHT WAS RED. THE ISSUE IS METAL DEBRIS FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND POSSIBLE ENGINE SEIZING. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE WILL EVALUATE THE ENGINE WITH A "SOUND" TEST, ONLY, TAKING ABOUT 15 MINUTES. THIS BEING THE AUTHORIZED METHOD FROM HYUNDAI TO THIS DEALER. I ASSUME THAT NHTSA HAS APPROVED THIS METHOD OF EVALUATION. THIS METHOD OF TESTING WILL ONLY IDENTIFY THOSE ENGINES THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED ENOUGH EXCESS WEAR TO CAUSE UNUSUAL NOISES. THIS DEPENDENT ON MILES DRIVEN WHICH WILL VARY SIGNIFICANTLY AMONG THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES EFFECTED. METAL DEBRIS BLOCKING OIL PASSAGES WILL NOT BE DETECTED BY THIS TEST. CRANKSHAFT AND BEARING DAMAGE DUE TO METAL DEBRIS THAT WILL BE A LONG TERM PROBLEM WILL NOT BE DETECTED BY THIS NOISE TEST. VEHICLES WITH LOW MILEAGE SUCH AS MINE MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO CAUSE ANY DETECTABLE NOISES AT THIS TIME. THE PROPER EVALUATION OF THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM WOULD CONSIST OF REMOVING OF THE OIL PAN AND INSPECTING FOR DEBRIS, DISASSEMBLY OF THE OIL PUMP FOR INSPECTION, REMOVAL OF ALL CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS AND INSPECTION FOR METAL DEBRIS OR PREMATURE WEAR. THE ENGINE OIL PAN WAS RESEALED FIVE TIMES AND STILL ITS LEAKING. WHEN THEY RESEALED THE SECOND TIME, THEY REPLACED THE OIL PAN AS WELL. AFTER THAT IT WAS RESEALED THREE MORE TIMES AND THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR SIXTH RESEAL. THEY ARE REPLACING THE PAN AGAIN. THE BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS ARE EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE RUST WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN IN MY LIFE WHILE OWNING AND MAINTAINING VARIOUS CARS. THE FIELD ENGINEER IS SAYING THAT ITS NORMAL AND I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. WHAT I HAVE SEEN BASED ON THAT IT'S A DESIGN FLAW. THE CALIPER PISTON SHOULD BE PRESSING COMPLETELY AGAINST THE BRAKE PAD SURFACE AREA WHERE AS SMALL PORTION OF THE CALIPER REMAINS IN NON CONTACT WITH THE PAD AND THE SALT AND SLUSH DURING THE WINTER GETS INTO IT MAKING IT RUST WHICH WILL IMPEDE THE BRAKING OPERATION IN FUTURE AND MAY CAUSE A FATAL CRASH. 1/23/2016 8:02 AM I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING HER 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA ON THE I-95 IN SOUTH FLORIDA ON THE WAY TO WORK GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN SHE WENT TO ACCELERATE TO OVERTAKE A CAR DRIVING SLOWER. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION POWER AND THE SPEED DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 40 MPH. WHEN THE SPEED REACHED 40 MPH, SHE COULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE AND HENCE QUICKLY PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (UPON MY REQUEST). DUE TO THE HEAVY TRAFFIC, SHE WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I ARRIVED TO SWITCH CARS WITH HER, THE CAR STARTED FINE AND ACCELERATED APPROPRIATELY. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHO AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS CAME UP THE FOLLOWING: NO CODES STORED IN MEMORY AND NO SIGNS OF WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CAR TO ACT LIKE THIS. THEY RECOMMENDED A THROTTLE BODY CLEANING WHICH IS CURRENTLY BEING COMPLETED (I AM WRITING THIS FROM DELRAY BEACH HYUNDAI). THEY STATED THE THROTTLE BODY STICKING MAY BE THE CAUSE, BUT WENT ON TO ADMIT THEY REALLY HAD NO IDEA AS DIAGNOSTICS GAVE THEM NO INFORMATION. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE FACT THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO COME UP WITH ANY CAUSE IS EVEN MORE OF A CONCERN.
