I GUESS I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WITH MELTING DASHBOARD AND BOTH SIDE MIRROR HOUSING UNITS. TODAY 9-16-14, DEALER IS REPLACING MY DASH N HOUSING FOR THE SECOND TIME!!! I WAS SO FED UP WITH DEALER AND GOT CORPORATE INVOLVED, SO THEY CALLED TODAY 9-16-14 AND TOLD ME JUST ENJOY YOUR MELTING CAR. THEY SAID THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM SURE ITS GOING MELT AGAIN AND HOPING SO. I WILL HAVE TO GET A LEMON LAWYER AND SETTLE IT. IT IS NOT DEFECTIVE PARTS. ITS THE CAR ITSELF!!!! SEP 2014: RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE MAY DETACH FROM THE SHIFT LEVER PIN. SEP 2014: CONTACTED HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER, BRANDON HYUNDAI, 9915 ADAMO DRIVE E, TAMPA FL 33619 AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT FOR SEP 22/14 TO HAVE THE RECALL ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF. SEP 22/14: TOOK VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER; HOWEVER, WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS ON ORDER AND SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME ONCE THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. OCT 1/2014: CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 855-671-3058 AND SPOKE TO [XXX] (# [XXX]) AS NO ONE CONTACTED ME AND I AM ASSUMED THAT THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. DEC 3/14: CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CONNECT CENTER AT CONSUMERAFFAIRS@HMAUSA.COM FOR ASSISTANCE. ****BUYER BEWARE*****PURCHASED THIS CAR IN FEB 2014 WITH ONLY 230MILES ON IT AND IN SEPT 2014 I PULLED OUT OF MY HOME TURNED RIGHT AND HAD NO ISSUES...ALTHOUGH ABOUT 50 FEET LATER I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A FAIRLY BUSY STREET WITH MID TO HIGH TRAFFIC, I STOPPED AND ONCE IN MOTION, IMMEDIATE MY ETS LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND MY STEERING COMPLETELY FROZE UP AND STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP. I WAS IN MOTION GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, NOT YET UP TO THE 45 SPEED LIMIT. THERE WERE CARS ALL AROUND ME AND I HAD TO PHYSICALLY FORCE MY CAR TO RIGHT WITH MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. I WAS LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON MY WAY TO GET MY CHILD FROM SCHOOL, OR AFTER. OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SITUATION. THE HYUNDAI CORPORATION, HAS REFUSED TO BUY BACK THEIR DEFAULT DEATH TRAP OF A VEHICLE AND HAD THE NERVE TO OFFER A "MONTH CAR PAYMENT". MY LIFE COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM ME AND THEY ONLY OFFER A PAYMENT. NOT ACCEPTABLE. BUY BACK YOUR KNOWN DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD FOUR RECALLS ON THIS CAR IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS OF PURCHASE.
BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2012 SONATA A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED LAST SATURDAY MORNING AFTER I TRIED THREE TIMES TO START THE CAR. ON HIGHWAY I HAD TROUBLE REACHING 45 MPH, THE LOWEST SPEED LIMIT. IT'S CAUSED BY LOW FUEL PRESSURE. I DID SOME ONLINE SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT SONATA 2006 HAD THE RECALL OF FUEL PUMP FAILED PREMATURELY. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO THEIR 2012 ONES. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH 2012 SONATA? THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT A WEEK AWAY. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE LOTS OF CARS TO SERVICE. IRONICALLY, I JUST RECEIVED THEIR RECALL LETTER ON 2012 SONATA FOR THEIR "INABILITY TO PLACE THE TRANSAXLE INTO THE PARK POSITION". HAVE TO RENT A CAR BECAUSE MINE MIGHT GET STRANDED ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME. WORST-CASE SCENARIO: REAR-ENDED BY CARS THAT ARE DRIVING AT A PERFECTLY NORMAL SPEED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. AFTER THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE, IT ROLLED AWAY. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO RE-ENTER THE VEHICLE, BUT IT CRASHED INTO A WOODEN FENCE. THE DRIVER'S LEFT LEG BECAME STUCK IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND WAS PINNED BETWEEN THE VEHICLE AND THE FENCE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAWED THE FENCE OFF IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR AND GET THE DRIVER OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HIP, LEFT THIGH, KNEE CAP, AND FOOT. THE DRIVER REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 10/29/14*CN UPDATED 7/14/2015 *JS
COULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN RECALL. AFTER 3RD OR 4TH TIME OF COMPLAINING OF ENGINE WE WERE CONVINCED TO TRADE IN CAR FOR NEW CAR. SO LOST TRADE IN VALUE. IT WAS APPLIED TO CAR.
GOT A RECALL, AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT FOR 1 WEEK LATER AT 9-15-14 @9 : 00. DROVE 26 MILES AND THAY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN, AND DID NOT CONTACT ME NOT TO SHOW UP? *TR
MY CAR CAUGHT FIRE WHILE BEING TOWED BY MY MOTORHOME IN SOUTH MIAMI, FL ON ROUTE TO KEY WEST, FL. A SOUTH MIAMI, FL HYUNDAI DEALER REPAIRED MY CAR BUT DID NOT REPLACE ALL THE PARTS PAID FOR BY MY AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY. THE REPAIR SHOP DID NOT KEEP THE BURNED PARTS AS REQUESTED BY ME AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE. LATER, ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALER COMPLETED THE REPAIRS AS AUTHORIZED BY HYUNDAI USA AFTER NUMEROUS COMMUNICATIONS WITH ME, BUT THE HYUNDAI DEALER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH THE BURNED PARTS AS REQUESTED. HYUNDAI DID NOT REPORT THAT A FIRE HAD CAUSED THE DAMAGE. NOT SURE IF HYUNDAI USA OR ITS DEALERS HAVE REQUIREMENTS TO REPORT FIRES IN THEIR VEHICLES. I HAVE NAMES OF CONTACTS WITH HYUNDAI USA IN CA. I HAVE THE BURNED TPMS SENSOR NOT REPLACED BY HYUNDAI, BUT PAID FOR AT MY EXPENSE TO A TIRE STORE IN MY HOME TOWN. I HAVE PICTURES OF MY CAR ON FIRE; PICTURES OF THE BURNED PARTS ON CAR IN POSSESSION OF MY INSURANCE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE; I HAVE RECEIPTS FROM THE SOUTH MIAMI HYUNDAI REPAIRS, AND I HAVE RECEIPTS FROM THE OTHER HYUNDAI DEALER FOR PARTS NEEDING REPLACEMENT BUT NOT REPLACED BY THE SOUTH MIAMI HYUNDAI DEALER BUT PAID FOR BY MY AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY. I ALSO HAVE A RECEIPT FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE BURNED TPMS SENSOR BY A TIRE STORE IN MY HOME TOWN. I FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE SOUTH MIAMI HYUNDAI DEALER WITH THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR LICENSING AUTO REPAIR SHOPS IN THAT COUNTY. *TR
TIRES WEAR UNEVENLY AND EXCESSIVELY FAST. 60,000 MILES AND THREE ALIGNMENTS AND FOUR SET OF TIRES. *TR
I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JUNE 2014 IT WAS USED AND HAD 38,940 MILES. I'VE HAD TO BUY THREE 3 STARTERS & 1 BATTERY SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE MECHANIC IN FLORIDA STATED THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WHICH WAS SHORTING OUT MY STARTER/BATTERY. I TOOK THE CAR TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN PLANTATION, FL, AFTER THE FIRST STARTER DIED, I DO NOT RECALL THE EXACT DATE AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET A REFUND FROM HYUNDAI AS IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETWEEN SEPT.-DEC. 2014. I HAVE ONLY BEEN REIMBURSED $310.00 FROM HYUNDAI TO DATE FOR THE FIRST STARTER. I GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR TO LITHIA HYUNDAI IN FRESNO TWICE, JAN. 2016 FOR RECALL 132 ' THEY CLAIMED NOTHING IS WRONG. SEVEN MONTHS LATER I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. FIRST COMPLAINT, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR HOME LAST NIGHT THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING; I HAD TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CAR TOOK OFF. THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY ROAD WITH CARS AROUND. WHEN BACKING THE CAR, THERE IS A KNOCKING NOISE. THIS MORNING, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT, BECAUSE IT WOULD SLOW DOWN WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS PEDAL ' IT WAS LIKE I AM RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND I HAVE THE TANK ALMOST FULL. IT WOULD TAKE OFF AGAIN AFTER TAPPING THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. THIS WAS ON A VERY BUSY ROAD WITH A LOT OF CARS. MY FIANC TOOK THE CAR AUGUST 2016 TO VISALIA HYUNDAI AND THEY TRIED TO CLAIM MY CAR/VIN # DOES NOT SHOW IT AS BEING UNDER RECALL. I HAD TO PAY $81.00 TO GET THAT FIXED AND THAT ISSUE WAS PART OF A RECALL AS WELL BUT I WAS TOLD MY VIN # DID NOT SHOW UP FOR IT. I HAVE HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND ENGINE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2014 & HYUNDAI HAS DONE NOTHING. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEY FAILED TO DO ANYTHING. I'VE PAID A LOT OF $$$ MONTHLY FOR THIS CAR & ON REPAIRS FOR A CAR THAT ISN'T SAFE. *TR
CAR ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND COULD NOT BE STOPPED. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND BACKED UP TO LEAVE, ACCIDENTALLY HITTING A STORAGE CONTAINER WITH MY REAR BUMPER. I PUT CAR IN DRIVE TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE CAR ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL BY ITSELF TRAVELING FAST ABOUT 30 FEET. I TRIED TO BRAKE BUT COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. WE HIT A FENCE, MOVING THE FENCE ABOUT 5 FEET AND HIT THE CAR PARKED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE FENCE, SMASHING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. WE HAD OUR SEAT BELTS ON AND WERE NOT INJURED BUT WITHOUT SEAT BELTS WE WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANYMORE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, A STRONG FUEL ODOR EMITTED IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
THE COMPLETE BRAKE LIGHT PANELS-"TAILLIGHTS" ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BACK OF THE CAR (2012 SONATA) - IS COMPLETELY OUT. (BACK DRIVER AND PASSENGER TAILLIGHT PANELS) ALL THE WIRING THAT CARRYS ELECTRICIAL TO THE BACK TAILLIGHTS ARE MELTED / COMPLETELY WORPED / FUSED TOGETHER AND BLOWN OUT. ALL THE BURNT WIRING HAS DISFIGURED AND MELTED THE INSIDE OF THE TAIL LIGHT PANELS (IN THE TRUNK) SO THE BULBS OR WIRES CAN NOT BE REPLACED AND FUNCTIONABLE. FYI: IT CARRYS THE SMELL OF THE BURNT WIRING AND PLASTIC. MY 2012 SONATA HAS "NO ELECTRICIAL WIRES" THAT ARE FUNCTIONABLE TO CONNECT THE TAIL LIGHTS ON EITHER SIDE IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED TO FIX THE BULBS AND CONNECTION 2 TIMES BUT NOTHING WORKS- IT CONTINUES TO BLOW OUT & MELT...THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED THE "TAIL LIGHTS, ALL WIRING TO THE TAILLIGHTS, FUSES AND ANYTHING THAT IS CONNECTED WITH THE ELECTRICAL FOR THE TAIL LIGHTS." THIS WILL CATCH FIRE IN THE TRUNK OR WORSE!
AN ENGINE ROD BLEW A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS WAS DONE AT A SPEED OF AROUND 48 MPH. THIS IS BASED ON THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN INSPECTION. LUCKILY I WAS NOT NEXT TO ANOTHER CAR WHEN THIS OCCURRED OR IT VERY LIKELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND POINTED OUT TO THE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE WAS A "CLICKING" WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND THAT IT WAS LOOSE. HE STATED TO ME THAT THIS WAS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YEAR AND THAT IT WOULD GET PROGRESSIVELY WORST. I THEN ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL CONCERNING THIS ISSUE AND HE SAID NOT YET. I WOULD HAVE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED AND POSSIBLY AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
UPON EXITING HIGHWAY RAMP, WHILE STEERING A LEFT TURN OFF OF THE RAMP, I HEARD A FAIRLY LOUD THUD SOUND. ONCE I CAME OUT OF THE TURN THE SOUND DISAPPEARED. THIS NOISE WAS STARTLING, AS I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR. I REVIEWED THE CARFAX AND DID NOT NOTE ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS OR DAMAGE REPORTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY ONE PREVIOUS OWNER WITH A PERSONAL LEASE. I HAVE HAD CONTROL ARM PROBLEMS IN THE PAST WITH MY PONTIAC GRAND AM AND THIS SOUND WAS VERY FAMILIAR TO ME. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS ISSUE AND ON THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY. THIS COULD CAUSE INJURY TO MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS IF THE CONTROL ARM BREAKS AND PULL FROM THE AXLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT AXLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE IN TRANSIT VEHICLE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, THIS IMMEDIATELY CAUSED A DIFFICULT OPERATING EXPERIENCE AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
CAR PUT IN PARK TO CALL A PERSONS HOUSE WAS AT HIS NEIGHBORS HOUSE NEXT DOOR FOR DIRECTIONS RAN OFF IN DITCH THOUGHT AT TIME I MIGHT HAVE LEFT CAR IN DRIVE .WENT DOWN BANK WHEN MY DOG AND I STOPPED CAR IN PARK DID NOT THINK NOTHING ELSE ABOUT IT UNTIL TODAY. WENT TO STORE CAME BACK PARKED 2012 SONATA IN DRIVEWAY LEFT CAR ON TO RUN IN HOUSE RIGHT QUICK SO DOG WOULD BE COOL. I PUT LEGS OUTSIDE CAR 2012 SONATA TOOK OFF LIKE A BAT OUT OF [XXX] THREW ME OUT ON THE GROUND. I HURT MY BACK AND REAR END VERY PAINFUL AND 2012 SONATA RAN INTO MY 2004 ANNIVERSARY EDITION COLLECTORS CAR WHICH WAS AS CLOSE TO NEW AS THEY GET. THEY HAVE A RECALL ON LINE THAT SAY THE DATE HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO SEND OUT NOTICES ABOUT A PIN BREAKING IN GEAR SHIFT CAUSING THE CAR TO GO IN PARK AND STILL BE IN DRIVE . I READ ON THIS SAME SIGHT ABOUT A WOMEN WHO HAD HER CAR DO HER THE SAME WAY AND HAD TO HAVE 10 STITCHES .I CALLED HYUNDAI DEALER NEAR BY THEY SAID BRING IT IN TO BE CHECKED .I ASKED WHO WOULD FIX MY 2 WRECKED CAR THAT WILL HAVE A LOTS LESS VALUE . HE TOLD ME TO CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY. SO I CALLED ACCIDENT WILL RAISE MY INSURANCE PAYMENT THAT WILL COST ME THE REST OF MY LIFE. DO NOT KNOW WHERE THEY GOT THIS THING AT THE END OF THE MILEAGE IS 30,000 ,32000 OR 45,000 MILES AND THEY ARE RELEASE FROM FAULT WHEN PEOPLE ARE COMING CLOSE TO GETTING KILLED OR CRIPPLE FOR LIFE. THESE CAR COMPANIES ARE GETTING AWAY WITH THINGS IF I DID IN MY BUSINESS THEY WOULD GET EVERYTHING I HAVE AND MAKE ME PAY FOR LIFE HOPE I HAVE BETTER LUCK THAN THESE OTHER PEOPLE. MY RECENT 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA (32K MILES) A/C STOPPED WORKING - TOOK IT TO DEALER. HE TOLD A STONE OR DEBRIS MAY HAVE HIT THE CONDENSER AND PUT THE HOLE IN IT AND ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (60K). ITS NO MISTAKE OF MINE EITHER. I ALWAYS DRIVE SAFE AND MAINTAIN MY CAR NICELY. DEALER ASKED ME TO PAY 800$ OUT OF MY POCKET FOR THE SAME. I AM PRETTY SURE OTHER SONATA OWNERS WILL ALSO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE BECAUSE OF BAD QUALITY OF PARTS & DESIGN FOR HYUNDAI SONATA. PURCHASED MY SONATA WITH 40K MILES. AT AROUND 70K MILES IT STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN, AT LOW SPPED. IT HAS ONLY GOT WORSE, IT NOW HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. THE METAL TO METAL HITTING SOUND IS MADE AT EVERY LEFT TO RIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER THE UPGRADE, THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEEDS UP BY 4 - 5 MILES PER HOUR WHEN IT IS SET. FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU SET IT AT 65 MPH, IT WILL SPEED UP TO 69 OR 70 MPH AND THEN SLOW BACK DOWN TO 65. IT DOES THIS WHEN YOU INITIALLY SET THE SPEED OR IF YOU BRAKE AND THEN HIT THE "RESUME" BUTTON. IN THE CASE OF "RESUME", IF YOU INITIALLY SET IT AT 65 MPH AND USE THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN USE THE "RESUME" BUTTON, THE CAR WILL SPEED UP TO 69 OR 70 BEFORE GOING BACK DOWN TO 65. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL DO THIS NO MATTER WHAT SPEED YOU INITIAL SET IT AT. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND THE SERVICE PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE. AFTER REPLACING THE WIRING HARNESS IT WAS ONE PROBLEM AFTER THE NEXT THAT THE DEALERSHIP CONTRIBUTED TO THE OVERHEATING. 3 TURBO'S REPLACED, THE FRONT AND REAR WIRING HARNESS, THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE, SOME TUBES AND HOSES AND 6 MOS LATER....THE CAR SEEMS TO BE RUNNING AGAIN BUT NOW THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION...UGH. I TRIED TO HAVE HYUNDAI LET ME OUT OF THE LEASE SINCE I ONLY HAD A FEW MONTHS LEFT. CONSUMER AFFAIRS PASSED THE BUCK TO HYUNDAI LEASE AND VICE VERSA. IT IS A NIGHTMARE TO WORK WITH THIS CORPORATION. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND WAS ABLE TO GET REIMBURSED FOR TWO PAYMENTS SINCE THEY HAD MY CAR IN FOR REPAIR FOR OVER 60 DAYS BUT THEY WOULD NOT LET ME OUT OF THE LEASE. WILL NEVER HAVE A HYUNDAI AGAIN BECAUSE OF HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AND THE WAY THEY PASS THE BUCK, WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY ARE A HORRIBLE CORPORATION. *TR
I HAD JUST PULLED INTO A SMALL RURAL PARKING LOT AND PARKED FACING A WOOD FENCE IN THE AFTERNOON. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD ABOUT TEN FEET, KNOCKING OVER A WOOD FENCE POST AND INCURRING $3,000 DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND SLAMMED IT INSTANTLY AS THE CAR LURCHED. FORTUNATELY, NO PERSON WAS WALKING ALONG THE SIDEWALK, AND I HAD MY SEAT BELT IN PLACE. I INSISTED THE CAR BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER RATHER THAN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, SINCE I WANTED TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCELERATION MALFUNCTION. THE DEALER SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG, OTHER THAN THE FRONT END DAMAGE. I INSISTED THAT HYUNDAI NATIONAL SEND OUT AN ENGINEER TO CHECK THE CAR. I HAVE ALSO FOUND A REPORT ON THE INTERNET FROM KMOV.COM NEWS IN ST. LOUIS 2/28/13, THAT THREE LOCAL OWNERS THERE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE CASE DETAILED IN THE NEWS REPORT WAS EXACTLY LIKE MY EXPERIENCE OF SUDDEN LURCHING ACCELERATION FROM A PARKED POSITION, BUT THE HYUNDAI ENGINEER REPORTED NOTHING WAS WRONG. HOWEVER, OUR EXPERIENCE DOCUMENTS AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM UNRELATED TO DRIVER ERROR. I HAVE TOLD HYUNDAI THAT I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS CAR.
I WAS GETTING READY FOR WORK AND THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS -2 DEGREES SO I WENT TO WARM UP THE CAR FOR 20 MINS AND THEN STARTED TO HEAD OUT TO WORK. AS I WAS LEAVING NOT EVEN 5 MINS LATER I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. SO I PULLED OVER AND STARTED TO SEE SMOKE, THEN I STARTED TO LOOK AROUND TO FIND OUT WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM AND I SEE SMOKE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BACK SEAT RIGHT BEHIND THE DRIVER SEAT. SO I STARTED TAKING MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS OUT OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER REMOVING MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS, I WENT TO THE CAR AND NOW THERE WAS MORE SMOKE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE REAR SEAT CLOSEST TO THE REAR DOOR DRIVER SIDE. SO THEN I PULLED UP THE SEAT AND I SEE FLAMES, AND THERE WERE FLAMES, I CALL 911 AND THEY CAME LIKE IN 5 MINS.I'M JUST BLESSED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE MY KIDS WITH ME. *TR
WAS DRIVING 35 MPH MAKING A TURN WHEN I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE. WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST. CHECKED OIL AND WAS LOW. ADDED 1 QRT OF OIL. DROVE HOME ABOUT 2 MILES AND KNOCKING BECAME EXTREMELY LOUD. TOOK IT TO LEN STOLER HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT EXHAUST MANIFOLD, DRIVE BELT, PISTONS, AND VALVES NEED TO BE REPLACED. BASICALLY, $6300.00 WORTH OF WORK. CAR IS UP TO DATE ON ALL MAINTENANCE. NO OTHER ISSUES WITH CAR. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ENGINE DAMAGE AND NO HELP WAS GIVEN. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ENGINE ISSUES. HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE! *TR
