This 2015 Hyundai Sonata LTD ([XXX]) falsely indicates CEL/emissions light. When the vehicle is started and the temperature is appx. 20*F or lower, the indicator immediately displays. It is solid and does not blink. This happened on -3- days this week, over approximately 7 of -9- total ignitions in that time. Various forums show the same issue. Hyundai must recall this because it is either a false warning or else is a component within their control with which they failed to manufacture safely (thus contributing to the problem(s) and CEL). While driving on 395 in heavy traffic headed home I hit the accelerator and the car slowed down. The cars behind me almost hit me and swerved to prevent a accident pile up. I was horrified, shaking and crying because I knew I was about to be slammed from the rear. I hit the gas again and I heard a clinking noise. I knew I would not make it home. All of the lights in the dash came on. I pulled to a safe place (downtown near the Capital) and had it towed to the dealer. It was the first exit I could take. 3 weeks later, the dealer is saying it was an engine issue. My car is still covered under warranty but it appears as if they are trying to avoid replacing it. A rep called from the dealership asking about oil and I told him there was no warning lights that ever came on the dash to indicate anything was wrong; everything happened at once.

215/55 R 17 My right rear tire has been losing air for at least 6 months. My tire pressure light is constantly on. I had my tire inspected and was told all 4 tires are compromised. The mechanic told me that my tires were wavy??? and that the tread inside my tires were damaged and I needed to replace all 4 tires. He also said my car would not pass inspection because of this defect in the tires. I feel my safety is at risk because of the inconsistent pressure that the tires may blow at any time.
Car fire. Car was brought in for service on a Saturday. Car started smoking on drive home. Called Hyundai and they said it was okay. Monday car was booked to be brought back to Hyundai because smoking wouldn’t stop and car caught fire. Incident 1/17/22. No inspection to date, no warning lights went off. When the headlights are set to automatic and driving at night, the headlights and daytime running lights will spontaneously turn off when signaling a turn. This is an intermittent problem. The dash indicator still shows that the headlights are on but they are off and it has nearly caused an accident. When the selector is set to “on” the issue has not yet happened. Dealership stated that it would be hard to recreate problem.

My Sonata is burning excessive oil since January 2022 have to add a quart a week but there is no oil leak.
Vehichle goes into limp mode on highway causing a drastic reduction in speed. Dash says hybrid alert do not drive. Loss of speed put me in danger due to loss of power and vehicle control. Dealer claims it is a bad brake booster that caused car to go into limp mode… Want to charge me 3k to fix.
Driving my sonata in town 40 miles per hour got to a light and check engine light started flashing I pulled over and parked it in an advanced auto parking lot parts man come out put scanner in car and read code p00137 knock sensor so I had it towed to home due to I called hyundai and mechanic said it would be around the 16th before he could look at it. I tried to start cat again and would not crank I went on line and jumped car from relay and motor is seized up. Have about 135 ,000 miles roughly and now looking into problem car drinks oil like fierce and now motor is bad
Vehicle info: 2015 Sonata Se. 97450 Mileage. As with most all complaints with this engine, it is deteriorating slowly as the knock sensor code P1326 has sensed a knock. A private mechanic has verified that a rod bearing is either bent or broken and knocking against the engine. This is after two Hyundai dealers have denied even inspecting my vehicle. Due to the title status of my vehicle (rebuilt title) Hyundai dealers (King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL and Coconut Creek Hyundai in Coconut Creek, FL) are denying repairs because the engine has no active campaigns or recalls on the engine even though Hyundai Motors of America has extended the warranty to a lifetime duration for this exact issue. This is a huge liability situation as these engines are known to catch fire for this very issue and Hyundai/Kia has been fined $140 Million for not acting sooner on this matter. These vehicles have been known to catch fire inside the dealership service center while going through diagnostic testing by certified mechanics. I have had the Campaign 953 serviced in 2018, which was a software update to alert owners when the engine is already failing (sensing a bearing rod broken). This campaign did not address the faulty engine but only alert you. Hyundai Motor America has told me that a Hyundai dealership should not deny me warranty coverage however every dealership in Palm Beach and Broward counties are denying my service order approval. Service managers refuse to send in a pre-authorization to Hyundai Motor America despite corporates approval of this warranty coverage therefore nobody wants to take responsibility nor liability for a known safety defect in Hyundai engines.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 40 MPH, the engine seized. The contact was unsure whether any warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
The engine is burning over 5 quarts of oil between 600 and 1000 miles. The engine is the 2.4 litre and it is doing the same as the 2014 and previous model. It is also known that the 2016 has the same issue. Hyundai refuses to replace the motor or cover any cost. They are saying that the car is out of warranty when it has been in the shop for oil consumption pre-mileage but they said it was normal to be a quart or 2 low. Now the motor will be empty by 600 to 1000 miles. The dealers wants to put chemicals in the motor at a cost of 200 plus with now promise of resolving the issue. In addition it has been proven that these quick fixes are catastrophic and will cost more than an engine maybe a life in traffic.
I took my vehicle to the dealership to have recommended service completed which included the fuel tank air filter. To complete this operation, the mechanic performed an M.P.I which showed that the fuel pump was leaking. I'm not an expert on anything, but I can't imagine a time that fuel leak is good. What's really concerning is that if I hadn't had the vehicle in for routine maintenance, this problem wouldn't have been found which could have led to catastrophic issues. I find it hard to believe that it's typical that a fuel pump fail with under 60,000 miles on the vehicle- who knows how long the fuel pump had been leaking. My tech at the dealership told me that they have seen this same problem with other 2015 Sonatas so I am certainly not the only one to experience this issue. I had to return the car to the dealership a few months ago for a recall that involved a fuel leak. I wonder if all of the fuel leak issues have been dealt with, fuel leak wise, with this vehicle. The sub total for this repair was $817.66. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The engine is consuming excessive oil. My vehicle is available for inspection The problem has been confirmed by an oil service company Valvoline in Munster, Indiana The "oil" lamp appeared on my dashboard for a brief moment. I filed claim with BBB Arbitration for the Hyundai Theta Engine Recall but since my engine hasn't blown up, they will probably deny it. Case # HEE2220129 Jump vs Hyundai Theta Engine Settlement Extended My engine is consuming a quart of oil every 3oo miles or less. 1)12/15/2021 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 101,230 Oil services, based on being “Offstick” resulted in new oil filter and engine cleaner. 4/25/22 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 103,003. Only 1,773 miles between the oil changes. 7/11/2022 – Oil is off stick. Mileage is 104,423. Only 1,420 miles between the oil changes I contacted Webb Hyundai in Merrillville, Indiana for a recall that needed to be performed. I subsequently contacted Hyundai Customer Service and informed them of my oil consumption problem. Given a PA Case number and told to ask Webb Hyundia to perform an oil consumption test. 7/28/2022 Webb Hyunda They indicated that they added ½ quart of oil to my car I requested it to be added. A ½ quart of oil on 7/28 after I had 3 quarts of oil added on 7/11/2022. Being at “at stick” level results is terrifying as my engine could combust. Plus the additional costs of cleaning out the engine as well. Please refer to Webb Hyundai Vehicle Inspection Report for more details pages 1-5. NOTE: The category “UNDER HOOD” specifically next to fluids. The box is marked in RED. Which means “requires immediate attention”. 6)On 8/17/2022 I had my oil checked and in ONLY 400 miles I was 1 quart low. 7)On 9/10/2022 I had my oil checked and in ONLY 286 miles I was 1 quart low.
When automatic headlights are on there are time that the headlamps will turn off when engaging the turn signals until turn signals are disengaged.
My engine light has been on for over one year. I took it to the dealership to see what was going on and to get an oil change. The dealership stated that there could be a variety of issues and that they would turn the light off and when it came back on to bring it back to them. The staff was not the most professional so I opted to not take it back unless there was a significant issue. My car constantly accelerates when I am on the brakes at a light and then when I let off the brakes, the car accelerates before I put my foot on the gas. I recently backed out of my parking space and without my foot on the gas, I bumped into a neighbor's car. There was no damage to their car but my car has a dent in it. Everyone is safe and fine but this could have been way worse if I was in a parking lot or on the road. The car does not accelerate when I put my foot on the gas on the highway either. I have had some close calls getting onto the highway because I can press the pedal to the floor and not get the speed needed to go fast enough. I am making plans to take it back to the dealership and report my dent because this acceleration issue is very annoying when driving and I know that it is dangerous in situations where I should be able to shift the gear and not be moving fast enough to get a dent. I hope Hyundai really looks at this issue and helps us out. Thank you.
My vehicle started losing oil between oil changes. Not leaking on the ground. I looked it up and found out this is a very common issue. Just my luck. My vehicle now has major engine issues. Knocking in the engine, shaking. I looked it up and to not my surprise, very common. My vehicle is available for inspection. Safety wise I was traveling 70 on the interstate and the engine just quit and decelerated very quickly with cars driving by fast. I am getting the vehicle checked inspected Monday 11/29 I had it towed to a garage. I will also contact the local Hyundai dealer. No warnings lamps prior to incident
We received a notice for an IMPORTANT Safety Recall for our 2015 Hyundai concerning a turn signal malfunction. According to the information given to us, this problem could understandably be very dangerous and life threatening. So we tried to schedule an appointment at our nearest Hyundai dealer, but were told they weren’t even taking appointments until January (So much for taking care of a dangerous situation). This dealer was San Tan Hyundai in Gilbert, AZ! If this repair takes only an hour or so as the notice predicted, I’m wondering why such a delay for an emergency service? We continued to call around and finally scheduled for a Dec. 1st appointment at another dealer. That we can live with, but their is no excuse for a similar dealer not being able to deal with this problem sooner. The person on the call was not very polite, which is par for service it seems now days. Anyway, I think this dealer should be noted in your records in case you receive other complaints. Thank you.
My brakes locked on the highway and I could not utilize the brakes to slow down the vehicles. I went off the meridian and finally came to a stop. I pumped the brakes and then they started to work again. I was able to cautiously get back on the road and make it to my house but they locked again a few miles later by my exit. I was able to get them to start working again and made it home. There were no warning lamps or messages nor any warning that led me to this. I could’ve easily been in a serious if not fatal crash
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY SUNROOF CLOSED AND THE WHOLE THING CAME DETACHED. THE WINDOW SHATTERED. AND PART OF THE PIECE THAT HOLDS IT FELL OFF. I SEE A RECALL PREVIOUS FOR THIS ISSUE.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space, the parking brake inadvertently engaged, and the rear passenger's side wheel locked up. The BRAKE HOLD light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with electric parking brake motor failure. The contact was informed that the electric parking brake motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Check Engine Light began flashing and Oil Pressure Light illuminated while operating vehicle under normal conditions on the interstate. Vehicle was pulled over and towed to local Hyundai dealership. The dealership states the engine has failed.
Engine started knocking out of nowhere took it to the dealership to see if I had a recall was told that I needed to replace engine which would cost between 8k-10k . The recalls for engines on Hyundai sonatas were for 2011-2013 and 2016 . Not really understanding how they skip a year with everyone with this year . I don’t have the money to replace engine
While traveling on the interstate, the car started shuddering. Pulled off and went to auto part store and they read the code #4 misfire. Took car to my mechanic and he said #4 cylinder was dead. Proceeded to take car to dealership and they said #4 cylinder had burn valve with hole in valve. We hey gave a quote for engine replacement. Took car back to my mechanic and he replaced engine at a cost of $5466.28. The replacement engine was a 2014 with 13k miles. The car only had 107186 miles at time of incident.
while driving about 6/7 lights on the dash comes on and the car stops. This happened several times and I took it to my auto mechanic Christian Brothers at Dacula, Ga. They said it is a soft ware problem and Hyundai USA does not accepts their are any software malfunction problems. Sometimes the car would start back again and other times it will not. Therefore I had to tow my car twice to the garage to have them check it out and fix it. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
On Saturday, October 30, 2021, I was driving down a heavily traveled road with my daughter when my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport coasted to a stop. I still had power and everything else was still on but the car was just dead and wouldn't start. There were all kinds of indicator lights that were on but I didn't know why my vehicle had just died on me. My son had to put it in neutral and back it off of the busy road we were on and onto a side street into a neighbor so we were in a safe place. We waited for a tow truck for over two hours in the heat. I had it towed to a repair shop unaware of the engine recall that was out on my vehicle. I was told by the repair shop that the oil in my vehicle was black and my engine had seized up.
Hello, I took my car to my closest dealership Brandon Hyndai, because my car stop working properly. The car engine warning light came on followed by a knocking noise, when I try to accelerate , it reduce the power , it smells like burn. It’s been 3 weeks since my car has been sitting at the Brandon Hyundai dealership parking lot without a full diagnostic, the only thing they have told me it’s that it gave them the P1326 code that it’s engine related, but they needed to run more test before starting an engine replacement submission due to a recall. My car only has 69000 miles.I have been checking almost daily to see if they have done something but so far, they haven’t. They also didn’t provided me with a lender car, because they didn’t have one or so they say. I have waited patiently, but 3 weeks it’s too long for a diagnosis and I have been taking a bus to work because I cannot afford to rent a car , that the dealer is not even 100 percent certain if I will be reimbursed for it. It’s been an stressful 3 weeks and it seem this issue is not being taken serious, plus they also want to charge me 300 dollars for them to start the engine replacement submission, which I he agreed to as I don’t seem to have another choice. I am desperate, because I am not sure what will happen next. I had to call corporate and started a case with them, but it can take up to a week or more for them to contact me. The worst part is not knowing and there is no much information about it.And the coworkers at the dealership are not being helpful at all, I am not sure if because they don’t have much knowledge about it or they really don’t care about the customers.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle started shuddering and stalled. The contact noticed smoke coming out of the hood of the vehicle. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of a bystander. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for repair. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a claim with diagnostic report to the manufacturer ; however, the manufacturer declined to cover the repair. The contact followed up with the manufacturer and was informed that they could not assist as she failed to complete an unknown software update, under Service Campaign Number: 553, designed to report vehicle imbalances prior to the engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
During weekend road trip, on the way back, engine has developed knocking noise, unusual vibrations, and loss of power. Car was able to make it home at low speeds with minimal acceleration. Oil check revealed that all of oil was burned up over a few days, as the oil check before the weekend trip showed full levels. Dealer would not even accept looking at the car for over a month, before their first available appointment. Independent mechanic confirmed engine knocking, burned up oil. They recommended engine replacement, but were not able to complete the job as the company would not make replacement parts available to them. Dealer has finally accepted car, also confirmed knocking noise and burned up oil. It would take another month for dealer to produce a repair quote -- $14,000 for engine replacement and additional 2 months of wait time for some parts to arrive -- much higher than what I understand it typically costs for a full engine replacement, but the dealer is left as the only option to charge however much they want, as independent services are blocked from acquiring needed parts. 87,000 mi in just over 6 years of use. No warning lights on the dash. No OBD status codes. All together this would add up to at least 5 months of inoperable car, and what looks to be a very inflated repair bill. Dealer is recommending a purchase of a new car from them instead.
Power steering assist failed upon making a right hand turn. Steering failure led to an injury accident. Vehicle was inspected by Green Light Auto and EDR codes retrieved. No codes specific to steering was found. Vehicle was inspected by insurance adjustor. No warning lights or other indications of steering loss was present before the accident caused by the steering loss. Issue seems similar to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V325000
I was driving at 55 mph and vehicle stall and cut off pulled side the road tried to crank back up and nothing happened. after each oil change no oil show on stick and also when i get an oil change they tell me barely any oil in vehicle. this has happened every since i purchased the veh on Dec 10 2019
The sunroof exploded while driving on the highway showering the vehicles behind me with glass causing drivers behind me to swerve and or change lanes violently. The explosion was so loud that it caused me to brake hard and to swerve. Hyundai has acknowledged the problem and issued an extended warranty on the sunroof which they are not honoring. My car was inspected by the glass company that repaired the sunroof and after the work was completed, by a Hyundai dealership. There was no warning. The sunroof just violently exploded nearly causing me to loose control of the car. Fortunately I had the sunroof visor closed which kept glass from hitting me and very possibly a loss of control of the vehicle. Can you help me to get Hyundai to honor their warranty?
the trunk latch need to be replaced the dealer ship has not fixed it since aug 2021 i cant do business this is my work car
The car stalls and the acceleration was very weak. Hesitation while driving. Jerking badly after going from a stop sign, stop light, or up a slight hill. Check engine light started blinking. I took it by Autozone to test the light. Comes out to be a knock sensor and wiring harness. I have a 2015 Sonata with 98,600 miles.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently while the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the sparks plug and the PCV valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the vehicle check engine light recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed but the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was taken to another dealer St. Charles Hyundai where it was diagnosed but the check engine light continuously illuminated. In addition, the contact mentioned while driving, there was a pop noise and noticed white smoke was coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side and exit the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the tow lot and was destroyed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and was awaiting diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
Turn signal sometimes does not work or causes opposite side to activate leading to increased risk of crash, no remedy provided currently from current recall on vehicle. There's no warning as to when this can happen which leads to driving the vehicle a risky bet.
My car keeps stalling while I am driving and sometimes when I turn to a street and is consuming motor oil with in a mile or less. It has been inspected by a Hyundai dealership and no leaks were found, consumption test has been done and they said that they can’t do nothing about it because I am the second owner. Hyundai needs to extend warranties to second owners as well if the car was bought through a certified dealership. I trusted their brand and dealership. I have been going back and forth with the dealership. My car is in the Napoleon Hyundai dealership in Carmel, Indiana. I have a video explaining the situation and showing my engine measuring stick with very low oil.
It seems that the white 2015, 2016 and 2017 models need to be recalled due to a paint issue. From my understanding there is a "defect" with only the white paint and it seems the vehicles are peeling in the same exact spots as I have shown here. I took my vehicle to Hyundai of Greer on Wade Hampton Blvd in Greer, SC and they told me I would have to pay out of pocket to get these spots taken care of because the original manufacturer warranty has expired and CPO warranty will not cover. Clearly there is a defect or flaw in the white paint and consumers should not have to pay for such issue.
The car takes off on its own. I've noticed several forums from the same make and model and year are having issues so I wanted to file a report. I'm out about $2k so far and potentially another $2k on a car with only 40,000 miles on it and it's only driven roughly 200 miles a month, if that, for Dr. appointments. When you put it in drive it will get up to 13mph without ever touching the gas.
