AIR INTAKE WAS REPLACED 3X. 3RD TIME LEAD TO TURBO FAILURE. THOMPSON HYUNDAI REPLACES TURBO BUT DOESN'T PUT ANTIFREEZE, TIGHTEN OIL SCREW (WHICH BLEW OIL ALL OVER ENGINE), AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN TEST DRIVE IT. DROVE VEHICLE, SMOKE STARTS POURING FROM THE VENTS, ENGINE OVERHEATS. VEHICLE GETS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP. CURRENTLY VEHICLE HAS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, ROUGH IDLE AND DOESN'T ACCELERATE. ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE LOSS OF ACCELERATION. ALSO, THE SUNROOF WINDDEFLECTOR WHICH WAS RECALLED IS NOW COMING OFF AGAIN. DEALERSHIP USED A SMALL AMOUNT OF GLUE TO ADHESIVE IT BACK TO THE CAR. THE GLUE HAS FAILED.HYUNDAI NEEDS BETTER SERVICE TECHS. THEY HAVE DESTROYED MY CAR.
I CRANKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS SHAKING A LITTLE, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS STRANGE AND WHEN REVERSED AND STARTED TO DRIVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE CAR DIED. IT HAD 59156 MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. HYUNDAI TOWED IT TO THE DEALER FOR ME AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET ANY ERROR CODES OR SEE ANYTHING THAT WAS WRONG WITH IT.. THEY SAID BRING IT BACK IF THERE ARE MORE ISSUES.HYUNDAI KEPT THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A WEEK TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG..
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS ABOUT THE CHANGE LANE AND I FELT THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARDER TO TURN THAN USUAL. I WAS TURNING RIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST STREET AND PARKED. I LEFT THE CAR RUNNING. AFTER A MINUTE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED I COULDN'T MOVE IT. THEN, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED OFF AND THE AC STOPPED. MANY WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND I COULD NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP (IT IS UNDER WARRANTY) AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY. THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY AND SAID IT WAS FINE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK, PAID FOR BATTERY AND AFTER 20MILES I FELT AGAIN SOME GLITCHES IN THE STEERING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ANYMORE. THE CAR WAS ON BUT THE STEERING WAS LOCKED. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND AGAIN, I COULD NOT START IT. I AM REALLY AFRAID BECAUSE IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL. I WOULD NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHAT IS WORSE, THE OFFICIAL DEALER 'FIXED IT' BUT THE SAME ISSUE AROSE AFTER 20 MILES AGAIN. WHAT IF I WAS TO GO ON A TRIP? I AM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE STEERING. AND I PAID FOR THE BATTERY WHICH IN THE END MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM AT ALL. I FEEL RIPPED OFF AND THE CAR IS ONLY 44,400MILES AND IT IS 3 YRS OLD.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE BLOWER RELAY HAD MELTED TO THE BOX IT WAS IN. AS SUCH, HE WAS GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT HAD I NOT BROUGHT IT IN, THE VEHICLE COULD CATCH FIRE WHILE DRIVING. I TOLD HIM THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HYUNDAI SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE BILL. HYUNDAI SAID NO AND THE BILL IS GOING TO BE $5,000.
WHEN TRYING TO PARK MY CAR IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. THEN I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND BEGAN TO HAVE A LOSS OF POWER IN FORWARD GEARS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED IN FOR SERVICE AT THAT POINT
WHENEVER I ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY MY ENGINE WOULD REV TO A HIGH RPM WITH A DELAYED REACTION IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR ACCELERATED. ALSO, WHENEVER I SLOW DOWN MY CAR FOR A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, MY ENGINE WOULD REV TO A HIGH RPM TO SLOW DOWN MY CAR. I ASKED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS, THEY SAID THE EVERYTHING IS OKAY, HOWEVER I CAN TELL RIGHT AWAY THERE'S A DIFFERENCE WITH MY 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA VS MY GIRLFRIENDS 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA, EXACTLY THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AND TRIM, BUT THE DRIVE IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. ALSO, I CAN ALSO TELL BECAUSE THE MPG ON MY CAR IS FAR LOWER THAN MY GIRLFRIENDS. AND SHE HAS A HEAVY FOOT ON THE GAS PETAL. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ALSO RESET THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR, BUT NO DIFFERENCE.
THE GAS TANK LEVER GOES DOWN AS IF I WERE SIPPING ON THE GASOLINE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE USED VEHICLE AROUND JUNE OR JULY 2018
WHENEVER I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE MY VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE, THE RPM'S IDLE AT A DANGEROUSLY LOW LEVEL THAT UPON RELEASING THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO DRIVE AGAIN, THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS AND STRUGGLES TO TAKE OFF. A COUPLE OF TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS ACTUALLY STALLED OUT WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND A FIX TO THIS PROBLEM IS BY KEEPING THE AIR CONDITIONING ON WHICH APPEARS TO MAKE THE VEHICLE RPM'S RUN A LITTLE HIGHER IN TURN NOT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO GET TO DANGEROUSLY LOW RPMS. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THERE ARE NO RECALLS OUT THERE PERTAINING TO THIS WHILE OTHER INDIVIDUALS APPEAR TO BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. DEALERSHIP STATES THAT IT IS NORMAL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO SO I AM NOT SURE IF THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE PRIOR OWNER. SEEMS LIKE IF HYUNDAI WERE TO INCREASE THE RPMS WHILE IT IS IN AN IDLE STATE (IN DRIVE) THEN THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN.
THE FACTORY HANKOOK VENTUS S1 NOBLE 2 235-45-18R ARE CRACKING AND SEPARATING. LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A RECALLED ISSUED ON A FEW DIFFERENT SIZES FOR THE SAME THING. I SOUGHT SERVICE FOR LOUD LIFTER NOISE AT 50,000 MILES, BUT WAS TOLD THE NOISE WAS FROM AN AFTER MARKET (JIFFY LUBE (FRAM FILTER)). THE SERVICE DEPT. FRANK HYUNDAI, CHULA VISTA, CA DRAINED MY NEW OIL, AND DID A COMPLETE NEW OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. THE LIFTER NOISE CONTINUED. AT APPROX. 122,000 THE ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK WHILE ON THE FREEWAY - MASON AUTO, IMPERIAL BEACH, CA DID A COMPLETE ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINED THE NOISE AS ENGINE KNOCK. FROM LIFTER NOISE TO ENGINE KNOCK. I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR OF COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE! MASON AUTO OF IMPERIAL BEACH, CA INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS THE FOURTH HYUNDAI THEY HAD DIAGNOSED WITH ENGINE KNOCK RECENTLY.
MY 2015 SONATA 2.0 SPORT ENGINE STALLED WHILE I WAS WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC (OAKLAND) PITTSBURGH, PA. VEHICLE WAS TYING UP TRAFFIC SO BAD THAT A UNIVERSITY POLICE OFFICER HELPED ME PUSH VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD. GOT VEHICLE TOWED TO #1 COCHRAN HYUNDAI MONROEVILLE, PA. WAS INFORMED VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED UP AND A REPLACEMENT WOULD BE NEEDED. BEEN WITHOUT VEHICLE SINCE MID MAY 2018, WHILE STILL PAYING CAR NOTE, INSURANCE AND CAR REGISTRATION! I NEED TO BE COMPENSATED!!! LUCKILY, ENGINE IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT STILL A BIG INCONVENIENCE!!!! HYUNDAI HOW WILL YOU SMOOTH THIS OVER WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS???
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHILE TURNING AND WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROADWAY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,715. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON 5-6-18 I WAS ON THE BELTWAY (FREEWAY) DRIVING WITH MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF OPEN. ALL OF A SUDDEN A HEAR THIS POP AND THE MESH WIND VISER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS BROKEN THEN I REACH FOR IT AND ANOTHER POP SOUND WITH RATTLING NOISE THEN ANOTHER POP IS HEARD. BEFORE I COULD DO ANYTHING I SEE THE ENTIRE SUNROOF GLASS ON THAT SIDE BOUNCING. ALMOST CRASHING I WAS ABLE TO HIT THE CLOSE BUTTON SOMEHOW AND MAKE IT TO MY MOM'S HOUSE. MY STEPDAD LOOKED AT IT AND IT WAS COMPLETELY OFF THE TRACK ON THAT ONE SIDE THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS STUCK. THE ONLY THING WE COULD DO WAS USE A STRAP TO HOLD IT AND KEEP IT FROM FALLING OFF. ONE OF THE SCARIEST THINGS TO HAPPEN TO ME WHILE DRIVING.
ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING AT A RED LIGHT STOP. WAS NOT ABLE TO START IT UP FOR SEVERAL TIMES.
I HAVE A BRAND NEW CAR IT'S A LEFT OVER 2015 THE SONATA CAME WITH HANKOOK TIRES 235/R45/18 THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SAME TIRE BUT 275/R45/18 VENUS NOBLE 2 BRAND. I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE I HAD A FRONT BLOW OUT AND NOW 2 MORE TIRES HAVE BUBLES AND A SMALL CRACK IN TIRES THIS CAR HAS NE ER HIT ANYTHING AND IS BRAND NEW HANKOOK DOES NOT WANT TO HELP SO I AM ASKING TO ADD THIS TO THE SAME RECALL AS THE OTHER ONES THAT ARE I HAVE THE SAME TIRES BUT NO HELP FROM HANKOOK TIRE.
1) GAS TANK NEVER TAKES MORE THAN 15 GALLONS OF GAS WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS SUPPOSED TO HOLD 18 GALLONS. ONE DAY THE FUEL COMPUTER SHOWED THE RANGE AS 15 MILES AND THE GAS TANK STILL TOOK ONLY 15 GALLONS FROM THE PUMP EVEN WHEN THE CAR GETS A MILEAGE OF MORE THAN 30 MPG. ALSO, THE PUMP ABRUPTLY STOPS IN BETWEEN AND I HAVE TO RESTART PUMPING THE FUEL. THIS IS EITHER A FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM SHOWING THE GAS TANK IS NEARLY EMPTY WHEN ITS REALLY NOT OR A GAS TANK PROBLEM. ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. 2) THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IS REALLY JERKY AND SLAMS THE BREAKS SUDDENLY AND ACCELERATES ABRUPTLY RESULTING IN A VERY JERKY RIDE.
Engine burns 2 quarts of oil a week. Took it in for oil consumption tests and Hyundai figures out ways to not replace these faulty GDI Engines. Also car has a strong gas smell inside car. Maybe gas leaking. Airbag warning light has been on for years. Took it to the dealer in the past they said it's ok(Hub Hyundai Katy TX) but I don't feel confident.
SUN ROOF SQUEAKING. BROUGHT THE CAR TO DEALER TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE. THEY TEMPORARILY FIX IT BY LUBRICATING. ISSUE HAS COME BACK SO BAD THAT IT SOUNDS THAT THE CAR IS FALLING APART. WHEN I PUSH UP ON THE SUN ROOF OR I OPEN IT IT DISAPPEARS.
THE SEAT PANEL UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE HAS BROKEN AND SEPARATED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT DUE TO A SMALL PLASTIC PIECE BRAKING THAT HOLD THE PANEL ON. NOW WHEN I GET OUT OF THE CAR, THE CONTROLS FOR THE SEAT OPERATION PUSH DOWN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR FRAME AND THE SEAT BEGINS TO RISE UP. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM OTHER THAN WHEN GETTING BACK INTO THE CAR, I HAVE PARTIALLY TORN MY MCL IN MY RIGHT KNEE DUE TO THE SEAT BEING HIGHER THAN EXPECTED AND CAUSED MY RIGHT LEG TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AS I ENTERED THE CAR, AND FORCED IT BACK OUT TOWARDS THE OPENED DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THIS WAS DONE IN APRIL OF 2018. HYUNDAI OFFERED ME A CASH SETTLEMENT, BUT THEY DID NOT GUARANTEE ME THAT PART WOULD CONTINUE TO BE REPAIRED - IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI (925 N STATE ROAD 7, PLANTATION, FL 33317, (954) 388-9627), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
My Hyundai Sonata 2015 built in Alabama in on December 13, 2014. I recently found out that a problem I've been having for the last five years with my driver's seatbelt not retracting when it is disengaged, was a recall issue for Hyundai Sonatas 2011 through May 2014. I also found out when I contacted the NHTSA, that an auto manufacturer has the discretion to determine which car models are anticipated to be affected. If you look at the complaint log for Hyundai Sonatas 2015 4DR FWD, this seatbelt retraction issue is specified at least 15 times dating from Sept 5, 2015 to April 3, 2023. Below is my experience with this same issue, which is still ongoing, and has affected my safety and confidence in my car. My car has less than 45,000 miles on it. Around 2018, my driver side seat belt started to periodically not retract automatically when it was disengaged from the buckle. I needed to start manually feed the seat belt back into its mounting or it would just lay on the floor. I brought the issue to the service tech at a dealership in March 2018 and the problem was not even recorded on the invoice and was dismissed as not evident to the service tech. It was also not recorded with other mechanical issues at all or honestly in my car's official service record.) The problem continued and started getting worse during in 2020, but I was not driving much due to the pandemic. I brought the issue to the attention at a different dealership in June 2022, during servicing for a recall campaign and a continuously lit check engine light. The seatbelt retraction issue was verified but I was told I would have to pay $700 to have it repaired. No effort was made by either of the service dealerships to address the safety issue experienced by Hyundai Sonata 2015 cars with the exact same issue identified for Hyundai Sonata 2014 cars or Hyundai Sonata cars manufactured at the same plant. Clearly, the problem is still not addressed.
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2015, CURRENTLY THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 14,000 MILES. WITHIN THIS 3 YEAR AND LOW MILEAGE I HAD EXPERIENCE SEVERAL PROBLEMS 1.- TIRES BREAKS EASILY 2.- ELECTRICAL WIRES INSULATOR HAS BEEN APPLIED WITH VEGETABLES SOLUTION, MAKING FATAL ATTRACTION TO RODENTS 3.- BATTERY DOESN'T LAST OVER 12,000 MILES 4.- SEAT BELTS ARE DEFECTIVES, AND STILL IS 5.- BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSFER CASE THE IS A DRAGGING NOISE 6.- TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE? EXPENSIVE AND MALFUNCTION MAKING THIS SAFETY ISSUE DANGEROUS. 7.- RADIO......PART OF THE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE STOP WORKING IF YOU STOP HYUNDAI SO CALLED BLUE LINK SERVICE 8.- SCREEN AT MY DASHBOARD WENT BLANK 3 TIMES AT 3,000. 7,000 AND 11,000 MILES 9.- WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF AT STOP LIGHT (THANKS GOD IT HAPPENS WHEN I WAS DRIVING LOCALLY) ALL THIS HAPPENS WITHIN THIS 3 YEARS THAT I OWN THE CAR
CAR IS NOT ACCELERATING WHEN PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL, WHILE IN MOTION WILL NOT GO MORE THAN 15 MILES PER HOUR. HAVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 27000 MILES ON IT.
1/2 MILE AFTER STARTING MY VEHICLE AND DRIVING APPROX 30 MPH, MY CAR SHUTTERED AND SHOOK. PULLED OVER AND IT SEEMED TO FIX ITSELF SO I CONTINUED 23 MILES TO WORK. WAS APPROX 39 DEGREES ACCORDING TO CAR DASHBOARD. LEAVING WORK 9 HOURS LATER, I DROVE APPROX 1.5 MILES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, SPEED NO HIGHER THAN 25-30 MPH, CROSSED OVER RR TRACKS AND THE CAR SHUTTERED AND THEN SHUT OFF COMPLETELY ROLLING TO A STOP. THREW ON MY HAZARDS AND THE SCREEN INDICATED I SHOULD PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART. THE BATTERY LIGHT AND MASTER INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. CAR RESTARTED AND THE LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. WENT STRAIGHT TO HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY ATTEMPTED A 17 MILE ROAD TEST THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE CAR SAT OVERNIGHT AND IT DID NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE. NOTHING WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY HAVE NO EXPLANATION. OIL WAS CHANGED AND TOOK CAR BACK AT 5PM THE DAY AFTER THE ISSUE TOOK PLACE. DROVE 24 MILES TO WORK TODAY AND IT DID NOT REPEAT YET.
TAKATA RECALL MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE 2015 SONATA ON MARCH 9, AS WE WERE DRIVING HOME WE VENTED THE SUNROOF AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW IT MADE A LOUD NOISE AND FLEW OFF THE CAR. WE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED TO GO BACK AND FIND IT AND THE GLASS WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED.
My vehicle consumes oil in a very large amount. This has been happening since I bought the vehicle. Have had it checked numerous times. No oil leaks, no bad parts. I have to add 1 quart of oil every week to my car and I only drive locally. Mechanic states it is a common issue with this make and model of car. Nothing can be done except check oil levels daily. This is costly over time and worries me that if I dont keep a watch then my oil level will be too low and my engine will blow up. Blogs have also verified other owners have the same issue. Need something done about this issue. Why isn't there a recall to fix issue?
AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE JUST CUT OFF. THE BATTERY AND CHECK RNGINE LIGHT CAME ON,BUT MY CAR HAS PLENTY OIL AND I JUST GOT A NEW BATTERY.A FEW MONTHS AGO I GOT THE RECALL CORRECTED BUT,I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES SINCE.
THERE IS A DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING. IT EITHER LOSES POWER BEFORE MOVING FORWARD OR IT WILL ACT LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE. SOMETIMES IT SPUTTERS WHEN PUSHING THE GAS. MY HUSBAND HAS BAD HEARING BUT ONE DAY HE DROVE IT TO WORK AND SAID HE FINALLY HEARD IT AS WELL. I DO NOTICE THAT THE PICK UP IS HESITANT MAKING IT HARD TO STAY IN FLOW WITH THE TRAFFIC AT TIMES. I PURCHASED MY 2015 SONATA 12/04/2017. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, MY GEAR STARTED TO SLIP. AT FIRST HAD ISSUES BREAKING, IT SEEMED A BIT DELAYED. I WAS ADVISED BY SOME FAMILY MEMBERS THAT MAYBE THE ENGINE SIMPLY NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED. (EARLY JANUARY) ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER GOING UP AND DOWN HILLS STARTED BECOMING AN ISSUE. DUE TO MY BUSY WORK SCHEDULE, I HAD TO PUT OFF GOING TO THE SHOP. MY CAR IS NECESSARY FOR MY EMPLOYMENT. THE WEEK BEFORE I WAS DUE TO SERVICE (EARLY FEBRUARY) MY CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD OR BACKWARD AFTER STOPPING AT A LOCAL STOP SIGN, I TOWED THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE DECIDED THAT THE CAUSE OF THESE ISSUES IS A CRACK IN MY TRANSMISSION. THEY HAVE DECIDED NOT TO USE MY WARRANTY TO COVER THE DAMAGES BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A DRIVER. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE PART THAT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTED, IS THE ONLY PART OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE THAT ISNT PROTECTED BY THE PLASTIC COVER PIECE. THEY SAID THIS DAMAGE COULD HAVE HAPPENED UNKNOWINGLY AND EASILY. THIS HAS MADE MY CAR EXTREMELY VULNERABLE TO OUTSIDE DAMAGE AND HAS ALSO BROUGHT THE VALUE OF THE CAR DOWN EXTREMELY.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WITH THE ERROR CODE THAT A CODE READER REVEALED AND WAS REQUESTED MY VIN. THEY THEN CLAIMED THAT THERE IS A RECALL AND WAS TOLD TO COME SEE A SPECIFIC SERVICE AGENT. NHYSA WEBSITE REVEALS NO RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. THE ISSUE IS THE VARIABLE CHARGE MOTION ACTUATOR. I AM FEARING THAT HYUNDAI IS REMEDYING THE ISSUE IN CASE BY CASE BASIS AND CALLING IT A RECALL TO AVOID PENALTY.

1/14/18 UPON ENTERING A 4 LANE MAJOR ROAD FROM A STORE PARKING LOT, MY 2015 SONATA WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I LET OFF AND PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, NO RESPONSE THOUGH THE RPM'S WERE REVVING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE OK AFTER SOME INITIAL HESITATION. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE CAR IS ACCELERATING UP TO 11 MPH, IN DRIVE AND REVERSE, ON ITS OWN WHEN THE BRAKE IS RELEASED (NO USE OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL). IN ADDITION, WHEN IN DRIVE, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD REACHING A SPEED OF ABOUT 5 MPH AS SOON AS THE BREAK IS RELEASED. I SEE RECALLS FOR THESE ENGINE ISSUES ON 2011-2012 MODELS. APPEARS ISSUE NOT RESOLVED WITH ENGINE RECALLS SHOWING FOR MODE YEARS 2013-2014, IT SEEMS THE ENGINE ISSUES ARE STILL NOT RESOLVED FOR 2015. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 45,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW EVERY 3000 MILES UNTIL MY OIL CHANGE TIME BEFORE LAST. THE NEXT SERVICE STICKER WAS FOR A 5000 MILE INTERVAL AND WHEN I QUESTIONED THIS, I WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP WAS USING A HIGHER PERFORMANCE OIL THAT DIDN'T REQUIRE CHANGING PRIOR TO 5000 MILES. I HAD THE NEXT OIL CHANGE DONE AT ABOUT 4000 MILES. I AM CONCERNED I WILL BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR, MY ENGINE IS GOING TO SEIZE, AND I WILL BE STUCK WITH THIS REPAIR EXPENSE.

THERE THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD THUMP AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. SECONDS LATER I LOST POWER STEERING, DASH LIGHTS, AND HEADLIGHTS. THE CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT ISSUE. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED ON DEC. 16TH WHILE TRAVELING AT A CONSTANT 30MPH. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE, EXCEPT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHAKE OR CREATE A LOUD NOISE BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN. MILEAGE WAS AT 75980. TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 20'S. I TOOK THE CAR DO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WAS DEC 29TH. I WAS TRAVELING AT 20MPH AND COASTING TO A STOPLIGHT. IT WAS 19 DEG OUTSIDE AND THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 76800. SO FAR THE CAR HAS NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE WEATHER IS ABOVE FREEZING. LOWER TEMPS MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM BUT NOT LIKELY TO BE THE PRIMARY CAUSE. IN ALL CASES THE CAR WAS AT OPERATING TEMP AND WAS RUNNING FOR MORE THEN 30 MIN. IT HAS NOT YET SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING. ONLY MAINTAINING SPEED OR COASTING. ABOUT A TWO MONTHS AGO THE DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A CLAIMED RECALL. THE ISSUE STARTED ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS LATER THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I DID FIND SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS WHILE SEARCHING.

STILL NOT ABLE TO STOP I MADE AN ABRUPT TURN TO THE RIGHT AND WAS FORTUNATE (YES, FORTUNATE) TO HIT A RETAINING WALL AROUND BUSINESS SIGNS IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. THRU THESE FRANTIC VERY FEW SECONDS AS I WAS TRYING TO STOP, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, I COULDN'T PUMP IT AS ONE WOULD EXPECT TO DO AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE ACCELERATING. MY CHOICE CAME DOWN TO HIT MANY OCCUPIED CARS ON THE STREET OR TURN AND HIT THE RETAINING WALL. AGAIN, HOW FORTUNATE IT WAS THERE!! AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY; THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO CHECK WHAT THE NOISE IS, THE SERVICE REP, TIFFANY, HEARD THE NOISE ALSO WHEN I STARTED MY ENGINE & LET IT RUN. HOWEVER, WHEN SERVICE WAS COMPLETED, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICEPERSON COULD NOT REPLICATE IT. THIS IS CONTINUAL AND DOESN'T STOP. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS CHECKED AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR A NOISE OF THIS TYPE BEING ISSUED. AS A MATTER OF FACT, AFTER THEY CHECKED THIS, THE NOISE WAS EVEN LOUDER AND I HAVE TO KEEP THE RADIO ON TO BLOCK IT OUT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THIS OCCURS ON WHATEVER TYPE OF ROAD I'M ON AND QUIETS DOWN WHEN I'M AT A RED LIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE ISN'T IN MOTION. TURNING DOESN'T STOP IT. I DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS & CITY STREETS.
WHEN IT RAINS, THERE IS WATER INTRUSION INSIDE THE DOORS. THERE IS SO MUCH, THAT I HAVE TO MANUALLY DRY IT TO PREVENT MOLD FROM BUILDING UP. I CANNOT EVEN KEEP THE DOORS OPEN TO LET IT DRY SINCE THE DASHBOARD LIGHT FOR OPEN DOOR REMAINS ON WHEN DOORS ARE OPEN AND THIS DRAINS THE BATTERY. SERVICE DEPT. AT HYUNDAI EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS IS DUE TO THE OPENING AROUND THE DOORS. THERE IS A SPACE THAT IS QUITE LARGE FOR THE WATER TO ENTER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE WEATHERSTRIPPING IF MOLD DEVELOPS AND CHARGE ME NOTHING TO DO THIS.
