There are 3 owner-reported engine complaints for the 2016 Infiniti QX50in NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The engine blew up on the expressway. And this has happened for many other qx50 drivers.
There are 2 check engine codes that came up as an issue for my vehicle, out of the blue: P0720 and P0500. I reached out to my mechanic and he couldn't fix it. So my plan was to take it to the dealership at the end of this month; however, while driving the vehicle back from my sister's house, the bottom of the car caught on fire and I had to pull over to jump out the car with my children. Called 911. The police and fire dept came, but the fire had gone out by that time, so the officer had the vehicle towed off the highway. Looked into the issue online and apparently it's very common. One Infiniti dealership said that he fixes about 30 per month. Why didn't Infiniti issue a recall for this very serious, hazardous situation? Where is their due diligence to fix this problem for their customers? Why are they letting so many vehicles fail? What happened to reasonable due care? Is it not enough that they are aware of this issue and won’t recall it, but what about the physical danger that they are putting us in? And the emotional distress they caused my children, having to jump out of their vehicle on a highway in the middle of the night? Doesn’t Infiniti have a minimum safety requirement of due care to mitigate hazards for its customers?
FROM A COLD START,DRIVING VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE APPROX.( 1 MILE ) PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL, ENGINE IDLE INCREASES MAKING YOU PRESS HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS EXCESSIVE BRAKING TO STOP IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. I FOUND THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. THE VEHICLE WANTS TO LURCH FORWARD . THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THIS EXCESSIVE BRAKING HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL LIGHT. CONCERN IS ALWAYS TO BE READY WITH A HEAVY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. SINCE I'M A NEW OWNER OF THIS PREOWNED VEHICLE, I WASN'T SURE IF THIS WAS A MINOR PROBLEM ,THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 26K MILES. I CALLED THE DEALER ,WAS TOLD NO PROBLEMS WERE EVER NOTED FOR THIS EXCESSIVE BRAKING ON THE 2016 INFINITI QX50 MODELS. THEY ARE GOING TO CHECK OUT THE VEHICLE AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM CAN BE DUPLICATED BY THEIR TECH'S. I FOUND PREVIOUS INFINITI VEHICLES BACK AROUND 2008 WERE NOTED IN A SERVICE BULLETIN AS TO EXCESSIVE BRAKING FROM INCREASE RPM PERHAPS FROM ICV CONTROL VALVE OR IAC FOR ERRATIC IDLE. I WILL WAIT ON THE RESULTS FROM THE DEALER ON THEIR FINDINGS.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
