(1.) AT 245 MILES ENGINECHECK LIGHT WENT ON. DEALER REPLACED #5 SPARK PLUG AND COIL IGNITION SYSTEM TO CORRECT. FOUR DAYS LATER THE SAME LIGHT WENT ON. ALSO AT 400 MILES, 6/3/2000 ESTRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT DURING COLD STARTS.*AK
THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AT SPEEDS OF 50-55 MPH, THE VIBRATION COULD BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGT FOR SERVICE MORE THAN SIX TIMES AND EACH TIME SOMETHING ELSE WAS REPAIRD BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY DEALERSHIP THAT THE VIBRATION IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO BE CORRECTED.*YD
MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2000. SINCE THEN, MY FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED EVERY 7000 MILES. THE DEALER REPLACED THEM AT 7000 MILES AND AFTER THAT REFUSED. SAID IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AFTER 10,000 MILES AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY. SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I DRIVE MY VEHICLE FOR WORK (POST OFFICE) AND STOP A LOT. THERE ARE 35 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET STATING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AT EVERY 7000 MILES AND 54 COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN THE ROTORS WARP, THE CAR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP SAFELY AT 40 TO 55 MPH. APPARENTLY, CHRYSLER HAS HAD THIS COMPLAINT SINCE 1998 THRU 2003. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL? CONSUMER COMPLAINS OF THE STEERING WHEEL HAVING A SLIGHT SHIMMY, GOODYEAR WRANGER RT/S TIRES (P225 75 R15) HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED AND THE PROBLEMS STILL OCCURS, THE SHIMMY COULD BE DUE TO A SUSPENSION PROBLEM OR TIRE PROBLEM. *SLC

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED IT PULLED DANGEROUSLY TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS CHANGED TO A RIGHT HAND DRIVE BY CHRYSLER FOR POST OFFICE DELIVERY USE BEFORE DELIVERY TO THE OWNER. IT WAS DRIVEN 249 MILES BY ANB EMPLOYEE OF THE DEALER BEFORE DELIVERY. THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN APARENT TO THEM AT THAT TIME. THE DEALER HAS SNT THE VEHICLE OUT FOR ALIGNMENT THREE TIMES TO ATTEMPT ALIGNMENT. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT PROPERLY ALIGNED. THE DEALER WILL TRY TO GET IT ALIGNED AGAIN, BUT THEY WILL NOT DO ANY WORK ON THE VEHICLE TO REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SENT THE OWNER OUT TO GET NEW TIRES, BUT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THEM. THE VEHICLE IS STILL OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND IT DOES NOT STEER PROPERLY. THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY MORE ACTION TO FIX IT. THE DAELER CLAIMS THAT CHRYSLER IS NONRESPONSIVE TO THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE BRAKING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, VEH SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, PLACED BRAKE PEDAL TO FLOOR WHICH CANCELLED FORWARD MOTION, CAUSING REAR TIRES TO SMOKE/SQEAL AND VEH TO MOVE SIDEWAYS, ENG CONTINUIED TO REV. PLACED TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WHICH CANCELLED THE ENG ACCELERATIONS. *AK
THIS ROTOR DEFECT WAS RECOGNIZED AS A DEFECT IN THE 1999 MODEL AND IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE 2000 MODEL. YOR AGENCY HAS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS RE THIS ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSSUED. CHRYLSER HAS IGNORED THE ISSUE AND WILL ONLY REACT WHEN FORCED TO DO SO. ROTORS SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT AND BECOME DANGEROUS AFTER JUST 6000 MILES. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. *AK

MANUFACTURER'S OMISSION OF CRITICAL INFORMATION FROM OWNERS' MANUAL AND VEHICLE COMPONENTS. USE CIRCUIT LABELS DO NOT EXIST FOR THE FUSE PANEL LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THIS VEHICLE. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT ONE SHOULD REFER TO THE FUSE PANEL COVER. THE FUSE PANEL COVER, HOWEVER, STATES THAT ONE SHOULD REFER TO THE OWNERS MANUAL. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION (E.G. REMOTE BREAKDOWN OR FAILURE OF LIGHTING CIRCUIT, WIPERS,ETC.) IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE. EACH FUSE WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND A SPARE REINSERTED TO VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT EACH IS FUNCTIONAL.FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED DESPITE CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER.*AK

MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND GIVEN 7 REPAIR ATTEMPTS. UNFORTUNATLEY, DEFECT STILL REMAINS AND VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING STATE ARBITRATION PROGRAM. *AK
2000 JEEP CHEROKEE: THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ONGOING FRONT END VIBRATIONS/WOOBLING SINCE 3000 MILES. HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES HOWEVER PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED! STABLIZER BAR HAS BEEN REPLACED, TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED, NEW TIRES HAVE BEEN PUT ON FROM NEW JEEP ON LOT AND SAME PROBLEM EXISTED AS WITH OLD TIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY CHYRSLER SEEMS TO BE IGNORING THIS PROBLEM? THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS SO THEY MUST BE FULLY AWARE OF THIS EXISTING PROBLEM. I CAN NOT DRIVE THE POSTED DOT SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH AS THE JEEP IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT THAT SPEED! WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CHEROKEE PULLS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. DEALERSHIP IS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. THE STEERING GEAR BOX WAS REPLACED, ALONG WITH NEW BALL JOINTS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK *ML

THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH AND UP AT MILEAGE OF 950 MILES. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BREAK IN. CLAIMED THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. I IN TURN, CONTINUED TO USE THE JEEP BUT THE PROBLEM NEVER SEEMED TO CLEAR UP. AT ABOUT 19825 MILES I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN AND I WAS FORCED TO APPLY MY BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, AND INSTEAD OF COMING TO A SAFE STOP JEEP SHOCKED VIOLENTLY AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT, ALMOST HITTING THE CAR BESIDES ME .IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHECK .THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME THAT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED, AND IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY 117 DOLLARS AND NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY WHICH IS BUMPER TO BUMPER 360000 MILES OR 36 MONTHS. I TOLD THE DEALER I WOULD TAKE THE JEEP TO MY MECHANIC AND HAVE THEM DO THE WORK EVEN THOUGH I WOULD THINK THEY SHOUD OF TOOK CARE OF IT AT THE DEALER UNDER THE WARRANTY . I TOLD MY MECHANIC THE PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE JEEP, AND HE INFORMED ME THAT HE ENCOUNTERED SEVRAL JEEPS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE ROTORS ON THE NEWWER JEEPS WERE DEFECTIVE, AND HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE ROTORS ARE MADE OUT OF COMPOSITE METALS AND EVEN IF YOU RESUFACE THEM THEY WILL WARP OUT OF ROUND AGAIN, AND I WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IN TURN, HE COULDNT GUARANTE THAT IT WOULDNT HAPPEN AGAIN. HE TOLD ME4 THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM WAS TO PUT TO NEW ROTORS ON AT THE PRICE OF 450.00 . I CALLED THE DEALER AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER RON MATZ AND THEN THE GENRAL MANAGER BRETT ADAMS AND THEY INSISTED THEY COULD NOT DO ANY THING FOR ME.IM HOPING YOU CAN HELP ME OUT. *AK
SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP OF NEW JEEP CHEROKEE 10/3/1999, THERE HAS BEEN A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRANSFER CASE. SELLING DEALER REPLACED TRANSFER CASE LUBRICANT. MECHANIC SAID CHRYSLER USED "SUBSTANDARD" LUBRICANT. GRINDING CONTINUED. REPEATED ATTEMPTS FOR SELLING DEALER (BEGNAL MOTORS) TO FIX WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED AT 9585 MILES BY SAWYER MOTORS IN SAUGERTIES NEW YORK. METAL SHAVINGS FOUND IN TRANSFER CASE. WARPING IN GEAR BOLT HOLES. DEALER SAID TRANSFER CASE SHOULD BE "PRISTINE" AT 9,000 MILES. GRINDING RETURNED AT 13,000. WORSE ON DECELERATION AND DURING RAIN. JEEP ZONE REP. SAYS CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. EVEN SAID PROBLEM IS "NORMAL". THIS EXACT PROBLEM REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES BY NTSHA IN 1999 MODEL. ON 6/19/2000 CHRYSLER REP. WANTS TO REPLACE ENTIRE TRANSFER CASE. VALUE OF VEHICLE HAS BEEN REDUCED. WILL LOSE 5,000 IF I SELL NOW. UNSURE OF SAFETY ISSUES. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS SHAMEFUL. THEY HAVE LOST RECORDS OF MY CALLS. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER REP EXPLAINED IF 4-WHEEL DRIVE LEVER IS PLACED IN THE WRONG POSITION, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR. SAWYER MOTORS OWNER BOB SIRACASANO SAYS HE DROVE ANOTHER 2000 MODEL THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE SOUND. ZONE REP. PETER HEWITT SAYS HE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ONCE THE TRANSFER CASE IS REPLACED, THE SOUND WILL NOT GO AWAY. THIS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A DEFECT. DO YOU AGREE? I HAVE HAD A LOANER CAR FOR 21 DAYS. I SPENT $24,000 AND NOW KNOW CHRYSLER HAS A TRACKRECORD OF USING POOR QUALITY PARTS, BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND UNCOOPERATIVE DEALERSHIPS. CONSUMERS NEED THE NHTSA TO STAND UP FOR US! CAN NOT SEEM TO PIN POINT PROBLEM. A IDLE PART IS BEING ORDERED. THEY SEEM TO THINK IT IS IDLING TO SLOW. I AM AFRAID MORE PROBLEMS WILL BE CAUSED BY THIS HIT AND MISS METHOD. IS IT A PROBLEM TO HAVE THE LITE KEEP COMING ON? *AK

MY WIFE PARKED OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN OUR DRIVEWAY ON 6-29-01 AFTER ARRIVING FROM A SHORT TRIP TO THE STORES WITH MY TWO KIDS AND MOTHER-IN-LAW. MY WIFE STOPPED THE CAR ABOUT 1-2 FT IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE DOOR, PLACED THE CAR IN "PARK" AND REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. THE CAR THEN ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND CATAPULTED THEM THROUGH OUR GARAGE DOOR AND INTO OUR OTHER PARKED CAR WHICH WAS INSIDE OUR ONE-CAR GARAGE. MY WIFE HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT 1 1/2 MONTHS EARLIER ABOUT THE JEEP SURGING FORWARD AFTER IT BEING PLACED IN "PARK" AND THE FOOT BEING REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE. I SHRUGGED IT OFF BELIEVING THAT MAYBE MY WIFE HAD HER FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR IN "DRIVE". I SHOULD HAVE BELIEVED HER THEN BECAUSE AFTER THIS ACCIDENT I'M CONVINCED IT WASN'T MY WIFE'S FAULT. THE JEEP IS NOT SAFE! MY WIFE IS A MATURE, RESPONSIBLE AND HEALTY 38 YEAR OLD DENTIST WHO HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT DURING HER 20+ YEARS OF DRIVING. PLEASE TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THIS COMPLAINT SINCE THE DEALER DENIES ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND ONLY WANTS TO FIX IT AND GIVE IT BACK TO US. MY COMPANY OWNS A FLEET OF 1998-2000 JEEP CHEROKEES USED AS MARKED SECURITY VEHICLES. AT LEAST THREE DRIVER BUCKET SEATS HAVE BROKEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN- CERTAINLY A POTENTIAL CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS. THE METAL WHERE THE SEAT IS BOLTED TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE TEARS, CAUSING THE FRONT RIGHT CORNER OF THE SEAT TO COME LOOSE AND PITCH UP.
TRANSMISSION GRINDS WHEN SHIFTING, GROWLS WHEN CLUTCH NOT DEPRESSED, POPS OUT OF GEAR, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN RAINING PASS. SIDE LEAKS ONTO FEET AND SOAKING CARPET, ALL COMPLAINTS MADE TO DEALER AND CAN EITHER FIND NO PROBLEM OR SAYS THAT THE NOISES ARE NORMAL, AND REFUSES TO DO ANYMORE WITH VEHICLE. *AK
I DROVE MY JEEP TO WORK AND PARKED IN THE PARKING GARAGE. APPROXIMATELY 40 MIN. TO 1 HOUR LATER, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD ALREADY BEEN NOTIFIED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE HOOD LOCK MELTED AND FROZE THE HOOD SHUT. THE FIRE DEPT. HAD TO PRY THE HOOD OPEN WITH A CROWBAR. ABS BRAKE FAILURE. *AK
HEAD LAMP ELECTRICAL WIRES COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE SHARP EDGE OF THE MAGNESIUM BRAKE PEDAL AND STEERING COLUMN SUPPORT. CAUSING THE WIRE TO ARC AND OVERHEAT WHICH CAUSED THE WIRE INSULATION TO MELT AND FLASH INTO FLAME. CAUSE OF FIRE WAS LACK OF PROPER INSULATION OF THE WIRES AND THEIR ROUTING WHICH CONTACTED THE EDGE OF THE MAGNESIUM BRAKE PEDAL AND STEERING COLUMN SUPPORT.
EVERY 3000 MILES BRAKES GO OUT. BRAKES AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED FOUR TIMES. FRONT RIMS ARE HOT TO THE TOUCH. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THE PLASTIC HUB CAPS GET SOFT AND COME OFF, BOTH CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE, ROTORS REPLACED 4 TIMES AND TURNED ONCE, BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES. *JB
AT 7200 MILES THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WENT ON FLASHING. THIS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIME OVER LAST WINTER. EACH TIME THE SPARK PLUGS ARE FOULED AND REPLACED, THE COMPUTER REPORTS MISFIRING IN THE ENGINE. THEN IN JULY MY CAR WENT ON FIRE AFTER DRIVING 6 MILES TO THE STORE. I PARKED MY CAR WENT INTO THE STORE ONLY TO BE CALLED OUT 5 MIN LATER THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO BREAK INTO THE CAR BECAUSE THE HOOD RELEASE WAS BURNT. CHRYSLER SAID IT WAS A RODENT THAT CHEWED THE FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS. NOW I'M OUT MY INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE AND ADDITIONAL RENTAL CAR CHARGES. THEN 2/1/02 AFTER DRIVING TO WORK 7 MILE MY CAR AGAIN WENT ON FIRE AFTER PARKING. THIS TIME MY BOYFRIEND HEARD A CRACKLING SOUND AND SAW SMOKE WHEN HE STOPPED AND PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE, SAW FLAMES AND THROW SNOW ON IT TO PUT IT OUT. IT'S STILL IN THE DEALING WAITING TO SEE WHAT CHRYSLER HAS TO SAY NOW.*AK
