Service 4WD light is constantly on while driving. The Jeep is at over 112,000 miles. My mechanic did a diagnostic check and the code that was provided was C14A7-97 PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. I checked with the Jeep dealership for a possible recall and gave my VIN number. There are no current recalls. For 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees where the PTU has not been previously replaced, the auto maker’s recall number is W47 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s recall campaign number is 20V343. At the current moment I’m scared to drive this car. I drive my elderly mother and kids in this car. If these problems are due to a recall I need my car fixed by Jeep. They are the only ones that know how to handle this situation.
The Power Transfer Unit PTU is failing on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep knows this is an issue. They have already recalled over 67,000 vehicles for this issue but somehow my vehicle isn’t affected when there’s no way I could have damaged the part myself. The problem has been diagnosed by a Jeep dealership as failing but I don’t want to drive it and have fail in the middle of a trip where I would ultimately lose all power to the vehicle and be stranded in the middle of the road. No warning lamps came on but vehicle has been making a loud scraping metal on metal sound below 35 and when decelerating.
My vehicle had no service light or warnings prior to shutting down in a parking lot. Now it won’t start and says 4WD is unavailable, service transmission. I had to pay for it to be towed to my home. I’m a disabled veteran living on a fixed income and cannot afford to take it to a dealer. Seems to me that the recall W47 20V343000 directly addresses the reason my vehicle is inoperable and so SHOULD include my VIN!
When tank is filled up, my car stall or jumps and losses power when in drive and come to a stop, it tells me to put in park. But has done it while driving and just died, but it happens every time I fill up my tank, but it’s bad when I get to a red light and it jumps or when I come to crossing and just jumps in traffic or stops
Unknown: Headlights will dim/flicker making it harder to see at night and digital display on dashboard will go completely off causing driver to not be able to see current speed, fuel gauge, etc.
The 2014 - 2016 jeep Cherokee introduced a new design to increase off-road capability, by creating a PTU "Power Transfer Unit" for their 4WD models, many of the v6 models had problems with this unit and two recalls have been created by the NHTSA to deal with this problem, My car is the 4 cylinder model which also has a PTU and has suffered the exact same issues the V6 owners had but we have not been given access to the recall. This is a widely known issue that thousands of 2014 4 cylinder jeep Cherokee owners have been suffering with. It is a risk and danger on the road way, causing irregular and unexpecting driving issues, complete loss of power to the rear wheels "which could be life threatening in some situations", in my situation I had reduced and intermittent power when trying to take a left hand turn across traffic nearly causing me to get impacted on the driver side. I had my [XXX] father in the car as I was taking him to his chemo appointment. Upon taking the car to the dealership they told me that the PTU would likely need to be replaced at a cost of over 4000 dollars. I feel as thought there is sufficient correlation to the other issues this manufacture has with the part(s) in question, to warrant further investigation and recourse given the severity of the failure. My vehicle dashboard gave me a "service park brake" message. The emergency brake would automatically engage if attempting to shift the car into park. The emergency brake could not be disengaged. The vehicle was towed to a Jeep dealership. The dealership has determined that the "park brake module connector" and surrounding wires have corroded due to water intrusion. They told me the car is considered unsafe as if it were to be driven the e-brake could engage at any moment. They also determined there is water leaking into that area of the car i.e. the rear left cargo area where the brake module sits. My online research has determined this is a common issue, and Jeep has not had a recall or notices about it. The water leaking could come from the sun/moon roof or the wheel well. Please visit this link and others like it to see that many people are having this issue with no long-term solution per the manufacturer. Some people have reported multiple failures of the park brake module on the same vehicle with the repair costing $1k+ each time. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION | POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT continues to experience movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft and has caused input spline teeth to wear off, leading to a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If there was a recall performed on this vehicle, it was either too late, or ineffective. Requires a new PTU.
SVC Warning light on- Notice of 4wd not accessible/power issues/surges/constant burning smell of fluid. Started about 3/1/2024. Took for service at Firestone then referred to Transmission shop. Transfer box for 4wheel drive defective, fluid leaking. Advised I could loose power without notice if not repaired. Local dealers are backlogged for the part, by several hundred requests, as this is a issue for this vehicle. Repair is costing me over $3,000.00. My mileage is 68000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop uphill, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle hesitated to respond and lunged forward while responding. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving from a complete stop uphill. Additionally, the contact stated while driving and coming to a complete stop, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound while the transmission shifted to the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train) in 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
We have been hearing a clicking or knocking sound in the front end of our 2104 Jeep Cherokee for a long time now. We had it into the local shop (we are relatively remote from the closest dealer) and they we're not able to find the source of the sound. Forward a bit and now that the sound has gotten louder and the 4x Service warning light has come on it has been identified and confirmed by the nearest dealer that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) is bad. This is a part that has been covered under many other Jeep Cherokee recalls but our VIN had not shown up on any of those recalls. We believe our PTU is faulty like the rest of them. I don't have an good estimate of when we started to hear the noise but I know we now have ~189k miles on the vehicle. I know it's higher milage but this has been a slow developing issue for a long time now. It's been off the road for a year now as parts were not originally available to fix this issue with the diagnosis was first made.

While driving the vehicle will shift into neutral while saying it’s in drive. Then alert driver via display center on dashboard to “shift to P then desired gear”. The engine will completely shut off. Put into park, crank the engine, shift into drive then it will drive again.
I start my car up and try to drive off and it would say shift gear into something then won’t let me leave the car is jerking hard or hesitation I get up to a certain speed it would just shut off or if I stop at a stop light it will shut off the engine but still have the acc on

transmission- vehicle started jerking and bucking with less than 101,000 miles.
My vehicle has never been in an accident. I have pictures showing a wide gap on the side of the back window on the hatchback. Lots of water gets into the back of the jeep. The water burned out some wiring that has caused issues with my jeep. It’s a 1200 dollar job, dealer states the water is getting in due to the design of the vehicle.

Tank is stuck at 1/4 full, some kind of issue withe the fuel tank. Can will run out of gas if miles are not monitored. The Gas Tank Aux Pump or design of the tank (Hump over drive shaft) is creating an issue.

Had to have our 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited towed in on 10/11/2019 Parking break will not shut off, stuck will not move. Same problem happening again December 2023!!!!!!!! 2019 Dealership repairs: Cause: Water intrusion into the EPB Module & Connector. Replaced fuses checked module & found when disconnected that the module & harness were both green & corroded. New module & connector with new wires required to repair. Removed & replaced module, cut off old wires & wired all new wiring to a new connector, new connector has weather pack insulators around wiring to protect from moisture intrusion. Reconfigured new module parking break now works & was able to release rear breaks. $919.14 Cost As of today January 6, 2024 the Jeep is still currently in the garage with the SAME EXACT ISSUE. Apparently this is going to be an ongoing issue. Now I am going to have to pay another $900.. This also is a SECURITY RISK! NO SECURITY RISK SHOULD EVER BE OVERLOOKED!!

While driving on a low-speed, local road, the Electronic Parking Brake came on which forced me to quickly pull over. The car then displayed a "Service Parking Brake" warning. I brought the car to my local garage and they found that the Parking Control Module and Connector were damaged by corrosion. They needed to replace the module and connector. This could have been a serious safety issue.
The vehicle went out of gear basically into neutral at 70 mph going down the interstate. Afterwards the vehicle would not go into any gear leaving me stranded on the side of the interstate.

The vehicle will not shift into 4-low. Randomly says 4 wheel drive is unavailable. Abnormally hard jolts and shifts. The transmission does not shift correctly and makes it very uncomfortable to drive. The lag response time from pressing the gas pedal to the moment of acceleration is between 1-3 seconds. Car not downshifting or using 2nd gear at all due to software reflash is robbing part of the functionality of the vehicle. Off-road select trac modes programmed gear shift points render using the modes completely useless and wastes unnecessary fuel.
When is FCA going to figure out a solution to Recall 49A? Recalls R27 and R67 have been done on my Cherokee. This is my solution for FCA: "Possible FCA temporary solution to the PLGM catching on fire: Instead of having the PLGM connect to an always hot fuse, relocate the wire in the PDC to an only ON when the engine is running fuse. Of course this means you can only open the liftgate when the engine is running, but at least you could park in your garage. You could put the ignition switch in the RUN position and not start the engine if desired to open the liftgate. This should be an acceptable inconvenience until a 'proper repair' can be implemented."
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, there was an abnormal pop and a clunking sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the bolts on the power transfer unit had been stripped. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to Manufacturer Communication Number: 21-014-23 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The 4 wheel drive unavailable indicator keeps coming up. In all research there is a safety risk if the PTU goes out. Chrysler is refusing to remedy the extended warranty of 8 years/150,000 miles on my vehicle. Saying the code is not the code they are looking for! I also took my vehicle to the dealership in Casper Wy. They specified Chrysler/Stalantis is not honoring this. I also called Chrysler directly and received the same run around! I have owned MANY jeeps over the years as well as have many of my family members and NEVER had an issue. No accident has happened yet but am VERY aware it could happen if not remedied!
I honestly have no idea what system failed but I was doing 80 on the interstate and my car shifted into nuetral . All of the lights came on parking brake , brake and then my car would not drive any longer , luckily I was able to coast onto the shoulder but I literally could have been killed. I had just passed road construction that went from 4 lanes to 2 barracaded lanes. i waited 30 minutes and my car restarted like nothing . So I thought maybe it was a glitch until I was driving again and it did it again. I had to keep putting my car in park and then shifting it back to drive . It has not been inspected yet as i'm trying to get it to the dealership without it cutting off .
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while entering the vehicle after a rainy day, the contact became aware that the vehicle was filled with water in the front and rear passenger's side seats. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
When gas pedal is pressed starting from a stop, the jeep doesn’t move right away, then jerks forward. Also, when driving, it sounds like the automatic gear is not shifting up, sounds like the jeep is “reving up”. Another thing happening, is as I start moving, I hear a clunk sound, towards the rear of the jeep, like something might fall off
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 35 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power. 4 days after owning the Jeep a service 4WD light came on. It’s been in the shop since the beginning of December 2023. They’ve found multiple wiring issues along with a burnt module and problems with the 4WD actuator. The recall on the Jeep is also for a wiring issue.
I was pulling out into a busy road and the clutch stuck and caused the transmission to drop into neutral. I couldn’t move or get the car in gear for 30 seconds while traffic was coming my way. I had to turn the car on and put it back in drive and it slowly pulled away
