TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 72 MPH, THE REAR BRAKES SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SHOULDER AND A BURNING ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS IN THE PAST FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE A FAILURE. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V493000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,560. UPDATED 11/15/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING. UPDATED 06/15/2012 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ABS, ESP AND THE SLIPPERY WHEN WET WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. SHE THEN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED AND BEGAN TO EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO HAD NOT YET CONTACTED HER BACK WITH A DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,800.
MY FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE FIRST TIME 11/4/10. I WAS TOLD FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE, BUT GOT AN ERROR FROM THE CAR THAT SAID THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL WAS GOING FASTER THEN ALL THE REST OF THE TIRES AND THE ABS ACTIVATED AND LOCKED UP THE FRONT WHEELS. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN 12/15/10 AND THE ABS, SLIPPERY WHEN WET, ESP, BAS, AND SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE DEALERSHIP TESTED IT AGAIN AND GOT THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE. THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR ON THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL, AND STATED THAT THIS MAY HAVE FIXED IT, BUT THAT THEY ARE NOT 100% SURE HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS IS SIMILAR TO RECALL 06V493000. I HAVE ALSO FILED A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER. NO ONE WILL HELP ME. I AM AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY FAMILIES IN THIS CAR. I CAN NOT AFFORD A CONTINUOUS RENTAL OR TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR. I AM NOW OUT TIME LOSS AT WORK, CAR RENTAL, TOWING, AND COSTLY REPAIRS. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
2007 JEEP COMMANDER. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED THE SHIFT INDICATOR. MECHANIC REPLACED THE ESIM. CONSUMER STATES THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED ON OCTOBER 23, 2010 AS HE WAS ENTERING A PARKING LOT AT A VERY LOW SPEED, PREPARING TO STOP, HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND JUMPED THE CURB AND A FENCE. *JB

THE VEHICLE STILL MANAGED TO STOP, EVEN THOUGH THE PEDAL DROPPED. THERE WAS NO FUEL LEAKAGE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE LOCKING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V493000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). THE VEHICLE REACHES 11 MILES PER GALLON. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,600.
BRAKES FAILED TWICE SINCE PURCHASING VEHICLE IN APRIL. ONCE WITH MY WIFE DRIVING AND ONCE WITH ME WHICH I WILL DESCRIBE HERE: DRIVING UPHILL AT ABOUT 35 MPH AND TRAFFIC LIGHT AT TOP OF HILL TURNED RED. REMOVED RIGHT FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR AND PUSHED ON BRAKE PEDAL. THE PEDAL FELT VERY STIFF AND DID NOT TRAVEL THE NORMAL DISTANCE. BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE REGARDLESS OF HOW HARD I PRESSED ON PEDAL. HAD TO SWERVE TO SHOULDER. AFTER ABOUT 3 SECONDS THE BRAKES KICKED IN MY LOCKING UP ALL 4 TIRES. *JB
TRAVELING TO STOPLIGHT, AND WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE, THE BRAKES DID NOT CATCH CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD LOCK UP AT HIGH SPEEDS, DRIVABLE AND YOU FEEL THE FRICTION AND IT'S LIKE A TUGGING EFFECT UNTIL YOU BRAKE AND THEN IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY FINE. THIS FIRST HAPPENED BACK IN JUNE OF 2007. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, NOTHING SHOWED UP ON THEIR TESTS. THIS BRAKE PROBLEM HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY THROUGH THE YEAR WITH NO WARNING LIGHT APPEARING ON THE PANEL AND IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AND ALWAYS THE SAME RESULT, NOTHING THEY CAN FIND IN THEIR TESTS. BUT LATELY THIS BRAKE PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, MORE RANDOM AND PROGRESSIVE AND AGAIN WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION, 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN FACT. AND STILL NOTHING THEY CAN FIND. *TR
BRAKING CAPABILITY -- SEEMINGLY IN FRONT END OF VEHICLE -- IS DIMINISHED BY APPARENT WARPING OF FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. THIS BECAME FIRST NOTICEABLE TO ME AT APPROX JUST 15K MILES. JEEP (DAIMLERCHRYSLER) WANTS NO PART OF REPAIR (WARRANTY EXP AT 12K MILES, THEY SAY). INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP INFORMS ME THAT THIS IS CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. I COMPLAINED TO DAIMLERCHRYSLER VIA LATTER IN MARCH; THEY DECLINED TO HELP VIA LETTER DATED APRIL 10, 2007.
