AFTER REFUELING THE CAR LOOSES POWER AND STALLS. LAST WEEK I REFILLED THE CAR AND I STALLED IN TRAFFIC. WHEN IN STALL SITUATION DRIVERS NEED TO BE AWARE THAT STEERING IS DIFFICULT. I THINK THE STALLING IS CAUSED BY FUEL GETTING INTO THE EVAPORATOR CANISTER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE CROSSMEMBER K FRAME WAS CORRODED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
TIPM FAILED HEAD LIGHT OUT
WHILE DRIVING, I STARTED HEARING SOME BUMPING UNDERNEATH MY COMPASS AND A DAY LATER IT KNOCK AND DRIVING ROUGH. I MADE IT TO WORK AND IMMEDIATELY CALL TOW. A DAY AFTER THE TOW, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. I ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO TEARS AND A FEW MONTHS, AND STILL PAYING FOR IT. I CONTACTED JEEP CORP. AND WAS TOLD THE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. MY FIDELITY WARRANTY STATES WHAT THEY COVER, BUT WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY TOLD ME THAT AFTER FIVE YEARS THEY DEEMS THE BAD TIE RODS AS WEAR & TEAR. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT WHEN I PURCHASED THE SERVICE CONTRACT. IF MY PRAYERS AREN'T HEARD, THEN I MUST PAY $2700 OUT OF MY POCKET.
K FRAME BY DRIVER FRONTWHEEL SO RUSTED CRACK COMPLETELY IN HALF. WHEEL ENDED UP FACING 90 DEGREE TO LEFT. WHEEL AND FRAME ALMOST SEPARATED FROM JEEP. STRUT ONLY HOLDING IT ON. GOOD THING I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 5MPH IN PARKING LOT.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN APRIL 2016. IN JUNE 2016, MY HEADLIGHT STOPPED WORKING CORRECTLY. IT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF ON IT'S OWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. AFTER ABOUT 6 WEEKS OF THE CAR BEING IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP, DUE TO THE LIGHT WORKING ON IT'S OWN AND THEM NOT HAVING THE SAME EXPERIENCE I WAS HAVING, THEY FINALLY SEE WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM FAILED, AND REPLACED IT. FEB 2017, MY WIPERS BEGAN TURNING ON AND OFF ON THEIR OWN, OR JUST NOT WORKING AT ALL. THEY WOULD GO ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING, NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF, AND AT TIMES THE SWITCH WOULD NOT EVEN TURN THEM ON WHEN I NEEDED THEM. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY HAVE AGAIN DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM, WHICH IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD, HAS AGAIN FAILED. THEY HAVE NOT DETERMINED WHAT IS CAUSING THE CONSISTENT FAILURE OF THE TIPM, AND HAVE HAD IT FOR A WEEK NOW.
I HEARD NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME CROSS MEMBER IS COMPLETELY ROTTED. BY LOOKING AT THE JEEP YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW ANYTHING IS WRONG BECAUSE IT IS WELL MAINTAINED. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM IN UPSTATE NY.
THIS IS THE SAME COMPLAINT THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE REPORT ABOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS WILL BEGIN TO SPUTTER AND EVENTUALLY SHUT-OFF AFTER EVERY FILL UP WITH GAS. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE FUEL VAPORIZER AND OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE GAS TANK. IF YOU FILL THE GAS TANK UP ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP WITH GAS, IT WILL CAUSE THIS FAILURE OF ROUGH IDLING AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF EVERY TIME, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVE BECAUSE IT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRANSMISSION ALSO. CHRYSLER HAS FIXED THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE IN SEVERAL OTHER MAKES AND MODELS OF THEIR VEHICLES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED AROUND THIS SAME YEAR. BUT, THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX THIS SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP COMPASS YET. AT THIS POINT, I'M CONTEMPLATING CONTACTING MY LAWYER TO SEE IF THIS CAN BE BETTER BROUGHT TO CHRYSLER'S ATTENTION, AS I'M CERTAIN THAT EVERYONE THAT HAS A JEEP COMPASS NEAR 2007-2009 YEAR MODEL IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE'S WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. MY SUGGESTION TO ANYONE READING THIS, IS TO NOT FILL THE GAS TANK ALL THE WAY UP WHILE PUMPING GAS. DO NOT "TOP OFF THE GAS." THIS IS A TEMPORARY FIX TO THE ISSUE, AS IT ALLOWS GAS VAPORS TO EXPEL PROPERLY. ALSO, IF THE TANK WAS FILLED TOO MUCH AT THIS GAS STATION (TOPPED OFF), AND THIS STUTTERING DOES OCCUR, IT CAN HELP TO STOP AND REMOVE THE GAS CAP FOR A SHORT WHILE UNTIL THE GAS HAS BEEN RAN DOWN IN THE TANK ENOUGH.
MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A AUTO ACCIDENT WHEN I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR SIDE IMPACT, AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT ANCHOR CAME COMPLETELY DETACHED AND SEAT BELT NO LONGER RESTRAINED THE PASSENGER, CONSEQUENTLY SUSTAINING MULTIPLE INJURIES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, A CRUNCHING SOUND EMERGED FORM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE ON THE LIFT, THE MECHANIC NOTICED HOLES ON THE FRAME AND SEVERE RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
WHEN FILLED UP WITH FUEL, CAR STALLS OUT AND CUTS OFF. I HAVE REPLACED ALL OF THE BEARINGS AND CAR STILL MAKES A ROARING NOISE WITH THE AXLE. UPPER CONTROL ARMS ARE COMPLETELY DAMAGED. BATTERY LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AND HEADLIGHT WAS REPLACED BUT DOES NOT STAY ON. LIGHT STAYS ON INDICATING VACUUM HOSE ISSUE. 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT STAYS ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE FOLLOWED BY THE SOUND OF METAL SCRAPING THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM AND CROSS MEMBER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
I PURCHASED THE 2007 JEEP WITH LOW MILEAGE FOR MY CHILD'S FIRST CAR. UPON THE FIRST REFUEL THE CAR HAS EXPERIENCED STALLING WITHIN A HAL MILE OF REFUELING. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AS WELL AS TO THE NEIGHBORNING JEEP DEALER. TIME AFTER TIME I WAS ADVISED THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. TODAY UPON REFUELING THE CAR STALLED UPON LEAVING THE GAS STATION AGAIN. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS AND RESEARCH ONLINE THAT I WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN A RECALL HAD NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. THE STALLING OCCURS AT A DIFFERENT TIME LEAVING NO GAS STATION, AT THE FIRST MOMENT OF IDLING, AFTER TRAVELING A SHORT DISTANCE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ANY DRIVER ALTHOUGH EXTREMELY SO FOR A NEWLY LICENSED DRIVER.
FRONT ENGINE CRADLE/SUB FRAME BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND DAMAGE TO ADDITIONAL PARTS INCLUDING RACK AND PINION, CONTROL ARMS, ETC. AFTER EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE CRADLE/SUB FRAME BY A MECHANIC AND MYSELF IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE/SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED SO SEVERELY THAT BROKE IN HALF UNDER THE NORMAL WEIGHT AND DRIVING STRESSES OF THE VEHICLE. EXAMINATION OF THE REAR SUB FRAME SHOWS THE SAME SIGNS OF RUST WHICH INCLUDE NUMEROUS HOLES APPROXIMATELY 1/2" +/- IN DIAMETER. THE UNI-BODY OF THE VEHICLE HAS NO SURFACE RUST OR MORE SEVERE RUST LOCATED ON ANY AREA ON THE VEHICLE. THE RUST IS SOLELY ISOLATED ON THE FRONT ENGINE CRADLE/SUB FRAME AND REAR SUB FRAME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND PREMATURE FAILURE OF A VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GO AROUND ANOTHER DRIVER, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WAS STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE SPEED INCREASED TO 90 MPH IN A 40 SPEED ZONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
GAS TANK WILL NOT TAKE FUEL. WHEN FILLING IT WILL ONLY TAKE ABOUT 0.3 GALLONS BEFORE STOPPING OR SPRAYING OUT. MECHANIC SAID IT MIGHT BE VENTILATION SYSTEM.
I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT AND BACK SUSPENSION. I BOUGHT THIS USED, AND I THINK I WAS NOT GIVEN THE PROPER INFORMATION REGARDING THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT TOOK AN UNUSUALLY LONG TIME TO FILL UP THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN FUELING, THE NOZZLE FROM THE GAS PUMP IMMEDIATELY SHUTS OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. IT TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT TO FUEL UP WITHOUT FUEL SPLASHING OUT AND OVERFLOWING ON THE CAR AND PAVEMENT. I HAVE USED DIFFERENT FUEL STATIONS, CHANGED THE ANGLE OF THE NOZZLE, FUELED UP AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES, CHANGED THE EVAP CANISTER BUT STILL THE PROBLEM EXISTS. AFTER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY JEEP OWNER THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. IT IS THE ONE-WAY ROLLOVER VALVE THAT IS LOCATED IN THE GASTANK. ALSO OTHER CARS MADE FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PERILOUS PROBLEM. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT TO GET A RECALL FOR MY CAR AND ANY OTHER JEEPS THAT HAVE THE SAME FAULTY ONE-WAY VALVE IN THE GAS TANK.
PROBLEMS AFTER FUELING: AFTER FILLING MY VEHICLE UP, WITHOUT FAIL, THE ENGINE STALLS, SHUTS OFF, VIOLENTLY JERKS AND/OR DECREASES SPEED AND THEN RETURNS TO REGULAR DRIVING CONDITIONS. I HAVE CHANGED THE GAS CAP, GAS STATIONS AND OCTANE LEVELS, AS WELL AS THE AMOUNT OF GAS CONSUMED, ALL WITHOUT ANY RESOLVE. ALTHOUGH I NEVER TIP OFF THE GAS TANK, I WILL FILL THE GAS TANK AND I EXPERIENCE ERRATIC BEHAVIOR WITHOUT FAIL. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF I SIT AT THE GAS PUMP OR DRIVE AWAY IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE WILL ENTER A DISTRESSING ROUTINE OF JOLTING, AND TURNING OFF. THIS HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AT TIMES, THE UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR HAS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC WHILE CROSSING BUSY INTERSECTIONS, DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS WELL AS LEAVING THE PUMP. IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION IT WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THIS OCCURS WHETHER I'M STILL AT THE PUMP PREPARING TO DRIVE OFF, STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, OR WHILE WAITING TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE JERKING ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OCCURS ANYTIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF I'M GOING 5MPH OR 60MPH. IT ALWAYS OCCURS WITHING 3 MILES OF FILLING UP THE VEHICLE. TIME IS NOT THE REMEDY BUT RATHER DISTANCE AS THE VEHICLE MY EXPERIENCE ERRATIC BEHAVIOR MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS ISSUE STARTED 3 YEARS AGO AND CONTINUES TODAY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS GROWING PROBLEM AMONG JEEP VEHICLES TO AVOID FUTURE MAJOR ACCIDENTS OR FATALITIES. CONCERNED JEEP COMPASS OWNER.
WHENEVER THE GAS TANK IS FILLED UP, UPON DRIVING 1-2 MILES AWAY FROM GAS STATION ON THE HIGHWAY OR ANY ROAD, THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND STALLS. TODAY THE ENTIRE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND LOCKED UP. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME.
EVERY TIME FOR THE LAST 10 FILL UPS THE CAR WILL STALL AND FINALLY QUIT, USUALLY IN TRAFFIC. IT WILL START RIGHT BACK BUT GOING A FEW YARDS IT STARTS STALLING AGAIN. I KEEP IT FROM DIEING COMPLETELY BY PUTTING IT IN NEUTUAL AND GIVING IT GAS LIKE AT A RED LIGHT. ALSO SOMETIMES ITS HARD PUTTING GAS IN NO MATTER HOW MUCH IS IN THE TANK. IT FILLS LIKE ITS FULL EVEN THOUGH IT MAY JUST HAVE A QUARTER TANK, HALF TANK, ETC.
SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STALLS AND UPON RESTART RUNS ROUGH FOR SHORT TIME. WE HAD ONE INCIDENT WHERE A FUEL LEAK DEVELOPED AFTER REFUELING. THE STALLING ISSUE HAS ALMOST CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO BE STRUCK AND CLEARLY HAS CAUSED A CONTROL ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLES ENGINE LOSES POWER SHUTS DOWN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED AND NO CODES WERE TRIGGERED OR STORED. THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T SEEM INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING MY ISSUE.
STALLS OR HESITATES AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ONCE GAS LEVEL GOES DOWN A LITTLE THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS. FAULTY VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. CAR STALLS AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. STARTS BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM BUT IS DANGEROUS IF THIS HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
CAR STALLS AFTER FILLING TANK ( NOT OVERFILLING ) . RUNS ROUGH THEN STALLS AND POWER STEERING CUTS OUT LOCKS UP ON ROAD.
DEC 2015- MY CAR MECHANIC FOUND ROTTED OUT FRONT END SUB-FRAME/ CROSS MEMBER'. HE KNEW ABOUT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE SO I WAS ABLE TO GET IT FIXED. ( IMPT PLS NOTE: CHRYSLER HAD NEVER REACHED OUT TO LET ME KNOW ABOUT THIS- EVEN THOUGH WHEN I LOOK UP THE RECALL FOR CORROSION IT'S CLEARLY LISTED ). NOR DID CHRYSLER TELL ME THE REAR CROSS MEMBER WAS ALSO ON RECALL AND WOULD LIKELY BE NEEDED AND SHOULD GET IT DONE BEFORE THE SEPT 2017 END OF WARRANTY. FORWARD TO APRIL 2018 - I DISCOVER REAR CROSS MEMBER SUB FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED OUT. CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SX THEY TELL ME THAT IT'S RECALL WARRANTY RAN OUT SEPT 2017- SO THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR THIS TIME. I FEEL CHRYSLER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AS THEY DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT REAR END PROBLEM WHEN I COULD HAVE HAD IT FIXED BEFORE THE UNBEKNOWNST TO ME END OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IN SEPT 2017! I SEEK YOUR HELP TO REVIEW MY COMPLAINT AND REQUEST TO OFFER LEGAL REASONS THAT WILL CHRYSLER HONOR THE RECALL WARRANTY. WHICH WAS VALID FOR SALT BELT STATES- LIKE MA WHERE I LIVE. I BELIEVE THE REFERENCE # IS 23-012-14.
AFTER THE CAR IS REFUELED, THE ENGINE WILL STALL OUT WHILE IT IS STATIONARY. IT THEN STALLS OUT A SECOND TIME AFTER I DRIVE A LITTLE WHILE I AM STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STATIONARY. I DO NOTHING SPECIAL WHILE FILLING IT UP BESIDES LETTING THE PUMP STOP IT WHEN IT IS FULL. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED EVERY TIME AFTER I FILL UP SINCE ABOUT 125,000 MILES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE AND PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AT 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED AND A TUNE UP WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED TO SHIFT GEARS AND WAS JERKING AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON 6/30/13. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSORS AND THE O2 HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON 1/14/16 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,483.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR CUTTING OFF, ESPECIALLY WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT ON LOCAL ROADWAYS. UPDATE TO COMPLAINT. JEEP DEALER JUST CALLED AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE FUEL TANK AND CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE AND THEY HAD SEEN IT BEFORE . THE ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK WAS BAD AND STICKING OPEN ALLOWING FUEL TO DUMP INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM FILLING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WITH GAS CAUSING THE STALL . THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE A FAULTY VALVE WONT SHUT OFF IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH CAUSING A FIRE AND CAN ALSO CAUSE A ACCIDENT FROM STALLING IN TRAFFIC WHILE IN MOTION AND THE STEERING LOCKING UP. I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS FOR 30 YEARS AT A DEALERSHIP AND SEEN A LOT OF ISSUES BUT NHTSA REALLY NEED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY. IF CAR WAS IN ROLL OVER ACCIDENT, FIRE COULD RESULT FROM SPILLING FUEL. AFRAID WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF PULLING ONTO HIGHWAY FROM RAMP AND STALL IN FRONT OF 18 WHEELER.

THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN VERMONT IN TORRANCE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS ON. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE CURB. I STARTED THE CAR THE NEXT DAY AND IT HAD CLUNKING SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS WHICH DISAPPEARED UPON DRIVING FREEWAY SPEEDS. UPON TRYING TO PARK THE CAR AT WORK IT JERKED WHILE IN REVERSE. I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT FEW DAYS UNTIL IT FAILED ON AUG 31ST WHILE DRIVING HOME ON VERMONT. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SCOTT ROBINSON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP DEALERSHIP IN TORRANCE, CA. TESTING THERE REVEALED THE CAR NEEDED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION AT ONLY 70,000 MILES. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT DUE TO ANY FAULT OF MINE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A AAA APPROVED REPAIR FACILITY TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND AM WAITING TO SEE IF THE CAR REPAIRS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT'S FORTUNATE THE CAR DIDN'T FAIL ON THE FREEWAY.
