MY JEEP JUST WENT OVER 6 YEARS AS ME AS THE SOLE OWNER. THE JEEP IS NOT USED AS ANY TYPE OF OFF ROADING. HAD ISSUE WITH AN OIL CHANGE THAT BROUGHT CAR INTO JEEP DEALERSHIP. A MINOR CLEANUP WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE JEEP HAD TIE ROD ISSUES THAT COULD RESULT VERY SOON IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT FOR ME. I HAVE HANKOOK TIRES ON THE CAR. I THOUGHT THE CAR DROVE OKAY. I'M SEEING MANY OTHERS WITH COMPLAINTS ON THE TIE RODS WHERE IT'S BEEN MENTIONED THAT BOLTS WERE NOT FASTENED TIGHTLY CAUSING EARLY FAILURE. AGAIN, APPROXIMATELY 23200 MILES ON A CAR THAT IS BASICALLY DRIVEN TO THE STORE AND CHURCH WITHIN TOWN WITH OCCASIONAL EXPRESSWAY TRIPS OUT OF TOWN. SO, I'M SCARED SILLY THAT IF I DON'T GET THESE FIXED, I'LL KILL ME, ANY OCCUPANTS AND ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME IT DOES FAIL. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE CAR WITHOUT BEING FIXED. AND, CHRYSLER DOESN'T THINK THERE'S AN ISSUE HERE? THIS WILL COST ME NORTH OF $1100.00 TO FIX. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35MPH MY CAR BUCK AND ALMOST STALLED OUT. IT SEEMED LIKE IT LOST A LITTLE POWER AFTER THAT. WHEN I REACHED A STOP SIGN APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, I HAD NO POWER AND COULD NOT BREAK 10MPH. MY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT IS NOW FLASHING AND THE ESP/TCS LIGHT IS ON STEADY. THE ONLY ERROR CODE I AM GETTING IS FOR THE #1 O2 SEOR BECAUSE I DAMAGED IT TAKING IT OUT TO ELIMINATE A CLOGGED CADTILAC CONVERTER. AT TIMES IT TAKES 3 SECONDS FOR MY CAR TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO START (MEANING NOTHING IS HAPPENING). IT HAS A ROUGHER IDLE THEN IT USED TO HAVE. *TR
PULLING FROM A STOP SIGN ONTO A BUSY ROAD MY TRANSMISSION SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. THE ENGINE WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS THEREFORE IDLING INTO TRAFFIC, BUT NOTHING WAS HAPPENING WHEN I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO IDLE INTO A PARKING LOT, WHERE I TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE TRANSMISSION WORKED AGAIN. EARLIER THE SAME DAY, THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING WHILE THE CAR WAS DRIVING, BUT SOMEHOW RE-ENGAGED ITSELF AND BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT THE TIME SO IT DIDN'T STRIKE ME AS THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL LATER THAT DAY WHEN IT REPEATED. TERRIFYING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE AND DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED T BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS HAD BEEN MAKING CLUNKING AND SQUEAKING NOISES WHEN DRIVING OVER SMALL BUMPS AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE WAS ALSO A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO EITHER SIDE, ALSO HAPPENING AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED I NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND BALL JOINT ASSEMBLIES AND BOTH OUTER TIE RODS ENDS. IT WAS ALSO STATED I NEEDED A NEW RIGHT STRUT. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND I WAS MADE TO SIGN A PAPER STATING THEY HAD TOLD ME THIS. AT LESS THAN 42,000 MILES THESE ARE PARTS THAT SHOULD NOT BE MALFUNCTIONING AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY NOT ENDANGERING MY LIFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS A CLICKING NOISE WAS PRESENT IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE RIGHT BALL JOINT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. *TR
THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE HAS A CONSISTENT TENDENCY TO SPUTTER, HESITATE, AND/OR COMPLETELY SHUT-OFF, ESPECIALLY AFTER FUELING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON BUSY ROADWAYS AND AND INTERSECTIONS. WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BUT I QUICKLY REALIZED THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM WAS AND WAS EMPLOYING A SHOT-IN-THE-DARK METHOD. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER/DODGE. I AM THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE NOW, AS I DO NOT WANT MY WIFE AND CHILD TO BE SUBJECTED TO THIS POTENTIAL HAZARD. *TR
I HEARD SOME NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED A GIANT CRACK IN THE A-FRAME, APPARENTLY DUE TO CORROSION. IT LOOKS LIKE THE METAL JUST RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH. THIS FRAME HOLDS THE SUSPENSION TOGETHER, SO THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF NOW THAT THE FRAME IS CRACKED. THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT 68,000 MILES OF A WELL-MAINTAINED CAR. THE REALLY BAD PART IS THAT THE PART PROBABLY ISN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THE PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY JEEP. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, HE WAS TOLD THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS DAMAGED BY RUST. THE CONTACT STATED THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO PUT HIS FINGER THROUGH THE SUB FRAME DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE RUST. THE MECHANIC STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,300. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IT WAS ALSO DIFFICULT TO VIEW THE ODOMETER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIND A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000. IN ADDITION, ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2013, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CONTROL ARM AND BUSHING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
GOING INTO LEFT HAND TURN LANE TO TURN LEFT, COASTING, STOPPED AT BLINKING LIGHT TO TURN PROCEEDED AND CAR STALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE THE LAST TIME BEING A FEW WEEKS AGO. I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND MADE A COMPLAINT. HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK IN ORDER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. EVERYTHING JUST LOCKED UP. DATE IS APPROXIMATE ALONG WITH MILEAGE. *TR
THE CAR BEGAN PULLING IN THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS A HALF MILE FROM HOME, SO I TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME. AS I DROVE INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE AND ENTIRE FRONT RIGHT SUSPENSION COMPLETELY FELL DOWN (ALMOST COMPLETELY OFF) AND THE TIRE WAS PUSHED SIDEWAYS AND INTO THE FRAME OF THE WHEEL WELL ON THE CAR. THE CAR CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE AND ABRUPT HALT. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS OCCURRED, MY CAR WOULD HAVE FLIPPED AND I WOULD HAVE CRASHED AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM AND DEFECT THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE PART OF A RECALL. I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL/YEAR CONCERNING THE WHEEL BEARINGS, LOWER CONTROL ARMS, AND TIE RODS. I HAVE GREAT CONCERN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE AFTER IT IS REPAIRED. *TR
AS I WROTE IN PREVIOUS COMMENTS, I HAVE SPENT OVER $11,000 OVER THIS PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE REPLACED THE WHEEL HUBS, TIE ROD ENDS, THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND ALL RODS CONCERNING THE REAR. I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT 98,000 MILES COSTING ME $3200. THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT BE REPAIRED, THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. AND YES I HAVE 158,000 MILES, BUT IF YOU COMPARE $11,000 JUST ON REPAIRS TO THIS PILE OF CRAP. I HAVE COMPLAINED BEFORE, AND NOTHING HAPPENS. AS I WAS TOLD THERE WERE 14,000 COMPLAINTS JUST WHAT I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND STILL NO RECALLS. I HAVE ASKED IF THEY COULD JUST LOOK INTO WHY JEEP COMPASS OWNERS ARE GOING THROUGH TIE ROD ENDS, WHEEL HUBS, SUSPENSIONS. *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE GAS TANK AT ANY COMMERCIAL GAS STATION THE PUMP NOZZLE SHUTS OFF IMMEDIATELY. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL THE GAS TANK SINCE ONLY A FEW OUNCES OF FUEL IS RELEASED BEFORE THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. SOMETIMES JUST BEFORE THE NOZZLE SHUTS, GAS AND BUBBLES ARE RELEASED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE WORTHLESS FOR A TRADE -IN OR A PERSONAL SALE. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THE GAS TANK AND FILLER TUBE MUST BE REPLACED. THE COST IS AROUND $500. PLUS LABOR. THE FLAP VALVE CAN'T BE REPAIRED SINCE IT'S CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER AND WILL SHOW A SAFETY WARNING STATING THAT THE ROLL OVER SAFETY FEATURE IS DISABLED. THERE ARE OTHER MODEL YEARS OF JEEPS THAT HAD A RECALL AND THIS 2007 MODEL SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
IN 2008 WE PURCHASED THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS BRAND NEW. AT THE TIME IT HAD A LITTLE OVER 100 MILES ON IT. IN 2009 IT FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO WORN TIE-ROD ENDS WHICH WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AT THAT TIME WE HAD APPROX 35,000 MILES ON IT. IN 2013 AT APPROX 98,000 MILES THE TIE RODS ARE WORN AGAIN, THUS WE FAILED ANOTHER INSPECTION. SINCE OWNING THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS WE HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 SETS OF TIRES, NEEDED NEW BALL JOINTS AND NOW FRONT STRUTS ALSO NEED REPLACEMENT. NOT SURE IF THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS CAUSING THESE PARTS TO WEAR OUT QUICKER THEN NORMAL. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP ON THESE LAST SET OF TIE RODS HE TOLD ME ITS BECAUSE OF THE ROADS ARE BAD. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT AS I'VE OWNED 5 VEHICLES IN MY LIFE TIME AND ONLY HAD TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS ONCE. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WIRE FROM THE FUEL PUMP STARTED TO FAIL AND COULD HAVE IGNITED A FIRE. THE DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE A REASON FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO CORROSION OR RUST ON THE PART WHEN IT WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,929 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,981. *TR
2007 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DISSATISFACTION WITH VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE AT 39,106. AT 43,060, THE REAR BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, WITH 48,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT AND REAR BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 34,406 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.
I'M JUST GOING TO LIST THE PROBLEMS WITH DATES TO MAKE IT EASIER TO GET A VISUAL OF THE PROBLEM! 2009 4X4 INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON - OIL LEAKING OUT OF SOME 4X4 BOX/BEARINGS MISSING WENT BAD 50,000 MILES CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT NAME OF THE PART, BUT COULD CALL THE DEALER AND FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS, 3/7/12 - CV NUT LOCK COVERS NEEDED REPLACED - RUSTED OUT, LEFT OUTER TIE ROD REPLACED, 3/17/13 - BOTH CONTROL ARMS REPLACED, 4/3/13 - RIGHT TIE ROD (INNER AND OUTER) REPLACED, 1/17/14, FRONT ENGINE CRADLE REPLACED, 3/28/14 - RIGHT WHEEL BEARING REPLACED, BOTH CONTROLS ARMS REPLACED AGAIN, AXLE REPLACED, 5/16/14 - NOTIFIED THAT RIGHT TIE ROD NEEDED REPLACED AGAIN. THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST POORLY DESIGNED VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED. IT CURRENTLY HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT AND ALL OF THE THINGS REPLACED SHOULD NOT HAVE NEEDED REPLACED AND NOT HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE TO BOOT! I WOULD NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE OR RECOMMEND PURCHASE TO ANYONE. PARTS GOING BAD THIS QUICKLY IS A DANGER TO ANY OTHER PARTS THAT MAY GO UNNOTICED UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE TMC MODULE AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
ON JUNE 13 2011 MY COMPASS WITH ONLY 17085 MILES ON IT, HAD CRACKED A FRONT SPRING THAT HAD GRINDED A RING AROUND MY PASS SIDE TIRE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT I NOTICED SOME NOISE IN THE FRONT END SO I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER FOR SERVICE. I WAS TOLD WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HOW SURPRISED THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS WITH THIS INCIDENT. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. IT TOOK A WHILE BUT AFTER SOME COMPLAINTS AND DISGUST WITH THE DEALERSHIP, BUT MORE SO WITH CHRYSLER, EVERYTHING DID GET COVERED BUY THE 2 PARTIES. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS AND STILL IS UNDER WARRANTY. TODAY IS JANUARY 3 2013 AND GUESS WHAT? I NOW HAVE TO CONTACT THE DEALER AND PROBABLY CHRYSLER AGAIN. MY COMPASS IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WITH ONLY 27450 MILES AND NOW THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT SPRING IS CRACKED AND IS BEGINNING TO DO THE EXACT SAME THING TO MY OTHER TIRE AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE DEALER WILL SAY OR DO BUT I WILL CONTACT THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, THEY ARE CLOSED AT THIS TIME. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM OR JUST A FLUKE? TO ME THIS SEEMS LIKE IT SHOULD BE A POSSIBLE DEFECT AND PUT UNDER A RECALL. IF ANYONE OF THESE TIRES WOULD HAVE BEEN WARN DOWN ENOUGH AND A TIRE WOULD HAVE BLOWN OUT, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS AND OR DEADLY ACCIDENT. *TR
HAVE MY VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION AND FOUND THAT THE BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, ROCKER ARMS, BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THE FRONT AND BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THE BACK. *TR
VEHICLE CREAKS LOUDLY, WHEN I PULL OFF FROM STOPPED AND WHEN REVERSING AND TURNING. DEALER REPLACED RIGHT INNER TIE ROD AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE LOWER CONTROL ARMS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A THEME ON THIS PAGE, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL, WITH SUCH AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE. I AM DISABLED AND DEPEND ON A SAFE VEHICLE TO GET ME TO MY DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS AND MAINTAIN MY FAMILY. PURCHASED JEEP COMPASS NEW, NOV. 2007, IT'S DRIVEN 99% OF THE TIME BY WIFE TO/FROM WORK AT HOSP. DRIVEN LESS THAN 6,000 MILES PER YEAR. WIFE STATED HEARING A CREAKING/ SQUEEKING NOISE FROM FRONT OF CAR. I TOOK THE COMPASS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, THEY STATED IT WAS THE FRONT LEFT LOWER BALL JOINT. THEY REPLACED THE LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM/BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. I FEEL THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THIS PART FAILING AFTER ONLY 25,000 MILES ( MAYBE WHOLE FRONT SUSPENSION). THIS VEHICLE IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, THE JEEP DEALER DOES ALL OIL CHANGES, TIRE ROTATION, FILTERS ON SCHEDULE. THIS JEEP IS KEPT IN A GARAGE AT HOME 100% OF THE TIME AND GARAGED AT WORK EXCEPT FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

VEHICLE MADE SCREECHING SOUND, COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL WHILE TRAVELLING AT ABOUT 30MPH. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED, OWNER NOTICED LEFT FRONT WHEEL TO BE TURNED OUT AND STANDING AT AN ANGLE. AFTER RAISING THE VEHICLE, OWNER NOTICED THAT A-FRAME CROSSBAR HAD RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY, RENDERING THE FRONT CONTROL ARM BOLT HANGING AWAY FROM THE FRAME. BOTH SIDE'S FRONT TIE RODS AND CONTROL ARMS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT APROXIMATELY 35000 MILES AND 70000 MILES. BOTH SIDE'S LINK TOW AND LINK REAR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT UNDER 70,000 MILES, AS ALL BOLTS HAD RUSTED TO THE FRAME. PURCHASED THE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL400-02 AFTER 20,000 MILES HAD A FLAT. TOOK THE TIRE BACK TO WHERE PURCHASED AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T SEE ANY REASON FOR THE FLAT AND THE TIRE HAD CRACKS INSIDE THE TIRE AND ALSO ALL THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY TREAD LEFT ON THEM. THESE ARE RATED FOR 80,000 MILES AND SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 1/4 OF THE RATED MILEAGE. THESE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL THEM. *KB
ON NOV. 21 I TOOK MY JEEP COMPASS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE CAR WAS JERKING AND ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PRETTY MUCH GOING CRAZY. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC THAT THE DID ON THE PCM SHOWED THAT THERE WERE COMPUTER ERRORS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAD TO RESET THE CODES AND CLEAR ALL OF THE ERRORS AND THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. ON 12/11 THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE SAME ISSUED OCCURRED AGAIN. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATE THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT THEY HAD SPOKEN TO CHRYSLER AND THAT CHRYSLER STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE PROBLEMS GET WORST AT WHICH POINT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AND FIND THE SOLUTION. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE BASICALLY THEY WANT ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE AROUND IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND WAIT TIL THE PROBLEMS GETS WORST AND RISK OUR LIVES. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND BECOME ERRATIC. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY MANY LIVES WOULD BE AT RISK. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT IS GOING ON IN MY CAR. AS OF RIGHT NOW THERE HAS BEEN NO SOLUTION TO FIX MY VEHICLE. *TR
THE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED. THERE IS A PUBLIC DANGER BECAUSE OF SUDDEN FAILURE AND ENGINE REVVING TO MAXIMUM RPM... TOTAL LOSS OF POWER TO DRIVE TRAIN. THE CVT TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT COSTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEBITED BACK TO THE SUPPLIER AT 100%. I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. CHRYSLER WOULD NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIRS UNTIL WE AGREED TO SHARE IN THE COST. I FEEL THIS ITEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. AS I WAS ACCELERATING (AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN), THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO RESTART AND THAT'S WHEN A LIGHTNING BOLT ICON WAS DISPLAYED. I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND FOUND OUT THAT THE LIGHTNING BOLT ICON MEANS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES, I TRIED TO START THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED, HOWEVER I DECIDED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER DUE TO GRAVE CONCERN ABOUT THE ISSUE RECURRING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. ABOUT 3 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ABOVE INCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AND STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS NOT MOVING. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE RPM GAUGE WAS AT ITS MAX, HOWEVER THE CAR WAS BARELY MOVING (IT WAS MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY LESS THAN 5 MPH). THE CAR FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL, BUT IT CREPT ALONG AT A SLOW PACE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION, I TURNED OFF THE CAR. LATER, WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE ISSUE DID NOT REOCCUR. *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED FROM A WELL KNOW DODGE DEALERSHIP IN CT. ASIDE FROM THE TERRIBLE AND FAULTY FIRESTONE TIRES, THE COMPASS HAS BEEN RELIABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED WITH REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES WHEN NEEDED. JUST LAST WEEK THE RADIO AND ELECTRONICS NEEDED TO BE RESET, BUT THE VEHICLE STARTED JUST FINE. THE NEXT MORNING IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL. THE ENGINE CRANKED OVER AND OVER BUT WOULD NOT START. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START, THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN NC, WHERE WE MOVED TO. THEY LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE FOR $86.00 AND WERE NOT ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE US WITH A LOANER CAR. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE JEEP ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT SO WE WERE SHOCKED. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED US ALMOST $750.00 TO REPLACE IT! I HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED GARAGE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. THE MECHANIC PULLED THE FUEL PUMP OUT AND TOLD ME THE SWITCH ON THE PUMP WAS MELTED! I'M NOT A MECHANIC BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THAT IS NOT SAFE, (HAVING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM INSIDE THE FUEL TANK). HE ALSO TOLD ME THE PUMP WAS ON NATIONAL BACK-ORDER. I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY JEEP FORUMS AND IT SEEMS I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T BELIEVE CONSUMERS SHOULD DISH OUT $22,000 FOR A NEW VEHICLE AND THEN BE SOL WHEN IT COMES TO REPLACING FAULTY PARTS LIKE THIS FUEL PUMP, JUST BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I BOUGHT A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 11 MONTHS AGO FROM LITHE CHEVROLET/DODGE/JEEP. IT HAD 64,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE 11 MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD THE CAR THE RACK AND PINION AND STEERING PUMP HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. AT MY EXPENSE. THE BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. MY STRUTS AND BRAND NEW TIRES ARE DESTROYED. THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO SEPARATE FROM THE FRAME. I STARTED HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WITHIN 1 WEEK OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY AND WOULD BLOW IT OFF AS ME BEING "SILLY". WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25 MPH WITH MY 6 MONTH OLD CHILD IN THE VEHICLE, MY CAR LOST ALL POWER. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON (FLASHING) AND SO DID THE SLIDE PROTECTION LIGHT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 20MPH AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE RAN VERY ROUGH LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE. LUCKILY I PUTTERED HOME AND MY CHILD WAS SAFE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND AFTER ALMOST 5 DAYS OF TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PCM NEEDED REPLACED. THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE "VERY CONFIDENT" THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. WELL TODAY, THEY PCM WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP STILL CANNOT PINPOINT THE PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, I WAS SO SCARED AS I ALSMOT GOT INTO A WRECK WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. MY 6 MONTH OLD CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN HURT, OR WORSE. EVEN IF THIS CAR GET FIXED, I WILL BE SO APPREHENSIVE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE IN IT WITH MY CHILD FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL GIVE OUT AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL IN MY OPINION. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS A REPAIR THAT I, OR OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS, SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AS 1. INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATORS WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEPLOYMENT. CURRENTLY WAITING FOR JEEP TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. AT OTHER TIMES, IT WOULDN'T START AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. MOST TIMES IT WOULD START. ONE DAY IT DID NOT START AT ALL AND WE DECIDED TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THAT MORNING, IT STARTED, BUT WE STILL TOOK IT IN. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON ALSO. WE TOLD THEM WE THINK ITS THE BATTERY BECAUSE WE HAD ISSUES WITH THAT ALREADY (BATTERY REPLACED IN 2010 AND AGAIN IN, I THINK, 2011, SOMETHING IN THE JEEP WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY). LONG BEACH CA DEALERSHIP. I THINK THEY CHARGED US A FEE TO HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, AND SAID IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. THEY SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, TO BRING IT BACK. OVER THE PAST YEAR, THE STALLING INCREASED AND THE JEEP WAS NOT STARTING CORRECTLY. AUG 1, 2012, APPROX. MILEAGE 104,000, WE TRIED TO START OUR JEEP, AND IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL. WE HAD IT TOWED TO BILOXI MS DEALERSHIP AND WE TOLD THEM THIS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN AND ANOTHER LIGHT I CANT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS FOR. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THEIR COMPUTER AND IT TOLD THEM IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. THEY PROCEEDED TO START TO REPLACE IT, BUT, BEFORE THEY DID, THEY CAME TO US AND HAD US LOOK AT THE CONNECTOR SWITCH FOR THE FUEL PUMP. IT HAD MELTED, HAD BURNS ON IT, AND HAD MELTED THROUGH THE PUMP. WHY THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL IS BEYOND ME WHEN I SEE OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM! THE MECHANIC SAID WE WERE LUCKY THIS THING HAD NOT CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE WE WERE DRIVING IT!! AND EVEN MORE DISTURBING, THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED UNDER THE BACKSEAT! WHAT IF WE HAD OUR GRANDSON WITH US AND IT CAUGHT FIRE, OR EVEN WORSE, EXPLODED? ANYONE WITH A JEEP COMPASS WITH THESE PROBLEMS SHOULD HAVE THEIR FUEL PUMPS LOOKED AT IMMEDIATELY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING A STATE INSPECTION, THE PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT BOTH LOWER FRONT CONTROL ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT FROM LANE TO LANE ABNORMALLY WHEN DRIVING 60 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED WHEN HE WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
LAST YEAR, 2010 I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIE RODS IN MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. IT ONLY HAD 36,000 MILES AT THE TIME. NOW I'M TOLD THE BALL JOINTS ARE BAD. I CAN'T DRIVE MY CARE BECAUSE IT THROWS ME ALL OVER THE ROAD. A VERY DEFINITE SAFETY PROBLEM, NOT TO MENTION THE MONEY I'M SHELLING OUT FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
