The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that engine oil needed to be added every 2 months. The contact stated that the message for low oil pressure was displayed. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle abruptly stalled without warning. The contact turned off the hazard lights and waited a while to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that 3 - 4 attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
SECOND TIME THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM. FIRST TIME ELECTRICAL ISSUES PREVENTED CAR FROM SHIFTING OUT OF GEAR AND CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF, I HAD TO PULL FUSES TO GET CAR TO SHUT DOWN. EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT EVEN ENGAGE. SO MY DAUGHTER HAD TO HOLD THE BRAKE BECAUSE SAID AUTO WAS STUCK IN REVERSE FOR OVER ONE HOUR. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THIS DEALERSHIP WAS NOT TRUTHFUL IN DISCLOSING THE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. WEB SHOWS SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING, WHY HAS THE NTHTSA NOT RECALLED THESE VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME SETUP. I BELIEVE IT'S TIMES THAT THIS CAR GETS REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
WAS DRIVING AND WENT TO TURN AND THE JEEP TURNED OFF WITH NO WARNING. IT TOOK ME A MINUTE FOR IT TO START AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THE JEEP DID THE SAME THING. I'M LUCKY THAT THERE WAS AN AREA FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO COAST INTO ON THE SIDE OFF THE ROAD OR I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO THE CLOSET DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE JEEP. I HAD 1K MILES LEFT TO MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND GET MY OIL CHANGED ALWAYS BEFORE 5K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THESE JEEPS BURN OIL FASTER THAN THEY SHOULD AND I SHOULD BUY SYNTHETIC OIL TO CARRY IN THE JEEP AND CHECK MY OIL EVERY COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES. THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE SOLUTION, AS I WOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED THE JEEP IF THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO CARRY OIL AROUND WITH ME & CHECK MY OIL EVERY COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS, AS THERE IS NO WARNING THAT YOUR OIL IS LOW BEFORE THE JEEP TURNS OFF. I TRAVEL AT LEAST 100 MILES A DAY FOR WORK AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND SHOULDN'T HAVE TO CHECK MY OIL EVERY OTHER DAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE OIL WAS LOW. BEST CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (520 COLONY PL, PLYMOUTH, MA 02360) STATED THAT THE CONTACT NEEDED TO CHANGE THE OIL EVERY THREE WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
THE PARKING BREAK ENGAGES BY ITSELF WHEN PARKED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS SON WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS ABLE TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AND OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO (CROTON AUTO PARK 1 MUNICIPAL PL, CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY 10520 (914) 271-5100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V670000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS TAKEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,039. *DT*JB
ENGINE IS FAILING MULTIPLE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AT DEALERSHIP. WHEN ASKED WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS FOR A RESOLUTION WE ARE TOLD IT IS ONLY DOCUMENTED. THE VEHICLE IS BURNING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES.
THE JEEP HAS GONE INTO LIMP MODE TWICE. FIRST TIME WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. JEEP WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP SAME DAY. REPAIRED ONCE ADVISED THERE WAS A MOTHER BOARD ISSUE. THE SECOND TIME DEALER UNABLE TO REPLICATE NO REPAIR MADE. TURN STARTED TO GET STUCK AROUND THE SAME TIME. TURN SIGNAL KEEPS GETTING STUCK HAS BEEN SENT TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES ISSUE STILL NOT REPAIRED. *TR
I'VE OWNED A 2018 JEEP COMPASS FOR 2 MONTHS I BOUGHT IT WITH LESS THAN 50 MILES ON IT. AT 3500 MILES THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF RANDOMLY. YOU HAVE TO PUT THE JEEP IN PARK TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAUSE OF THIS IS THE JEEP CONSUMES OIL AG A RATE OF A QUART PER 1000 MILES AND THE JEEP IS INSTALLED WITH A FAIL SAFE THAT KILLS THE MOTOR SO IT DOESN'T HARM THE MOTOR BUT WILL LEAVE YOU STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE ONLY WAY TO RESTART THE CAR IS TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT.THERE IS NO LOW OIL WARNINGS OR OIL CHANGE INDICATORS. THE RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE IS 5000 MILES
TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCKED IN REVERSE, WHEN THIS HAPPENS ENGINE WILL NOT SHUT OFF,SHIFT WILL NOT MOVE OR DISENGAGE, HAVE TO HOLD BRAKE PEDDLE DOWN OR HAVE ACCIDENT. NO SHUT DOWN, HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE PULL FUSE UNDER THE HOOD TO SHUT CAR OFF. WAS IN MOTION IN REVERSE IN A PARKING LOT, ALMOST HIT CAR BEHIND ME. UPON FIRST STOP OF DAY-ONLY ON FIRST STOP, THE BRAKES STOP VEHICLE EXTREMELY HARD, IF NOT WEARING SEAT BELT-YOU WOULD IMPACT WINDSHIELD. AFTER TRAVELING FOR 10MIN BRAKES WORK CORRECTLY, THIS HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE - VEHICLE IS AT DEALER NOW AND HAS BEEN FOR TWO WEEKS-WITH NO CORRECTIVE ACTION YET.
CAR HAS A KNOWN MECHANICAL DEFECT IN THE CAR CAUSING IT TO BURN OIL AT AN ACCELERATED RATE. CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL AND LOSE STEERING BRAKES, AND ALL COMPUTER OPERATED SYSTEMS. SERVICE BULLETIN # 09-007-18 REV A. WAS FAILED TO BE DISCLOSED AT TIME OF PURCHASE CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN. HAVE HAPPEN AROUND FEB 2019, JULY 2019 AND AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019. CAR WAS BOUGHT IN THE END OF NOVEMBER OF 2018. *DT *AS
WHEN MY VEHICLE HITS 47 MPH IT STARTS MAKING A VERY LOUD HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE NOISE CONTINUES TO BE PERSISTENT UNTIL I SLOW DOWN TO LESS THAN 30 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALERSHIP BUT JEEP DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY SAY THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A SOFTWARE UPDATE SINCE EARLY 2018. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S DAMAGING MY VEHICLE BUT IT IS EXTREMELY LOUD.
WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, MY CAR SHUT OFF INSTANTLY, NO WARNING. THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR THAT A CAR WAS NOT DRIVING BEHIND ME! MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS EXTREMELY LOW. CAR ONLY HAS, 2,840 MILES ON IT. BOUGHT THE CAR NEW ON, 6/30/2018, WITH ONLY, 28 MILES ON IT. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE OIL WAS EMPTY AND THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. HE SAID THIS IS HAPPENING WITH THIS MODEL AND OTHER JEEP/DODGE VEHICLES WITH THIS MOTOR. THE MECHANIC DID AN OIL CHANGE AND STATED TO BRING THE CAR BACK AFTER 500 MILES TO CHECK THE OIL AGAIN. HE STATED IF THE OIL LOST HAPPENS AGAIN, THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, WITH THE SAME TYPE OF ENGINE AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. I THINK THIS IS ABSURD FOR A NEW VEHICLE WITH SO LITTLE MILES ON IT! FIAT/CHRYSLER IS NO HELP AND WILL NOT GIVE ANY OPTIONS OTHER THAN REPLACING THE ENGINE. SHAMEFUL AND SHOWS THEY DO NOT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS TIME NOR FEELINGS. THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE THESE CARS WITH THESE SAME DEFECTED ENGINES. IF YOU SEARCH, JEEP BURNING OIL, YOU WILL FIND A TON OF COMPLAINTS.
THE VEHICLE HAS 1700 MILES AND STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. TOOK 15 MIN FOR IT TO START BACK UP. THE FIRST TIME WITH 300 MILES THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE BATTERIES WERE BAD. *BF CONSUMER VEHICLE STALLED TWICE AND WAS TOWED. THE FIRST WAS DUE TO PRIMARY AND AUXILLARY FAILING AND PRIMARY BATTERY TERMINAL WAS NOT SECURED TO THE LEAD. BOTH BATTERIES WERE REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME IT STALLED WAS DUE TO STARTER AND ALTERNATOR CABLES AT THE BATTERY FUSE BLOCKED OVERTIGHTENED WHICH CAUSED DAMAGED TO BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL. FUSE BLOC WAS REPLACED ALSO DURING BOTH INCIDENTS, STEERING WHEEL WAS INORPERABLE.*JB
A FEW MONTHS AFTER OWNING THIS VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 4,000 MILES ON IT JUST STOPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE MY 16 YO WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY CITY STREET. SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL US. WE DRIVE 40 MIN TO WHERE SHE WAS AND THE CAR STARTED UP. I DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, BUT UPDATED A FEW COMPUTER THINGS. WITHIN A FEW DAYS IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO MY DAUGHTER AS THIS IS HER CAR. THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS ALMOST NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE CAR IN FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING EVERY 1,000 MILES AND I KNOW THAT BETWEEN THE 2,000-3,000 MILE POINT THE OIL IS BELOW THE 'SAFE ZONE'. IN ONE YEAR WITH 10,000 MILES IN THIS CAR, I HAVE MADE 6 TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE HAD TO PUT NUMEROUS QUARTS OF OIL IN THIS CAR. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. THIS IS A VERY CONCERNING ISSUE FOR ANYONE DRIVING THESE VEHICLES AND MAKES ME NERVOUS EVERY TIME MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THIS 'NEW' CAR. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THESE CARS HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. THERE IS NO LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT. THIS CAR JUST STOPS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF IT HASN'T ALREADY.
AFTER USING THE REMOTE START AND GETTING IN THE VEHICLE I WAS ABLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE OR PRESSING THE START/STOP BUTTON TO ALLOW THE WHEEL TO MOVE FREELY, IN TURN ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FORWARD ON A HILL WITHOUT BEING FULLY TURNED ON THUS NOT ALLOWING FOR THE POWER STEERING TO WORK AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN POSITION. WHEN IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, AFTER PLACING IT BACK INTO PARK THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL NOT START BUT CONTINUED TO BE ABLE TO ROLL FORWARD WHEN MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLES START/STOP WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED FOR FOR UP TO 3 MINUTES THEN THE CAR VERY SUDDENLY SHOOK, POWERED DOWN, AND I WAS ABLE TO PLACE IT IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR VIA THE START/STOP BUTTON AND NORMAL OPERATION WAS RESUMED.
EVERY TIME I AM DRIVING MY CAR MY CAR WILL DO WHAT I CALL A "SPAZ OUT" MOMENT. THE DASH WARNING LIGHTS ALL COME ON AND A LOUD DING BEGINS. MY CAR DASH LIGHTS UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND EACH NOTICE POPS UP: TRANSMISSION NEEDS SERVICE, 4 WHEEL DRIVE NEEDS SERVICED. TRACTION SYSTEM NEEDS SERVICE, EMERGENCY BREAK NEEDS SERVICE. THEN THEY ALL GO OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. I AM VERY WORRY FOR MY SAFETY AND OTHER IF THIS VEHICLE LOCKS THE WHEELS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY. MOST MY DRIVING IS ON THE HIGH WAY AT THE SPEED OF 70MPHS.
I BOUGHT THE COMPASS WITH 136 MILES ON IT. AROUND THE 4500 MILE MARK MY JEEP DIED AS I WAS ACCELERATING ON A STRAIGHT, 25 MPH STREET SEGMENT AFTER MAKING A TURN 30 FEET PRIOR. AFTER BRINGING THE JEEP IN IMMEDIATELY FOR SERVICE, THE TECHNICIANS FOUND NOTHING WRONG. TWO DAYS LATER I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY ROAD. A LOG TRUCK WAS COMING BUT I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PULL OUT AND ACCELERATE WITHOUT CREATING A NEED FOR THE LOG TRUCK TO BRAKE. AS I BEGAN TO PULL OUT, MY JEEP DIED WITH THE NOSE SLIGHTLY INTO THE LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT FOLLOWED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE JEEP STARTED AFTER A MINUTE AND DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE SERVICE CENTER. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO LOW OIL AND THAT IT WAS AN ENGINE PROTECTION FEATURE. HEY JEEP/CHRYLSER...HOW IS AN ENGINE PROTECTION FEATURE THAT PROVIDES NO WARNING A BETTER OPTION THAN THE VEHICLE STALLING IN THE PATH OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC? SINCE THOSE INCIDENTS, I NOTICE I BURN OIL FAST AND SPEND MORE MONEY CONSTANTLY POURING OIL INTO MY JEEP THAN I DO ON MY 2005 SILVERADO WITH OVER 115,000 MILES. EITHER INSTALL A SENSOR THAT ALERTS THE DRIVER OF A LOW OIL CONDITION PRIOR TO THE JEEP STALLING IN TRAFFIC OR RETHINK YOUR DESIGN! WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE? NOW MY JEEP HESITATES WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE, BUT DOES NOT STALL SINCE I ADD A QUART FREQUENTLY.
MY 2018 JEEP COMPASS HAS HAD BOTH KEY FOBS DIE WITHIN 2 YEARS OF PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MOST CONCERNING THING IS THAT MY VEHICLE WILL START AND I CAN DRIVE AND THEN MY CAR WILL SAY 'KEY FOB NOT DETECTED' AND I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE IF SOMEONE WHERE TRYING TO DRIVE AWAY WITH MY CAR, HOWEVER I AM DRIVING MY CAR AND I HAVE THEY KEYS INSIDE. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN THE WINTER MONTHS THAN THE SUMMER. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE WINTER COLD CAUSES THE BATTERY OF THE KEY FOB TO DRAIN OR NOT WORK PROPERLY. MY CAR WILL NOT START OR UNLOCK, THEN ONCE I AM ABLE TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE IT HAS A DIFFICULT TIME DETECTING THE KEY FOB (EVEN WHEN FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION MANUAL SHOT A DEAD FOB). THE VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY DETECT THE FOB AND START. THEN ON MY DRIVE THE KEY FOB NEEDS TO BE ON THE DASH NEXT TO THE START ENGINE BUTTON SO I CAN DRIVE AND EVEN THEN IT CAN RESULT IN NOT BEING DETECTED AND STALLING THE VEHICLE. I FIND THIS A VERY CONCERNING ISSUE.
"TAKATA RECALL" EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF OIL, THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IN MY 2018 JEEP COMPASS IS I'M CHANGING MY OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES AND BEFORE I REACH THE 3 000 MILES I HAVE TO BUY 2 QUARTS OF OIL, AND I'M USING 100% SYNTHETIC OIL. MY MILEAGE IS 8230.
2018 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED BOUGHT BRAND NEW WOULD NOT START WITH APPROX. 240 MILES ON IT. WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. CALLED DEALER, WAS TOLD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. CAR STARTED AFTER SOME TIME, CANCELLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I DROVE CAR TO DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS, SAID IT WAS SOFTWARE AND SAID CAR SEEMED TO FIX ITSELF. I DROVE CAR HOME THAT SAME DAY. SECOND TIME ,SAME ISSUE, CAR WOULD NOT START WITH APPRX. 3600 MILES . I HAD JUST COME OUT OF THE SUPERMARKET. CALLED DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, CALLED JEEP ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, WHO LEFT ME SITTING IN THE COLD FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS. COLD AND VERY ANGRY I CANCELLED THAT TOW AND USED MY TRIPLE AAA AND MY LOCAL TOW GUY,(WHO HAD THE JEEP LOADED ON THE FLATBED IN HALF AN HOUR) AND DROVE ME AND MY JEEP TO MY DEALER. SERVICE IS TRYING TO FIX THE CAR. THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR 3 DAYS NOW AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND. JEEP PROVIDED A RENTAL FOR 1 WEEK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE WITH THIS CAR. HOPING THEY CAN FIX IT OR IT IS MAYBE A LEMON. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS PARKED. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR LEAVE ME STRANDED LIKE THIS. I DO HAVE A CASE FILE WITH JEEP AND WAS TOLD SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME IN 1 BUSINESS DAY. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN, I CALLED THEM BACK AND WAS TOLD I WAS GIVEN INCORRECT INFORMATION AND THAT ACTUALLY THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME IN 24-48 HOURS. SO, I BETTER GET A PHONE CALL OR E-MAIL ON MONDAY. JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A SAFE CAR.. I DON'T FEEL THAT WAY NOW.
OIL CONSUMPTION LOW 2 QUARTS AT 3500 MILES CURRENTLY DOING OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REPLACING ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. MY VEHICLES TRANSMISSION, BEGINNING AT 30,000 MILES, STARTED TO LOCK UP. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS BOTH ACTIVATED. THIS ONLY OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND IDLED. I HAD TO PRESS GAS TURN VEHICLE OFF FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND RESTART TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION ICON. THE SAME LOCK UP STARTED TO HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AFTER I PASSED THE 36,000 MILES MARK. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY USING CRUISE CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I HAD TO PUT MY HAZARDS AND PULL OVER. THIS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN NOW. AUTOZONE STATES THE CODE POPS UP WITH U1428. I THEN START TO HAVE START UP ISSUES AT 50,000 MILES. THE START/STOP SYSTEM IS UNAVAILABLE AND THE LIGHT REFLECT 'A!' HAS BEEN ACTIVARE SINCE. THIS HAS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO GET REALLY HOT. CONSTANT OIL BURNING. AND GAS BURNING. WHEN AUTOZONE CHECK CODE IT POPPED UP P1DD2 (WITH NO DESCRIPTION OF WHAT THE CODE WAS CAUSED BY). THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL IS NOT STABLE. IN MULTIPLE INSTANCES MY VEHICLE LIGHTS AND POWER HAVE GONE IN AND OUT WHILE IDLE AND DRIVING. IT SLOWS DOWN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY. I HAVE HEARD A LOT ABOUT TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE ISSUES WITH THE NEWER JEEPS BUT I DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO ME. I DON'T THINK MY VEHICLE IS SAFE AND WOULD LIKE A MORE PROFESSIONAL INPUT SINCE THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM IS NEVER AVAILABLE TO ASSIST.
The vehicle backup camera has never worked reliably since we purchased the vehicle. It will work intermittently but lately for the last several weeks, the backup camera does not come on at all, ever. The dealership is saying we'd have to bring it in for a several hundred dollar assessment on how much it might cost to fix it and doing research online it could be hundreds into well over $1,000. We could install an aftermarket camera significantly cheaper, but since the vehicle has one in its system, it should freaking work!
THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING WHILE IN MOTION, WE EXPERIENCED THIS 3 TIMES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WE ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET, LUCKILY THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL AROUND US HONKING HIS HORN THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH. I CALLED JEEP/ CHRYSLER CORPORATE TO EXPRESS THE SAFETY CONCERNS AND THEY ADVISED THAT "THE ENGINE WAS DESIGNED TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE OIL WAS LOW TO PROTECT ITSELF". I REPLIED THAT THE VALUE OF AN ENGINE DOES NOT COMPARE TO THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY OR OTHER MOTORIST. THE DEALERSHIP TRACED THE ISSUE BACK TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION ON THE 4 CYLINDER ENGINES, THEY CLAIM THAT THROUGH THEIR OWN GUIDELINES IT IS OK FOR THE JEEP COMPASS TO BURN 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2,000 MILES (SEEMS HIGH). THE ENGINE BURNS THROUGH OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE AND IS DESIGNED TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE OIL IS LOW. THE 2018 JEEP COMPASS DOES NOT HAVE AN OIL PRESSURE GAUGE SO DRIVERS DO NOT HAVE A WARNING AS TO WHEN THE VEHICLE MAY POTENTIALLY SHUT-OFF. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THAT AS WELL AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS FOR ME TO CHECK AND ADD OIL EVERY TIME I PUMP GAS, SOMETHING YOU DON'T EXPECT TO DO ON A NEW VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE BUT HIS HANDS WERE TIED UNTIL CHRYSLER ISSUES A RECALL.

UPON GETTING THE CAR TO THE DESTINATION (HALF A MILE) THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER TURNED OFF CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT BACK ON. CAR INSTRUMENTS TURNED ON; HOWEVER, WOULD WAS OBSERVED CLICKING AND WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE START/STOP IS ILLUMINATED. I HAVE READ MANY OF THE "COMPLAINTS" FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THEY ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE SAME THINGS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING.
I HAVE ABOUT 5500 MILES ON MY NEW COMPASS. WHILE IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE DISPLAY FLASHED 'OIL PRESSURE LOW' FOR LESS THAN A SECOND. THEN ANY INDICATION OF THAT WARNING LIGHT IS GONE. ON NOVEMBER 27, 2018, I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING MIDWAY THRU THE TURN. I WAS ALMOST IN A CRASH. I GOT THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I STARTED THE ENGINE. YOU COULD NOT HEAR IT RUNNING BUT THE RPM GAUGE REGISTERD AROUN 5-500 RPM. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IT BEGAN TO RUN. I CALL THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND THE SOONEST I COULD GET TO THE DEALER WAS THE 29TH. I DELIVERED THE CAR TO THE DEALER EARLY ON THE 29TH. THE DEAL CALLED ME AROUND 5:30 PM THE SAME DAY TO EXPLAIN THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL AND THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT OFF. THEY ASKED ME TO DO A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I RETURNED THE CAR ON DECEMBER THE 7. I STARTED THE CAR THAT MORNING AND IT SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR HAD NO OIL IT WHILE IT WAS RUNNING. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR 10-15 MIN AND RETURNED IT TO ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS FINE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THE OIL WAS LOW. SINCE THEN I SPOKE TO AJ AT THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THE CAR WAS THREE QUARTS LOW ON OIL WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN ON DECEMBER 27TH. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE FOR THE VEHICLE WHEN THE OIL GETS LOW. I HAVE HAD ALL SERVICE DONE AT THE DEALER. I DO NOT TRUST THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED.

WE WERE DILIGENT ON GETTING OIL CHANGED PER RECOMMENDATIONS. 8/2018, PULLING OUT IN INTERSECTION, VEHICLE DIED, SPONTANEOUSLY ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS HAPPEND A FEW MORE TIMES WE TOOK IN FOR SERVICE. 11/2018, (WELL WITHIN THE LEMON LAW GUIDELINES)WE TOOK TO THE WAXAHACHIE. THEY INSPECTED IT/CHANGED OIL, THEY TOLD US IT WAS LOW ON OIL, THAT THE DYING OF THE CAR WAS A SAFETY MECHANISM AND WE JUST NEEDED TO CHANGE THE OIL MORE OFTEN. KEEP IN MIND, THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED PER VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS. WE BEGAN CHANGING THE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. THE VEHICLE STILL DIED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, GOING DOWN THE TOLLWAY, PULLING OUT ON THE SERVICE ROAD TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY, MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS WITH CHILDREN IN VEHICLE. 10/1/2019, FRUSTRATED/CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY, TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN FOR SERVICE. AT THIS TIME IT HAD ONLY BEEN 2000 MILES SINCE THE WAS OIL CHANGED, WAS LOW ON OIL. THIS IS WHEN WE WERE TOLD THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND WE NEVER GOT A RECALL. HAD US BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IN EVERY 1000 MILES FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. 10/15/2019, 2 QTS LOW AFTER 1000 MILES. THEY ORDERED NEW ENGINE. THEY WERE BACKED UP SO ON11/12/19 THEY CALLED TO BRING CAR IN FOR NEW ENGINE 11/22, WE PICKED UP CAR, DROVE APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES, OVERHEATED. WE RETURNED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY KEPT IT/WE PICKED UP 11/26, DROVE TWO MILES/DIED GOING DOWN SERVICE ROAD. WE TOOK BACK. 12/2, PICKED UP/ WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DURING TEST DRIVE. LEFT THERE. PICKED UP 12/4/19. 1/4/20,VEHICLE OVERHEATED WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO WAXAHACHIE.10 DAYS LATER, THEY SAID NEEDS NEW ENGINE. 3RD ENGINE/LESS THAN 2 YEAR OLD CAR. MULTIPLE TRAILERS TESTED. DEALER HAS REPLACED TRAILER CONTROL MODULE TWICE AND PROBLEM PERSISTS. STILL NO RESOLUTION TO PROBLEM. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION WHEN TOWING.
