WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED CAR SHAKES EXCESSIVELY. CONSUMER FEELS AS IF WILL LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED, AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S HEADLIGHTS LENS HAVE DISCOLORED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LIGHT EMITTED HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY REDUCED. WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS AS THE LENS CONTINUE TO DISCOLOR, AND THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSE HAS BEEN "WE CAN REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY" AT MY EXPENSE. THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED DISCOLORING WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE HEADLIGHTS ARE "TRIM" THEREFORE NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE PLASTIC DISCOLORATION IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AS THE DISCOLORATION PROGRESSES THE LENS RESTRICTS THE LIGHT EMISSIONS AND THEREFORE THE EFFECTIVENESS. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP? *JB

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIMMY AND SHAKE. WHEN TAKING THE VEHICLE TO DEALER, THE DEALER STATED THAT ALL FOUR ROTORS WHERE WARPED. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK *SCC

ROTORS WARPED AT 27,000 - DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM . VEHICLE SHUDDRERS UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN BRAKING HARD. IF THE DRIVER RARELY BRAKES HARD, HE MAY NOT REALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL HE FORCEFULLY APPLIES THE BRAKES. AT THAT POINT, IT IS VERY EASY TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. , . THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTINGS WITH THIS PROBLEM - CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO MAKE JEEP RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEMS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. THIS IS A CAR THAT FAMILIES BUY BECAUSE IT HAS A GOOD "SAFETY RECORD, BUT IT HAS A SERIOUS DEFECT.PAC. *AK
SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKE ROTORS.*MR WHILE BRAKING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *NM
BRAKES - ROTORS WARP ABOUT EVERY 9 TO 12,000 MILES. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED 3 TIMES AND ARE NOW IN NEED AGAIN. TRANSMISSION - THE OVERDRIVE SLIPS AS IT ENGAGES. TACHOMETER SHOWS THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASING AS THE OD ENGAGES, THAN DROPS AS IT FINALLY FULLY ENGAGES.
CONSUMER STATES THERE IS VIBRATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT 15 - 50 MPH. AS SPEED IS INCREASED, VIBRATION IS VIOLENT AND STEERING UNCONTROLLABLE. VEHICLE TAKEN TO AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER, HAD SCHEDULING PROBLEMS. LOCAL LUBE SERVICE INSPECTED FRONT BRAKES AND DETERMINED AN UNEVEN WEAR OF THE ROTORS CASUED THE VIBRATION. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN RELATING TO THIS FAILURE, HOWEVER, MANUFACTURER DENIES CLAIM, STATING THAT REPAIRS WERE NOT MADE AT AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. *TT
MY VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND DURING THE ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE OFF OF THE TRACKS AND I SUSTAINED A LACERATION TO THE BOTTOM OF MY RIGHT FOOT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE ACCIDENT TO REPORT WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS THEN CONTACTED BY AN INSPECTOR FROM CHRYSLER AND AFTER THAT I ONLY KNOW THAT THE FILE HAS BEEN SENT TO A LAW FIRM IN WASHINGTON D.C. APPARENTLY THE COMPANY THOUGHT I WAS MAKING A CLAIM AGAINST THEM, WHICH WAS NEVER MY INTENT. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE INSPECTION. I SAW A LOCAL LAWYER YESTERDAY 9/30/02 AND HE FEELS THAT I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO OBTAIN THE INSPECTION RESULTS BECAUSE CHRYSLER WOULD BE DOING AN INJUSTICE TO THEMSELVES. MY HAS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED AND THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS MELTED WHERE IT PLUGS INTO THE RESISTOR THAT GOES TO THE BLOWER MOTOR. I WENT TO A LOCAL SALVAGE YARD IN HOPES OF FINDING A WRECKED VEHICLE SIMILAR TO OURS TO BUT THE WIRING HARNESS. TO MY DISMAY HE HAD 2 BUT THERE WAS ONLY ONE PROBLEM THEY HAD BURNED, WITH FIRES STARTING AT THE RESISTOR DESCRIBED ABOVE. I LEFT JEEP AN EMAIL EXPLAINING WHAT I FOUND AND THAT WAS AFRAID OURS WOULD COME TO THE SAME FATE. THERE RESPONSE WAS THAT THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SO I WENT THE A LOCAL JEEP DEALER TO BUY A NEW WIRING HARNESS($500 THEIR COST)AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A PATCH OR FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. I DON'T MIND SPENDING THE MONEY TO FIX OUR CAR BUT IF THERE WAS NOT A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHY WOULD THERE BE A PATCH OR QUICK FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE A 2 YR. OLD SON AND I REALLY DON'T WANT MY WIFE TO USE THIS CAR BUT WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. I JUST WONDER HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND NEVER REPORTED IT, NOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON CERTAIN DODGE RAM PICK UPS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM, WHY HASN'T THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BEEN RECALLED? *AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE VIN [XXX] AT APPROXIMATELY. 15,000 MILES: FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED RESULTING IN A SEVERE SHIMMY/JERKING OF THE FRONT TIRES WHICH RESULTED IN PULLING THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. DEALER SAID TOUGH LUCK, EXPENSE INCLUDED ROTOR REPAIR AND DAMAGED FRONT TIRES. NOW AT 40,000 MILES PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE RETURNING. BASED ON PREVIOUS RECALLS, TALKING TO DEALERS, BRAKE REPAIR SHOPS AND READING MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS OUR LOCAL SCHOOL VAN TRAVELING WITH STUDENTS HAVING A WRECK BECAUSE OF ROTOR FAILURE, IT IS MORE THAN OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A KNOWN SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH INFERIOR/UNSAFE BRAKE ROTORS. LIKE MOST AMERICANS, I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO STORIES OF HOW THE AUTO MANUFACTURES ARE KNOWINGLY WILLING TO TRADE A FEW HUNDRED LIVES TO AVOID THE EXPENSE OF RECALLS AND BUILDING CARS WITH SAFE COMPONENTS. IT DOESN'T TAKE A REAL BRIGHT PERSON TO KNOW THAT WHEN THE STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEM ON A CAR FAILS WHILE TRAVELING AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND IN MY CASE ON TREACHEROUS MOUNTAIN ROADS THAT SERIOUS ACCIDENTS MAY AND WILL RESULT. MY GOAL IS TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ADDRESSED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND INDUSTRY-WIDE BEFORE, NOT AFTER, THE BODY COUNTS START ADDING UP. WHILE IN MOTION, CONSUMER WAS REAR ENDED. THE REAR SEAT HEADRESTS WERE EJECTED FROM THEIR HOLDERS STRIKING THE CONSUMER AND THE PASSENGER IN THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS CAUSING DEEP CUTS. ALSO, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *JG *JB
BRAKES BEGAN TO SHAKE VEHICLE'S FRONT END VIOLENTLY WHEN APPLIED AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. I ORIGINALLY NOTICED PROBLEM AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUED TO WORSEN. BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND ROTORS RESURFACED AT 19,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. I HAVE NEVER REPLACED BRAKES ON A CAR AT 19,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AFTER $190.00 DOLLAR REPAIR THE CAR IS BACK ON THE ROAD TILL I GUESS THE NEXT BRAKE REPAIR AT 35,000 MILES. THIS DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY DAIMLER/CHRYSLER. SOMEONE WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DIE. *AK
AFTER MAKING SEVERAL APPOINTMENTS WITH DEALERSHIP TO HAVE RECALL 02V104000 REPAIRS DONE, DEALERSHIP WILL EITHER CANCEL OR SAY PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE.*AK
AT 24,000 MILES STEERING WHEEL SHAKES ON BRAKING. DEALERSHIP SERVICE STATION STATES THAT FORNT AND REAR ROTORS ARE WARPED. REAR ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED (FOR THE SECOND TIME; THEY WERE RESURFACED AT 9,000 MILES THE FIRST TIME). THE FRONT CALIPERS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (AT 9,000 MILES FRONT ROTORS WERE RESURFACED TOO). NOT UNDER WARRANTY. NEEDED TO PAY $600.00 AFTER 15% BRAKE SERVICE COUPON (FIGURE THIS!). IN MY OPINION, THESE ROTORS ARE A TOTAL DESIGN FLAW AND NEED TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DURING THE TIME OF FACTORY WARRANTY. SERVICE TOLD ME THE REPLACEMENT ROTORS ARE REINFORCED (FIGURE THIS ONE TOO) WHICH TRANSLATES TO ME THAT CHRYSLER IS FULLY AWARE OF THEIR BAD ROTORS IN JEEP GRAN CHEROKEE (LIMITED) VEHICLES. SHAME ON THEM LETTING THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS PAY FOR SOMETHING TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. THIS DEFINITELY CRIES FOR A REAL BAD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.*AK
VEHICLE HAS HAD THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS 21,000 MILES AND IT WAS DONE UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE PROBLEM HAS RECCURRED AND THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *JB *SC
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK AFTER FILLING IT UP AT THE GAS STATION. FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS TANK. CONDITION GOES AWAY AND THEN RETURNS AGAIN 9-12 MONTHS AFTER REPAIR. OBDVIOUSLY PARTS ARE FAILING FOR THE SAME REASON. CAR WILL LOSE APPROX.3 GALLONS AFTER LEAVING GAS STATION DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP DEAD IF THEY DONT CORRECT THIS. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE SAME RECALL. I CANT AFFORD THE PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR IT, LEAVING ME NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT.
CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT THE ROTORS WORE OUT PREMATURELY. AT 60,000 MILES DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS. AT 82,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. ALSO, ROTORS HAD TO BE TURNED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITHIN THE ABOVE MILEAGES. DEALER WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *AK
AT THE TIME I WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS FROM WARPED ROTORS WHICH CAUSED CAR AND STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY ESPECIALLY WHEN EXITING OFF FREEWAY. MY ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS TOLD "THE TECH COULD NOT VERIFY AT THIS TIME. TECH TURNED OFF LIGHT". CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, 17,747 MILES AND TWO YEARS OLD. FIVE YEARS LATER, 58,968 MILES AND NO WARRANTY I HAVE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND TOLD," TORQUE CONVERTER FAULTY REQUIRES TRANSMISSION REMOVAL AFTER RUNNING SYSTEM SCAN". *JB
WHILE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN IDLE AND IN NEUTRAL IT STARTED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 50-60 MPH WHILE CONSUMER HAD FOOT ON BRAKES.*AK VEHICLE CRASHED AND ROLLED OVER, CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. *SLC
WHILE IDLING IN MY MOTHER-IN-LAW'S GARAGE MY JEEP JUMPED INTO DRIVE AND SLAMMED INTO THE GARAGE WALL. I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT IT WAS NOT A MECHANICAL ERROR.

ROTORS FAIL WITHOUT WARNING, HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE
JEEP IS EQUIPPED WITH ABS BRAKES. THE BRAKE PAD ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE WITHIN 8000 MILES ACCUMULATION. TS THERE WAS A SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL DUE TO THE BRAKE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE MONIES SPENT ON REPAIR. SCC
AT SPEED ABOVE 50 MILES PER HOUR SEVERE SHAKING OF STEERING WHEEL ALMOST LOSE CONTROL. BRAKE ROTORS WARPED AT APPROXIMATELY. 9000 MILES AND WERE TURNED BY LOCAL DEALER ROTORS WARPED AGAIN AT APPROXIMATELY. 20,000. I HAD ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED BY LOCAL MECHANIC. *NLM
IT'S HARD TO STOP, AND WHEN PRESSING ON BRAKES STEERING WHEEL WILL VIBRATE. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
TAIL LIGHTS OUT, ALARM SYSTEM WILL GO OFF BY ITSELF, WINDOWS MALFUNCTIONIN, AND WHILE DRIVING YOU CAN HEARTHE LOCKS, LOCKING AND UNLOCKING.
THE NHTSB SHOULD MAKE DAIMLER/CHRYSLER FIX JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEMS AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. OUR JGC HAD ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED AT 14000 MI. BECAUSE OF STRONG VIBRATION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED WAS BAD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN CONTROL. THAT TIME, D/C WOULD NOT COVER THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR BRAKES ENDED AT 12000 MI. THE DEALER REPLACED THEM AT THEIR EXPENSE. ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS MUST BE REPLACED AGAIN AT 27000 MI. BECAUSE OF THE SAME VIBRATION PROBLEM. NEITHER D/C NOR THE DEALER WILL COVER THE COSTS THIS TIME, ALTHOUGH THEY BOTH ADMIT THERE IS A CHRONIC RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKE ROTORS DUE TO FLAWED ENGINEERING.*AK
TAILGATE WOULD NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE. DEALER CONTACTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
BOTH FRONT AND REAR SIDE DOORS ARE UNABLE TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE. DEALER CONTACTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY AN ENGINE FIRE PRIOR TO THE RECALL ON INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT RESULTS IN UNDER HOOD FIRE. *YH *SCC
AT 21,500 MILES THIS IS MY THIRD SET OF ROTORS TO BE REPLACED.*AK
FRONT AND REAR ROTORS HAVE FAILED (WARPED) SIX TIMES ON THIS VEHICLE. *AK
CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND KEPT THE ENGINE RUNNING WHILE GETTING THE MAIL. CONSUMER RETURNED WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE GEAR. WIHTOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS TWO CAR LENGTHS. SUDDENLY WITH OUT CONSUMERS ASSISTANCE, THE VEHICLE REVVED AND ACCELERATED WITH FULL POWER. CONSUMER HAD HIS FOOT PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT MOVING. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. *JG
VEHICLE HIT A CONCRETE BASE TO A LIGHTNING STANDARD IN A PARKING LOT ON THE FRONT FENDER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AT APPROXIMATELY 1-2 MPH. THE FORCE PUSHED THE PASSENGER FORWARD WHO WAS RESTRAINED IN A SEAT BELT BUT HER STRENUM WAS FRACTURED. NO INJURY TO THE DRIVER.
BOLT THAT HOLDS PITMAN ARM TO STEERING LINKAGE WAS LOOSE AND COTTER PIN WAS MISSING. *AK
MY SON WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREADO WHEN HE WAS HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE ON MARCH 25, 2002 AT APPROX. 1:30 PM. THE FORCE OF THIS COLLISION PUSH THE CAR TOWARDS THE LEFT AND THE JEEP WENT DIRECTLY INTO A CEMENT WALL HEAD ON. FORTUNATELY BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER HAD SEAT BELTS ON, BUT NEITHER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT THE WALL. AT THE TIME OF IMPACT, MY SON DID HIT THE WINDSHEILD, WHICH CAUSE SEVERAL FACIAL CUTS AND COULD OF BEEN AVOIDED HAD THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THIS MALFUNCTION ON MY VEHICLE CONCERNS ME NOT ONLY BECAUSE HE COULD OF BEEN MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED, BUT OTHERS IN SAME SITUATIONS COULD SUBSTAIN VERY SERIOUS INJURIES. NLM
RECURRING WARPING OF BRAKE ROTORS UNDER NORMAL USE CAUSING EXCESSIVE VIBRATION IN STEERING UNDER BRAKING AT ALL SPEEDS. ROTORS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED TWICE (AT 7986 AND 29489 MILES), ROTORS REPLACED (AT 45176 MILES), PROBLEM STILL RECURRING. DEALER INDICATES CALIPER PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF AND DEVELOPING FIX, BUT NO NOTIFICATION OR FOLLOW UP FROM DEALER. MR
DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW HAS STOPPED WORKING 3 TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE ONLY TEMPORARILY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM.
IT IS OBVIOUS THIS PROBLEM WITH SEVERELY DEFECTIVE BRAKE ROTORS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT. I FEEL THAT IF THE PROPER SAFETY ORGANIZATION WERE TO INVESTIGATE THIS THOROUGHLY BY TESTING BRAKING DISTANCE, BRAKE HANDLING,AND HOW ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS AFFECTED IT WOULD BE FOUND TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD IN ALL THE VEHICLES INVOLVED. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF SOME ACCIDENTS COULD HAVE ALL READY BEEN AVOIDED IF THIS ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. THIS IS A MUCH MORE WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM THAN MAY BE REALIZED AS MY BROTHER-INLAW HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, BUT HE JUST HAD THEM REPLACE BOTH FRONT ROTORS, AT HIS COST. I'M SURE JEEP IS NOT WRITING TO THE NHTSA EVERY TIME THEY REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE ROTORS, DO THEY?
ON VACATION TRAVELING THROUGH NEW MEXICO AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 75 MPH ON IH40, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED A VIOLENT SHIMMY OR PULSATION IN THE FRONT END OCCURED WHICH WAS TRANSLATED TO THE STEERING WHEEL MAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE QUESTIONABLE. CHRYSLER ROAD ASSISTANCE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY RECOMMENDED HATCH MOTOR CO. IN SHOW LOW, ARIZONA WHICH WAS OUR DESTINATION. HATCH REMOVED AND TURNED THE FRONT ROTORS WHICH WAS NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE ORIGINAL WARANTY OR THE EXTENDED WARANTY. THE PROBLEM WAS IMPROVED BUT NOT COMPLETELY ELIMINATED. ON THE RETURN TRIP TO CARROLLTON, TEXAS, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO WORSEN. UPON OUR RETURN HOME, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, HUFFINES, WHO TURNED THE ROTORS A SECOND TIME STATING THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND THAT ALL ROTORS NEEDED TURNING AT 30,000 MILES. AGAIN, THIS WORK WAS NOT COVERED BY EITHER OF THE WARANTYS. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS A 1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY AND AFTER MORE THAN 90,000 MILES, THE ROTORS HAD NEVER BEEN TURNED AND THE BRAKES WERE PERFECT. SOMETHING IS BASICALLY WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL INSTALLATION, DESIGN OR QUALITY OF THESE ROTORS. THEY SHOULD NOT FAIL AT SUCH LOW MILAGE AND IN SUCH A DANGEROUS FASHION. PLEASE INSIST THAT CHRYSLER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. NLM
AFTER RESEARCHING A PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE ON-LINE, A WEBSITE ENCOUAGED ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE. MY VEHICLE SHAKES (STEERING WHEEL AND WHOLE TRUCK) WHEN EVEN SLIGHTLY TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SPEEDS OF GREATER THAN 40 MPH. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE LOCATED ON THE INTERNET, AND WHAT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME, THIS IS A VERY VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2000 JEEP. I FEEL AS IF I COULD EASILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE SHAKING. THE DEALERSHIP STATES CHRYSLER DOES NOT COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THEY SHOULD FIND A WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AS MOST PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE ROTORS BURN OUT AGAIN AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES.*AK
FIRST NOTICED VIBRATION WHEN STOPPING DUE TO WARPED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS BEFORE 10000 MILES. HAD SERVICED AT DEALER AT 13373 MILES PER DAILMER-CHRYSLER TSB (ROTORS TURNED DOWN, NEW "IMPROVED" BRAKE PADS). PROBLEM REOCCURRED AND WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AT 29899 MILES. DEALER ADMITS THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM, BUT DAILMER-CHRYSLER WILL NOT, AND HENCE WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY NOR PROVIDE A MORE DURABLE FIX. COMPLAINED TO DAIMLER-CHRYSLER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND WAS EXTREMELY DISPLEASED AT THEIR COMPLETE FAILURE TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. REVIEWS OF VARIOUS INTERNET DISCUSSION GROUPS REVEALS THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT BUT A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH MANY SIMILAR (OR EVEN MUCH WORSE) REPORTS WITH DAIMLER-CHRYSLER AGAIN DENYING ALL RESPONSIBILITY. THE BRAKES ARE CLEARLY UNDERDESIGNED FOR THE APPLICATION AND POSE A POTENTIAL HAZARD DUE TO INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCES CAUSED BY THE WARPED ROTORS. AFTER-MARKET ROTORS APPARENTLY WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BUT THIS COST SHOULD BE INCURRED BY DAIMLER-CHRYSLER. *AK
ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, HEADLIGHTS/ WINDSHIELD WIPERS, WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK. AT TIMES HEADLIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLASH INTERMITTENTLY. *AK DEALER UNABLE TO REPAIR AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TT
