SHIFT INTERLOCK CABLE BECAME DISCONNECTED, ENABILING THE SHFIT LEVER TO BE MOVED FROM THE PARK POSITION WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM VEHICLE WITHOUT SELECTING PARK WITH THE SHIFT LEVER. *AK
DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FEEL AND WOULD NOT GO UP. 23208 MILES ON TRUCK AND THE DEALER REPLACED REGULATOR, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SERVICE ORDER. ONE YEAR LATER SAME THING HAPPEN TO THE OTHER SIDE WITH 32240 MILES ON THE TRUCK. OF COURSE THIS ONE IS OUT OF POCKET EXPENCE. THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURE OF THE TRUCK AND NOT THE CONSUMER. I HAVE ALSO HAD FRONT BRAKE ROTORS CHANGED BY THE DEALER TWICE UNTIL I PURCHASED AFTER MARKET PADS AND ROTORS TO FIX THE BRAKES MYSELF. NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES FOR TWO YEARS NOW.*AK

HABITUALLY WARPING BRAKE ROTORS. I HAVE NOW HAD THE ROTORS/PADS/CALIPERS REPLACED AT 8000 MILES AND, MOST RECENTLY, AT 35,000 MILES. ON WHAT OTHER CAR WOULD YOU EXPECT TO BE OUT OF POCKET THE COST OF REPLACING PADS AND ROTORS EVERY 8,000-17,000 MILES? I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER JEEP AND I ONLY HOPE THAT THIS SERVES AS A CAUTIONARY TALE TO POTENTIAL PURCHASERS. *NLM
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. AIR CONDITIONER REGULATOR AND FAN STOPPED WORKING. ALSO, CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW SWITCH REGULATOR.*AK
VEHICLE VIBRATED AND STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIED WHEN STOPPING. FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED WITH ABOUT 18,000 MILES. REPLACED AND STOPPED. AT 27,000 MILES IT'S BACK. *LA
WHEN STOPPED, WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, THE CAR WOULD JUMP FORWARD WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM LURCHING FORWARD WAS TO INCREASE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE LURCH WAS STILL FELT. I HAVE HEARD THIS TERMED A "BUMP STOP" BY OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN TO THEM.*AK
THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP ALMOST 10 TIMES FOR REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER ARGUED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS OUT OF ORDER AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED OTHER PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE DRIVE PINION, HEATING PADS, BRAKE ROTORS, CALIPERS, PADS, POWER STEERING PUMP, THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS AND REAR SWAY BAR LINKS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE PROBLEMS NO HELP WAS OFFERED. IT HAD APPEARED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE GRAND CHEROKEES BUILT ONLY FROM NOV 22- DEC 5 2000 FOR THE POWER STEERING AND THE CONSUMER MISSED IT BY A MONTH, BUT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. *AK *CB THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED THREE TIRE BLOWOUTS. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE GEAR BOX, THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FRONT PINION SEAL LEAKED. *JB
THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT HEATER STOPPED WORKING 6 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE. IT TOOK 7 MONTHS TO GET IT REPLACED. WRONG PARTS WERE ORDERED, THEN PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED, PHONE CALLS WERE NOT RETURNED OR IGNORED, AND I HAD TO BRING MY CAR IN NUMEROUS TIME, MISSING WORK FREQUENTLY. AFTER CHANGING DEALERSHIPS FOR MY WARRANTY WORK, I FINALLY GOT IT REPLACED. HOWEVER, I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER FAILING IN THE FUTURE. I WAS TOLD BY THE FIRST DEALER (I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THROUGH) THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE BOTH. HOWEVER, WHEN I WENT TO THE SECOND DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT "IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THE PASSENGER HEATER WOULD FAIL BECAUSE YOU DO NOT USE IT AS OFTEN". WELL, HERE IT IS 2 YEARS LATER AND MY PASSENGER HEATER IS NOW NOT WORKING...4000 MILES AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. QUITE CONVENIENT, I MIGHT ADD. THIS TIME IT TOOK TWO VISITS TO THE DEALER AND A UN-RETURNED PHONE CALL OVER 2 WEEKS TO EVEN FIND OUT A PRICE FOR ME. AND OF COURSE, THE DATE OF DELIVERY OF THE PART IS UNKNOWN. 2/3 WINTER SEASONS WITHOUT A SEAT HEATER IN MY CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE. *LA
ROTORS WARPED AT 12,000 MILES AND 22,000 MILES WITH THE DEALER TELLING ME I DRIVE THE CAR TOO HARD.*AK
THE LENSES ON THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS WERE CLOUDY. IT APPEARED TO HAVE DEVELOPED CONDENSATION WHICH MADE VISIBILITY VERY DIFFICULT WHEN DRIVING AFTER DARK. THE OWNER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO TOLD THE HIM IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLEM SHUTTERS VIOLENTLY. IT IS HARD TO CONTROL VEHICLE. *AK
FRONT DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT PROPERLY. NO TENSION ON THE BELT AND IT HANGS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 MODEL AND THIS SAFETY PRODUCT SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER THAN 2 YEARS. *AK
VEHICLE STEERING STARTED SHAKING UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. DEALER TOOK DOWN VIN AND COLOR OF CALIPERS. THEY SAID THAT CHRYSLER PUT ON DEFECTIVE CALIPERS THAT DON'T PROPERLY DISPLACE HEAT, WARPING THE ROTORS. HE FURTHER SAID REPLACEMENT OF CALIPERS AND ROTORS WAS NECESSARY BUT MANUFACTURE HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL AND WON'T PAY FOR IT. AFTER 15 YEARS IF BEING LOYAL JEEP OWNER, THIS WILL BE MY LAST. ROTORS WERE TURNED BUT ONLY LASTED SIX MONTHS. *JB
2001 GRAND CHEROKEE LTD DOES NOT HAVE HEAT AND A/C DOES NOT GET AS COLD AS MY OTHER CARS AND TRUCKS. DEALER INSPECTED AND TOLD ME THAT JEEP KNOWS OF PROBLEM DEFECT WITH MATERIALS AND DESIGN OF BLEND DOORS AND APPARATUS. DEALER WANTS $1900 TO CORRECT. LOCAL A/C SHOP DID POOR JOB FOR $1000. WOULD LIKE JEEP TO RE-IMBURSE. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, VEHICLE FEELS SLUGGISH, AS THOUGH IT IS STARTING FROM SECOND OR THIRD GEAR. WHEN STOPPING, A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE IS HEARD. ROUGH AND ERRATIC SHIFTING IS FELT AS THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS. WITH A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 27,000 MILES ON IT, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING NORMALLY (AT LEAST AS NORMAL AS ANY OTHER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS I HAVE HAD OVER THE YEARS). I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS POSTED THAT EXPRESS SIMILAR PROBLEMS, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN ANY RESOLUTION FROM JEEP OTHER THAN TELLING THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. THIS TROUBLES ME AND DOES NOT GIVE ME MUCH CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITY TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. I WANT A RECORD OF THE PROBLEM FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. *LA
ROTORS ON VEHICLE HAVE WARPED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME WAS AT ABOUT 20K MILES AT WHICH POINT THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. THE SECOND WAS AT ABOUT 40K MILES AT WHICH POINT THE DEALER PERFORMED A TSB AND REPLACED THE CALIPERS WITH A NEW DESIGN TO SUPPOSEDLY FIX THE PROBLEM AND TURNED THE ROTORS AND PUT NEW PADS ON. THE ROTORS ARE NOW WARPED AGAIN DESPITE HAVING THE NEW CALIPERS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH WARPED ROTORS FOR OVER 20K MILES NOW DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DEALER HAS NO CURE AND NEW ROTORS WILL JUST WARP AGAIN AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF DRIVING. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BANG AND SAW BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONSUMER BLINDLY PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FRONT END WAS CONSUMED BY THE FIRE, BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. *AK *SCC *JB
FIRST THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WENT OUT AND WOULD NOT ROLL UP, THEY REPLACED THE WINDOW RELAY, THEN NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DID THE SAME THING. AFTER MY DAD TOOK IT APART THE RELAY HE FOUND THAT WAS NOT THE MOTOR AT ALL BUT THE BOSCH GEAR & CABLE WERE DEFECTIVE, AND PROBABLY FROM THE BEGINNING BECAUSE THE VERY START OF THE CABLE WAS TOTALLY PINCHED AND CAUSED THE WHOLE CABLE TO GET BOND. *LA
FRONT AXLE BRAKE ROTORS WARPED PREMATURELY, HAD TO COVER COST OUT OF POCKET (NOT WARRANTY). ALSO OIL SEAL ON REAR AXLE FAILED, CAUSING REAR BRAKES TO BE FILLED WITH GREASE, ABOUT TO FAIL PREMATURELY (HAVE NOT FIXED YET, $400 JOB). VEHICLE ONLY HAS 47000 MILES. EXTENDED CHRYSLER WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER EITHER. *JB
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. NOW HAVE 30,000 MILES. THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AT APPROXIMATELY 10000, REPLACED AT 20000 (DEALER SAID NOT AN OFFICIAL RECALL, BUT THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS SO NO CHARGE), AND NOW AGAIN IN TO BE RESURFACED (THIS TIME AT A CHARGE OF $100). I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS CAR AND DRIVE CORRECTLY. I DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKES OR "SLAM" THEM AT ANY TIME. HOW CAN A CAR WITH 30K000MILES GO THROUGH SO MANY BRAKES? UNDER-ENGINEERING, I THINK!*AK

LIKE MANY OTHER JGC OWNERS, I ALSO HAD THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED AFTER 6000 MILES AND I NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AGAIN AFTER 17000 MILES. I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR JUST OVER TWO YEARS AND I CANT IMAGINE ANY STYLE OF DRIVING THAT WOULD REQUIRE A NEW SET OF BRAKES EVERY 10,000 MILES. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE TRUCK AS 17,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS IN EXECELLENT SHAPE, EXCEPT.....THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE BURNT OUT. IT IS MINE UNDERSTANDING FROM SPEAKING TO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS THAT JEEP INSTALLED ALUNINUM BRAKE ROTORS ON THERE TRUCKS. THE GRAND CHEROKEE WEIGHS ALMOST 4,000 POUNDS. THE WEIGHT IS TOO MUCH FOR THE ROTORS TO HANDLE. WHICH LEADS TO THEM BURNING OUT PREMATURELY. I SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP SOUTH SHORE AUTO WORLD OF MARMORA NJ. THE SERVICE DEPT ADVISED ME THAT JEEP ONLY CARRIES A 12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE BRAKES AND BRAKE COMPONENTS. THEY ALSO TRIED TO IMPLY THAT CITY DRIVING WILL BURN OUT THE ROTORS QUICKER THAN HIGHWAY DRIVING. I DONT BUY THIS EXCUSE AT ALL. THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE ROTORS. I MUST PAY FOR NEW ROTORS. HAVE YOU HAD ANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER JEEP OWNERS. IF SO WHAT ADVICE DID YOU SUPPLY THEM. I TRIED CALLING JEEPS CUSTOMER SERVICE UNIT BUT COULD NOT GET THROUGH. I E-MAILED THEM AND I AM WAITING FOR A REPLY. THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME ON THIS MATTER JAMES BRENNAN. *AK
WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD, THEN SUDDENLY IT WOULD LURCH FORWARD. ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED, IT WOULD IDLE, THEN SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD. TOOK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. THEY STATED THAT IT WAS A SOLENOID AND THAT THEY ARE SEEING THIS WITH GRAND CHEROKEES THAT HAVE OVER 50,000 MILES. VERY COSTLY REPAIR ON A CAR THAT IS 2 YEARS OLD!!! *NLM
THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE FRONT BRAKES PULSATING AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. *AK ALSO THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING, THE AIR CONDITION WAS NOT VERY COLD. *JB
JANUARY I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN AND IT LUNGED FORWARD. SHOCKED I SLAMMED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE HARDER AND IT LUNGED A SECOND TIME HITTING A CAR COMING DOWN THE SIDE STREET. THURSDAY WHEN I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES THE CAR SHOOK SO HARD I COULD BARELY KEEP MY HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM THE FIRST TIME, THEY WON'T DO IT THIS TIME. I HAVE HAD MY JEEP 2 YEARS AND THIS IS THE THIRD SET OF BRAKES. THEY TOLD ME TO EXPECT TO CHANGE BRAKES AND OR PADS EVERY 15,000 MILES? THERE FORE WRACKING ANOTHER BILL OF OVER $800. *AK
FRONT HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FILL WITH MOISTURE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE .SINCE THE PROBLEM HAS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE I FIRST NOTICED IT IN 2003, I FEEL COMPELLED TO REPORT IT. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP VENICE CHRYSLER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT BEGAN BUT HAVE OFFERED NO REMEDY. *TR
DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE AS I WAS TURNING INTO MY CAR PORT CAUSING VEHICLE TO STRIKE PORT POST. I ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR FAULTY SEAT BRACKET, TO NO AVAIL. *TR
ON 8/30/01 AT 7,968 AT MILES FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED. SAME CONDITION OCCURRED AND ON 8/9/02 AT 14,133 MILES, CALIPER KITS AND FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. AGAIN ON 7/16/03 AT 21,839 MILES FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND BRAKE PADS WERE CLEANED UP.*AK
WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL PULSATES, VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD AND VIBRATES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ROTOR ON FRONT WHEEL, WHICH PARTIALLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, PROGRESSED AND GOT WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE CONSUMER CONTACT A BRAKE SHOP. *LA BRAKE FAILURE AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH OR MORE. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPER, BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *LA
DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING AT 43,553 AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO CORRECT OBVIOUS DEFECT. I HAVE RELATIVES WITH SAME YEAR MODEL THAT HAD SAME PROBLEM AS WELL WHEN I SPOKE TO SERVICEMAN AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP HE TOLD ME THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM OFTEN.*AK

BRAKE ROTORS ON 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 2000 MILES, 12000 MI.LES, AND NOWV AGAIN AT 23000 MILES.*AK
I TOOK VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED OUT FOR EXTREME FRONT END VIBRATION WHILE BRAKING AND VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE BRAKES, AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS/CALIPERS AND PADS. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT CHRYSLER KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND THAT IT HAPPENED OFTEN ON THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS MAKE AND MODEL WAS NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER HAD ONLY PUT OUT SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM AND NOT ANY RECALL. I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS EXTREME FRONT END VIBRATION AND VIBRATION IN THE STEERING THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT CONSIDER IT TO BE ANY TYPE OF SAFETY ISSUE. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS CHRYSLER SHOULD BE BITING THE CORPORATE BULLET, AND FINALLY ISSUE THE RECALL TO THEIR CONSUMERS THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE OVER A YEAR AGO FOR THEIR OWN DESIGN FLAW. *AK
DEALER REPLACED ROTORS AND PADS LAST YEAR. AGAIN NEEDED TO REPLACE ROTORS. AND PADS. CONSUMER STATES THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS ISSUE. *AK *TS
OUR 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD WARPED ROTORS AT 12,000 MILES. THEY WERE REPLACED. NOW THE CAR IS AT 35,000 MILES AND THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I NOTICED THAT THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS BRAKE ROTORS UNTIL 12,000 MILES. GIVEN THE VOLUME OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS, IT SEEMS TO ME THERE IS EITHER A DEFECT IN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS OR A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN ITSELF. SINCE BRAKES ARE NECESSARY FOR SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION, I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO SEE ADDRESSED EITHER THROUGH A RECALL OR A PROVEN REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE. *NLM

I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS BRING CAUSED BY THE BRAKES AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS AND PADS. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT IT HAPPENS OFTEN ON THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS MAKE AND MODEL IS NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER HAS ONLY PUT OUT SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM AND NOT ANY RECALL. I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS EXTREME FRONT-END VIBRATION AND VIBRATION IN THE STEERING THAT CHRYSLER DOES NOT CONSIDER IT TO BE ANY TYPE OF SAFETY ISSUE. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS CHRYSLER SHOULD BE BITING THE CORPORATE BULLET AND FINALLY ISSUE THE RECALL TO THEIR CONSUMERS THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE OVER A YEAR AGO FOR THEIR OWN DESIGN FLAW.*AK
WE HAVE LESS THAN AVERAGE USE OF THIS JEEP. WE HAVE ALREADY HAD THE ROTORS CHANGED AT 9,000 MILES, AND NOW AGAIN AT 15,000 AFTER 2 YEARS AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. WE LIVE IN A SUBURBAN AREA AND DON'T USE CAR ON ROUGH ROADS OR MOUNTAINS. WE'VE HAD JEEPS BEFORE AND NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF HORRIBLE BREAKDOWN OF THIS PART. FROM ALL THE COMPLAINTS WE SEE AT THIS SITE ONE CAN EASILY ASSUME THAT THIS PART IS OF VERY SUBSTANDARD QUALITY ON THIS VEHICLE. IT WOULD MAKE US THINK TWICE ABOUT BUYING A JEEP AGAIN. *AK
AFTER 15000 MILES, THE ROTORS WERE SO WARPED AS TO MAKE BRAKING HAZARDOUS. CHRYSLER TURNED THE ROTORS. AT 25000 MILES, WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BRAKES AGAIN, AND WERE TOLD THEY WERE FINE. AT 36700 MILES, THE ROTORS ARE NOW WARPED AGAIN, AND I'M TOLD THAT WHILE CHRYLSER KNOWS THAT ITS A DEFECT, THEY WILL NOT COVER IT - AND THEY HAVE EVEN COME OUT WITH A FIX, THAT COSTS $450, WHICH THEY WON'T COVER. *JB
BRAKE ROTORS WERE DONE AT 12,000 MILES, AND AGAIN AT 31,000 PADS/ ROTORS TO THE FRONT AND REAR. *AK
THE 2001 JEEP, WHICH HAS 56,000 MILES HAS HAD THE FRONT ROTORS REPLACED THREE TIMES, AND THE CALIPERS ONCE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AGREED THAT THERE WA S SOMETHING WRONG, BUT THEY HINTED ABOUT OUR DRIVING HABITS. YOU KNOW THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU DRIVE A LOT IN THE MOUNTAINS. WE PURCHASED IT IN DENVER, CLOSE TO THE MOUNTAINS. HOWEVER WE LIVE ON THE EASTERN PLAINS, AND WE HAVE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING, BUT WE HAVE THE TOWING PACKAGE. THIS LAST TIME WE HAD THE FRONT ROTORS REPLACED, AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THE PADS WERE FINALLY WORE ON THE REAR. IT IS AMAZING THAT THE LIFE OF THE PADS IS THREE TIMES THAT ROTOR. I KNOW THAT BRAKES ARE WEARABLE ITEMS, BUT REPLACING THE ROTORS BEFORE THE PADS IS LIKE BUYING THREE SETS OF WHEELS BEFORE THE TIRES WEAR OUT. I CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER, AND I SIMPLY WANTED SOME ADVICE, BUT THE LADY HUNG UP ON ME. I CALLED BACK AND FINALLY GOT SOMEONE TO DOCUMENT SOME ITEMS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE PAID OVER $1,500 OUT OF OUR POCKET, AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID, WITHOUT HESITATION, THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. HE WOULDN'T DOCUMENT ANYTHING FOR US. ALL I WANT TO DO IS FIX THE PROBLEM SO IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. WHAT CAN OUR FAMILY DO? *AK
CONSUMER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED, AND HAD NO EXPLANATION. *AK *SCC *JB
I HAVE HAD TO REPAIR MY BRAKES DUE TO WARPED ROTORS 3 TIMES AND AM CURRENTLY IN NEED OF A 4TH BRAKE REPAIR DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 14,844 MILES WHEN IT WAS REPAIRED THE 1ST TIME. I INQUIRED AT THE TIME WHY I WOULD NEED A BRAKE REPAIR AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID, "YOU HAVE A 4WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AND THEY WEAR OUT THE BRAKES EASILY, THE BRAKES ARE NOT MADE HEAVY ENOUGH FOR THE EXTRA WEIGHT WHEN STOPPING." I REPLIED THAT THIS SOUNDED LIKE AN ERROR IN THE DESIGN AND I WOULD EXPECT FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP THE CHARGES. HE AGREED AND THE WARRANTY COVERED THE EXPENSE THE 1ST TIME, BUT WHEN THE 2ND AND 3RD TIME CAME AROUND THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE 2ND BRAKE JOB WAS NEEDED AT 30,219MILES. I TRIED A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOP FOR REPAIRS, BUT THE EXPENSE WAS OUT OF MY POCK THERE ALSO. I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 50.000 MILES, BUT THEY WOULD NOT PAY. THE 3RD BRAKE JOB WAS NEEDED AT 39,758 MILES FOR THE SAME REASON AND I PAID FOR THAT EXPENSE TOO. I AM NOW IN NEED OF A 4TH BRAKE REPAIR AT 65,403 MILES. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING I SHOULD ONLY NEED BRAKE SERVICE OF THIS KIND EVERY 30,000 MILES OR MORE. THE BRAKES PULSATE AND SHAKE WHEN I TRY TO STOP, CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO WOBBLE VERY HARD. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO SAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THEM FOR THIS 4TH TIME, BUT AM VERY UPSET AT HAVING TO PAY FOR AND DRIVE WITH AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW IN THE JEEP'S BRAKE SYSTEM.
RECALL GENERATION 3 SEAT BELTS. I HAVE ACTUALLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH MOST MANUFACTURER SEAT BELTS, INCLUDING AIRCRAFT BELTS (PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC). I SELECTED "20" IN THE FAILURES SLOT SO THIS WILL GET THROUGH. USING MY SKILLS AS AN AIRCRAFT TECH. I HAVE ALSO INSPECTED AUTO BELTS AND FOUND MOST OF THEM REGARDLESS OF MANUFACTURER TO BE '!@#$%. *NLM
MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS TO THE SHOP TWICE FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT. THE CAR SHIMMIES VERY BAD ABOVE 40 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. I ONLY HAVE 18,700 TOTAL MILES ON THE CAR. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 8500 MILES AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE REQUIRED PARTS ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER. THE SECOND TIME (SAME EXACT SHIMMY INDICATION), I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS HAD TO BE TURNED AND THAT IT WAS A HEAT PROBLEM AND NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. FURTHERMORE, THE PROBLEM WAS PERHAPS A DRIVER HABIT AND NOT ANY FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURE. I PAID THE BILL AND INFORMED THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THIS SITUATION AND WANTED HIM TO VERIFY THROUGH HIS DISTRICT MANAGER THAT THIS WAS APPROPRIATE ACTION AND NOT A WARRANTY ITEM. HE SAID THAT HE WOULD AND GET BACK WITH ME. *NLM
