PLEASE ACCEPT THIS EMAIL AS A REQUEST FOR HELP WITH A COMMON PROBLEM CONCERNING JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS AND PROBLEMS HAVING TO DO WITH ?BLEND DOORS? IN THE HVAC SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE, WHICH MY WIFE DRIVES, HEATS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BUT BLOWS COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT OCCURRED ALL AT ONCE. IT IS ALSO A REAL SAFETY HAZARD AS IT CREATES AN ICING HAZARD ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE COST OF REPAIR THROUGH A DEALERSHIP APPEARS TO RANGE FROM $900 TO $1500. I HAVE SENT AN EMAIL THROUGH THE JEEP.COM WEBSITE JUST BEFORE TYPING THIS TO YOU. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE APPARENT INACTION OF THE MANUFACTURER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IN A FAVORABLE MANNER IS RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. SINCE THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING IT MANY ARE SEEKING LESS EXPENSIVE REMEDIES AND SHORT-CUT FIXES, OR ATTEMPTING TO DO THE REPAIR ON THEIR OWN. I CAN SEE WHERE THIS COULD THEN FLOOD THE USED CAR MARKET WITH FAULTY AND SHODDY REPAIRS. I HAVE TO QUESTION WHETHER OR NOT IT IS COST EFFECTIVE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AFTER IT IS REPAIRED. THERE ARE EVEN NUMEROUS POSTS THAT INDICATE THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT FIXING THE CORRECT PROBLEMS WITH ADDED EXPENSE TO CUSTOMERS. AND STILL OTHERS THAT INDICATE THAT THE DEALERS DO NOT WANT TO SPEND THE TIME TO DO THE REPAIRS DUE TO THE DIFFICULTY AND TIME CONSUMED, AND THE VERY REAL POSSIBILITY THAT THIS REPAIR WILL SPARK OTHER PROBLEMS. THERE ARE SOME WHO NOTE THAT TAKING THE DASH OUT AND REINSTALLING IT CAUSES ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS WITH MALFUNCTIONING CONTROLS. AGAIN, IT?S A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM IN NORTHERN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. AND MANY PEOPLE IN THESE AREAS LOOK FOR 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES AS A SAFETY FACTOR FOR DRIVING IN JUST THOSE CONDITIONS WHEN HEAT IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO SEE CLEARLY. IT CERTAINLY RAISES THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THERE HAVE BEEN ACCIDENTS AND INJURY FROM THIS KIND OF ISSUE. I HAVE NOT YET DECIDED HOW TO EFFECTUATE THE REPAIRS TO MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. *TR
I AM IN THE EVER GROWING LIST OF HVAC BLEND DOOR MALFUNCTION. NOW I WILL BE THE ONLY ONE TRAVELING IN MY JEEP. AS I INVESTIGATE IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE SPENDING UP-TO $1200 FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR

DUAL SIDE HEATING AND AIR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. PASSENGER SIDE IS ICE COLD CONSTANTLY, WHILE MY DRIVER'S SIDE IS WORKING PROPERLY FOR NOW, BUT FOR HOW MUCH LONGER? AFTER A LOT OF READING OF OTHER ARTICLES, THERE SHOULD MOST ABSOLUTELY BE A RECALL, ESPECIALLY IF I HAVE TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY TO GET IT FIXED, THEN I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. *TR

MY BLEND DOOR IN MY V8 LIMITED IS BROKEN. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND MAKES DRIVING IN THE WINTER VERY COLD. ESTIMATE OF 876 TO FIX. *TR
DRIVING DOWN MAIN STREET AND IT WAS DRY ROAD CONDITIONS AND WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND PEDAL WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT TIME. HAD IN PAST PULSING PEDAL, BUT NO BRAKES AT ALL THIS TIME RESULTING IN A REAREND COLLISION WITH THE CAR THAT HAD STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
THE FAILURE IM HAVING IS WITH THE BLEND DOORS, FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE DRIVING IN COLD CLIMATES YOUR DEFROST BLOWS COLD AIR ONTO THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN COLD CLIMATES, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH THAT I DIDN'T WRECK OR HIT ANYBODY ELSE ON THE ROAD, IN MY HONEST OPINION THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, IF YOU THINK IT ISN'T A PROBLEM MR.CHRYSLER I WILL PERSONAL DRIVE TO CORPORATE H.Q. AND HAND YOU THE KEYS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF,BETTER YET WHY DON'T YOU PUT YOUR FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE AND GO FOR A RIDE,AND THEN YOU BE THE JUDGE IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ...MY GUESS IS YOU PROBABLY WILL. *TR
THE 1999-2004 GRAND CHEROKEE IS BUILT WITH BLEND DOORS TO CONTROL THE HEATER AND AC FUNCTION. THE DOORS ARE CONTROLLED BY A STEPPER MOTOR THAT SEEKS AN OPEN AND CLOSE SETTING EVERY 20 TIMES THE JEEP IS STARTED. THE END POINTS FOR OPEN OR CLOSED ARE SET BY A PLASTIC PIN THAT IS PART OF THE PLASTIC DOOR ASSEMBLY. WHEN THIS PIN BREAKS, THE STOP POINTS BECOME THE OPEN AND CLOSED POSITION OF THE DOOR. EVENTUALLY, THE DOORS WILL BREAK(SEE PICTURE). THE MOST COMMON FAIL MODE IS FOR THE BROKEN DOOR TO FALL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX, BLOCKING THE HEATER CORE NO HEAT. ALSO, IN THIS POSITION, THE DOOR DOES NOT DO AN EFFICIENT JOB OF BLOCKING THE HEAT INPUT, AND THE AC EFFICIENCY SUFFERS. THE DOOR CAN ALSO HANG IN A POSITION WHERE IT CLOSES NEITHER THE HEATER CORE NOR AC CONDENSER INLETS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, YOU HAVE A CONSTANT MIXTURE OF HEAT AND AC?TOO COLD IN THE WINTER AND TOO HOT IN THE SUMMER. - THE FACTORY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE DOORS AND HOUSING WITH AN UPGRADED PART THAT HAS A STRONGER PLASTIC PIN TO WITHSTAND THE CONSTANT OPENING AND CLOSING WHEN THE STEPPER SEEKS ITS BEGINNING POSITION. THE REPAIR ENTAILS REMOVING THE DASH PANEL, STEERING WHEEL, ALL VACUUM AND WIRING HARNESSES, DRAINING THE COOLANT, EVACUATING THE AC SYSTEM, AND FINALLY REMOVING AND REPAIRING THE HEATER BOX. QUOTES WILL RANGE FROM $1200 TO $2200 FOR THE REPAIR...IF YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE WILLING TO SPEND TWO DAYS DISASSEMBLING THE CAR. IT'S NOT DIFFICULT, JUST DETAILED, AND EVACUATING AND REFILLING THE AC REFRIGERANT REQUIRES EPA CERTIFICATION. DEALERS DON'T LIKE TO DO THIS BECAUSE IT TIES UP A TECHNICIAN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME AND THE CHANCES OF MISSING A WIRE OR MESSING UP THE RE-ASSEMBLY IS HIGH. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW! THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND NO LONGER USE THE SAME PARTS WHEN THEY FIX IT. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OUTRAGEOUS COST OF COVERING THEIR MISTAKE. *TR
I BOUGHT A GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IN 2001 AND THE SEAT HEATERS (DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS) WERE BOTH REPLACED IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS BECAUSE THEY BECAME INOPERABLE. IN 2007 THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT HEATER BECAME SO HOT IT BURNT OUT. IN 2008 THE PASSENGER SIDE DID THE SAME. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY JEEP SERVICE DEPT. THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. *TR

FIRST, WHEN I TRIED TO USE THE HEAT, ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD BLOW WARM AIR WHILE THE DRIVER SIDE WAS COLD. THAT LASTED ABOUT A MONTH, THEN NO WARM AIR AT ALL. THAT WAS THE WINTER OF 2007. THEN DURING THE SUMMER OF 2008, MY A/C STOPPED BLOWING ANY KIND OF AIR THROUGH THE VENTS NO MATTER WHAT SETTING I USED. THE SYSTEM WORKS AS FAR AS THE BLOWER MOTOR AND COOLING THE AIR GOES, IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE IT OUT OF THE VENTS WHAT SO EVER. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW REGARDING THE BLEND/RECIRCULATION DOORS IN THE HVAC SYSTEM. *TR
HVAC, A/C, DEFROST, HEAT NOT FUNCTIONING. BLEND DOORS, RECIRCULATION DOORS FAILURE AT 60,421 MI. DEALER REPAIRED AND THEN FAILED AGAIN AT 72,170 MI. POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD IN NORTHERN CLIMATES. WINDSHIELD CANNOT BE CLEARED OF SNOW & ICE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND COULD NOT BE TURNED. THE WHEEL FINALLY LOOSENED AFTER HE MOVED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES. HE ALSO HEARD A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,466 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO ACTIVATE THE HEATER IN COLD WEATHER, IT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. SHE ALSO CANNOT DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BLEND AIR DOOR CAUSED THE FAILURE, WHICH IS COMMON FOR THE GRAND CHEROKEE WHEN IT REACHES 50,000 MILES OR GREATER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 85,000.
NO HEAT ON DRIVERS SIDE. PASSENGER SIDE MARGINALLY BLOWS AIR. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE--ALL YEARS! JEEP MUST BE FULLY AWARE OF IT SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND THEY HAVE A "FIX", BUT AT A HIGH COST TO THE CONSUMER. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN. *TR
AIR CONDITIONER WILL NOT STOP WORKING ON PASSENGER SIDE. HEAT ONLY WORKS ON DRIVER SIDE. TWO MECHANICS HAVE SAID THE A/C BLEND DOOR IS NOT WORKING AND ESTIMATES HAVE RANGED FROM $500. TO $800. FOR REPAIRS. MY HUSBANDS 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BEGAN HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM A MONTH BEFORE MINE DID. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
THIS IS A SEVER PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE BLEND DOOR SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING AND IF THE WINDOW BEGINS TO FOG AND I TURN THE DEFROST ON IT SHOOTS OUT COLD AND MAKES THE FRONT WINDSHIELD FOG EVEN WORSE. *TR
FIRST THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD NOT BLOW HOT AIR, THEN THE DRIVERS SIDE STOPPED BLOWING HOT AIR. NOW DEFROST NO LONGER WORKS. FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. REPAIR REQUIRES AN EXCEPTIONAL AMOUNT OF MONEY ($1,000+) CONSIDERING THAT IT IS AN OBVIOUS ENGINEERING/MANUFACTURERS DEFECT IN THE STRENGTH OF THE BLEND AIR DOORS AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY. JEEP HAS A "NEWER" "BETTER" ASSEMBLY THAT CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. PART IS INEXPENSIVE - LABOR IS NOT SINCE IT REQUIRES REMOVING ENTIRE DASHBOARD. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE SINCE IT RENDERS THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER UNUSABLE. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE - IT'S WIDESPREAD AND COVERS MANY YEAR'S OF PRODUCTION OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES AND POSSIBLY OTHER JEEP PRODUCTS. UPON INVESTIGATION ON THE WEB - IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A PART THAT WILL FAIL ON ALL JEEPS AND NOT A QUESTION OF IF BUT WHEN. JUST LIKE THE BRAKE PROBLEM FOUND ON SIMILAR JEEPS (EVENTUALLY RECALLED) IT LOOKS LIKE JEEP IS PLAYING THE WAITING GAME - AND HOPING THAT MOST FAILURES OCCUR OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD (SUCH AS OURS 70K MILES). THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. THE ORIGINAL PARTS WERE NOT ENGINEERED PROPERLY. JEEP OBVIOUSLY KNOWS THIS OR THEY WOULDN'T HAVE CREATED A "FIX" FOR THE PROBLEM. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE PLASTIC FAN BLADE ASSEMBLY NEARLY SEPARATED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL AS WELL AS THE REPAIR PRICE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS THE 2000-2002 MODELS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED AT HER RESIDENCE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,300.

DRIVERS SIDE CAR SEAT BROKE OFF ITS BRACE SO NOW ITS BASICALLY NOT ATTACHED TO ANYTHING. 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE. *TR
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON. I HAVE READ MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS ON BOTH THE 2000 AND THE 2001 MODELS. WE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING IN THE DAYTIME, AND THEY WERE, BUT WE TURNED THE LIGHTS ON, AND THEY WOULD NOT. MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME THE OTHER NIGHT, AND HER FRIEND WAS BEHIND HER, AND WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES, HER FRIEND NO LONGER COULD SEE THE TAIL LIGHTS, AND BY THE TIME SHE REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED, SHE HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID SLAMMING INTO HER. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS, AS I PERSONALLY SAW OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME PROBLEM. *JB
INCIDENT: DEFOG & HEAT DOES NOT WORK; HAD TO DRIVE 25 MILES WITH WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON CONSTANTLY IN ORDER TO CLEAR WINDSHIELD, STILL DID NOT DO WELL EVEN WITH NEWER WIPERS... 1) I WOKE UP, STARTED UP JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN ORDER TO DEFOG WINDSHIELD SINCE IT GOT COOLER OVERNIGHT LEAVING FOG ON WINDSHIELD. 2) DEFOG WOULD NOT WORK, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD WARMED UP SUFFICIENTLY AND TEMP GAUGE INDICATED SUCH AS WELL. 3) HAD TO TAKE TO DEALER SINCE REGULAR MECHANIC COULD NOT PERFORM SERVICE; REPLACED ACTUATOR, BLEND DOOR AND OTHER PARTS. (UNK IF REPLACED PARTS ARE AVAILABLE SINCE DEALER PERFORMED SERVICE REPAIR. *JB
2001, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO, BLEND DOOR FAILURES OF HEATER SYSTEM. FAILURE RESULTED IN NO HEAT OR DEFROST SITUATION DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER FORCING DRIVER TO STOP ALONG MOTORWAY. VEHICLE INSPECTED AND DISCOVERED THE HEATER SYSTEM "BLEND DOORS" FAILED. NOT SURE WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED, HOWEVER THE DRIVER SIDE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE NOW NOT BEING DRIVEN DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. REPAIR QUOTES HAVE BEEN EXTENSIVE AND BEYOND FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE SERIOUS AND WIDESPREAD SAFETY ISSUE WITH JEEPS UTILIZING THIS HEATING SYSTEM AT THIS TIME VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER AS REPAIRS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO ABSORB AT THIS TIME. FAILURE TO DEFROST WINDSHIELD LEADS TO A SERIOUS DRIVABLE PROBLEM FROM FOGGING WINDOWS.*CN

MY ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL FAILED WHEN THE BLEND DOORS STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEPS IN GENERAL. THEY WOULD NEED TO REMOVE MY DASH AND REPLACE THE MOTORS FOR THE BLEND DOORS. 1500 DOLLARS LATER, I AM SEEING THAT I AM FAR FROM ALONE WITH THIS RIP OFF DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION. FROM 20000 MILES ON TO 90000 I HEARD A CREAKING AFTER I SHUT OFF MY CAR. NOW I KNOW WHAT THAT WAS: THE GRINDING OF THE BLEND MOTOR. *TR

FOR SEVERAL MONTHS I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DEFROST WINDOWS DUE TO THE COMMON BLEND DOOR PROBLEM WITH 99-04 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. I HAVE GONE TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS TO HAVE AN ESTIMATE AND HAVE BEEN QUOTE OVER 1000.00 ON ALL OCCASIONS. ALTHOUGH I AM WITHOUT HEAT THAT IS NOT MY CONCERN. IT IS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF NOT HAVING THE ABILITY TO DEFROST WINDOWS DURING EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR CUSTOMERS LIVING IN COLD AREAS ON THE US. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT JEEP IS AWARE OF AND HAPPENS ON WAY TOO MANY VEHICLES TO GO UNADDRESSED. JEEP SHOULD AT LEAST BE FORCED TO COVER SOME OF THE COST FOR THIS COSTLY DEFECT. I HAVE A 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE AND THE DRIVERS SEAT COMPLETELY BROKE AWAY FROM THE FRAME. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. I THINK THE SEAT IS MADE VERY POORLY AND IS VERY UNSAFE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LIFT THE WINDOW PORTION OF THE LIFT GATE, THE WINDOW SLAMMED DOWN ON THE CONTACT'S HEAD. SHE LIFTED UP THE WINDOW A SECOND TIME AND IT SLAMMED DOWN ON HER HEAD AGAIN. SHE NOTICED THAT THE TWO WINDOW HINGES WERE EXTREMELY LOOSE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND WOULD NOT WAIVE THE CONTACT'S DEDUCTIBLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 65,407.
AS I DROVE ON LOCAL ROADS, I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK LOWER AND LOWER WITH EACH STOP. THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME. I MADE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE MECHANIC FOUND TWO METAL BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION, RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. ALSO, HE NOTED THE METAL FUEL RAIL HAD RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION. ALL THREE ARE BEING REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE, WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW, IS NOT DRIVEN ON THE BEACH OR ALONG THE OCEAN SHORELINE. IT IS DRIVEN ONLY ON SURFACE STREETS AND HAS NEVER BEEN SUBMERGED IN A FLOOD. IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. IT IS WELL-MAINTAINED, WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES, AND REGULAR TUNE-UPS AND FILTER CHANGES. IT IS KEPT WASHED AND WAXED. I FIND IT UNNERVING THAT TWO CRUCIAL SYSTEMS SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN JUST 5 AND HALF YEARS, LEAVING THE VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO ACCIDENT OR FIRE. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS DUE TO A LACK OF CORROSION PROTECTION OR JUST AN INFERIOR METAL, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT IN 32 YEARS OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP, I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH SAFETY FAILURES. *TR
A COMPONENT KNOWN AS THE HEATER SYSTEM "BLEND DOORS" FAILED ON MY WIFE'S 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, PURCHASED USED IN APRIL, 2005. THIS FAILURE CAUSES A SITUATION WHERE NO HEATED AIR IS AVAILABLE TO DEFROST/DEMIST THE VEHICLE'S WINDOWS, THUS POTENTIALLY CAUSING LOSS OF VISIBILITY AND A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM IS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW IN THE GRAND CHEROKEES HEATER SYSTEM FROM 1999-ON. THIS IS SO COMMON ON THESE VEHICLES THAT THERE IS EVEN AN AFTERMARKET FIX KIT AVAILABLE (VS. THE $1,200 I WAS QUOTED BY OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM). THIS IS CLEARLY MUCH MORE THAN AN OCCUPANT COMFORT ISSUE AND, IN MY OPINION, SHOULD HAVE BEEN TREATED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THE DANGER TO THOSE BOTH IN THE VEHICLE AND OTHERWISE. WHAT WE DID NOT REALIZE IS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAD BEEN GRADUALLY HAPPENING VIRTUALLY SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY REACHED THE POINT WHERE THE SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILURES, FIRST ONE FAILED AT 35,000 MILES, THE SECOND AT 42,000 MILES, AND NOW THE THIRD AT 71,000 MILES. TOWING CHARGES, RENTAL CARS ETC. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD ONLY QUOTE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED-12,000MILES/OR 12 MONTHS. THIS TIME MY COST IS $724.00 FOR A NEW PUMP, $200.00 FOR RENTAL,AND $68.00 FOR TOWING. THREE FUEL PUMPS IN 71,000 MILES IS RIDICULOUS AND FRUSTRATING. NO MORE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS FOR ME. *JB
DEFROSTER IN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WILL NOT DEFROST PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW. THIS IS A KNOW DEFECT IN THIS MODEL JEEP AND OF COURSE NOT COVERED BY LIMITED WARRANTY. SO NOW MY WIFE CAN ONLY DRIVE THE CAR DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. *JB
THE REGULATOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FAILED AND THE WINDOW DROPPED. IT WOULD NOT STAY UP ON IT'S OWN. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC (NOT A CHRYSLER DEALER). WHO DISCOVERED IT WAS THE REGULATOR AND REPLACED IT FOR $275. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER ON SAT. 9/15/07. THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO THE PASSENGER WINDOW. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER FEELING THERE MUST BE A DEFECT FOR BOTH TO GO WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL AND THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE DRIVERS WINDOW AS I DID NOT GO TO A CHRYSLER DEALER. THEY TOLD ME, FOR THE PASSENGER WINDOW, TO GO TO A DEALER, GET A DIAGNOSTIC DONE (AT MY OWN EXPENSE). SUBMIT THAT TO THEM AND THEY WOULD MAKE A DETERMINATION IF THEY WOULD ASSIST IN MY REPAIRS. THEY ALSO SAID IF THEY DID DECIDE TO ASSIST, THERE WOULD BE A $100 DEDUCTIBLE. SO BY THE TIME I PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC, THE DEDUCTIBLE AND HAVE TO ARRANGE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALER TWICE, IF THEY DO DECIDE TO ASSIST ME. IT'S RIDICULOUS. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF POSTS ON LINE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME EXACT EXPERIENCE. ONE POOR MAN'S DOG JUMPED OUT THE WINDOW WHEN IT FELL AND WAS BADLY INJURED. I CAN'T BELIEVE CHRYSLER IS ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH THESE REGULATORS FOR YEARS. THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. *JB
1) EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE: I PUSHED A BUTTON TO ROLL UP THE WINDOW. 2) FAILURE: THE WINDOW 'POPPED' THEN FELL INTO THE DOOR. 3) WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE: I WENT TO A 5-STAR CERTIFIED JEEP DEALER AND WAS QUOTED $300 FOR REPAIRS BOTH TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS; ONCE SEPT. 2006 (DRIVER DOOR) AND THE OTHER JUST TWO DAYS AGO - AUG. 2007 (PASSENGER FRONT RIGHT DOOR). AFTER THOROUGH RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND DISCUSSION WITH THE DEALER, THIS IS A "COMMON PROBLEM WITH THAT VEHICLE." YET THE DEALER DOESN'T EVEN KEEP THE PART IN STOCK SO SHIPPING FEES ARE INCORPORATED. HAVING A WINDOW WHICH WILL NOT ROLL UP NOT ONLY PUTS PERSONAL PROPERTY AT RISK OF THEFT, BUT ALSO DAMAGE DUE TO RAIN, WIND, SNOW ETC. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED DURING A RAINSTORM ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *JB
THE WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE PART THAT BROKE WAS ON THE REGULATOR AND A CABLE CONNECTS TO IT. THE PART WAS MADE FROM PLASTIC AND WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT OF THE WINDOW AND IT BROKE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND ALWAYS TOOK GREAT CARE OF MY JEEP. THE DEALER WANTS $270 FOR A NEW ONE (NOT INCLUDING LABOR) AND THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING AS NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS DONE TO CAUSE THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC TO BREAK. *TR
DURING A HIGH SPEED REAR END COLLISION, BOTH THE DRIVER SEAT AND THE PASSENGER SEAT RECLINED COMPLETELY CAUSING SEVERE NECK INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS. *TR

WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED WITH A WARRANTY INSURANCE POLICY. THE SALES MANAGER ASSURED US THAT IF YOU PUSH A BUTTON OR TURN SOMETHING ON THEN THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER IT. THE FIRST TIME WE USED THE HEATER COLD AIR CAME OUT OF THE PASSENGER FLOOR DUCT. THE WARRANTY COVERS THE AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL, BUT THE DEALER CLAIMS THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COMPONENTS OF THE AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL SYSTEM. THERE IS NO SUCH COMPONENT AS AN AUTOMATIC TEMP CONTROL, BUT THEY DODGE THEY WARRANTY ANYWAY. I HAVE READ THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY $1100.00 TO REPAIR THIS BY THE TIME WINTER COMES OR ELSE I WILL HAVE NO DEFROSTER AND WILL NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALERS ARE QUITE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM BUT UNLESS SOMEONE FORCES A MANUFACTURERS RECALL THE DEALERS DO NOT RECEIVE COMPENSATION AND WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS. THIS IS A COLD WEATHER SAFETY HAZARD AND ENGINEERING DEFECT COSTING CONSUMERS UNFAIR AND COSTLY REPAIR BILLS AND TIME INCONVENIENCES. *JB
