DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME BROKEN, 3RD TIME. WELDED TWICE BEFORE TO REPAIR. *TR
HEAT STOPPED WORKING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. NOW THERE SEEMS TO BE LITTLE TO NO HEAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LINE, AND YET NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. OF COURSE THIS ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I HAVE YET TO PURSUE REPAIRS AS THIS WILL COST ME ALMOST $500. *TR
NO HEAT, POOR DEFROSTER PERFORMANCE. WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM IS THE HEATER BLEND DOOR HAS FAILED AND THE COST IS AROUND $`1,800.00 TO REPAIR. I STARTED LAST WINTER WITH NO HEAD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NOW THERE IS NO HEAT ON EITHER SIDE. DEFROSTERS NOT PROPERLY CLEARING WINDSHIELD. *TR

HEATING/AC NON-FUNCTIONING. BLOWS ONLY COLD AIR. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2002. STARTED @ 75,000 MI WITH ONLY COLD AIR ON PASSENGER SIDE, 1 YEAR LATER ONLY COLD AIR BOTH SIDES. JEEP DEALER WANTS $1200 TO REPLACE A "BLEND DOOR" BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH SAME PROBLEM. *TR

HEATER/AC BLEND DOORS HAVE DETACHED FROM THE SHAFT ATTACHED TO THE ELECTRIC MOTOR. THE DOORS CIRCULATE CONDITIONED AIR TO THE CAB AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFROSTING THE WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD NO LONGER DEFROSTS CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. *TR
HELLO AND THANKS FOR LISTENING, I PURCHASED A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 47,000 MILES ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO AND AT AROUND 55,000 MILES THE PASSENGER HEAT AND DEFROST QUIT WORKING WHILE THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTINUED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THAT WAS SO UNTIL I WENT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND THAT THE PASSENGER "BLEND AIR DOOR" WAS SHOWING "TOO LARGE OF TRAVEL" BY THE DEALERSHIP COMPUTER. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THE DOOR THAT AIDS IN DIRECTING THE HEAT TO THE DESIGNATED VENTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS BROKEN. ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE WAS GIVEN TO BE $737 AND THAT WAS IF I SCHEDULED REPAIR WITHIN ONE MONTH. TWO WEEKS LATER THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAT AND DEFROST QUIT WORKING ALONG WITH THE RECIRCULATION VENT THAT INHIBITS OUTSIDE AIR IN THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT PRESENT TIME DUE TO THE INABILITY TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS. AFTER TRYING TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM I FIND THIS TO BE A PROBLEM DUE TO POOR DESIGN IN THE GRAND CHEROKEE IN THE YEARS 1999-2004. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING FAILURE OF THESE PARTS WAS SO COMMON THAT MANY MODELS WERE REPAIRED WITH THE SAME FACTORY PARTS AND FAILED AFTER BEING REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIPS. THEN IN 2007 THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION ACKNOWLEDGED ONLY TO THE DEALERSHIPS THAT THESE PARTS WERE BEING REPLACED WITH NEWER DESIGNS DUE TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGNS WERE INSUFFICIENT FOR THIS TYPE VENTILATION SYSTEM. IN OTHER WORDS THE ENGINEERING OF THE SYSTEM WAS SURE TO BE A PROBLEM FOR OWNERS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE CHRYSLER/JEEP RECALL THESE SYSTEMS AND REPAIR WITH THE UPGRADED PARTS BEFORE SOMEONE KILLS INNOCENT PEOPLE DUE TO ACCIDENTS RELATED TO FOGGY WINDSHIELDS. WHILE DRIVING, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SLID DOWN IN ITS TRACK. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND PULL THE WINDOW UP BY HAND. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY JEEP'S FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW ON 12/22/05, EXCEPT THAT OCCURRED AT NIGHT AND IT WAS 15 DEGREES OUTSIDE (LIVED IN NY AT THE TIME)-HAD TO DRIVE HALF AN HOUR HOME WITH THE WINDOW WIDE OPEN. *TR
THE SEAT HEATER IN MY '02 JEEP GRAND CHERKOO OVERLAND STOPPED WORKING. I PEELED BACK THE LEATHER COVERING TO DISCOVER A WIRE CONNECTING 2 HEATING ELEMENTS HAD SHORTED OUT WHERE IT IS PINCHED BY A SPRING TENSION ROD AND SIGNIFICANTLY BURNT THE SEAT CUSHION AND MELTED PART OF THE LEATHER. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE 3 WINDOW REGULATORS REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE ONE LEFT, WHO KNOWS WHEN THAT WILL GO, PERHAPS NEXT YEAR, BECAUSE IT SEEMS ONE BREAKS PER YEAR. I HAVE HAD EACH OF THESE REPLACED AT A CHRYSLER DEALER. CHRYSLER IS QUITE AWARE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH IT'S VEHICLES, BUT IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BECAUSE IT IS NOT A "SAFETY ISSUE". THIS PART WITH LABOR IS $460 EACH TIME IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CHRYSLER IS WILLING TO KEEP DRAINING THE POCKETS OF ITS CONSUMERS WITH NO CARE TO ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. THERE ARE 5 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON AUTOMOTIVE.COM WITH THE SAME ISSUES. I WANT TO FILE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT. CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY BACK. I THINK THIS CAR IS A LEMON!!!! DRIVER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOW FAILED FOR NO REASON, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THE WINDOW ALL OF THE SUDDEN FELL ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY. THIS WAS DONE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. SO FAR, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPLACE THE PART. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE WINDOW REGULATOR, AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN MANY JEEPS. *TR
VISIBILITY: DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM:WINDSHIELD:BLOWER. *TR
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND WITH 44,500 MILES. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WERE (1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHIELD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHIELD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFOG, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. IN ADDITION TO THE FOGGING THERE IS A LEAK OF ANTIFREEZE, HAZARDOUS MATERIAL, COMING INTO THE VEHICLE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AREAS, DUE TO DEFECTIVE HEATER CORE. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AND A NEW HEATER CORE AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,700 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITEDS/OVERLANDS WITH DUAL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS. *TR
2002 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A SAFETY RECALL F25-ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN WHICH HAD CAUSED THE JEEP TO OVERHEAT. DEALER IS STATING THAT THE FAN LOCKED UP CAUSING THE RADIATOR TO OVERHEAT. FURTHERMORE, STATING THAT THE ENGINE IS INOPERABLE WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RECALL. DEALER ESTIMATED $8,000 CHARGE TO FIX ENGINE, BUT WILL ONLY COVER THE FAN BLADE UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED PLASTIC PIECES ON THE GROUND AND WATER LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE FAN. THE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN), ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. WHEN HEAT IS ON, COLD AIR BLOWS FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. I BELIEVE THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEND DOOR IS BROKEN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FACTORY/DESIGN PROBLEM AND IT AFFECTS THE DEFOGGER AND VISIBILITY. ESTIMATES OVER $1,000 TO REPAIR. *TR

THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR THIRTY MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 105,411. UPDATED 02/14/08. *LJ
TODAY WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND, THE HEATER STOPPED SENDING WARM AIR TO THE DRIVERSIDE DEFROSTER AND HEAT OUTLETS (HAS DUAL ZONE CONTROLS). I SUSPECTED IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE "FLOW DOORS" WHICH CONTROL THE AMOUNT OF WARM AIR TO ENTER THE PASSENGER CABIN. UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THIS IS AN IDENTIFIED DEFECT AFFECTING MANY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS. THE PROBLEM IS APPARENTLY NOT CORRECTABLE WITHOUT REPLACING THE "FLOW DOORS" AND DOOR ACTUATORS. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAVE RECEIVED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE. ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $1100 PLUS. MY OPINION IS THAT SINCE IT IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT, IT SHOULD BE COVERED THROUGH A RECALL AND AT NO EXPENSE TO THE OWNER. ALSO THE FIX PROVIDED BY CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IS KNOWN TO FAIL PREMATURELY AFTER SHORT PERIOD OF OPERATION. *TR
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL, AND POWER WINDOW CONTROL FAILED TO RAISE THE WINDOW. IT IS NOW STUCK IN THE HALF-OPEN POSITION, PENDING REPAIR. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG JEEP OWNERS, AND THAT THE REPAIR IS APPROX. $400 FOR EACH INCIDENT. GIVEN THE HUNDREDS OF OWNER REPORTS I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, CHRYSLER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO BOTH IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE PART(S) AND REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE HEATER BLOWER BLOWS VERY COLD AIR ON PASSENGER SIDE. VERY POOR DEFROSTING ON WINDSHIELD EVEN WITH THE TEMPERATURE SETTING ON MAX. *TR
WE HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND SINCE THE FIRST MONTH THAT WE PURCHASED IT NWE WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW REGULATORS BREAKING. WE HAVE NOW HAD FOUR TO BREAK IN THE FIVE YEARS THAT WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST ONE THAT BROKE WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE OTHER THREE HAVE TAKEN PLACE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST OF THIS YEAR. THE FIRST WINDOW REGULATOR THAT WE HAD TO HAVE REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP COST $422. WE HAVE NOT HAD THE OTHER TWO WINDOWS FIXED YET, BECAUSE WE ARE HOPING THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER WILL HELP US OUT WITH THIS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THE MALFUNCTION DUE TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING. I FEEL THIS IS AN EVENTUAL SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN THE CABLE SNAPS IT SOUNDS LIKE A SHOT GUN FIRING, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO REACT TO THE NOISE. MORE THAN ANYTHING, I FIND IT TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CONSUMER NATION WIDE ARE HAVING TO PAY FOR. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS ON CAR FORUM WEBSITES ON THE INTERNET. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED AND ALWAYS HEARD NOISES FROM THE VENT SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP, GOT IT CHECKED OUT WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY DID SOMETHING TO THE ACTUATOR. A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO I HAD COOLANT LEAKING INTO MY CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, HAD TO GET A NEW HEATER CORE ($800) THEN WHEN THEY FINISHED NO HEAT WAS COMING OUT, IT WAS THE BLEND DOOR SO THEY HAD TO REDO ALL THE WORK IN GETTING IN THERE ($350 AFTER I COMPLAINED), 3 MONTHS AGO, SAME PROBLEM HEATER CORE LEAK ($920), NOW 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT I HAVE NO HEAT, TOOK IT IN LAST WEEK, BLEND DOOR PROBLEM AND $730. I HAVE NO HEAT IN MY JEEP!! I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND I HAVE HAD IT TWICE! SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE DRIVERS SEAT HEATING UNIT WAS REPAIRED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. ON ONE OCCASION THE SEATS BECAME INCREDIBLY HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $700.00 TO REPLACE THE SEAT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO RECALL # 09V117000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER). SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,095. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
BLEND DOOR FAILURE IN THE HVAC SYSTEM OF MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. FAILURE CAUSES HVAC SYSTEM TO BLOW COLD AIR ONLY. THIS COULD BE CATASTROPHIC AS I LIVE IN COLORADO AND NEED HEAT IN THE WINTER FOR VISIBILITY OUT THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
WINDOWS FOG UP SO BAD I CAN'T SEE ON RIGHT SIDE OF CAR. COLD AIR BLOWS OUT ON PASSENGER SIDE EVEN AS THE TEMP CONTROL IS SET ON HI POSITION. RAN DIAG. ON HVAC AND ERROR CODE 52 = AI (RECIRC) DOOR TRAVEL RANGE TOO LARGE & 56 = RIGHT TEMPERATURE DOOR TRAVEL TOO LARGE. *TR
FIRST THERE WAS THE RECALL ON THE ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN, AND NOW CONSEQUENTLY THE HEATER, OR BLOWER DOESN'T PRODUCE HOT AIR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM DID NOT WORK. SHE CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY INSTRUCTED HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED TO THE DEALER, SHE NOTICED FREON RISING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AS A RESULT, OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM BEGAN TO FAIL. THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER NO LONGER WORKED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOT ONLY HAD HER BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTER FAILED, BUT THE HEATER CORE, EVAPORATOR CORE, ACTUATOR, AND BLEND DOOR (WHICH NO LONGER PROVIDED HEAT ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE) WERE CORRODED AS WELL. THE DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THE FREON FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ORIGINATED FROM THE EVAPORATOR CORE, INDICATING THE PRESENCE OF ETHANOL (TOXIC GAS). THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE. CURRENTLY, THE ESTIMATED COST THAT THE CONTACT HAS SPENT ON REPAIRS IS $2,000. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,350.

CLIMATE CONTROL BLEND DOOR FAILURE - FOGGED UP FRONT WINDOW AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I CAN'T BELIEVE AFTER READING ON THE INTERNET AND READING THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE! I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEELLIMITED WITH DUAL HEAT ZONE. I RECENTLY LOST HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. NOW YOU ASK HOW IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE? WELL WHEN YOU HAVE IT ON DEFROST YOU HAVE HEAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND ICE COLD AIR BLOWING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. (REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU HAVE THE DEFROSTER ON THE A/C PUMP CIRCULATES WHICH CAUSES VERY COLD AIR TO BLOW) NOW ONLY PART OF YOUR WINDSHIELD IS CLEARING UP. I LIVE IN CENTRAL PA WHERE THE WEATHER IS ALWAYS CHANGING. ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL AND SPRING. THIS TEMPERATURE CHANGE CAN CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP RATHER QUICKLY ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S DAMP AND THERE ARE WARM BODIES IN THE CAR. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN YOUR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANY TIME. I WORK FOR NAPA AUTO PARTS AND TRAVEL IN 3 STATES. I'M A FORMER VEHICLE TECHNICIAN AND KNOW A LOT OF REPAIR SHOPS. I WAS BLOWN AWAY AT HOW MANY OF THESES REPAIR SHOP KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND SAID THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON. THEY ALSO STATED THAT IT IS VERY TIME CONSUMING AND VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR. MOST DEALERSHIP STOCK THE PARTS TO REPAIR THIS. THIS ALONE SHOULD THROW UP A RED FLAG! THE BLEND DOORS WERE DESIGNED VERY CHEAPLY AND WE THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. ANYONE CAN SEE THE HAZARD HERE THE QUESTION IS, WILL SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING BEFORE THERE IS A DEATH? ( THERE MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN SOME, BUT NOBODY WILL EVER KNOW IF THE PERSON IS DEAD!). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DUAL HEAT SYSTEM FAILED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE HEAT TO CIRCULATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE DUAL HEATING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
FAILURE OF HEATER TO DELIVER WARMED AIR TO THE PASSENGER SIDE (THIS MODEL HAS A DUAL HEAT CONTROL). IN INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THIS IS A VERY FREQUENT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL, OFTEN OCCURRING AT 50-70000 MILES,FILLING MANY CHAT ROOM THREADS, AND EVEN LEADING TO AN INDEPENDENTLY MANUFACTURED FIX. (THE "HEATER TREATER"--EASILY FOUND BY GOOGLE OR EBAY). THE PROBLEM APPARENTLY IS DUE TO CHEAP PLASTIC BLEND DOOR MECHANISMS WHICH OFTEN BREAK AND REQUIRE TOTAL DASHBOARD REMOVAL TO FIX (~$1100-1500). THE HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE JEEP IS BLOWING COLD AIR IN WINTER, EVEN WHEN IT IS SET TO MAXIMUM HEAT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE BLEND DOOR AND THEY WANT OVER $700 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. MY QUESTION IS IF THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH IT FROM DESIGN HOW COME THEY DON'T FIX IT FOR FREE AND WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR IT WHEN THEY KNEW THEY SOLD ME A BAD DESIGN. ALSO NOW THE AC IS BLOWING HOT AIR AND THEY ARE TELLING ME IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE BLEND DOORS. I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 84,400 MILES. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WERE (1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHIELD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHIELD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFOG, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITEDS WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS. *TR

THEY SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE JEEPS AND THAT COST TO REPAIR IT WOULD BE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $1200. APPARENTLY THE ENTIRE DASH NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND THIS TAKES 6HRS OF LABOR TO ACCOMPLISH. *TR

THE HVAC BLEND DOORS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (WJ) OVERLAND FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 88, 000 MILES CAUSING A LOSS OF HEAT AND DEFROST ABILITIES. DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE IT WILL REQUIRE A TRAINED MECHANIC A QUOTED SEVEN HOURS OF LABOR TO REPLACE A PLASTIC PART WHICH HAS FAILED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, THE LOSS OF DEFROST ABILITY, THAT JEEP MANUFACTURES HAVE BEEN AWARE OF AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED SO THAT THESE JEEPS, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE MAY BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO THE CURRENT JEEP OWNER. *TR
THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN WORKING LESS AND LESS EFFICIENTLY. NOW NEITHER WILL WORK AT ALL, CAUSING MY FAMILY TO TRAVEL UNLESS THE WEATHER IS JUST RIGHT. NOTHING THE REPAIRS COST $1400. *TR
