I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (P41/NHTSA 14V-438) FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT 6 TO 8 MONTHS AGO. MY DEALER SAYS STILL WAITING ON PARTS. I HAVE FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS AND REMOVED KEYS FROM JEEP KEY. DASH LIGHTS HAVE STARTED BLINKING ON AND OFF, THIS GIVE ME NO INFORMATION WHEN OFF (SPEED, ETC.). I CAN HOLD KEY AND LIGHTS WILL STAY ON. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME JUST SOME TIME. ISN'T 8 MONTHS A LONG TIME TO WAIT TO GET THIS REPAIR BECAUSE THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, AND BRAKING LEADING TO A CRASH.. *TR

DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN GRADE, AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, ALL POWER SHUT OFF INCLUDING ALL DASH LIGHTS, SPEEDOMETER, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. OVER THE NEXT 20 MILES ALL OF THESE SYSTEMS FLASHED ON AND OFF ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES OR MORE. THIS ERRATIC ELECTRIC BEHAVIOR CONTINUED ON A DAILY BASIS UNTIL I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP . THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY JIGGLED THE IGNITION SWITCH. I DO NOT USE A KEYCHAIN, ONLY THE KEY, SO I ASSUME THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED WHEN I DROVE OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. FOR $1,300, THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL. WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES HESITATED WHEN DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL WENT MUSHY, I HAD NO BRAKING CONTROL AND THE ABS STARTED CYCLING LIKE I WAS ON A PATCH OF ICE. THIS LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS. THE ESP, ABS, CHECK ENGINE, AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER THE DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATED THE BRAKES WORKED BUT ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL DID NOT. I PERIODICALLY HAVE INSTANCES WHERE THE BRAKES CYCLE ON VARIOUS WHEELS, I ASSUME THIS IS THE ABS CYCLING THE BRAKES. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME RANGING FROM HOURS TO A COUPLE DAYS, THE AFFECTED INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS GO OUT AND THE WHOLE PROCESS STARTS OVER AGAIN WITHIN A FEW SECONDS TO MINUTES. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT THREW OFF TO MANY ERROR CODES TO TROUBLESHOOT. THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODES AND ASKED ME TO RETURN WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I JUST RETURNED THE CAR THE SECOND TIME. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE N23 WHICH SAID THAT I NEEDED TO CALL MY LOCAL JEEP CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE A CRASH. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CALL AT LEAST A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK SINCE I HAVE RECEIVED THIS NOTICE ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I AM ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE PART. NOTHING CAN BE DONE UNTIL THEY GET THE PART. SINCE THEN, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO GET WORSE. LAST NIGHT, I ALMOST CRASHED AS I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING BECAUSE THE JEEP SEEMED TO LOST CONTROL AND DIED MOMENTARILY AS THE LIGHTS ON MY CONTROL PANEL WERE FLASHING. I WAS TOLD IT WAS ALL DUE TO THE KEY SWITCH BUT I HAVE NOW NOTICED THAT AS THE LIGHTS ARE ALL BLINDINGLY FLASHING THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR NEAR THE FRONT. I AM NOT A MECHANIC SO I HAVE NO IDEA AND I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO TAKE MY JEEP IN AND HAVE THEM "TRY" TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON AND THEN CHARGE ME FOR POSSIBLY FIGURING IT OUT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST SEVEN MONTHS FOR PARTS THAT THE NOTICE SAYS "PLEASE HURRY!!! CALL THE EXPRESS SERVICE HOTLINE 1-866-849-3608 RIGHT NOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR FREE REPAIR". IS IT BECAUSE IT IS FREE REPAIR THAT THERE IS NO HURRY TO GET THIS FIXED? I HAVE A CHILD! I ALMOST WRECKED. DRIVING ALONG AT NIGHT, WHEN SUDDENLY MY HEAD LIGHTS BLINK OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES THEN SHUT OFF. HAVE TO THEN TURN ON AND OFF SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THEM BACK . THEN FEW MINUTES LATER THEY DO IT AGAIN, ALONG WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT. I THINK ITS THE COMPUTOR ON BOARD THATS DEFECTED, AND JEEP DOESNT WANT TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM! I THINK THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED A.S.A.P.. IT IS SO UNSAFE, AND APPEARS THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS OUT THERE WITH SAME PROBLEM.

MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT FROM WHERE SHE WORKS AND HIT A SMALL BUMP.HER JEEP LOST POWER DUE TO THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH.SHE LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES.SHE ALMOST GOT HIT BY TWO CARS.ANOTHER TIME HER HUSBAND ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH HIS KNEE AND THE JEEP DID THE SAME THING. *TR
SINCE I GOT THE RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER AND I IMMEDIATELY CALL THEM TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BUT BEFORE I WENT THEY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART FOR THE CAR. THEY TOLD ME TO WAIT UNTIL THEY GOT THE PART. SO I WAITED. TODAY (NOVEMBER 20) MY CAR DIDN'T START WHEN I TRIED TO START IT AND THE CAR MADE A CLICKING SOUND. SO I GAVE UP AND WHEN I TURN IT ALL OFF AND TOOK THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH, THE CAR STILL MADE THE BEEPING SOUND LIKE IF THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE SWITCH. I WAS NOTIFIED NOV 2014 THAT MY IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. I RECEIVED 3 SUBSEQUENT NOTICES BUT COULD NOT GET THE DEALERSHIP TO RESPOND TO MY REQUESTS FOR SERVICE. FINALLY IN FEB 2016 THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THEY HAD THE PARTS AND WOULD DO THE WORK. ORIGINALLY WE HAD 3 WORKING IGNITION KEYS. AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETE WE ONLY HAD 1 USABLE KEY. WHEN WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE OTHER 2 KEYS THEY CHARGED $109.95 TO PROGRAM A "MANUAL KEY" . I WAS STUCK WITH THE BILL AND A SECOND ELECTRONIC KEY THAT STILL DOESN'T WORK. THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ELECTRONIC KEY (ONE WITH PANIC BUTTON, DOOR OPEN/ LOCK AND TRUNK LOCK). THIS REPLACEMENT WOULD RUN BETWEEN $200 - $400.

THIS WAS IN DEALING WITH A SAFETY P41 RECALL OF IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS 11/2014. MY JEEP'S IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. I WAS WITHOUT A CAR FOR A WEEK BEFORE I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO FIX. THEY FIXED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND I PAID OUT OF POCKET. THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL LOW RANGE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPROGRAMMED THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM DISPLAYED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER LEARNED A REVISED SOFTWARE PROGRAM WAS WRITTEN FOR THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE, BECAUSE THE PROGRAM MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. *JB
