JEEP STALLS WHILE DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!! 2ND INCIDENT IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLES BEGAN TO CRACK FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE METAL DOOR PART WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE PLASTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO AUTHORIZED DEALERS WHO TOOK PICTURES OF THE FAILURE BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE A REASON FOR THE FAILURE. ONE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY VANDALISM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DOOR HANDLES WERE PROGRESSIVELY WORSE THAN THE REAR HANDLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,225. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, ALL INDICATORS FLASHED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH SHOWED THAT A CLOCK SPRING IN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIR THOUGH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000.
HAD COMPLAINED TO DEALERSHIP THAT ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL ALL COME ON AND GO OFF AT THE SAME TIME, AND WILL HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. THEY TOLD ME TO TRY WIGGLING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ON SAID DATE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING, BUT THIS TIME MY ABS ENGAGED, WHICH STOPPED ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY, I WAS PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN ANYWAY. HOWEVER, HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE, I WOULD BE DEVASTATED TO KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. ALSO, IT SOUNDED AS IF MY STARTER WAS TRYING TO START AGAIN. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND MAY PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WHO HAVE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT THINGS TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IT SEEMS AS IF NO ONE HAS BEE ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE EVEN UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HOW SHOULD SOMEONE PROCEED WITH AN ISSUE LIKE THIS? IT SEEMS AS IF THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STEP IN AND MAKE CHRYSLER DO A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT SO MANY OF US ARE HAVING.
THE PLASTIC AROUND MY INTERIOR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE CRACKED AND SHATTERED IN MULTIPLE PLACES CAUSING THE DOOR HANDLE TO BE HELD ON JUST BY THE CABLE IT IS ATTACHED TO. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS LEAK, POTENTIALLY INTRODUCING EXHAUST GASES, INCLUDING CARBON MONOXIDE, INTO THE PASSENGER AREA. I INITIALLY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO LITHIA DODGE IN SANTA FE, NM TO REPORT AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AND WAS TO BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ONLY REPAIRED THE PASSENGER SIDE WITHOUT APPARENTLY PERFORMING A LEAK CHECK. THE FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE OEM GASKET WITH ONE THAT INCORPORATES METAL TO APPARENTLY COMPENSATE FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE DISSIMILAR METALS OF THE HEAD/EXHAUST MANIFOLD. SINCE THERE IS A DEFECT, THE GASKETS LEAK, AND THE UNEVEN EXPANSION CAUSES THE BOLTS/STUDS TO BREAK, EXACERBATING THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE REPAIR THE SOUND SEEMED SIMILAR BUT I ASSUMED IT MUST BE INJECTOR OR VALVE/LIFTER NOISE. RECENTLY I HAD MY TRANSMISSION SERVICED BY A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY NOTED THAT I HAD AN EXHAUST LEAK. AGAIN I LISTENED AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM PASSENGER SIDE. THIS TIME WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE MECHANIC PERFORMED AN INSPECTION AND FOUND THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO BE LEAKING. AGAIN HE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE OEM GASKET WITH THE UPGRADED GASKET, BUT IN THE PROCESS BROKE A STUD OFF IN THE HEAD AND WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR WITHOUT EXCESS EXPENSE, NOW NOT UNDER WARRANTY, OF COURSE. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE OTHER SIDE WAS LEAKING AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR IT, BUT THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT LEAKING. IT'S OBVIOUS THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THERE IS A DEFECT, SINCE THEY ISSUED AN UPGRADED GASKET. THESE VEHICLES WITH THE 4.7L V8 SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE PROPER GASKET INSTALLED. I HAVE READ ON VARIOUS FORUMS ONLINE THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE 4.7L V8 IN CHRYSLER PRODUCTS. WHEN DRIVING THE LIGHTS AROUND THE GEAR INDICATORS WILL CIRCLE ALL THE GEARS AND VEHICLE DROPS INTO WHAT FEELS LIKE NEUTRAL AND LOSES POWER. THEN IT WILL RANDOMLY DROP BACK INTO DRIVE. HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CODE GIVEN WAS LOOSE GROUND WIRE IN TRANNY. DEALER FIXED. 1 WEEK LATER HAPPENED AGAIN AND CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. DEALER GOT SAME GROUND WIRE CODE, TOOK APART AGAIN AND WIRE WAS FINE. RESET LIGHT. STILL HAVING SAME PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING AND HAS HAPPENED WHEN JUST ENGAGING TO LEAVE OUT OF PARKING LOT THEN 3 TIMES ON HWY AT 55 MPH. VERY SCARY AS DON'T KNOW IF GOING TO GO BACK INTO GEAR OR POWER LOSS WILL CAUSE SOMEONE TO REAR END YOU AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED. CAN'T ALWAYS FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER AND RE-ENGAGE GEARS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN TODAY TAKING IT BACK IN FOR REVIEW. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN AN INVESTIGATION OR A RECALL? DOES THERE HAVE TO BE A FATAL ACCIDENT TO GET ATTENTION TO THIS DANGEROUS MATTER? I LOVE MY JEEP BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DIE FOR IT!
I BOUGHT A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 LIMITED EDITION. I BOUGHT 4 NEW TIRES THE DAY OF THE PURCHASE. THE TPMS-TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM BEGAN FAILING A SHORT TIME THEREAFTER. THE LIGHT IN THE DASHBOARD FLASHED TELLING ME MY TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW ON VARIOUS TIRES. MY WIFE WAS THE SOLE DRIVER OF THE JEEP AND SHE WAS CONSTANTLY CALLING TELLING ME A TIRE WAS FLAT. SHE WORKED EVENING HOURS. I TOOK THE JEEP INTO LES SCHWAB FOR REPAIR. THEY ADVISED ME THE PRICE FOR THE SENSORS WAS MORE THAN THE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS CONSTANTLY PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRES AND HAD TO RESET THE VEHICLE SERVICE MILEAGE. *TR
HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS FLICKER AND TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY ON 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY IN GARAGE TO FIX PROBLEM. PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED IN SHOP. NEXT DAY ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. PROBLEM BEGAN APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS AGO. *TR

CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR RECALL REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE COSTLY REPAIR OF THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY DID NOT SUCCESSFULLY ADDRESS THE REAL DEFECTIVE PART, THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE SOFTWARE, WHICH WAS FINALLY MADE PUBLIC IN 2013. IN EARLY 2010, THE VEHICLE UNINTENTIONALLY SHIFTED FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL, WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST OUT OF THE ROADWAY INTO A PARKING LOT. THE DEALER MISTAKENLY DIAGNOSED THE CONDITION AS A DEFECTIVE SHIFTER AND REPLACED IT. AT THE END OF MAY 2011, THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN SHIFTED FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN. THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. *JB
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDOW REGULATOR IN MY RR WINDOW THREE TIMES SO FAR AND THE LR ONE JUST BROKE. JEEP IS SAYING IT ISN'T UNDER RECALL AND OFFER NO HELP TO REPLACE IT. THE FEE TO REPLACE THE CRAPPY PLASTIC PIECE IS $50 IF I MANAGE TO RIP APART MY CAR DOOR OR $185 IF JEEP DOES IT. I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE SINCE I'VE LOOKED THIS PARTICULAR ITEM AND MODEL UP SEVERAL TIMES. HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS FLICKER WHEN ON. THEY WILL USUALLY REMAIN ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES BEFORE THEY START TO FLICKER. AT THAT POINT THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASHLIGHTS WILL FLASH OFF AND ON RAPIDLY CAUSING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE TO PANIC. THE FLICKER OCCURS EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AN THE LIGHT CONTROL SWITCH IS LEFT IN THE ON POSITION. I HAVE NOT NOTICED THE FLICKER OCCURRING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND THE LIGHT CONTROL SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION. THIS CONDITION COULD POTENTIALLY BE VERY DANGEROUS DEPENDING UPON THE TIMING OF THE OCCURRENCE. I HAVE CONDUCTED INTERNET RESEARCH ON THIS TOPIC AND FOUND THAT MANY 2005-2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM. EVEN MORE 2005 - 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS HAVE HAD ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS IN GENERAL. MY PARTICULAR HEADLIGHT PROBLEM HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO AN ELECTRONICAL CONTROL MODULE WHICH WOULD COST CLOSE TO $1,000 TO REPAIR OR REPLACE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE FAULTY WORKMANSHIP OR THE USE OF A FAULTY PRODUCT BY JEEP. THE FAILURE OF AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODEL IS NOT THE RESULT OF WEAR AND TEAR. THEREFORE, I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD EITHER BE ADMITTED AND REPLACED BY JEEP OR MADE A SAFETY RECALL. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER STALLING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. TWO ISSUES OCCURRED THAT ARE LIKELY THE RESULT OF THE SAME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST IS THE HEADLIGHTS WILL INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING OR CAUSE. THE SECOND, THE MORE RECENT OF THE TWO PROBLEMS, IS THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WILL LIGHT UP THEN POWER DOWN COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE STILL RUNS (ENGINE) BUT ALL GAUGES DROP AS IF THE VEHICLE WERE OFF, A/C SHUTS OFF, RADIO SHUTS OFF, ETC. WHEN REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAY THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT, ALTHOUGH A BRIEF ONLINE SEARCH TURNED UP DOZENS AND DOZENS OF SIMILAR INSTANCES. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES SHEARED OFF. COMPLETELY CRACKED OFF AND DISINTEGRATED LIKE THERE WAS NEVER A DOOR HANDLE INSTALLED. IT FIRST STARTED WITH THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE AND PROGRESSIVELY CONTINUED WITH THE LEFT INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE, THEN THE FRONT PASSENGER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE ONLY INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE THAT IS STILL INTACT IS THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IN THE SENSE THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR EVACUATION THE PASSENGERS HAVE NO WAY TO EVACUATE THE VEHICLE UNLESS OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS SAFETY HAZARD HAS YET TO BE RECOGNIZED BY JEEP AS OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED AS WELL. THERE ARE SEVERAL BLOGS POSTED ONLINE AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. I AM DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AT THIS POINT AND WISH JEEP WOULD ACTION THIS SAFETY-RELATED CONCERN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
AFTER 11/2 HOURS HIGHWAY DRIVING. APPROACHING STOP LIGHT THAT WAS RED. DECELERATED, BRAKES. LIGHT TURNED GREEN WHEN VEHICLE WAS AT APPROX 30 MPH. THE VALVE STEM ON A JEEP 2006 TIRE SENSOR VALVESTEM BROKE OFF CAUSING THE TIRE TO PREMATURELY LOSE AIR THAT CAN CAUSE SIMILAR PROBLEM LIKE WITH FORD EXPLORER TIRES BLOWING OUT. IT CAN CAUSE INJURY IF PERSON IS IN FRONT OF IT TO ADD AIR INTO TIRE. DEALER STATED NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THE PIECE CORRODING AT THE CAP AREA. TRANSMISSION FAILS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DASHBOARD SAYS ITS IN DRIVE BUT WHEN YOU REV THE ENGINE ITS IN NEUTRAL. I HAD TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY AND RESTART THE ENGINE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WASN'T COOLING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE WIRING CONNECTOR RESISTOR BEING BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,683.
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - SEAT & AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SENSORS - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. DEALER STATED THAT SEAT SENSOR TIED TO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT VELOCITY WAS MALFUNCTIONING ($300 TO REPLACE). DEALER RE-CHECKED NEXT DAY AND FOUND ALL 4 SENSORS MALFUNCTIONING (WHEN 150# MAN SITS IN SEAT, SENSORS READ 250# MAN). NOW ALL 4 SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ($1000) AND FASTEN SEATBELT LIGHT/BELL SOUND ENDLESSLY. DEALER WON'T REPLACE (OUT OF WARRANTY), NEITHER WILL JEEP. *TR
INSIDE DOOR HANDLES ARE ALL BROKEN AND FALLING OFF . ONE BACK DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. THE AREA BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE IS BROKEN PLASTIC THAT COULD VERY LIKELY CAUSE A BAD CUT ON A PERSONS HAND. I HAVE PHOTOS I CAN E-MAIL TO YOU. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED ALL OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRACKED; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WAS ONLY ABLE TO USE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER REGARDING THE CRACKED HANDLES AND THE THEY STATED THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FAULTY DOOR HANDLES FOR HER YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOTHING TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
I HAVE A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH ONLY 50K MILES AND THE DOOR PANELS ON 2 DOORS SO FAR HAVE BROKEN OUT AND NOW YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD BOTH FRONT DOOR PANELS/HANDLES REPLACED. THE PLASTIC AROUND THE DOOR HANDLES IS VERY THIN AND CHEAP AND BREAKS VERY EASILY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN. IF THESE DOOR HANDLE/PANELS BREAK THEN YOU HAVE NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY. JEEP DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT IT AND ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON MY OWN AND FOUND OUT THAT IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THIS JEEP MODEL, ACROSS SEVERAL YEARS MODELS. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED ABOUT THE POOR QUALITY OF THE VEHICLE COMPARTMENT AND SERVICE BY JEEP. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS HOME THIS WEEKEND AND SAID HER CRUISE CONTROL WAS MESSED UP. JULY 26TH 2010 IS WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND MY BACK TWO DOORS WERE INOPERABLE. NO ONE COULD GET OUT OF THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I DROVE AROUND FOR A WHOLE YEAR BEFORE I GOT IT REPLACED. THE OPERATION HOMEFRONT REPLACED MY REAR DOORS FOR ME WITH NOTHING COMING OUT OF MY POCKETS. IF IT WASN'T FOR OHF I WOULD'VE CAME OUT OF MY POCKET $1200 TO FIX JUST THE REAR DOORS. I NEEDED THEM FIXED BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD AND THAT IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF MY CHILD CANNOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. JEEP SAID THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE DOOR PANELS FOR THIS VEHICLE. WHEN DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THE LIGHTS AROUND THE PND21 WILL CIRCLE ALL OF THE GEARS AND EITHER GO INTO NEUTRAL OR 1ST GEAR ON ITS OWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT, IT HAPPENS AT LEAST 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD - HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER SAID IT NEEDS ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE AT A COST OF $750. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE JEEP THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP WITH THE COST OF REPAIR. I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE A LOT OF THESE SAME 2006 JEEPS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID MY JEEP HAS TO MANY MILES 85,000 - BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT HAPPENS TO CALL JEEPS NO MATER WHAT THE MILEAGE - I THINK THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND THEY SHOULD MAKE IT RIGHT - NOW MATTER HOW MANY MILES. I HAVE A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 4 BAD DOOR HANDLES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHO STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. RETURNED SEVERAL DAYS LATER WITH SAME ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALER KEPT VEHICLE FOR OVER A WEEK; FINALLY DETERMINED A DAUGHTER-BOARD ON THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED AND REPLACED ($600). TWO DAYS LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHO (AFTER 3 DAYS) DETERMINED THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED ($1000 TO REPLACE).
