VIBRATION AT 45 MILES PER HOUR AND ABOVE.. *TR
I WAS HEADING TO CALIFORNIA FROM EL PASO, TEXAS ON THE 13TH OF MAY, 2009. WE DROVE TO BLYTHE, CALIFORNIA AND STAYED THE NIGHT. WE DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING WE HEADED TO TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA. WITHIN 50 MILES OUT OF BLYTHE, MY BACK RIGHT TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. WE HEARD A HUGH LOUD NOISE WHEN IT BLEW OUT. I LOST CONTROL OF THE 2008 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH ONLY 9000 MILES IMMEDIATELY. I FINALLY GOT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULL OVER TO THE ONLY AREA THAT WAS POSSIBLE. MY BROTHER IN LAW WAS FOLLOWING ME IN FRONT AND MY GOOD FRIEND BEHIND ME. THEY ALL SAW AND HEARD THE BLOW OUT. I HAD MY WIFE AND TWO BOYS IN THE CAR. I AM SO LUCKY I GOT CONTROL OF THE JEEP. IF I WOULD OF HIT THE BREAK IMMEDIATELY I FEEL THAT WE COULD OF EASILY HAD A ROLL OVER. THE TIRES WERE ALL IN GREAT CONDITION. THE BLOW OUT TOOK OUT MY RIGHT BUMPER. I AM A REGISTERED NURSE AND HAVE WORKED IN THE ER AND HAVE SEEN MANY ROLL OVERS. I WAS AFRAID FOR MY FAMILY AND MYSELF. I HAVE ALSO HAVE WITNESS A ROLL OVER MYSELF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY FLASHED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING FURTHER TESTING OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
2008 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO - ENGINE TURNS OFF AND LOOSE ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING - COMPUTER AND KEY SWITCH WERE REPLACED - FILED LEMON LAW DID FINAL FIX ATTEMPT BUT NOTHING DONE SINCE THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. DRIVE OVER 100 MILES A DAY - HAS HAPPENED WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR LIGHTS OR OFF RAMPS WITH OUT WARNING. CAN NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN - SCARY WHEN 18 WHEELER BEHIND YOU AND IT DOES HAPPEN!!!!! CHRYSLER RESPONSE VEHICLE ACTING NORMAL -ITS GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE KILLED FOR THEM TO TAKE THIS CAR BACK! *TR
08/JEEP /GRAND CHEROKEE/4 DOOR WAGON, LOWER BUMPER IS FALLING OFF, IT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWO TIMES AND REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. I AM AT THE POINT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR AFRAID THAT THE BUMPER WILL FALL OFF AND CAUSE A ACCIDENT. I DO NOT WANT TO CAUSE SOMEONE TO GET HURT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP CHEROKEE. SHE EXPERIENCES UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION DURING BRAKE APPLICATION. ALSO WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE THEN ACCELERATE. THE RPMS WILL INCREASE WITHOUT VEHICLE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER , BUT BECAUSE THE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28000.
IT WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT. THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED INTO DRIVE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN PARK AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 2,355. UPDATED 3/3/09 *CN THE CONSUMER HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING THE VEHICLE THEVEHICLE OUT OF GEAR. THE LEFT FRONT WINDOW DID NOT FUNCTIN PROPERLY. SUDDEN ACCELERATION/ LOSS OF BRAKES. VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO FULL THROTTLE WHILE ENTERING FROM FREEWAY ONRAMP. THE DRIVER TOOK FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR AND VEHICLES ACCELERATOR PEDAL CONTINUED TO MOVE DOWNWARD TO FULL THROTTLE AND WOULD NOT DECELERATE AFTER AN ATTEMPT TO "PUMP" THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO TRY AND GET THE PEDAL TO RELEASE. THE AUTOMOBILE WAS THEN PUT IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN IN" RPM'S". THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY WITH THE AUTOMOBILE COMING TO A VERY LONG AND SLOW STOP WHITE TRYING TO MANEUVER THE AUTOMOBILE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP THE MOTOR WAS STILL AT AN EXTREME "RPM" LEVEL. THE MOTOR WAS TURNED OFF AT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE ENGINE FINALLY STOPPED RUNNING. AFTER SITTING AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR SOMETIME THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO A SAFE LOCATION WHERE THE DRIVER LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR AN HOUR OR TWO AND RESTARTED FOR THE FINAL DRIVE HOME(ABOUT FIVE MILES). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. THE DEALER RAN A SCAN ON THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE EVENT OCCURRED AS STATED. THE DEALER CONSULTED CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER AND WERE RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE AND BRAKE MODULES FOR THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND BRAKING PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE PARTS ARE AT THE DEALER WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN BY THE DEALER AND THE CUSTOMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS READY. WHEN THE CUSTOMER ASKED IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND SAFE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE SAID "WE INSTALLED THE RECOMMENDED PARTS BY CHRYSLER SERVICE" AND WOULD NOT SAY IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PROPERLY OR SAFE FROM THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION/BRAKE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE AS OF TODAY 12-24-2008 REMAINS AT THE DEALER. *TR
THERE IS A LARGE GAP IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON THE SURFACE OF THE DASHBOARD. UNDER MOST LIGHTING CONDITIONS, EXCEPT FOR COMPLETE DARKNESS, THERE IS A PRONOUNCED REFLECTION THAT CAUSES A DISTRACTION FOR THE DRIVER. THE REFLECTION EXTENDS THROUGH THE DRIVERS LINE OF SIGHT UP THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
I HAVE JUST TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 85,000 MILES ON IT AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAT WENT OUT AND SOON AFTERWARD THE DRIVER SIDE HEAT WENT OUT TOO. MY WIFE AND I TOOK THE JEEP UP TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY A LITTLE OVER $1,000 TO GET IT FIXED. THEY TOLD US THE BLEND-DOOR ACTUATORS WENT OUT AND THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES RANGING FROM 1999-2004. WE ARE CURRENTLY GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED AND ARE EXTREMELY UPSET THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS VERY COSTLY ISSUE. WHAT'S EVEN WORSE IS THE FACT THAT IF WE CONTINUE TO OWN THE JEEP, WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TO EXPECT THIS PROBLEM AGAIN IN ROUGHLY 50,000 MILES. *TR
2008 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND - STALLS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. OCCURS EVERY SO OFTEN - HAVE TO STEER IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF ENGINE AND TURN IT BACK ON. IT HAPPENS EVEN WHEN STANDING STILL AT A RED LIGHT. IT HAPPENED WHEN THERE WAS LITTLE MILEAGE ON THE CAR, AND IT KEEPS HAPPENING TOOK IT TWICE TO SERVICE STATION. CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. STARTED HAPPENING NOVEMBER 2008 AND STILL HAPPENS. *TR
PROBLEM #1: 11/15/08, 1800-1900HR, DRIVING 65MPH INTERSTATE IN MARYLAND AFTER HEAVY RAIN. NO WARNING: HEADLIGHTS OUT, ENGINE STOPPED, DASHBOARD MOSTLY DARK. RADIO STAYED ON. HIT 4-WAY FLASHERS, DROVE TO SIDE OF ROAD. ENGINE RESTARTED EASILY. CAR HAD 2500 MILES ON ODOMETER. PURCHASED NEW 8/25/08. JEEP DEALER UNABLE TO FIND FAULT CODE OR REPLICATE PROBLEM. 2ND PROBLEM: HORN ONLY WORKS WITH HEAVY PRESSURE FROM FIST. DEALER HAS REPLACED HORN PAD TWICE AND SWITCH ONCE. *TR
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7L HEMI 4X4. EXPERIENCING LOUD ENGINE NOISE WHEN FIRST STARTED. MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. MORE PRONOUNCED ON COLDER DAYS THAN WARMER DAYS. APPEARS TO EVENTUALLY SUBSIDE AFTER ENGINE REACHED MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURE. NOISE IS NOT ENGINE PISTON SLAP, DOES NOPT INCREASE WHEN ENGINE REVOLUTIONS ARE INCREASED, RATHER, IT APPEARS TO SUBSIDE, INDICATING VALVE TRAIN NOISE DUE TO HYDRAULIC LIFTER NOT FULLY PUMPING UP, RESULTING IN VALVE TRAIN CHATTER REMINISCENT OF MECHANICAL LIFTERS NEEDING ADJUSTMENT, DUE TO COLD OIL (HIGHER VISCOSITY) OR LOW OIL PUMP PRESSURE. CHANGING TO MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED MOBILE1 SEEMS TO INCREASE NOISE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND LOSE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE PCM PROGRAMMED. THE PCM DID NOT STOP THE SHAKING; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER JERKED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FIVE TIMES FOR THE SHAKING ISSUE, BUT THEY CANNOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE SHAKING AND JERKING ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 11,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,514. UPDATED 6/4/09 *CN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS OUT OF FRAME, THE ENGINE HAD A ROUGH IDLE AND IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL. UPDATED 06/09/09.*JB THE CONSUMER SHE AND HER HUSBAND WERE DISPLEASED WITH THE ARBITRATION BOARDS' DECISION. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD AND VIBRATE WHEN AT A STOP AND WOULD FEEL AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL, EVEN MORE WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITION TURNED ON. THE EXPLANATION THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN THAT THE AIR CONDITION WILL CYCLE ON AT THE SAME TIME THE COOLING FANS WHICH WAS SAID TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 11/02/09.
I WAS DRIVING MY '08 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AND DRIVING ON AN ON-RAMP TODAY TO GET ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 35MPH, WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN I LOST ALL OF THE ELECTRIC IN MY JEEP. THE RADIO WENT OUT, THE ODOMETER AND TEMP/COMPASS WENT BLANK, AND I LOST THE POWER STEERING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT OVER TO THE SIDE. I THEN TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE ANY PROBLEMS. I DROVE IT ANOTHER HOUR AND HALF HOME AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT ANY TIME I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER, HOWEVER THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES. *TR
2008 GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 4.7L FLEXFUEL STALLING AT VARIOUS HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THROTTLE LAGGING, HARSH UP/DOWN SHIFTING, HESITATION ON TORQUE DEMAND, FUEL MILEAGE REDUCED BY 20%. AFTER THE FIRST TWO STALLING OCCURRENCES, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FCM (FRONT CONTROL MODULE) SINCE THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE INSTALLED ONE-337- MATCHED THE FEBRUARY 2008 RECALL, ALTHOUGH CHRYSLER DATABASE VIN RECALL SEARCH CAME BACK EMPTY??!! THE THIRD AND FOURTH STALLING EVENTS WERE FOLLOWED UP BY THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SINCE A "SOFT FAULT"-"TORQUE REQUEST DENIED" WAS FOUND STORED WITHIN THE CONTROLLER. HOWEVER, AFTER SIX HUNDRED MILES, A FIFTH STALLING OCCURRED. THIS TIME A HARD FAULT RELATED TO THE MAP SENSOR (INTAKE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE) WAS FOUND. THE REPLACEMENT WAS SCHEDULED IN 48 HOURS. THERE WERE SIX DEALERSHIP APPOINTMENTS(ONLY TWO DOCUMENTED THOUGH ??!!) AND IT WAS INVARIABLY EITHER "WE HAVE TO ORDER THE PART" OR "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WE COULD POINT AT". THE ALMOST NEW VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS. YET CHRYSLER NEVER PROVIDED A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT UNTIL THE SAFETY HAZARD COULD BE LOCATED AND ELIMINATED. AFTER EVERY ATTEMPT OF SOLVING THE PROBLEM, THE CUSTOMER IS SENT AWAY TO TRY HIS (HER) GOOD LUCK WITH A VEHICLE WHICH MIGHT BE OKAY. I DON'T THINK THIS A PROFESSIONAL APPROACH FOR BOTH CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIP SERVICING THE VEHICLE. GUESSING AND SAFETY DOES NOT BELONG WITHIN THE SAME SENTENCE ! *TR
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DIESEL 4X4. POWER LOSS, HESITATION, MOSTLY HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS AND GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE IDLES FINE, THEN WHEN YOU STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE OUT INTO TRAFFIC IT SPUTTERS AND DOESN'T PROCEED AS EXPECTED. VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY SINCE THE COMPUTER SEES NO CODES SO THE DEALER DOESN'T KNOW WHERE TO START LOOKING. IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME AND IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE WHEN IT WILL DO IT. *TR
THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO WANT TO STALL WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. WITHIN 8 MONTHS IT ACTUALLY IS STALLING, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, AND HAS DONE SO AT LEAST 15 TIMES IN TWO YEARS. NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP OR CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGE THE SHIFTING PROBLEM AND HAVE NO REMEDY FOR THE STALLING. *TR
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD 5.7 HEMI WITH 44,000 MILES. CAR HAS FELT SLUGGISH A FEW TIMES TO THE POINT OF ALMOST SHUTTING DOWN. YESTERDAY AS I WAS DRIVING, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON BUT I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. *TR
I WAS HEADING HOME 8/14/08 6PM WHEN A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR TOOK PLACE. I ENTERED FLOODED STREET, OTHER CARS WERE PASSING THROUGH. IN ABOUT 8 INCHES OF WATER THE CAR STALLED. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT STARTED TO SMOKE AND SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING BURNING. I ABANDONED THE CAR AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONFIRMED. THE ADJUSTER ASKED ME IF I HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND WHEN I SAID YES HE SAID THAT IS WHAT SUCKED WATER INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSED THE PROBLEM . THE CAR WAS THE LIMITED 5.7 HEMI ENGINE. THE AUTO IS "TRAIL RATED" AND HAS THE EMBLEM TO PROVE IT, STRANGE FOR A TRAIL RATED AUTO TO BE TOTALED IN 8 INCHES OF WATER. ALL THE TIME I WAS STUCK IN THE FLOODED STREET OTHER VEHICLES, SEDANS, SUVS AND TRUCKS CONTINUED TO GO THROUGH THE WATER WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAD 8000 + MILES AND WAS LEASED ON NOVEMBER 26, 2007. THERE WAS WATER IN THE AIR FILTER AND I ASSUME IN THE ENGINE AND SEVERAL MODULES WERE BURNT OUT. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
MY PARENTS PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON JULY 11, 2008 IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD TO PICK UP SOME FOOD WITH MY 8 MONTHS PREGNANT SISTER IN LAW. AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE IT ACCELERATED WITHOUT ME PRESSING ON THE GAS AND I LOST CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE HIT APPROXIMATELY 3-4 PARKED CARS, I LANDED IN THE TRUNK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE, ON TOP OF IT. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE VEHICLES PARKED, I DON'T THINK THE JEEP WOULD HAVE STOPPED. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT BADLY AND THE AIRBAGS WERE NOT EVEN DEPLOYED. THIS INCIDENT HAS REALLY AFFECTED ME AND THE WAY I DRIVE. I DO NOT EVEN LIKE TO BE A PASSENGER IN JEEP VEHICLES ANYMORE. IN JANUARY, 2010 MY MOTHER DROPPED HER CAR OFF AT A GARAGE TO HAVE IT PARKED. SHE WAS CALLED FROM THE GARAGE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN ACCELERATED IN REVERSE AND THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE GARAGE. JEEP CHEROKEE'S ARE EXTREMELY FAULTY, ALWAYS IN THE DEALERSHIP WITH SOME ISSUE. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. PEOPLE CAN LOSE THEIR LIVES IF THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT RECALLED. *TR
THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I LOST POWER STEERING & BRAKES BUT THE RADIO AND AC STAYED ON. I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO RESTART AND THEN CONTINUED DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THEN, EVEN AFTER THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY KEY FOBS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN MID TURN. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED AS WELL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT NEARLY STRUCK TWO CHILDREN AND A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT HIS VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS NOTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V059000 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER); HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,800 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,840.
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AND ALL ELECTRICAL AND POWER STEERING INOPERABLE. SHUT OFFS HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY AT SPEEDS FROM 20 MPH TO 70 MPH. IT GENERALLY OCCURS UPON HITTING ROAD BUMPS, RAIL ROAD TRACKS OR POT HOLES. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED 4-6 TIMES PER YEAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER'S SERVICE ENGINEERING GARAGE AND SUBURBAN CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE OR FIX THE ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN 2 ADDITIONAL SHUT OFF INCIDENTS IN THE PAST 3 DAYS WITH 2 DIFFERENT DRIVERS. VEHICLE WILL RESTART UPON PLACING TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTING. BASED UPON CHRYSLER RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, I BELIEVE MY 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME ISSUES AS EARLIER MODELS. UPDATED 4/24/2015 *JS
A FEW WEEKS AGO I PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE MECHANICALS ARE FINE. BUT THERE IS A VERY PRONOUNCED REFLECTION OF THE CURVED DASH IN THE WINDOW WHICH IS EXACTLY IN THE LINE OF VISION. IT IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING, IF NOT DANGEROUSLY INTRUSIVE. IT COULD BE EASILY FIXED IF THEY DECREASE THE SIZE OF THE "GUTTER" AROUND THE CURVED AREA ABOVE THE ODOMETER. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A PRONOUNCED REFLECTION AND IN SUCH A CRITICAL LOCATION, AND IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SEVERE DESIGN DEFECT. IT IS PRONOUNCED BOTH ON SUNNY AND CLOUDY DAYS. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT LEASES A 2008 JEEP CHEROKEE 4X4. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING GARAGE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATED, INSTEAD IT WENT INTO REVERSE. SHE WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN WHEN SHE TRIED TO PROCEED FORWARD THE VEHICLE CONTINUED IN REVERSE THEN JERKED AND STRUCK THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WASN'T ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG AND IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DRIVER ERROR. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN BY THE WHITE PLAINS POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT NUMBER 08-10826. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 2,511.
STEERING IS EXTREMELY LOOSE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT INTO DIFFERENT LANES. THE STEERING THEN TIGHTENS BACK UP. THIS HAPPENS UPON START UP OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 12/31/07. IN TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK AND DOESN'T CHANGE GEARS. CAR AT BOTH TIMES WAS DRIVEN AT 40 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN ACCELERATED, THE VEHICLE'S SPEED WOULD NOT INCREASE, RENDERING THE CAR UNDRIVEABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA EMT TIRES, LINE SIZE 255/45/R20. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE CONTACTS WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT TIRES WERE WEARING FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE TIRE. THE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE TIRES AND BELIEVED THE FAILURE COULD BE CORRECTED BY PERFORMING AN ALIGNMENT. AFTER THE ALIGNMENT WAS TESTED, THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES COULD POTENTIALLY BE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT TIRES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,400.
THE CAR CAME WITH AN IPOD CONNECTOR LOCATED IN THE GLOVE BOX. THIS FEATURE WAS NOT AN UPGRADE THAT I PURCHASED AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, IT WAS A FEATURE THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. THIS FEATURE WAS ALSO A FEATURE THAT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME AND ONE OF THE SOLE REASONS I PURCHASED THIS EDITION OF THE JEEP. ABOUT TWO AFTER THE CAR MY ENTIRE UCONNECT SYSTEM WAS IN OPERABLE AND SO WAS THE IPOD CONNECTOR. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE SOUTH BAY JEEP DEALER NEAR MY HOME LOCATED IN TORRANCE, AND THEY RESOLVED IT. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER THE UCONNECT SYSTEM WENT OUT AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND THEY RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER TWO WEEKS AFTER THE SECOND TIME THE UCONNECT SYSTEM WENT OUT AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I WAS VERY UPSET AT THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OLD AND I HAVE ALREADY BROUGHT IT IN THREE TIMES. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT I WOULD SOON BE BRINGING MY CAR IN EVERY TWO WEEKS TO GET THIS SITUATION RESOLVED. AFTER 3 MONTHS OF CONTINUOUS TRIPS TO THE SOUTHBAY JEEP DEALER THEY FINALLY RESOLVED MY ISSUE WITH THE UCONNECT SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE YET TO RESOLVE MY ISSUE WITH THE IPOD CONNECTOR IN THE GLOVE BOX. SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR I HAVE BROUGHT IT INTO THE SERVICE DEALER OVER 10 TIMES TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. ITS BEEN 10 MONTHS SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THIS FEATURE HAS NOT WORKED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. I HAVE SOUGHT THE ATTENTION OF DAVE DRISCOLL, SERVICE MANAGER AT SOUTHBAY JEEP AND HE HAS INFORMED ME THAT HE HAS DONE EVERYTHING IN HIS CAPACITY TO TRY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CHRYSLER BRAND. THE FACT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED AFTER 10 MONTHS IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR WITH FEATURES THAT I CAN NOT USE. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE PURCHASED AN AMERICAN CAR AND WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST. THERE IS NO REASON A CUSTOMER SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE HER CAR IN OVER 12 TIMES. *TR
I WORK IN A TIRE SHOP. ALL THE VALVE STEMS WE USED IN 2007 AND 2008 WERE DEFECTIVE. THEY SPLIT AT THE RIM. THEY ARE A TICKING TIME BOMB. I HAVE WORKED IN TIRES FOR 26 YEARS. *TW

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GLARE FROM THE LINE AFFECTS HIS DRIVING AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.
RE: 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND EDITION PURCHASED IN SEPT OF 07. WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH AND 4 TIMES SINCE I HAVE HAD A LOSS OF POWER TO THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR "REPAIR AND CORRECTION, BUT THE PROBLEM KEEPS HAPPENING. THE DEALER IS NOW AT A LOSS AS TO HOW TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. THEIR SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE THAT I SHOULD PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN I FEEL THE POWER FAILING, SHUT OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTART IT TO RESET THE COMPUTER. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE IS BECAUSE THE ACCELERATOR AND THE COMPUTER STOP COMMUNICATING. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND IT IS NOT RIGHT. THANK YOU. *TR
