SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I WAS ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE, P57/NHTSA 14V-567, FROM FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES FOR MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHICH PERTAINED TO THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE (WIN) MODULE. HOWEVER, MY JEEP DEALERSHIP IN PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA HAS CONTINUOUSLY CLAIMED THAT JEEP DEALERSHIPS CANNOT GET THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPLACE THE WIN MODULE AND THE FREQUENCY OPERATED BUTTON IGNITION KEYS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIN MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. WHEN DRIVING MY 2008 JEEP WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES MY CAR STALLED OUT. THE CAR COMPLETELY TURNED OFF DISABLING BREAKING, STEERING AND MAKING MY GEARS UNABLE TO MOVE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO DRIVE LEAVING ME HELPLESS IN STOPPING THIS MOVING VEHICLE. I FINALLY HAD TO WITH A MY STRENGTH PUNCH THE GEAR INTO PARK WHERE MY CAR THEN FINALLY STOPPED MOVING. I WAS ONLY GOING 20 MPH BUT IMAGINE WHAT COULD OF OCCURRED IF I WAS ON A HIGHWAY, THIS LETTER WHICH HAVE A MUCH DIFFERENT TONE. I TRIED CALLING JEEP TO EXPLAIN WHAT OCCURRED NOT ONLY BECAUSE I FELT THEIR CAR FAILED AND THEY SHOULD PAY FOR MY EXPENSES ON THEIR FAILED PART, BUT ALSO TO NOTE IT FOR A RECALL. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS OCCURRING WITH THIS JEEP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WERE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

DROVE THE CAR HOME WHERE IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN THE ENGINE ON. LUCKILY, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS AS IF THE PART THAT THE KEY WENT IN WAS JAMMED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WCM WAS NOT RECOGNIZING THE KEYS. THE WCM WAS REPLACED AND AS A RESULT, TWO NEW FOBIKS HAD TO BE PURCHASED. THE DEALERSHIP TESTED BOTH THE POWER AND THE GROUND TO THE WCM, ALL TESTED GOOD, FOUND THAT THE WCM WAS NOT RECOGNIZING THE KEYS THAT WERE IN THE IGNITION. WE RECEIVED THE RECALL ON THE FOBIKS, AND SUBMITTED THE PAPERWORK FOR REIMBURSEMENT. WE WAITED THE 60 DAYS THAT WAS REQUIRED BUT WHEN CALLING ABOUT THE REFUND WAS TOLD THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SECOND RECALL IN ORDER TO BE REIMBURSED. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN IF THERE HAD BEEN NO PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE, AND IF I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A NEW WCM, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND THEN WAIT FOR THE SECOND RECALL NOTICE BEFORE REIMBURSEMENT. THE REPRESENTATIVE REPEATED THIS INFO TO ME SEVERAL TIMES B/C I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS HEARING. I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR AND NONE WAS AVAILABLE. THE SUPERVISOR WAS TO CALL ME BACK BUT I RECEIVED NO SUCH CALL. PER THE RECALL, I HAVE PROVIDED A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT AND I CONFIRMED THAT THEY DID RECEIVE THE RECEIPT. I AM ASKING FOR THE CHRYSLER RECALL TO REIMBURSE ME FOR MY EXPENSE AS THEIR RECALL STATES "REIMBURSEMENT WILL BE SENT TO YOU WITHIN 60 DAYS". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
THIS JEEP HAD THE N23 RECALL DONE AND I POSTED EARLIER ABOUT THE ONGOING PROBLEMS NOT GOING INTO 4 LO AND NEUTRAL...BUT THE PROBLEM IS WORSE THAN BEFORE THE RECALL AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE NOW. THIS PROBLEM IS WORSE ON MINE THAN I FIRST THOUGHT. BUT IF THE INTENT BY CHRYSLER TO SOLVE A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH GOING INTO NEUTRAL UNINTENTIONALLY, WAS THE REASON FOR THE RECALL, THEY FAILED. I JUST DID SOME TESTS ON MY 08 GC AND FOUND: IGNITION ON, MOTOR OFF IN ANY GEAR BUT PARK AND THE TRANSFER CASE IS IN NEUTRAL. IN PARK IT'S LOCKED. MOTOR ON, THE TRANSFER CASE WON'T GO INTO FOR 4 LO OR NEUTRAL AND THE SERVICE "4 WD" COMES ON IMMEDIATELY WHEN TRYING TO GO INTO 4 LO OR NEUTRAL. MY SCANNER SHOWS NO CODES, AND THE MESSAGE ON THE EVIC DISAPPEARS ONCE THE JEEP IS OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. IN SUMMARY, IF THE JEEP STALLS AND THE KEY IS STILL ON, THE TRANSFER CASE IS IN NEUTRAL!!! THIS IS MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE THAN BEFORE. *TR

MY VEHICLE KEPT STALLING LIKE IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER. THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT.THEY TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE A FUEL PUMP ISSUE BUT THEY WEREN'T POSITIVE SO THEY ASKED ME TO PICK UP MY CAR AND KEEP A LOG. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 5 WEEKS AND COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS AWFUL. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND ASKED ME TO PICK UP MY CAR. I PICKED MY CAR UP AND THE FIRST DAY I DROVE IT TO WORK IT LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR STARTED STALLING OUT AND I COULDN'T MAINTAIN MY SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD THE GAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET UP TO 45 MPH ON A 65 MPH HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO A DIFFERENT JEEP DEALER WHICH SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION WHICH I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE FIXED BUT I THINK IT WAS RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE AND THE TRANSMISSION BLOWING UP WAS A RESULT OF THAT NOT BEING FIXED. THE CAR IS STARTING TO HAVE A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN I DRIVE IT AGAIN AND I'M NOT CONVINCED I WON'T BE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AGAIN. IT'S COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT WHEN I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY JEEP I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG AND CAN'T HELP ME. IF THEY DON'T KNOW, WHO IS SUPPOSED TO KNOW?? I FEEL THAT MY CHILDREN AND I ARE UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. IT'S UNACCEPTABLE THAT A CAR JUST STALLS OUT OF NOWHERE ON A HIGHWAY AND JEEP/CHRYSLER ACTED LIKE THEY COULD CARE LESS. WHILE DRIVING ONTO A MAJOR ROADWAY WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE VEHICLE THE CAR JUST STALLED OUT AND I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. I TURNED THE KEY TO OFF AND STARTED THE CAR RIGHT UP AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING AT POSTED X-PRESS WAY SPEEDS (70 MPH) THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT DEAD. THE POWER STEERING, RADIO, A/C ETC. SHUT OFF. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE VEHICLE COME TO A STOP. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE LEFT (OFF POSITION) THAN TURNED BACK TO THE RIGHT ON POSITION. THE CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND I CONTINUED ON. THE CAR WILL ALSO STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING IT AND I WILL HAVE TO SOMETIMES START IT TO TWO TO THREE TIMES BEFORE IT STAYS RUNNING. I HAD THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT A FEW YEARS AGO. FIRST THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD KEY. WHEN THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD COMPUTER BOARD. THAT WORKED FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THAN THE INTERMITTENT STARTING AGAIN AND HAS BEEN THAT WAY EVER SINCE. I KNOW OLDER MODEL JEEPS ARE GOING TO RECALLED BUT I THINK THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE 2008 MODEL YEARS ALSO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO TURN INTO THE OFF POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,936.
VEHICLE HAD ISSUE RESOLVED BY RECALL P57 WHERE KEY FOB WOULD STICK IN IGNITION BETWEEN OFF AND ON. THE KEY FIRST GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION ON 8/14/14, A MEMORABLE DAY, BECAUSE IT HAPPENED ON THE DAY WE WERE GOING TO THE TITLE COMPANY TO CLOSE ON OUR FIRST HOME. AT THE SAME TIME THE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE STARTED THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL THE STEERING WHEEL FUNCTIONS ARE DISABLED. THE HORN NO LONGER WORKS. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE AIRBAGS WORK. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE $90 JUST TO HOOK THE VEHICLE UP TO THEIR MACHINES TO DIAGNOSE WHAT IS GOING ON AND WILL NOT CONSIDER THIS AS RELATED TO THE RECALL P57. NOT BEING ABLE TO HONK IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY IS A PROBLEM. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE AIRBAGS ARE FUNCTIONAL SO I GUESS IT WILL TAKE GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT TO FIND OUT (AN ACCIDENT WHICH CANNOT BE PREVENTED BY HONKING MY HORN TO WARN ANOTHER DRIVER).

WE ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH THE IGNITION KEY, IT SOMETIMES RELEASES EASILY AND SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND MOVE IT AND THAT CAN HAPPEN UP TO AS MANY AS 5 OR 6 OR AS LITTLE AS 2 OR 3 TIME. WHEN GOING ABOVE 50 MILES PER HOUR, SPECIFICALLY ON HIGHWAYS, AS SOON AS I HIT A LARGE BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE KEY "BUMPS" OUT OF THE ON POSITION AND INTO THE OFF POSITION. AS A RESULT, I LOOSE POWER STEERING, BRAKE ASSIST, LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, AND ALL OTHER POWER. I AM ABLE TO PUT MY 4 WAY FLASHERS ON AND STEER OFF THE ROAD, RESTART THE CAR, AND GET BACK ON THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MOST RECENT WAS YESTERDAY WHEN GOING 70 ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE BEING TAILGATED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. WHEN THE KEY SLIPPED, I WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY TAKEN OUT BY THE TRACTOR TRAILER. THIS ISSUE IS A KNOWN RECALL; HOWEVER, WHEN REACHING OUT TO JEEP AND OTHER LOCAL DEALERSHIPS, I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. THEY ARE NOT OFFERING ANY SOLUTIONS TO REMEDY THE ISSUE IN THE MEANTIME. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WANTED A RENTAL, IT WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET. I FILED A COMPLAINT BACK IN JANUARY 2014 REGARDING THIS ISSUE. IT WENT NO WHERE WITH NHTSA. CHRYSLER/FIAT SENT OUT RECALL N23...THEIR FIX FOR VEHICLES THAT MIGHT ROLL WHEN REMOTE START WAS USED.THIS RECALL REPROGRAMMING CAUSED JEEPS TO LOOSE 4X4, 4X4LOW ETC. SOME GET STUCK IN 4LOW, SOME IN 2HIGH. AFTER ALMOST $700 AND MONTHS OF AGGRAVATION, PAYING TO REPLACE MY ACTUATOR (WHICH WAS FINE!), I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH NO 4X4, 4X4 LOW OR ABILITY TO SHIFT TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL. I HAD TO HAVE THE DEALER CLEAR THE ERROR CODES AGAIN! I AM REALTOR IN UPSTATE NY AND USE MY 4X4 REGULARLY!! MY JEEP STALLS EVERY MONTH OR EVERY MONTH. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A YEAR REGARDING THIS ISSUE. JEEP STALLS WHILE DRIVING AT LOW AND HIGH RATE OF SPEEDS.
