The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact was able to pull over to an open lane, where the vehicle stopped. The vehicle failed to restart. The contact's husband charged the battery with a portable charger, and the vehicle restarted. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact's husband replaced both the battery and the alternator; however, the failure recurred a week later. The battery warning light was illuminated. The contact's husband replaced the alternator; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contacted stated that the check engine warning light and the brake warning light were illuminated. The contact later became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 15V879000 (Electrical System, Interior Lighting), 19V813000 (Electrical System) and 17V572000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer and two other dealers were contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Alternator started smoking almost cought on fire and PCM probably bad too due to alternator going out, me and wife got scared when we saw smoke coming out of underneath hood. Battery light turned on a few minutes before smoke started, but car didn't shut off
My alternator caught fire. Car won’t start.
The vehicle has had recall 14V530000 performed at a local Jeep dealer in Mishawaka, IN. Vehicle still occasionally shuts off WHILE DRIVING. Called Jeep and they offered no relief. I cannot believe a they dont care about the effectiveness of recall for a known defect likely to cause a crash. AGAIN recall WAS PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE (after waiting 6 months for part!) and vehicle still turns off while driving.
me and my girlfriend where driving when out of no where the air bags deploed causing us to crash. there was no warning lights on the car. no one has had a chance to look into this other then me and the research that i have done i did find that there is an open investigation for the airbigs and this jeep was listed as one of the possible affected cars im not sure what i shoud do next that is why im reaching out to you guys
The engine oil filter housing cooler (part number is: 5184294AE) are made of dissimilar materials (plastic and aluminum) and with normal hot oil temperatures the materials expand and contract at different rates causing failure of the part and leaks. The leak causes loss of engine oil and engine coolant that can sudden engine damage while driving putting the driver and passengers at risk. This seems to affect not only this 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle with a 3.6 Liter engine, but almost all 3.6 Liter engines in other Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram vehicles.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 30 MPH she observed that the check battery light had illuminated. The contact stated that his wife had smelled a burning smell and returned to the residence. The contact stated that he started the vehicle and was checking the battery using a volt meter and he noted that it was only showing 12.1 volts. The contact turned the vehicle off and was returning tools to his workshop when he noted a burning smell. The contact opened the hood and observed a stream of white smoke emitted from the alternator and suddenly the alternator had burst into flames. The contact stated that he extinguished the flame using a garden hose and disconnected the battery terminals due to a clicking sound he heard coming from the alternator. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact had removed the alternator and wanted it to be examined. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 197,000.
My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had an issue with the Total Integrated Power Module since the year I bought the vehicle new from an authorized Jeep dealer. I have since taken it to Rentschler Chrysler Jeep of Slatington PA multiple time and had the vehicle misdiagnosed (even though I told the service manager that I thought it was the TIPM). The finally did a re-wiring of the TIPM as per the recall that was eventually initiated. Since then I have taken my car back multiple times as the issue is not resolved. My vehicle shuts off when driving multiple times a year. This has happened at inopportune times such as braking, going down hills, going through intersections and turning. The re-wiring of the Total Integrated Power Module has not fixed my vehicle and I told the service manager this. The most recent visit to the dealer resulted in me paying for a crank sensor to be replaced. This has not fixed the issue, as my vehicle shut off while driving again. I do not believe the re-wiring of the TIPM has corrected the recall of my vehicle and the service manager said I could buy a new TIPM. I believe this is wrong and I have spent so much time and money on this vehicle. This is putting me and my passengers in a dangerous situation every time I drive my car.
Fuel System failure. Decelerating to a stop or turn and vehicle stalls out. Already had the recalls processed which took months of being on a list. PCM then fails. and because of chip shortage in 2022, couldnt get the car repaired. Finally get the part in and mechanic installs it only to find out the fan, because it sat so long failed too. So after 3 fans (this vehicle takes a special fan) we finally got the right one (mechanic) and he installed it. Got car back and we had another stall out after 4 days of having the car returned. Called Chrysler Recall and escalated to a technician. The stall happens when you are actively driving it.
This vehicle stops while driving. It happens when it comes to a stop or slow down. Will turn off. In some instances I have lost my power brakes. This has been happening since November of 2022. The dealership has replaced the recall part, the fuel pump relay. Still happens. They thought it could be low transmission fuel. No, still happened. They have driven it over 100 miles and it wouldn’t replicate for them so they say they cannot fix it because there is no check engine light on. This is a safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the windshield wiper started to function erratically, and the steering wheel became stiff. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced a power module failure; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
SUV stalls when coming to a stop while making a right turn or while stopping at a light. Power steering and brakes quit working. There are no diagnostic codes thrown for the dealer to check into. This occurs at least three to four times a week. I only commute 4 miles a day. Fortunately everytime this occurs I have been able to come to a stop and no other cars have been near. But if a car was on the street I am turning onto I would have hit their car. The dealer has replaced a few things that could possibly be wrong but the issue does not give diagnostic code to investigate. This is a known issue with Chrysler for this year model and several other years but my Jeep Grand cherokee has no recalls for it.
My car went completely haywire. Windshield wipers going crazy while driving and not being able to stop them. Car alarm is going on and off without cause. Door locks going up and down. Couldn’t start it. Take car to a mechanic he can’t find any reason for it to be doing so. Take it to the dealer and it’s showing no codes as to why my car would be suddenly undriveable. Photos do not do it Justice as the exterior looks normal. I have several videos of the incidents should anyone want to get in touch with me to see them
Vehicle wiring burned out and is causing truck to not start. Mechanic has had vehicle for 2 months and cannot get the wiring corrected for vehicle to stay started. I can smell the burning through vents while driving
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay was faulty. The fuel pump relay was replaced but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer who replaced the fuel pump, and the vehicle was repaired. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local service center who diagnosed the vehicle with power train failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 130,000.
SOMETIMES WHEN PUSHING THE START BUTTON THE CAR TRIES TO TURN OVER FOR HALF A SECOND THEN STOPS. ALL GAUGES AND DISPLAY SHOWS THE CAR IS ON. PUSHING THE START BUTTON AGAIN DOES NOTHING. MUST WAIT A MINUTE, PUSH BRAKE IN AND PUSH START BUTTON AGAIN AND IT STARTS. HAPPENS MANY MULTIPLE TIMES BUT CAN NOT NARROW DOWN TO AS WHY.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle lunged forward. The contact stated that the RPM light and an unknown warning light were illuminated when the crash occurred. The contact stated that when the vehicle lunged forward, the front bumper of the vehicle crashed into the rear bumper of the other vehicle. The contact's vehicle came to a stop once the impact was made and damage was sustained to the front bumper and the rear bumper of the other vehicle. The vehicle was driven to a dealer where the vehicle's front bumper was repaired. The dealer was unable to determine the failure. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The contact stated that the failure recurred while in the driveway. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle lunged forward. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The contact also stated that the mechanics informed her that the vehicle's alignment was off and as a result the tires would wear down ina a unusual way. There is also an issue with the key fob that causes the vehicle to think that the key isn't nearby and causes the alarm to go off.
My Jeep's air suspension system (Quadra lift) has failed 4 times within the past year. At the beginning, the only signs there was anything wrong was that it took the vehicle several minutes to raise from the "park" setting and it would sit extremely low when parked for long periods of time. Upon bringing it to a Jeep dealer in October 2021, they informed me the front air suspension lines had a leak and needed to be replaced. A month later, I received an error message that the air suspension system needed immediate repair, at which point we discovered the compressor and relay failed and needed replacement. I was told the car was inoperable in this condition, but they could set the ride height and close the system and it would be driveable. I proceeded to drive the car in this condition for 5 months and ~5,000 miles while we waited for a backordered part to come in. Upon bringing the car into a different dealer after 5 months I was informed it was EXTREMELY dangerous to drive it in this condition (no compressor or relay, static system set at ride height). I was not told why it was dangerous nor why another dealer thought it was okay. The dealer fixed the compressor and relay and within a month the air suspension system started to show similar signs as before where the car was sagging in park and taking a long time to raise, but this time there were absolutely no warning signs or error messages with the car. I brought it in for repair a 4th time and was told the front air shocks and lines had severe leaks, rendering the car inoperable and dangerous to operate in this condition. Considering the frequency in failures and need for repairs coupled with the lack of warnings or error messages I believe this to be a safety risk. There may be many other drivers of Jeeps with the Quadra lift system driving with similar issues and no warnings that could be potentially dangerous.
Wife was driving car off the highway, around a rightward curving offramp, and she noticed that the steering was handling differently, as if the power steering was off, and the brakes were not responding normally either. She could not stop the car where she intended to and was lucky that there was not cross traffic in the immediate intersection. No lights on the dash were lit up. She turned the car off and on again, and the steering and braking was normal again. We brought it to a trusted independent mechanic and described the issue, and they could not reproduce the issue but looked it up and found multiple reports of this occurring with 2010s Grand Cherokees. They were very concerned about the safety of the car and recommended bringing it to a dealer. One local dealer wanted $1000 to begin diagnosing. The other dealer charged $250 to look around but could not find anything that would explain loss of steering and brakes. We do not feel safe driving the car, as we live in a busy urban setting and any loss of control of the car would likely mean injuring or killing one of our neighbors.
Check engine light flashing! Engine misfire and valve grinding a groove in the cam shaft from cylinder #8. There is a service bulletin issued but no recall or warranty coverage for repair and replacement! They know that they have a problem but don’t want to pay for a recall to repair it! I still have all of the parts from the repair!
Engine stalled at highway speed on a highway, safety of family and motorists endangered as vehicle coasted to side of highway, vehicle would not restart, check engine light on. Codes indicated camshaft sensor issue. Inspection revealed by technician that timing components came loose from engine block and interfered with timing chain which in turn snapped causing catastrophic valve train component damage. Engine determined to needing replacement because of irreplaceable camshaft bearings in engine block. All failed components are retained for further inspection. Estimated repair is $5-7k. Warranty expired as mileage is 170000.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal hissing noise detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V813000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 114,051. Parts distribution disconnect.
2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS MADE TO VEHICLE.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the blower fan had become defective; as a result, the defroster failed to operate as needed. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who could not diagnose the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the relay had burned out causing the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) to fail. The contact was then given an estimate for the repair of the fan, the relay, and the TIPM. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
I’m driving the vehicle and it will not shift out of park after putting it in park. I had to turn the car off in order to get it to shift out of park. This happened to me twice
TIPM module has gone out around 64000 miles causing throttle, starting and charging issues.
While driving I lost power and had to pull over while in traffic. Dash lights started to flicker before power was lost and alternator was smoking. Fortunately was able to pull over. Research online suggests the 2012 model of this vehicle had a recall issued for a similar alternator issue.
Driving for 2 mins . Came up on a red light stopped after turning green my jeep stalled
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the hubcaps were extremely hot while driving. While driving, the vehicle was shaking and pulling. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the rotors, hose, front, and rear brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the rotors, calipers, and brake pads. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Carbon like smell entering cabin, engine stalling, and check engine light on. Ginn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Covington Georgia stated they performed the recall repairs for the fuel relay wiring harness in June 2022 and the brake booster recall fix last week. The break booster recall is still showing unrepaired, and the stalling, fumes entering the inside of the Jeep is worse. The Jeep did not have a check engine light show up until after it left the CDJR service center. Due to dispute with the dealership that sold the vehicle putting an extended warranty in the paperwork, that I was not provided in writing yet its cost was added to the Jeep, the CDJR service center claimed the Jeep required $5700 worth of work to its HEMI V8 5.7L engine but they could not begin the work until I consented to the warranty providers $450.00 fee to teardown the engine for further diagnostics. I could not consent to something I was not provided it writing, so the Ginn CDJR refused to move forward and claimed they performed the last recall repair. They have refused to provide repair records and invoices. They also stated the Jeep is "driveable" when notifying me they would not fix it. Three weeks prior, as it was in their service center for three weeks, the service center instructed me not to drive it.
Malfunction of the engine RPM governor, adaptive cruise control, or Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), or some combination of all of the above. On June 7-9, 2022, spontaneous high engine RPM occurred, which resulted in vehicle speeds that were above urban speed limits unless heavy braking pressure was applied. Additionally, on rural highways, the speed setting for the adaptive cruise control was exceeded without driver input. This also required manual breaking in order to control speed. During this situation, the “driver override “ message would appear although no accelerator pedal pressure was being applied. Additionally, the ETC warning light would randomly light up and then clear. When the vehicle was stopped and placed in park, the engine would rev to approximately 4000-5000 RPM. Especially in congested traffic conditions, this runaway engine RPM condition is a terrifying situation. This malfunction has occurred on this vehicle before, and to a similar extent. However, the Jeep dealer could find no underlying cause. The vehicle will also occasionally operate at a higher than normal RPM, but not to the extent described here. I do have an appointment with my local Jeep dealer for June 21. I will describe the issue with them in detail. My purpose for entering this report is to add my issue to any potential list of other Jeep owners who may have reported a similar issue.
Problem with the PCM. No warning if goes out. Car will die and not start back up. Will not keep a charge. Windshield wipers will go on without doing anything. Can't put windows up or down. All lights on bash will light up. Lights inside and headlights will go very dim. Not safe

The vehicle randomly stalls without warning while driving, causing the power steering and brakes to fail. It occurs randomly every 7-14 days, usually when it's first driven for the day and usually within the first 5-10 miles when slowing down to make a turn. Occasionally it will occur at a stop sign and a few times it has occurred in traffic. It can be restarted by putting it in Neutral or Park. It has been doing this ever since I purchased the vehicle in 2017 with 68,000 miles on it. It now has 195,000 miles and the stalling has become more frequent. I hoped the recall for the fuel relay would fix it, but it has not. I have read that it is a TIPM problem. There are several hundred similar complaints on the NHTSA website. The problem is discussed in Jeep forums on the web. This is a serious safety issue because of potential rear-end collisions. Why won't Jeep or NHTSA address it?
When you turn a corner the engine shuts off. All the electronics still work (like radio, and lights) but you have no power stearing it is manual. You have to coast to the side of the road and put the truck in park and restart it. This has been recalled and fixed a few times and it is still happening and Jeep will not do anything to fix the problem. They want to duplicate the issue but you can not. This happens whenever it wants to - there is no rhyme or reason why it happens and you cannot duplicate it. I've taken notes every time it happens, (gas gage at where, weather, time of day, where I was going, how long I drove the truck) nothing matters, it just happens when it happens. So far now it is happening at least 1 time a month since December 2021. And I have called Jeep every time and reported the incident. I have a case number but they will not fix it or send out a new recall.
Recall 14V5300 - replacing fuel pump relay to prevent vehicle not starting and stalling was performed in November 2021. It has not solved the problem. Th Grand Cherokee still does the same thing. I replaced the relay that was replaced in the recall. No help. Chrysler Corp. did not fix the problem. A new recall needs to happen. This Grand Cherokee has stalled slowing down to come to a stop and when slowing down to turn at an intersection. This is very dangerous. It could cause an accident at the intersection. This recall needs to be revisited or a new recall needs to happen to solve this problem. Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Engine replaced in Oct/Nov 2017 with new engine at approved dealership. Engine failed in Feb 2022. For 3-5 weeks, car would turn off when I was a stop light and I would I have to turn restart the car to drive. One day the engine died while driving at regular speed (e.g. ~30 mph). The car stopped in the middle of road, power was lost, and it never restarted again. I towed the car to the dealership. No cause of failure was provided. After checking the engine, they were unable to get it working and recommended a full replacement at an estimated cost of $14k. I had no warranty on the car and unable to afford to replacement. No trade-in value was offered.
Battery light came on then went off so I thought maybe it was all the rain we had? When locking my car I noticed the horn was very low. I replaced my battery last year so I knew that was good. When I tried to start I got nothing! Tried jumping without any luck. Had it towed to my mechanic who could smell the burning parts. Changed the battery, alternator and is now changing the computer. Not only has this been very expensive to fix but the thought of it just happening while I was driving still is on my mind! Not much of a warning! I am just lucky the whole car didn't go up in flames!
I was leaving home from work and my car started perfectly fine and I drove like 50ft and the car completely shut down. I tried to jump it car to car but it was draining the other car batteries so I got a tow truck to come out and it jumped the car enough to get it in neutral and then it cut off. I changed the battery and alternator and It cuts on them after about 5-10 min it completely cuts off and won’t turn back on again. Lights on the dashboard pop up too before it cuts off.
Issues with the TIPM module on my vehicle. It causes electrical issues within the vehicle as well as shutting down when moving or at a light or stop sign. The local dealership says nothing can be done. It is a safety issue.
Tipm is malfunctioning constantly draining my battery, headlight flickers random check engine codes sporadically… just has been a complete nightmare trying to diagnose
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the defroster system stopped operating as needed. The contact stated that it was difficult to see the roadway while driving. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing an unknown module to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also noticed an oil leak near the oil pan gasket. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Jeep stalled out in traffic. Just died on the road.
While trying to make a turn the power steering and brakes did not work. The vehicle did not stall. After stopping I shut the vehicle off and restarted it and it was working, This happened 3 times in about 2 weeks. I have the vehicle in to the dealer trying to find the problem.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay was faulty and needed to be replaced. The fuel pump relay was replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V813000 (Electrical System) however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 190,000.
The problem first occurred with check engine light coming on early November 2021 and 59,000 miles approximate. It was a code indicating misfire of cylinder #2. The gasket, fuse and coil were replaced on that cylinder on November 13th 2021. The misfire code reoccurred after replacement of all pieces named above. I am now in the position of finding out that my car engine (Pentastar 3.6L v6) was one that have been identified of such failure resulting in engine needing replacement. I have just gone over 70,000 miles and and now being told that I need an engine replacement. I believe that Jeep should be responsible to repair this issue or replace my engine as I was never informed that this problem existed until my engine has started to fail.
my vehicle keeps shutting off when I make a turn - I lose all power - I have no warning at all that this is about to happen - the radio and headlights stay on (no steering at all so I have to struggle to turn the wheel since I am in a turn when this happens) and I have to coast over to the shoulder to put the vehicle in park and start it up again. This truck has been recalled for this problem several times already and repaired several times already and it just keeps happening. I am going to get in a car accident one of these times. It is the Pump relay that is not working.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while his wife was driving 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled and veered to the left; However, she was able to safely guide the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle would not start. The contact stated that his wife did not notice any warning lights. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence and later had it towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with needing the alternator and battery to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred and the vehicle became undrivable. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Subject: Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland: Failure Date: Sep 29, 2021. Dealer has advised that the "Control Module" for the Alternator is malfunctioning which causes the Alternator to function at maximum capacity all the time and results in the "Battery Warning Notice" on the Instrument Panel. Dealer advises that no replacement "Control Module" is available in the entire US at this time (Control Module is foreign made). According to Dealer, the Alternator will fail, and any replacement unit will also fail. What is the fix for this safety issue?
I contacted Keffer Jeep Chrysler in Charlotte, NC when I received the recall notice. This dealer ship has a poor service department and they almost never answer calls but use the voice recorder for messages. I left two messages regarding the recall but never received a return call. Today I tried again and got the voice mail again, so called through the manager's line and finally spoke to someone in service. At first they were very helpful, but when I mentioned the recall it changed and I was informed that it would be more than two months before they could arrange to make the recall repairs (the end of November). I have encountered this before where dealers do not feel that they are properly compensated for recall work and thus try to shift off to another dealer through delays. I am now going to find another dealer, but felt that the impact of the NTSB recall safety measures is being impaired by the conduct of Keffer. The recall is very clear that this defect is dangerous and thus I have not used my Jeep Cherokee pending getting the recall addressed. Thank you for your help in curing this problem for the public at large.
