Our son, 18 years old, driving our 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited had a rollover accident and ZERO air bags deployed. The State Patrol, Tow personal and owner of the tow yard is questioning why the air bags did not deploy. This accident was at 1030ish on 9/17/2021. The car rolled over and landed on its top. The vehicle is a total loss. Our auto insurance is involved in this loss. Open claim. I called Jeep Customer Support and they have a case open on this. I feel lost over this issue. Why did the air bags not deploy? Please help me find answers. Our son busted the side door out and was able to exit the vehicle. I have pictures ect if needed. I am not 100% of the miles .. I know over the 100,000. Please rush this issue due to total loss of vehicle. Both front seat belts (driver and passenger) failed within a few days of each other in mid September, 2021. They do not retract and consequently, the pretensioner does not function. I have made enquires that reveal that it is a known problem, and that NHTSA have previously investigated (NHTSA Action Number: PE19011), but that the file has been closed after the 'preliminary evaluation' and the agreement by FCA US LLC to extend the warranty on the driver and passenger from seat belt assemblies. After having to wait several weeks for an appointment with the dealer, even after explaining the fault and that it was a safety issue, we had the seat belts inspected by a Jeep dealer on 09/30/21 who confirmed the failure. We had previously received a notice from FCA US LLC in relation to the potential issue and that they were extending the warranty to 15 years/unlimited miles. My concern is that the issue has still not been resolved. The parts have not been replaced and we are told that they are on back order with no firm date for the parts to be in and installed, rectifying this serious safety issue. It is coming up on 4 months. It is our primary family vehicle, and the only vehicle we own that can be driven on winter roads. Our other vehicles are 3 season vehicles. I have been in constant contact with the dealer and FCA LLC customer care. Their customer care is window dressing. They continue to give excuses, deflect, the dealer blames FCA LLC and FCA LLC blames the dealer for the defect and problem not being resolved. We have exhausted all friends and family in borrowing a replacement vehicle over the past few months. We are now being forced to drive a vehicle with no operating from seat belts, in contravention of all road safety principles and laws. In my enquires on the NHTSA website, the ODI Resume, date closed 05/03/2, states in one of the final paragraphs 'that and NHTSA will take further action if warranted by future circumstances'. I beleive
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, the contact became aware that the instrument panel was detaching from the vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The instrument panel was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the deale,r where the same repairs were completed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,400.
Sitting in the driver seat parked. The active headrest suddenly deployed . No collision detetected and the latch is still holding the release pin in place, no chassis codes showing deployment. Upon furthur investigation the plastic brackets holding the pin on either side seemed to have broken as if the plastic had aged or was under to much stress. Thankfully i was leaning forward enough that it barely hit the back of my head and the cushioning absorbed much of the impact pressure.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 MPH, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing a new transfer case. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000. The VIN was not available.
My vehicle has the very well known problem for delamination of the dashboard. My airbag light has flickered on the dash a few times and dealership says that this is a big safety concern. It looks like it may be putting tension on the passenger side airbag creating risk of early deployment or failure to deploy in an accident. It already cracked my defroster vent.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated when he started the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to illuminate. The contact stated on a different occasion, while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle would not accelerate as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking and air condition became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the fuse box under the hood needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage 80,000.
The headrest deployed for absolutely no reason. The car was parked and unoccupied. Upon entering the vehicle we immediately noticed the headrest was popped out. I'm thankful I wasn't driving at the time!
I was merging onto the highway from an on-ramp and the vehicle stuttered a d stalled. The jeep dealership diagnosed the issue and said it was a bad computer controller 5-10 days for part to arrive then 2 days later I was informed the computer controller wasn’t the problem. Now they think it’s the fuel pump. After searching the symptoms I found a recall for 2014-2016 Jeep’s for loss in the magnetic coating on the tone wheel resulting in possible engine stall. 2014-2016 Jeep’s manufactured between June 9 2014 and March 29 2016. Still waiting for a fix. I was stuck on the side of the highway with my 9 year old daughter for 5 hours! Safety issue!
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stationary, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and it was diagnosed with needing the PCM replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they would cover a portion of the repair cost. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
Purchased vehicle in 2014 and from the start Vehicle occasionally fails to increase speed when acceleration is increased. Under 30000 miles vehicle lost power moving at very low speed. Problem diagnosed at Arrigo Sawgrass as Powertrain Control Module failure. It is a risk if vehicle not responding to increased speed when needed. My research indicates that thousands of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees in an Australian Batch were recalled for Powertrain Control Module Fault and the failure of my vehicle under 30000 miles seems to match with these recalls and should be carefully looked at for possible recall as well
Front passenger active headrestraint defective. Headrest activated erroneously when plastic brackets holding steel bar broke. This caused the headrest to forcefully extend/deploy forward. Driver side headrest was not affected. Steel bar remained captured in claw which would have released steel bar if vehicle should be rear ended thus causing active headrestraint to engage (note: vehicle was not hit in this case). Should this occur with passenger in seat or to driver side while vehicle in motion it can cause an accident or injury to seat occupant.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The part was not available for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph when the vehicle's driver seat headrest suddenly deployed. The contact had spoken to the dealer however the appointment for the repair had not occurred as of yet. The contact stated the driver received neck injuries however no medical attention was needed. I have received notices about Recall W79/NHTSA 20V-699 "Important Safety Recall". I went to my local dealer and they told me the parts are not available. They said they would put me on a waiting list, but that I'm number 162 on the list and they are currently working a number from November of 2019. I called FCA to complain. They directed me to another dealer in the area. That dealer made an appointment and then canceled it due to no parts availability and said they'd put me "on the waiting list". They gave no time frame. I just received another notice urging me to get this urgent safety recall fixed. My take is that FCA is dragging their feet in hopes that the longer they delay, the less repairs they will have to do.
While driving the drivers side headrest blew forward causing my head to violently push forward, contacted a dealership but no response as of yet.
The driver headrest popped open when stopped at a red light. No accident. Just happened spontaneously.
Happy Wednesday: Issue 11427346 THATS MY ISSUE TOO. This is occurring with my vehicle with many others. I found out today Power Steering Fluid ran out and was empty but no leak is detected. It is the Steering rack where the fluid is going so it is undetected which can cause gears to lock up and crash since owners do not detect a leak and do not know where it is going. I got an oil change and they told me it was almost empty buy inches and to get parked ASAP until it was filed and that there is an issue. Miracle DODGE/Jeep in Gallatin, TN said there must be an issue when we went to buy the power steering fluid at a dealership since the Jeep only takes MOPAR Hydraulic fluid at 22.00 a quart. They are aware there is some issue if the fluid is empty but no leak detected by me or anyone else looking for one. This is a issue with crash potential. It could have killed me if i ran out 100% and my gears locked up. My time is spent taking my cancer stricken mother to the Drs office and had II not got an oil change? I would never know and my gears would have locked up. Many have reported. Why is this not a recall since the Steering rack being replaced is a $2000.00 cost to fix. I have 68, 500 miles on my Jeep 2014 GC Limited with low miles?. This is unheard of. First, the faulty Engine Oil sensor $450.00 to fix, then the faulty seat belt clip breaking which was covered by you all and fixed..Now? The Power steering rack eating up the Power steering fluid and leaking onto brake boots which mine look rusted so that would explain that but unseen by the driver? HELP me and others who have reported this since 2020. Make it a RECALL ASAP. Nobody has $2000 to $3000 to fix faulty issues with these Jeeps. Please HELP!. My stress levels are at an all time high from this newest issues with my Jeep. I am not sure how much more I can handle with these faulty issues. I feel like we all need to do a class action lawsuit. Thank goodness for my Oil change.
I was driving on a busy street in San Marcos. When my Dash board lit up and all the sudden the electronics stop working to include my speedometer.
UNKNOWN I was parked when out of no where i heard a poping noise and i lucky no to have my head on the head rest at the moment of it popping , till when i tried putting my head on it i felt something off and thats when i saw that the head rest poped . I was not in a crash i didnt not hit anyone or was hit by anyone as well just happened on its own .
Passenger headrest popped open randomly while driving. Inspection is available upon request. My understanding is that this only occurs if a collision is detected. However no collision occured. No one was injured however had my wife been sitting there she could have easily been injured. The headrest could have smacked the back of her head. No warning lamps indicated anything wrong no warning occured before the deployment of the headrest. This seems to be an ongoing problem amongst jeep grand Cherokee owners.
Leather separating from dash board. Causing distraction while driving also bubbles interfere with low light sensor on dash.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at highway speeds, the emissions filter warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact then stated that the error message disappeared while he was driving; however, a message reading "Incorrect Diesel Exhaust Fluid quality detected. No engine starts in 200 miles" appeared on the instrument panel. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was instructed to bring the in vehicle for an inspection. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
On the drivers side, the plastic guide that guides the seat belt into the pillar and down to the retraction unit, is cracked and is pinching the seat belt, not allowing the seat belt to properly retract.
The contact 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for the recall repair. The vehicle was repaired. After several months, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stop sign, the contact saw in the rearview mirror that there was steam coming from underneath the rear of the vehicle. The contact kept driving and the vehicle became overheated and stalled. The contact parked the vehicle at a parking lot and added water to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the EGR valve was cracked. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.
While driving, I heard a loud explosion, and my head/ neck jerked forward to the steering wheel. I immediately thought someone hit me from the back. My daughter in the passenger seat shouted, “Are you Ok?” She told me that the back head rest exploded. I was shaking and tears filled my eyes as I pulled over to the side of the road. The driver’s headrest deployed for NO reason! I was so lucky that this did not cause a major accident! That evening (and for the next 4-5 days), I had a headache and lower neck pain. Today, it still feels sore. Even though the dealer fixed it, the salesmanager could not confirm if the new head restraint had the same faulty parts inside. My daughter is 15 1/2…She is scared to death of learning to drive in my Jeep. She witnessed the restraint deploying, and doesn’t want that to happen to her. Me either! I have been a Jeep owner for 22 years. Sad to say that I might not be much longer :-/,
Vehicle is downshifting automatically. Burning smell, squeaking/ whistling sound coming from under the hood. Smoking from under the hood tone to time. Car stalling on take off.
Driver’s Car seat headrest pop out while running almost causing an accident.
Driver side seatbelt won't retract. There seems to be a broken piece of plastic on the top piece.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The contact stated that they paid for the repairs due to the failure.
The active head restraint on the passenger side deployed on its own with no outside influence
Driver head restraint for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee deployed while sitting at the airport between July 13, 2021 and July 18th 2021. Car was not in motion. Took car to Jeep dealership for inspection and replacement. It was determined by the dealership "Internal latch will not reset and hold properly". Head restraint was replaced with a new one. Mileage was 89,883. No warning messages or symptoms. Dealership stated they could not replace the passenger head restraint until it also "fails".
Randomly my grand Cherokee overland 4wd stared spraying oil all over the rear of the vehicle. Took it to jeep and they said the rear deferential was shot and that the hose had melted off due to over heating. The vehicle never once displayed any indication of any failure or overheating. When I asked how could there not be any warning lights I was told it just happens. After researching this issue I discovered it's a very common problem. My concern is the vehicle could have easily locked up and caused the vehicle to flip or cause an accident with no warning.
HID headlight bulbs were replaced by dealer. Upon return of the vehicle I tested the light pattern at night on an unlit road and the results were not stellar. There are 2 noticeable dark areas on the roadway imparting vision and clarity of the roadway. Returned to dealer and let them drive the car at night. They told me that there are two dark areas in the light pattern and that they are caused by “burns” on the inside of both headlight lens. I was informed that they need replacement to the tune of $1300.00 each. The service manger informed me that he could try to disassemble the headlight housing and “polish” the lens with no promise of success. The area of the lens causing the distortion is directly in front of the projector portion of the housing. To me it appears to be a design or material selection issue. Also interesting is that the areas of distortion look differently in each lens, the passenger side is cloudy, whereas the driver’s is granular. Pictures are difficult to take but my best effort are included.
The headrest on my 2014 jeep grand cherokee deployed on its own while driving. The headrest is pushed so forward that i am unable to drive my car safely.
Engine stopped working suddenly while driving. Pulled to side of road, tried to start it with no luck.Starter working, cranking but engine is not firing. No warning messages,no check engine lights, only changed message on cluster Before it showed "press brake then press button to start engine" now it shows "press clutch ... to start engine".3 weeks back visited dealership(MotorWorld in Wilkes-Barre,PA) to fix last recall. After 2 days spent at dealership, nothing happened, recall was not completed.Accident happened 7/7/21, next day vehicle was towed to dealership, set for diagnostic for Friday July 9,2021,and now it is sitting there for 10 days, with no information what exactly happened to vehicle
PASSENGER HEAD RESTRAINT HEADREST DEPLOYS WITHOUT COLLISION. WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT, (POPPED OPEN AND FORWARD). DEALERSHIP FOUND NO FAULTS
The drivers side seat belt will no longer retract making it not useable. It appears that the D-ring is cracked preventing the seat belt from working properly, Appears that there are several other NHTSA incidents similar to this one and have been under investigation.
My vehicle was in park and unable to start, all of the lights and indicators worked as expected but it the message on the dashboard said to continue in Drive. I was unable to start the vehicle or unlock the doors. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and they said that I need to replace the automatic transmission control module. This is the same component that has failed in countless Jeep Grand Cherokees yet there has not been a recall for my specific model.
Passenger side front seat seat belt fail to retract once extended, resulting in excess seat belt material across the body, and thus possibility of a delayed or insufficient tensioner reaction in an event. After taking to a local service shop, the problem is with the upper plastic guide pinching the belt. This is a huge safety issue since there can be slack in the belt for the front passenger. Also, the upper plastic guide on the driver side front seat belt has a fracture.
While driving with my husband and me sitting in the passenger seat the passenger head rest deployed hitting me in the back of my head
I was driving my 2014 Grand Cherokee probably going 25mph the first time it happened. My Jeeps dash started blinking and popping up warning signs and then all of a sudden the Jeep comes to a fast stop and the engine completely killed. Everything locked up. My brakes, my shifter, my gas pedal everything locked, no screens were turning on and it wouldnt let me turn the Jeep back on for a couple minutes. When I turned it back on it was fine. A couple days later it did it again and again but I was going 40mph. Dropped off at the dealer told them to keep it till they found the problem. It was there 2 weeks didnt do it again. Hasnt done it since but Im still afraid its going to happen again but ill be on the highway.
I was preparing to stop at a stop sign when I heard a pop/burst. It was startling. I thought some glass or something broke but couldn’t see where. I looked over and I noticed my car seat headrest was open. Thank God no one was sitting there. And no one has for months now. So I’m unsure why it would have done that.
Passenger headrest deployed without accident and struck passenger in the back of the head with a great deal of force.
While driving the headrest deployed and hit me in back of head.
I was driving and the drivers seat headrest popped out
BAD LEFT SIDE HEAD STANDARD CHRYSLER PROBLEM - 3.6 - v-6
Mechanic reported back to me a small crack in the plastic adaptor housing plate for the oil filter. Said crack is leaking a small amount of oil and "could" result in a safety issue-possible fire hazard. Said problem can be repaired with a new metal component at a cost in excess of $650. It is my understanding there have been in excess of 37,000 plastic components which have cracks and Jeep has not issued a recall. I've been trying to get Chrysler/Jeep to recognize this is a design-manufacturing /engineering problem that Jeep should be held accountable for and not the consumer. This problem falls squarely on Chrysler -Jeep yet they want the consumer to pay $650++++ when they have switched over "now" to a metal component to address the issue
Large oil leak, could have gone on fire or seized the engine. Turns out the oil filter housing assemble was cracked which seems quite common in this make, mode and year.
