TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL FILLER NECK CAME OFF WHILE REMOVING THE FUEL PUMP. THE FAILURE CAUSED FUEL TO SPILL FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH OUR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS WITH SOME DELAY IN ACCELERATION WHEN AT COMPLETE STOP AND THEN LURCHING FORWARD. OUR ALTERNATOR IS NOW NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AND IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR 2014 JEEPS WITH DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. OURS CLEARLY HAS A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR.
OUR DEALERSHIP COMPLETED EPA AND CARB EMISSIONS RECALL V08 FOR 3.0L DIESEL EMISSIONS ON 20 MAY 2019. MILEAGE OUT WAS 63,819. 200 MILES LATER, WE STARTED THE VEHICLE AS NORMAL. LESS THAN A MILE LATER, AS WE STARTED TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND OUR VEHICLE'S INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED TWO SEPARATE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) RELATED WARNINGS. THE FIRST SAYING DEF NEEDED SERVICE/CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP, WHILE THE SECOND WARNING SAID WE COULD NOT RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING ANOTHER 200 MILES. WE IMMEDIATELY FOUND A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE ACTING SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED US THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS LONG AS THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS PERFORMANCE ISSUES. HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY EMISSION RELATED, THAT WE WOULD BE OK IF WE DIDN'T DRIVE OVER 200 MILES. HE SAID GOING OVER 200 MILES MIGHT ABRUPTLY PUT THE VEHICLE INTO A "LIMP MODE"! WE WERE 150 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OTHERWISE OPERATING NORMALLY, SO WE TOOK THE SERVICE MANAGER'S ADVICE AND DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. OUR JEEP IS AN OFF-ROAD, TRAIL-RATED, GO ANYWHERE VEHICLE DESIGNED TO BE USED OUT IN THE WILDERNESS/NATIONAL PARKS AS WELL AS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO HAVE CONTROL OVER STARTING BECAUSE OF AN EMISSION VIOLATION/PROBLEM. ESPECIALLY WHEN IN A REMOTE LOCATION WHERE A RELIABLE VEHICLE IS PARAMOUNT TO SAFETY. MOREOVER, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS CRASH IF THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY GOES INTO A "LIMP MODE" EITHER OUT ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT A STOP LIGHT. TO DATE, OUR DEALERSHIP HAS NOT FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NOR THE DEF WARNINGS. THEY ARE KEEPING OUR VEHICLE AND WORKING WITH FIAT/CHRYSLER AUTOMOTIVE (FCA) REPRESENTATIVES AND ENGINEERS ON A SOLUTION.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHEN IT SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING 40 MPH LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND COULD SLOW DOWN TO THE SHOULDER WHERE I WAS THEN PUSHED AWAY FROM TRAFFIC THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO A SHORT IN MY TIPPIN AND MY FUEL PUMP WENT MY TRUCK WAS BROUGHT BRAND NEW AND BARELY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND OVER 2000 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING FOR FAULTY EQUIPMENT PUT IN THE VEHICLES FROM 2005 TO 2014 AND CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE SO THEY HAVE NOT PUT A RECALL ON IT AND IT IS AN OPEN LAWSUIT THAT I SAW IT COST ME OVER $3000 TO GET THIS FIXED AND THIS COULD REALLY HAVE WENT A DIFFERENT WAY I COULD'VE BEEN HIT AND KILLED CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BUT I GUESS THEY WON'T MAKE A RECALL AND LESS SOMEONE IS KILLED
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while in reverse and attempting to shift into the Park position, the vehicle rolled backward independently and crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was able to be driven. No police report was filed. As a result of the failure, the shifter needed to be moved upwards before being able to shift the gear in the park position. A few years later while coming to a slow stop to place the vehicle in park, the gear shifter failed to remain in park. The vehicle continued to roll forward causing the rear driver-side door to hit the barrier around a nearby mailbox. The air bags did not deploy. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene. No police report was filed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Investigation ID Number: PE15-030 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were not able to diagnose the failure and confirmed that there were no recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
N58 MY JEEP DID SOMETHING WEIRD ON 4/21/2019 DASH LIGHTS CAME ON LIKE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS ON IN THE DASH BUT THE PUSH BUTTON LIGHT DOWN BELOW THE HEAT BUTTONS WAS ALSO ON. ALSO SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WAS FLASHING ON THE DASH ALONG WITH THE SELECTOR WHEEL ON THE LEFT OF THE DASH SCREEN WENT TO TERRAIN MODE ALL BY IT SELF.ALSO ON THE SCREEN IT CHIMED 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNAVAILABLE. I WAS IN DRIVE AND DRIVING STRAIGHT.
WHILE DRIVING LOST POWER STEERING. VEHICLE WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
HAVE HAD REPEATED FAILURES OF HEADLIGHT BULBS ON 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH BULB COST ALONE ~$250 PER BULB. LIFETIME OF BULBS IS FAR FAR BELOW THAT OF BULBS FOR OTHER MODEL CARS (NOT JEEPS) I HAVE OWNED IN PAST AND CURRENTLY OWN. MOST RECENT BULB FAILURE WAS IN APRIL 2019.
2014 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO WITH <57K MILES. AFTER TAKING IT IN TO HAVE RECALLS DONE AND FLUIDS CHECKED/OIL CHANGE, CAR WAS HAVING STEERING ISSUES AT SLOW SPEEDS (THINK PULLING IN/OUT OF PARKING SPOTS). BROUGHT IT INTO THE THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT NEEDED A NEW GEAR ASSEMBLY (LEAK) AS WELL AS *POSSIBLY* A NEW PS PUMP, BUT THEY WOULDN'T KNOW FOR SURE UNTIL WE BROUGHT IT BACK IN. I WAS TOLD BY ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT IT WILL, IN FACT NEED BOTH DONE...FOR $3K. THIS IS PROBABLY MY 12TH JEEP AND I'VE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A "KNOWN ISSUE", YET JEEP HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT THIS GRAND CHEROKEE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD, AND WE LIVE IN SUBURBAN CHICAGO...HARDLY ANY HILLS OR MOUNTAINS HERE.
LIFTERS COLLAPSED INTO THE ENGINE AT 145K MILES REQUIRING INSTALLATION OF NEW ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. AT 2 YEARS OF AGE VEHICLE WAS MAKING KNOCKING NOISES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS MULTIPLE TIMES REPLACING ALL LIFTERS, ROCKERS, CAM SHAFT AND CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ALL AT OUR EXPENSE. EACH TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AND THE KNOCKING CONTINUED. AFTER SPENDING ALL OF THIS MONEY THE END RESULT IS HAVING TO SPEND MORE ON THE NEW ENGINE.
BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED FROM A LOCAL USED LOT. NOTICED ABOUT A WEEK LATER AFTER IT HAD RAINED A COUPLE OF TIMES THAT WATER LEAKS INTO VEHICLES FRONT, DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARDS AND ALSO FILLING UP THE BATTERY BOX WHEN IT RAINS OR VEHICLE IS WASHED. HAVE HAD THE WINDSHIELD SEALED AND IT'S STILL LEAKING. I BELIEVE THAT IT'S COMING IN FROM "A" PILLARS DOWN TO THE ROCKER PANEL SEAM SEAL. IT HAS CAUSED RUST TO FORM ON UNDER DASH COMPONENTS AND UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT. IT'S CAUSING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO CORRODE AND TO ACT UP. ALSO THE CEL TO COME ON SAYING THAT ALL MODULES HAVE NO CONTACT WITH THE ECM/PCM. THE WATER LEAKS AS IT SITS OR EVEN WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. UNEXPLAINEDLY THE SEAT REST BURST FROM ITS ATTACHMENT AND HIT HER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CLIPS WERE BROKEN AND IT WAS NOT FIXABLE. THANKFULLY SHE WAS SLOUCHING AT THE TIME AND WAS NOT INJURED.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN PARK. DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED AND BROKE THE BRACKET.
THE VEHICLE HESITATES TO START WHEN PUSHING THE BUTTON. TAKES MULTIPLE REPEATED TIMES TO START.
PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST POPPED OUT WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT A STEADY RATE ON A LOCAL STREET. PASSENGER WAS IN SEAT. PASSENGER REPORTED SOME DISCOMFORT. HEADREST CANNOT BE RESET.
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AT 106,000 MI. WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ISSUES WITH THE WIRING IN THE HEAD RESTRAINT. WOULD NEED TO HAVE HEAD REST REPLACED FOR $700. I DON'T BELIEVE THERE IS ANY REASON THIS SHOULD HAVE FAILED AS THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE DIESEL EXHAUST FILTER FULL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FREMONT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (39639 BALENTINE DR, NEWARK, CA 94560, (510) 656-8700) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS UPDATED FOUR TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
WENT THROUGH A CAR WASH AND 2 MINUTES LATER ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH ALSO SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CAME ON WITH A CHIME SOUND I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE CODE READ AND STORED CODES ARE AS FOLLOWS U041500, U040300 THE ABS LIGHTS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT WENT OFF A DAY LATER WAS TOLD A POSSIBLE WATER GOT INTO SOMETHING AND THEN DRIEDOUT
ABS AND STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ALSO THE DASH SAYS SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IT ALL HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME I THINK IT MIGHT BE PART OF THE ABS RECALL
THE CAR WAS ROLLED AWAY FROM THE DRIVE WAY WHEN PARK AT NIGHT FEW TIMES ALREADY .
I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE EXACTLY 2 MONTHS AGO, MILEAGE WAS AT 58733. THE OTHER DAY AFTER A TRIP OUT OF TOWN, I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF OIL UNDER MY CAR. TAKE MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, MILEAGE IS NOW AT 60579, THINKING MAYBE SOMETHING WASN'T TIGHTENED PROPERLY AFTER THE OIL CHANGE TO FIND OUT THAT MY OIL FILTER ADAPTER HOUSING IS LEAKING DOWN THE BELL HOUSING. THE OIL LEAK WAS NOTICED WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, IT JUST RAN OUT 7 MONTHS. REPAIRS COST ME $1200.00. I REACHED OUT TO DEALER AFTER READING ALL THE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH JEEP AND ASKED IF THE HOUSING COULD HAVE BEEN CRACKED UPON THE LAST OIL CHANGE. OBVIOUSLY, I DO NOT REALLY DRIVE THAT MUCH BUT AFTER THIS LONG TRIP IS WHEN THE OIL REALLY POURED OUT OF THE CAR.
DRIVER SIDE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWS HOT AIR EVEN WHEN TEMP IS SET AS LOW AS 63 DEGREES WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE WORKS NORMALLY. SERVICE REP AT DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP VEHICLES. WAS TOLD REPAIRS COULD BE OVER $1000. IF JEEP KNOWS THAT THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR ERROR?
WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY THE PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED. AFTER SEARCHING, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF IT HAPPENS ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE SYSTEM DID NOT ACTIVATE, BUT THE PART OF THE HEADREST THAT HOLDS THE LOCKING PIN BROKE, WHICH ALLOWED THE LATCH TO RELEASE WITHOUT THE SYSTEM ACTIVATING.
NOTICED WHEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY STEERING GOT REALLY WOBBLY THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I ROATETED MY TIRES HOWEVER POPPED MY HOOD AND NOTICE MY POWER STEERING RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY FILLED IT UP AND THAN NOTICED GREEN ALL OVER MY DRIVEWAY.
I WAS DRIVING NORMAL CITY STREET SPEED (APPROX. 40-45MPH) WHILE RUNNING SOME ERRANDS ON MARCH 23, 2019 WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HEADREST SPRANG OPEN WITH A LOUD NOISE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR COLLISION TO PROMPT THE RELEASE OF THE HEADREST. WHEN RETURNING HOME, MY HUSBAND AND I TRIED TO PUT THE HEADREST BACK INTO PLACE WHEN WE NOTICED A PLASTIC BRACKET THAT WOULD HOLD THE PIN IN PLACE, AND THEREFORE LOCK THE HEADREST BACK INTO POSITION, WAS BROKEN. I CALLED MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPAIRING THE HEADREST. BECAUSE MY CAR IS OUTSIDE OF ITS WARRANTY, THE PARTS AND LABOR WOULD COST ME $1000. THE SERVICES SPEACIALIST AT THE DEALERSHIP THEN SUGGESTED TO ME THAT I SHOULD GET IN A LITTLE "FENDER BENDER" AND HAVE THE HEADREST REPAIRED UNDER MY INSURANCE COVERAGE (ALSO KNOWN AS INSURANCE FRAUD). I FIND IT APPALING THAT A FLAW IN THEIR DESIGN, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT (IMAGINE IF MY DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST ALL OF A SUDDEN DEPLOYS WHILE I'M DRIVING??), IS NOT BEING MANAGED BY THE CAR MAKER, AND INSTEAD, ACCEPTS THE MONEY FOR THE REPAIRS ANY WAY THEY CAN GET IT. I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED BY THIS INCIDENT, BUT GRATEFUL THAT NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN THE HEADREST SNAPPED.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.*DT *TR
JEEP RANDOMLY STALLS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND/OR JERKS WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. VEHICLE ALSO DOWNSHIFTS HARD FROM 8TH TO 6TH GEAR, ALL OTHER GEAR SHIFTS ARE FINE. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH VEHICLE STALLED WHEN ACCELERATING TO SPEED UP. VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 8TH GEAR WHEN STALL OCCURRED. ONCE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED IT STARTED BACK UP WITHOUT ISSUE TO DESTINATION. IT HAS CHUGGED 5 SEPARATE TIMES WHEN DOWNSHIFTING ON FREEWAY IN THE 7 WEEKS OF OWNING CAR, THIS TIME IT COMPLETELY DIED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OTHER INDICATIONS OF ENGINE/TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NO FAILURES RECORDED TO ONBOARD COMPUTER. GAS TANK 3/4, OUTSIDE TEMP 38, OIL TEMP 180, TRANSMISSION TEMP 140; NORMAL ACCESSORIES ON INCLUDING LIGHTS, RADIO, HEATER, SEAT WARMER LOW. ALL RECALLS UP TO DATE INCLUDING CAMPAIGN UC1.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JACKSONVILLE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE AND RAM LOCATED AT 11101 NURSERYFIELDS DR, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32256, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COST FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE $1,200. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THERE IS A BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TO OPEN THE FUEL DOOR AND EVERY TIME I HIT THIS BUTTON THE FUEL DOOR WOULD MAKE A SOUND LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO OPEN AND IT WOULDN'T. SO I WAS UNABLE TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO MY NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL DOOR HOUSING. PARTS AND LABOR COST $448 WITH TAX AND IT WAS A 3 1/2 HOUR JOB TO DO BUT I HAD TO FIX THIS IN ORDER TO PUT FUEL INTO MY CAR.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH THE VEHICLE MADE A POPPING SOUND AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS 64,000 MILES AND SUFFERED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
DRIVER SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING. HAD TO PAY OVER $500 FOR REPAIR. MOON ROOF STARTED LEAKING, AFTER TWO TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, HAD TO PAY $750 TO HAVE IT REPLACED.*DT*JB
THE EGR COOLER FAILED, ALLOWING HOT COOLANT TO BE DIRECTED INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE HOT COOLANT CAUSED THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF INTERNAL MECHANICAL COMPONENTS IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND SEVER THERMAL DAMAGE TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, EGR COOLER, AND OTHER FUEL COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS FAILURE HAVE ENCOUNTERED FIRES IN THE ENGINE BAY DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE HEAT APPLIED TO THE COMPOSITE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THIS FAILURE IS TYPICALLY UNDETECTED UNTIL A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF COOLANT HAS OCCURRED, OR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS DAMAGED ENOUGH TO CAUSE A MALFUNCTION DETECTED BY THE COMPUTER. THE RAM 1500 MODEL THAT USES THIS ENGINE ALREADY HAS A RECALL FOR THE EGR COOLER. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MODELS AS WELL.
TAKATA RECALL WHEN I PRESS THE START BUTTON IN THE JEEP IT HESITATES TO START. SOMETIMES HAVE TO DO IT COUPLE TIMES, THEN IT SHIFTS FUNNY WHEN YOU PRESS ON GAS LIKE IT DOESN'T GET ENOUGH POWER.
AS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I BEGAN TO COAST AND PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AT THE TIME I STARTED TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD FOR 1 SECOND. AS I CAME CLOSER TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE SURGED AGAIN AT WHICH POINT I HAD TO "STAND" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT ME AND MY FAMILY FROM REAR-ENDING A VEHICLE AND GOING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION.
AT THE TIME WHEN THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY HAS JUST RUN - THE OIL FILTER ADAPTER BRACKET HAS STARTED LEAKING CAUSING OIL LOSS IN THE ENGINE. THIS WAS FOUND BY THE OIL SPOTS ON THE DRIVEWAY THAT WERE NEVER THERE BEFORE. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND TSB SB-10058301-5939 IN THE NHTSA WEB SITE. THE TSB TELLS THE MECHANIC TO USE A WOODEN DOWEL PUSHED DOWN ALONG THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE OIL FILTER INTO THE "VALLEY" AND WHEN IT IS PULLED OUT TO LOOK FOR OIL ON THE TIP. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I FOUND. THE OIL FINDS ITS WAY AROUND THE BLOCK AND ALONG THE TRANSMISSION AND DRIPS OFF THE SHIELD ONTO THE GROUND. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AS THE PART ALONE IS RUMORED TO BE $799 PLUS THE LABOR. IT IS AN DESIGN FLAW IN THAT IT IS A PLASTIC PART WHERE PREVIOUSLY IT WAS A METAL PART - COST SAVINGS THAT CREATED A DEFECT. SO FAR -I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE DEALER TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR ON MY OWN. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE WHEN THE OIL IS LAYING ON TOP OF A HOT ENGINE IS A PUDDLE.
WHILE GOING THROUGH A CARWASH THIS WEEKEND, MY CAR ACCELERATED AT SOME POINT AFTER THE GEAR WAS PUT INTO NEUTRAL, AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE BRUSHES IN FRONT OF ME PARTED I COULD SEE I WAS GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND TRIED TO STOP WITH THE BRAKES BUT DID NOT STOP IN TIME. A COUPLE YEARS AGO WHILE SLOWING TOWARDS THE END OF A LANE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IT HAD ALSO ACCELERATED, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. PERIODICALLY, BUT NOT OFTEN, WHEN I AM AT A STOP AND THEN PROCEED MY CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD AS IF I HAD FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL, BUT I HAVEN'T. MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN WITH ME AND SAID NOT TO FLOOR IT. I JUST GIVE HIM THE LOOK AND SAY I DIDN'T. YESTERDAY, HOWEVER, JUST HOURS AFTER THE CAR WASH INCIDENT, HE WAS DRIVING THE JEEP WHEN HE THOUGHT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME "OVER-ACCELERATION" AFTER PROCEEDING FROM A STOP. THE CAR-WASH ATTENDANT YESTERDAY HAD ACCUSED ME OF NOT PUTTING MY CAR IN NEUTRAL BUT I HAD POINTED TO MY DASH TO SHOW HIM IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME BUT THEN LOOKED AT THEIR VIDEO WHICH WAS INCONCLUSIVE. BUT SOMETHING MADE HIM DO A GOOGLE SEARCH WHERE HE CAME ACROSS SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION IN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, AT WHICH POINT HE APOLOGIZED FOR BASICALLY ACCUSING ME OF LYING.
2018 - "SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE POPS UP. OVER $1000 I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE IT AS IT WAS JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY TIME. PAST FEW YEARS, IN COLD WEATHER, THE SUSPENSION CREAKS AND CRACKS NOISES. JUST YESTERDAY, FEBRUARY 2019, LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD, "SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION IMMEDIATELY" POPS UP ON MY WAY HOME ON INTERSTATE. VERY BUMPY RIDE ALL THE WAY TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I FEEL I WAS LUCKY WHEN I MADE IT, AS THE TOPS OF THE REAR TIRES WERE ANGLED INWARD. APPARENTLY, ONE AIR SUSPENSION "BAG" BLEW OUT. THIS RESULTED IN THE PUMP/COMPRESSOR BURNING OUT. HAVING TO REPLACE BOTH BAGS AT THE SAME TIME AND THE PUMP, OVER $4,300 REPAIR FOR SOMETHING NO FAULT OF MY OWN AND FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD ONLY HAPPEN IN CARS THAT ARE MUCH OLDER IN MY OPINION. LOOKING ONLINE, APPEARS TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. WILL JEEP ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND MAYBE "RECALL" THIS SYSTEM SO WE CAN BE REIMBURSED? I AM ABOUT TO SWITCH BRANDS AS SOON AS I GET THIS ONE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT AND ANYONE ELSE I EVER COME ACROSS WHO WANTS TO BUY A JEEP, I WILL TELL THEM THE HORROR STORIES FROM MY CURRENT OVERLAND, MY PREVIOUS OVERLAND, WITH ITS 2011 MODEL ISSUES, AND MY UNLIMITED WRANGLER ISSUES BEFORE THAT. I DON'T HEAR ANY ISSUES LIKE THESE FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY WITH OTHER BRAND VEHICLES.

THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RON CARTER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM OF LEAGUE CITY (281-668-5383, LOCATED AT 3535 GULF FWY, DICKINSON, TX 77539). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), AND 18V332000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT AT THE SHOP FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. FOUR DAYS LATER, THE DEALER STILL HAD NOT COMPLETED THE REPAIR, STATING THAT THE GEAR WAS STUCK IN PARK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
VEHICLE WAS IN FOR 100,000 MILE SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP. DURING INSPECTION TECH NOTED THERE WAS SEEPAGE COMING FROM THE INPUT/OUTPUT SHAFT SEALS ON THE TRANSFER CASE. AFTER READING JEEP FORUMS I NOTICED THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE.
VEHICLE HAS 107,000 AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A PIN HOLE LEAK IN THE RACK AND PINION CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID. AFTER LOOKING ON THE JEEP FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE GENERATION JEEP.
WHILE IN MOTION, ON MY WAY WORK, MY 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT WITH 3.0 L TURBO DIESEL ENGINE, 220 AMP ALTERNATOR AND 49000 MILES EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING, BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, VOLTMETER SHOWED NO CHARGING OF BATTERY. MY ELECTRONIC INDICATOR SYSTEM STATED THE VEHICLE WENT INTO BATTERY SAVER MODE WITH A LOSS OF ABS, HEATING AND VENTILATION, AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM, ALL SAFETY ENHANCEMENTS SUCH AS PARK SENSE, NO ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM CHANGES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS A RECALL ON GASOLINE ENGINE 2014 GRAND CHEROKEES ALONG WITH OTHERS (CHRYSLER RECALL T36) AND I HAVE SEEN ANOTHER COMPLAINT SIMILAR TO MINE SHARING THE SAME ENGINE ON THIS SIGHT. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS WAS CAUSED BY CATASTROPHIC ALTERNATOR FAILURE. A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED AND THE BATTERY LIGHT IS STILL ON AND STILL IN BATTERY SAVER MODE( AN INDICATOR ALSO OF NO CHARGING) AND VOLMETER INDICATES NO CHARGING. I WILL BE REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR TOMORROW.
ON FEBRUARY 11, 2019, THE SAFETY MECHANISM IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THERE WAS NO COLLISION AND HEADREST CAN AFFECT A DRIVER'S ABILITY TO REMAIN FOCUSED WHILE DRIVING. MILEAGE AT TIME HEADREST "DEPLOYED" WAS 78,000. THERE IS ALSO A SUSPENSION ISSUE SEARCHABLE ONLINE. THE ERROR MESSAGE READS: "SERVICE ADAPTIVE DAMPING SUSPENSION SYSTEM." OWNER HAS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT. MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AT TIME ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED. PLEASE CONTACT OWNER FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
TURBOCHARGER WATER COOLING INLET, MOPAR PART NUMBER 68242889AA, IS EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES ON THE HOT SIDE OF THE TURBO, AND THE RUBBER HEATER HOSE THAT JOINS THE TWO METAL SECTIONS SUBSEQUENTLY FAILS. THIS RESULTS IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF COOLANT, ENGINE FAILURE, AND EXTREME TEMPERATURE WHICH MAY CONTRIBUTE TO A FIRE HAZARD. IN ADDITION TO MY PERSONAL VEHICLE FAILING, I KNOW OF AT LEAST 5 OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES AND RAM TRUCKS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. ALL THESE SHARE THE 3.0 ECODIESEL ENGINE.
DRIVER SIDE FRONT SEAT BELT NO LONGER RETRACTS BACK IN CAUSING THE SHOULDER BELT TO LAY IN PILE ON MY LAP. DEALER SAID WHOLE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING SOME AIR BAG SENSOR(S) NEED TO BE REPLACED. PARTS ARE $400 ALONE. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT.
2014 JGC WITH PENTASTAR 3.6L V6 GAS ENGINE STARTED MAKING A TICKING SOUND AT START UP APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO. THE SOUND DID NOT DIMINISH AFTER WARM UP. DIAGNOSED TODAY AS A FAILED LIFTER AND POSSIBLE CAM DAMAGE AS WELL. INQUIRED OF THE DEALER ABOUT TSB 09-002-14 AND WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE WAS LIMITED TO ONLY 2011-2013 MODEL YEARS AND THAT THE ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE WAS MADE AFTER THE DATE OF THE AFFECTED ENGINES AND WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE REPAIR/WARRANTY BEING OFFERED BY FCA REGARDING THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JUNE 2013 AND PURCHASES IN SEPTEMBER 2013.
SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM COMES UP ON MY DASH AND THEN THE TRACTION LIGHT COMES UP ON MY DASH AND WON'T GO OUT. WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN OR RIGHT SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE PULLS. ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MAKES A HUMMING NOISE.
BOTH LIGHTS ILLUMINATING THE REAR LICENSE PLATE HAVE BLOWN OUT. THIS WAS DISCOVERED DURING AN INSPECTION. THE REPLACEMENT LIGHTS ARE DEALER ONLY PARTS COATING OVER $200 EACH.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
