The contact owned a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds in the driveway, there was an abnormal metallic sound coming from underneath the vehicle. After a visual inspection, the contact became aware that an unknown part had detached. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rear coil spring. The contact was informed that the rear coil spring had detached. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V413000 (Suspension). The VIN was included; however, the vehicle was repaired by the dealer on December 6, 2023, 17 days before the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 9,000.
When starting and stopping the engine an awful noise is heard, it sounds like metal is grinding for about 2 seconds. Also on one occasion the electrical system seems to go haywire, as my power lift gate would not work. I tried several things to include turning the vehicle on and off, pressing the lift gate button several times, pressing my clicker, and pressing the lift gate button in the cabin area of the vehicle, to no avail. I finally had to pull the lift gate down, while this was occuring the inside the vehicle on the lift gate lights would turn on and off it was the strangest thing.
During operation of the vehicle on 12/5/23 the vehicle lost communication to the power steering module, instrument cluster and entertainment center. The car was able to safely be stopped. After restart all functions were normal. The car was brought to the dealer on 12/6 for troubleshooting and historic codes consistent with complaint were present. As of current day 3/29/24 FCA (Fiat Chrysler auto) has agreed to repurchase the vehicle under Mass Lemon Law Guidelines.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V413000 (Suspension) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The radio, which included hands free calling, has been having issues of locking up, connecting calls but the caller not being able to hear the person in the vehicle. In order to correct the issue it requires the driver to reset the radio. This involved multiple choices on the interface to get to the radio reset option. This causes a major safety concern if done while driving. I have taken the vehicle to the service department at the dealer 4 times and been provided a Star Online Publication (S238A000026 Rev. A) dated October 2023 which states "Intermittent radio concerns will be corrected in the 4th Quarter radio software enhancement, updates over the air." I is now the 2nd quarter of 2024 and the issues have not been corrected and this Star Online Publication has not been updated.
Dashboard showed Transmission Error Message: Service Transmission Continue in D, Do Not Shift or Turn off Engine Until you Reach a Desired Location, You may not be able to shift again until serviced. Vehicle was stuck in 1st gear and would not shift out for 5 minutes. Taken to dealer with engine light on and shown pictures of error messages and dealer found nothing wrong with vehicle. This all happened on a highway and I had to navigate from high speeds to slow and stop in the exit lane.
I rented a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee at our local airport (Monterey, California) and drove it to Los Angeles and back for a total of about 700 miles over four days. I am an experienced driver and have been working on cars all my adult life. On several occasions, I attempted to the use the cruise control function to set a fixed speed for my journey. In doing so, I would first turn cruise control ON, accelerate to the desired speed, then MOMENTARILY press the SET button, at which point the vehicle would 'remember' my current speed and maintain this speed indefinitely. Nothing unusual about this, and it's how I've used cruise control in multiple cars over the years. Now, as in a lot of cruise control systems, one may use the SET button to cause the vehicle to accelerate, instead of pressing on the gas pedal. This is also a common way of doing things. One holds down the SET button, the vehicle increases speed, and once the vehicle gets to the desired speed, one releases the button and the current speed is maintained. But not in this Jeep Grand Cherokee. Instead, I found that if I pressed and held down the SET button for a few seconds that the vehicle would CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE long after I had released the SET button. For example: Traveling at 75 mph, I held the SET button for two or three seconds and released it. The vehicle began to accelerate at about two seconds, but continued accelerating for a period of twenty seconds, until I finally stepped on the brake, at which time the vehicle had reached 91 mph. In my run to LA and back, I tested the system several times. In the above example, I used my cell phone to make a video recording of the event. I'm glad to share this with NHTSA staff. My general belief is that this is not a one-off defect. It is the way the system is designed to behave, and it's unsafe. There are a few comments on the web pertaining to 2021 & 2022 Jeep products that support what I have said here.
My vehicle was stopped for several minutes on an upgrade, with stopped cars in front of me due to a traffic jam. I needed to keep pressure on the brake, lest my car roll backwards. After about three minutes, brake pedal lost pressure and my foot went to floor. The engine then went into gear and my car rammed car in front. Engine stalled on impact and was hard to restart. Vehicle currently at Jeep dealer awaiting inspection from Stellantis tech team. This situation reported to their customer care center. No warning lights appeared on dash prior to crash. Indeed, this could have been a more serious accident. I will never trust this vehicle again, and intend to take steps to exit my lease.
The dealer has been putting us off for months on the safety recall for the coil spring issue. They keep telling us that the parts are unavailable. We are afraid to drive our brand new car. They will not give us an ETA on the repair.
While driving on the freeway, our sunroof window exploded and shattered completely. We were not around any other cars or an overpass. Thankfully the upper screen was closed otherwise glass would have fallen on us. I have read on Jeep forums that this is happening to a lot of newer Grand Cherokees, so it has to be a manufacturing issue.
Front panel of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered with no visible causes, warnings, etc. Safety risks included potential glass being introduced to the cab of the vehicle had the headliner panel been open for natural lighting. Other risks include damaged headliner and electrical components depending on where the glass traveled. Dealership claims this is not an ongoing issue though multiple forums talk about this happening as well for the same style vehicle. We will be dropping car off at the dealership for evaluation as the car is covered under bumper to bumper warranty.
The problem happens intermittently and not all the time. I will be driving on the highway or in the city and sometimes when I barely touch the gas pedal my car will accelerate at high speeds, and the RPM gauge will go all the way into the seven mark and it Turns red and it starts beeping and the only way to get that off is for me to let off the gas pedal and come to a stop and then shift it from drive to park and then that’ll usually fix the problem. And other times when I’m on the highway. I will barely touch the gas pedal and it’ll accelerate at high speeds and I’ll have to go from the gas pedal to having to slam my brakes on to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. A friend of mine who had driven my vehicle, called me and asked me if I noticed that it was doing that as well and I explained to her that I I was aware. I have not taken it to the dealership yet for that problem yet however, I do have an appointment made. I’m just waiting on them to find me a loaner vehicle that will seat my six person family because I cannot drive a different vehicle that does not fit my whole family .
I am reaching out to discuss a serious and concerning issue I recently experienced with my Jeep Grand Cherokee L. While driving, the vehicle suddenly lost power steering completely, making it incredibly difficult to control. This was not only unexpected but also quite frightening, given the potential for accidents in such situations. To add to the concern, about six warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. Notably, messages like "Blind Spot Monitoring System Unavailable", "Lane Assistance", and, most critically, a warning about the power steering were displayed. I noticed the check engine light come up as well and the detectors on my mirrors were lit up as if the entire system was malfunctioning. Having looked into potential causes, I came across a recall notice for the 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models regarding a steering assembly issue. I am deeply concerned that my vehicle might be affected by this recall and, considering the risks associated with such failures, I believe this matter needs urgent attention. Additionally, I had my little one in the car and am deeply concerned that we could have potentially been involved in an accident related to the malfunction. I’m reading that others have experienced the same issues
I accidently backed into a tree when my parking warning system and blind spot warning system didn't work. Damage to my vehicle was to the right rear quarter panel, bumper, tailgate and tail light. It was only after the accident occurred, that I found out that Jeep had a recall for the rearview camera visibility system. I feel that Jeep should be responsible for the repairs. My insurance company advised me to file a complaint with you and also with Jeep before they become involved. Please advise me as to what steps I should take. On 10/07/2023, about 7:30 pm, I was driving down 6th Street in Beaumont California at about 30 mph speed when all of a sudden the engine made a horrible loud noise and it looked like the accelerator pedal was suddenly hit. It seemed that the vehicle speed did not increase accordingly, but my foot had released the gas pedal already. Once I confirmed that the noise was indeed coming from my car, I pulled over and turned off the engine while the loud noise was continuing. Then I restarted the car and the problem didn't reoccur this time. Then, the car has performed normally.

Engine Mounts are faulty / victim of design fault. I have had my engine mounts replaced twice within the first 7,000 miles of ownership (at 3,825 miles and again at 6,583 miles). Per my service advisor this is a common issue with all Grand Cherokee models and he anticipates the need to replace them again.
When turning the vehicle to the left there is a rubbing noise that comes from the front end.
The front bumper clips do not hold the bumper in place and comes unhooked on both sides while driving
Vehicle made left turn with partially obstructed side view and struck a Pedestrian in a crosswalk. Pedestrian impact with center of vehicle (license plate). No Pedestrian Emergency Braking activated. Vehicle brought to the dealer (with LE Reconstruction) - front radar sensor not tracking. Further tests of vehicle with live pedestrians walking in front of vehicle; both from step off curb into bike lane and live pedestrians walking across the front of the vehicle with no alert or apparent tracking. All tests performed above 3mph (5kph) and below 39mph. Test also above 30mph with lane line activation, but did not detect Pedestrian path intrusion. Inside, the AEB for Pedestrian Emergency Braking is ON, with "Warning + Active Braking". See photos. Tested with all three sensitivity settings (Med, Near, Far). Additional: Rear sensors worked while in reverse with a Pedestrian side approach. Bosch CDR/EDR 900 connected, no Pedestrian option illuminated (only Airbag). Further: Tested another Grand Cherokee with similar trim options, on similar tests and it too did not detect or alert to Pedestrian path intrusion.

Faulty rear camera. After 2 days that I bought the car, whenever I put reverse mode, a blue screen comes up saying “camera system unavailable”. Rear camera won’t work. It works sometimes and sometimes the blue screen comes up, even after resetting the screen.
My emergency braking system doesn’t work and jeep corporate can’t fix it. The car won’t stop and won’t notify me in an emergency and it’s not safe. The dealer gave me a second jeep and it has the identical problem. That vin is [XXX] . The dealer also said they have no fix for this issue. My on board screen for everything the car does shuts down completely very often and if it is not shut down it goes black screen for a few seconds and then returns. This is not acceptable to me as I lose my navigation which I depend on a lot
The contact leased a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the brakes were inoperable. While driving in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle was slow to respond. The ABS, traction control, and brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the wiring. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle at the dealer parking lot, the same warning lights illuminated. The brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The vehicle remained at the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 5,364.
As noted on the IIHS.org website, 2022 and 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee's built prior to April 2023 experienced a fuel tank rupture in the side impact test conducted by IIHS. Stellantis redesigned the underbody structure to correct this issue. This redesign was put in place on vehicles assembled after March 2023. IIHS originally tested a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee in October 2022 and identified the fuel tank rupture during the side impact test. However, IIHS did not post this information on their website until almost a year later when tests of the redesigned vehicle were performed, and the fuel tank leak issue had been corrected. Hence, 2022 and 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s built prior to April 2023 have a significant safety concern that IIHS did not inform the public about in a reasonable time frame and more importantly, Stellantis is aware of but has not issued a recall to correct the issue on vehicles that were built prior to the redesign. Please review the side crash results on IIHS paying attention to the 2022 test where the fuel tank ruptured. Brings back memories of the infamous Ford Pinto gas tank design. I am asking for NHTSA to assist in requiring Stellantis to issue a recall on vehicles built prior to the redesign to either modify the vehicle to address the fuel tank rupture concern, or if that is not possible buy back the vehicles. Please contact me by e-mail [XXX] ) of cell [XXX] if you require more information to pursue this issue. Thank you. When the transmission warms up to operating temp, the first gear shift is extremely rough from a stop. It is most noticeable when accelerating on a highway. It is even worse when utilizing Sport mode. The best way to describe it, is a jerking motion or the transmission failing to shift in time. This is an everyday occurrence and not a random one. My concern is the transmission will fail in the middle of driving on a busy highway. The car has been to the dealer and according to them, this is “normal operation”. It has not been inspected by anyone other than a dealer and no warning lamps are on. This has been an ongoing issue since the date of purchase.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the garage, he noticed that the rear coil spring was on the ground. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear coil springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While walking away from the parked vehicle, there was a popping sound and a bang coming from the vehicle. The contact then saw that the rear coil spring had detached and was rolling down the driveway. The vehicle was towed to the same local dealer. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V413000 (Suspension). The manufacturer was contacted and declined a buyback and trade-in assistance request. The failure mileage was approximately 26,800.
While backing out of garage as I routinely do each morning, my gauge panel indicated a "Service Steering System" light as well as the check engine light. I lost all power steering. I unhooked battery, and reconnected. Power steering was now available, but the check engine light remains on. I took car to dealership where it has set for 8 days. I have been told they are waiting on part #68628263-AA, a rack & pinion. I was not offered a loaner vehicle or an explanation other than that they are waiting on a part. I was told to just "take the car home and drive it if I knew how to reset the battery to get power steering to work". This seems very unsafe.
Making left hand turn through 4-way intersection. Car opposite of us also making left hand turn. Our Grand Cherokee collision system thought the two vehicle were going to collide and locked the brakes in the middle of the intersection almost causing a 4 car accident. This is the second time this has happened since purchasing 06/03/23. Driver neck injury sustained. Seeking medical attention. Jeep is currently at the dealership where they are trying to reproduce/diagnose with no success. Multiple online articles found showing complaints of this EXACT issue proving it's not isolated to our vehicle. the program saving seat are never the same. it seems to be the random positions and constant adjusting of the seats . I took it to the dealer and they performed a re programming per a service bulletin. It didn't help. Took it back today and they can't find anything wrong with it. No codes and they confirmed the previous programming took and is up to date.
We have a recently purchased Jeep L with 5200 miles on it. Never off road, just a family commuter. Today my wife was driving the car for the second time and the power steering went out completely and it was very hard to turn the wheel. A bunch of other likes came on like the adaptive cruise and active lane management and front collision icons. The dash was lit up with warning including a large steering wheel icon in red. We shut the car down and restarted multiple times and the issue was still there. After 15 minutes of being on the phone to get it towed to the dealer, the issue went away on the next start with just a check engine light remaining.
The spring coil has been recalled. Took vehicle to interstate dodge in West Monroe, LA and they stated they are only allowed to order one coil at a time per week, so it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get the parts. I need both coils replaced. This is unacceptable and puts me in danger every day I have to drive it to work or store. I’m suppose to drive 9 hours away in 3 weeks to take care of my elderly parents.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated at high speeds and the contact lost control of vehicle and drove off the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove over metal fragments on the roadway causing damages to the front driver’s and passenger’s side tires before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to a Collision Center. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 11,000.
Power steering stopped working when pulling out of parking spot. Then warnings about blind spot and check engine lights came on.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was receiving routine service at the dealer, he was informed about a recall on the rear coil springs. The contact stated that parts were backordered for over thirty days. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after leaving the local dealer and driving approximately 35 MPH, the rear coil springs detached. The passenger’s side end of the vehicle dropped towards the ground. There were no reported injuries. The detached parts were recovered by the CHP. The vehicle was towed back to the local dealer, where it was confirmed that the rear coil springs had detached. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V413000 (Suspension). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
The vehicle had a recalled for the rear coil springs, took it in for inspection and they gave me a paper at the dealership saying it was placed correctly. After we took it for the inspection my family and I took a trip 6 hours away from home, 15 minutes to getting to our destination the Right Rear Spring detached from the vehicle while driving 45 mph. When the incident happened we all screamed because the vehicle went side to side and got scared even our dog got scared since he was in his kennel at the back of the suv. I’m so thankful nothing happened to us because if my husband would’ve been driving above 60mph we could’ve flipped and got injured. We drove it to the nearest Jeep dealership there was and left our vehicle there to get it fix. We are 6 hours away from where our SUV is at, I’m scared to drive it back home and the same thing happens. I don’t feel safe driving that vehicle.
While turning left, vehicle hit brakes on its own, driver and two passengers experienced neck pain. Two vehicles behind both screeched to a halt. There is dash cam video, but won’t let me upload.
Gas gauge, miles to empty, and low fuel indicator are not correct. I ran out of gas (without knowing it) twice. There was no gad light that came on. Fuel gauge said almost 1/4 tank full and 68 miles to empty. The first time this happened I had it towed to dealership thinking the AEB system stopped the car. Dealership found no issues. It happened a second time and my husband thought about the gas gauges being inaccurate and put gas in. He was right, started right up after putting gas in. After I filled it, I drove 300 miles before the Full line on the gauge started to move down. The whole system is not right when showing fuel levels. You would think the gas light would at least come on if you were out of gas
The vehicle while in cruise set at 70mph accelerated to nearly 90mph and would not disengage even when brake applied, had to turn vehicle off. It has done this twice almost causing an accident. Vehicle has also suddenly applied the brakes very hard while driving approx 55 mph, nothing in front of vehicle. Apparently vehicle was applying the brakes because when we reached home the brake rotors were glowing cherry red. Dealer has looked at it once and said in is probably our pedal getting stuck on the floor mats. I did not have foot on any pedal while in cruise. This last time no check engine light cam on.

Our 2023 jeep grand Cherokee was recall due to the coil springs. I was in the shop being repaired for two weeks. They called us and told us that the problem was taken care of and it was repaired and ready. 20 minutes after we picked it up the coil spring flew off the car as well as other parts almost causing us to get into an accident. The parts flew out and behind us and then into traffic behind us causing other cars to swerve out of the way. Again, this occurred after they said, they fixed the very doing/coil that came out of our car. Very dangerous. We hv pictures of our son with the parts in his hand after looking and then grabbing them from side of road . We left the parts with hero dealership We hope they don’t try to re use them
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that after parking on an incline and activating the electronic parking brake, the electronic parking brake failed to disengage. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the rear electronic parking brake actuator had failed due to water intrusion. The actuator was replaced but the failure later reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 17,000.
Airbag requiring service light came on at 100 miles. Then the SOS call button was stuck lit up with an error message on the touch screen every time vehicle was started. Then the AEB system went off while driving (not in danger of being in a crash) and brought the vehicle to a stop and put itself in Park and shut off. Vehicle would not start again after that. Had to get it towed
