WHEN BREAKING ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN DRIVE PAVEMENT ALL FOUR TIRES LOCK UP. I HAVE GONE THROUGH NUMEROUS INTERSECTIONS AND STOP SIGNS AND BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT HIT ANYONE. I NOW HAVE TO APPROACH STOP SIGNS AND LIGHTS THAT HAVE ANY INCLINE BY PUMPING MY BREAKS AND COMING TO A CRAWL. THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH MY 2003 AND IT DIDNT HAPPEN WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE JEEP. SINCE I LIVE IN MAINE WHERE WINTERS ARE BAD IT IS VERY TROUBLING AND STRESSFUL.
ABS SENSOR IN REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED AFFECTING THE ABILITY OF THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO FUNCTION. WELL KNOWN PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET IDENTIFYING FRAYED WIRES TO THE ABS SENSOR. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD 3 SENSOR FAILURES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE ABS SENSOR LIGHT LATER ILLUMINATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND INSPECTED IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS MODEL IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO-ADJUSTING SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT AUTO ADJUST AS STATED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. VEHICLE HAS POPPED OUT OF GEAR AND COASTED FROM ITS PARKING SPOT WITH PARKING BRAKE FULLY APPLIED. (SEE COMPLAINT 10897627 FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION COMPLAINT). NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETIN RELATING TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH VEHICLE'S PRIMARY BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STOPPED USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. INSPECTING THE BRAKE SYSTEM IT WAS IDENTIFIED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED. *TR
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2011, MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOWOUT THAT WAS ASSOCIATED TO A JEEP CONFIRMED FAULTY REAR SET OF BRAKE CALIPERS AND ROTORS. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN ON FOUR PREVIOUS OCCASIONS REGARDING A "LOUD SCRAPING AND GRINDING" NOISE FROM THE REAR TIRES AND A BURNING ODOR. ON ALL OCCASIONS, THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE. AFTER THE INCIDENT ON MARCH 11TH THAT DROVE ME OFF THE ROAD AND IN TO A DITCH, I CONTACTED THE JEEP CORPORATE OFFICES. MY CASE WAS ESCALATED TO A SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS TEAM WHO DISPATCHED A FIELD ENGINEER FROM JEEP. THE ENGINEER ASSESSED THE JEEP ON THAT FRIDAY AND TOOK PHOTOS FOR CORPORATE. AFTER ~5 DAYS, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT AT JEEP CORPORATE WHO INFORMED ME THAT, INDEED, THE ISSUE THAT I HAVE BEEN ATTESTING FOR THE PAST FOUR MONTHS WAS A CRITICAL ISSUE AND DID INVOLVE BRAKE CALIPERS AND ROTORS THAT WERE FUSED TOGETHER AND COULD LEAD TO A "FIRE AND POSSIBLY AND ACCIDENT" AFTER A RUDE CONVERSATION WITH THE AGENT WHO INDICATED THAT I "WAS PISSY", THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT IN ORDER TO RECEIVE REPAIRS, I WOULD NEED TO REMOVE ANY LIABILITY FORM JEEP BY VERBALLY AUTHORIZING THE REPAIR. THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION REGARDING THE CASE. SINCE THEN, JEEP HAS HELD MY VEHICLE AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY UPDATES. THE DEALERSHIP THAT HAS MY VEHICLE AND ALL SUPPORTING AREAS ARE BOUND TO CONFIDENTIALITY TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT AND I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR 8 DAYS. MOST INTRIGUINGLY, I HAVE A SERVICE CONTRACT THAT COVERS THIS ISSUE AND JEEP REFUSES TO REPAIR THE ISSUE, INDICATING THAT THIS IS A LEGAL ISSUE AND A MEMBER OF THEIR TEAM "WILL RETURN MY CALL" WHICH I HEAR EVERY DAY. FROM THIS, I HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE THAT JEEP REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND LEAVES ME NO RECOURSE THAN TO EXPLORE OTHER AVENUES TO GET MY CAR BACK (REPAIRED) AND TO FOLLOW-THROUGH ON THEIR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS FOR A SAFE CAR. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 55-60 MPH, DRIVER DEPRESSED BRAKES TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN TO AVOID THE CAR IN FRONT WHICH HAD SLOWED AND WAS TURNING. REAR BRAKES ON VEHICLE LOCKED CAUSING VEHICLE TO SCREECH, TIRES TO SMOKE AND VEHICLE TO SPIN AROUND IN A CIRCLE AND CROSS CENTER LINE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS A CLEAN, DRY HIGHWAY AT APPROX 5:45 PM. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN THE AREA BESIDES THE ONE IN FRONT. HAD AN AUTOMOBILE BEEN BEHIND THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE SCENE. ABS LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE INCIDENT, BUT DID NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE NEXT TIME ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER. ABS LIGHT WAS NOT ON PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN OPERATED SINCE IT WAS RE-STARTED 2 HOURS AFTER INCIDENT AND DRIVEN ABOUT 6 MILES HOME. *TR

2005 JEEP LIBERTY LTD , WAS HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS. IT WAS SHIMMYING ETC, WHEN I PUT ON BRAKES AND AT TIMES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAVE OWNED 3 JEEPS IN MY LIFE TIME AND NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. I HAVE A $3000 REPAIR TO MY CAR BECAUSE OF BRAKE FAILURE, PLUS THE AIRBAGS DID NOT COME OUT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL DOES NOT DISENGAGE FROM THE PARKED POSITION; THEREFORE, IT CAUSED THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR TO OVERHEAT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR SEVERAL TIMES; HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. EACH TIME THE FAILURE RECURS, THE ROTOR AND BRAKE PAD ARE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IF HE IS UNHAPPY WITH THE DEALER, HE SHOULD GO TO ANOTHER DEALER. THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THE BRAKES ON MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY FAILED IN A MALL PARKING LOT AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. ONLY 1-1/2 MONTHS EARLIER I HAD REAR BRAKES REPLACED AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE DEALERSHIP (MILEAGE WAS 25,000 MILES). THE DEALERSHIP NEAR THE ACCIDENT SITE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (TWICE), AND THEY SAID THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE SINCE THE ACCIDENT; FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES OR PEDESTRIANS AROUND. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN BRAKING THAT IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE SLIPPING. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. CONTACTED JEEP COMPLAINT LINE AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO BECAUSE I HAVE NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE THERE IS A PROBLEM. I STOPPED AT THE DEALERSHIP A THIRD TIME, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT COULD BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND UNLESS THEY ARE DRIVING IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, THEY CANNOT HELP ME. CONSEQUENTLY, THERE WAS $3,300 DAMAGE DONE TO MY JEEP AND I AM NOT SURE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. I HAD TO PAY $500 DEDUCTIBLE, $100 FOR A RENTAL, AND MY INSURANCE RATES WILL SURELY RISE. *TR

IT HAD SEIZED THE LEFT REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND A PISTON IN THE CALIPER WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED MAKING THE BRAKE UNABLE TO UNLOCK PROPERLY ANT THAT IS WHERE THE GRINDING NOISE WAS COMING FROM... THE CALIPER WAS DAMAGED AND THE CALIPER AS WELL AS THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED ... (ALL PARTS WERE RECOVERED) THE LEFT REAR WHEEL HAD RUST DAMAGE DUE TO THE FLAKING OF THE BRAKE PARTS ... WHEN THESE THINGS WERE EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER HE ADVISED THAT THE CALIPER WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT I WOULD HAVE TO CALL CHRYLSER TO GET A REFUND... WHEN I CALLED CHRYLSER AND SPOKE W/ KATHY (SENIOR STAFF AGENT) AND STEVEN(FLOOR SUPERVISOR) @ 800-521-9922- THEY REFUSED TO BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED ...SAYING A CHRYSLER DEALER WAS THE ONLY ONES WHO WOULD BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM PROPERLY ... THEY WOULD NEED ONE OF THEIR CERTIFIED TECH'S TO WITNESS THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM... 2005 JEEP LIBERTY EXHIBITS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WHEN BACKING UP AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT WHEN THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 50 DEGREES F. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN A SHORT DISTANCE, THE NOISE DISAPPEARS. THIS NOISE FIRST APPEARED TO BE THE REAR AXLE BUT AFTER OWNER HUNG OUT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE ANOTHER PERSON WAS DRIVING IT BACKWARDS, IT IS COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES AND DISCS. HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE INTO JEEP 3 TIMES TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED. THE FIRST TIME THEY DIDN'T EVEN LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY DID NOT HEAR IT. THE SECOND TIME, THEY HEARD IT BUT COULD NOT FIND IT. THE THIRD TIME, THEY WERE DIRECTED TO THE REAR BRAKES BY THE OWNER AND THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP APPEARS TO NOT KNOW THESE VEHICLES VERY WELL. SINCE THIS IS IN TEXAS, WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR COLDER FALL TEMPS AND OWNER WILL LIKELY HAVE TO FIX SINCE DEALERSHIP IS CONFUSED. *JB

THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER FREE OF CHARGE, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, THE PEDAL MUST BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED V-6 PURCHASED JULY 18, 2005, SERVICE DATE AUG. 24, 2005, MILEAGE 758 MILES. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN GENTLY UNDER MILD CONDITIONS SINCE PURCHASE, 10 MILES EACH WAY TO WORK ON SURFACE STREETS. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. OWNER BECAME AWARE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, IDLING AND FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AFTER 30-60 SECONDS BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY SINKS TO THE FLOOR. ORANGE LIGHT UNDER BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHTS UP WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "TYPE 43". DEALER HAS CAR AND IS REPLACING BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, WHICH WAS FOUND TO BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED BUT A DEFECTIVE OEM PART. THE DEALER HAS BEEN COOPERATIVE SO FAR. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A NEW CAR HAVING A MALFUNCTION WITH LESS THAN 800 MILES ON IT. THE POINT OF A NEW CAR IS NOT HAVING TO WORRY. ALSO GAS MILEAGE IS SUBSTANTIALLY UNDER THE ADVERTISED RATE. STICKER SAYS 17 CITY, 22 HIGHWAY, AVERAGE HAS BEEN 12.5 MPG DRIVING SURFACE STREETS, 20 MILES PER DAY RT.
