MY CAR HORN RANDOMLY HONKS ON ITS OWN AT VARIOUS TIMES. I HAD LOGGED THE INCIDENTS FOR OVER A MONTH TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY SIMILARITIES AMONG THE INCIDENTS AND THERE WERE NONE. SPEED, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, TURNING VS STRAIGHT DRIVING ALL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THE HORN WILL HONK SHORT BURSTS AS WELL AS LONG HONKS THAT WILL STOP WHEN I PUSH THE STEERING WHEEL HORN BUTTON. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN IN A PARKING LOT OR AT A STOP LIGHT IT GOES OFF AND PEOPLE THINK I AM DOING IT. I AM VERY AFRAID THAT IT WILL CAUSE A ROAD RAGE INCIDENT/ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES AND MY MECHANIC ONCE. NEITHER HAVE FOUND ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DIAGNOSTICS THAT WERE RUN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT FWD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT LUNGED FORWARD INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO MOVE WHILE THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 11,500.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY JEEP PATRIOT TODAY. SHE NOTICED SOME SMOKE IN THE CABIN & PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER & GOT OUT JUST IN TIME. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPT GOT THERE, 10 MIN OR SO, THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED & IT BURNED TO THE GROUND. IT WAS A 2007 WITH 12,000 MI ON IT & WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL UP UNTIL TODAY. SHE SAID SHE SMELLED A LITTLE ELECTRICAL SMOKE ( LIKE BURNING PLASTIC)JUST BEFORE & THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR
OUR CAR IS SHUTTING OFF ON US WHILE WE ARE DRIVING IT. WE HAVE COME CLOSE TO SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BOTH ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO A "CERTIFIED JEEP DEALER" SEVERAL TIMES. TO WHICH THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. I DON 'T KNOW IF IT IS THIS NEW MODEL OR WHAT THE CAUSE IS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST SEVEN YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.
WHEN PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, AT A SLIGHT INCLINE, IN THE RAIN, THE CAR LEAKS RAIN. THE WATER FILLS THE REAR CEILING LAMP AND THEN SPILLS OUT INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL OCCURS, THE WELL FOR THE SPARE TIRE HAS FILLED WITH SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER. THIS HAS CREATED A SITUATION FOR MOLD TO GROW, A MILDEWY SMELL, AND I HAVE CONCERN ABOUT THE WATER IN THE LAMP. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP AFTER FIRST OCCURANCE AND WAS "FIXED", BUT DURING THE NEXT STORM, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT'S CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIR FOR THE SECOND TIME. FIRST OCCURANCE: 12/18/07 SECOND OCCURANCE: 1/5/08. *CN
STARTED AS ACCELERATOR "FLAT SPOT."UNDER VERY LIGHT ACCELERATION (INTERMITTENT)ENGINE WILL FAIL TO RESPOND AND SOMETIMES STAY AT A LOW RPM OR STALL. I HAVE TO RELEASE PEDAL AND REAPPLY OR RESTART THE ENGINE. NOW PROBLEM IS MORE OBVIOUS WITH RAIN CAUSING ROUGH ENGINE IDLE, ERRATIC IDLE SPEED AND ENGINE STALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS WHEN IT WAS PLACED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED BACK INTO DRIVE AND THEN SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK ONCE AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,070 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY JEEP PATRIOT HAS STALLED/CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IT. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY VEHICLE STALLED ON ME, IT BEGAN TO SHAKE A BIT BEFORE IT TURNED OFF. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK ON, I HAD TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON. UNFORTUNATELY, I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE SINCE 2007 AND WE ARE IN 2013. I HAVE TAKEN THE SUV TO JEEP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER LEAVING IT FOR OVER A WEEK. LAST WEEK, I WAS MAKING A U-TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED ON ME ONCE AGAIN. I DREW THE LINE AND I'M READY TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION. MY LIFE WAS SUDDENLY IN DANGER AS I HAD A VEHICLE APPROACHING ME AT OVER 40MPH. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO GET THESE VEHICLES OFF THE STREET. THE WORST PART IS THAT JEEP GAVE ME A LIFETIME POWER TRAIN WARRANTY BUT SINCE THEY ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD TO LIVE WITH THIS HORRIBLE VEHICLE AND THE WORST SERVICE THAT JEEP OFFERS. *JS
SINCE THE FIRST YEAR THAT I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, THE ENGINE HAS STALLED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING! THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT NOTICE, NO LIGHTS GO ON, NOT DURING BAD WEATHER, ETC. THIS HAS HAPPENED 10-12 TIMES OVER THE PAST 4.5 YEARS; SOMETIMES AT SLOW SPEEDS BUT A FEW TIMES ON THE FREEWAYS! EACH TIME I CONTACT CHRYSLER OR MY JEEP DEALERSHIP AND HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 6-7 TIMES FOR WEEKS ON END AND EACH TIME THEY "CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM" AND SEND IT BACK HOME WITH ME WITH NO RESULTS. THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SIMPLY TELLS ME TO WORK WITH MY DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP KEEPS MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND THE SAME THINGS HAPPENS WEEKS OR MONTHS LATER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD WHICH COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES OR FATALITIES AND JEEP DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE OR KNOW HOW TO FIX THEIR OWN FAULTY VEHICLE. IF I WASN'T STILL PAYING FOR THIS CAR I WOULD NEVER SET FOOT IN IT AGAIN BUT THUS FAR, I AM STUCK IN A DEATH TRAP OF A VEHICLE NOT KNOWING WHEN THE NEXT TIME WILL BE THAT I AM DRIVING AND MY CAR SHUTS DOWN. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS YESTERDAY 01/17/2012 AT APROX. 30 MPH. I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS CAR AND ITS MANUFACTURERS AND THIER LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY. FROM READING THIS SITE AND OTHER JEEP FORUMS, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. MANY OTHER PATRIOT OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS AND JEEP HAS NOT HELPED ANY OF US. I HAVE KEPT ALL INCIDENTS WELL DOCUMENTED IN THE UNFORTUNATE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT SO THAT I HAVE A CHANCE TO PERSUE LEGAL OPTIONS AND FINALLY HOLD CHRYSLER ACCOUNTABLE.
2007 JEEP PATRIOT - COMPLETE ENGINE/ELECTRICS STALL. DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET AND ALL THE ELECTRONICS AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. COASTED INTO A SIDE STREET, STOPPED, AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. IT TOOK ABOUT 2-3 TURNS OF THE KEY TO START THE PATRIOT BACK UP. HAPPENED AROUND THE 3K MILE MARK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CANNOT BE MANUALLY DEACTIVATED. HE STATED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AND HE ASSUMED THAT HIS TAIL LIGHTS WERE AS WELL. HE HAS BEEN DRIVING WITH NO TAIL LIGHTS ACTIVATED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 300.
THE DAY AFTER MY JEEP WAS PURCHASED, IT WOULD NOT START. WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS, BUT THEN THE CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. IT WOULD ALWAYS A CUT BACK ON THOUGH. NOW IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. THE ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN CHANGED AND SO HAS THE BATTERY, BUT THE CAR STILL WILL NOT EVEN START WITH A JUMP. *TR
WHISTLING SOUND WHEN AIR IS ON (NOT NECESARILY AC). HIGH PITCHED WHISTLING SOUND IS EVIDENT ANY TIME AIR IS BLOWING ON HIGHEST OR NEXT TO HIGHEST SETTING. A LITTLE ANNOYING... SOMETIMES ENOUGH TO MOVE IT TO A LOWER SETTING JUST TO REDUCE WHISTLING SOUND.
JUNE 26, 2007 PURCHASED NEW 2007 JEEP PATRIOT, AND ON JUNE 29, 2007 -WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID BEGAN SPRAYING ERRATICALLY . ALSO, WHEN NOT ENGAGED, HEADLIGHTS LIGHTS DIDN'T ALWAYS COME ON, AND SOMETIMES UNABLE TO DISENGAGE HIGH BEAMS. JULY 1 - TOOK IT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE JULY 2 - CONTACTED BY DEALER WHO SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, BUT WHEN WE PICKED IT UP THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL AND THE LIGHTS ONLY CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY....LEFT AT DEALER JULY 3 - CONTACTED BY DEALER WHO SAID THAT THERE WAS A TSB THAT THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY UNAWARE OF AND THAT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BY "RESETTING A BUTTON"...WE PICKED UP CAR AND 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD WASHER FLUID BEGAN TO SPRAY ERRATICALLY SO THAT WE COULD NOT SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD...WASHER FLUID WOULD NOT TURN OFF UNTIL CAR WAS TURNED OFF...DEALER PICKED CAR UP AGAIN JULY 6 - CONTACTED BY DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY HAD REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AND THAT THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP...PICKED UP CAR AND CHECKED FUNCTION OF THE WASHER FLUID - DID NOT WORK AT ALL. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE DEALER. WE FEEL THAT THESE ISSUES ARE A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT SEE OUT OF THE WINDOWN WHEN THE WASHER FLUID ENGAGED SPONTANEOUSLY, AND THE LIGHTS ARE ERRATIC. *AK
FAILURE OF STONE GUARD CAUSING DAMAGE TO A/C CONDENSER ON A "TRAIL RATED" SUV, TRUCK IS 80 DAYS OLD . *AK
I BOUGHT MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT THE END OF MAY OF 2007 AND IT STARTED LEAKING FROM THE DOME LIGHT THE FIRST RAIN WE HAD...A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AT FIRST TO GET IT FIXED SINCE THE LEAKING KEPT RECURRING AND IT WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE TUBING END WAS CRUSHED AND TWISTED WAS THE FIRST DIAGNOSIS. I LOST FAITH IN HAVING THE PROBLEM FIXED. I DEALT WITH THE LEAKING DOME LIGHT BUT NOW OTHER ISSUES HAVE ADDED TO THE DISAPPOINTMENT. WATER NOT ONLY POURS OUT OF THE DOME LIGHT BUT LEAKS INTO SPARE TIRE, CARPET IN BACK SEAT AREA, ON MY SHOULDER FROM PLASTIC BORDER AROUND SUNROOF, AND LITTLE SQUARES OF PLASTIC ON BARS ON BOTH SIDES OF WINDSHIELD. I HAD TO BUY A STEAM CLEANER TO BOTH EXTRACT WATER FROM CARPET/SPARE TIRE SPACE AND ALSO CLEAN THE CARPET. THERE IS SO MUCH LEAKING WATER THAT I HEAR WATER WAVES IN THE BACK AS I DRIVE. I JUST BROUGHT MY JEEP IN THIS WEEK (7/15/13) TO ADDRESS ALL THE LEAKING ISSUES. THEY REPLACED A SEAL AROUND MY 3RD BRAKE LIGHT AND CLEANED MY CARPET. JUST DROVE MY CAR (7/20/13) AFTER A BUNCH OF RAIN LAST NIGHT AND WATER POURED FROM THE DOME LIGHT, DRIPPED ON MY SHOULDER, AND SOME IS IN THE SPARE TIRE AREA. THE CARPET WAS DRY THIS TIME. I WILL HAVE TO BRING MY CAR IN AGAIN NEXT WEEK. I IMAGINE THEY WILL TELL ME I NEED A NEW SUNROOF WHICH I AM NOT CONFIDENT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. THE SUNROOF WAS NEW WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND IT LEAKED SO WHY SHOULD I REPLACE IT ONLY TO PROBABLY HAVE MORE LEAKING AND DEBT. I DON'T HAVE A COVERED AREA TO STORE MY CAR NOR SHOULD I HAVE TO DO SO. I HAVE REPLIED TO JEEP'S REQUEST FOR INPUT ON MY JEEP PATRIOT AND SERVICE VIA SURVEY BUT FEEL LIKE IT IS A WASTE OF MY TIME. I THINK EVERYONE AT THE DEALER IS TRAINED TO RESPOND TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT OF WATER LEAKS WITH A COMMENT SUCH AS, "YEAH, SUNROOFS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR WATER LEAK ISSUES." DRYING UP WATER IS VERY DISTRACTING TO DO WHEN DRIVING. *TR
THIS IS A ONE-OWNER 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4WD WITH 86000 MILES. THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT. THE DEALER HAS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE FAILURE. OF COURSE THE 3/36 WARRANTY IS UP! DEALER SAYS THEY CAN ONLY REPLACE AT A COST OF $4500. HOW CAN A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 86000 MILES NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION! *TR
THE CAR STALLED OUT SINCE THE FIRST DAY I BOUGHT IT (JAN. 1, 2008). IT IS NOW AUGUST 2014 AND I STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM, EXCEPT NOW IT'S A MUCH MORE DANGEROUS AND BIGGER PROBLEM. IF I GO SLOW OR STOP TO TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, IT STALLS OUT. I ALMOST GOT HIT/KILLED TODAY. THE TERRIBLE PART ABOUT IT IS THAT I'VE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS FROM DAY 1. EVERY TIME I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CAN NEVER FIND THE PROBLEM. I JUST TRIED CALLING CHRYSLER AND THEY ARE TELLING ME I'VE ONLY TAKEN IT IN ONCE FOR THIS ISSUE, WHICH IS NOT TRUE AT ALL.. EVEN IF IT WAS JUST ONCE, THEY STILL DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM SO THEY "COULD NOT FIX IT." *TR
