I HAVE TAKEN MY 2009 JEEP PATRIOT TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, AND FOR A 3RD TIME ON MONDAY. IT LEAKS THROUGH MY MAP LIGHTS AND ON THE INTERIOR SIDES OF MY VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEAKAGE ON SEVERAL LEVELS! ALSO BECAUSE THE LEAK RUNS DOWN ON MY STEREO. PLUS, THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN DRIVING SO I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE WATER GETTING INTO MY ELECTRIC THINGS WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE!! THERE IS ALSO LEAKAGE DISCOVERED NOW IN THE REAR GATE! THE DEALER HAS "CORRECTED" THIS TWICE NOW AND HOPEFULLY WILL ATTEMPT IT AGAIN ON MONDAY! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VALVE STEM MADE BY SIEMENS, MODEL VDO, CRACKED WHILE HE WAS PUTTING AIR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE, CAUSING IT TO DEFLATE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,580.
2009 JEEP PATRIOT: MANUAL GEAR CLUTCH FAILURE AT 14,000 MILES AND 14 MONTHS SINCE NEW. WARRANTY EXPIRES ON THIS ITEM AT 12,000 MILES AND 12 MONTHS. THE JEEP WAS NOT DRIVEN AGGRESSIVELY OR OFF ROAD. A CLUTCH SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER. I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER / JEEP WARRANTY DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST, DEALER INSTALLED NEW CLUTCH FOR $1,060.00. I BELIEVE THE CLUTCH IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH OR IS SUBSTANDARD FOR THIS VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A STRONGER ONE AT NO CHARGE. *TR
ROOF LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS. IT HAS DONE THIS THREE TIMES WITH A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WATER LEAKING THROUGH THE MAP LIGHT. FIRST LEAK IN SEPTEMBER 2010 LAST LEAK WAS 3/1/11. *TR
ROOF LEAKS WATER COMES OUT OF DOME LIGHTS DURING STORMS. DEALER HAS REPLACED SUNROOF AND ROOF STILL LEAKS. *TR
DURING AN OVERNIGHT RAIN, WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE FROM THE SUNROOF, EFFECTING THE DOME LIGHT, WHERE WATER WAS DRIPPING FROM. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. EACH TIME THE DEALER CLAIMS TO HAVE FIXED IT. IT RECURS ABOUT EVERY 10 MOS.,AFTER A HEAVY RAINFALL. IT CAUSES MOLD AND MILDEW ON THE ROOF LINER, WHICH IS UNHEALTHY, AND WATER THROUGH THE DOME LIGHT, CAN EASILY CAUSE A SHORT AND POSSIBLE FIRE. THIS SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST, BUT AS OF YET NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN FILED, BY OWNERS OF THE PATRIOT AS WELL AS OTHER JEEP VEHICLES. *TR
2009 JEEP PATRIOT SUNROOF LEAK - AFTER A HEAVY RAIN I GOT IN MY CAR AND WHEN I DROVE OFF WATER POURED FROM MY MAP LIGHTS. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THE CLEANED THE DRAIN LINES. ABOUT A WEEK LATER WE HAD ANOTHER STORM AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND UNTIL IT RAINS AGAIN I WILL NOT KNOW IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. *CN
WHEN FRONT SEATS ARE PUSHED BACK FULLY THERE ARE RAZOR SHARP METAL RAILS EXPOSED. THERE ARE PLASTIC COVERS INSTALLED THAT ARE EQUALLY SHARP AND CATCH ON SOES, CLOTHING AND SKIN. BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE DRAWN BLOOD ON OUR SHINS SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE WITH JEEP AND THEY ADVISE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING I COULD HEAR WATER SWISHING WHEN MAKING A TURN, THEN HOT WATER CAME POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD. WHITE PLAINS CHRYSLER SAID THERE WAS A KINK IN THE HOSE FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING AND WATER HAD COLLECTED THERE THUS HEATING UP AND EXPANDED AND CAME OUT BURNING MY FOOT WHILE ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING. EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD WHEN PARK ON A HILL. *TR
REPEATED HESITATION, AND POPPING OUT OF GEAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE FOR THE ISSUE, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUES. THE GEAR SHIFTER POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR, AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE WHEN DOING CLUTCH AND GAS FROM A STAND STILL. THE GAS PEDAL, AND ENGINE RESPONSE LAGS, AND BUCKS ON OCCASION, WITH OUT SETTING A CODE. THESE COMBINED MAKE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC DANGEROUS. *TR
IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE 2009 JEEP PATRIOT AN INTERIOR WATER LEAK WAS DISCOVERED. I HAVE A RECEIPT FOR VISITS TO DEALER ON 11/3/09 WITH 2282 MILES ON IT. NEXT VISIT WAS 11/17/2009. ANOTHER VISIT ON 1/6/10 WITH 5790 MILES ON IT. ANOTHER VISIT ON 9/14/10 AT 12170 MILES. YET ANOTHER VISIT ON 9/24/10 AT 12435 MILES. AGAIN ON 12/7/10 AT 14897. I KNOW THERE WERE A COUPLE OF OTHER VISITS AND I AM AWAITING PRINT OUT FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER OVER 7 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. EVERYTIME THEY SAY IT IS FIXED ONLY TO DISCOVER IT IS STILL LEAKING. THEY HAVE SEALED, CAULKED, CHECK DRAIN TUBES, ETC. THEY HAVE REPLACED HEADLINER TOO. WATER COMES INTO THE OVERHEAD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND RUNS OUT OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS LIKE A FAUCET OR WATERFALL. WATER PONDS ON THE REAR CARGO AREA AND THIS AREA IS COMPLETELY SOAKED. WATER IS EVEN DOWN IN SPARE WHEEL STORAGE. WATER COMES FROM ALL OVERHEAD LIGHTS DEPENDING ON PITCH OF VEHICLE. UNKNOWN IF WATER IS RUNNING DOWN INTERIOR SIDES OF VEHICLE OR WHERE ELSE WATER IS POOLING. CONCERNED ABOUT MOLD, RUST, WATER DAMAGE, ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, ETC., THAT ARE BEING CAUSED BY WATER ENTERING VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP HAS "FIXED" IT NUMEROUS TIMES ONLY TO NOT HAVE IT FIXED. VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR RETURN VISIT TO DEALER FOR ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT FIXING THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COVERED BY WARRANTY BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE LONGTERM DAMAGE AND REPAIRS NEEDED AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THE DAMAGE THE WATER IS CAUSING TO MY VEHICLE. SERVICE TECHS SAY DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE WATER, BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT ON AUGUST 1ST AND AFTER IT RAINS I HAVE WATER POURING FROM THE DOME LIGHT AS I APPROACH A STOP SIGN. WELL, I NEARLY RAN INTO SOME ONE DUE TO THE WATER RAINING DOWN ON ME. I HAVE GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND TO MY DISMAY, NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM TO THE POINT OF ENACTING STATE LEMON LAWS. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT REALLY NEEDS ATTENTION. *TR
THE SUNROOF LEAK HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE WE BOUGHT THE JEEP, NEW. IT'S BEEN "REPAIRED" SEVERAL TIMES. THEY BLOW OUT THE DRAIN LINES AND TELL US NOT TO PARK NEAR ANY TREES. THEN I TAKE IT TO THE CARWASH AND IT LEAKS AGAIN. THEY TELL US NOT TO SPRAY THE WATER TO DIRECT AT THE ROOF. WATER GUSHING THROUGH MY DOME LIGHT HAS WASHED DOWN THROUGH THE DASH CONSOLE AND NOW MY HANDS FREE (U-CONNECT) IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE SERVICE DEPT, CHARGED ME TO LOOK AT IT AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT. IT'S STILL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. ALL THE CONSOLE BUTTONS ARE STICKING. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE JEEP HAD A WARRANTY PACKAGE. NOW THAT IT'S NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY CHARGE ME TO "PUT A BANDAID" ON IT AND TELL ME STAY OUT OF THE WOODS... WITH MY JEEP!!!! WHEN IS CHRYSLER GOING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS? *TR
2009 JEEP PATRIOT WATER COLLECTS IN THE REAR INSIDE DOME LIGHT AND LEAKS OUT ONTO THE INTERIOR FLOOR. OCCURS WHEN IT RAINS AND WHEN HAVING THE VEHICLE WASHED. SOMEHOW WATER GETS INTO THE INTERIOR REAR LIGHT. DEALER HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. VEHICLE IS NOW AT DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION AND HOPEFULLY AT SOLUTION. PREVIOUS RETURNS TO THE DEALER RESULTED IN APPLYING SILICONE AROUND THE SMALL HOSE AND OPENING SURROUNDING IT IN THE RIDGE ABOVE THE TAILGATE OPENING. LIFTING THE TAILGATE EXPOSES THE AREA WHERE THE GATE MEETS OR OVERLAPS THE VEHICLE. WHILE THIS MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED A "SAFETY" HAZARD, IT IS VERY DISHEARTENING TO BUY A BRAND NEW VEHICLE ONLY TO FIND IT LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS. WORSE YET, NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY OR WHERE THE WATER IS COMING FROM. IT COULD POSE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE WATER GETS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM...AS ALREADY SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN PLACE...THE LIGHT BELONGS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ONE OF MY FEARS LEAVING IT TO BE INVESTIGATED IS THAT THE PARTS REMOVED TO FIND THE LEAK MAY NOT GO BACK AS GOOD AS NEW. *TR
NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH WATER LEAKING THROUGH THE DOME LIGHT AND ONTO ALL ELECTRICAL PANELS ON THE DASHBOARD. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALER WHO CLAIMED THEY CLEANED THE SUNROOF DRAINAGE TUBES BUT THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE LEAK PROBLEM. JEEP REFUSES TO COVER THIS PROBLEM UNDER TERMS OF WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER LEAKING IN THROUGH THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE LEAK WOULD CAUSE MOLD TO GROW INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE LEAKS AT THE REAR INTERIOR LIGHT AFTER A PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIRS SEVERAL TIMES. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO REPLICATE LEAK. NO REPAIRS MADE UNTIL MOST RECENT INCIDENT IN 1/2013 - LIGHT IS BEING REPLACED AND OVERHEAD LINING IS ALSO BEING REPLACED. YET TO DETERMINE IF REPAIRS WILL FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 JEEP PATRIOT IN DECEMBER OF 2008, SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR I'VE ONLY PUT 7200 MILES ON THAT CAR AND HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR WHAT FEELS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THEY SAID IT WAS THE AIR BOX, PROBLEM SOLVED...ABOUT 1,000 MILES LATER THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR RETURNED. THESE PROBLEMS BEING, LOSS OF POWER ON ACCELERATION, INTERMITTENT LOSS OF ENGINE POWER UPHILL, NEAR STALLS IN REVERSE. WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, THE RPMS RED-LINE FOR ME TO GET ENOUGH BEHIND THE CAR TO MOVE. *TR
BLOWOUT OCCURRED IN SIDEWALL OF TIRE. WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON STATE ROUTE 8 IN STOW, OHIO, BETWEEN ROUTE 303 AND STEELES CORNER ROAD. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS 90 F. SPEED WAS 55 MPH. ROAD SURFACE WAS ROUGH; SURFACE LAYER OF PAVEMENT HAD BEEN REMOVED TO PREPARE FOR RESURFACING. NO CURB, DEBRIS, OR OTHER ROAD HAZARDS WERE PRESENT. *TR

1. RAINED OUTSIDE 2. FAILURE IS OF CHRYSLER'S NONEXISTENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT, POOR PRODUCT, AND ENGINEERING. PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED, PLEASE GO TO WWW.JEEPPATRIOT.COM, SEARCH FORUM FOR "WATER LEAK." SUNROOF DRAIN TUBES "CLEANED" SAID BY DEALERSHIP, BUT I HAVE USED MY SUNROOF MAYBE 3 TIMES IN MY 9 + MONTHS OF OWNING THIS CAR, AND THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND PERSISTENT. THERE IS NO REASON, ABSOLUTELY ZERO WHY DRAIN TUBES SHOULD BE CLOGGED. ITS NEVER OPEN... *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 JEEP PATRIOT IN DECEMBER OF 2008, SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR I'VE ONLY PUT 7200 MILES ON THAT CAR AND HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR WHAT FEELS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THEY SAID IT WAS THE AIR BOX, PROBLEM SOLVED...ABOUT 1,000 MILES LATER THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR RETURNED. WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, THE RPMS RED-LINE FOR ME TO GET ENOUGH BEHIND THE CAR TO MOVE. *TR
WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2009, WATER CAME IN THROUGH THE MAP LIGHT AND ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE PILLAR AFTER FIRST RAIN. RETURNED TO DEALER WHO REPLACED THE SEAL BUT PROBLEM RE-SURFACED DURING NEXT RAIN. WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO CLEARED THE DRAIN LINES WHICH SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH, FOR A NEW VEHICLE, IT SEEMS ODD THE DRAINS WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOGGED. DID NOT OBSERVE ANY ELECTRICAL ISSUES AS OTHERS HAVE INDICATED EXCEPT FOR THE LED FLASHLIGHT IN THE CARGO AREA DYING. THIS WAS REPLACED BY DIED AGAIN (POSSIBLY THE RE-CHARGING MECHANISM HAD BEEN CORRUPTED BY THE LEAK?) BUT I DO NOT USE THE LIGHT SO DID NOT PURSUE FURTHER. WINTER OF 2012-13 (AFTER 3 YEAR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED), SAME LEAK RE-APPEARED WHENEVER WOULD HAVE PRECIPITATION AND FREEZING TEMPERATURES FOLLOWED BY A THAW. SINCE IT DIDN'T OCCUR DURING "NORMAL" PRECIPITATION AND BEING IN THE SOUTH WHERE WE DON'T HAVE FREEZES VERY OFTEN, DID NOT SEEK REPAIR. QUOTED $100-$300 FROM ALL DEALERS IN AREA SAYING THE DRAIN LINES CANNOT SIMPLY BE BLOWN OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR SINCE THE PRESSURE CAN DISCONNECT THEM AND INSTEAD THEY MUST REMOVE THE HEAD LINER AND CLEAR THEM MANUALLY. WHILE TRAVELING IN JULY OF 2013, EXPERIENCED HEAVY RAIN WHILE VEHICLE PARKED LEVEL OR FACING UP ON AN INCLINE (AT HOME, NORMALLY PARK SLIGHTLY FACING DOWN ON AN INCLINE) AND LEAKS WERE MUCH WORSE WITH DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD LINER BECOMING WET. THIS INDICATED THE REAR DRAINS WERE THE ONES CLOGGED. I RARELY USE THE SUNROOF, HAVE NEVER LEFT IT OPEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD AND ESPECIALLY AVOID OPENING IT DURING THE HEAVY POLLEN SEASONS OF THE SOUTH, SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE DRAINS CAN GET CLOGGED AND WHY THEY CANNOT EASILY BE CLEARED (THIS SEEMS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHENEVER HE DROVE IT. THE NOISE WAS INTERMITTENT AT FIRST BUT BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. IN ADDITION TO THE NOISE, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHERE THE BUSHINGS, A SENSOR, FRONT STRUT AND A LOWER BALL JOINT WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
