AFTER I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED AND WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SEVERELY SHIMMY. IT OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO STOP WAS TO DECELERATE. I HAD THE DAMPENER AND TIRES REPLACED (THEY WERE WORN UNEVENLY) TODAY. I HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE LONG TERM. THERE ARE MANY ANECDOTAL REFERENCES ON GOOGLE CONCERNING THIS BEING A MAJOR PROBLEM (GOOGLE SEARCH WRANGLER "DEATH WOBBLE." ) ONE STORY INDICATED THAT THERE WERE A LIMITED NUMBER OF FORMAL COMPLAINTS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE I ADDED A COMPLAINT AS THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT FOR AN UNSUSPECTING DRIVER. I WILL UPDATE THE RESULT OF THE REPAIR IN TERMS OF WHETHER IT RESOLVES THE INCIDENT OR NOT. *JS
AT SPEEDS IN THE RANGE OF 45-50MPH, AND USUALLY AROUND 47MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEELS WILL VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND WOBBLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE ONLY WAY TO RECOVER IS TO EITHER SPEED UP OR SLOW DOWN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEPS AS THERE ARE YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF THE JEEP "DEATH WOBBLE". IT BECOMES VERY SERIOUS AND COULD CAUSE A PERSON TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, AND SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS. *TR
DRIVING OVER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, MAN HOLE COVERS, POT HOLES, EXPANSION JOINTS IN CONCRETE, OR ANY RIPPLES IN THE ROAD SURFACE, WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS "DEATH WOBBLE" OCCURS. THIS IS AN UNCONTROLLABLE LEFT AND RIGHT PROGRESSIVE WOBBLE OF THE FRONT WHEELS. THIS WOBBLE DOES NOT STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. PARTS REPLACED HAVE BEEN THE STEERING STABILIZER, TRACK BAR BUSHINGS, PITMAN ARM AND PITMAN TIE ROD END, TIRES, TIRES BALANCED THREE TIMES (TWICE IN TWO WEEKS), ALIGNMENT PERFORMED TWICE, AND STEERING GEAR BOX ADJUSTED. TWO DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS CLAIM THE STABILIZER IS THE PROBLEM, AND THE ONE REPLACED MUST BE FAULTY. DO THE RESEARCH, THE STEERING STABILIZER IS NOT THE PROBLEM... ONLY A MASK. THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAPPENS DAILY. USUALLY MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE IT OVERFLOWS. THE FUEL ALWAYS OVERFLOWS BEFORE IT TRIGGERS THE PUMP TO STOP FUELING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL STARTED TO SPEW BACK OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK VALVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I BOUGHT A 2005 SE SPORT JEEP WRANGLER ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO. IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED VIBRATIONS INCREASING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND JUST IN THE PAST MONTH THE SHAKINGS HAVE BECOME EXTREMELY VIOLENT BETWEEN 52-60 MPH, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO PULL OVER AND STOP ON THE INTERSTATE. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND HAVE HAD THE BRAKE PAD REPLACED, NEW SHOCKS, NEW ALIGNMENT, TIRES ROTATED, TIRES BALANCED, ROTORS REPLACED AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END CHECKED. THE SHAKING IS STILL PRESENT AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP REPLACING ONE THING AT A TIME WHEN NOTHING SEEMS TO HELP. THE VIOLENT SHAKING IS OCCURRING CONSISTENTLY EVERY TIME I REACH 52 MPH NOW AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT ON THE INTERSTATE OR HAVE MY FAMILY DRIVE IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, WHERE TO GO OR WHO TO TALK TO TO HELP ME GET THIS FIXED WITHOUT COSTING ME MY ENTIRE MONTHS SALARY OR MORE. MY TIRES ALSO APPEAR TO BE WEARING WRONG DUE TO THE SHAKING, WHICH WILL COST ME MORE MONEY TO REPLACE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS "DEATH WOBBLE" AND AM FINDING THAT IT IS VERY COMMON. WE NEED SOMEONE TO HELP US SO NO ONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND SO WE AREN'T PAYING OUT OF POCKET FOR A TECHNICAL ERROR. *TR

2005 JEEP WRANGLER X, WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS AT THE PUMP, THE GAS DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN FULL AND GASOLINE SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE. *TR
FUEL OVERFLOWS OUTSIDE AND ON THE FLOOR WHEN CAR IS REFUELED. *TR
ALSO FUEL TANK OVERFLOW SHUTOFF VALVE DOES NOT WORK. WHEN FILLING UP GAS TANK, FUEL OVERFLOWS ON CAR AND PERSON PUMPING GAS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED. MULTIPLE YEARS OF JEEP WRANGLERS WERE RECALLED, INCLUDING MANY 05'S FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM.
ON MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER GAS OVER FLOWS OUT OF THE FILL TUBE EVERY TIME I GAS UP. I HAVE USED MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS WITH THE PUMPS AT MANY DIFFERENT SPEEDS. NO MATTER WHAT I DO, THE GAS ALWAYS OVERFLOWS WHEN I GAS UP. IT HAS DONE THIS SINCE I PURCHASE THE JEEP 3 YEARS AGO. I WOULD ESTIMATE ABOUT A QUART OF GASOLINE SPLASHES OUT ALL OVER ME, MY JEEP, AND ON THE GROUND. THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE AND SAFETY HAZARD. SOME THING NEEDS TO BE DONE. WHEN I LEAVE THE GAS STATION THERE IS A VISIBLE PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND BECAUSE THE FUEL BACKSTOP VALVE IN THE JEEP DOES NOT STOP THE GAS FROM SPLASHING OUT. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS AND SPLASHES OUT GAS WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GAS. IT OCCURS AT EVERY FILL UP AND AT VARIOUS GAS STATIONS/PUMPS. THE RESULT IS GAS SPLASHING AND FLOWING OUT OF THE FILLER NOZZLE POSING A FIRE HAZARD AND EXPOSURE TO A SOLVENT. THE GAS TANK WAS REMOVED AND THE VENT HOSES INSPECTED WITH NO ABNORMALITIES FOUND. *TR

WHEN REFUELING 2005 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED GAS SPILLS OUT AT COMPLETION OF FILL UP. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME VEHICLE IS REFUELED AND GAS THEN RUNS DOWN SIDE OF VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE CAR WITH FUEL AT VARIOUS GAS STATIONS OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE FUEL PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF. THIS CAUSES GASOLINE TO SPILL OUT OVER THE FILLER NECK. THE SPILL IS STRONG ENOUGH WHERE IT SPEWS BACK A FEW INCHES TOWARDS THE PERSON STANDING NEXT TO THE TANK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING FOR A SHORT WHILE AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND WAS FOUND THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK IT OVERFLOWS ALL OVER THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF ON THE GAS PUMPS DOES NOT DO ANYTHING. THE GAS PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY AND STILL OVER FLOW. SICK AND TIRED OF CONSTANTLY CLEANING GAS OFF THE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR. *TR
SPRAYS GAS OUT THE FILLER NECK WHEN THE TANK GETS FULL AND THE AUTO SHUT OFF ON THE GAS NOZZLE ACTIVATES. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL IT UP. THIS PROBLEM STARTED A LONG TIME AGO SO I JUST ESTIMATED IT STARTED AT 40,000 MILES. I NOW HAVE 70,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
6 SPEED TRANSMISSION FORKS ARE POORLY DESIGNED. VEHICLE CAN POP OUT OF 1ST GEAR STARTING AT UNDER 15K MILES. CAN LEAD TO VEHICLE ROLLING AWAY WHEN PARKED IN GEAR AS WELL AS ROLLING BACK WHEN STARTING ON HILLS. MY VEHICLE HAD THE PROBLEM ALREADY AT ABOUT 90K WHEN I BOUGHT IT. NO IDEA HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE. MANY REPORTS INDICATE THE PROBLEM CAN OCCUR IN THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION AT AS EARLY AS 15K DUE TO DESIGN. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC, AND WHILE IT IS NICE TO BE PAID TO REPLACE THESE PARTS REGULARLY, IT CAN BE A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED - THERE IS A BACK-SPLASH ISSUE WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE, EVERY TIME! IF YOU DO NOT JUST STOP IT EARLY (BEFORE IT IS FULL) IT WILL SPLASH BACK EVERY TIME YOU FUEL, SOMETIMES QUITE A BIT OF FUEL SPILLED. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL JEEP AND MOST OF THEM SAID THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS AND ASKED IF THIS WAS AN ONGOING ISSUE. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I FIND THAT UNLIKELY. *TR

THE GAS DRIPS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. WE HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT PUMPS AND DIFFERENT ANGLES TO NO AVAIL. IT IS NOT HUMAN ERROR AS WE HAVE OTHER VEHICLES THAT WE NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM AT THE SAME PUMPS WITH ANY OTHER CAR. *TR

EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO FILL THE GAS TANK ON MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER X FUEL OVERFLOWS AT THE POINT AT WHICH IT SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. ON SOME OCCASIONS ITS A SMALL AMOUNT, OTHER TIMES, ITS SPRAYS OUT FORCEFULLY AND GETS ALL OVER ME, MY JEEP, THE GROUND, AND ANYTHING ELSE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH GAS STATION I FILL UP AT, IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE. MY ONLY SOLUTION IS TO ATTEMPT TO CALCULATE HOW MUCH I CAN PUT IN MANUALLY WITHOUT TOTALLY FILLING IT UP. LOTS OF GUESSWORK INVOLVED, SOMETIMES UNSUCCESSFULLY. I SEE SPRAYING A FLAMMABLE LIQUID AROUND IN AN UNINTENDED MANNER AS A SAFETY HAZARD. SO FAR, JEEP DOES NOT SEE IT THE SAME WAY.... *TR
WHEN FILLING UP MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON GAS SPRAYS EVERYWHERE. IT WILL SPRAY EITHER ALL OVER MY CAR OR SPIT OUT AT LEAST 3-4 FEET AND HIT THE CAR NEXT TO ME. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I FILL THE GAS TANK TO FULL. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,512 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,000.
GAS OVERFLOWS / SPEWS OUT WHEN FILLING UP DUE TO BAD DESIGN OF FUEL TANK VENT SYSTEM.
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER LJ OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS. EVERYTIME THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AND THEN GAS WILL COME BACK OUT OF THE FILL OPENING. *TR

I AM AN OWNER OF A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER, AND MY TANK OVERFLOWS EVERYTIME I FILL UP THE JEEP. EVEN THOUGH THE FUEL PUMP CLICKS OFF WHEN FULL, FUEL WILL SPLASH OUT OF THE FILL NOZZLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. IT ALSO LEAKS ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

I AM EXPERIENCING A CONTINUING, DANGEROUS AND WORSENING SPRAYING OF GASOLINE WHEN I FILL THE TANK OF MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. WHEN FUELING, PUMP WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF WHEN GAS TANK IS FULL. THIS SPILLS GAS ON THE VEHICLE, OWNER, AND GROUND. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK, AN AIR POCKET IS TRAPPED AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. WHEN THE TANK BECOMES FULL, THIS AIR POCKET RUSHES TOWARDS THE NECK AND OUT TOWARDS THE PERSON FILLING UP THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME THIS OCCURS, FUEL SPEWS ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SOMETIMES SPRAYS OUTWARD ONTO THE PUMP HANDLE AND ME. THIS IS DANGEROUS NOT ONLY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, BUT FOR ME FILLING UP THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GET INTO MY EYES/FACE WHEN THE FUEL AND AIR BUBBLE RUSH OUT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND ANOTHER REPUTABLE MECHANIC, AND BOTH SAID THEY COULD PUT A NEW TANK ON, BUT THAT MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TANKS ON THE WRANGLERS HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. ALL SENSORS AND VENTS ON MY TANK ARE WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN THE FUEL TANK BECOMES FULL, THE PUMP IS SHUT OFF AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO, BUT ABOUT HALF A SECOND AFTERWARDS IS WHEN THE AIR AND FUEL SPEW OUT. I AM NOT LETTING THE VEHICLE RUN WHILE FILLING UP, NOR AM I TRYING TO TOP THE TANK OFF. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE FUEL TANK OF THIS VEHICLE AND THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY JEEP. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, AND THIS HAPPENS WHENEVER I FILL UP. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS HAPPENED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNERS OR NOT, THERE ARE MULTIPLE FORUMS ON THE INTERNET THAT STATE THAT THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF WRANGLER OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
I PURCHASED A USED 2005 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 17,000 MILES. WHEN I FILLED THE TANK, GAS WOULD GUSH OUT OF THE FILLER AND SPLASH ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY (NEW FUEL TANK), WHICH DID CORRECT THE PROBLEM. NOW, AT JUST OVER 51,000 MILES, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. EVERY TIME I FILL THE VEHICLE, THIS DANGEROUS FUEL SPILL OCCURS. I LIVE IN A VERY DRY (LOW HUMIDITY) CLIMATE, AND IT IS VERY COMMON TO GET STATIC DISCHARGE WHEN TOUCHING ANY CONDUCTIVE SURFACE. I AM FEARFUL THAT I AM GOING TO EXPERIENCE A VEHICLE FIRE IF THIS SITUATION CONTINUES. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT CAUSED A RECALL TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. *TR

MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED HAS AN OVERFILLING PROBLEM EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP AT THE GAS STATION. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I USE THE LOWEST SETTING ON THE GAS PUMP OR IF I MANUALLY USE AS LITTLE PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE, IT OVERFILLS EVERY SINGLE TIME AND GAS POURS OUT OF THE FILL SPOUT RUNNING DOWN THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, ON MY HAND, ON MY CLOTHES AND ON THE GROUND. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND AFFECTS THE 2003-2006 JEEP WRANGLER SERIES. *TR
