I HAVE A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA AND HAVE RECENTLY HAD INCREASING INCIDENTS OCCUR WHERE THE STEERING WILL WOBBLE/VIBRATE CAUSING UNCONTROLLABLE STEERING. IT IS A FEELING LIKE THE WHEELS ARE FALLING OFF OR YOU HAVE FLAT TIRES PULLING YOU FROM SIDE TO SIDE. ONCE IT STARTS THIS PROCESS, IT SEEMS TO INCREASE IN INCIDENTS AND WILL USUALLY BE TRIGGERED BY HITTING SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD, IE. CONSTRUCTION ZONE. BUT, ONCE IT OCCURS, IT WILL HAVE CONTINUED INSTANCES EVEN WHEN DRIVING OVER SLIGHTLY CURVED/UNLEVEL ROAD. I HAD TO ATTEMPT TO PULL OFF I-10 GOING 65MPH W/OUT STEERING CONTROL! ONCE SLOWED TO BELOW 30/35MPH IT SEEMS TO GET BETTER CURRENTLY, BUT CONTINUES NUMEROUS TIMES LATER. *KB
WHILE DRIVING @ APPROXIMATELY 55MPH ON RT 50 NEAR RT 28 IN FAIRFAX CO VA I FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END WHICH IMMEDIATELY BECAME A VIOLENT VIBRATION TO THE POINT I HAD TROUBLE STEERING THE VEHICLE WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND NEARLY CRASHED. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, FULLY EXPECTING TO FIND A FLAT TIRE OR WORSE, THINKING MAYBE A TIRE ACTUALLY FELL OFF. I FOUND NOTHING WRONG WHICH WAS PERPLEXING. I CONTINUED ON MY WAY WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT THAT DAY. SINCE THAT DAY I'VE HAD AT LEAST FIVE MORE INCIDENTS OF THE SAME NATURE WITH VARYING DEGREES OF NEAR MISSES REGARDING AN ACCIDENT. IT'S FRIGHTENING AND CLEARLY SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I'VE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND IT'S APPARENT THE PROBLEM IS WIDELY KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WITH MANY SUGGESTED FIXES. THE DEALER WITH WHOM I HAVE MY JEEP SERVICED HAS ACKNOWLEDGED HEARING ABOUT A FRONT END SHIMMY BUT NO DEATH WOBBLE (FAIROAKS CHRYSLER, DODGE JEEP). THEY SUGGEST REPLACING THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WITH A "HEAVY DUTY" ONE AND SAID IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE ($660.00). IRONICALLY, THE "HEAVY DUTY" STABILIZER APPEARS TO BE STOCK ON MODELS BEG. WITH THE 2010 MODEL YEAR OR AT A MINIMUM THEY HAVE CHANGED THE CONFIGURATION AND PLACEMENT OF THE STABILIZER WHICH INDICATES TO ME THEY (CHRYSLER/JEEP) CLEARLY RECOGNIZED THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I IMPLORE YOU TO INVESTIGATE THIS MOST SERIOUS DEFECT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. *KB
IN 208 I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER, WITH 11,000 MILES, AFTER DRIVING ONLY 1,000. MILES MY FRONT END STARTING WOBBLING VIOLENTLY, RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY STATED MY TIRES NEEDED TO BE ROAD FORCED BALANCE, WITHIN 3 MONTHS WHILE DRIVING TO WORK GOING ABOUT 45MPH THE TRUCK FRONT END DID THE KNOW DEATH WOBBLE, RETURNED TO THE DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD MY TIRES WERE CUPPED, PURCHASED NEW TIRES, SEEM TO ELEVATE THE PROBLEM, ONLY FOR IT TO HAPPEN SEVERAL MORE TIMES AND TWO ADDITIONAL SET OF TIRES. I AM NOW DRIVING ON A SET OF TIRES THAT IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD, AND HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, WAS ON THE INTERSTATE LAST WEEK DRIVING ABOUT 70MPH WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE MY FRONT END STARTED TO WOBBLE OUT OF CONTROL, I DID MANAGE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH BUT WAS SHIFTED INTO ANOTHER LANE, COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING, WAS LUCKY THE INTERSTATE WAS NOT BUSY, THIS COULD OF RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED ON THE SUSPENSION, THE 2010-2011 JEEPS HAVE HAD ONE SO OBVIOUSLY CHRYSLER IS AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END SUSPENSION. THIS WILL BE A COSTLY REPAIR,SO MANY DIFFERENT POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS BUT NONE ARE A GUARANTEE, SEEM TO ME CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY DESIGN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY JEEP WRANGLER WITH GAS AS SOON AS THE GAS PUMP STOPS PUMPING IT SPITS FUEL BACK OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL GAS STATIONS AND IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME. *TT
THE CHRYSLER CLOCK SPRINGS ARE FAILING ON ALMOST ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES. THERE ARE PAGES AND PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON JEEP FORUMS ALONE. THIS IS A EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. CHRYSLER WILL NOT WARRANTY THIS PART AT ANY COST. THERE NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS ITEM ASAP.
EVERY TIME I FILL MY TANK UP THE PUMP NOZZLE DOES NOT SHUT OF AUTOMATICALLY AND I GET WHAT SEEMS LIKE A HALF A GALLON OF FUEL ON THE GROUND OR ON THE SIDE OF MY JEEP. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT JEEP OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND ITS DUE TO A FAULTY ESIM SWITCH OR SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WHOLE GAS TANK ON JEEPS. *TR
WHENEVER I PUT GAS INTO MY TANK AND FILL UP, THERE IS ALWAYS AN OVERFLOW OF GASOLINE SPILLING OUT OF THE TANK AND ONTO MY JEEP AS WELL AS ONTO THE FLOOR. ASIDE FROM THE DAMAGE BEING DONE TO MY VEHICLE, THIS CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT FROM FUMES AS WELL AS RAISING THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRES. *KB
SHIFTING THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRANSFER CASE (TC) FROM 2HI TO 4HI OR 4LOW (OR IN REVERSE ORDER) CAN CAUSE THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTING CABLE (TCSC) (MOPAR PART 52060462AG) TO FAIL AND BECOME DISCONNECTED FROM EITHER THE TC OR THE SHIFT LEVER IN THE CAB (OR BOTH). THE PART''S PLASTIC COMPONENTS ARE INHERENTLY TOO WEAK TO WITHSTAND NORMAL USE. SAFETY RISKS WHICH CAN ARISE UPON COMPONENT FAILURE, IF THE VEHICLE OWNER AND THEIR FAMILY (CHILDREN) ARE AT A LOCATION AND/OR TERRAIN WHERE THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED/MARKETED FOR TRAVEL (WHETHER BY RECREATION OR NECESSITY), AND THE LOCATION/TERRAIN IS: (I) SUBJECT TO INCLEMENT WEATHER (E.G. SNOW, ICE, FLOODING, EXTREME HEAT); OR (II) ON AN EXTREME INCLINE WHICH IS UNSAFE TO NEGOTIATE WITHOUT 4WD; OR (III) ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHICH REQUIRES 4WD TO NAVIGATE TO A SAFE LOCATION; OR (IV) THE TCSC FAILS WHEN THE TC BECOMES STUCK IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION WHILE SHIFTING, AND IS UNABLE TO ESCAPE IMPENDING HARM (FLASH FLOOD) ... THERE IS OBVIOUS RISK TO LIFE/SAFETY. THE OWNER HAS A RIGHT TO RELY ON THE COMPONENTS AND REASONABLE SAFETY PERFORMANCE FOR WHICH THE PRODUCT IS DESIGNED/MARKETED. JEEP IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND THE MANUAL FAILS TO CITE THIS AS A POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC EVENT, LEAVING THE UNSUSPECTING OWNER AT A LOSS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. IT IS NOT REASONABLE FOR THIS COMPONENT TO FAIL WITHIN A FEW THOUSAND MILES AS REPORTED BY JEEP OWNERS. ADVANCE ADAPTERS (WWW.ADVANCEADAPTERS.COM) MANUFACTURES A TCSC WHICH MEETS THE CRITERIA (PRODUCT# 715596) REQUIRED FOR THIS COMPONENT. THERE IS NO REASON THAT JEEP CANNOT DO THE SAME AND/OR CONTRACT WITH ADVANCE ADAPTORS TO SUPPLY THE PART TO JEEP OWNERS. WE URGE NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION OF THIS SAFETY DEFECT AND JEEP WILL REDESIGN THE DEFECTIVE PART AND ISSUE A RECALL FOR AFFECTED VEHICLES ON WHICH THE PART WAS INSTALLED AS OEM AND TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO REPLACEMENT FOR LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
AT 45MPH STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY. VEHICLE ABOUT TO ROLL OVER DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL. CAR FOLLOWING STATES WHEELS WERE TURNING BACK AND FORTH AT HIGH SPEED. DOES FREQUENTLY NOW. *TR
IN THE LAST MONTH I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH GAS OVERFLOWING OUT OF THE FUEL TANK FILLER AFTER THE GAS PUMP CLICKS OFF. THE GAS COMES OUT AND RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED DURING 3 OUT OF 4 FILL-UPS IN THE LAST MONTH. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING YET TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS SINCE 6/2011 THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND AUDIBLE BELL GOES OFF. HAVE DISCUSSED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER AND ALSO HAD THEM TRY TO DIAGNOSE VIA COMPUTER. THEY CAN NOT DIAGNOSE CORRECTLY. LIGHT AND BELL ARE STILL ACTIVATING. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANY SPECIFIC CONDITIONS THAT MAKE THIS ALARM GO OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE STEERING AND THE FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHAKING STOPPED WHEN THE VEHICLE INCREASED SPEED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE BECOMES VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ONCE IT WOULD REACH HIGHWAY SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD AT 50 MPH, I CROSSED A BUMP IN THE ROAD WHERE A CULVERT HAD BEEN REPLACED. THE BLACKTOP WAS REPLACED ON THE ROAD AND NO VISIBLE OBSTRUCTIONS WERE NOTICED. THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I THOUGHT I HAD BLOWN A TIRE OR A BALL JOINT HAD FAILED. I CAME TO A STOP AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, FEARING I'D GET REAR-ENDED MAKING A STOP SO SUDDENLY. I GOT OUT OF THE JEEP TO CHECK THE TIRES, ETC AND NOTHING LOOKED OUT OF PLACE - NO FLAT TIRES, NO SIGN OF JOINTS FAILING. I GOT BACK IN THE JEEP AND SLOWLY STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED WITHIN A 4 WEEK SPAN AT LEAST 4 TIMES AT THE SAME LOCATION. BUT WHEN I WOULD DRIVE WITH OTHERS IN THEIR VEHICLES, THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEMS. I ENDED UP TAKING MY JEEP TO THE LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY REPLACED BALL JOINTS, U JOINTS AND ALSO ALIGNED THE FRONT END. I HAD NO PROBLEM UNTIL NOVEMBER 1, WHEN ALONG ANOTHER SECONDARY ROAD, ANOTHER CULVERT HAD BEEN REPLACED; AGAIN THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. AGAIN ON A MAIN HIGHWAY, A WEEK LATER, A BUMP YOU COULD NOT SEE BUT FEEL WHILE DRIVING, VIOLENT SHAKING OCCURRED. I CALLED MY GARAGE TODAY AND TOLD THE ATTENDANT WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS OCCURS IN SOME CHRYSLER AND ALSO FORD VEHICLES. THERE PROBABLY IS NOTHING ELSE WRONG, BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT JUST NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH IN OWNING ONE OF THESE VEHICLES. "DEALT WITH"???? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS - CHRYSLER SHOULD DEAL WITH THIS - HELLOOOO, "RECALL"... *TR
STEERING DAMPENER. STEERING BOX. *TR
JEEP WRANGLER JK SPILLS FUEL OUT THE FILLER NECK DURING REFUELING. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY BACK FLOW PREVENTER IN THE GAS TANK. CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM AND OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANKS OF VEHICLES BUILT DURING SPECIFIED BUILD DATES. HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT COVER ALL THE VEHICLES AFFECTED WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO TAKE ANY ACTION. EVERY FILL UP CREATES A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SPILLS HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER SAYS IT IS THE CLOCKSPRING AND IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME SERIES OF JEEP (2007-2011WRANGLER) . AND HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. AS THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE IN CURRENT AUTOMOBILES I WOULD EXPECT THERE WOULD BE SOME INVESTIGATION INTO MULTIPLE FAILURES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE YET THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,500.
I OWN A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA. TWO BIG COMPLAINTS. FIRST, WITH 51,000 MY JEEP HAS STARTED TO EXHIBIT WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE", APPARENTLY NOW AN INFAMOUS REALITY AMONG JEEP OWNERS UP TO THE 2010 MODELS (WHICH I AM TOLD, JEEP CORRECTED WITH A STABILIZER BAR REDESIGN). 45 MPH ON SMOOTH ROADS AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE FRONT END STARTS JUMPING UNCONTROLLABLY, AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET CONTROL IS TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE REBALANCED AND THEN REPLACED THE TIRES, AND HAVE HAD THE FRONT SUSPENSION CHECKED -- EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE IN ORDER, AND NO MECHANIC CAN FIGURE OUT THE TRUE "FIX". I WANT TO KNOW WHY NHTSA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR SERVICE NOTICE ON AN ISSUE THAT IS SO DANGEROUS? THE CONSISTENCY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DESIGN ERROR IN THE STEERING AND FRONT END OF THESE VEHICLES IS OVERWHELMING. SECOND ISSUE IS THAT MY GAS TANK DOES NOT ALLOW FOR THE AUTO-CUT-OFF FOR GAS PUMP OPERATIONS -- WHENEVER I FILL UP THE TANK, THE GAS RUSHES UP THE TANK LINE WITH APPARENTLY NO BAFFLING AND COMES POURING OUT. AND NO, I AM NOT AN IDIOT WHO IS OVERFILLING THE TANK -- WHETHER THE PUMP IS ON AUTOMATIC FILL, OR I DO IT CAREFULLY MANUALLY, THE SAME THING HAPPENS -- THE TANK SUDDENLY FILLS AND SHOOTS GAS OUT OF THE FILLER CAP AREA. THERE IS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG HERE. I DID SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PRIOR INVESTIGATION ON A SIMILAR COMPLAINT FOR THESE VEHICLES, AND THAT NHTSA DETERMINED NOT TO PURSUE A RECALL. I THINK THE ISSUE NEEDS TO GET REVISITED. THE LAME DODGE THAT NHTSA BELIEVED THAT MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE WERE "INTERNET DRIVEN" SOUNDS FECKLESS. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES ARE SAFETY CONCERNS - ESPECIALLY THE DEATH WOBBLE ISSUE -- AND NEED REGULATORY INTERVENTION IN ORDER TO PROTECT CONSUMERS LIKE ME. THANK YOU. *TR
ON MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER MY CLOCKSPRING WENT OUT AND POSED A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH MY SAFETY. WITH THE CLOCKSPRING OUT OF COMMISSION MY AIRBAGS WOULD NO LONGER DEPLOY. WHEN I WENT INTO MY LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED AND ASKED IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE SERVICEMAN TOLD ME IT WOULDN'T BECAUSE HE SAID IT WAS A WIRING PROGRAM AND THAT MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER WIRES. I TOLD HIM THAT THE CLOCKSPRING WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE END RESULT WAS THAT I HAD TO PAY $437. *TR
KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVEN. IT WOULD COME AND GO, MECHANIC CHECKED FOR THE OBVIOUS LOSS PARTS (MUFFLER, SHOCKS, ETC...). THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE NOISE REAPPEARED, THE MECHANIC HAS DRIVEN LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE WHEN THE ENGINE SEIZED. MECHANIC DROPPED THE OIL PAN AND FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL AND THE BEARING HAD SPUN. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE MECHANICS WE HAVE SPOKEN WITH HAVE RELATED THAT THE NEW 07 3.0 LITER ENGINE WAS FOUND TO HAVE ISSUES THAT LEAD TO THIS SPUN BEARING. REPAIRS AND PARTS ARE WELL OVER $8000. *TR
WHILE FILLING IT WITH GAS, IT OVERFLOWS AND THEN CLICKS OFF AFTER IT HAS SPILLED ENOUGH TO REACH THE GROUND. MAYBE 2 CUPS OF GAS GOES ALL OVER THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, AND ONTO THE GROUND. I CAN HEAR AIR PRESSURE SOMETIMES JUST BEFORE IT SPURTS GAS, BUT NOT SOON ENOUGH TO PREVENT THE SPILL. THIS CONDITION HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT IS FILLED NOW. *TT
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STRETCH OF US-61 NORTH OF GONZALES, LA. A PHENOMENON KNOWN AS "DEATH WOBBLE" OCCURRED ON MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. AFTER TAKING IT TO A LOCAL SHOP THAT HAVE COME TO DISCOVER THAT THE TRACK BAR HAS COME LOOSE AND STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT JEEP REFUSES TO ADDRESS IT. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION BECAUSE THE VIOLENT SHAKING LIKELY COULD HAVE MESSED UP BALL JOINTS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT. *TR
CLOCK SPRING PREMATURE FAILURE. CAUSES HORN TO NOT WORK AND AIR BAGS LIKELY WON'T FUNCTION EITHER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A 7% GRADE HILL, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP AND THE ENGINE RACED. FOLLOWED BY INEFFECTIVE BRAKE MODULATION, MORE LIGHTS, INCREASED SPEED, AND PANIC OF WIFE (DRIVER), CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS 2), AND DOGS (3). WIFE WAS ABLE TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW FAR ENOUGH TO SHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO 2ND, FOLLOWED BY 1ST, PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND JAM IT INTO PARK. SHE DROVE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL AND INTO A PARKING AREA IN 4WD LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND NOTHING CONCRETE TO BLAME.
