WHEN CONTACTING THE DEALER, THE DEALER ADVISED BEFORE REPAIRS COULD BE MADE UNDER THE RECALL, HE WOULD HAVE TO PRODUCE A RECEIPT SHOWING WHERE HE PURCHASED A TOW PACKAGE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED HE DID NOT HAVE A RECEIPT AND THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT SUPPLY ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 12,000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V436000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER FOR A HARD COPY OF THE RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO SEND A HARD COPY OF THE RECALL TO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THERE WERE NO FAILURES AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA, WHEN FUELING VEHICLE FUEL SPILLS OUT OF TANK. *TR
THE "CLOCK SPRING" FAILED IN MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON. THE "CLOCK SPRING" IS THE DEVICE WITHIN THE STEERING WHEEL HUB THAT THE ELECTRICITY PASSES THROUGH ALLOW IN THE AIRBAG, HORN, AND CRUISE CONTROL TO WORK WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS BEING TURNED. WHEN THE CLOCK SPRING FAILS THESE ITEMS DO NOT WORK. THE SERVICE WRITER AT KEFFER JEEP IN CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA, 704-532-1050, EXPLAINED THERE IS MORE THAN 500 BACK ORDERED AND IT WILL BE UP TO A YEAR BEFORE THE PART ARRIVES. THIS MEANS THERE ARE CURRENTLY MORE THAN 500 JEEP OF ALL MODELS (ALL MODEL JEEPS USE THE SAME CLOCK SPRING) DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL AIRBAG SYSTEMS. *TR

1) UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS 2) THE JEEP'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL CUT OUT AND SHUT EVERYTHING OFF INCLUDING THE ENGINE. 3) I INQUIRED ABOUT A RECALL THAT DESCRIBED MY SITUATION (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V291000 ) AND WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDN'T APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT STATED OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER 55 MPH AND OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO DECELERATE TO 45 MPH OR LESS IN ORDER TO STOP THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT A REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. ....UPDATED 06/18/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED A WELL KNOWN FAILURE KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE SHAKING WAS SO EXTREME, THE CONSUMER WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO FULLY CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND WOULD BE FORCE TO SLOW DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. UPDATED 06/21/12
WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF DOES NOT ENGAGE FROM THE VEHICLE ITSELF. FUEL (ABOUT A QUART) CONTINUES TO FLOW AND OUT AND ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IT ALSO SPRAYS OUT AND ON THE PERSONNEL FUELING THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A TSB 14-001-11 FROM JEEP ABOUT THE ISSUE, AND I REQUEST THIS BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS UNSAFE FOR THE OPERATOR TO HAVE FUEL SPRAYED ON THEM, AND HAVE FUEL SPILLAGE ON THE GROUND.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK AS THE TANK REACHES IT'S FULL POINT THE FUEL WILL SPEW OUT, SPILLING FUEL OVER MY HAND AND DOWN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT FROM OVER FUELING; IT WILL HAPPEN WHETHER I USE THE LATCH ON THE GAS PUMP HANDLE OR NOT. IT BEGAN HAPPENING RANDOMLY BUT AS TIME PASSES IT HAPPENS WITH NEARLY EVERY REFUELING. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED (WHILE UNDER WARRANTY) AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THUS SENT ME ON MY WAY. IT HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN SINCE, GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. *TR
MY GAS TANK OVER FLOWS AND GAS SQUIRTS OUT AS I'M FILLING MY GAS TANK. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET GAS. AS SOON AS IT NOZZLE CHICKS, GAS SQUIRTS OUT FIRST AND THEN WHEN I TAKE THE NOZZLE OUT, GAS GUSHES OUT ALL DOWN THE JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. GAS IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO LOSE GAS EACH TIME. I AM A COMMUTER AND GAS UP OFTEN. ALSO, WHAT IS THE GAS SPILLING ON MY JEEP DOING TO THE PAINT? *TR
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, AND THE FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I STARTED PULLING OVER AND WHEN I GOT DOWN TO 35 MPH, THE SHAKING STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS WITHOUT INCIDENCE, AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. THIS WAS A STOCK JEEP BOUGHT NEW WITHOUT ANY AFTER-MARKET ALTERATIONS WITH ONLY 52K MILES. I TOOK IT INTO MIDAS, AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW STEERING STABILIZER. THEY REPLACED IT, AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND THEY REPLACED TRACKBAR, BUT IT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO MIDAS, AND THEY PUT ANOTHER NEW STABILIZER, STILL HAD THE PROBLEM WITH EVER-INCREASING FREQUENCY. I PUT NEW TIRES ON THE CAR, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 20K MILES. AT 73K, THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME I TOOK IT THE JEEP DEALER. THEY KNEW WHAT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WAS, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK EVERYTHING. THEY REPORTED BACK THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE COMPONENTS, AND SUGGESTED I GET THE TIRES BALANCED AGAIN. I GOT THE TIRES BALANCED AND TOOK IT BACK A WEEK LATER TO THE DEALER AS THE PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING WITH MORE FREQUENCY, AND NOW WAS OCCURRING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-55 MPH. I SUGGESTED A PARTICULAR PATCH OF HIGHWAY FOR A TEST DRIVE. THEY CALLED ME BACK AND SAID, "THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG." THEY THEN WORKED WITH CHRYSLER TO IDENTIFY AND "SOLVE" THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE TIRE RODS AND JOINTS. THREE DAYS LATER I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM AGAIN, AND THEN AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT APPROXIMATELY $1400 TO "FIX" THIS PROBLEM, AND IT CONTINUES TO PERSIST. DO AN ONLINE SEARCH OF "DEATH WOBBLE" AND YOU'LL FIND ENTRY AFTER ENTRY AND EVEN VIDEOS. I'M REALLY WORRIED THAT ONE OF THESE TIMES WHEN I AND FORCED TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN AND HEAD TO THE SHOULDER, I'M GOING TO END UP REAR ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER.
WE HAVE A 2007 MODEL JEEP WRANGLER. WE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE STEERING DAMPENER. IT HAS BEEN RECALLED ON SEVERAL MODELS EXCEPT THIS ONE. WE ARE HAVING TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE WE HAVE THE "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE". I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THAT THEY HAVEN'T RECALLED IT ON THIS MODEL YET WHEN WE WENT TO REPLACE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, YOU CANNOT PURCHASE THE ORIGINAL. YOU CAN ONLY PURCHASE THE NEW ONE WHICH REQUIRES ALL NEW BRACKETS FOR INSTALLATION. WE HAVE 2 FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE SAME MODEL JEEP THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. MY HUSBAND WAS NEARLY HIT HEAD ON BY A SEMI BECAUSE WHEN THE WOBBLE STARTS IT SHAKES THE ENTIRE FRONT END AND YOU MUST SLAM ON YOUR BRAKES TO MAKE IT STOP. WHEN HE DID THIS IT THREW HIM INTO THE OTHER LANE ALMOST HITTING THE SEMI TRUCK. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED?? *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE JEEP UP, IT OVERFLOWS EITHER ON TO THE VEHICLE, MYSELF, OR THE GROUND. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD THAT I KNOW IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING 70 MPH OR MORE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT END SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL MOMENTARILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A SPECIALIST TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THERE WAS MINOR BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED ACCORDINGLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL BRAKE SHOP. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 18,000.
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, NO MATTER HOW SLOW I DO IT, THERE IS AN OVERFLOW AND IN A COUPLE CASES A FORCIBLE SPLASH. IT WAS SO FORCIBLE THIS WEEKEND THAT MY PANTS AND SHOES WERE SOAKED. I HAVE READ ON A JEEP FORUM THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A NUMBER OF OWNERS OF THE JEEP WRANGLERS. THERE ARE EVEN A NUMBER OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS DOCUMENTING THE SITUATION. AT THE VERY LEAST THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE BUT IT COULD ESCALATE INTO SOMETHING FAR MORE DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS THAT OVERFLOWS. *TR
WHILE FILLING UP WITH GAS THE JEEP WILL SHOOT APPROX. 1/2 GL. OF GAS BACK OUT THE FILLER NECK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. NOW OVER THE COARSE OF TWO YEARS IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME AT FILL UP. MY WIFE AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN SPRAYED BY GAS THAT HAS SHOT BACK OUT. JEEP HAS PLACED A TSB/RECALL ON CERTAIN BUILD DATES BUT MY BUILD DATE DOES NOT FALL WITHIN THOSE DATES. *TR *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY FOR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 25,000 WAS AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
INCIDENTS OF ENGINE STALL; AIRBAG NON-DEPLOYMENT; RANDOM HORN, HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT, DOOR LOCK, INSTRUMENT PANEL AND WINDSHIELD WIPER ACTIVITY; FAILURE OF FUEL PUMP SHUTOFF RESULTING IN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION; AND FIRES. ALL THE DASH BACK LIGHTS COME OFF AND ON RANDOMLY ESPECIALLY THE HEATER CONTROLS. AIR BAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. AIR BAG LIGHT AND BEEPER FLASH AND BEEP ALL THE TIME AND NO MECHANIC DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. VERY FLUSHTERATING TO DRIVE W AIRBAG BEEPING . NO RESALE VALUE DUE TO ALL THE ABOVE THINGS. WILL YOU BUY IT? HORN HAS NOW STOPPED WORKING AND LIGHTS BEHIND THE HEATER DO NOT WORK EITHER.

WHILE TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER X (WITH 55000 MILES) "CHIMED" AND THE AIR-BAG , TRACTION CONTROL, AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP. UPON INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE I FOUND THAT THIS LEAVES THE SAFETY SYSTEMS INACTIVE! A BAD "CLOCK SPRING" IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS HE CAUSE OF ALL THE SYSTEM FAILURES. MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD STILL BE COVERED BY JEEP/CHRYSLER. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN OR ME AND MY FAMILY. *TR

AFTER 25,000 MILES, MY JEEP WRANGLER'S GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. THE EVENT OCCURS EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS. GAS BLOWS FORCIBLY UP OUT OF THE HOLE WHERE THE GAS NOZZLE FROM THE PUMP GOES INTO THE VEHICLE. THE GAS GOES ALL OVER MY VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING/EVERYONE IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT UNCOMMON AND WAS DUE TO THE VEHICLE OPERATING AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE. 2007 JEEP WRANGLER JK (2 DOOR) SPITS BACK FUEL AND SPILLS ABOUT A CUP OF FUEL WHEN GAS STATION PUMP SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS AT THE END OF FILLING THE TANK REGARDLESS OF THE PACE THE FUEL IS PUMPED (AMOUNT SPILLED IS LESS AT LOWER PUMP RATE BUT STILL HAPPENS). THIS BEGAN HAPPENING ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHEN VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 27,000 MILES. IT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THAT. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUES SINCE IT NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FUELED. *TR
WHILE FILLING UP MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA UNLIMITED WITH GAS, THE GAS SEEMS TO OVERFILL AND SPIT BACK OUT OF THE FUEL FILL NECK. THIS OCCURS AT DIFFERENT PUMPS WITH NO APPARENT CONSISTENT FACTORS. WHEN THE TANK GETS FULL AND THE PUMP CLICKS OFF ALL OF A SUDDEN ABOUT A HALF A GALLON OF GAS, OR MORE, SPITS BACK OUT OF THE NECK ONTO ME, THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I TRY TO COMPLETELY FILL THE TANK. NOW I HAVE ADAPTED MY FILL UP STRATEGY AND FILL ONLY TO WHAT I THINK IS NEAR FULL AND NOT LET IT CLICK. DEALERSHIP SAYS NOTHING CAN BE DONE FOR FREE WITHOUT A RECALL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE POLLUTION CONTROL VALVE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEAD GASKET FAILED AND THE SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. 2007 JEEP WRANGLER GAS OVERFLOW WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK. QUITE A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF GAS OVERFLOWS WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FILLED. EVEN WHEN I TRY TO SLOWLY FILL THE TANK IT STILL OVERFLOWS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IS COMMON AMONG THE JK MODEL JEEP. *TR
MY JEEP HAS THE DEATH WOBBLE, HAS NOW FOR YEARS. AS ADVISED IHAVE REPLACED TIRES AND HAD AN ALLIGNMENT, FIXED IT FOR A WHILE, NOW ITS BACK, REPLACED TIRES AND ALLIGNMENT ALSO BALANCED AND NOW REPLACING THE STEERING DAMPER. THERE ARE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. EVERY MECHANIC I CALLED HAD HEARD OF IT OR EXPERIENCED IT. THERE HAVE BEEN NEWS PIECES DONE ABOUT IT AND NOW CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN BLAMING IT ON EVERYONE ELSE BUT THEIR POOR DESIGN. THEY SHOULD E HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I HAVE NOT LIFTED MY JEEP AND NOTHING BESIDES TIRES AND NOW THIS STEERING DAMPER HAS BEEN REPLACED - SO ALL STOCK. THEY NEED TO BE FORCED TO GET TO THE ROOT OF THIS AND REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND LABOR TIME IT TAKES TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THIS. IT MAY NOT IN AND OF ITSELF BE A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT ONCE IT STARTS IS TO STOP COMPLETELY AND THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. BESIDES THE FACT THAT IT HAS TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE VIOLENT SHAKING AND THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS IN AND OF ITSELF DEPENDING ON WHAT IS DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE STEERING STABILIZER. THE CONTACT IS WAITING FOR THE DEALER TO CALL HIM BACK TO CONFIRM THE STATUS OF THE WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,500.

EVERYTIME I FILL UP GAS TANK OVERFLOWS AND GAS GOES EVERYWHERE. *TR
WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MILES PER HOUR AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE FRONT END STARTED SHAKING LIKE I HAD BLOWN A TIRE. I PULLED OVER, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND DROVE AWAY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WAS ADVISED STEERING STABILIZER WAS DEFECTIVE,TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AFTER THAT ONLY TO DRIVE AWAY IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. GOT TIRED OF FIGHTING WITH JEEP TO FIX THE PROBLEM SO I HAD TO GET THE PARTS AND FIX IT MYSELF, BUT I STILL HAVE THE OLD PARTS. WHEN FILLING UP MY 2007 JEEP RUBICON, AFTER THE PUMP HANDLE "CLICKS" OFF FUEL WILL SPILL OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. IT HAPPENS ANYTIME FROM IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PUMP STOPS TO UP TO 5 SECONDS AFTER. I HAD THIS AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ON 1/25/10 AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM AT 17,936 MILEAGE. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON 1/18/2010. I CALLED CHRYSLER AT 1-800-653-1403 AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY KNEW OF NO RECALL OF THIS NATURE AND THAT IF ANYTHING SHOULD HAPPEN, THEN I SHOULD CALL THEM. I EXPLAINED THAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED, IT WOULD BE TOO LATE, ACCORDING TO THIS ARTICLE, MY CAR WOULD BE ON FIRE. THEY STILL SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, THERE WAS NO RECALL.
