TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VAUGHN MOTORS (1102 NW MAIN STREET, BUNKIE, LA 71322) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,876.
DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH AND JEEP STALLS WHILE DRIVING, EVERYTHING TURNS OFF AND RADIO RESETS TIME BACK TO 12, DONE IT MORE THAN 10 TIMES, I TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE THE COMPUTER CONNECTED AND THEY SAY NO CODES SHOW UP. *TR
REALLY ANNOYING AND VERY DANGEROUS!! EACH TIME WE FILL UP OUR 2011 JEEP WRANGLER WITH FUEL, JUST AS THE PUMPS AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF CLICKS, FUEL WILL BLOW OUT AND ALL OVER WHOEVER IS HOLDING THE PUMP HANDLE. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, EXCEPT FOR THE CLICK FROM THE PUMP HANDLE A SPLIT SECOND BEFORE YOU GET DOUSED. WE CHECKED WITH OUR JEEP DEALER TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOT, HOWEVER IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE "INLET CHECK VALVE"; A MECHANICAL ITEM THAT APPEARS TO BE DEFECTIVE, AND A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN, BUT IS SOMEHOW NOT UNDER WARRANTEE. WE WENT ON-LINE TO RESEARCH AND FOUND SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES, INCLUDING 2007-2009 JEEP WRANGLERS. REALLY AGGRAVATING TO FIND OUT THERE HAD BEEN PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, CHRYSLER KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, BUT BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2011 YEAR, IT WAS NOT CONSIDERED A REAL CONCERN
SLUGGISH JOLTING OF THE CAR DRIVING IN 4WD, ESPECIALLY IN REVERSE. *TR
WAS ENTERING ONTO THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY 2011 JEEP WRANGLER COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON, POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AND HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF. IMMEDIATELY MANEUVERED THE JEEP OFF OF THE INTERSTATE WHERE I SAT IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER FOR A HALF HOUR BEFORE IT WOULD START BACK. TWO WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN A RAIN STORM AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ONCE AGAIN, WE HAD TO CAREFULLY GET OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AND TRY TO GET THEM WORKING, WHICH WE FAILED TO DO. HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE STORM PASSED BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. MY HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC AND BEGAN DRIVING THE JEEP ON A DAILY BASIS WITH A COMPUTER HOOKED TO IT IN HOPES TO CATCH A CODE. ONCE AGAIN, THE JEEP SHUT OFF ALL POWER AND THREW A CODE FOR THE TIPM MODULE. SINCE THEN, WE'VE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE THE JEEP LOOSES ALL POWER AND SHUTS OFF ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKING OFF AND ON. WE BOUGHT THE JEEP AND HAD IT FOR ONLY 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE PROBLEMS BEGAN. WE'VE CONTACTED THE DEALER WE PURCHASED FROM, SEVERAL JEEP DEALERSHIPS AND CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND RECEIVED THE RUN AROUND BY ALL OF THEM. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALER WHERE WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TIPM MODULES WERE A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY WERE ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL, BUT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN IT CAME IN. THAT WAS 8 MONTHS AGO AND STILL WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED A CALL. I'M ALWAYS NERVOUS WHEN I DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IS GOING TO SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSE A WRECK BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET OFF OF THE INTERSTATE NOR CAN YOU STEER EASILY. I REALLY WISH CHRYSLER WOULD OWN UP TO THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE! *TR
I STARTED MY JEEP THIS MORNING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE FACTORY REMOTE START, 10 MIN LATER I WALKED OUT OF MY HOUSE AND SAW FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING FROM MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. A CAR DRIVING BY HAD STOPPED AND CALLED 911. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR RAN OVER WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE FIRE IN CONTROL BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT THERE. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND MELTED, THE WINDOW IS GONE. THE ROOF, SEAT AND SURROUNDING AREA ARE ALSO DAMAGED. THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED SOMEWHERE IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I CALLED JEEP TWICE TODAY THINKING THEY WOULD BE CONCERNED AND RESPONSIVE, BUT I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 2-5 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT AND INSPECT THE CAR. IN THE MEANTIME I WAIT CARLESS...THANK GOODNESS MY 2 CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. I DID SOME RESEARCH THIS EVENING AND FOUND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO A COUPLE IN MONTREAL LAST JANUARY AND FOUND REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING 2 OTHER TIMES WITH THE EXACT SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR JEEP. *TR
USING MY 2011 JEEP WRANGLER (RIGHT HAND DRIVE), I DELIVER MAIL FOR THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE. WAS DELIVERING MAIL ON MY RURAL ROUTE. DATE WAS 4TH OF FEB.2014. THE PROBLEM WAS A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS , MANY OTHER WIRES, COMPARTMENT PLASTICS ,AND GAS LINE. THE CAUSE APPEARS TO BE HOT OIL FROM THE TRANSMISSION DIPPING ONTO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION . I ONLY SEE THAT THE FILL TUBE ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS THE LEAK. I HEARD A FIRE IGNITE , OPEN THE CAR HOOD AND SEEN THE BLACK SMOKE I THEN PUT OUT THE FIRE. IT IS NOW THE DATE-MARCH 18 ,2014. I HAVE NO SUPPORT FROM CHRYSLER CORPORATION FOR REPAIR OF MY PROBLEM. THEIR INVESTIGATION STATED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT FOUND NO MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE INCIDENT ON 2-3-2014. I HAVE NOW TURNED THIS OVER TO MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY . THEY SAY I SHOULD USE THE LEMON LAW. THIS VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR A BAD TRANSMISSION IN NOV. OF 2013. I DO NOT SEE WHY I SHOULD OF HAD MORE PROBLEMS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY COST TO REPAIR IS $5000. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER FOR THE JEEP ,A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST ME PERSONALLY $5000. THANK YOU. *TR
I STARTED FEELING A WARBLE WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP ON THE ROAD, TOOK IT INTO A LES SCHAWB THEY TOLD ME IT WAS WARN TIE ROD ENDS, SO I THEN TOOK IT TO JEEP DEALER 'LITHIA" IN EUGENE OREGON THEY INSPECTED IT AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. TODAY I WAS COMING HOME ON HWY 126 AND AFTER I HIT A PART OF THE ROAD THAT IS ROUGH, THE JEEP TOTALLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL THE WHOLE THING WAS SHAKING SO BAD I HAD EVERYTHING I COULD DO TO SLOW IT DOWN AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IT PROBABLY WOULD FEEL LIKE IF ALL 4 TIRES POPPED AT ONCE. IT SCARED ME SO BAD, I WAS JUST SHAKING. I GOT OUT LOOKED AT ALL THE TIRES, AND UNDERNEATH,L SEEN NOTHING WRONG SO I PUT ON MY 4 WAY FLASHERS AND DROVE HOME THE LAST 3 MILES AT A CRAWL. I WILL CONTACT JEEP AGAIN ON MONDAY AND TELL THEM THERE IS A PROBLEM, THE POWER STEERING HAS ALSO WENT OUT TWICE ON THIS AND HAD TO BE FIXED. *TR
EVERYTIME I GET A FULL TANK OF FUEL APPROX. 1/2 GALLON OF FUEL COMES OUT OF THE FILL NOZZLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN STARTING THE IGNITION THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TROUBLE CODE INDICATED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,600.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE HORN FAILED TO ACTIVATE. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FILET NECK. THE GAS DOES NOT STOP WHEN YOUR FILLING IT. THE GAS OVERRATED ALL THE TIME. THE PERSON AT THE GAS STATION SAYS IT HAPPENS W ALL THE JEEP'S. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE WHEN THE GAS SPILLS OUT. ALSO JEEP SAYS IT'S A PROBLEM BUT SAYS THERE ISN'T A RECALL
DECEMBER 2013, WHEN TEMPERATURES REACHED FREEZING AND LOWER, VEHICLE STARTED OVERFLOWING DURING REFUELING. THIS OCCURRED ON EVERY REFUELING OCCURRENCE THAT THE GAS PUMP SHOULD HAVE SHUT OFF ONCE THE TANK WAS FULL. THIS OCCURRED FROM DECEMBER 2013 UNTIL MARCH 2014 WHEN I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE IN FOR MAINTENANCE. THE VAPOR CANISTER AND LEAK DETECTION PUMP FILTER WERE REPLACED. DECEMBER 2014, TEMPERATURES REACHED FREEZING AND BELOW; VEHICLE IS AGAIN OVERFLOWING DURING ALL REFUELING WHEN THE PUMP SHOULD HAVE SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS AND IS NOT ISOLATED TO ONE BRAND OF GASOLINE, FUELING STATION, OR STATE. ONCE THE PROBLEM BEGINS IT DOES NOT STOP WHEN TEMPERATURES INCREASE ABOVE FREEZING AND HIGHER. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT IN THIS SYSTEM, BUT SO FAR JEEP/MOPAR HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT FOR 2011 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITEDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V528000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
FUEL OVERFLOW DURING FUELING. FUEL DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN TANK IS FULL. THIS HAS BEEN A PERSISTENT PROBLEM. *TR
MY GAS TANK OVERFLOWS AT THE PUMP EVERY TIME I RE-FUEL. THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF WHEN FULL, THEN SHORTLY AFTER, OVERFLOW SPILLS OUT ONTO THE GROUND. THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE IS TO GUESS WHEN IT IS GETTING CLOSE TO FULL AND STOP THE PUMP BEFORE IT IS FULL. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35-75 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED VIOLENTLY ON HARD SURFACE ROADS. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
FUEL SPILLING OUT OF THE GAS TANK. ALSO ON OCCASION FUEL WILL NOT PUMP AT ALL. AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF KEEPS ENGAGING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL WOULD SPILL WHENEVER ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT FUEL WOULD SPILL ON HERSELF AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE CHECK VALVE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
THE FRONT TWO DOORS OF MY JEEP LEAK WATER. IF IT RAINS OVER NIGHT THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD WILL HAVE 3/4 INCH OF STANDING WATER, THE DOOR LEAKS MORE WHEN DRIVING WHILE RAINING. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LEAKS, BUT ONLY WHEN DRIVING AND NOT ENOUGH TO FILL THE FLOOR BOARD. I SHOP VACUUM THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD EVERY TIME IT RAINS TO GET THE STANDING WATER OUT, THEN PUT TOWELS DOWN TO SOAK UP WHAT IS LEFT. THE CARPET NOW SMELLS MOLDY, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE CONCERNING MY HEALTH. JEEP HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OF 23-010-13 (FORMALLY 23-001-12) OUT, SO THEY KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE. WHY CAN THEY NOT DO A RECALL ON THE ISSUE? *TR
MY CLOCK SPRING IS INOP THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ON RIGHT SIDE DRIVE JEEPS WELL MINE IS A LEFT SIDE DRIVE WITH THE SAME ISSUES THAT THE RIGHT SIDE DRIVE HAS WHY ISN'T IT A RECALL FOR ALL CLOCK SPRINGS THEY ARE THE SAME PART NUMBER FOR BOTH SIDE DRIVES PLEASE FIX THIS AS IT ALSO AFFECTS MY HORN AND AIRBAG. EVER SINCE I'VE PURCHASED MY USED 2011 WRANGLER IT HAS SPIT FUEL ONTO JEEP/GROUND WHILE FILLING THE TANK. SOMETIMES AS MUCH AS 1/2 GAL FUEL. THERE IS A TSB FOR 2007/2008 WRANGLERS TO HAVE TANK REPLACED. THERE NEEDS TO BE ANOTHER ONE FOR NEWER JEEPS. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2011 ARE LISTED ON YOUR SITE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I STARTED TO HEAR A KNOCKING NOISE FOR 3-5 SECONDS ON A COLD START. IT DID NOT DO THIS ON ANY SEQUENTIAL STARTS FOR THAT DAY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHO CHANGED OIL FILTER AND OIL. STILL MADE SOUND ON RECEIVING VEHICLE. TOOK IN AGAIN AND DEALER REPLACED THE LIFTERS. STILL MADE NOISE UPON RECEIPT. TOOK IN FOR A THIRD TIME, THEY ARE NOW SAYING IT IS A NORMAL NOISE, EVEN THOUGH IT NEVER MADE IT BEFORE. JEEP SPECIALISTS SAY THAT THIS IS A NORMAL NOISE AS WELL. AFTER RESEARCHING ON-LINE, I HAVE FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION LEADING TO A MALFUNCTIONING CYLINDER HEAD ON THE EXACT MAKE AND MODEL OF MY JEEP ENGINE. THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS REPLACED, BUT FOR SOME REASON THIS WAS NOT EVEN CONSIDERED FOR MY VEHICLE. *TR
EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP THE FUEL TANK, FUEL SPILLS OUT (SPITS OUT ALL OVER THE BACK DRIVER'S SIDE PANEL). THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE I'VE PURCHASED THE JEEP. I HAVE TO MANUALLY CALCULATE HOW MANY GALLONS TO PUT IN EVERY TIME I GO TO THE GAS PUMP. I'VE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS ALONG WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT STRATEGIES OF HOLDING THE GAS PUMP AND REGARDLESS THE SPILLS STILL HAPPEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK FULL WITH GAS. I'VE SEARCHED ONLINE FOR RECALLS RELATING TO THIS AND THEY APPEAR TO BE OUT THERE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR 2011 MODEL JEEP WRANGLER. I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, SINCE IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. IT APPEARS THE ONLY FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, BUT I FEEL LIKE IF IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH JEEP WRANGLERS, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THE FIX. I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHO TO GO TO FROM HERE FOR A RESOLUTION. *TR
WHEN FILLING WITH FUEL, AFTER THE PUMP FINISHES PUTTING FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE, FUEL SURGES BACK OUT OF THE FILL NECK. IT APPEARS TO BE ABOUT ONE HALF GALLON SPILLS OUT ONTO THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THE PUMP IS BEING RUN IN AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL MODE. NOR DOES IT MATTER AT WHAT RATE THE FUEL IS BEING ADDED. WHEN CONTACTED, THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED FOR THIS VIN SERIES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE (OFF ROAD) FOR APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MILES WHEN THE "HOT OIL" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS NOT IN FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE. I WAS NOT TOWING ANY TRAILER OR DEVICE. THE ROAD CONDITIONS DID NOT WARRANT FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE OPERATION. THIS SITUATION REPEATED ITSELF 2 MORE TIMES THE NEXT FOLLOWING DAY. I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH A LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND WITH THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER REP, BUT WITH NO SATISFACTION. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO PAY TO INSTALL A TRANSMISSION COOLER AT MY COST. SURE IS NICE TO HAVE A "TRAIL-RATED" JEEP WRANGLER THAT CAN NOT HANDLE A SLIGHT INCLINE!!!! *TR
UPON STARTING VEHICLE DURING INITIAL GAUGE CHECK THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON. WHILE DRIVING ANYTIME THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES THE AIRBAG LIGHT CHIMES AND ILLUMINATES ON AND OFF. *TR
AROUND THE DATE LISTED ABOVE, AND SINCE THEN WITH EVERY FUEL FILL UP, ONCE THE FUEL NOZZLE STOPS FILLING, THE VEHICLE SPILLS FUEL ALL OVER THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND, CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. IT DID NOT DO THIS WHEN IT WAS NEW, AND IT HAPPENS AT ALL DIFFERENT FUEL PUMPS AND FILLING STATIONS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR VEHICLES, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS YEAR. I THINK THAT IT SHOULD. *TR
EVERY TIME YOU FILL UP THE JEEP, GAS SPILLS ONTO THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. IT SEEMS A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE BEING HURT OR CATCHING FIRE BEFORE THIS BECOMES A RECALL? THE GAS ALWAYS SPILLS OVER FROM THE GAS TANK AFTER I PUT FUEL IN THE TANK. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I PUT A FEW GALLONS IN THE TANK OR FILL IT FULL. IT SPILLS GAS ALL OVER MY JEEP AND ON THE GROUND. *TR
FOR SOME TIME THE VEHICLE HAS HAD AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL STARTING PROBLEM, WHICH RESULTS IN A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE. MOST TIMES THE VEHICLE STARTS PROPERLY. AT TIMES, HOWEVER, WHEN THE KEY IS INSERTED AND TURNED, NOTHING HAPPENS. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE CAN THEN BE STARTED USING THE REMOTE START AND THEN OPERATED BY QUICKLY INSERTING THE KEY AND TURNING IT. AT TIMES NEITHER THE KEY NOR THE REMOTE START WILL WORK. TYPICALLY, BY ALTERNATING BETWEEN ATTEMPTS TO USE THE KEY AND REMOTE START, THE VEHICLE CAN BE STARTED WITHIN 15 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND WAS RECENTLY TAKEN TO KOONS TYSONS CHRYSLER IN VIRGINIA FOR SERVICE. HOWEVER, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED WITH A 'SOFTWARE UPGRADE' TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. IT WAS AGAIN TAKEN THIS WEEK TO KOONS TYSONS CHRYSLER TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THE SERVICE CENTER SAYS IT CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON ITS LOT AND THEREFORE WON'T DO ANYTHING MORE. IT SAYS IT COMPLETELY BELIEVES THERE IS AN ISSUE, BUT WANTS TO RETURN THE VEHICLE, WAIT UNTIL THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN, AND THEN HAVE IT TOWED TO ITS SERVICE CENTER FOR APPRAISAL. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS NOT A PRACTICAL SOLUTION. IT COULD PRESENT A DANGEROUS SITUATION OF HAVING MY WIFE STUCK WHO KNOWS WHERE (A DARK PARKING LOT, RAILROAD CROSSING, ETC.) WITH A VEHICLE THAT WON'T START. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR A VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP TO THE PLATE, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, AND FIX THE PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME, I'M DRIVING A RENTAL CAR AT MY EXPENSE AS CHRYSLER WILL NEITHER PAY THE RENTAL BILL NOR FIX ITS VEHICLE. *TR
PURCHASED THIS JEEP USED LAST MONTH. FILLED THE JEEP WITH GAS. THE GAS POURED OUT OF THE GAS TANK DOWN THE JEEP AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. THE GAS IS A POLLUTANT. THE GAS IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. *TR
WE HAD THREE BLOW OUTS ON GOODYEAR TIRES WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON A 50000 MILE TIRE IN LESS THAN 1 MILE ON A STATE GRAVEL ROAD. WE WERE ONLY GOING 20 MPH AND THE BELTS BROKE IN THE THICKEST PART OF THE TIRE. I WAS BEING FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER PERSON ON THE THIRD ONE. GOODYEAR IS NOT STANDING BEHIND TIRES SAYING I WAS OFF-ROADING ON A STATE ROAD. IF I WAS GOING ANY FASTER I WOULD OF FLIPPED. I TALKED WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND ARE HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER 15,000 MILES. I COULD UNDERSTAND WITH ONE , MAYBE TWO TIRES, BUT THREE AT20MPH WITH A SHORT DISTANCE. GOODYEAR TOLD ME THE TIRES ARE NOT TO BE DRIVEN ON GRAVEL. 90 PERCENT OF PEOPLE DRIVE ON SOME TYPE DURING THE LIFE OF TIRE. THEY WERE BEING SOLD IN A AREA WERE GRAVEL IS PREVALENT AND THEY ARE NOT SAFE. NO TIRE SHOULD FAIL IN THIS WAY AT 20 MPH WITH A BELT BREAK WITH A SMALL ROCK LIKE WOULD BE FOUND ON MANY HIGHWAYS IN MANY SITUATIONS. THESE ARE GOODYEAR WRANGLERS SR-A MADE FOR OFF ROAD VEHICLES SUCH AS 4X4S, TRUCKS AND MANY OTHER VEHICLES MADE FOR DIRT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UNDER 30 MPH ON ASPHALT, DASH DISPLAY INDICATED "HOT OIL" WITH AN AUDIBLE DING. PLACED IN PARK AND ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO COOL DOWN. FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY JEEP, HOWEVER AFTER RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION COOLER NOT DOING ITS JOB. CAN RESULT IN EQUIPMENT FAILURE OR FIRE. JEEP CORRECTS ISSUE AFTER A FAILURE, HOWEVER IF YOU WAIT FOR FAILURE THEN YOU RISK FIRE. WITH 2 CHILDREN AND MY WIFE IN THE JEEP, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW FOR SAFETY. *TR
I OWN A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED WHICH I PURCHASED AS A NEW VEHICLE. IT PRESENTLY HAS OVER 90,000 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY, I NOTICED A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE MOTOR - DETECTABLE FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR, BUT NOT NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING. A FELLOW AT A CAR WASH MENTIONED THAT HE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS JEEP AND SAID THAT THE ISSUE TURNED OUT TO BE "VALVE LIFTERS" AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED UNDER THE CAR'S DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALER IN FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND ASKED TO HAVE THE TICKING SOUND CHECKED BY A MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE "TOP END" OF THE MOTOR - AND WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT IN AGAIN FOR A MORE LENGTHY EVALUATION - WHICH I DID. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE - TOOK THE VEHICLE IN - AND RENTED A CAR FOR WHAT I EXPECTED TO BE SEVERAL DAYS OF SERVICE. THAT WAS ABOUT A MONTH AGO. SUBSEQUENTLY, I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS TO THE TOP END OF THE ENGINE DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER APPARENTLY ORDERED A "LONG BLOCK" REPLACEMENT ENGINE FROM CHRYSLER, BUT HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS OBTAINING OTHER PARTS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THE REPAIR. THE DEALER ALSO TOLD ME TO CONTACT CHRYSLER'S WARRANTY GUYS ABOUT SEEKING SOME RELIEF FOR THE COST OF THE CAR RENTAL - WHICH I DID, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I SHOULD ADD THAT I HAVE BEEN CONTINUALLY ASSURED THAT THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT IS COVERED BY THE CAR'S DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, I ALSO CAME ACROSS AN ARTICLE IN "AUTOWEEK" DETAILING PROBLEMS CHRYSLER WAS EXPERIENCING WITH JEEP ENGINES OF MY CAR'S VINTAGE - AND THAT THE ENGINE REPLACEMENTS WERE BEING EXACERBATED BY FAILURES IN CHRYLSER'S PARTS SUPPLY CHAIN. THIS HAD RESULTED IN BOTH NHSTA'S INVOLVEMENT AND TO PAYMENTS TO OTHER OWNERS TO OFFSET THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF THE ATTENUATED WARRANTY REPAIRS. I'M REPORTING THIS ON THIS BASIS. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, I SET THE PUMP TO CONTINUOUSLY FILL. THE PUMP DOESN'T STOP WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, CAUSING THE FUEL TO OVERFLOW OUTSIDE THE JEEP. AND WITH THE UNKNOWN PART (HEADER BAR) LEAKS EVERYTIME IT RAINS. IT LEAKS FROM THE TOP OF THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW...AND IT'S NOT JUST A LITTLE LEAK EITHER, IT SOMETIMES LOOKS LIKE A WATERFALL! TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT WAS WARPED. BOTH SEEM TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH JEEPS WRANGLER MODELS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING 60 MPH OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY TO THE POINT THAT THE CONTACT WOULD ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD TO MERGE TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE WAS MILEAGE WAS 22,000. UPDATED 4/11/13 *CN THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER REFERRED TO THE PROBLEM AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. MANY SPECULATE IT IS CAUSED BY THE TRACK BAR, ALIGNMENT, STEERING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, OR THE TIRES. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BACKED BY A FIVE YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP BELIEVED THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AT HIS COST. THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THE TIRES WERE THE ISSUE.

DEALER INDICATED THAT CLOCK SPRING WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD COST $500. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY ON 2008 MODEL TO 150K MILES OR 10 YEARS DUE TO FAULTY CLOCK SPRING. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THE DESIGN FLAW WAS CORRECTED AND I FEEL THAT THIS PART SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY CHRYSLER FOR ALL MODEL YEARS. *TR
I HAVE BEEN TOLD EVERYTIME I HAVE MY OIL CHANGED THAT MY OIL LEVEL IS VERY LOW, I ASKED THE DEALER IF THERE WAS A LEAK AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE 3.8L V6 ENGINES ALL CONSUME OIL AND IT IS NORMAL. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER BEEN TOLD THAT AN ENGINE CONSUMING OVER A QUART OF OIL OR MORE WAS NORMAL ON A CAR ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. IT HAS BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES AND "FIXED" AND THEN RE-FAILS WITHIN A SHORT AMOUNT OF MILES. 6314, 9057, 10730, 18456 AND IS CURRENTLY FAILING AGAIN(22000). BACK TO DEALER AS SOON AS I CAN SCHEDULE. I WILL FIRST NOTICE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT TURN ON AND SOME TIMES THE HORN WILL NOT WORK. HOWEVER SOMETIMES IF I CAN HONK THE HORN AND THEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL START WORKING AGAIN; MAYBE FOR A FEW 100'S OF A FEW 1,000 MILES.
