On [XXX] at approx. 4 PM I was driving on [XXX] between Columbus and Nashville in Brown County Indiana. Weather was clear I noticed what appeared to be smoke coming through the car vents I was able to pull to the shoulder of the road, but the breaks were not working well There were no warning lights on the dash about any possible issues After grabbing 2 bags from the car, I was walking away and the car went up in flames and started to make sounds of an explosion. I called 911 and moved to the other side of the road away from the fire. Police and fire arrived on the scene and stopped all traffic The fire was put out and AJ's Paint and Body Shop came to tow the vehicle and clean up debris. We have not yet received the cost of this. We have reported this information to Kia and have spoken to them a couple of times. We have sent all of the details and information on the location of the car. We have sent multiple follow up e-mails and have not received any response since [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Over a year ago I was sent to Kia to fix a recall for a possible fuel leakage problem over my engine that got fixed with mesh tape and one zip chord. Now my engine has gushing fuel leaking on it on daily basis. I called kia a few months back asking for them to remedy this due to another recall and how I needed a rental so I could continue working while they fixed the problem they screwed up and they told me it would be over a month before they could fit me in their schedule. I have been smelling gasoline in my vehicle making me feel nauseous as I drive and the fumes are intense and my I smell it burning. My coworkers tell me daily what is that gasoline smell?. Now I get in the mail another recall notice about sparks going off for gaskets or thingsmajigs on my engine just from being idle in a parking spot or driving and how I should park away from others??!?!? Just in case!!! What about my safety??! I still have gasoline leaking all over my car engine!. My house could blow up! This is outrageous that none of this is taken care of.

BUT I AM [XXX] OLD AND CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR AND MUST PARK IT OUTSIDE IN THIS COLD WEATHER.....PLEASE NTSB LOOK INTO WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG FOR A SIMPLE FUSE REPLACEMENT.....THANK YOU INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
We are afraid to drive this car and have lost use for over 4 months now. Received Safety Recall Notice dated Nov 14, 2023. We have made numerous calls to Doug Smith dealership in American Fork, Ut, and also to KIA Customer Care Center. No information is forthcoming to resolve the issue in getting our car repaired. It is necessary that we park in our garage, so we faithfully unhook the battery cable every single time after driving and parking to be assured that it is safe. This has been going on for 4 months now and is not a comfortable situation for myself and my elderly wife. We would like some answers with respect to a timely repair to make our car safe again.
The noted KIA 2013 KIA Optima has had this recall in effect since November 2023. KIA either refuses to say when the recall part is going to be at ANY DEALER, or puts an 'elevator music' soundtrack on the line. I have called numerous dealer's in both Maine, where the KIA is currently registered, and in Ohio / Pennsylvania to find if they know anything. None of the dealer's have any idea when the parts are coming, much less when they can call Owner's to set up a recall appointment. At what point does this end.
Nov 5, 2023 my wife , son and my self traveled to Las Vegas for a family party. 2 days prior to our trip I got a tune up. On the day in question after traveling 1 hour and about 20 minutes to Las Vegas the car made a noise as if something fell off the engine next came on the oil light followed with smoke from the car. Thankfully I was able to get over where the car completely shut off and has not started since. After 5 hours of waiting in basically in the middle of nowhere we were towed to our destination which was 190 miles away from where the car shut down
While driving on highway, loss of acceleration/power, all lights appeared on dashboard. Pulled over, turned off engine. Restarted engine and power/acceleration was restored.

Have been told by mechanic that same part is recalled for non-hybrid models of the same car, however hybrid models do not have recall, even though it is the same exact part that is failing as recalled models.

So i got it home i got a recall notice in the mail that day saying to park my car away from structures and other vehicles. So i had it towed to a kia dealer here in town. they had it for a week. they said they performed a diagnostic on it and replaced the recall part to come get it. After my last oil change that was done at Lokey KIa in Clearwater, FL. I had my oil changed on July 27,2023. From the date of my oil change till mid Oct 2023 I used 5 qts. of oil. The first appointment that I could get was 11/24/23. A engine diagnosis was done and the conclusion was the engine was burning oil. I opened a claim with KIA and was told that the car was out of warranty by six months but was still under the mileage. I asked the KIA representative if they could do a good will gesture to replace the engine and was denied.
The MDPS FLEXIBLE COUPLING is needing replaced due to the play and knocking and chewing up of the plastic part and my local service center says its not covered. i gave the the nhtsa kia tech bulletin info when i scheduled my appt and was told yes its covered. they called today and said no its not because its 10yrs from the date of purchase and i said no it says 10yrs from the date of service. this was just diagnosed in the last month after spending money replacing other things thinking that was the cause. i just want the replacement that kia said they would cover.

The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy the safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. There is an urgent safety recall (fire risk when parked). It is currently unsafe and unreliable to drive the car with this recall.
In touch with 2 local dealers, one so far does not have the replacement part to resolve the recall on the hydraulic electronic control unit, one has yet to call me back to schedule for service. I am experiencing a burning/melting smell through my vents when the vehicle is not in motion.

My complaint does not immediately involve an additional incident but rather I am concerned with the time it is taking to find a solution for the Recall Number 23V652000. It has been 5 months since the initial notification, and I have not heard of any solution to date. Apparently, KIA Motors is still in the process of developing a part to address the fire issue, but given the nature and inconvenience of the Recall, I am hoping the NHTSA has an update regarding this matter. While I have contacted my Congressional Representative, they in turn gave me your information, so I am following up with you. Sincerely, [XXX] Owner of 2013 KIA Optima09 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Manufacturer hasn't provided a remedy to recall notice issued in September 2023. For something that has a chance of catching on fire driving or Parked this should've been taken care of along time ago instead of risking peoples lives dragging this out.
I have filed a complaint already with 2 agencies and I am continually being transferred from one site to another ! My 2013 Kia Optima sunroof exploded as I was at a stop, about to turn into work. I experienced a pop and had glass falling on me within seconds. There were no recent rock experiences and the road was completely clear. After dealing with the initial clean up, I drove to an auto glass shop to have it professionally removed. The glass was bowed and left with a large hole, almost like it had just exploded due to pressure or a faulty piece. I almost always have my daughter with me and I’m SO grateful she was not in the vehicle. This could have resulted in injury or even a collision due to the terrifying nature of glass shattering above you. My insurance does not cover comp, however I do work for an insurance agent and he did view the damage. No claim can be filed as the repair and replacement for the damage has to come out of pocket.
In past year replace Shock Absorbers in the rear($498), Thermostate/gasket($454), and now need code P0464 Fuel leverl Sensor circuit replaced($750)
NO ACCIDENTS!!! To the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Subject: Concerns regarding Kia America's handling of vehicle recalls I am writing to express deep concerns regarding the service and responsiveness of Kia America, particularly in relation to several recalls on my vehicle. There are currently eight outstanding recalls on my vehicle. To address these issues, I brought my car to Kia Jim Ellis in Kennesaw, GA. Following the inspection, I was presented with an estimate of approximately $3,000 for engine repairs. Surprisingly, upon the car's return, I found it had less than a quart of oil. While the dealership did later acknowledge this oversight, such a lapse is deeply concerning. Additionally, the written report from the dealership noted that one of the required parts for the recall repair was missing and had been ordered. However, this was not verbally communicated to me, and the car was handed back as if all repairs had been completed without any cautionary note or indication of when the missing part would be installed. A particular recall that has caused me significant concern pertains to the engine. I've understood that the defect can lead to the engine locking up, which could pose a serious hazard on the roads. Despite expressing my apprehension, the service technician simply advised me to return the vehicle if any noticeable issues arise, including if the engine locks up. For clarity and emphasis on the importance of the recalls, I provided the technician with a detailed letter. Furthermore, I've encountered hurdles when attempting to communicate with Kia America's support at 800-333-4542. After documenting my concerns, a representative transferred my call to a supervisor for resolution. Regrettably, the supervisor expected me to reiterate the previously documented issues and disconnected the call when I referenced the ticket. Dear Kia, recalls have been created to avoid accidents
suddenly while driving, vehicle produced a hybrid system warning light to stop driving immediately and do not drive. Next warning said to check breaks. Following the warning I tried to park, the car then rolled backwards, while foot was on breaks. breaks did not work! I immediately put the car in park and turned the car off. Car was then towed to dealership. When vehicle arrived at dealership warning light was no longer displayed. Dealership flushed out Break fluid and replaced break fluid. Car was picked up and while driving home (luckily was exiting highway) while getting off the ramp warning light came on again, had to stop vehicle in middle of road and place car in park afraid there would be no breaks. I waited with my Hazzard lights on as cars passed. Once the road was clear, I proceeded to attempted to pull car closer to the side of road to get out of lane. As breaking to park vehicle on side edge of road, loud crunching noises were heard and had to place the car in park. Left vehicle running this time while having it towed back to the dealership instead of turning it off this way they could see the issue at hand. When tech witness the issue, I was told the car was unsafe and that it was the break module or also known as Hydraulic Electronic control Unit.. Furthermore I looked up information on this issue and my Make & Model and year of my vehicle is listed on Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-652, page 3. Also Report shows parts: Component Name 1 : HECU Component Description : Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit Component Part Number : 58920-***** and also part number 58910- Although my vehicle vin number does not currently show a recall for this part, report also states VIN numbers will be released to dealerships November 10th 2023 and to the vehicle owners November 14th 2023. Not sure that my vehicle will be included but this definitely is a safety issue. If this would have been on the highway it could have caused an accident. This is not safe for anyone.
I was turning into some parking spots so i could put my car in reverse and park closer to building i needed. I did not get a chance to putin reverse, the vehicle surged forward and was accelerating. My foot was not on the gas pedal. I was trying to brake. I turned steering wheel so I didn't hit brick building. I swiped the building and 2 vehiles on my right AND still did not stop right away. I kept on the brake and the plants, rocks, landscaping I think helped it to stop. I can get police report in few days.
