My engine failed on a busy road on my home after a long day of work. I was at a red light when my car failed and was terrified a car was going to hit me. I was the first car in line and had barely made it past the light. Thankfully, I was able to have my car pushed into a nearby lot by complete strangers. I had just gotten off of the freeway, I easily could have been killed or hurt. My car was towed to the dealership where I purchased it from where it was confirmed that my engine seized and I needed an engine replacement. My car started knocking the day before it failed (Friday, May 26, 2023). This is the only symptom my vehicle had. I took it to Kia the same day and they told me to return on Tuesday morning after the holiday weekend for a diagnosis. It failed Saturday afternoon (May 27, 2023). I have not had it inspected by KIA because they insist that they will not honor the lifetime warranty on my car because of a pre-requisite system update that was not completed. However, once again, the dealership I purchased it from has done a diagnosis and concluded that my engine seized due to faulty manufacturing. I am the second owner of the vehicle. The previous owner received both of the recall notifications in the mail regarding the system update that was required to be covered under the lifetime warranty. I knew nothing of it and Kia refuses to hold themselves liable for an engine that would have inevitably failed — and could’ve cost me my life.
I driving my vehicle is just started powering down and didn’t want to turn on again. We jumped started it thinking it was the battery but it checked out fine. The vehicle doesn’t want to start anymore and the mobile mechanic said the engine had ti be replaced since it was off the timing loop. No engine or vehicle lights were in and no prior issues were appearing.
When I drive at night the low beams are so dim I have to use high beams or fog lights to see.
The vehicle had electrical fire. While driving smoke and electric fire smell started to fill the cabin. Pull off the road and exited the vehicle. All vehicle caution indicators were lit up on the dashboard, engine, battery, temp, etc indicators. Shut off car called roadside assistance. Car smelled or charred electric components. Had it towed to the manufacturer dealership. Waiting on response from KIA to determine cause of electrical fire.
The engine in my 2015 Kia Optima Hybrid failed due to a known defect with the 2.4L engine used in Kia and Hyundai vehicles. The vehicle suddenly quit running and has been inoperable since. Prior to failure, the car had exhibited knocking noises and loss of power. This placed my safety at risk as the vehicle stalled unexpectedly and could have caused an accident if it occurred in traffic. The failure has been confirmed by an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the engine as needing complete replacement. Kia has refused to cover the repair, stating that the vehicle is past the extended warranty mileage, even though the issue is consistent with widely reported manufacturing defects on this engine family. The engine is still available for inspection, and there were no warning lights before the sudden failure. This problem has been widely reported by other Kia owners but my vehicle’s VIN is not included in the current recall campaign, leaving me with a non-functional vehicle despite the same defect.
The paint on my white 2015 kia optima is coming off and when my windshield was replaced more paint came off on the roof above the windshield.
White pearl color start pealing off, affected area is at the back of the roof above the back window.
Chunks of paint are coming off my car on the freeway. It was raining and a large section of paint flew off and onto the car that was driving behind me and stuck to their windshield. The occupant almost had a collision with another vehicle on the freeway. I was able to follow the car that got the paint stuck to their windshield and I did apologize and got their contact information to verify my incident.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the failure was related to an unknown recall not being performed. Additionally, the code PL1802 (Echo Logic Upgrade) was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Driving down a highway and my engine completely turned off. I was lucky enough to make it to the edge safely, but my car would not start. Had it towed to a Kia dealership where they told me since the reset never took place, they would not honor the recall. I’ve only had the car 3 months and was not alerted of any recalls at my last oil change.
We are a used vehicle dealer. We purchased this vehicle for resale from a new vehicle dealer, while transporting it back to our lot, the motor blew up. Kia is willing to fix it, but not while it is titled in our name. They will only repair if it is in a private individuals name. There is an issue with the vehicle and why will they only repair if it is titled to a private individual?
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no additional assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Low beam head lights visibility maybe reaches 3-4 feet infront of car at max. Have upgraded bulbs twice to higher lumens but still must run hibeams at night. I drive mountain passes daily and must use hi beams, not safe for oncoming traffic.
I heard a noise and pulled over to take a look at it and noticed fluid was leaking. Then the engine wouldn't start. I had the vehicle for about 2 weeks before this happened I had a mechanic diagnosis why it wouldn't start and he said he found a crack in the lower end of the engine crankshaft gridle and now yhw engine needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing an abnormal oil consumption. The contact stated that she had been adding engine oil to the vehicle every 400 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was informed that the vehicle had to experience catastrophic engine failure to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
My car started smoking while parked at work for no reason and I had to call the fire department. It stop smoking by the time the fire department came. I had it towed to the Dealer. My brakes are a mess but especially on a wet road you have to pump them to try to stop. I have taken it to the Dealer and of course they find nothing wrong. I told them to test drive it on a wet raining day and try to stop hard. Supposedly they could not but I have almost been it several accidents and had to run through a red light because I could not stop. So, I try to drive this car on a rainy day or drive slowly. This car has been trouble since I got it and the dealer will not listen.
Driving on highway at 65 mph and engine just died with no warning. Almost got hit trying to get off the expressway to the side of road. Had car towed home and checked engine. Engine is seized up completely.
I purchased a brand new Kia from an authorized Kia dealership. The vehicle in question is a 2015 Kia Optima, white pearl in color. Since its purchase, I have maintained this vehicle ensuring that it is serviced regularly at authorized Kia service centers and taking all necessary steps to protect its exterior. Despite these efforts, I have recently observed a drastic deterioration in the paint quality of my vehicle. Specifically, the paint on my Kia Optima has been peeling extensively in several areas, including the roof, hood, and trunk. This issue not only affects the vehicle's aesthetic appeal but also raises concerns about the potential for further deterioration and damage to the underlying metal, which could lead to rust and other long-term issues. I have conducted some research and discovered that paint peeling issues are not uncommon with vehicles of this model and color. It appears that this problem may be linked to a manufacturing defect, particularly with the application and adhesion of the paint. I believe this to be a defect that falls under Kia's responsibility, as the paint should reasonably be expected to last much longer under normal use and care conditions.
The paint on my pearl white 2015 Kia started chipping around windshield areas a few years ago. Front ,side and back. Now the whole trunk is coming off and an area around rear passenger side. It just keeps spreading and I am so embarrassed and frustrated. My car is in great condition. no dents , no accidents! I take good care of it and this is what it looks like? Not right and Kia needs to do something about it.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated and lost motive power; however, the vehicle remained running. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was then able to coast the vehicle off the road and the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was then advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Was driving down the interstate and engine cut off suddenly. Had to coast across several lane to pull over out of traffic. This was very dangerous. Had car towed home. Engine is locked up . Called Kia dealerships near me. Closest one is not accepting any engine replacement appointments at this time and don’t know when they can. Wouldn’t even give me a future appointment. Kia lawsuit website says my vin number is covered for engine replacement but I can’t get a dealer to even look at it.
Driving 2015 Kia Optima on expressway at night when car lost power and died. We almost got hit by cars and trucks trying to get over to side of road. Dash lights went crazy as did headlights and nothing worked. Had car towed to Kia dealership and they confirmed that engine locked up. Kia refused to cover because ksds updated (that we did not know about)was not done even though this engine is known to be manufactured faulty and are failing at astronomical rates. Kia knows they should be recalled. They refuse responsibility even after they settle lawsuit after lawsuit.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the contact stated he heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact observed white smoke coming from under the hood. The contact was able to pull over with the engine still running however, when he stopped and turned off the vehicle, he was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the oil and battery warning lights were illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 60 MPH. The vehicle began to shudder and failed to accelerate above 20 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated and flashing. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated upon starting and exiting the vehicle, he noticed that there was smoke coming out from underneath the hood. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact opened the hood and saw flames. The contact closed the hood and immediately went into his residence to grab fire extinguishers. Upon returning to the vehicle, the contact was unable to reopen the hood. The contact called the fire department, who extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. There was no injury sustained. There was no police report filed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle remained at the contact’s residence. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V331000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), which he related to the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My engine light all of a sudden just started blinking, engine started smoking, and making Very loud clanking noise.
Paint is peeling off my white 2015 KIA Optima on the passenger side, trunk and driver and passenger front pillars. The paint is peeling from underneath the paint at the base of the vehicle. This is obviously a paint defect and unacceptable. I was told by multiple auto paint body shops that "the paint did not fuse with the primer which is causing the paint to bubble and peel". Kia is telling consumers to put in a claim and send pictures, sales contracts and paint estimates etc. and then deny the claim. However, I know for a fact that they are picking and choosing which claims to take care of. My claim was denied but I refuse to accept this and asked for a Case manager to call me directly to discuss further. I am suppose to get a call back within a 5 to 7 days. Kia is a billion dollar business with millions of Kia vehicles sold and for them not to take responsibility for there manufacturing defect is very bad business and I expect more from them. I spent hard earned money for my car that looks horrible and I am embarrassed to drive in and drive my clients in. I am not happy at how Kia is handling this matter and consumers of Kia deserve better treatment.
Knock sensor replaced due to engine knocking did not fix the problem the cars engine does not work it julks and pulls really hard engine noise check engine flashing left me stalled on the main highway with my 2 children with no warning the car has engine oil to adequate levels maintenance was up to date
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, she observed a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, and then the vehicle stalled. On the third attempt, the vehicle restarted, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle was then towed it an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,674.
My paint is bubbling, chipping and is destroyed for no reason. I was my car by hand with a special car wash soap and dry it with a shammy. I took pictures and within 2 months of having my car sit the paint it boiling? I have seen claims ona facebook page this is happening to other Kia models. My friend just got his Prius painted due to the same issue *same color Pearl White~ !!!!
The engine lost power taking off crossing a major roadway, resulting in a stall, vehicle had to be restarted in a panic. The knocking and loss of power put me and my passenger in danger of a side impact from cross traffic. The issue was reproduced by a dealer upon further inspection. The vehicle will be inspected by a service department at certified dealership. No warnings lights or fault warnings appeared related to this issue.
I own a 2015 Kia Optima Turbo SX. every time I park my vehicle in an enclosed garage. and only when the engine is cold does it makes a grinning noise for about 12 seconds or less. once I turn the engine off and turn it back on the noise it stops. also, there is a mild fuel odor coming from the engine compartment every time the motor is turned off. your response will be much appreciated thank you. Sincerely. Carl M. Velasquez
Oil Changed 02/18/23, No leaks reported. Highway driving, now the vehicle is burning oil and has leaks, engine not running properly at highway speeds.
I noticed the car was stalling and then a engine knock, took it to the kia dealer they stated the engine needed to be replaced but kia was not going to cover it because I didnt do a recall?? I never recieved a recall and after researching this issue I saw thousand of articles about people having the same issue!!! also there was a class action suit against kia for this issue!!!
On 3/1/23 on my way home from my which the site was in Perth Amboy, NJ. At the North Somerset rest stop, just exited the I-76 westbound. I lost power around 65 mph. I didn't get any response from my brakes at first and nothing from my accelerator. Upon drifting and praying that I'd make it to the lot out of the main exiting lane. Upon pulling into a spot at the very farthest spot from the building, I noticed my check engine light is flashing. Press my brakes were working. Accelerator was hardly responding. I've worked on my car and my families cars, and cars most of my life. I had my code reader with me. Plugged it in and got the code that I've heard and read about. P1326 knock sensor. Knowing about this about Kia and Hyuandi, I knew my engine was dead. Thank God it didn't catch fire like some others have. I had it towed to Smail Kia in Greensburg, PA. That was the closest and NOT the dealer I bought it from. We bought it from Century 3 Kia West Mifflin, PA. After their promises that the engine would get replaced, lack of communication, many of my calls, voicemail, emails and showing up in person,(had to move 2 things that would've been in the way of the swapping of the engine) and a week later Kia denied my replacement due to "power adders". None of which I have, use or cause any issues. NO TESTING WAS DONE ON WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS POWER ADDERS. HOWEVER, ALL OF THE TESTS THAT SHOW THEIR FAULTY ENGINE COMPONENTS AS PERR THE FEDERAL LAWSUITS AND RECALLS.....ALL FAILED! I can't drive the car. It's dangerous for myself and any other motorist. Could explode, catch fire or completely fail on ANY highway/roadway. I need my car for my career and above all, my life sustaining health and medical appointments Now I'm left with no vehicle. I still owe around a year- year and a half. As well as car insurance. Now what? Kia needs to do the right thing here, for myself and anyon else suffering from this horrific life changing nightmare.
2015 KIA OPTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE SEIZED AFTER FOUR MONTHS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. AND THERE IS AN UNADDRESSED/OPEN RECALL THAT WAS NEVER REPAIRED.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.
Knocking noise coming from engine. Pulley is wobbly. Oil leak coming from timing cover. Knocking noise come from Connecting rod knocking. Engine will have to be replaced or rebuilt.
In early February, my Kia was broken into and attempted to be stolen. There has been a lot of word going around about how Kia’s are easy to steal. My car fell victim to the viral trend of Kia theft. The damage done to my car included a broken window and my whole steering column ripped apart. The anti-theft protection has now become a safety issue because of the lack of industry standards for theft protection. I am still unable to drive my car because of the part shortage. I have been unable to drive my car for months.
While driving down interstate highway 49/71, in the southbound lane of traffic, the engine failed. The vehicle began to shudder and shake and then stalled. There was barely enough time to pull off to the side of the road before it completely stalled. The dash did not display any warning symbols or anything to make me aware of any issue. There was a shuddering noise coming from under the hood that last about 45 seconds before the engine stalled. The vehicle has been taken to two mechanics and each one testified that the engine was blown and unworkable. A vehicle that is only eight years old should not have engine failure. Kia dealerships were notified only to state that there was no recall on this specific model and make it seem like engine failure is not relevant. The vehicle is just 50,000 miles out of warranty and still contains a lien. Engine failure such as this should be addressed please. Please note: No documents to upload - no repairs have been made and quotes for a new engine were all done verbally. Both mechanics stated that the engine cannot be re-built. They would have to replace the current engine with another, or new, Kia engine. The average cost for a new engine is around $4,200-$5,800.00.
lights in dashboard always on , something wrong with engine
my car paint is chipping in multiple places around my car. This could lead to rusting witch, can ultimately lead the body of the car to be easily damaged. it will cause a weakened body structure which can lead to so many damages in the future. I am mediately contacted Kia corporate as soon as the problem got worse, they refuse to pay for my whole car to be repainted. I have a pearl white Kia car, which is known to chip and bubble up. to fix my issues immediately, I went to get my car painted at an affordable place with my own money.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the engine turned over but then the engine seized. There was an abnormal knocking sound previously detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
On 1 30-30 2023 my vehicle spun a rod bearing no engine light came on no oil light alert. I have a lifetime warranty & I'm just learning of a recall NHTSA SAFETY ID# 21V331000, to which I did not receive any notifications or recall notices
Rear outer TAIL LAMP combination assemblies (NOT the inner lights on the trunk lid) have failed Virginia State SAFETY Inspection due to accumulation of moisture and standing water in BOTH left and right outer tail lamps, causing LEDs in the tail lamp assembly to burn out and not illuminate. There have already been multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) on the matter (i.e. KIA TSB PS364, KIA TSB BOD143, KIA TSB BOD172), and the cause outlined in these TSBs has been a DEFECT in design leading to a gap between the tail lamp housing gasket and the vehicle body allowing WATER INTRUSION. KIA has neglected to inspect, fix, or add additional gaskets per their instructions during eligible warranty periods, and extended warranties refuse to fix the issue as they classify it as water intrusion. This pins the financial burden to fix the safety issue on the customer/driver, as KIA dealers have quoted $1,232.46 for replacement of these tail lamps. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Components: Rear outer tail lamp combination assemblies (both left and right) (NOT the lamps on the trunk lid). Inspection availability: LIMITED due to significant time pressure and inconvenience (since the tail lamps have caused the vehicle to fail Virginia State Safety Inspection, the car needs to be fixed ASAP to resume commute to work, etc.) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Lower visibility for others, may result in incident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Confirmed by KIA dealer themselves. Also, multiple customer complaints on internet, as well as TSBs. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? KIA dealer did not inspect during warranty. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No and UNKNOWN.
Faulty engine causing vehicle to consume oil rapidly and causing burning smell, as of car may catch on fire. Vehicle has been taken to several different auto mechanics that all say engine should have been a part of the recall and lawsuit should be filed. When taken to Kia dealership they are aware of the problem but refuse to do anything unless the car is listed under the recall list. This has been an ongoing issue for over a year now and there have been several gallons of oil poured into the car now.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed the vehicle was smoking and on fire. The contact stated the vehicle was equipped with tinted windows, and when he opened the driver's front door, the contact noticed smoke and fire in the interior of the vehicle. The contact called the fire department. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The contact was treated for smoke inhalation. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact was informed by the dealer that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The contact stated that the dealer inspected the vehicle but did not provide the contact with a report. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a claim was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
While driving the vehicle on Tuesday 1/17/23 giving it gas, the engine stopped running. I was going about 45 mph when the engine stopped, multiple lights on the dash turned on including the engine light, oil light, and battery light. I had to coast the car to the side of a 3 lane road. I turned off the car, waited a few moments and tried to turn the car on. The lights went on but the engine did not start. I had the car towed to an auto shop who then advised I should have it taken to a Kia dealer as there is a recall on the vehicle. The dealer has had the car for a week and has only said that the engine is seized and that they can not provide more information without me paying to have the engine taken apart.
1.Since 1/17/23 I've had 5 occurrences of the car yanking me to the left as I am turning right. The steering wheel gets stiffed, the dashboard lights come one, car slows down and I have to park the car and turn it off and back on. When I turn it back on, no dashboard lights are on and the everything is back to normal as if nothing ever happened. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership 3 times for a diagnostics and nothing comes up. The vehicles computer is not even tracing the times the dashboard lights have turned on as it shows zero history and that is not the case. I have taken pictures and video of the dashboard lights and have showed the guys at the dealership but since there's no record on the dashboard computer/history, they're not able to determine the problem. 2.My safety has been put at risk as I can get involved in a car accident and involve others safety at risk as well. The vehicle doesn't give any prior signs when it's going to act up when turning to the right, therefore it can happen at any given time. The first time I was leaving a parking lot and it happened on the freeway feeder. I towed my vehicle to the dealership the first time as I was in fear of driving it only to be told they can't find the issue. 3.The dealership has ran 3 different diagnostics on 3 different occasions and nothing comes up. It is still unresolved. 4. Kia service department has inspected in on 3 different occasions since the first incident. 5. No warning lamps or warnings of any sort before the first incident.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. After stopping at a red light, the engine suddenly failed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 88,000.
